Here's a list of ingredients with various protective and cleansing properties that I've found useful in my closet witch practice! Note that I'm not an expert and these are just my own experiences and interpretations.

Eggshells! Great protection qualities and can also be used for renewal spells as well. A good easy spell would be sprinkling bits of it around the front of your home with the intent of providing protection

Salt, a classic cleansing ingredient that you'll find in your mom's kitchen. Various kinds have slightly different properties. Tip: if you add ashes to it, then it becomes black salt, which in my experience is very a strong cleanser especially if you add a bit of moon water. It becomes a paste and can be used for various things such as sigils

Iron nails. Not only protective, but can deflect back. Like a "back the fuck off" kind of protection. Bonus if it's rusty

Thorny vines, barbs, etc can function like nails

Pinecones. Similar to eggshells, but a bit more spicy (mess with me and I'll nip you back) but not as intense as nails. Also has great renewal properties since it's a seed

Obsidian, a great protective crystal to have on hand

Custom protection sigil, all you need is a pen, paper, and intuition. Or just write it with charged water on yourself

Moon water, especially full moon water. Very strong cleansing

Incense and smoke cleansing, I like using rose. DO NOT USE WHITE SAGE

Enchant jewelry or something you have on you on a regular basis with protective and positive energy properties. It can be as easy as making a sigil for it and activating said sigil by burning or tearing it up or dipping it in charged water. Very secretive!

Pepper! Again, similar to the nails, but with an added kick and slightly different way of carrying out things. Instead of deflecting immediately, it deflects over a slower period of time, like how burns do

Ask a deity or spirit you're working with to bless a charm. Very effective! Can be literally anything!

An easy tip for my fellow spirit workers or others who use candles in their magic (especially "light it and leave it" style casters):

Put stickers on your lighter(s). Have a different colored lighter for various moods or purposes. Put stickers on those shits. My favorite spirit work lighter is hot pink (because it's what I had) and is covered in relevant stickers. A little holographic ghost, a candle, purple and yellow hearts, a butterfly, a white lily, the word "remember."

It's literally that easy. Enchant your lighters. With the power of STICKERS.

Self-Love Mini Spell

You will need:

Mirror

Rose quartz

Pink candle

Self-love doesn’t come very easily to some of us. But loving yourself is the stepping stone to a successful relationship. It motivates us to practice positive behavior. Self-love is not falling into self-hatred or shame when we mess up. If you are doubting yourself and need a little self-love boost, try this little spell daily until you truly love yourself inside and out.

Light your pink candle and hold the rose quartz in your dominant hand. Say out loud while looking in the mirror:

“I love myself fully and unconditionally. I treat myself with love and respect. I make positive choices for myself. As I will it so mote it be.”

Focus on how you feel and will feel when you obtain self-love. Imagine all the positive choices that lie ahead and picture yourself choosing happiness and positivity. When you are done, blow out your candle.

the herbalist sources i have and trust don't mention a damn thing about oregano so i've made up my own correspondences damn it

oregano?

she's that bitch for family and friendship spells and she makes a great offering to ancestors especially. she's ruled by air and mercury which is a fun break from the gendered norm. she's all about communication and understanding. having an emotional issue? allow her airy logic to release and counter-balance the heated tempers and watery eyes.

-petty family feud of some kind? use oregano to prepare a meal and then invite over the offending party/ies to hash out your differences while in fellowship. allow her communicative properties to soothe everyone's egos and open up new paths to mutual understanding.

-take a bath in oregano and salt before a difficult cord cutting spell to prepare your body to release its attachment smoothly. can also be the ritual in and of itself for less intense relational cleansing

-put her in sachets or bowls that only have a few ingredients to help bond strengthen and meld their existing energies

-use oregano oil to anoint behind the ears of your partner before renewing your vows as a promise to always hear and understand one another

How I make sigils

sigil magic is pretty popular, and there are many ways to do it. this is how i design and use mine!

step 1) numbers

first step is choosing the number of sides the drawing will have, and therefore the centerpiece. today im making an elemental symbol to charge spells. in my tradition we have three elements, so my sigil should be three sided.

any three sided shape would work for me, but i felt drawn to something like this.

step 2) symbology

next i want to start adding easy symbols to represent the concept my sigil is based on. this means i need to represent land, sea, and sky.

here for sky i added some birds and suns. it's important that the shapes are simple to re-create later.

i keep drawing and try to make the shapes connect to each other in an aesthetically pleasing way.

for land i added some mountains, and to connect them i tried to blend the lines in as solar rays.

lastly i need to include the sea.

i put some large waves, also coming out of the suns.

step 3) sealing

now i just want to tie it all together. usually this means adding random squiggles to close off any "open ends" in the drawing. in this sigil there are two big gaps i want to close- right above the sun, and in between the ends of the waves.

my philosophy on this is that i want the energy to be flowing through the sigil continuously, not getting stuck in a gap.

step 4) preserving

finally i edit the photo to high contrast black and white, save it to a folder on my phone, and i can reference and draw the sigil whenever i need.

some other considerations while designing

- should the sigil be symmetrical or not?

- can you picture how energy moves through it?

- does the sigil have a simple enough design to be replicated in the future? should it be simplified?

So, you’re going to need:

Rosemary (to return strength - lucky herb too)

Cinnamon (for speed)

Oregano (for luck - isn’t really necessary)

Basil (luck too - isn’t necessary)

Bay leaf (to enhance and set intention)

Rice or black pepper (to absorb any negative energies)

Cast a circle (I usually envision and feel energy flow around my workspace into a circle)

Set your intention (just say “my intention is to attract luck”)

This isn’t necessary but you can light a candle to draw strength from.

Use a pen or marker to write on the bay leaf “I’m grateful that everything goes my way” or “I am lucky” (adding emotions like feeling “grateful” adds ✨ S P I C E ✨)

Put your protection herbs in the center like rice of a fireproof bowl.

Circle rosemary and your other herbs around it.

Set the bay leaf on fire and dump it into the bowl.

Envision the energy working through the universe and your life when it has worked. Really feel it.

Put everything out and close the circle.

Take the burned herbs and bury them in any plant (just not a rotted one💀💀) or throw them into the wind.

You’re done with your luck spell and should expect results after 7-18 business days /j. 😌💅

I put together a very small protection bundle, just a small vial of black salt & an amethyst, because one of our finance managers at work asked me if an amethyst would help her with protection. I gave her black salt for protection and and chevron amethyst because it's neat and if she's called to the stone then maybe it's the one she's meant to have right now.

When I gave it to her I told her how to make black salt for her own protective uses.

The theory of this is, since the little vial of black salt I gave her is simply corked, and not sealed, it can be uncorked, so it can kind of meander with the space she's in, absorbing & banishing any already existing negative energy while also rebuffing/repelling any new negative energy that would try to come into the space. It's as simple as "shake then uncork the jar to enact spell" type of cleansing.

To be fair, the vial I gave her is maybe less than an inch tall, it's a tiny thing, but she also now knows how to make her own black salt if she feels the need for more.

One of my favorite simply and low energy ways to incorporate witchcraft into normal life is popcorn! And it's perfect for closeted witches. Just add things to your popcorn for your intentions. It's like an edible spell essentially.

And if you haven't tried popcorn with herbs you're missing out. Great for getting your little ones involved in the craft too!

Simple spell I wrote on a whim before planning on getting shit done. Not great at writing them but hopefully it can prove useful

This can also be useful for any spirit or deity, just replace the dragons with whatever :}

ps: make sure you specify what being you want invited/your target or else something that you don't want could let themselves in.

Self Love Spell <3

Ingredients:

- cinnamon stick

- goblet or wine glass

- some kind of strawberry drink (strawberry champagne, juice etc.)

- pink candle (can use white as a substitute) 

- your favorite crystal (rose quartz is preferred but you can use any) 

- any kind of cleansing method you have ( ex. I use fairy dust incense)

The Spell:

grab your candle, and carve into it “i love myself” & your name then light your candle. Grab your goblet or wine glass, and start to cleanse it with whatever works best for you! I usually use incense so I would light the incense and wave it around the goblet! Then take your cinnamon stick and if you can, carve into it saying “i love myself” as well. If you can’t because the cinnamon stick is fragile, it’s okay, don’t stress! 

Pour your drink in your goblet & start stirring it counterclockwise while chanting “i banish all hatred towards myself” until you feel it’s enough!

Stir Clockwise & chant “I welcome only love and contentment towards myself” until you feel it’s enough. Hold on to your crystal & say “with each sip, i destroy all self-hatred and let nothing but love, flow through my body” Meditate and set your intentions while you prepare to drink. 

Drink your beverage slowly, envisioning the love flowing into your body & driving out all of the negative feelings you have about yourself! 

What to do with ingredients: 

Incense: you can either leave it burning after you cleanse or turn it off and save it! 

Candle: Let it burn until it goes out by itself OR say “good bye, self hatred” and blow it out! 

Goblet: Kiss the cup, and wash it!

Cinnamon Stick: Eat it whole. just kidding, you can keep it for other spells, bury it, or whatever you’d like, it has served it’s purpose! 

Strawberry drink should be in your tummy :)

I’m so sorry for the lack of spell post this week, my butt has been kicked multiple times this week. But here is another quick and simple spell!

Light My Path Spell

Please note that this can be adapted for any deity, I just use the ones I work with!

Ingredients:

1-4 candles(one representing you, and one for each deity you call upon)

A sigil

A compass/drawing of a compass

Instructions:

Set your personal candle behind the compass. Then your signal beneath the compass. Any deities should be set behind your candle. Then start your spell!

“I call upon the ones who walk beside me, I am casting a light upon my path. Illuminate from the shadows what will come.”

Repeat each time you light a candle.

Then, meditate on your path forwards while holding the compass.

“Guide me forwards, help me to see through obscuring shadows, thus I shall wander. So mote it be!”

Blow out the candles and close however you feel is right!
