This is a few days late but I've been beset upon by all manner of inconveniences. Life imitating art really. In this chapter, Frisk and Chara hitchhike with strangers.

a soul of determination | one
john wick x reader undertale au ; idiots to lovers <3 bored out of your mind, you drag your best friend, john, to go on a hike with you on mount ebott. who cares that it's a supposedly haunted mountain! those instagram pictures won't take themselves. until, of course, you fall through a hole, dragging him with you. ...whoops?
| next >
a/n: yes this is an undertale au!! you don't need to know anything about the game to understand what's going on, since i'll be explaining everything anyway <33 literally no one asked for this lmao. this is unedited.
Tumblr media
i. fallen down
There is a hole in the middle of the ground.
It must be almost a meter and a half wide, and thanks to the strange angle it’s at, you don’t see it.
John does though, and he (bless his heart) tries to pull you back to safety, but your foot has already slipped, and instead you two are falling, falling, falling into the abyss.
So much for a relaxing hike up Mount Ebott.
(As you fall, you briefly acknowledge that should you survive this fall, John will hold this over your head for the rest of your life. After ten seconds of falling with no signs of stopping, you come to terms that this is how you two will die. His hand in yours is warm, and you give it a tight squeeze. A shared glance. At least you’re not alone.)
Tumblr media
You wake on a bed of flowers.
For a moment, you blink. Had you fallen asleep on the trail somewhere? You yawn and sit up, looking around at the darkness that surrounds you.
Ah. Yes. You fell into a hole and dragged John with you. He must be thoroughly annoyed—wait. John. Where is he? Fuck, what if he was hurt? What if—
“Fuck.”
You sigh in relief, spotting John just a few inches away from you, almost hidden away by the vibrant golden yellow petals that covered him. Leaning over him, you brush some petals away from his face. “You okay?”
He nods, sitting up, eyes appraising you. “Yeah. You?”
“I’m okay,” you reply, looking around. “Jesus. Are we dead?”
You and John are right in the middle of the only patch of sunlight in the area. This is… a cave, you think. This is what caves look like on the internet. Yes. Mildly, you are freaked out by how dark everything seems to be. You squint as you look up at the hole above the two of you. Had you fallen through that?
“Are we dead?” You repeat faintly. “That’s really high up. How are we not dead?”
“I… don’t know.” John sounds uncertain, and it unsettles you that John—who is always prepared, who always knows what to do, who is the one person you’d bring to an abandoned island if you needed to survive—is uncertain.
You laugh nervously. “What do you mean you don’t know?”
John looks down at his hands and the flowers the two of you have landed on.
“Do you know what these flowers are?” You continue, desperate for literally any answer he could give you. He stares at them for a little longer before settling with:
“I don’t recognize them.”
Okay, that’s it. You practically grab his face with both hands, tilting it from side to side as you look for any sort of injury. John stares at you in confusion, but lets you turn his head around regardless.
“Did you hit your head really hard?” You say worriedly. “We need to see a doctor.”
John gently pulls your hands away, giving them a light squeeze. “I feel fine. But we should get out of… here.”
“I think you have a concussion.”
He rolls his eyes. “I don’t. I know what that feels like, and I’m telling you—I feel fine.”
For a few moments, the two of you just lock eyes with each other, with John still holding your hands. His eyes are a deep brown in this light, and you fall silent, thinking. Thinking about how pretty his eyes are, and how—
You blink.
Practically ripping your hands away from him, you stand up, cheeks aflame. Your lower back complains at the sudden motion, and you try not to grimace at how it aches. John follows suit, and the two of you brush off petals from your clothes.
You look at the ruined flowers mournfully. More than half of them were crushed beneath yours and John’s bodies. They must have broken your fall.
Flowers can’t break a ten-story fall, a voice in your head whispers, but you brush it off. How else could you have survived?
“We should find a way out before the sun sets,” John says, looking around the darkness. You nod, shuddering to think about how dangerous the mountain would be come nighttime. He takes your hand in his and the two of you walk around the edges of the cave, looking for an exit somewhere. The longer the two of you walk in silence, the more your dread rises. What if there’s no exit and you’re trapped here forever? What if no one finds you and you both die here? And it would have been all your fault, you think frantically. You shouldn’t have suggested to hike here; you couldn’t even go up a flight of stairs without feeling breathless!
Just as you’re about to succumb to another wave of panic, John halts all of a sudden, looking straight ahead. You open your mouth to say something, but it quickly disappears at the sight of… two pillars leading to a hallway? Suddenly whatever previous fears you had are trumped by something greater. Why the fuck are there greek-style pillars and a hallway in a cave?
“John,” you whisper, squeezing his hand. He looks on with a grim face, and you’re too fucking scared to even think about how handsome he looks even with so little light. “I don’t feel good about this.”
“I’ll keep you safe,” he says solemnly, looking into your eyes.
Goddamn if that doesn’t make your heart skip a beat. You nod, trusting him as he leads the two of you further into the darkness. The rough dirt beneath you gives way to smooth stone, and your footsteps echo softly. At this point you’re squeezing John’s hand so much you fear you’re rearranging his bones, but he says nothing.
Another set of pillars await you two at the end of the hallway and you really might just throw up from sheer terror. You have never been particularly brave, and if John weren’t here with you, you know you’d be frozen in fear by the flowers still.
John only pauses for a brief moment before marching on with a stiff lip, and you internally groan as he practically pulls you along with him.
The room before you is just as empty as everything else you’ve seen, but there’s another patch of sunlight that puts you at ease slightly. You look up as the two of you walk further in; the hole is still too high to reach, much less climb out of, but at least you aren’t walking around in complete darkness anymore.
There’s another golden flower in the center, like the ones you landed on. This one is bigger, though, and it’s strange that it’s moving so much. You narrow your eyes, about to let go of John’s hand to move closer when the flower turns to you. It fucking turns to you.
You shriek, practically jumping out of your skin as John pushes you back protectively.
The flower has a face. It has a fucking face, and it’s smiling at you. Good fucking god. You’ve never fainted in your life but you genuinely might pass out now.
“Howdy! I’m Flowey. Flowey the flower!” It chirps, and you think you might shit yourself. Or pass out. Fuck, were you dead? Did you and John die from the fall and this is the afterlife? Your knees feel suspiciously weak, and you have to grab onto John’s thick hiking coat to keep yourself from falling to the ground. He holds a hand out to the side, shielding you.
Neither you nor John say anything, leaving the flower—Flowey?—to bounce side to side silently before continuing. (God. It bounces side to side? What the fuck is this, Plants vs. Zombies?)
“Hmm,” it hums. “You’re new to the Underground, aren’tcha?”
Your knees feel just a little bit stronger, and you peek at the flower from behind John. The fact that it’s still smiling is incredibly unsettling. It doesn’t even blink.
“Golly, you must be so confused,” it says. “Someone ought to teach you how things work around here!”
“I think we’ll pass,” John says carefully. “Where’s the exit?”
Flowey’s eye twitches. “So eager to leave?”
John says nothing.
“At least let me show her how to gain some LV,” Flowey says cheerfully, looking right at you. You swallow thickly, a wave of dread washing over you. “Stars know that you have more than enough,” it adds under its breath, side eyeing John.
John narrows his eyes. “LV?”
“Why, LOVE of course!” Flowey grins. “She has so little of it, and you have so much.”
“I am a hater.” You shrug, looking at John, at which he rolls his eyes. “How would I go about gaining some LOVE, anyway?”
“It’s simple,” Flowey says sagely. “Just stand still.”
A curling vine appears from the soil and you flinch, stepping closer to John. You feel a sudden pulling motion in your chest, and you whimper softly. This feels wrong. “Hey, maybe we should—”
Your words are cut off when your vision darkens, and all of a sudden there is a glowing green heart floating in front of you. A deep sense of wrongness floods your being, as if you’re not supposed to see this. Your knees feel weak, and you feel cold all of a sudden.
“What the fuck?” You mumble, looking up. Gone is the room you were in, and the three of you are in the middle of a black void. “What the fuck.”
John seems to be faring much worse. He has a grim expression on his face as he looks around, a deep red, almost maroon heart floating before him.
Flowey remains the same before the two of you. “See that heart in front of you? That’s your soul, the very culmination of your being.”
“The Catholics were right?” You whisper to John.
“Souls are not an exclusively Catholic notion,” John replies quietly, still looking at Flowey warily.
“Ahem.” Flowey has a mildly annoyed expression on his face. “As I was saying, that heart is your soul. It starts off weak, but it can get strong if you gain a lot of LOVE.”
A white oblong flickers into existence before the two of you, roughly the size of your hand. It spins around in place, and you share a look with John.
“I’ll share this… friendliness pellet with you, since you have so little LOVE.” Flowey explains, looking at you directly. “Just stay still, and let it come to you!”
The pellet flies towards you, and at the last possible moment, you side-step it, watching as it flies past you. Something felt off here, and you weren’t sure if you wanted to trust a talking flower.
“Hey, it missed!” Flowey smiles, a strain of annoyance in its tone. “Here, let me give you another one.”
“No thanks,” you laugh nervously, avoiding another pellet. John moves before you, blocking you from Flowey’s view. Because of this, you miss how Flowey’s expression drops completely, a sinister expression creeping up on its face. John stiffens before you, his hand moving closer to his hip until he remembers that he’s unarmed.
“Fine. We can do this the hard way,” Flowey says, the cheerfulness disappearing from its voice. A circle of pellets materialize around the two of you, and John steps closer to you. You’re frozen in place by some invisible force, and you can only watch as the pellets move closer.
“In this world, it’s kill or be killed,” Flowey snarls, looking into John’s eyes. “But you already know that, don’t you?”
“Fuck off, you creepy flower!” You snap, peering from behind John. The pellets move ever closer, and you brace for impact when—
“You miserable creature!” A feminine voice calls out. A fireball appears just a few feet away from you, and Flowey looks at it in terror before disappearing into the ground.
The black void fades away, revealing the room you were in. A… goat? A lady? A goat lady stands before you, a kind expression on her face. Her long fluffy ears flop by the side of her face, and the rich purple of her dress contrasts starkly against her white fur. You would be inclined to call her soft and cute and adorable if she wasn’t almost seven feet tall.
“Greetings, young ones. I am Toriel,” she smiles, her voice regal. “I am the Caretaker of the Ruins. I walk through here everyday in case someone has fallen down.”
You hesitantly introduce yourself, and John follows suit.
“Well, I am glad to meet the both of you,” she says gently. “You are the first humans to fall down here in a long time. Come, I will guide you to the catacombs.”
She turns from the two of you and begins to walk away. You and John share another look, deciding to follow her when something clicks in your mind.
“You’re a monster.” You call out, and Toriel stops in her tracks.
She faces you with a surprised smile. “Why yes, my child.”
“You’re supposed to be a myth,” you say incredulously. “How are you real?”
“I just am,” Toriel chuckles. “I am unsurprised that we have been reduced to mere myths, however. It has been a very long time.”
John looks towards you curiously, and you explain. “There’s an old story that was told to me by my aunt. That there are monsters in Mount Ebott.”
Toriel only nods.
“Those who climb Mount Ebott never return,” you say faintly. “Because they fell here.”
John reaches for your hand, squeezing it assuringly. Toriel walks ahead, leaving the two of you to follow after her.
“I’m so sorry,” you whisper, but John only shakes his head.
“I’ll get you home,” John says quietly, walking forward, pulling you with him. “We’ll figure this out.”

Idea for a UT AU: (Please tell me if this is already an au I will read/watch the SHIT out of it)
Basically, the premise is that Frisk jumps into Mt. Ebott and instead of encountering the regular stuff that is the entirety of undertale, they go into a fucking coma from the fall. The ‘underground’ in this is basically a place similar to purgatory. If you die there, you die in real life and are stuck there and if you survive and escape the underground, you end up waking up, alive and in a hospital from falling into a fucking hole on a mountain. The underground’s nature changes with each person in it, changing with their imaginations, wants, fears, etc. One example being that Chara basically shaped the underground into a whole fantasy world of monsters (the implication of fantasy stuff being an escape from the world for them when they were alive), giving them an actually loving family for once, but it gets botched when everything gets affected by a growing fear of ruining everything and a hate for humanity driven by both the fantasy setting of monsters and shit and the in real life experience of being with abusive people, which manifests into (in this au at least) Chara eating buttercups to poison themself, putting the same buttercups in Asgore’s tea so that Toriel would be busy while Chara made Asriel absorb their soul (Chara poisoning themself so that Asriel could absorb their soul counted as ‘dying’, which made them stuck there as a ghost because of beliefs they had where you become a ghost after death if you still have business to do) and cross the barrier. Of course, the plan was to get 7 human souls to break the barrier, but Asriel didn’t want to, leading to his death and Chara becoming a ghost. Of course, Chara’s desire to leave a legacy made their story popular in the underground. Everything also affects real life too, Chara falls, is unconscious from the fall, someone on the mountain (prolly their brother) finds them and carries them out of the underground (representative of Asriel carrying their body out from the underground as well) to get them to a hospital, of course, they die in the hospital/when Asriel returns. The underground gets more and more fleshed out with each human, even if unintentionally (patience making the ruins a safe place to remind him of his home, bravery making outside the ruins more dangerous because of assumptions and regressed fear, integrity’s logic of ‘actions have consequences’ not only fueling their genocide and certain monsters’ attitude toward the surface but also causing their downfall, perseverance applying logic and science to everything and possibly finally making the concept of the ‘core’, kindness fleshing out the perspectives of people because of how often they put themself in other people’s shoes, and justice also altering monsterkind’s view on humanit and the surface, and also possibly creating the Dunes). I might flesh out Frisk’s journey later but just know that everyone they meet is representative of someone they knew pre-Ebott (this applies to other humans too).
Idk if this is good idea or not
might call this warpedtale or something idk what the title should be
I hope I worded everything right (autocorrect prolly screwed me over on some parts)

Ghost Hunting With Skeletons by oblivionseight (Not Rated, Incomplete)
You're an engineer who works for Ebott's best research facility in one of the labs; your lifelong dream after finding a journal on Mount Ebott when you were a kid. When you aren't in the lab being smart, you're gathering materials at the abandoned doll factory for the machine you're trying to build. But one night, you meet a skeleton at the factory. Naturally, you lie about why you're there and say you're there to hunt ghosts. You befriend him and try to find a way to gather the materials while keeping up with that lie. But those lies catch up to you when you start to meet all the other skeletons. Edit: As of Chapter 29, all chapters have been edited and fixed slightly!
Give you my best shot by RoseintheStars457 (Teen And Up, Incomplete)
Your lease was up, and you decided to check out an ad in the paper. Little did you know it would lead you to a house full of skeletons, introducing you to a bunch of new friends (and possibly more) and setting off plenty of antics. Now if only you could get those weird dreams to stop...
Despite Everything, You're Only Human by UndynesSpear (Explicit, Incomplete)
“hey there, sweetheart, names red, nice to meet ya.” He took a lock of your hair in his slightly clawed hand and brought it to his nose, his eyes slid shut softly as he inhaled. You smelled like mint, peaches, human alcohol, and oh. Whats this? New chapter?!
Undercover Deity: Become Human by RainaChaeri (Teen And Up, Incomplete)
What happens when a deity gets tangled up with a bunch of skeletons? Athena was a goddess who just wanted to learn the ways of the earth more intimately than the way she had always known it to be, and after millions of begging and pleading (not really) to her “Mother” and “Father", they had finally folded and granted her a once in a very long lifetime opportunity to live amongst the beings on earth disguised as a human. So, this was it! Finally! A chance for her to learn everything there was to know about the earth from scratch! At least, that’s what she remembered the goal was. Oh, well. Join her as she learns the way of the earth, and maybe even earn friends along the way! Weirdly enough, the majority of them were skeletons. [written in third person]
Daughter of Death by Teutonic_lisp (Teen And Up, Incomplete)
(TOLD IN YOU/YOUR) A reaper, a few gods, and a bunch of skeletons. The life of a reaper wasn’t boring to her, everyday she would gather souls and lead them into eternal rest, and repeat. She watched creatures and Humans die, easily surpassing their lives and meeting once again in the underworld - or when she is evaluating their lives. One day, Y/N was told she was moving areas. A whole new continent in the world, in a city known as Ebott, where monsters had emerged from the mountain nearly five years ago. What happens when a workaholic with stubbornness to boot moves in the neighborhood, with skeletons causing havoc in her life? And, uh, well.. let’s say she isn’t the easiest person to get along with. *updated story description*
Frankenstein's Skeleton by lostcrown (Mature, Incomplete)
You were human once. Or, so was what the doctors told you. You wake to the world in a hospital bed with absolutely no memories about yourself and a body that is yours, but also not. Not your original, that is. While the authorities try to uncover what happened to you, the only survivor, you are left with next to nothing but the possibility to rebuild your life from scratch as a skeleton monster with a human soul. To ensure your safety while your unknown perpetrators are being hunted down, you are placed within a home containing an almost worrying amount of skeletons with varying personalities. Naturally, your life bursts into color and chaos as you try to navigate your days with your new roommates, but you seem to handle it well enough. Even if there are too many secrets lurking about. You wonder constantly – who are you?
Making A Monster by absurdmagewrites (Explicit, Incomplete)
Sometimes life throws you a curveball. For you, your curveball was going to bed looking like a human, and waking up looking like a monster. A skeleton monster to be precise. With the barrier breaking, a large surge of magic descended on the town you live in, and transformed you overnight. Unsure what to do with you, and the others changed, you're ushered into a facility until a monster with similar magic can take you to teach you how to wield the now uncontrollable magic you've been given. After waiting in this place for four years, you'd given up hope that anyone would ever want to take you. What a surprise for you when you find out that someone does. A lot of someones.
Your Friendly-Neighborhood Witch by earthvibes (Not Rated, Incomplete)
"so how did you two meet?" Sans, the laid-back leader of the skelebros group asked, his grin relaxed as he leaned over the kitchen table and sipped on his morning coffee. "Oh, uh..." You rubbed your chin and tried to play it cool. "Well, it was late last night, and I thought I was looking for a dead body in the abandoned woods, so you can imagine my surprise when I found out he wasn't my guy." "And then I punched her," Stretch replied, handing you a plate full of buttery pancakes. "Yeah," you hummed, oblivious to the sudden silence around you. "In the face, too." Tldr: that time stretch brings home a mage and doesn't realize it
Skeleton leaf by zeo_nulla (Mature, Incomplete)
You did not remember your old life, but you knew certain things like muscle memory, cooking, cleaning, gardening. Those came easily..and somehow despite everything your head was filled with the knowledge of plants, how could someone forget their name but remember the name and meaning of every flower? You sighed, baffled and threw a green cowl on over your cream coloured dress, breathing in the fresh forest air. You are a skeleton and are just trying to get by, you make some friends along the way but your past has a way of coming back to haunt you..... Even if you don't remember it.
Six Skeletons and The Waitress by Teutonic_lisp (Mature, Incomplete)
A picture perfect family hides the fact that your life is filled with manipulation and abuse. When you move away after high school, you encounter more than one skeleton monster that often tests your anxieties. Hey...why are they acting like that? *updated description
Six Skeletons, One Store Clerk by mccloudydayz (Teen And Up, Incomplete)
It was the only job you could grab. Along with the apartment-life blues, and your college education still ahead of you, could your setting be any more typical? Maybe...if some of your regulars hadn't emerged from several feet underground a few years ago. But, darn it, you chose this particular store for a reason, and you were going to show these fascinating new faces in and out your door with a smile that (surprisingly) has nothing to do with the fact that you were getting paid for it. Good thing, too, because you might get to make some bone-ified new friends in the process. Inspired by several AO3 users (listed in the first chapter notes)

Closed Starter For @five-or-so-missing-children
(- This is a closed starter for @five-or-so-missing-children -)
This all started like any other day in Kelly's life, or rather, Post-Life given the fact she died hundreds of years in the past.
She was walking around The Vast Ocean, more specifically a secluded part of the save system that housed a extremely beautiful site, a whirlpool of sorts, one that didn't seem to ever stop or even slow down, as she remember it being active even back when she still had a living body.
It was quite the hidden gem for sure, a place she remember visiting with her friends back before everything fell apart. It had a lot of colorful crystals embedded on the walls and the whirlpool itself was quite beautiful to look at...at a distance that is.
She knew the dangers it posed, hell it was something Toriel told her repeatedly, to the point of grounding her if she ever found out she went there back in the day.
But now, well, she didn't exactly need to answer to anyone, she was free to explore the underground as she wished, not like she was afraid of dying anyways, she experienced that before and is technically experiencing it right now.
She shyly sat at the edge of the edges that separated the beautiful phenomenon from the rest of the cave, her robot legs gently touching the streams as they all merged at the center, she wasn't afraid of water as the body was very much water proof, something she explicitly demanded to be done while it was being built. It was mesmerizing, also hypnotic in a way.
Suddenly, however, the ground under her gave in, catching the princess by surprise and causing her to fall into the water. Try as she could, she was unable to fight back against the currents, while her body wasn't going to be damaged by water, it wasn't exactly made for swimming, having little mobility in even calm waters.
She tried to scream for help but the rushing water muffled her voice, she tried contacting her friends though her robot body and, while she did manage to ask for help, by the time the message came through she has already sunk in the eye of the whirlpool. Luckily she didn't need to breathe but, even so it was still a very panic inducing experience.
Time after that was muddled, she could tell she was falling for much longer than expected, it felt like hours went by and she was still being pushed by the underwater currents, how deep even was this lake?!
Eventually, her body had to turn on its emergencies measures and shut down as to not let her soul be harmed, cause her to effectively black out.
Eventually she did wake up, at first she flayed around and shrieked, thinking she was still in the water, but quickly realized she was on land instead, inside a weird...thing? It was like a 2 meter squared container filled with colorful plastic balls filled with air.
She managed to sit down in the middle of this strange pit, her body still containing water inside of itself, though not enough to really cause any damages, at worst it was just a matter of waiting for it to evaporate, but it was still a pain since it made her heavier to move, making her exceptionally well tuned body to feel sluggish for the first time in her post-life.
Her sensors finally managed to calibrate themselves, her visors lighting up like two bright green flashlights, illuminating the darkness of...whatever this place was.
She looked around, trying to get her bearings straight and formulate a plan on what to do. She tried contacting the doctor and his son but to no avail, somehow she was out of signal, strange, she was sure the doctor's signal could cover the whole mount ebott and then some, just...where was she?
She carefully got out of the strange fit, looking at the strange decorations in the walls, they featured a bear, a bunny, a fox and a chicken, though they looked much more like monsters than their counterparts she remembered from the surface.
Eventually she noticed some kinda...theater stage at the center of this strange room, one with 3...robots? maybe? they didn't look human though, if anything they were way more monster life. Now that she thought about it, they looked like the beings in the posters and decorations all around the room.
She carefully approached them, her sensors strangely malfunctioning when around the creatures, making her even more nervous.
"...h-hello?" She meekly spoke, her voice still not being 100% given what happened to her today, causing it to sound way more robotic than she had hoped.

Could you tell me about your OCs? (The Sanses) I want to know more about them and your Dreamtale redesigns.
Of course, I would be delighted to!
For starters my oc (the sans) name is Zyora, his story is a bit complicated but in short, he was alive before the monsters were trapped underground and due to some events he ended up being left on the surface since he was deemed deceased because he went missing during the war just for years later to wake up and fall down Mount ebott while he was trying to figure out where everyone specifically his brother go.
There's a lot of details I left out but I wanted to make sure it was clear instead if confusing 😭.
My Dreamtale redesigns are from when I got really bored I'm school once and decided to mess around and have fun and ended up coming up with the redesigns They are not really different from the originals but instead of positivity and negativity they are the guardian of the sun and moon, the townspeople wanted the day to be longer but it was impossible since sun dream and moon nightmare have no control over the actual moon and sun themselves but the townspeople thought it was because of moon nightmare so after a long while and a lot of events when dream wasn't around they decided to throw moon nightmare into the river for forever but after decades he resurfaced as corrupted moon nightmare (like post apple incident in the original Dreamtale) by the help of the moon after I helped the tides be more chaotic than normal and giving moon nightmare another chance at living but not as himself.
I HOPE I WAS ABLE TO EXPLAIN PROPERLY<3

The creation of fanfic adds layers to this.
the thing about tragic meta narratives where the self-aware character(s) look at the audience whose enjoyment of and returning to this story makes them complicit in the suffering and beg, plead for those voiceless, faceless spectators to do something, to stop the inevitable, to intervene and somehow change fate, not understanding how a person could just sit there and watch this happen, is that…
the worlds these characters exist in presumably have fiction too, right? books and plays and such.
so they already have an answer to the question. we (excepting people with hyper-empathy and such) are able to passively observe, detached and distant, because it’s a story.
all this to say: give me tragic self-aware protags who are also avid consumers - creators, even - of fiction. who, after their initial overwhelmed, bewildered angsting at the audience, realize the truth, and unlock a new level of angst…
…because they’ve been in the audience’s position, and they would (and have) react(ed) the same way. which is to say: by doing nothing at all.

In today's update, the rebuilding and repair process continues, and Dr. Aster encounters some trouble counting to one. (That joke is funnier the more you know about mathematics.)

I'm gonna infodump because I think I just cracked undertale.
So first of all the thing that got me into this rabbithole was the realization that, throughout undertale it is insisted to you over and over again that the only way out of the underground is to absorb a monster soul (presumably has to be a boss monster because a normal one cant exist outside of its body long enough to absorb) and yet by the end of the neutral route (the only route you leave with the barrier still up) the only boss monster soul you can absorb has been destroyed by flowey and yet you just kinda leave anyways, even answering a phone call afterwards which implies you did indeed make it out.
So my theory is that you are controlling the amalgam soul of Chara and Asriel inhabiting the body of a dead child who threw themself into mount ebott and landed on Chara's grave.
I think that the genocide route is you leaning into Chara's side of the soul (a scared and hurt child who was attacked by humans and now is just waking up and being immediately accosted by a talking flower monster who tells them its kill or be killed) and the pacifist route is you leaning into Asriels side of the soul. I believe this is represented as separation vs harmony. In the pacifist route the voices of chara and asriel blend together, it is impossible to tell who is narrating when because they're in harmony. This is overall represented by 'Its you' at the beginning, and then at the end that changing to 'its me'. In the genocide route Chara speaks distinctly, they have red text vs asriel's white text. They speak of things that only they know. Namely being in the coffin (Its as comfortable as it looks).
Then at the end of the pacifist route they're no longer 'chara' they're 'frisk', no longer two entities, but one. It explains 'the true name' it gives a double meaning to frisks they/them pronouns. Hell it could even hint towards what 'I'm with you in the dark' could mean.
I would love to know if anyone can think of anything that contradicts this.

-History of Subtertale:
Years ago...Humans and Monsters reigned together and peacefully on the surface.
(The surface/The Human Kingdom: Cities of the Humans: **Ketteiville**, **Shymattiville** and **Jasuttisuville**. The City of the Monsters: **Peyshenville**).
However, everything changed when a radical group of humans who lived in **Shymattiville**, began to spread hatred and fear towards monsters, triggering a devastating war.
The war ended with the overwhelming victory of the humans, the monsters were driven from the surface and exiled in the underground, where they were enclosed by an impenetrable magical barrier imposed by the humans.
Years later, Mount Ebott became a forbidden and mysterious place where legends say that anyone who dares to climb Mount Ebott never returns.
The story of Subtertale begins when the main character, Lyra, a curious and brave girl who lived in **Ketteiville**, in the year 201X, after climbed the Mount Ebott, the place where 6 humans had disappeared, falls into an abyss and wakes up in the Ruins, inside the underground.
(Chara lives in Jasuttisuville. All 6 human souls live in Ketteiville).
Lyra finds herself in an unknown world, full of strange and dangerous monsters, but also full of friendship and hope.
Guided by her determination, Lyra embarks on an epic journey through the dark passages of the underground, encountering memorable characters such as Sans, a lazy but cunning skeleton; Toriel, a former queen of the Underground and maternal monster who cares for the lost in the Ruins; and Undyne, a brave fish warrior and leader of the royal guard who seeks freedom for her people.
As Lyra progresses, she faces difficult decisions that will test her morality and empathy.
Can Lyra find a way to break the barrier and free the monsters underground? Or will she succumb to the dark forces that seek to keep the monsters trapped underground forever?
(The human souls in Subtertale are the same as the human souls of Undertale.
The real names of the human souls are:
Chara and Lyra (Determination)
Fátima (Bravery)
Edward (Kindness)
Natalia (Perseverance)
Brice (Justice)
Rocío (Integrity)
Marta (Patience)

Pacifist Route:
Description: Lyra always avoids combat and seeks to resolve conflicts peacefully. She tries to make friends and find solutions that don't involve violence.
Pacifist Final Boss: Asriel Dreemurr, a powerful being who represents an emotional and moral challenge to Lyra. The battle against Asriel Dreemurr is a moving experience that tests Lyra's determination and compassion.
In the Pacifist route the monsters are released from the Underground.
-After the Pacifist route Lyra gives part of her soul to Chara so that he can come back to life.
Also...Lyra gave part of her determination to Flowey to bring Asriel back to life.
I/Adley brought back the human souls except integrity. Currently the human souls, Lyra, Chara and Asriel live with Toriel and Asgore in house in Ketteiville.
-After the pacifist, all the monsters went to live in Peyshenville...except Sans, Papyrus, Mettaton, Toriel, Asgore, Alphys, Undyne and Napstablook who went to live in Ketteiville with Chara and Lyra.
-Also...after this route...Sans, Chara and Lyra explain to all their friends: Toriel, Asgore, Papyrus, Mettaton, Flowey, Alphys, Undyne, Grillby and Napstablook...that the multiverse and the aus exist and they also explain that Kamydley, their sister and Rocío's true identity exist.
The general reaction of Lyra and Chara's friends, the monsters, upon hearing Sans, Chara, and Lyra's explanation of the existence of AUs and the multiverse, as well as the history of Kamydxiel, Kamydley, and Rocío, is one of shock and confusion.
All of them gaping at the revelation that there are alternate realities and that they have been created by divine forces.
All of them feel a glimmer of hope upon learning that Rocío, despite her origins, is good and seeks to do good, which resonates with their desire to live in peace again.
The idea that their lives and the history they know are just one part of a vast multiverse is overwhelming to them, but also intriguing, prompting them to consider exploring and understanding more about their place in this new landscape.
In the end, a feeling of unity and determination begins to emerge between them as they realize that their struggle for peace and acceptance on the surface might be connected to something much bigger than they had imagined.
Neutral Route:
Description: Lyra makes decisions that are not necessarily peaceful but not completely violent either. Her actions can oscillate between compassion and confrontation, without clearly leaning towards peace or violence.
Neutral Final Bosses: Asgore and Omega Flowey, Omega Flowey is a distorted and terrifying form of Flowey. This battle is chaotic and challenging, with Omega Flowey displaying a series of surprising transformations and attacks.
In the Neutral route Lyra has only two options:
First option: Stay with the monsters underground forever and find a way to break the barrier with the help of the monsters.
Second option: Use Asgore's soul and the 6 human souls to break the barrier and leave the Underground and never return to the underground, leaving the monsters trapped in the underground forever.
Genocidal Route:
Description: Lyra chooses to confront and kill all the monsters in the Underground, showing no compassion or empathy.
Final boss: Sans, a powerful and cunning character who faces Lyra as the last defender of the underground. The battle against Sans is known for its extreme difficulty and emotional impact, representing the grim climax of the genocidal route.
The end of the Genocide route is the same as the end of the Genocide route in Undertale.

Here’s a drawing I spent a little less time on cause I wanted it out quicker to explain Lang’s lore. Btw does anyone have tips for drawing hands.
Undertale gold au and Rover belong to @s0ckh3adstudios and knowing what she’s written beforehand helps in context for this story.
Also Tw for neglect, bullying, and violence that is at least sort of talked about.
Enjoy my word babbles!
Lang only recently moved into the town near Mt Ebott and they were really lonely and isolated. Their parents were pretty negligent of them and they had a hard time speaking and communicating with others. (I’m trying to write they have aphasia or some other type of disability, need to do more research though)
The only way Lang could talk to others was through their notebooks but because of language barriers and their tendency to scare other kids off little progress was made. So when they ran to the mountain to get away from bullies, Lang decided to go higher and talk to the monsters they had read about in books.
They reached the top and fell down, and from there Lang tried to mess around with the meta of Undertale. They tried to give themselves the ability to create dialogue boxes and talk the way monsters do, through written sentences in video games. Due to their lack of determination or possibly Tores influence however, they were unable to create a perfect box.
So when they tried using ACTS to talk, Lang’s words were extremely messy and jumbled and actively scared monsters away in the process. Feeling rejected by both humans and monsters Lang wanted to leave.
But as they stumbled through the darkness of the ruins to the snowy area, their anger began to rise as more monsters fled from them. They actively barked and screamed tand eventually they tried climbing a tree with their perseverance powers in the hope of reaching the underground ceiling.
They fell down for the second time that day and survived only with their invincibility. When they awoke their notebook was gone and Lang was pissed.
Racing through the snow, their SOUL beat with purple and actively created a ton of damage in their wake. Lang’s chase eventually lead them to Snowdin where the group of monsters who stole Lang’s notebook had given it to Rover.
Lang lunged forward, knocking out Axis for a couple seconds and scaring off the monsters. In their fury they prepared to attack Rover but only found the monsters apologetic expression.
This snapped them out of their rage and Lang finally tried saying what was on their mind- tried apologizing. But it was too late as adult monsters came to see a human had entered their home. So Lang grabbed their notebook and Rover’s hat by accident and made a break for it.
They ran to waterfall where they were cornered by Axis, but quickly beat them with raw anguish and threw the robot over a waterfall. Lang then only stumbled further ahead until they reached a dead end.
Feeling nothing but guilt for their actions, Lang chose to write one last message in their notebook before they were cornered by Dalv. One lightning strike was enough and Lang didn’t fight back. They let it happen, let themselves rest.
(Until Dalv and Chujin revived Lang and ended up pissing them off ten times more)
Anyway, tell me anything about the lore I’ve written since there is a possibility it might change. If you have any questions just ask in notes too.
Random notes!
-Lang talks in a weird way, since they use ACTS and dialogue boxes. They don’t open their mouth and instead sentences from them look like this
“Lang asks why monsters are underground”
“Lang agrees to the plan ”
“Lang explains that they are tired of people’s shit”
-Lang is Chinese and they also know English, sign language, morse code, and wing dings for shits and giggles.
-Lang is a very blunt kid, but they are genuinely polite and caring to those around them. Their emotions just tend to get the better of them though.
-They love comic books and comic strips, and they specifically talk just about them

Aftertale: a summary.
It began here in the universe whose code designates the timeframe spanning Frisk's tour inside Mt. Ebott "UNDERTALE." In [no mercy] timelines, Sans is the last to be killed before Frisk reaches LV20 and is made contact with from beyond the grave by the late royal adoptee. The first fallen human, Chara, uses Frisk's power to delete the entire timeloop and hijacks their body when the timeline reboots.
"Aftertale" refers to the timeloop that began its deviation from "Undertale" after Sans, in a last-ditch effort to outlast the human in a fight, made one more preparation and, taking Papyrus' scarf with him for emotional support... injected himself with Determination.
...
Sans was split.
Somewhere in the void around reality, Determined beings like Frisk can access a "SAVE" to Reload (loop time from their last SAVE point) or Reset (loop time from their first SAVE point).
After Sans was struck down in this timeline, he'd managed to send himself to the SAVE screen– where Frisk themself would be banished after Chara took their body. Paused at his final moments, one of Sans' eyesockets had already begun to melt, hidden behind glitch artifacts, much of his ribcage was missing, and his "eye" in the other socket lost its yellow, the lower half permanently reddened by the DT that was working to keep him alive.
The hard Reset happened, but this Sans in the SAVE screen was exempt... mostly. When he escaped to the void, he was dying. He only had about a ninth of his SOUL left when the Reset took effect, and the Sans in the rebooted timeline was missing that fragment from his SOUL as if they'd broken off from each other.
The Sans in the timeline started waking up with memories of the previous loop, catching "Frisk's" attention as they started playing out different scenarios. The Determined Sans, still able to watch the timeloop as it continued to deviate from Undertale but unable to use the SAVE screen despite reaching it, started making contact with his other self between Reloads, addressing himself as Geno to the Sans still in the timeline out of survivor's guilt.
Geno, watching the timeline from the void, used these moments to plead with Sans to help him take Chara into the SAVE screen and, rather than return control to Frisk, attack them before they could use it and keep them both hostage. His goal was to stop the cycle of muders by ending the timeline forever. Sans never agreed.
Geno brought Sans again after he'd stolen back Papyrus' scarf from "Frisk" when he had a breakdown and had the idea to share the worse of his memories with Sans. It didn't persuade him to help Geno with his plan, but it did finally push Sans into a breaking down himself in front of Papyrus, causing them to have a talk they hadn't had before and helping Sans realize what isolating himself does to him... and to Geno.
Sans surprised Chara at the Ruins door and tricked Geno into taking them and Papyrus into the SAVE screen. Geno, caught off-guard, started a fight with Sans, who still had Chara with him, but Frisk, who'd been kept in a bone cage since warning this timeline's Sans not to trust Geno, called Papyrus over to break them out. Frisk was given the chance to help Papyrus intercept the scene, wearing down Geno's resolve to fight Sans for Chara, and the battle diffused as Papyrus consoled him.
...The two were left to talk while Sans had a talk with Frisk and Chara. Chara was still vengeful toward monsterkind for the fates of the other six SOULs, but eventually surrendered Frisk's body and passed on. Frisk made a promise that their next Resets would be the last. And finally, Geno conceded to try Sans' way this time, but restated that he would do things his own way if/when it didn't work.
Frisk went back to complete one more [true pacifist] timeline, this time with Sans and Papyrus remembering the SAVE screen events and meeting them together outside the exit from Home's ruins while Geno watched. Warily hopeful, he decided the shadow of Dr. W.D. Gaster overstayed his welcome, forcefully turning down his offer to assimilate into the dark of the void but offering that perhaps he could visit the scientist some other time.
Once back outside of Mt. Ebott, Frisk came back to the SAVE screen with Sans and Papyrus to maximize Geno's HP with a butterscotch-cinnamon pie as he exited. It worked, restoring most of the melted half of his skull apart from a "scarred" eyesocket, and he was almost immediately given a warm welcome by Toriel, Undyne, and...
...
...and me.
Alphys.
