As per my last email (don't you hate it when you receive a message that begins that way) — or, shall say, post — I've learned some new tips. First — there is beauty in small details. But my iPhone finds it challenging to capture the subtle beauty, so you'll have to contend with the bigger picture. I read a quote today that I like — about achievement — "Before the gates of excellence, the high gods have placed sweat.” I'm attempting to complete a monumental task this week, and I feel overwhelmed. I want to expand the teaching resources I created under my @stonesoferasmus brand — I have to go and proofread my inventory of 137 digital downloads I've created. I like the “making part” of the process — using design skills and creating incredible resources that middle and high school students can use. It's just very time-consuming. So to inspire me, I take long walks — hence the photos you see — and eat healthy — and stretch. Also — I got a bigger monitor for my computer. OMG. Having a large screen to work on makes a huge difference when creating digital stuff. OMG. My goal is to have 200 products reviewed and created by the end of Summer. And on top of that I'm taking a class on Special Education and Differentiation at Hunter College. The course is good — it solidifies some things I already knew about teaching and has already given me good ideas to move forward. Next year I'm teaching a section of Eighth Grade English, a World Religions class, a New York City history class — paired with Tenth and Eleventh graders in a combined section. Whew. I better get to planning. But. Oh. I see a bird in a tree. Ohh. Let me check this out. *Loses thirty minutes*. ECLECTIC FURNITURE INSPIRED BY CHINESE CURSIVE

Inspired by Caoshu, the skill of Chinese cursive brush writing, this eclectic furniture was inspired and designed as ‘Cursive Structure’. Mimicking the flowy elegant letters of Caoshu, the pieces seem like dragons soaring with the sky, and they've been named the Dragon Console Table and Dragon Chair rightfully. He transformed the strokes of Caoshu into beautiful 3D designs by making use of paper craft strategies to woodwork. By bending plywood, he produced curved bases after which capped them served by stainless panels, which function as the sitting area and tabletops correspondingly. The pieces were then stained with black and white to support the essence of Chinese calligraphy. I love the “especially when they’re wrong.” This is sooooo true but so hard to do! Our natural reaction is to try and teach and correct but it often comes across as judgement and belittlement. If we can allow children to learn how to think for themselves, they will learn their own mind and there is no greater gift. No single fact about life or learning could equal the infinite knowledge one can possess from simply knowing their own mind. • E’s been learning about how to make an outline ✍️🗒this week • : this is a growth area for him - writing. his attitude + willingness to write has improved very much compared to a year ago and #writingorganizers like #writingoutlines and #brainstormingthoughts on a dry erase board has helped greatly (dry erase vs paper is great if your babes dont like crossing out things and keeping their slate clean). : One of the things I’ve learned the most when #homeschooling2e is - to be patient in their #asynchronousdevelopment and areas. fine motor skills can get to develop in other more enjoyable ways like sketching + coloring for instance (and lately) - which will eventually feed into the writing space. : If your child enjoys dictating thoughts + stories to you but is still not ready to do the dual process of craft the word dialogue in their minds AND write - be their scribe until they’re ready. : There was a bit of a block in thought flow when we tried this out signaling that readiness was not yet there, and so you adjust accordingly 🖤. : We’ve also taken a break from our byl lit read aloud copy work and have been discussing copying song lyrics for a change. we started getting back into the swing of things today. We read about shooting stars or meteors... and how the very bright ones are called fireballs ☄️(we then listened to Pitbull’s song fireball because it came to mind 😂, and hey, anything that will help the information stick is a win in my book). . . We also learned one of the myths of why we kiss under the mistletoe (we hung our first fresh bunch for the first time this year, seen here). After another chapter of #oddandthefrostgiants (one of our read alouds for #buildyourlibrarylevel2 ). . . The kids finally filled out their l new year’s sheets (we try to do every year). What We’re Reading About in History Today 📚 . . The Medes + the Persians in #storyoftheworldbook1 🌎 . .
