(The sky clears and Marinette looks up at the cloud formation. She narrows her eyes and begins to climb. Her ascent is almost vertical.)

MARINETTE: Don’t look down, don’t look down, don’t look down, don’t look down, don’t look down. (GROWLS) Don’t look down.

(She peeks down anyway, and is almost overcome by her fear of heights, but grits her teeth and soldiers on.)

(She breaks through the clouds, where she is immediately propelled forward by the tailwind.)

MARINETTE: Oh, yeah!

(She conquers her fear of heights and performs a barrel roll as she celebrates.)

MARINETTE: Ha-ha! Whoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo!

Oare Creek @ North Kent Coastal Path by Adam Swaine Via Flickr: Oare is a small village just one mile west of Faversham in East Kent. It is separated from Faversham by Oare Creek which runs right round to Faversham Creek. This walk is part of the Saxon Shore Way I believe. Oare was apparently once know as “Ore” which means “marshy place” in Saxon and you can see why.

Old Money Collection - Liyahsims x @mapleesimsss

Hello! A new collaboration! This time I worked with Mapleesimss to bring this collection to life. She had in mind to work on equestrian clothing and I had in mind something with an "Old Money" vibe, so she did some research on patterns and style while I made the first sketches and worked on the meshes and textures. I hope you like this collection, we had fun creating it for you!

Step into the essence of "Old Money" style, inspired by the relaxed elegance of life in the Hamptons. This collection captures that perfect blend of luxury and simplicity that defines fall getaways on the East Coast. This collection is made up of 14 items and I used autumnal colours and plaid and houndstooth patterns.

I visited Japan and China recently. In Japan, I had a lot of fun riding the 'JR' Shinkansen from Osaka to Tokyo. In China, I had lots of fun riding the 'CR' bullet trains all over the beautiful countryside. However, I'm now back here in the stateside, and I have a burning question...

How come the USA doesn't have commercial passenger bullet train service?

I thought we were to greatest country on earth, according to a certain billionaire former president of ours who is now fighting to keep himself out of prison and trying in vain to get himself back into power (he wants the one P not the other P). If all the other major global powers and some non-powers have bullet trains, and we're supposedly the greatest country on earth, why do we in the USA do not have even one bullet train???

Kudos in advance for answering this question as quickly as you can.

There are several reasons but lets look at 4, Firstly, in the early 2010s, there was a push for High-speed Rail, The Obama Administration even promised to pay for several projects, most notably High-speed Rail between Chicago and Minneapolis, but the Governor of Wisconsin told Obama that he didn't want the money to build high speed rail.

Next there's the California High-speed Rail project which is currently building High-speed Rail between LA and San Francisco, due to outdated environmental laws, and constant suing from land owners in the central valley, the project took years to begin construction and is going wildly over budget and isn't expected to finish with phase 1 till the late 2030s

Florida in the 80s through to the 2000s had plans for HSR between Miami and Tampa, but that was canceled due to Rick Scott being against the project and the Florida East Coast Railway refusing to cooperate

Finally there is the Northeastern Acela Corridor, which has some high speed sections but hasn't been able to increase speeds on much of the track due to local opposition and a lack of funding, there will be some newer trains somewhat soon though that will increase speeds

AANG (V.O.): That’s right, Katara. And ever since they left the Grand Canyon, Agreste has maintained the lead.

(The two rivals race across the east coast countryside of rolling green hills under grey skies.)

(Marinette catches up with Gabriel as they move around a pair of communication towers, much to Gabriel’s surprise.)

GABRIEL: What?

MARINETTE: Hi.

(Gabriel accelerates with a burst of speed. Marinette is unable to match as Gabriel leaves her behind.)

MARINETTE: (GRUNTING) Come on, come on, come on, come on, come on! Come on, come on, come on, come on! Not now! Not now! Come on, come on, come on. No!

It's Road Trip time. My first stop was in Maryland. Visiting te Antietam Battlefield. For a long time I was wanting to visit this historic spot, and decided that was about time to go!

My trip to Taiwan

I took a break from posting because...I went to Taiwan! This was my first time going there, and I was mostly in Taipei. I had a great time and took many, many photos. I'll share some highlights here (along with commentary) to commemorate my trip.

You can't tell here, but there was a row of porta-potties directly to the left of the archway. That was a funny sight. There was also a stage in the middle of the square. Maybe they do outdoor concerts?

Besides the main roads, most streets lacked raised sidewalks. Instead, they had a painted path. I had to get comfortable being very, very close to cars and other vehicles.

I’ve seen motorbikes before in China, but Taipei took things to a new level. Motorbikes were absolutely everywhere. I even saw this parking lot exclusively for motorbikes. They rule the streets.

In the busy downtown districts, you often don’t need an umbrella due to the covered sidewalks. You can walk for blocks and blocks while staying covered. This was pretty convenient on rainy days.

Confession—I didn't think the National Palace Museum was that good. Probably because I've been to the actual Forbidden City in Beijing. And sadly, the Meat-Shaped Stone wasn't on exhibit.

In the US, some stores will provide a plastic bag for your wet umbrella. In Taipei, many stores had a rack or basket outside instead. Most were not as secure or elaborate as the one pictured.

I bought a couple books and a Yoga Lin CD at the Eslite 24-hour bookstore. I only planned to swing by, but I think I spent 2 hours there. I definitely recommend checking it out if you're in Taipei.

Taipei 101 台北101

It was overcast when I went to Taipei 101, but the view was still nice. On the bright side, there was NO line. 101 is by far the tallest building around, so you really feel that you're looking down at the city.

Taroko National Park 太魯閣國家公園

Taroko was the only place I visited outside of the Taipei/New Taipei City area. It's in Hualien county on the east coast. There were so many betel nut stores in the countryside on the way there.

Taipei has the best parks! They really put American parks to shame. Before going, I didn't understand why so many Taipei parks are tourist destinations with 4.5+ star reviews, but now I totally get it.

Elephant Mountain 象山

I didn’t realize how mountainous Taiwan is. Taipei is cradled by mountains, so there are many places to hike, even within city limits. I braved the rain for the famous view from Elephant Mountain.

Subway billboard 臺北捷運

The Taipei Metro/MRT was amazing. So fast, clean, frequent, and convenient. US subway systems are a joke in comparison. These are from an amusing series of billboards promoting riding etiquette.

Some other observations:

I was quite impressed by all of the English signage in Taipei. I think it would be very easy to navigate even if you don’t know Chinese. Many stores and small eateries had menus, signs, etc. in English.

I knew Taiwan had many convenience stores, but I was not prepared to see a Family Mart or 7/11 on every block. Someone needs to open this style convenience store in the US ASAP.

I saw numerous adds featuring Korean actors like Son Ye-jin and also kpop groups like IVE and NewJeans. I also heard kpop playing at various stores, whereas in America, I only hear it at Hmart.

I was struck by how many street signs and subway stops names used pinyin romanization. There was a lot of inconsistency and mixing of different romanization systems. For example, you have Taipei vs. Beitou (same character: 北).

There were many Japanese stores, pharmacies, and restaurants. Upon further consideration, this makes sense given Taiwan's history, but it stood out to me nonetheless.

Overall, I had a lovely time in (mostly) Taipei. As a big city (but not too big) surrounded by beautiful nature, there's something for everyone. I already want to go back! Of course I also want to see some other areas of Taiwan too. Maybe next year.

Hard-launching this impulse fic! The idea came to me literally about a week ago and within a few days I had Eilidh in my head and had to get her on the page. I'm planning to post a character intro for her very soon, so be on the lookout!

This story will be my humble contribution to the Jack Kidd fan club, because he is just a tired air exec and deserves it. I didn't expect to ever really write for him but now I have so many ideas I can't wait to explore them.
