Last EB of the year musings

Top Moments of the Year on Ear Biscuits, it was totally expected that the videos would be one of them, but it wasn't just one, it was the top one. This wasn't surprising either but as soon as Link said his second most significant moment (sending Lincoln to college) was technically the second, I was more and more convinced that the placements (including random roleplay with Jessie being second) were mostly strategic and it was strategic that the scripted videos were on top. Of course, Rhett said he would be offended if Link didn't put the videos on his list or even as the first place but I am not totally buying it wasn't well discussed between them beforehand that this would be their strategic or genuine (or both) top moment of the year. It was also a nice throwback to the previous EB where they introduced the concept of the scripted series because Link stressed again that those videos were linked to their personhood and their personal development and opportunity. Furthermore, Link clarified that apart from the superficial comedy, the videos are meant to stir us emotionally and MENTALLY and I was so relieved when he said this.

I am only a litte antsy that the videos won't be a standard monthly thing like they were in 2023, I am going to get a withdrawal syndrome from that :( but I understand that they believe watching the videos in succession without leaving so much time in between might enable them to drive the point home more effectively. I am also reeeeaaaally curious about the name they will give the series. Link implied there is a unifying concept / theme and now that it is known (?) the project needs a name (omg).

I feel like also a question I had all this time was answered when Rhett said the team that works with them for the videos is "very small". That... makes so much sense, eventually.

All that being said, I felt like whatever Rhett said in his second place was a little disagreeing with the follow-up, albeit sweet. Link was totally cool throughout, except in the end when in typical Link fashion

I couldn't exactly understand what Link was conveying here but at least it helped bring back some normalcy to the RandL dynamic lol

The Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4 is a mid-engine sports car, designed and developed in Germany by the Volkswagen Group and Bugatti and manufactured in Molsheim, France, by French automobile manufacturer Bugatti. It was named after the racing driver Pierre Veyron.

The original version has a top speed of 407 km/h (253 mph). It was named the 2000s Car of the Decade by the BBC television programme Top Gear. The standard Veyron also won Top Gear's Best Car Driven All Year award in 2005.

The Super Sport version of the Veyron is one of the fastest street-legal production cars in the world, with a top speed of 431.072 km/h (267.856 mph). The Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse was the fastest roadster in the world, reaching an averaged top speed of 408.84 km/h (254.04 mph) in a test on 6 April 2013.

The Veyron's chief designer was Hartmut Warkuß, with the exterior being designed by Jozef Kabaň of Volkswagen. Much of the engineering work was conducted under the guidance of chief technical officer Wolfgang Schreiber. The Veyron includes a sound system designed and built by Burmester Audiosysteme.

Several special variants have been produced. In December 2010, Bugatti began offering prospective buyers the ability to customise exterior and interior colours by using the Veyron 16.4 Configurator application on the marque's official website. The Bugatti Veyron was discontinued in late 2014, but special edition models continued to be produced until 2015.

Someone I know irl: Does your danny denial fic have a scene in it where danny forgets what form he's in and tells someone, straightfaced, as a ghost, that ghosts don't exist?

Me: Damn. I have to write that now.

Danny woke up with one hell of a headache.

He groaned, reaching up to rub his forehead. It was hard to think, and his eyes didn’t seem to be working right. Danny closed his eyes, and sighed in relief at the immediate ebbing of that hellish headache.

Something jammed in his ribs. Hard. “Answer my question. Why are you doing this?”

Danny futilely pushed at the thing pinning him down - a... stick? - earning himself another jab. “Whazz-” Wow, okay, he sounded drunk. What had happened? “Whatz goin’ on...?”

“Don’t pretend with me, ghost. What were you doing?”

That was Valerie. But not with the exasperation of Danny Fenton’s friend, nor the camaraderie of the Red Huntress with Phantom. This Valerie was angry. Like she was talking to a ghost who was hurting people. But she was clearly talking to Danny, almost like...

Like she thought Danny was possessed. Danny let himself relax, even daring to open his eyes a second before the headache reminded him how much of a bad idea that was. Since he wasn’t possessed, all Danny had to do was say something that proved he was, indeed, Danny Fenton.

“No... ghostz...”

That got Valerie sounding confused, at least. “What?”

“Ghostz don’... don’ ex- exist.”

The pressure was alleviated as the bat was pulled away from Danny’s sternum. Danny felt a brief moment of relief.

The relief was cut off as the bat collided with his skull, for the seventh time that day. Danny’s already-concussed brain did not appreciate the treatment, and went on strike. Again.

Tammy slowly lets her eyes move over to meet yours.  Looking unimpressed that you dare ask such a question. As if worrying about her was a mild irritation, and even your small smile doesn’t smooth things over. “You keep asking me that,” Tammy states plainly. “Why?”

You give a small shrug, trying to look innocent in the face of Tammy’s questioning. “No reason. Just wondering,” you answer her.

She hums, obviously not believing you. “Just wondering,” Tammy repeats. “Are you cold? Is that it? Is this your annoying way of telling me that you wanna go home?”

“No, I don’t want to go home.”

“Then what-”

“Maybe I’m just a little cold,” you tell her. A small lie - you aren’t very cold. It was chilly this morning before the sun came out. And yeah, if the wind blows, you end up pulling your coat a little tighter. But certainly not cold enough to complain about.

Regardless, it’s an excuse. A way in. You step closer to Tammy, trying not to smile but it kinda fails. She watches you carefully. “Maybe if we huddled for warmth...”

“That is so lame,” Tammy cuts in. Her head swivels, staring straight ahead and away from you.

Her reaction only prompts you closer. Outright grinning as you press against her back, cheek resting against her shoulder, and delighting in the way Tammy presses back even if she doesn’t know it.

“I’m much warmer now,” you mumble, knowing she can hear you. Tammy huffs, and you’re silent for a moment before speaking up again. “But my hands are still kinda cold. I bet your pockets are nice and warm...”

“You’re a parasite.”

“A cold parasite.”

Tammy snorts, but you recognize it as a good-humored one. The sound of it makes you smile, and slowly, your hands circle around her waist. Following the seam of her coat until reaching her front pockets. And without warning, your hands delve down into them. Tammy sighs, but she doesn’t do anything to pull your hands free.

Though, you were right about one thing - her pockets were definitely warm. The sharp, numb feeling that had begun to creep into your digits was slowly ebbing away. You let out a small, contented hum against Tammy’s shoulder.

And you don’t miss the way she leans back against you, hands coming to circle around your wrists, and the fact that Tammy has stopped calling you a parasite.

just a little summary of 4 years of ‘omg do we really still have to deal with this guy???’ lol. But I agree that the red/liz relationship is difficult and complex… and “the retcon” as the fandom calls it is probably not the final answer. And the faked death was a big, awkward, bordering on jump-the-shark incident that’s hard to reconcile.

My thoughts: First, complete hypocrisy. Tom gets a pass but Red is the reason for every bad thing that ever happened to her? Except, he saved her from the fire, got her settled with a good man to raise her (her beloved Sam) and runs to her side every time she needs him. Actions speaking louder than words. Liz’s complaints about him are more and more coming off as temper tantrums of a spoiled child who wants her own way. Second, the endless blame game that is going on all through season 4 so far (I’m only up to 407) and has been ebbing and flowing through season 3. It’s exhausting. And, yeah, I see how Tom is fracking with dynamic by being inserted by the writers between Red and Liz, that’s wearing extremely thin already. And Third and finally, with all the hanky panky going on (or gone on) with the DNA testing already, I can’t believe they actually put stock in that. Honestly, I’m really at the end of my patience with their willful naivete. I mean, how often does it have to be faked to get you to question it? Wasn’t there even a Blacklister who could lay a false DNA trail??? Why do they put any credence in it at all? Why isn’t their first response to question if it’s real?

For this  collection of Homilies, who was the editor is  not certain, and while traditionally it is attributed to Paul  the Deacon  approximately 720-799  There is also supposition that it was collected by Alcuin or even Bede.

What we do know is that the production of Homiliary began in the 780s when Charlemagne (742/743–814) appointed  Paul the Deacon to compose a Homiliary. Charlemagne,” has been represented as the sponsor or even creator of medieval education, and the Carolingian renaissance has been represented as the renewal of Western culture. This renaissance, however, built on earlier episcopal and monastic developments, and, although Charlemagne did help to ensure the survival of scholarly traditions in a relatively bleak and rude age, there was nothing like the general advance in education that occurred

later with the cultural awakening of the 11th and 12th centuries. Learning, nonetheless, had no more ardent friend than Charlemagne, who came to the Frankish throne in 768 distressed to find extremely poor education systems” [EB] “Charlemagne stands out as the personification of everything that is unselfish and noble, a conqueror who visualized himself as the champion of European unity with the purpose of saving Europe through imperial conquest—an evangelist with a sword. This was particularly true of the homilies of Pope St. Leo I, very terse and peculiarly suited to liturgical purposesThis particular Homilarium Begins [folio cxli] with Ambrose (340-397) Homilies for the  Quadragesima  (forty days of Lent -Yes lent is longer than 40 days even though there are more 40 days from Ash Wednesday to Easter. ( counting the days of Lent excluding its Sundays and the Sacred Triduum, which technically is a separate sacred time.) This takes up to folio 224 (cclxxiiii). Following St Ambrose who has iv sermons in this section  are sermons by Origen, Bede , John Chrystosom  Cyrill , Augustine , Peter Chrysologus  Archbishop of Ravenna , Alcuin of York . 

After the Quadragesima series begins the Homilies for The Passion of Christ (Holy Week) On Palm Sunday, Jesus and his disciples spent the night in Bethany, a town about two miles east of Jerusalem. This is where Lazarus, whom Jesus had raised from the dead, and his two sisters, Mary and Martha lived. They were close friends of Jesus, and probably hosted Him and His disciples during their final days in Jerusalem.

(c. 380 – c. 450) Archbishop of Ravenna, approximately 400-450 , The earliest printed work by Chrysologus is 1575 Insigne et pervetvstvm opvs homiliarum.He is known as the “Doctor of Homilies” for the concise but theologically rich reflections he delivered during his time as the Bishop of Ravenna. His surviving works offer eloquent testimony to the Church’s traditional beliefs about Mary’s perpetual virginity, the penitential value of Lent, Christ’s Eucharistic presence, and the primacy of St. Peter and his successors in the Church. Few details of St. Peter Chrysologus’ biography are known. He was born in the Italian town of Imola in either the late fourth or early fifth century, but sources differ as to whether this occurred around 380 or as late as 406.

John Chrystosom

Beyond Chrstostoms preaching, the other lasting legacy of John is his influence on Christian liturgy. Two of his writings are particularly notable. He harmonized the liturgical life of the Church by revising the prayers and rubrics of the Divine Liturgy, or celebration of the Holy Eucharist. To this day, Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches of the Byzantine Rite typically celebrate the Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom as the normal Eucharistic liturgy, although his exact connection with it remains a matter of debate among experts.

  Cyril’s jurisdiction over Jerusalem was expressly confirmed by the First Council of Constantinople (381), at which he was present. At that council he voted for acceptance of the term homoousios,(“consubstantial” this term was later also applied to the Holy Spirit in order to designate it as being “same in essence” with the Father and the Son. Those notions became cornerstones of theology in Nicene Christianity, and also represent one of the most important theological concepts within the Trinitarian doctrinal understanding of God) having been finally convinced that there was no better alternative. Cyril’s writings are filled with the loving and forgiving nature of God which was somewhat uncommon during his time period. Cyril fills his writings with great lines of the healing power of forgiveness and the Holy Spirit, like “The Spirit comes gently and makes himself known by his fragrance. He is not felt as a burden for God is light, very light. Rays of light and knowledge stream before him as the Spirit approaches. The Spirit comes with the tenderness of a true friend to save, to heal, to teach, to counsel, to strengthen and to console”. Cyril himself followed God’s message of forgiveness many times throughout his life. This is most clearly seen in his two major exiles where Cyril was disgraced and forced to leave his position and his people behind. He never wrote or showed any ill will towards those who wronged him. Cyril stressed the themes of healing and regeneration in his catechesis. the well-known Catechetical Lectures of St. Cyril of Jerusalem, to explain them to the catechumens during the latter part of Lent

Alcuin of York : Flaccus Albinus Alcuinus; c. 735 – 19 May 804 AD)—also called Ealhwine, Alhwin or Alchoin—was an English scholar, clergyman, poet and teacher from York, Northumbria. He was born around 735 and became the student of Archbishop Ecgbert at York. At the invitation of Charlemagne, he was a leading scholar and teacher at the Carolingian court, where he remained a figure in the 780s and ’90s.

Alcuin wrote many theological and dogmatic treatises, as well as a few grammatical works and a number of poems. He was made Abbot of Tours in 796, where he remained until his death. “The most learned man anywhere to be found”, according to Einhard‘s Life of Charlemagne (ca. 817-833), he is considered among the most important architects of the Carolingian Renaissance. Among his pupils were many of the dominant intellectuals of the Carolingian era

Origen :Origen of Alexandria ( c. 184 – c. 253)

Origen, most modest of writers, hardly ever alludes to himself in his own works; but Eusebius has devoted to him almost the entire sixth book of “Ecclesiastical History”. Eusebius was thoroughly acquainted with the life of his hero; he had collected a hundred of his letters; in collaboration with the martyr Pamphilus he had composed the “Apology for Origen”; he dwelt at Caesarea where Origen’s library was preserved, and where his memory still lingered; if at times he may be thought somewhat partial, he is undoubtedly well informed. We find some details also in the “Farewell Address” of St. Gregory Thaumaturgus to his master, in the controversies of St. Jerome and Rufinus, in St. Epiphanius (Haeres., LXIV), and in Photius (Biblioth.
