Journal Entry: 10/08/2024
Early Morning Call-Out & Search and Rescue: The day started at 4 a.m. with an abrupt wake-up call for my Search and Rescue volunteer role. I had completely forgotten I was on call, so I jumped out of bed, threw on some clothes, and rushed out the door, adrenaline already kicking in. As I drove, I kept telling myself, “You’ve got this, Kyrie. Just push through.” The drive was mostly a blur of me mentally preparing for what was ahead.
When I arrived at the scene, it was still dark. I pulled up to the staging area, popped open the trunk, and began suiting up: hiking boots, tactical pants, jacket, and my EMT primary bag slung over my shoulder. The team was a mix of Search and Rescue volunteers, Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies, and a K9 unit. We huddled up for a briefing on the missing person we were looking for—a hiker who hadn’t been heard from in over 24 hours. The K9 started sniffing around the victim's car to pick up the scent, and I gave myself another pep talk, smacking my hands together, whispering, “You’ve got this, Kyrie.”
I partnered up with Kimberly, another EMT on our team, who also works full-time as an Emergency Room Technician. It always amazes me how she manages to find the energy to do these Search and Rescue missions after tough shifts at the ER. As we hiked, we caught up on life—talking about how exhausting work can be and how crazy it is to juggle it all. The hike was challenging, about 10 miles in total with steep terrain. But we pushed through, staying focused on the task.
After a couple of hours of hiking, we located the missing hiker, who was alive but in rough shape—dehydrated and a bit disoriented. Kimberly and I immediately went into EMT mode, checking vitals, administering fluids, and stabilizing the person as best we could. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Emergency Services Detail arrived not long after and took over the extraction, hoisting the hiker out and transporting them to the nearest trauma center. Hiking back down was easier with the help of gravity, but I was still drained. I got home around 6:30 a.m., squeezed in a quick one-hour nap, and then dragged myself out of bed again by 7:30 a.m.
Heading to the Office & Noticing the Homeless Cleanup: I left the house a little after 7 a.m., managing to avoid the usual LA traffic on my way to the office. As I approached Downtown LA, I noticed a massive homeless encampment cleanup happening near Skid Row. There were sanitation workers and city officials everywhere, sweeping the streets, taking down tents, and removing debris. It was hard to watch—thinking about how those people would have to find a new place to stay. I gave my team a heads-up about it, in case it affected any of our cases.
8 a.m. Teamlet 1 Meeting: I got to the office just in time for the 8 a.m. Teamlet 1 meeting. It turned out to be a mess. The DMH folks dominated the conversation, presenting their cases while DHS’s input was largely ignored. Christina, one of our RNs, had a lot to say, but it felt like no one was listening to her. It was frustrating to see, and I could feel my own irritation rising. A part of me wanted to speak up, but then I thought, What’s the point? I’m leaving soon anyway. It was one of those moments where you feel disheartened, knowing things won’t change.
Training the CHWs & Seeing Nessa: After the meeting, I texted Nessa, sending her a photo of the 1-year anniversary gift the agency gave me. She replied with, “Girl… that’s stupid,” and I couldn’t help but laugh because I could imagine her saying it in person. At 9:30 a.m., I led the training for the Community Health Workers (CHWs). It lasted until around 11 a.m., and while the CHWs asked good questions, I had to be patient with them. They struggled a bit with using the software for ECM referrals since many of them weren’t very tech-savvy. I walked them through each step, correcting mistakes as we went along.
During a break, I spotted a familiar blonde bun walking past and realized it was Nessa. I said a quick hi since she was on a call, and then I headed back to continue observing the CHWs to ensure they were doing everything correctly. It felt good to be teaching again, but the morning was draining.
Talking with Kaci & Leaving Early: After the training session, I went back to my cubicle to take a breather, only for Kaci, one of the RNs, to stop by. She started talking about her day, but my mind kept drifting, and I found myself zoning out. I tried to nod and smile like I was paying attention, and when she asked about my day, I told her about the early morning call-out for Search and Rescue. I think she understood that I was exhausted because she didn’t press for more details.
I ended up leaving the office around noon, figuring I’d get home before the afternoon traffic rush. It’s always a gamble with LA traffic, but this time I got lucky.
Emotional Breakdown & Conversation with Nessa: When I got home, I joked around with my little brother, trying to keep up the facade that everything was fine. But as soon as I walked into the living room, the weight of the day hit me hard. I broke down, sobbing uncontrollably. It was like all the emotions I’d been holding back came flooding out. I felt overwhelmed, lonely, and exhausted.
I texted Nessa, asking for advice on how to cope. She suggested opening up to someone about my problems and seeking help, but I told her I wasn’t ready to let my siblings see me this vulnerable. I didn’t want them to worry. Nessa understood and shared some of her own struggles with me, which helped a little. I changed the subject to lighten the mood and cracked a few jokes to make her laugh. I think it worked because she seemed more relaxed afterward.
PC 832 Preparation, Dating Apps & Loneliness: I’m planning to get my medical clearance for PC 832 tomorrow. I emailed Golden West College to check if there’s anything else I need to prepare for. In a moment of loneliness, I installed some dating apps. I’ve been feeling left out seeing my coworkers enjoying their lives, while I’m stuck in this place after losing Jodie to suicide. It’s been a struggle to find motivation for anything, but I figured I’d give it a shot. I’m also thinking about going back to the gym, especially with the police academy coming up.
Zach Bryan’s Music & Training Gear: Lately, I’ve been listening to Zach Bryan’s Lucky Enough poem and Tourniquet on repeat. The lyrics resonate with me on a deep level, matching the sadness and hope I feel. I also bought some cuffs in preparation for the training, which felt like a small step toward getting ready for the academy.
Today was tough, but I made it through. I can only hope tomorrow is a little easier.

3 Signs of a Faulty or Damaged Steering Angle Sensor
Tumblr media
Innovation supports advancement, remarkably in the car business. Before, a driver needed to depend on ability and a little karma to manage the vehicle subsequent to being compelled to embrace a forceful move to keep away from a crash.
Lately, automakers have worked with auto wellbeing specialists like SEMA and SFI to foster more grounded soundness control frameworks that assist drivers with keeping up with vehicle control during sly moves. One of the most pervasive sorts of units highlighted in the present vehicles is the directing point sensor.
In the event that the foothold control light on your dashboard has enlightened, make a meeting with a car service near me carport to permit an expert grease monkey to analyze and fix the issue. A faulty guiding point sensor is demonstrated by the Traction Control Light turning on, the directing wheel feeling free, and the vehicle answering contrastingly after a front-end arrangement. The electronic dependability program's guiding point sensor is one of its parts (ESP). AdvanceTrac w/Roll Stability Control (RSC), Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC), and Vehicle Stability Control are a portion of the famous names for this cutting-edge security innovation (VSC). In spite of the distinctions in phrasing, the fundamental capability of the framework and the different parts that make it up are almost indistinguishable.
One of the checking gadgets at the front suspension or inside the guiding segment is the directing point sensor. This gadget was already simple; detecting the voltage changes brought about by the guiding haggle that data to the vehicle's ECU. Directing point sensors are presently computerized and comprise of a LED light those actions the guiding information point.
This is a part that is totally solid the existence of the vehicle. The directing point sensor, similar to some other sensor, can break down or completely fizzle inferable from different causes past the control of most vehicle proprietors. It will show a couple of normal advance notice signs or side effects on the off chance that it breaks or begins to gradually fall flat.
A broken, faulty, or failed steering angle sensor might cause the following symptoms:
1.     Traction Control Light Illuminates - A mistake code is set off and kept inside the vehicle's ECM much of the time when a shortcoming with the electronic strength program emerges. The Traction Control Light on the dashboard or instrument control board will likewise enlighten because of this activity. This marker doesn't enlighten while foothold control is empowered, as it is generally a default setting that should be turned off physically by the driver. While the directing wheel point sensor comes up short, a breakdown marker shows up in the instrument bunch, cautioning the driver that the electronic steadiness framework is debilitated and must be overhauled. Most home-grown and global vehicles will have this cautioning light, which is the Traction Control Light. When the Traction Control Light enlightens when the framework is functional, you ought to call a nearby confirmed repairman to have the OBD-II mistake codes downloaded and lay out the thing issue is influencing your vehicle's drivability and security. To stay away from a MOT test disappointment, check MOT expiry date and have a malfunctioning steering angle sensor replaced.
2.     Loose Steering Wheel That Has 'play' - Because the guiding point sensor is intended to screen the developments and info given by the directing wheel, it can at times send deluding data to the ECM, bringing about a possibly risky circumstance. The data read and shipped off the vehicle's ready PC is mistaken when the sensor is breaking down, skewed, or harmed. Subsequently, the ESP might offer controlling criticism or adjustments at an untimely time. Check MOT history to lie out in the event that the foothold control light being enlightened in the past was a justification behind a MOT test disappointment and assuming this issue was connected to the guiding point sensor. Most of the time, this causes a "free" directing wheel state, in which how much controlling information you offer isn't responded by the vehicle's activity. Contact a repairman on the off chance that you find the controlling wheel is free or not answering as it ought to. They will assess the ESP framework and take care of the issue at the earliest opportunity.
3.     After a front-end change, the vehicle drives in an unexpected way - Today's controlling point sensors are coupled to many spots all through the guiding framework. Since a front-end arrangement adjusts the front wheels to the controlling wheel, it can cause issues with the guiding point sensor. Numerous support shops make the slip-up of neglecting to reset or realign the directing point sensor after they've done their administration. This can result in the previously mentioned side effects, for example, the Traction Control Light, Check Engine Light, or a decrease in vehicle drivability. Have any enlightened advance notice dashboard lights checked by your neighbourhood grease monkey prior to booking a MOT testing service as this will result in a MOT failure.

Photoshoot of the Week: December 30th 2019 - January 5th 2020 - Suzuki GSX-R750 & Miray
Tumblr media
Can you believe we are in a new decade? I couldn’t have imagined the year 2020 when I was a young boy. Do you remember all the movies that took place in the future and how futuristic 2020 was depicted? What about the flying cars and interstellar travels on exotic planets? We haven't gone near it so far: in a few days I'll have to take my motorbike to the repair shop, again! Anyway I don't mind at all: I believe that each and every day should be our main focus. When we do things from a place of feeling the way we want to feel, it all flows together with so much more ease. For me, my #1 goal this year was to continue the practice of strengthening my inner world – to feel joy and gratitude daily. To fully and completely feel it so deeply that happiness just oozed out of me in my relationships, in my work and in my blog, especially in these weekly posts for all of you. I’ve been working on my 2020 goals and I’m going to continue with last years intentions, which is adding goodness into my life, not setting resolutions on things I think I need to give up. But, as I decided a long time ago, there is always time for ridin' my motorbike, whether in my neighborhood or around the whole world, and that's what makes my life interesting, thus, worth living. I'm not personally interested in flying ships yet, and like the King sang I feel that 'there's so much world to see'. I think that many of you totally agree with me on this, and surely Turkish-German bikergirl and misterious socialite Miray endorses those words: you know, she never shows her face on Instagram but I bet there's a big fat shining smile ridin' around her Suzuki GSX-R750 behind that black HJC helmet! Why don't you show it to us? That smile will make all of us just walk on the moon! *** More than thirty years ago Suzuki GSX-R750's introduction revolutionized the sportbikes segment. Ever since then, the GSX-R750 has remained true to its original concept and championship-winning heritage. On the road or on the track, the GSX-R750 delivers a breathtaking combination of outstanding engine performance, crisp handling, compact size, and light weight. Its secret is an unequaled pairing of 750cc performance with the lightweight, compact chassis of a 600cc Supersport, complemented by technologically advanced suspension front and rear. The GSX-R750’s look was born and raised on the racetrack, and for its whole lifetime that styling has two new, dual-color paint schemes. Riders can choose the Glass Sparkle Black/Pearl Glacier White scheme that includes red bodywork graphics and striping on the black cast aluminum wheels. Also available is a scheme that blends a shiny and flat finish via Metallic Matter Black/Glass Sparkle Black bodywork that also includes red graphics and accents on black wheels. The GSX-R750’s fuel injected, 750cc, four-cylinder engine powers a balanced sportbike experience. This engine pulls strong off the bottom like a larger-displacement powerplant while it builds revs like a smaller mill – it’s the best of both worlds. The Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (S-DMS) lets the rider adjust the engine’s power delivery to suit the riding conditions. The twin-spar aluminum frame effectively connects the steering head with the swingarm pivot portion of the chassis in a way that balances light weight and strength. The engine is suspended below the frame to keep mass low and the wheelbase short to promote nimble handling. Compact 750cc, four-cylinder engine with a race-proven over-square bore/stroke ratio managed to produce a remarkably strong high rpm power delivery. The energy-efficient engine employs forged pistons, shot-peened connecting rods, chrome-nitride-coated upper compression and oil control rings, and pentagonal ventilation holes to reduce frictional and mechanical losses. Lightweight titanium alloy valves are controlled by single-coil valve springs to reduce valve-train mass, reducing mechanical losses at high rpm. Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve (SDTV) fuel injection uses eight fine-spray eight-hole injectors for improved fuel atomization, which contributes to more complete combustion. An Engine Control Module (ECM) provides state-of-the-art engine management and has enhanced settings to suit the intake and exhaust systems, resulting in better fuel economy and linear throttle response. Advanced, MotoGP-developed transistorized ignition control programming helps maintain more precise spark timing across the range of engine speed and temperature. Four-into-one stainless steel exhaust system with a titanium muffler is fitted with a Suzuki Exhaust Tuning (SET) valve that maximizes torque and improves throttle response, especially in the low- to mid-rpm range. Lightweight and compact twin-spar aluminum alloy frame is constructed of five cast sections to produce a balance of light weight and strength. The frame is mated with a cast aluminum swingarm and multi-piece rear sub-frame that’s ready for racetrack use. Race-developed, lightweight Showa Big Piston front Fork (BPF) delivers superb feedback and consistent performance. Single Showa rear shock features externally adjustable rebound and compression damping, along with adjustable ride height. Electronically controlled steering damper provides lighter steering at slower speeds and more damping force at racetrack and highway speeds. Front brakes with fully floating 310mm discs are grasped by radial-mount, four-piston Brembo Monobloc calipers. Three-spoke cast aluminum alloy wheels are shod with lightweight, high-grip front and rear tires for sharp handling. Three-way adjustable foot pegs, adjustable shift lever, and short fuel tank help compose a comfortable riding position that permits the rider movement required for performance riding. Compact, lightweight instrument cluster with a built-in lap timer/stopwatch and programmable engine rpm indicators to alert the rider to certain shift points. The GSX-R750 survived in several incarnations from its launch in 1985 all the way to 2016 before it was finally dropped from the Suzuki range. During its lifetime, the GSX-R750 had to see off competition from impressive rivals such as the Yamaha FZ750 and YZF-R7, Kawasaki ZXR750 and ZX-7R, the Ducati 749 and then a new generation of larger-capacity superbikes such as the FireBlade and Yamaha R1. The GSX-R was much lighter (thanks to its aluminium beam frame, a first for a mass-produced bike) than the FZ750 and its better looks and more futuristic design gave it the edge in the battle of the showrooms. The battle for middleweight supremacy waged on into the 90s and it took a serious overhaul for the Suzuki to respond to the Kawasaki ZXR750 and later ZX-7R models, but the GSX-R kept moving with the times and remains a brilliant choice of machine whether you’re a trackday addict or a road rider. #bikergirl #fastbikes #RidinGirlsBlog #racing #suzukigsxr750 #gsxr750 #gsxr #gixxerkidz #Suzuki #gsxr1000 #hjchelmets #biker #bikelife #bikersofinstagram #bikerfamily #bikergirl #motorrad #girlsonbikes #HJC #sportbike #sexybiker #Suzuki #GSX #gsxR #motard #moto #suzukigirl #bikerchick #bikerlady #motorbike #speed #roadracing #ridingsexy #girlswhoride #riderich #girlsonbikes #gsxr #suzukigsxr #motogp #moto #helmetporn

Grateful Dead Monthly: Oxford Plains Speedway – Oxford, ME 7/2-3/88
Tumblr media
On Saturday and Sunday, July 2 and 3, 1988, the Grateful Dead played two shows at the Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine.
Tumblr media
Oxford Plains opened in 1950 as a half-mile track, but was later shortened to three-eighths. According to the Wiki, it’s the largest sports venue in Maine, seating 14,000. The Speedway has hosted events in the NASCAR Busch Series (sort of the minor league for stock cars), but back in the late ’60s, it hosted three NASCAR Cup Series races – two won by Bobby Allison and one won by Richard “The King” Petty.
Tumblr media
Yes. That’s Richard Petty in his trademark powder-blue #43 Plymouth. If you had 1960s motorsports figures on your GDM bingo card, right on!
In June of 1988, the Monsters of Rock tour with Van Hagar, die Schorps, Dokken, Metallica, and Kingdom Come stopped in Oxford.
Tumblr media
And if you had Van Hagar and/or Dokken on the bingo card, sweet!
The following month, so did the Good Ol’ Grateful Dead for two nights. Our very own GD Editor (and Lester Bangs wannabe) ECM attended. Here’s his extended and incredibly awesome personal reflection.
Tumblr media
Thirty-three years ago Deadheads flocked to Oxford, Maine for two days of peace, love and music. The weather was great, the scene was chill and the Grateful Dead played dream set-lists for what would be their last shows in Maine and yours truly was fortunate enough to have been there. It was one of the very best experiences I ever had seeing the Dead and I often wish I could relive it again. So, gather ‘round the campfire and let’s get started, shall we?
PROLOGUE: Summer’s here and the time is right
I had just graduated from college in June 1988 and after treating myself to a 2-week backpacking trip to Europe I dutifully hopped on tour with the Grateful Dead, because like… isn’t that a rite of passage? The mail order Gods were very kind to me which was no small miracle when you consider the huge influx of new fans on the scene in the wake of Touch-mania due to the commercial success of In the Dark. Another factor that contributed to making tickets tough to score was the fact that the band opted mostly for small, outdoor sheds for this tour instead of the ginormous stadiums they had played the previous two summers. I scored tickets for Pittsburgh (6/26), SPAC (6/28, my 22nd birthday) and both nights of Oxford Plains (7/2-3). The latter was a venue the band had never played and it also happened to be the tour closer which raised the stakes even higher. In addition, there was a rumor that the band might add a “surprise” extra show on July Fourth (alas, that never happened). And, of course let’s not forget about the band’s storied history of playing legendary shows in Maine such as 9/6/80 (Lewiston) and 10/12/84 (Augusta). Needless to say, the Oxford shows were highly anticipated by everybody.
Prior to Oxford, I attended Pittsburgh and SPAC with my brother Dan and a bunch of friends. I could write a separate essay on those incredibly fun adventures alone but I will save that for another day. I attended Oxford with my childhood friend, Brad, whose family had a house in Whitefield, New Hampshire which is a tiny, rural New England town near the White Mountains.  We used that as home base to travel back and forth to the shows which is only about an hour and a half drive. The plan was to stay for the July Fourth holiday after the shows and then return home to New York.
Tumblr media
BACKGROUND: Jumping queues and makin’ haste, just ain’t my cup of meat
Before I review the shows, I must first describe the scene/vibe since it was such a big part of the overall experience.  Like most of the surrounding area, Oxford is a small, rural, New England town with a population of about only 4,000 people. It is quiet, serene and wooded. Within that setting is an unexpected attraction – the Oxford Plains Speedway, a car racing track that was established in 1950 and seats 14,000 people. In 1988, the Speedway decided to dabble in rock concerts – something the tiny town was ill-prepared for. Here are just a few obstacles that quickly come to mind:  A single, one-lane road was the only access to the Speedway, very few local hotels and a police force of one(!)
On June 25, 1988, Oxford hosted the Monsters of Rock Festival featuring Van Halen, Scorpions, Dokken, Metallica and Kingdom Come. A torrential downpour combined with rowdy fans left the site trashed.
Now, before we get all judgy about metal-heads, let’s acknowledge that the Grateful Dead scene was not without its own problems. As I mentioned, the commercial success of the album, In The Dark, resulted in an incredible influx of newbies known as “Touch-Heads.” The show at SPAC on June 28th was a disaster as ticketless fans crashed the gates and rushed the ramps that led inside the pavilion. As a result, there were scuffles with security and lots of arrests. It turned out to be the last straw and consequently, the Dead never played SPAC again.
The town of Oxford had good reason to be concerned about the Grateful Dead concerts that lay ahead just one week after the Monsters debacle and the news about the Dead show at SPAC just a few days prior. Fortunately, the band and its fans sent around a plea to leave nothing but footprints. The 90,000+fans that descended upon the tiny town of Oxford not only gladly complied with that request but harmoniously co-existed with the residents. Maine papers reported that it was a most enjoyable weekend for all people especially the towns people.
Tumblr media
THE SCENE: Strangers Stopping Strangers
Grateful Dead archivist, David Lemieux, had this to say about Oxford:
“It seemed a little out of the way, which is why it was a good place to end the tour. It was a nice mellow place. I was bummed that they never played there again because everybody I knew who went to the Oxford show, to this day, will say it was one of the most fun Dead shows they ever saw. They were great shows musically, but they were just fun…It was extremely easy-going. It was a West Coast vibe on the East Coast. I heard from so many people who said it felt like an Oregon Dead show. That’s the highest compliment for a concert on the East coast.”
David Lemieux thought so highly of the Oxford shows that he included July 3, 1988 as the show to represent the year of 1988 for 30 Trips Around the Sun, the special 50th anniversary box-set that featured one complete show for each of the thirty years the band performed. Note that the box-set also includes a second Maine concert – the Augusta Civic Center show on October 12, 1984. Supposedly, the Lewiston show on September 6, 1980 would have also been included if a better audio source existed.
My friend, Brad and I arrived in the town of Oxford in the early afternoon on July 2nd. Getting there was slow. There was a lot of traffic congestion because of the one-lane road leading to the Speedway. Many people abandoned their cars and opted to walk. Enterprising locals let Deadheads camp and park on their lawn for a small fee.  As our car inched along we were able to check out the scene. And what a scene it was! The town of Oxford had been transformed into a little Dead village. The vibe was incredible – perhaps resembling a latter day Veneta or Woodstock.  Deadheads were grooving everywhere — swimming in streams, hanging out in fields, playing hacky sack, tossing Frisbees, hiking along the local route through the small town. Everybody was friendly, smiling and having fun together. Strangers stopping strangers just to shake their hand…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The parking lot itself was nothing more than a giant, dusty, plowed dirt field but the scene was outrageously good. The weather was perfect and the Speedway parking lot circus was in full swing – thousands of happy people, tents, cars, hissing nitrous, tie-dyed flags, loose dogs running around, fireworks going off, Hibachis, ice chests and goo-ball hawkers everywhere.
The “Shakedown Street” was enormous – two huge avenues of merchandisers selling everything legal and illegal from bagels to ‘shrooms. Everything was “kind.” Kind beer for $1, kind water for $1, kind cigarettes and kind bud… Kind, kind, kind.
Tumblr media
Cops ignored just about everything. To be fair, they were greatly outnumbered. Supposedly, the town’s sole police officer was aided by about 30 officers from the Maine State Police and neighboring communities, but the sheer number of people was overwhelming.
Fortunately, the Dead had the foresight to set up a field office out in the parking lots. People from the Grateful Dead office were out in the trenches all weekend long handing out garbage bags, keeping their pulse on the rhythm of what was going on and even scolding destructive trouble makers when necessary. This turned out to be crucial in keeping things peaceful, clean and safe for everybody.
Tumblr media
SATURDAY JULY 2: Life may be sweeter for this, I don’t know
Tumblr media
The scene inside was mellow – a giant field surrounded by a racetrack and bleachers. Delay PA towers placed behind the soundboard made hanging out in the back of the field pleasant – you could dance or lie down on a blanket and hear the concert perfectly. In fact, a lot of tapers set their rigs up directly behind these towers and were able to get very good audience recordings of these concerts.
Tumblr media
We went into the show early so that we could see the opening act – Little Feat. They had recently reformed after being inactive due to the death of Lowell George in 1979. Now in 1988, they were opening for the Dead to support the release of their new album, Let it Roll. It was exciting to see them rekindle their magic for fans both old and new. Some clever vendors sold bumper stickers on the lot that said “DEAD FEAT.” The band was in fine form and they turned in a really strong set consisting of everything you would want to hear from their live album, “Waiting for Columbus” mixed in with songs from the new album.
After Little Feat finished their set, Brad and I decided to upgrade our spot. Unfortunately, between the sea of people and the big open space, we got separated. I knew that finding him would be almost impossible and I wanted to get some good real estate for the show so I decided to make my way up towards the front. It was still early and there was plenty of space. I eventually settled in front the soundboard where I knew the sound would be perfect. I mingled with some friendly Heads while we waited for the band to take the stage. They were a bit older than me and took me in when they heard that I got separated.
Tumblr media
At one point, we noticed a hippie girl in a long flowing dress gracefully floating through the crowd. She was wide-eyed, smiling and clutching a single red rose. She eventually made her way over to our area. She stopped and stood directly in front of me, staring and smiling. She was in a state of euphoria, radiating beauty and kindness but not saying a word. I stood there paralyzed with awkwardness not knowing what to do except smile back. Ever so gracefully, she held the rose out for me to smell, which I did, and then she was off. It was a beautiful moment that encapsulated the entire weekend at Oxford.
Tumblr media
It was still daylight when the band took the stage for the first set. Since I was up so close I could see how relaxed they looked. The beautiful scenery was clearly agreeing with them. I remembered what Phil said at the beginning of the Veneta show – “This is really where we get off the best.” I hoped and prayed that this was one of those times.
Tumblr media
The band surprised us by opening with “Iko” which juxtaposed the mellow vibe we were feeling with a celebratory one. I looked around and watched people laughing, dancing, and hugging. This was not a typical high-energy East Cost rocking version. Rather, this was band easing into the first set in the late afternoon on a summer day in Maine with a “feel-good” purpose.
The band continued that easy-going vibe into the next song – Jack Straw. It started out almost too mellow. However, by the second jam we have lift-off as Phil carpet bombs  the Speedway, taking no prisoners.
Next up is a copacetic West L.A. with a slinky groove that acknowledges the “Speedway.”
While the band is tuning for “Memphis Blues,” the audience starts a “Let Phil Sing” chant. This was the norm at most shows following the “Box of Rain” bust out in Hampton in 1986. However, what wasn’t normal was for Phil, who is notoriously reserved on stage (at least in the latter years), to respond to those requests as he did on this occasion.  Cleary in good spirits, Phil has some fun with the audience:
Phil: “Don’t you think the guys in the band are going to get jealous if you yell for me all the time? I want you guys to yell for Mickey, Bill, Jerry and Brent, alright> Next time you see somebody yell ‘We want Phil’ you yell ‘We want Brent’ or ‘We want Mickey’ alright? Thank you.”
That brings Jerry and Bob to the microphone, who add that we should extend our requests to the crew – “We want STEVE! We want KIDD!” – and even to volunteers from the audience(!) This naturally draws lots of laughter and applause. Everybody was having a good time.
With that that band tears through one of the best renditions of “Memphis Blues.” Bobby’s Pepto-pink Strat lit up the Maine sky. Once again, the crowd begins to chant Phil’s name.
Bobby: “Phil can’t hear you. He’s been stone deaf for eight or ten years now. If you hold still he can read your lips. Brent can’t hear you ‘cause he’s run for it.”
Jerry: “Don’t listen to Weir. He’s been crazy for years.”
Tumblr media
“Row Jimmy” is superlative. Although it was played at SPAC just three nights earlier, who could complain when such a great song is repeated? Jerry’s notes blissfully echoing into the cosmos. The audience gently swaying to and fro…not too fast and not too slow…it’s the common way to go. Weir uses his guitar to do his paddling shtick during one of the choruses. Classic Bobby.
The band closes the first set with three of the new songs that were introduced earlier in the tour – “Blow Away”, “Victim of the Crime” and “Foolish Heart.” All were well received. Everyone listening intently.
The setlist for the second set is of what dreams are made. Although nothing the band played could be considered a “best of” performance, everybody who attended would agree that this was a delightful set of nighttime, outdoor music.
The sun begins to set behind the band as they gently ease into the opening notes of “Crazy Fingers” creating a breathtaking visual and aural landscape. “Life may be sweeter for this, I don’t know…” The outro jam was everything you could want in “Crazy Fingers” starting with Phil’s lead lines on the high neck of his bass as Jerry picks away in the background. The instrumental journey builds to the next level as Jerry takes over with a delicate lead that flows into the Middle-Eastern flavored jam.
Tumblr media
The “Playin’ > Uncle John’s > Terrapin” sequence that follows is divine. Bobby delivers the verses in Playin’ with oodles of confidence and then the band drops into a luscious spacey jam led by Phil’s bouncy bass lines. This drifts into an anthem-like version of “Uncle John’s Band.” Garcia’s mid-song solo is pure bliss. Smiles abound everywhere. The song oozes with kindness and joy and melts into “Terrapin” – Counting stars by candlelight…and eventually we come to the Drums/Space segment of the show.
Supposedly, all the fans that had travelled without tickets were “miracled” when the doors opened as the band went into “Drums.”
Post-Space, the band finishes in fine form with short, but solid versions of “The Wheel  > Gimme Some Lovin’ > Watchtower.” The audience cheered when the band sang, “so glad you made it” since Oxford was not easy to get to.
Then, we get the Holy Grail – Morning Dew. Jerry goes deep with his vocals – especially the final Anywaaaay…Phil and Jerry trading melodic licks in the quiet part…the song building momentum… and then the kind of triumphant, powerful  ending  that makes your hair stand on end….Magical, Electric, Spiritual.
Instead of ending the show, we are treated to a rocking “Sugar Mags’ as a bonus show closer. Rock Star Bobby strutting around the stage with his long, shaggy hair and getting the crowd all fired up. The “Quinn the Eskimo” encore is basically an audience sing-a-long that leaves a big smile on everybody’s face.
There is a video of Set 2 on YouTube if you are interested.
The post-show parking lot scene picked up where it left off. Fireworks and bonfires burned, lost dogs wandered everywhere, people were passed out in the dirt and thanks to the Dead’s crew, a slew of Deadheads scurried around with garbage bags trying to clean up.

SUNDAY JULY 3: All I know she sang a little while and then flew off
Tumblr media
On Day #2 the band turned in two sets of music that were inspired and full of energy but the game ball rightfully goes to Brent Mydland for his outstanding performance. Over the two days at Oxford, he played some of his best songs and was a very conspicuous presence in the 2nd set on this evening.
The band comes out raging with “Hell in a Bucket” complete with the same motorcycle effects that were used on the album, In the Dark.  Bobby thoroughly enjoys this ride and gets off on Healy’s vocal effects. “Sugaree” is competently performed. Brent lights up “Walking Blues” with a fierce B-3 organ solo.
Bobby then steps to the microphone and continues the joke from the day before by saying: “There’s a guy down there saying let Mickey sing. Now he’s obviously never heard that. You can have it if you want it.”
Garcia delivers the first real highlight of the day – a funky and twangy “Jed” which benefits greatly from Brent’s bouncy keyboard work. Garcia growls some of the lyrics.
Queen Jane fills the “Dylan slot” nicely and features heavenly solos by Jerry and Brent.
The set-closing “Bird Song” at sunset is easily the highlight of the show, and perhaps of the entire weekend.  This one gets jazzy and goes way out there into a scary meltdown before building to a huge peak. An added bonus to those who were in attendance was the ultra-light plane that appeared during the jam and circled around overheard. The audience cheered in delight and started pointing up to the sky. The band looked confused as they noticed the audience’s attention being diverted from the stage to the sky. Alas, the distraction probably killed the jam. However, the pilot took a perfectly timed graceful swoop over the stage as Jerry sang the last verse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like most people, I was expecting one more song since “Bird Song” rarely was a set closer (at least in 1988), but I’m guessing that the distraction of the plane combined with the potential danger it presented caused the band to err on the side of safety and prematurely end the set after just 6 songs. However, they would make up for that in the second set by playing 6 songs before “Drums ,” which was also pretty unusual. Another unusual aspect of that set was the absence of a Garcia ballad but I am jumping ahead of myself.
In between sets, there was an epic drum circle at the back of the Speedway. Also during the set break Brad and I ran into an old friend from high school, Kevin, who we hadn’t seen in years and we wound up hanging out together for the rest of the evening which was a lot of fun.
As the band took the stage, the audience started a Help/Slip/Frank chant (not played since 9/12/85) but….paradise had to wait until the fall ‘89.
Tumblr media
Set two starts off with a highly charged “Touch of Grey” that gets the crowd’s energy going. Immediately afterwards, Bobby strums the chords to “Looks Like Rain” but stops suddenly and instead the band breaks into “Hey Pocky Way.” What a great call! This is an immense version that showcases Brent. The dance party is in full swing.
Bobby eventually gets his way with “Looks Like Rain.” He delivers passionate vocals while Jerry delivers a textbook performance of the noodly musical “raindrops” that was a trademark of this tune in the 80s. The band breaks routine with “Estimated Prophet” by giving us a double dose of Bobby instead of the usual alternating Jerry/Bob sequence of songs. The mid-section jam builds to a nice head and Bobby gives his best screeches before the final jam which is fluid, if not standard.
“Eyes of the World” is short but sweet. However, the real buzz about this version of “Eyes” is Brent’s piano solo(!) which was fantastic and a very rare treat since that was not a song where he would typically take a solo. He should have done it more often!  Brent really brought his game to Maine. Phil also steps up for the jam. Everyone is pitching in and listening to each other making for some really strong interplay.
Normally, “Eyes” would wash out into to “Drums” but on this evening the band made the unusual decision of tacking on another song. In addition, it was very unusual for the band to play 6 songs before “Drums.” Here, Brent performs his new song, “I Will Take You Home” for just the third time. His vocals and keyboards are delivered tenderly.
During the “Drums/Space” segment, Mickey ups the ante with The Beam. Just when things can’t possibly get any weirder, Jerry brings us back to earth when he starts picking the notes to “GDTRFB.” Each of the instruments fall into place and soon we are chugging along at an upbeat pace. Brent takes a B-3 organ solo and hands it off to Jerry who builds things to a thrilling peak. Bobby continues the high energy streak with a segue into a raging “I Need a Miracle” complete with audience participation.
The show has an unusual close to it. The double-barreled rocker, ”Dear Mr. Fantasy/Hey Jude” ends with some very funny, over-the-top vocal stuff. Bobby and Brent trade incoherent screams/yelps that may be technically deficient, but the energy is amazingly high.
The “NFA” encore has a cold start with just the vocals before the music kicks in which makes for yet another unique aspect of this show.  Full crowd participation goes on for five minutes long after the band has left the stage and probably the Speedway
Mmm-bop mmm-bop bop bop…
Epilogue: Never had such a good time
Brad and I returned to the White Mountains in New Hampshire to celebrate the July Fourth Holiday with his family. We stopped in Springfield to check out the Basketball Hall of Fame on the way home. A few weeks later I traveled to Boulder, Colorado to visit some more friends in the mountains. We visited Red Rocks even though there was no concert. I wanted to experience the vibe and imagine what it would have been like to see the Grateful Dead perform there.
Tumblr media
A month later I was working at a “Big Eight” accounting firm in New York City. It certainly was a reality check but it didn’t stop me from attending 7 of the 9 shows the band played at Madison Square Garden in September. The memories of Oxford and that summer are some of the best in my life. Ah, to be 22 years old again…
Tumblr media
Thanks, Ed. That was great!

Finally, if you had bad fan dvd art on the bingo card, you’re welcome.
Tumblr media
And if you had “the original” Jerry plane dropping a Phil-bomb on your bingo card, you win. Seriously!
[Ed, we sent GDM bingo cards to all the blog followers, right? Right? Dude, idk. I didn’t, did you?? Omg. This was a thing in a zoom meeting mid-Covid. You don’t remember that. Ok. Cool. I know that 31 Days gets way more likes than LN on the ‘gram, and that’s great, really. But bingo was my idea to juice the audience. And now what. What? We are so busted. Corporate is gonna be pissed. WFH is totally over. I hope the bathroom remodel is done at HQ.]
Bingo plan aside (apparently), I will send something random – could be a snapshot, a stick of gum, a two-dollar bill, or basically anything that fits in an envelope and requires one first class stamp – to the first three people who post something substantive about this show below the line. Get to work, hippies! Free sh!t is the best

NOT kidding. Mail will be sent.
More soon.

The Most Common Issues with Toyotas and How to Get Them Fixed
Tumblr media
It's no secret that the world loves a good Toyota. From their sedans, to their ever-popular SUVs, Toyota is a best-seller in a plethora of countries. Boasting a high resale value, their cars have championed reliability.
Like other Japanese car brands, they're relatively easy to maintain. They're also highly regarded in terms of value. However, the brand isn't perfect. A browse through the plethora of Toyota owner forums online will reveal that many issues persist with specific models.
We decided to research and find out what some of the most common issues are. Various Toyota owners have reported the following problems. As a neat bonus, we're also offering solutions for each of these problems.
 Is Toyota really that reliable?
Toyotas are as reliable as they are widely believed to be. They've consistently ranked in a plethora of reliability indexes that are made for all major car brands. One such measure called ReliabilityIndex has Toyota on a high ranking.
However, this doesn't mean that the brand is infallible. Certain models such as the Toyota Camry 2007 and the Toyota RAV4 2011 have been considered infamous for having a litany of issues. From the engine overheating to various transmission troubles, there have been several complaints about such models.
The most common issues with Toyotas and how to get them fixed
Excessive oil consumption
Over the years, several Toyota owners have reported issues with their Toyota consuming excessive amounts of oil. While a thorough diagnosis is required before coming to conclusions, this most likely has something to do with the piston rings being defective.
Some major models that have been reported to have such issues include the 2009 Toyota Corolla, the 2011 Toyota Camry, and the 2008 Toyota RAV4. If you happen to experience excessive oil consumption, it's best to get a professional check your engine module, especially the piston rings.
ServiceMyCar offers you a comprehensive Toyota engine repair service. Whether it's defective piston rings, or an engine replacement, we do it all. Our Toyota service advisors guide you through the entire process and offer suggestions on what type of engine repair best suits your needs.
 Various transmission woes
The Toyota RAV4 has become the stuff of legends, and for all the wrong reasons, namely the ECM transmission failure. While they tried to remedy the situation with an extended warranty, the car is still infamous for its transmission issues.
Other transmission-related issues extend to other models too. Transmission fluid leakage, improper shifting of gears, and the gear being stuck at specific modes are common issues.
If you happen to face any of these issues, it's advisable to get your transmission module inspected by Toyota specialists at ServiceMyCar. The Toyota transmission repair covers all the transmission problems your Toyota may have. You will also get a transmission fluid top-up.
 Headlights intermittently stuttering
While the 2011 Toyota Prius is the first car that comes to your mind for this, it's been reported in other Toyota models too. This issue almost always points towards a faulty battery.
The battery powers the car and is also responsible for the proper functioning of all its electrical components. When any of the lights start to show issues, it's vital to get your battery checked.
ServiceMyCar provides a comprehensive solution for any of your battery or electrical issues. Their Toyota battery replacement will give you a new battery, and have all your electrical issues sorted.
 Bad AC compressor
This is one such issue that you don't want to have, regardless of what car you drive. Since a weak compressor results in a low cooling performance from your AC, it requires immediate attention.
The Toyota AC repair service at ServiceMyCar can identify what issues plague your compressor and have it fixed in no time.
 Uneven tread wear on tyres
Some Toyota owners have spotted uneven tread wears on their tyres. This is a classic symptom of the wheels being misaligned. While there isn't a specific model for this issue, it's a problem that could affect any car.
The only way to get this sorted is to book a Toyota wheel alignment service at ServiceMyCar. The computerised wheel alignment service will fix the alignment of your Toyota's wheels.
 Knocking noise from the engine
Engine oil is supposed to work as a lubricant for the constantly-functioning engine. When the oil has depleted, or isn't as effective, it can cause the engine's components to brush against each other. This produces the knocking sound, which is usually a sign that you need to get your oil changed immediately.
ServiceMyCar provides a packaged Toyota oil change service that includes pickup and delivery of your vehicle. You get a premium synthetic oil change, and a thorough oil filter check to get your Toyota back on track.
 Unforeseen breakdowns
Dealing with an unexpected breakdown is a problem for any car owner, let alone a Toyota owner. This is why it's always advisable to have an on-call roadside assistance service for your Toyota recovery needs.
ServiceMyCar has all your Toyota recovery needs covered, across the UAE. Simply call us at 800 2665464 or use the app and get back on the road in no time.
A few other essential Toyota services to consider
You may have noticed how most of these issues require thorough testing to determine the cause of the problem, and what solution may be required. At ServiceMyCar, you also get an intensive Toyota scanning and diagnostics service.
This service not only determines the cause of the issues, but also analyses the general health of your vehicle. Such tests are also highly effective in the case of a Toyota pre-purchase inspection. The inspection verifies the general condition of the car. This is especially useful if you plan to buy a used Toyota.
Are you searching for manual car wash near me online? ServiceMyCar does not only offer for the Toyota car services but offers affordable car wash package. Our comprehensive Toyota maintenance system also includes service packages to take care of all your Toyota servicing needs. Choose ServiceMyCar to get the best care for your Toyota.

The exhaust manifold is a system of hoses which transport hot gas out of the engine cylinders into the exhaust system. This first element of the exhaust system is pinned to the engine block. As exhaust manifolds are exposed to extreme temperatures, their failure usually results from deformation or cracking. When this happens, the noise produced by the engine is much louder, both inside and outside of the car. In addition, a malfunction of the manifold may cause the fumes flowing through it to be sucked into the cabin, which is very harmful for health.
It's very difficult for even the most experienced mechanics to properly diagnose an exhaust manifold gasket issue. In many cases, the symptoms of a damaged exhaust manifold and the gasket underneath it are very similar. In both situations, damage will cause an exhaust leak that is often detected by the sensors that connect to the vehicle's ECM. This event will instantly trigger the Check Engine Light and create an OBD-II error code that is stored in the ECM and can be downloaded by using a digital scanner.
MOBILE AUTO TRUCK REPAIR LAS VEGAS OFFERS THE FOLLOWING EXHAUST MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT SERVICE FOR OUR VALUED CUSTOMERS
The exhaust manifold must be replaced if the engine is removed from the car. In older cars, removing the screws fixing the manifold to the engine block may be difficult as they may be corroded or stuck. A good idea is to apply a rust remover one or two days before changing the manifold to loosen the screws. Removing the manifold may require disconnecting the hoses of the turbo charger of the waste gas recirculation valve. After removing the screws the remaining part of the exhaust pipe must be disconnected from the manifold.

Contract Post LA-DC-04-06 #06
This post was made by Ingersoll’s Armored Cavalry Mercenary Unit on MRBC Contract LA-DC-04-06 for the Corporate Sector, from February 1st 3097 to June 1st 3097
Tumblr media
Lyran Alliance Donegal Province Protectorate of Donegal Donegel – ‘The Trader’s World’ Seattle Continent Queen Anne Hills McQuiston Diamond Mining Northern Seattle Extraction Facility Number Six May 22nd 3097 07:15 local The chosen battlefield turned out to be a network of chasms deep enough to hide an Atlas with an occasional copse of evergreen and fir. The gulleys were sixty meters high in some spots and jagged, running north to south intersected by some running east and west. The mine complex’s unquenchable thirst for running water had quickened erosion that left water worn areas on the chasm floor, and a network of ridges and ditches between the cliff walls. Attention was needed: they were deep enough to trip a ‘Mech. It was an hour after dawn. Slate clouds blanketed the sky. All four ‘Mechs and accompany armor and infantry advanced methodically, converging on McQuiston extraction facility. Captain Gunther ‘Python’ Price advanced his Thunderbolt north from facility four; Lieutenant junior grade Catherine 'Cat' MacWhirter’s Shadow Hawk, the IAC Infiltrator Squad and the Donegal Jump Militia, were moving west upon facility five towards facility six; Sergeant Kimberly 'Lobo' Rhoe’s Vindicator, a lance of Donegal Militia Mountain Lion Armored Cars, and three platoons of Donegal Militia Field Gunners, were on the far side of facility two headed south towards the target; and Sergeant Major Rihana 'Ri-Ri's Phoenix Hawk and a lance of Main Gauche IFV, were encroaching on facility six headed east from the other side of facility number three. The lance of ‘Mechs had their radars all set to passive mode as not to reveal their positions and Kim had her Vindicator’s ECM Suite on and set to full gain. All units had reported to Gunther that they were halfway up their designated approach radials and Rihana was there point ‘Mech. Gunther could see the P Hawk skitter ahead from the center of the Main Gauche line via his radar, then slow down and turn. It’s right arm mounted ER PPC swung from side to side as Rihana swept the rock hewn chasm floor ahead, looking for a possible ambush. “Contact!” Rihana alerted everyone. The P Hawk’s radar contact warning was going crazy and over his headset Gunther could hear the alert in Rihana’s cockpit. “Four ‘Mechs heading due south. Coming right at you, ‘Python’. Speed, twenty kilometers per hour. All mediums. A Griffin, a Starslayer, an Eisenfaust, and a Cicada.” “But wait! We’re not in position yet!” It was Kim broadcasting over the comms from her Vindicator. “Well waddya want me to do about it? Call up the Covenant and ask them to hold up a sec while we get into position to kick their asses?” retorted Rihana. Gunther cut in before it got out of hand, “We’re gonna have to Improvise ‘Lobo’. All units, flank speed and converge on target. ‘Viper’, ‘Python’ here. They’ve taken the bait and are on a north to south vector.” “ ‘Viper’ reads you loud and clear ‘Python’,” answered his Angel Flight lead pilot, 1st Lieutenant Mesha 'Viper' Seville. “We’re twenty clicks out and will be on station in ten seconds. Tell all friendlies to keep their heads down cuz were comin in HOT!” Then switching channels to address only her wing mate, Ensign Erryne 'Sidewinder' Nashiro, she said, “ ‘Sidewinder’, it’s time to turn and burn. We got an invite to a party and they’re ready for us to light the candles.” As Gunther accelerated his Thunderbolt he heard two sonic booms from far off in the distance so close together they almost sounded like a single long one. The IAC two Jagdvogels AeroSpace Fighters had just broken the sound barrier. The four enemy ‘Mechs were all moving south along the chasm towards him. Either their radars had not yet detected all the targets converging on them from numerous directions or they had planned to take out the biggest threat first, his Thunderbolt; but either way the Covenant was in for a huge surprise. Gunther fired the Thunderbolt’s jump jets, lifting the 65 ton ‘Mech up into the air and steered it down among a copse of thickly wooded Evergreens. It would be several long seconds before Gunther’s other units were within range to provide some support so facing off against four ‘Mechs; he would definitely need some cover. While aloft soaring through the air, the enemy Griffin and Starslayer fired a snub-nosed PPC and an HPPC at Gunther’s Thunderbolt. They both missed but one of those beams had been near enough that it still caused electronic interference with his instrument panels. Landing among the trees, he broke off several Evergreen limbs and even split one tree half in two. He crouched his ‘Mechs legs to absorb the impact from landing and was shroud in smoke from a missed flight of LRMs, farther eroding his cover, by the Griffin which added a desultory medium laser to his oh for three connection rate. Just then Gunther saw twin silver blurs speeding overhead. His Air support was right on time. “I’m painting four enemy ground ponders against one little ole itty bitty ‘Mech. What say we try to even those odds a little ‘Sidewinder’?” “Roger that ‘Viper’. How we gonna play this, Front Door, Back Door?” “Sounds like a plan. I’ll take the front and you’ve got the back. Tally Ho!” ordered ‘Viper’ before she broke out into song, “You keepa knockin’ but you can’t come in . . .” But the Griffin’s pilot recognized what was about to happen and darted for the trees. He must have order his lightly armored rear guard unit, the Cicada to do the same because it abruptly pivoted on its backward canted legs and went rushing into a nearby tree line. Both ‘Mechs made it into cover within the proverbial nick of time. ‘Viper’ choose a dive bomb attack hoping to inflict damage on the Griffin and the Starslayersimultaneously that were in close proximity to one another. Her bombing run was dead on target. She release her full payload of six High Explosive Cluster Bombs targeted at the Griffin. The roiling fire ball in the wake off Mesha’s attack rose so high into the air, she thought of how fortunate they had been for her and her wing mate to choose separate targets because ‘Sidewinder’ would have definitely got caught in the blast. Unable to see the ‘Mech any longer due to her velocity and the smoke surrounding the target, her damage readout indicate a breach to the Griffin’s right torso armor but showed it was still standing upright. Normally six cluster bombs was enough to knock an 80 ton ‘Mech on its metal ass. Damn that broad footed Griffin. The Starslayer suffered a hell of a lot of sympathetic blast damage but the biggest loser was the forest. Her cluster bombs literally excavated the patch of forest that the Starslayer had been standing in and left very few for protecting its buddy, the Griffin. ‘Sidewinder’s strike wasn't any better and her target was only 40 tons, fifteen tons lighter than the Griffin. She performed a strafing run with all energy weapons, and wasn’t even rewarded with a breach. Her attack just burned up mostly foliage and forest flotsam. “Sorry ‘Python’. No joy. They’re your problem now. We’ll swing by and make another pass, ‘Viper’ out.” Gunther couldn’t see the Griffin either due to the copious amount of smoke and debris, but he trusted his thermal imaging display. He lined up his left arm ER PPC for a head shot and let it fly. At first he thought he had missed the target entirely so he followed it up with his ERLL and the pilot turned and caught the 8cm blast on its shoulder. Well I’ll be damned!. “All units, check fire! The Griffin is toting around reflective armor!” Gunther just hoped the entire enemy lance wasn’t equipped with reflective armor. It halved all the damage from energy weapons and that’s what his lance was primarily armed with, Energy Weapons. Their role was Sniping for Christ’s Sake! Up on the northern approach Kim vaulted her Vindicator up on the cliff to land amidst a friendly militia platoon darn near causing a blue on blue incident. The platoon heard the ‘Mechs roaring jump jets and scrambled out of its way like roaches when the lights come on. One trooper had to dive, outstretched parallel to the ground, to grab a fellow troopers hand just as he went over the edge of the cliff. “Oops,” Kim said sheepishly over her external speakers. “Sorry guys. My bad.” Rihana and the lance of IFV had made it to firing range and opened up on facility six. “They weren’t bullshittin’ about them having a reinforced building,” she blurted as her team hit the building with four plasma rifles and her P Hawk’s ER PPC. The combined firepower merely slagged armor but failed to breach. “Standard Armor on the Eisenfaust!” reported ‘Cat’ has she reached out with the man made lightning from her Shadow Hawk’s HPPC boring a gaping hole in the enemy ‘Mech’s chest plate, staggering the Eisenfaust and upsetting its aim for its return fire. However, the Eisenfaust’s ballistic weapon, an 103mm auto cannon, had a lot faster reload time than the Shadow Hawk’s HPPC could recharge. The Shadow Hawk was barreling down on the Eisenfaust at maximum speed. The enemy pilot moved slowly and spread its feet wide apart to brace itself against the recoil from the auto cannon and it fired. The slug tore into the Shadow Hawk’s left leg, shredding armor plates but Catherine hardly even acknowledge it. She was going for the Kill shot. She peppered the Eisenfaust’s right leg with her ER medium laser until she got tone and lock with her main gun, the ER PPC. She was aiming for the hole she had just created in the ‘Mech’s chest armor. She caressed the trigger and her aim was true. The HPPC wreaked havoc on the unprotected, delicate innards of the Eisenfaust’s central torso. She saw the ejection couch streak skyward but did not have to deal with as they still had three BattleMechs bearing down on Gunther. “The Eisenfaust has been dispatch and will be suitable for salvage. Hang on ‘Python’, I’m about to be in their rear.” “Acknowledged ‘Cat’!” replied Gunther as he leapt his ‘Mech back farther away from the three advancing enemy ‘Mechs. He was trying to prevent the Cicada from getting into his own rear arc. Even though it was only equipped with two medium laser, they could play havoc with a ‘Mech’s rear armor where it was the thinnest. At the apex of his jump he launched a salvo from his LRM rack aimed at the Griffin’s head. He connected a second time as he saw small armor patches go flying off in all kinds of directions but still no breach and the ‘Mech still didn’t go down. Gunther reached out and popped the smaller Cicada with his ERLL, evaporating all the armor covering its stubby left ‘wing’, just to keep the enemy pilot honest. The enemy lances return fire failed to do any significant damage but Gunther didn’t know how much longer this would last. The Cicada missed with both its medium laser at the edge of its extreme weapons range and the Starslayer missed because Gunther was hopping from evergreen grove to fir groove like a mad kangaroo. The enemy Griffin caught his Thunderbolt in its massively Ryerson 150 armored chest after it had touched back down to the Donegal surface. He was most definitely the Commanding Officer of these ragtag Mechwarriors. The IFVs along with Rihana P Hawk continued to pour fire into facility six. A couple of the Mountian lion Armored cars had gotten into range and had added their PPC fire and SRM six packs to the onslaught. Finally the combine fire power brought down the facility’s western wall. “Alright, all IAC personnel converge on my location. I’m still outnumbered three to one down here. The militia forces can flush the covenant out of the building,” ordered Gunther. The covenant infantry forces began spilling from facility six clad in Nighthawk PA(L) armor. They traded shots with the two lances of armor from the Donegal Militia causing some minor damage to their movement systems and armor. All in all, the militia gave better than it got. Just as Kimberly had expounded on, the IAC wasn’t yet in position to launch a proper ambush so she was still more than two clicks away from engaging enemy ‘Mechs. Likewise so was the IAC Infiltrator battle armor squad, the three Militia field Gunners and the Militia jump infantry. But they kept their jump jets lit and kept on bounding towards the target. Kim’s Vindicator was at the far limit of its ER PPC and took a shot at the PA(L) spilling from the mining facility. She missed but succeeded in scattering two enemy squads with her heavy weapon. Both ’Hawks fired into the target rich environment full of Nighthawk PA(L)s as well as the ran past the now crumbling building. Rihana’s Phoenix Hawk’s two lasers caught two of the lightly armored suits, bowling them over, leaving their suits in smoking tatters that would stop a BB gun. ‘Cat’s Shadow Hawk left one on the roof a singed pile of glowing embers, man, suit, all of it burnt to a crisp. The P Hawk had gotten close enough to draw the fire of the Starslayer. That was good, Now Gunther had two antagonist to worry about. The Starslayer fired its HPPC at Rihana’s ‘Mech and missed but in doing so exposed its inviting rear armor to Gunther. The Captain could not resist. The Thunderbolt’s ER PPC skewered the armor covering its back and punched through and began melting internal circuitry. The ER LL did the same thing to its left torso rear armor, burned through frying delicate components. Gunther switch to his ‘Follow the Leader’ LRM ammo and launched it as well. All 15 missiles impact the left arm leaving it bereft of armor and any working mechanisms in that location has the arm swung down heavily, crashing against the ‘Mechs left side. The shot of opportunity caused him to delay a little on his next vault. He paid for his transgression. The Cidada melted armor from the Thunderbolt’s left leg and the Griffin caught him with missiles in its right on. He fired the jump jets causing the Griffin to miss with its follow up Snub nosed PPC and its ER medium laser. On his way up into the air, Gunther keyed his mic to his AeroSpace pilot. “ ‘Viper’, how long before your able to make your second pass? We could use your firepower down here right about now.” “Eight seconds. Count’em. Sorting through possible firing solutions on my targeting computer as we speak. You want I should drop ordinance on the facility proper? Over.” “That’s a negative Angel Flight Actual. Friendlies are in the area. Target enemy ‘Mechs only.” “Roger that ‘Big Daddy’. That’s a negative on bombing run. Seven seconds to the light show. ‘Viper’ out.” Gunther saw the enemy ‘Mechs starting to respond to the IAC ‘Mechs coming up in their rear so he allowed his ‘Mech to drift sideways and out of the cover of the evergreens. The Cicada still trying to work its way around into his rear arc popped Gunther in his ‘Mech’s left side as soon as he lit on the precipes. Probably aiming for his gun arm, hoping to disable it. “I’m here ‘Python’,” it was ‘Cat’. “No LOS to the Griffin nor the Starslayer. Have tone on the Cicada but no lock. Twelve percent targeting solution. Bait and Switch?” “Bait and Switch. On my mark.” Bait and Switch was a tactic ‘Mechwarriors used to Bait an enemy into Switching targets. In that fraction of a moment while the enemy pilot switched targets he would move his hands from his throttle to switch targets, and that made him vulnerable to friendly fire. “Three, two, MARK!” Catherine launched an MML five salvo and fired her HPPC not expecting a hit merely to get the targets attention. It worked like a charm. By the time the Cicada pilot realized he had fallen for their ploy it was too late. A five centimeter laser beam was already on its way to the speedy ‘Mech’s head. It rang her bell and caused her to see stars. His next shot left rents in her center torso so one could see the sparking wires inside. His third ER medium laser beam went through the rents and hit the engine shielding in a flare up of waste heat. Dividing his fire at another tempting rear armor shot, Gunther launched another salvo of ‘Follow the Leader’ long ranged warheads at the back of the Griffin. Twelve missiles connected in its rear armor, dead center, blowing clean through it. The ‘Mech was trailing dark, black smoke, but somehow it still remained upright and on its feet. Its Starslayer buddy pointed its arm skyward and fired at the incoming Jagdvogel. “ABORT! ABORT! Taking incoming surface to air fire!’’ shouted ‘Sidewinder’ over the battle wide comms as she veered off of her intended target and pulled the fighter skyward. Knowing she’d only have a few precious seconds before the weapon recharged, ‘Viper’ stayed the course. She unleashed a laser light show that would have rivaled the terran holiday fourth of July. Most of her beams hit the ‘Mech in its lower extremities but a few melted armor on the Starslayer’s arms and chest armor. She left it with only 20% protection on its left leg and right torso. “Softened him up some for you ‘Python’. You’ll have to do the rest on your own. ‘Viper’ over and out.” The Griffin firing at a target that Gunther could not see, signaled the arrival of Rihana's Phoenix Hawk. The enemy commander missed with both weapons, his Snub nosed PPC and his LRM 15 rack, which told Gunther that the enemy pilot was rattled. Check and Mate. ‘Ri-Ri’ continued to close with the enemy ‘Mech, firing an ER medium laser to the Griffin’s right, firing an ER medium laser to the Griffin’s left, to keep it in place until she was in optimal range for her ER PPC. When she got tone and lock, she fired. A kinetic blue electron rope reached out and blasted through its right side armor, through everything impeding its progress inside the ‘Mech’s right torso, and continued out through its back, destroying its rear armor as well. The right arm cartwheeled off across the terrain and still the pilot of that Griffin did not go down. The allied militia armor was having their way with the enemy Nighthawk platoon. The PA(L) armor was dropping like flies in a rainstorm. They were even backed up by the IAC Vindicator who was still to far off to lend any assistance to the ‘Mech battle farther south. They had now taken down the north wall and the building looked like a cracked walnut, opened for the slaughter. Robbed of its main weapon; and his attacker was too far inside of its minimum range to launch its long ranged missiles, all the Griffin had left in order to defend itself was a measly ER medium laser; which he fired at the unrelenting P Hawkto no avail. The Starslayer attempted to down the aggressive Phoenix Hawk Pilot with its weapons fire – two medium lasers and a HPPC. It connected solidly with the right torso and the left torso armor. And the HPPC blast even threaten to tear through the P Hawk’s left side reducing it to less than ten percent remaining armor in that location. Catherine had fired her jump jets and had landed directly to the rear of the Starslayer, firing point blank into its back. “I’ll cover you Girl!” The HPPC ate through whatever it touched after searing off the Starslayer rear armor. The intense heat burst two heat sinks and the electric feedback caused its HPPC to malfunction and go off line. “He won’t be using that weapon again any time soon!” Un-phased, with blood in her eyes, and the scent of a kill in the wind, Rihana drew into knife fighting range with the enemy Griffin. She unleashed her arsenal of four ER medium lasers and connected with all four, right arm, left arm, left torso, right leg and still couldn’t fell that ‘Mech. Now that the two ‘Mech’s had been defanged, robbed as they both were of their main weapons, Gunther could direct his main gun to the pesky little Cicada. One shot, center mass was all it took, to cave in its armor and cause the ejection seat to go flying skyward. “The Cicada has been neutralized.” Inside the Griffin Gunther glimpsed an orange explosion. Something had cooked off, perhaps its LRM ammo or one of the jump jets’ fuel tanks. The ‘Mech was staggering now, limping with its left leg and dragging the useless right one behind it. Thick smoke poured from several holes in its back. It had suffered a coolant failure. It stopped moving and crouched. Something flashed and Gunther saw ‘Cat’ flashing her spotlight at him. Catherine raise both the Shadow Hawk’s arms up in the air then pointed one north up the chasm. Gunther bobbed the T Bolt’s head up and down, pantomiming agreement, and ‘Cat’ took off. She was going to reinforce the assault on the facility. Gunther and Rihana could handle these two by themselves. All they had to do was to accept the enemy’s surrender. 3642 Words

Four Symptoms of a Faulty ABS Wheel Speed Sensor
Tumblr media
The ABS sensors assess wheel speed, and if one of them fails, it might cause serious problems. Here are several frequent indicators that your sensor is malfunctioning.
The ABS wheel speed sensor serves a variety of purposes, making it an important component of your vehicle. You may notice a number of signs when one's condition begins to deteriorate.
A failed MOT test can also be caused by a faulty wheel speed sensor, therefore get the damaged wheel speed sensors replaced by a qualified mechanic before scheduling your next MOT testing service.
An ABS warning light appears on your dashboard as the most prevalent indicator of a faulty ABS sensor. You could also notice a pulsing brake pedal or a full failure of the anti-lock brake system while braking.
If you carry out a MOT history checker online for your car and discover that a prior failure was due to the ABS light being on, it's possible that the problem was caused by broken wheel speed sensors.
As you can see, there aren't many indicators that an ABS sensor has failed. This is because, in order to avoid accidents, the ABS control module will illuminate the ABS warning light and deactivate the system. Here's a more in-depth look at the most prevalent signs of a faulty ABS wheel speed sensor:
1.     Warning Lights - Illuminated A number of crucial lights on your dashboard warn you of impending danger. The ABS light is likely one of the first signs of problematic ABS wheel speed sensor symptoms when the ABS wheel speed sensor fails. It might merely cause the ABS warning light to illuminate at first. When the other systems stop working correctly, the traction and stability control warning lights may illuminate as well. If this occurs, go online and look for car repairs near me to schedule an appointment with a certified technician. Defective ABS wheel speed sensors might cause the speedometer to cease registering in rare situations.
2.     Pulsating Brake Pedal - While braking, the ABS sensors detect the speeds of each wheel, and if one of the ABS sensors fails, it will read the incorrect speed on one or more wheels. The ABS control module will be deceived into thinking the vehicle is sliding on a slick surface as a result of this. Because this is an unsafe, search online for car services near me and schedule an appointment with a repair garage as soon as you notice a pulsing brake pedal. The ABS and traction control will activate as a result, and you may notice a pulsing or pumping brake pedal while braking.
3.     Anti-lock Brakes Failure - When an ABS wheel sensor fails, the anti-lock brakes become inoperative. When a malfunction is detected, the system sends out an alarm, and the ABS warning light illuminates. The electrical control module of the car then ceases receiving crucial data from the sensor. This information is used by the computer to evaluate if the wheels are locking up and need assistance. Because the ABS system has no idea what's going on, it shuts down until the problem is fixed.
4.      Loss of Traction or Stability Control - Other issues, such as stability control, traction control, roll stability, and hill-start assist, might all be lost. The computer turns off these systems when the sensor ceases delivering information. Even if the ABS light is turned off, you may have troubles. The ABS wheel speed sensor might be to blame if you have trouble maintaining traction in bad weather or notice handling concerns when braking rapidly. Damaged electrical connections between the sensor and the ECM might also be to blame.
Function of an ABS Wheel Speed Sensor
The ABS wheel speed sensor is often known as the ABS brake sensor or simply the ABS sensor. It is a vital aspect of the ABS, whatever it is named.
Most new cars are equipped with an anti-lock braking system (ABS). ABS wheel sensors detect the rotation speed of the wheels and are mounted to the wheels or axle. A toothed ring and magnet, encased in a coil, are found in most ABS sensors. When the magnet and the ring make contact, an electric field is created, which is converted into a signal and supplied to the ABS controller.
The controller regulates the speed of each wheel or axle from here. This data is subsequently sent to the Engine Control Module.
The ABS is initiated when the ECM detects a wheel that is locking up. It runs at such a high pace that it frequently emits a grinding sound along with a throbbing feeling.
The ABS sensor helps manage the movement of the vehicle in risky conditions if the vehicle also has traction control. When traction is lost, one wheel's speed differs from the others, forcing the mechanism to engage.
The computer causes problems by reducing the amount of braking force given to the wheel. When this force is reduced, the wheel is able to acquire grip and revolve normally once again. The stability control systems in modern vehicles are also controlled by these sensors.

Car Cooling Systems and Emissions
At the point when the greater part of us consider present day cooling frameworks, we will in general think overheating, spills, and possibly poor lodge heat. In any case, another legitimate explanation behind keeping up and investigating cooling frameworks is their immediate effect on the motor's discharges level and efficiency. How about we start by investigating the ignition procedure. The motor packs the blend to raise pressure. This, thus, expands the temperature of the air/fuel blend and helps in burning. On the off chance that the ignition chamber is excessively cool, the procedure needs additional fuel to protect burning. Think about the old carbureted long stretches of thermostatically controlled stifles that enrichened the blend on cool beginnings. There is even a powertrain DTC doled out to this very issue...P0128, Engine is cold excessively long. A few producers have one of a kind code assignments for this issue. On the off chance that the burning chamber temperature gets excessively hot, Nox outflows will increment. While typically the activity of the EGR framework, it can just cool to such an extent. In the event that the motor itself is running more sweltering than typical, the advantage of included EGR is diminished. Diagnosing the P0128 Diagnostic Trouble Code The ECM (Engine Control Module) is accused of watching out for any framework that will affect what leaves the tailpipe. Regularly, the ECM screens the ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensor after a virus start, searching for the motor coolant to arrive at ordinary temperature in a preset time span. On the off chance that the ECM doesn't see its limit an incentive in the apportioned time, it expect there is an issue in the cooling framework, keeping typical working temperature from being accomplished. This is a 2-trip code, implying that if the ECM gets similar outcomes after 2 back to back tests, it will record the code and turn on the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp). The code model gives hints on what to test. To start with, the ECT sensor must peruse accurately. The ECM can just put together its choices with respect to the data it gets. Second, the cooling framework must be working properly...coolant levels must be right, no air in the framework, cooling fans cycling typically and the indoor regulator opening and shutting as it should. Luckily, every one of these variables can be tried at once with negligible exertion. As far as I can tell, the indoor regulator is typically the offender. Be that as it may, to ensure, I set up a couple of screens of my own during the test. In the first place, I connect the output instrument and show the ECT perusing, situating the sweep apparatus in the engine where I can watch it. Second, I utilize a temperature test connected to my DVOM (Digital Volt-Ohm Meter) and spot the test in the radiator blades as near the outlet hose from the motor as I can get. (Ensure it is the outlet from the motor and not the arrival.) Last, I utilize an infrared temperature firearm to quantify temperature on the channel side of the indoor regulator lodging. Presently I can begin my test. Turn over the motor and watch the ECT perusing. It should climb easily. You can even diagram the information if your sweep apparatus has this element to check whether the sign drops out during warm-up. I utilize the infrared firearm to quantify the temperature on the channel side of the indoor regulator lodging to contrast with the ECT perusing. While not precise, it is for the most part inside a couple of degrees if the sensor is perusing effectively. The shade of the surface, and the material it's made of, will influence your temperature firearm's perusing. Simultaneously, I'm viewing the temperature perusing on my DVOM. In the event that it, as well, climbs very quickly after beginning up, I realize the indoor regulator isn't shut. Obviously, you can tell this by feel too, however hold on for me...I'm not done at this point. In the event that the DVOM perusing remains cold, I continue checking the motor temperature readings. When I see the ECT perusing close to the determination for opening of the indoor regulator, I hope to check whether the outlet temperature starts to increment. Provided that this is true, the indoor regulator is opening as it should. If not, the indoor regulator is stuck shut, or there is potential air in the framework influencing its activity. In the event that the indoor regulator opens rashly, it might have been supplanted with one of the erroneous rating, or have a harmed spring or seat. In the event that everything is great to this point, the issue is absent at the hour of testing. This could demonstrate an issue in the wiring from the ECT sensor to the ECM, and electrical checks might be all together. Keep in mind, the ECM can just put together its choices with respect to the data it gets, and if the ECM thinks the motor is cold it will in any case modify its underlying fuel figurings as needs be. Obviously, if the cooling fans please quickly and remain on, the cooling fan control framework should be analyzed and remedied before continuing. While You're At It Since I'm as of now associated, I keep on running the motor to ordinary working temperature, ensuring it balances out. Running out of gear, with no wind current over the radiator, will enable the motor's cooling framework to be worried to perform at its best. I can test the activity of the electric cooling fans by estimating the temperature at which they please, and by the amount of a temperature drop I see as they cycle. As far as I can tell, the fans should come on between 210-240 degrees F as estimated at the radiator, and keep on having until fever drops by 40-60 degrees F. Evaluate your estimations on realized great vehicles to set up your very own demonstrative standard. On vehicles with thick fans, temperature should remain generally steady. In the event that motor temperatures continue ascending in the wake of running them for a little while, it's an ideal opportunity to take a gander at framework coolant stream and wind current as supporters of the issue. Presently we're in the region of higher than typical motor temperatures and emissions...specifically the arrangement of Nox. Jazz Is… #9: Keith Jarrett
Tumblr media
Yes. Keith Jarrett was that cool. (He still is, fwiw.) The hair, the stache, the shades, the suede, the denim, and the je ne sais quoi. It looks like he was walking along a cold beach and struck a casual pose, which ended up as a behind the scenes promo pic from a lost Scorsese premake of Louis Malle’s Atlantic City, for someone who saw him a few weeks before at Köln.
Köln. Sigh. Jarrett’s The Köln Concert was a soundtrack (there were many, ohai every Pavement album) of my 20s. I didn’t finish law school until I was 25, but the whole weird deal was just a more challenging – academically, sure, but also socially, whoa – version of college. So when I was done with being student, I was still a punk-ass kid. (And a licensed attorney. Snap!) Those three years, I’m convinced, paused/stunted my mental age. I still feel a very spry 26 – or a not so much 49. It varies.
After three years and a bar exam, some people do crazy shit, like skydive. Or travel the world. Or join a firm. I wasn’t ready for that prime time. I wasn’t ready for much because I wasn’t good at much, except studying and learning. So I reupped for another year in the shit. (Fun fact: There’s such a thing as graduate law school.) I figured that academia is insular, thinking is cool, and matriculating again is a solid fake for ambition. Tbh, I just hoped that eventually I’d have enough frequent blue-booker miles that they’d just let me stick around and teach something harmless like Civil Procedure. They didn’t. Those jobs go to Ph.D.’s, and I had other letters.
A year with the best view in the best place, and my landing point was my parents’ basement. I played too much Tetris, sent cover letters and resumés for positions that I didn’t want, and swept floors at a print shop. That was a great job, thanks to a family friend. I could make my car payment (GEO Tracker, r.i.p.), but not my student loan payments. So it was dodge near-constant lender phone calls, defer defer defer, and apply apply apply. Finally, I got a hit. Trial court law clerk. Let’s go.
I moved to Chicago in August 1996. Freedom from my folk’s often fraught, but ultimately supportive, house. Curiosity in a metropolis. Anxiety about work. Riding the el downtown every day, and experiencing, for the first time, the often messy and always improvisational possibilities of grown-up life. LIFE. You know?
Keith Jarrett knew, seemed like, in my Walkman headphones. He was humming along to his own melodies. Just make it up, man. Be confident in your own abilities, and express yourself. If nobody pays attention, they’re square. And it doesn’t matter, anyway, because this is your trip. The Köln Concert is nostalgic for me because I first heard it back then. It’s also sad for me because the guy who told me to listen to it isn’t here.
MRH was my best friend. We talked almost every day, before and after we both jumped into the city. Tied up in revisiting this record is some grief and, even more than that, a nauseating sense of wasted potential. His, and mine. The world was big to us – globally and locally. A multi-continental place of art and music, and ideas. He never got to explore it, as much as he probably wanted, and I never tried.
I thought that I was experiencing stuff? Mostly, I sat on a futon couch in a third floor apartment on Chicago’s northwest side (Lincoln Square/Ravenswood – my stop/street was Rockwell), petted my then-gf’s eternally cool lap cat (Winchester), read difficult modern (Faulkner, Joyce) and postmodern (Pynchon, Barth) fiction, and pretended to be a serious large-format photographer. Basically, I kept doing what I knew how to do – I fed my brain. Then I got on the train the next day. And over and over and over.
It was all a cool coast, until I had a cancer scare, got married, moved to the ‘burbs, had kids, and got divorced. (Talk about the often messy and always improvisational possibilities of grown-up life.) At that point, I truly learned to riff. Hence, in a way, LN. And then Matt died.
I digress. Just context. This is about Keith Jarrett, not Matt or me.
Keith Jarrett was something of a wünderkind (three umlauts in this post already, yo). He was born on May 8, 1945 in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Apparently, he displayed perfect pitch, which Wiki defines as “a rare auditory phenomenon characterized by the ability of a person to identify or re-create a given musical note without the benefit of a reference tone,” as a youngster. He started piano lessons at age three, and at age five appeared on a local tv talent show. At age seven, his first recital included works by Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. He attended public high school and then the Berklee College of Music in Boston.  After a year, he moved to New York City and began gigging.
His first big job was with Art Blakey, and his first recording was the Jazz Messengers’ 1966 live album Buttercorn Lady. At a show, he met drummer Jack DeJohnette (more on him later), who played in Charles Lloyd’s Quartet. DeJohnette recommended Jarrett to Lloyd, and Jarrett joined the band. He appeared on Lloyd’s well-regarded 1966 live album Forest Flower (from the Monterrey Jazz Festival), as well as several subsequent albums. By 1967, he had recorded his debut as a leader – Life Between the Exit Signs.
Tumblr media
Lloyd’s group dissolved in 1968, and Jarrett was invited to join the Miles Davis group. There are disputing accounts of when/how they met. Miles was beginning his fusion phase, and Jarrett switched from acoustic to electric – specifically, the Fender Contempo electric organ and the Fender Rhodes electric piano. With Davis, he shared keyboard duties with Chick Corea, and they played side-by-side on the 1970 classic At Fillmore and both the studio and live parts of that year’s Teo Macero-produced pastiche Live-Evil, which also featured LN fave Herbie Hancock. The live parts of that album were recorded in D.C. on December 16-19, 1970 with just Jarrett on keys. (Eventually, all four nights became The Cellar Door Sessions box set – highly recommended.)
Tumblr media
Jarrett left Davis’ group around that time. For much of the ’70s, he helmed two parallel ensembles, the so-called American Quartet with saxophonist Dewey Redman, Charlie Haden, and Paul Motian, and the European Quartet with saxophonist Jan Garbarek, bassist Palle Danielsson, and drummer Jon Christensen. Both played a distinct blend of post-bop and free jazz, and released several albums. (I’m not super familiar with that body of work, but I sampled some of it on Spotify – it’s good.) Jarrett’s legacy endures, however, because of other recordings from that era, in which he took a turn from loud to quiet.
The Jarrett wiki, a primary source here, explains that he became strongly opposed to electronic music and instruments, waging what he called “an anti-electric music crusade” because “[e]lectricity goes through all of us and is not to relegated to wires.” The initial salvo in that crusade came in 1973 with the release of the triple album (whut), Solo Concerts: Bremen/Lausanne, Time magazine’s “Jazz Album of the Year.”
A guy named Mikal Gilmore in his book Night Beat said, “with Bremen-Lausanne and the subsequent Köln Concert, Jarrett found his niche, freely mixing gospel, impressionist, and atonal flights into a consonant whole.” Guys, this is solo piano like you’ve never heard. It’s not Bill Evans by himself playing chestnuts, and maybe a medley of a few that lasts ten minutes. It’s Keith Jarrett by himself playing whatever comes into his head for a serious while. Bremen is two tracks – they clock at 18:03 and 45:09. Lausanne is a single track – 64:54. Quick math: The latter is more than an hour of straight-up improv.
Then, two years later, there was The Köln Concert, reportedly the best-selling solo piano album ever. (Weird fact, and I saw it alot while researching this post. I’m guessing it’s more like best-selling solo jazz piano album ever, but I can’t be bothered to confirm that.)
In 1971, Jarrett and DeJohnette released a duo record called Ruta and Daitya on ECM (Edition of Contemporary Music), a label founded by a German guy named Manfred Eicher in 1969. In ’75, Eicher convinced Jarrett to do a “driving tour” of solo concerts across Europe. A seventeen year-old named Vera Brandes organized a concert in Köln, or Cologne, as we say. Here’s Brandes in a contemporary pic – I couldn’t find anything from back then. She looks cool and determined. She obviously was back then.
Tumblr media
Jarrett requested, and Brandes promised, a Bösendorfer 290 Imperial grand piano.  The Cologne Opera House backstage staff found another Bösendorfer, a baby grand, and put it onstage. The baby was out of tune, and worse, according to Wiki, “tinny and thin in the upper registers and weak in the bass register.” And the pedals didn’t work. Nobody was the wiser, until Jarrett showed up late after a five-hour, 350-mile drive in a Renault 5 from Zurich, where he had played a few nights earlier.
Tumblr media
Jarrett was hungry and suffering from back pain, which required a brace. According to his account of the evening, which is part of the Grammy Hall of Fame’s site about the album, some of the tour was scheduled to be recorded, and some was not. Here’s Jarrett himself:
“[T]he Cologne concert was one that was definitely scheduled to be recorded. However, for a 24-hour period before we got to Cologne, we had not slept at all. When we arrived at the hotel, I tried to take a nap. But it was impossible to do so.
The producer of the concert came to take us to the venue in his Rolls-Royce, a car that was so over the top that we could have eaten dinner in it, on the perfectly made wood panels. But we didn’t really learn the problems we were facing, until we arrived at the hall. I went onstage and realized, ‘Hey, I have a Bösendorfer, here and it’s not the right size and it sounds like a modified electric harpsichord.’ And then we found out that they couldn’t get the right piano, even though it existed, because their rental truck was gone.
At that point, we probably said all kinds of curse words. And we started to tell the engineers, ‘Maybe you can just pack up.’ But then Manfred and I both sort of thought that was crazy. The recording equipment was already set up. So we decided to just make a tape of the performance, even it if was just for ourselves. So we went to dinner. It was already late, I was due to go onstage soon, we’d had so many hassles, and the piano was such a terrible instrument. And I hadn’t slept anyway. So I was in almost hell. Then we went to this Italian restaurant where, for some perfectly symmetrical reason, we were served way last. Everyone else was eating, I was the one who was going to play in an hour, and I still didn’t have any food. And then when they finally brought the food, I was still hungry, because I wasn’t happy with the food they served.
All I remember after the restaurant fiasco is taking a peek at the engineers sitting, waiting with their equipment. They had everything ready. And I started thinking, ‘I’m going to do this.’ I remember putting my fist up in the air on the way out from backstage. I just looked at Manfred and said, ‘Power!’ or something.”
After several hours of tuning and adjustment, the piano was some semblance of playable. Jarrett took the stage at 11:30 p.m., following an opera performance – the only time slot that a teenage booker could arrange, apparently. Still, the show was sold out – 1,400 people at $1.72 per. Jarrett made do with his instrument, concentrating his notes in the middle of the keyboard. Again, per his account to the Grammys:
“It just seemed like everybody in the audience was there for a tremendous experience, and that made my job easy. What happened with this piano was that I was forced to play in what was — at the time — a new way. Somehow I felt I had to bring out whatever qualities this instrument had.
And that was it. My sense was, ‘I have to do this. I’m doing it. I don’t care what the fuck the piano sounds like. I’m doing it.’ And I did.”
Tumblr media
The entire record is about an hour long, but the performance was three pieces – 26: 02, 33:13 (broken into two parts, even on the digital version), and a 6:57 “encore.” Hear it yourself.
In 1990, for the first time, Jarrett agreed to publish an authorized transcription of his performance. (That’s for the music geeks, who might happen across this blogpost. The Wiki of the album talks about vamping, chords, and a rubato feel. I don’t understand, but whatever.)
In 1977, Jarrett, DeJohnette, and bassist Gary Peacock recorded together on the latter’s record Tales of Another. In 1983, Eicher proposed that the three of them perform together for an album on ECM. Jarrett suggested that they do standards, and the “Standards Trio” was born. The initial sessions are now a box set, titled Setting Standards.
Tumblr media
Everything by that group is great, and there’s alot, including another acclaimed box set that documents three nights at NYC’s Blue Note in 1994. They released an album last year.
Jarrett continues to perform solo piano concerts, too. I’ve listened to alot of them. And they’re all special.
Köln will always be special-er. The encore that night was not wholly improvised, but based on a “Real Book” compilation tune known as “Memories of Tomorrow.” Prescient, I guess. In 1975, Jarrett was playing a song that forty-some years later would spark my memories of yesterday. Miss you, dude.

Higher burning chamber temperatures can likewise cause "sparkle thump", and this, in overabundance, can prompt motor harm. Investigate these frameworks as you would typically. check here radiadores industriales Business Name: Bufalo Radiadores • Street Address: Av.  ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR REPLACEMENT SERVICE
Today's engines monitor virtually every function to ensure your vehicle runs strongly and efficiently every day. One of the most important systems to monitor is the cooling system, which includes the radiator, water pump, radiator fan, coolant lines, and overflow tank. The coolant temperature sensor, also known as the coolant temperature switch, is the engine management system that monitors the temperature of the coolant and relays this information to the ECM. When the sensor is functioning properly, it will tell your on board computer if the temperature is too high, alerting the driver that a problem exists by illuminating a warning light on the dashboard.
The coolant temperature sensor (switch) utilizes electrical resistance to measure the coolant's temperature. When the signal is sent to the ECM, the computer adjusts the vehicles ignition timing, fuel flow, and other factors that trim or enhance performance based on the coolant temperature.
