Actually before I go like. Iâd seen the video of IVs scream in Rain and I just previously thought âoh how nice that adds a lotâ but today in the car I thought. Wait? Is there? So I turned the volume up to 40 (I usually have it between 23-29 on the highway) and uh. đł That was the very first time I noticed Vesselâs scream in Rain.
I should perhaps listen more closely if headphones???
#I am Not entertaining thoughts of losing my hearing rn#bc I would be SALTY AF as I wear earplugs to all concerts#and work is the loudest bc oven and proofer and microwave beeps all the time#and the oven fans#and the Music and the customers and the coolers have fans and the freezer too and just. itâs so LOUD đ#and they say âno hearing protection neededâ#AND THE FUCKING BREAD SLICER TOO#rattle rattle motherFUCKER#though. I have been VERY scared of it (I did also work in fast food which is also LOUD) when I couldnât hear an instructor hardly at all#from the middle of the room#I spent the two courses I took with him (heâs lovely) sitting right in front of him so I could hear I was. extremely distraught.#but anyway. since then Iâm more likely to sit near the front of a classroom#Rain (sleep token)#shattersâ fragments#and also bc Iâm super sensitive to sound#(that I hear)#I canât discern very well on radio like at all like actual ass maritime radios#but like. when I listen in earbuds or headphones Iâm almost always on the lowest volume#and sometimes it seems too loud đ

The dog I'm petsitting has such a loud bark it sets off the hearing damage alert on my phone. He's been screaming like a banshee for twenty minutes straight and I can feel my laptop's trackpad vibrating from how loud he is.
#like sir do you WANT to give me hearing damage??#he sees a person walking down the street and just loses his little doggy mind#he's a sweet boy though#i love him#even if I have to wear noise-cancelling earbuds to protect my ears from his bark

my mom is losing her hearing due to excessive earphone and earbud use and I donât feel all that bad for her because Iâve been telling probably since 2021 to not wear her earbuds so often because she would wear them literally 24 hours a day even in bed âtrying to sleepâ and now itâs probably too late to anything about it
#I donât even wear my own earbuds unless Iâm taking my dog for a walk#or in the car#because I want to protect my hearing#but she just kept telling to shut up and now look đ¤ˇđ˝ââď¸#life.docx

pairing: lando norris x fem!driver!reader
word count: 1.2k+
summary: your boyfriend is there as you crash out in a race
warnings: pda, some swearing, injury mentions, protective lando, i guessed on some stuff | i do not know how certain things work in f1 so if i messed that up i am sorry đđ
Your pre-race playlist filled your ears as you leaned the side of your body against the wall of the track barrier. Even though youâd done this so many times before, it doesnât lessen the nerves in your body. It wasnât even your first time on this track, yet it had you picking the skin off you fingers as you zoned out.
You were pulled out as someone came up behind you and wrapped their arms around your waist, grabbing your hands and holding them in theirs. You knew who it was right when you saw their hands. You looked behind you to see your boyfriend. You freed your hand from one of Landoâs and took out an earbud. âStop picking.â Is the first thing you heard out of him.
âSorry,â you replied as you took the hand still holding his and brining it up to your mouth and kissed his knuckles, âjust nervous.â He smiled softly at you and turned you around to pull you into his chest. âI know, but youâre going to do great.â âSo I guess you see the future now, yeah?â You joked. He shrugged his shoulders, âone of my many talents.â âSure.â
Lando had come to see you race because it was the one race that didnât take place at the same time as his did. The Bahrain Grand Prix had just taken place about three days before. He had taken a day to himself before he came and joined you in Jeddah. It was challenging with both of your schedules but you made it work, you always did. You both knew the risks and the troubles of two F1 drivers dating, and you both were prepared.
He poked your cheek. âHey, are you sure youâre okay?â He asked you. âYeah. Just have a feeling something will go wrong today.â You said lowly as you looked at the cars on the track. âYouâll be fine, y/n. Youâve had this before and nothing happened.â You nodded into his chest as you breathed in and out. Right as you pulled away your race engineer came up to you and told you it was time. Lando kissed you and wished you good luck as you handed him your phone and earbuds and put your mask and helmet on.
Time passed quickly ââ probably because of the adrenaline ââ and before you knew it you were in your car watching the lights. Your hands felt sweaty under your gloves as you didnât dare to blink. You didnât want to miss it. As the lights went out, your car came to life and you sped ahead. That feeling of something going wrong was still there but you tried to shake it off and focus on the race.
Lando was in the garage with your engineer and mechanics, eyes peeled on the screen. He noticed how shaken up you were and he was worried. Like he said to you, youâd felt this before but this time he could tell something about it was different. His hands were shaking as he kept his eyes on you and talked to your engineer to try to calm himself down.
Your voice interrupted his senses as he watched you enter your 24th lap. âSomethings up with the tires, Iâm getting no grip.â His eyes flicked to the man beside him. âNoted. See if you can hold on a little longer.â Your engineerâs voice filled your ears. âGot it.â Lando was left alone after that as your engineer got up to talk to the mechanics.
When the big screen showed your car, Lando got worried. He saw how little traction your tires had and how you were slipping on your turns. He could hear the commentators voice as well commenting on that as you finish the 27th turn and get ready to start your 25th lap.
As he watched you speed up the track, he didnât even notice until after it happened. As you tried to turn on the first turn, you tires skidded across the track and you couldnât complete the second turn, causing your car to crash into the barrier. It didnât look too bad, but all Lando could hear was silence and all he could think about is if you were okay.
âY/n? Are you okay?â Your engineers voice cut into the silence of the radio. He got even more worried when you didnât answer. âY/n? Baby?â Lando asked into the headset. More silence. He turned around to see if anyone knew what was happening until he finally heard your voice.
âDoing great.â You grunted. âNothings broken ââ I donât think ââ but my side does hurt. I think I mightâve bruised it when I hit the barrier.â Lando sighed it relief. He was right, it wasnât too bad. Nothing was broken and you thought it was just a bruise.
âThe safety carâs been deployed and it heading your way. Donât go running anywhere.â You engineer instructed you. âNot going anywhere,â you joked with a light laugh before a hiss came out. With only some trouble you eventually made it out of the car and sat against the barrier to wait for the safety car. You could tell that Lando was worried by the sound of his voice . . . and because you know him. You and him were on the same wavelength, if you could describe it in any way. You felt things the same, and because of that you knew how the other was feeling. You felt the same when he crashed in the Las Vegas GP. It was almost the same too, you spinning out and hitting the barrier. It was entirely coincidental.
You sighed in relief when you saw the safety car ââ you were ready to get out of there. Your side hurt like a bitch, way more than it did before, and your legs were starting to get tingly. The adrenaline must be wearing out. Lando never turned his gaze away from the screen as they put you in the safety car. He knew you were in good hands, but it ultimately didnât matter to him. Anything could go wrong.
Lando was right beside you when you got out of the safety car and taken to the doctors on site before you were taken to the hospital. As you were in getting checked out the the doctors, Lando was rambling. âThey shouldâve taken you off the tires when you told them. They shouldâve taken it more seriously. If they had then âââ You interrupted him by putting your hand over the one that was holding yours. âItâs fine. If I had felt more nervous I wouldâve boxed anyway. Plus, Will wouldâve done the same and you would be acting like me. Itâs not their fault.â
He sighed, and you knew he knew that you were right. âI know, I just worry.â You kissed his hand, âI know you do. And I do too when the same things happen to you. But Iâm fine. Theyâll take me to the hospital where theyâll double check I have no injuries. If it makes you feel better Iâll even let you check.â You joked. He laughed and shrugged. âI wouldnât mind that.â
The doctors eventually told you that you were good to go to the hospital. Nothing looked too bad, but it was standard procedure. You sat up with a groan and Lando immediately made a face. You shot him a look. âCâmon, Iâm fine.â He didnât agree. You rolled your eyes. âLetâs go, youâre coming with me to the ambulance. Maybe theyâll let you turn on the sirens.â

25 Days Later â p.sh
minors do not interact!
pairing: ethical serial dater!sunghoon x fem!reader
genre: fluff, angst, smut, fake to real relationship trope
synopsis: For Park Sunghoon, relationships should remain uncomplicated. With life already filled with complexities, he believes that dating should only last for twenty-five daysâjust enough time to enjoy each other's company before parting ways. And thereâs Yoon Y/n, who was driven by her curiosity rather than romance, finds herself intrigued by Sunghoon's unconventional plan, prompting her to join him for these twenty-five days. Yet, beneath their playful interactions, an unpredictable tension hints that things may not be as simple as they appear.
word count: 39k (iâm sorry?)
warnings: protected sex (YES! PRACTICE SAFE SEX), Sohyun from triple S as Hoonâs twin sister (love that), reader has a bragger moment, mentions of corpses and dead people, mentions of accidents. I stopped putting indications midway cause i have already reached the maximum of ten photos per post thing (still donât know how this works). Grammatical and typographical errors ahead!
Day 26
Sunghoon just stared blankly at the screen of the laptop in front of him. His canvas was empty, and it seemed like he didnât know where to start with everything he had to do.
He knew he had to get to work. There was a deadline he needed to chaseâone website, a set of marketing materials, and cover studies for a book set to release three months from now. But damn, his brain just
wouldnât cooperate. There was only one thing on his mind since last night:
Yoon Y/n.
Sunghoon was confused. It shouldnât be like this. Heâd spent years perfecting his dating lifestyle, and heâd never messed up. Nothing like this had ever happened to him after nearly a month of getting close to a woman.
His heart pounded harder as his mind filled with thoughts of Y/n.
He roughly ran his hands over his face, even tugging at his hair in frustration. "Fuck! Is karma getting back at me?â
He looked up, staring blankly at the ceiling as he recalled Y/nâs beautiful faceâthe sweet smile, the lively laugh, the softness of her hair, the smoothness of her skin, and that nightâŚ
Then he remembered her tears, the sadness in her eyes, the words sheâd said that cut deep into his heartâŚ
He cursed himself repeatedly as he realized just how big of an asshole heâd been. He needed to do something to redeem himself and save the only romantic relationship he could describe as real. He saved his work, then shut down his computer. He quickly showered and got dressed.
He needed to talk to Y/n.
In just minutes, he was already on the road. If he could, heâd have flown his car just to reach her house sooner. He could already see her familyâs house when a motorcycle suddenly cut in from his side.
He swerved to avoid the rider, but even though he managed to dodge the motorcyclist, his car collided with a streetlight instead.
The screeching sound of tires and the crash of metal filled his ears. Then, darkness consumed SunghoonâŚ
Day 0
âAre you really listening to erotica?â His twin sister Sohyun teased, putting the earbud back in his own ear to hear what audiobook Sunghoon was enjoying.
Sunghoon laughed at his sisterâs mocking expression. âIs that what youâre listening to? No wonder you didnât hear me knocking on the door for the past ten minutesâ she exclaimed incredulously. âWow! I never knew you had this side to you, Hoon.â
âYou're over exaggerating,â the male chuckled. He turned his attention from the cover of a young adult fiction novel and glanced at his brother. âFirst of all, youâre overreacting again. Second, you have a key, so you didnât need to knock. Third, Iâm doing this to drown out the music from the neighbors.â There was a wedding resort next to his apartment, and he often heard the wedding march two to three times a day. During June or December, it could reach five to seven times, and he was already fed up with it. âAnd fourth, Iâm working, so of course, I need to concentrate.â
âYeah, right. Just admit itâyouâre only focusing on the love scenes in that audiobook,â Sohyun smirked.
âFifth,â he continued as if he hadnât heard his sisterâs interjection, âThis isnât erotica. There was just a love scene, and you happened to catch me at that part. It's not even that explicit; the sex is just implied.â He didnât want to sound defensive, but thatâs exactly how it seemed based on Sohyun's smirk.
The woman settled on the sofa in his small apartment, which he was still paying for with his income as a freelance web developer and digital artist.
âI have a date later. I found a physical copy of this book in her bag, so I searched for the audiobook. Of course, I need some ammo in case our conversation turns in that direction.â
âOh.â His sister shrugged. âWell, you're practically an authority on what women want. Iâm sure you know what youâre doing.â
That was sarcasm. Even though his sister's way if delivering the statement didn't make it obvious, Sunghoon was sure of it. He laughed. âIs it really an exaggeration to call me an authority? Iâm not an expert. I donât know everything that women want, dear sisterâjust some things. Honestly, I think your kind is too complicated to fully grasp. I just happen to know a few bits.â
His twin snorted. âIt doesnât suit you; stop pretending to be humble. I know the story about how youâve supposedly spent years studying the perfect dating formula.â
She took a sip from her paper cup and shifted the conversation. âAnyway, speaking of dating, who are you seeing now? And how many days has it been?â
He smiled. âAre you interested now?â
She rolled her eyes, but his grin widened. âHer name is Daehi. Yoon Daehi. I met her at Jay's birthday party,â Sunghoon explained, referring to a friend. âSheâs a high school teacherâsmart, a bit immatureâwhich is understandable since sheâs still young, kind of boring, and weâve only gone out once. Tonight is our second date.â
âYou call her boring, yet youâre still pursuing her?â
âItâs bearable. Plus, you know I prefer that they break up with me before twenty-five days, right? Iâm a gentleman like that.â
Sohyun snorted again. âIâm quite surprised that youâve managed to convince a lot of people with that 25-day theory of yours. I heard a TV show even contacted you, saying that they wanted to feature you.â
âI declined,â he replied with a proud smile. âIâd like to keep my life private, thank you very much. I told them that if they really wanted to feature me, I could consider discussing my theory with them, but they shouldnât include me in the feature. They agreed.â
No, Sunghoon wasnât a celebrity. It just so happened that he and many of his acquaintances had been in multiple relationships, allowing him, at twenty-four, to calculate the ideal duration of a romantic relationshipâtwenty-five days. It could be shorter, but it shouldnât exceed twenty-five days, because after that, the thrill is gone. The romance fades, and thereâs a boredom factor that creeps in between a couple.
And it seemed that many of his friends who had tried this approach agreed with him.
He had also been offered interviews with magazines several times, but he turned them down. He did want to inform people to help them, though.
Sunghoon believed that if everyone followed his formula, many would be spared from heartbreaks and unrealistic expectations. Many would enjoy life more and be happy.
Of course, there were those who disagreed with himâthe traditionalists, the religious folks, the ultra-feminists, the sentimental romantics, and those who turned a blind eye to reality. But why should he let them affect him? His life had been free of heartaches since he started practicing the 25-day dating method three years ago. There was one time he had to file a temporary restraining order against a woman who wouldnât leave him alone, and there were two or three others who still contacted him, unable to move on. But generally, things were good! He had never been this happy before, and dating had never been this fun.
Sunghoon glanced at his sister, who was merely three minutes older than him. âIf I were, I would follow my own advice, and I bet you wouldnât be sad right now.â Sohyun raised a hand in protest. âOh, no. Donât involve me in your nonsense. Iâm happy being the single, strong, and independent woman that I am, so no thanks.â
âSo, you donât have plans on getting married?â he pressed.
âIf I do, then I do. If I donât, then I donât,â she replied nonchalantly. âWhat matters is that Iâm not at risk of getting HIV, unlike you.â
Sunghoon laughed. âIs that what you really think of me? Of course, I practice safe sex. And for the record, I didnât sleep with all of them. Out of the fourteen, it was only about five, maybe six, or even seven.â
âWell, good luck to you then. I hope karma doesnât catch up with you and slap you with some sexually transmitted disease, or that so-called true love that others talk about, or just a dose of your own medicine, or whatever.â He laughed even harder. âTrue love, huh? You still believe in that?â
Sunghoon guessed that his sister was still a virgin, unlike him. He hadnât met any of her boyfriends, although she had admirers. It was also impossible for her to be a lesbian since she would blush over Kim Soohyun and other handsome, muscular K-actors. He suspected that his twin sister had been disheartened before but just didnât talk about it. Or maybe she simply had high standards.
Sohyun shrugged and took another sip of her coffee. âMy dear brother, just because we havenât experienced something doesnât mean it doesnât exist, right? Besides, I didnât come here to discuss your theories on loveâs existence.â
He pretended to furrow his brow at her. âOh, so you just missed arguing with me?â
âWell, thereâs a bit of truth to that.â He caught a glimpse of a smile forming at the corner of his sister's lips. âAnyway, I just wanted to mention that I have a friend whoâs interested in testing your theory. She wants to date you.â
His eyebrows raised. Someone volunteered?Interesting. This was only the third time something like this had happened. âAlright, how old is she?â
Her sister shot him a look of disbelief. âReally, Hoon? Thatâs your first question?â
âWhat?â Sunghoon shrugged.
"Sheâs a year older than us. She said she was curious about your theory. Also, youâre dating her younger sister, and she wants to spare her from the upcoming heartbreak, so sheâs stepping in to date you instead.â
âHuh?â he asked, confused.
âSheâs Daehiâs older sister, and she wants you to apply your 25-day dating theory with her.â
âIs this... friend of yours also a sociologist?â He asked as his sister had a doctorate in that field.
She shook her head. âSheâs a classmate of mine from the writing workshop I attended last month. We got close after meeting up for coffee regularly.â
âSo sheâs a writer wannabe too?â he asked, still puzzled.
âUh-huh. And sheâs also a teacher, patissier, sculptor, surfer, future architect.â
Sunghoonâs eyes widened. âWow, she must be really dedicated to her studies.â
His sister just shrugged. âSheâs had a lot of jobs. She says she was born curious.â
A slow smile formed on Sunghoonâs lips. He had a feeling he knew the real motive behind this womanâs interest. Maybe she just wanted to study him, being the friend of his sister. âHmm... so whatâs her name?â
âYoon Y/n.â
âHmmmâŚâ he said, pondering. âSo this Y/n... is she pretty?â
Her sister rolled her eyes. âWow, I didnât know you actually had standards.â Sunghoon chuckled as he scratched his nape.
Sohyun reached into the large bag beside her and pulled out her phone, scrolling and tapping on the screen. Then handed the phone to him.
It was a group picture of the women at the coffee shop. His sister zoomed in on the girl next to her, who was holding a book that he recognized as A Little Life by the cover. She had long, wavy brown hair, fair skin, beautiful sharp eyes, and a lovely smile, and a cute mole right below the side of her left eye.
Beautiful. There were other words he could use to describe her, but they would all be synonymous with that one wordâbeautiful.
âHmmm,â Sunghoon said, trying to ignore the sudden flutter in his chest and stomach. âSo when are you going to give me Yoon Y/nâs number?â
His sister's grin widened. âI knew that sheâs your type!â She handed him her phone, where the details of his new date were displayed. âJust donât hurt her, okay? If you do, Iâll be the one to beat you up.â
âOf course not. No crying; weâll just have fun.â he teased.
In his mind, Sunghoon was already planning his next moves. He would probably break things off with Daehi tonightâin a sweet, memorable, and romantic way, of course. Then, heâd gently break up with her. Heâll then contact her older sister, whoâs more attractive and seems more challenging.
â
Your sister's face was in a deep scowl as she came down to your workplace, which was just below your house.
"Is it true that you'll be going on a date with Park Sunghoon?" Daehi demanded without any preamble.
It seemed sheâd already talked to the guy sheâd been seeing lately, and judging by her look, things hadnât gone well between them. She was still dressed for her last date with Park Sunghoon, wearing a black maxi dress and a fully made-up face. You just nodded, continuing to put on your coat, gloves, and mask as you prepared to meet your new clientâsomeone who, apparently, had only been dead for an hour. Yes, your client was indeed deceased. The family business provided funeral and mortuary services, and you often worked as an embalmer as a side line.
"Why are you doing this, Y/n?" she snapped. "What's your damn point?"
You forced yourself to stay calm, keeping your tone steady. "My point is to spare you from getting your heart broken by a man who clearly doesnât have good intentions for you."
"I'm not that vulnerable!" she insisted, her voice rising.
"Keep it down, Daehi. You might wake the dead." You smirked, glad you had your mask onâseeing you smile would only fuel her anger.
"This isnât a joke, Y/n. Youâre stealing my date," she snapped. "Why do you have to be such a⌠a homewrecker?!â
"Iâm doing it for your own good, Daehi. And seriously, stop being so dramatic. Itâs not like you were about to marry him. Heâs a serial dater; he wonât take you seriously."
"You donât know his heart well enough to say that!"
You burst into laughter. "Oh my god, Daehi! Just stop. You sound like youâre in some soap opera. Are you planning to get into acting?"
She stomped her foot in frustration. "But I like Sunghoon!" Her voice cracked, on the verge of tears. "He's funny, sensible, cute, and I'm falling for him. How could you do this to me?"
You rolled your eyes. A week into knowing him, and she was already âfallingâ? Over-the-top.
You finished putting on your work gear and faced her. "See? This is exactly why Iâm doing this, Daehi." You pointed at her. "Look at yourself. Youâre too emotional, childish, gullible, and you canât keep your emotions in check. Especially when itâs for someone who has no intention of truly caring for you and will leave within weeks. Youâre choosing to put your heart at risk! And yet, youâre mad at me for trying to protect you? Whereâs the logic in that, Daehi?"
Her eyes filled with tears, taken aback by your bluntness.
"Iâm not a kid, Y/n. Iâm twenty-two; I donât need your protection. I can handle myself."
You shook your head. "Thatâs a bit of an overstatement."
She glared at you, her tears starting to fall. "Well, I hope he breaks your heart the way you just broke mine," she said before storming off.
You sniggered to yourself. Your sister really was dramatic.
With a shrug, you walked into the prep room, where you spent the next two hours cleaning, draining the blood, removing the internal organs, injecting formaldehyde, dressing, and applying makeup on your client, a fifty-five-year-old woman.
As you were singing along to the Backstreet Boys' I Want It That Way playing over the speakersâa rather ironic choice given your situationâyour phone rang in your pocket. Ignoring it at first, you finally checked when the caller proved persistent. The number wasnât saved in your contacts.
"Hello?" you answered, not bothering to remove your mask.
"Hi! Is this Y/n?" The voice on the other end made your eyes widen and your heart skip a beat.
Damn, eargasmâŚ
"Uh, y-yes."
"This is Sunghoon, Sohyunâs brother."
"Oh," you said, a bit taken aback. "Hi."
"She told me you were interested in dating meââ
You paused mid-stroke as you applied lipstick to the deceased woman in front of you, finding his words a bit odd. "UhmâŚwell, Sunghoonâ"
"Oh, please, donât tell me you're backing out. I acted like a jerk tonight and told your sister I found you interesting, and nowâŚâ
Your eyes went wide again. "Wow, that was quite harsh!"
You heard him sigh. "Iâm really sorry. Sometimes, no matter how much I try to say things well, they just come out wrong. But I do mean well for your sister. Sheâs sweet, and she deserves someone better. We actually just talkedâthink weâre on good terms again. Anyway, would you like to meet up tomorrow?"
You stared at the body in front of you. "Uh, wait, Sunghoon... I'm kinda in the middle of something right now. Could you message me the details? But yes, I'll definitely meet you tomorrow."
"Thatâs great!" His deep voice was filled with excitement. "Okay, Iâll message you. See you tomorrow, Y/n."
"Bye." You quickly ended the call, tucking your phone into your pocket while pressing a hand to your chest.
Good lord, that voice could easily narrate an erotic novel.
After taking a few deep breaths, you got back to work. Once you finished, you cleaned up your supplies and stepped out of the room. You encountered one of the staff members and told them that the body was ready to be placed in the coffin.
You removed your lab gown, mask, and gloves, disinfected yourself, and headed to your parents' office.
âIâm going home now, Mom,â you said to your mother, who was busy at her computer, seemingly lost in calculations. As a Certified Public Accountant, she managed the funeral home's accounting books. "Where's Dad?"
"He just took your sister home. She was crying when she came here and wouldn't stop. She said she's going to lock herself in her room toâher wordsâcry properly."
You chuckled at the newly found information. Your sister could really be the next big K-drama star.
Your mom looked at you closely. "What happened? Did you two have a fight?" You snorted and sat in the chair across from her large oak deskâthe one you used whenever you helped with office work. You explained your sisterâs infatuation with a notorious serial dater and how youâd tried to keep her from getting involved. Youâd learned about this guy from one of her close friends. Apparently, your sister had gone out of her way to befriend one of Sunghoonâs friends just to get introduced and ask him out.
You werenât sure if she was influenced by your own adventurous streak, but you knew your younger sister well enoughâshe wasnât as detached as you were. She was sentimental, naive, and far too trusting. If you let her go through with this dating scheme, sheâd end up crying and heartbroken for sure. "I only want to protect her, Mom. Itâs really for her own good."
Your mom laughed. "Youâre always like this with Daehi. Youâre more overprotective of her than your dad and I are."
You shrugged. "Well, look at your daughter.â Itâs like she doesnât have a brain, you wanted to add.
"But why did you have to volunteer to take her place?" Your mom raised an eyebrow. "You actually want to get involved in that twenty-five-day whatever?"
You scratched your temple. "I just thought it might be easier for him to let go of Daehi if he already has a new date. And, honestly, Iâm curious, too, Mom."
Your mother watched you carefully, concern evident in her eyes. "Are you sure you can stay objective while dating that guy? What if you end up falling for him and get hurt?" she asked, worried.
You laughed. "Mom! The man is practically a robot. He has no heart; he plays with women and drops them after twenty-five days. Thatâs it. How could I ever fall for someone like that?" You almost added, Do you think Iâm that foolish? If you didnât fall for the decent suitors youâd had before, why would you fall for someone like him? It would be a waste of your Business Management degree and your soon-to-be degree in Architecture if you did.
"I hope so. I donât want to see you get hurt, Y/n."
"Donât worry, Mom. I know exactly what Iâm getting into. This is nothing personal, just like my other little misadventures. Iâm just curious."
Her expression softened into a smile. "I was just like that when I was young, too. Itâs okay to be free-spirited, dear, but donât forget to take care of yourself, okay?"
You gave a playful eye roll but smiled. "Mom, if I werenât careful, would I still be coming home in one piece after everything Iâve done?"
Youâd already done a three-day mountain trek, cared for tigers at a zoo, gone skydiving, and much much more.
"Sometimes, sweetheart, no matter how cautious you are, life can still surprise you," she said with a knowing smile.
"Alright, head on home before I end up using todayâs earnings just to pay for your overtime." You chuckled. "Youâre exaggerating, Mom." You stood up and gave her a kiss on the cheek. "Good night."
"Good night, dear. Iâll be home soon, just need to finish up a few things here."
Day 01
If Sunghoon had been less self-assuredâif he didnât have confidence in himselfâhe might have felt small under the scrutiny he was receiving. It was a stark contrast to the obvious admiration heâd seen on Daehiâs face when they first met. But since he was well aware that he didnât look bad, he simply held your gaze, studying your features just as carefully as you did.
The night before, he had made his last date with Daehi extra special. Believing that honesty was the best policy, heâd told her about what her sister had said and admitted his interest. Sheâd walked out, ignoring his repeated calls until, finally, around ten, she picked up.
â
"I feel like a jerk for doing this to you, and Iâm really sorry,"
he had said.
"Good that you know!"
she replied.
"I really am sorry."
He heard her sigh on the other end.
âItâs fine, Hoon. I appreciate your honesty. Honestly, my sister is more interesting than me."
"No, no, thatâs not what I meant, Daehiâ"
"And,"
she cut him off,
âIf Iâm being honest with myself, Iâd admit that there wasnât much spark between us anyway. Sure, I had a crush on you, but it was more like we were just siblings agreeing to go out on dates."
He exhaled in relief.
âMaybe I just wasnât the right guy for you. Youâre a sweet girl, Daehi; you deserve someone better. Someone whoâs not a jerk like me."
"I know, right?"
She laughed on the other end.
He found himself smiling, too.
âSo, have you already met my sister?â
There didnât seem to be any bitterness in her voice anymore.
âIâm calling her tonight."
Daehi giggled.
âNow that I think about it, you two might actually be a good match."
â
He hadnât fully understood what that meant until he finally got to call you. Your voice sounded muffled, as if there was something covering your mouth while you spoke to him, but he quickly noticed that you didnât seem like your sister, who was sweet, fun-loving, and romantic. From your tone and demeanorâeven though he could barely hear itâSunghoon could already sense you were more direct, even strict.
Now, facing you in person, his impression was slightly different. You looked like⌠a scientistâa scientist who was carefully studying some microorganism under a microscope. And he was that microorganism.
To his surprise, you were far more stunning in person than in the photo his twin had shown himâwho had even called him earlier to wish him luck. And every part of him that could heat up practically did when he saw you up close.
You werenât dressed in anything revealing. A simple white satin dress and sandals with a slight heel, not overly curvy or busty, but you radiated an undeniable sex appeal. Sunghoon didnât know if you had this effect on every man, but on him? If he couldâif he really couldâheâd grab you, steal a kiss, and whisk you away somewhere private. But, of course, that wasnât an option. He wasnât raised that way, after all. Plus, he wanted to get to know you⌠and stare a little longer. Your face was stunning, such a pleasure to look at.
"You look⌠okay." It took a moment for Sunghoon to register what youâd said.
"Hmm? Excuse me?" he replied, a bit confused.
You shrugged. "I said you donât look bad.â you rephrased your statement from earlier, yet, it still sounded unpleasant to his ears.
Wow, who does this woman thinks she is? and what kind of men does she interact with? Models or celebrities, perhaps?
Sunghoon had never met anyoneâwhether a girl, boy, or someone from the LGBTQ+ communityâwho called him ugly. Never. The worst comments heâd received were about his skin being too fair, or that his teeth were too white, or that his nose was too perfect, but no one had ever said, or even hinted, that he looked bad.
He couldn't take his eyes off your face. "What do you mean? Am I ugly?"
You laughed. "If youâre ugly, then what do you call an average person?"
Sunghoon exhaled and smiled. Okay, maybe he just panicked and exaggerated a little bit. It seemed that you werenât being harsh after all. He was just about to open his mouth to thank you when you continued speaking.
"Iâm just curious on why youâre doing this. You donât seem disillusioned. With your looks, you donât look like someone who would reject someone heartlessly." His smile widened. "Thank you. You donât look bad yourself."
It seemed like you didnât even hear what he said and continued your statement. âUnless you have a really terrible personality," you added, which made him frown again. "Or maybe you have smelly feetâ"
"Hey, hey, hey, hold it." Sunghoon raised a hand to stop you. "My personality isnât bad, and my feet definitely donât smell. Iâm doing this 25-day dating thing because itâs effective."
"Says who?" You raised an eyebrow at him.
"Says my three-year record, my unbroken heart, and my happy, stress-free life," he replied confidently. "And a lot of my friends agree with me."
One corner of your mouth lifted in a smirk, and he hated how cute he found that. "Really? Is that so?" Hoon grew serious and crossed his arms. You were confusing him, honestly. He couldnât tell if you were interested or not. While you became more attractive in his eyes, he was also starting get annoyed by your comments.
"So, what do you want to say?" He shrugged. "Why are we here now?"
"Because I'm curious."
He had a feeling that wouldnât be the first time that word would come up between you.
"Okay. So youâre willing to do this with me just because youâre curious?" You nodded. "Youâll be wasting twenty-five days of your life just to satisfy that curiosity."
You took a sip of iced coffee from the plastic cup you were holding. "Thatâs fine. Iâm naturally curious. Iâve made most of my big decisions out of curiosity." He didnât quite believe you, but he decided not to say anything.
He took a deep breath and explained like he was some kind of a tour guide, "So we'll date for twenty-five days, and then weâll go our separate ways. No hard feelings, no regrets."
"I know that," you nodded, as if you were one of his clients negotiating about projects. Very professional of you.
He sighed, clearly frustrated. "This is so weird."
"Why?" you laughed lightly. "Your dates know the rules too, right? Youâve surely briefed them about it."
"Yes," Sunghoon agreed, "but never like this. They didnât come in with another motive. They just wanted to get to know me genuinely."
"I actually want to get to know you too," you replied. "What do you mean?"
"It just feels so⌠unromantic. Impersonal, you know? Like weâre making a business deal."
You laughed again, and damn, why did he find that so cute? He really shouldnât be feeling that way anymore. "Because this is sort of a business deal, right?"
"Thatâs not completely true!" he insisted. "If thatâs how you think, this isnât going to end well."
"I'm willing to cooperate," you said seriously.
He scratched his neck. "It doesnât feel like weâre on a date. It feels like youâre conducting a social experiment, and Iâm your subject."
"In a way, thatâs correct. I want to get to know you and understand why youâre doing this."
He was getting really annoyed at this point. "Why does that sound like you think I'm some second-rate person just because I chose to handle my love life this way?"
"I'm not judging you, Sunghoon," you replied calmly, which helped keep his irritation in check.
"Youâre definitely an interesting person, and I know itâs not just because of this 25-day dating method. But I guess you canât blame me if I focus on that aspect, right?" You clenched your jaw, trying to avoid saying anything too harsh. "But please donât take it personally. My curiosity led me to that writing workshop where I met your sister, to continue my studies, and to create that long list of job experiences. So?"
How could he explain this? The theory was meant to be objective to avoid heartache, but the people involved shouldnât be too detached either. How could you both enjoy your time together if, in the back of his mind, he felt like you were analyzing him? And if you were constantly looking for flaws in his theory, how could he genuinely like you?
"Like I said, Iâve made plenty of decisions just out of curiosity, so this isnât really different from those."
Oh, really?
He almost voiced his thoughts. Why did it seem like you had ulterior motives? Was it that you were out to disprove his theory? Irritation flared up inside him. Well, you were in for a surprise; he was determined to make you like him so much that youâd forget this whole dating experiment was merely about curiosity.
"Okay, deal," Sunghoon replied.
Your smile was captivating, and for about two point three seconds, he found it hard to breathe. Yet, he was also annoyed because your smile felt like a challenge. You were quickly turning into a mystery for him.
Ah, now he was becoming curious about you too.
How could he feel both frustrated and attracted to one person?
â
"So what do you think?"
Your friend Sohyun asked from the other end of the phone. You had just come home from your meet-up with her brother and had barely stepped into your room.
"I think weâre perfect for each other,"
You replied, deliberately being dramatic.
You could hear Sohyun gasp from the other line, which made you laugh.
"You sound surprised,"
You remarked.
"Now that I think about it, you and Hoon do seem perfect for each other. Heâs a guy whose commitment lasts only twenty-five days, and youâre a girl who gets attached only until her curiosity is satisfied. You both seem to have perfected the art of moving on. It works."
"I know, right?"
you replied as you settled down on your bed.
"I think this will turn out well since weâre both objective and not into drama. Thereâs a chance we could be friends afterward. Though, he seemed a bit taken aback by me earlier. I guess heâs never met a girl who's not romantic or sentimental."
"Our kind is becoming extinct."
You both shared a delightful laugh before Sohyun probed again.
âSo what do you think of him? Do you think heâs cute?â
Cute? The word horrified you. What does "cute" even mean? My gosh, he wasâ
âOkay. He was okay.â you replied, an understatement of the century.
What do you even mean by "okayâ ? You didnât even know how to pretend that you werenât affected by the manâs presence earlier! Your act was top-notch.
From the tips of his neatly gelled hair to his ridiculously handsome face, his tall and poised frame, the way he carried his simple white button-up long sleeve, black trousers, and Prada loafers, his deep, resonant voice, his piercing gaze, the way his hot canines would show when he smile, and the scent that lingered...
God, did you really need to keep going with those thoughts?
And It didn't help that whenever he looks at you, it felt like he was taking in every feature of your face. You wanted to feel self-conscious and blush fiercely, but thankfully, you weren't really the type to blush. Your earlier image of being a 'confident and detached woman' was almost fading... along with your other pantiesâŚ.
Wait, what!? NO! Y/n, you are an intelligent woman and donât give in to physical urges that easily!
"You didn't find him attractive?"
Sohyun asked, sounding skeptical from the other end of the line. It seemed she didnât believe your description of her twin brother, and she was right to doubt it because it wasn't entirely accurate.
"Of course I did,"
You confessed.
âCome on, do you think I'm blind? I maybe in serious need of prescription glasses, but I can still recognize genuine good looks.â
Your friend laughed.
"That's great!â
You briefly pulled the phone away from your ear, surprised by the tone of Sohyun's voice. Was this really your friend on the other line? It sounded like she wanted to play matchmaker, and you, of all people, for her brother? That seemed like a bad idea.
"So when's your next date?"
She asked as you pressed your phone back to your ear.
"Tomorrow. Weâre just going to the park so we can talk better. Wednesday works for both of us since weâre free all day."
"Well, good luck to you both. I really hope everything ends well. I hope in the end, you both become wiser, happier, and better people. Because if either of you gets heartbroken, Iâll feel like itâs my fault."
You laughed.
"Come on! I volunteered for this situation. Plus, you know Iâm not the type to get heartbroken. You even said Iâve perfected the art of moving on. And itâs not like Iâm going to fall in love with your brother while doing this. He knows Iâm just curious about it, so itâs not really datingâitâs more of a social experiment."
Your friend's response was a heavy sigh.
âI hope so."
Which made you a bit nervous.
"Anyway, what are your plans for the last week of the month?"
She changed the subject.
"We're planning to go to Jeju. Do you want to come?"
You frowned, wishing you could join them. You missed going to the beach, but it seemed like you wouldnât be able to go until your semester break.
Day 02
âWhat's your favoriteâŚâ Sunghoon paused, rummaging through his mind for a word to complete the question, ââŚmovie?â
You two were at a public park, just a short car ride from where you live. You both spent the past hour walking, sitting, snacking on random food, and asking each other questions. And honestly, it was boring him to death.
You wore a light blue short dress with white shoes, looking cute as ever. Sunghoon had been holding himself back from leaning closer to give you a kiss very oftenly. His hands were practically glued to his pockets, trying to resist the urge to reach out and feel the softness of your smooth skin.
Maybe he was getting bored because he had something else on his mindâsomething that wasn't exactly appropriate for a first date, especially not in a public place like âthe parkâ.
Your lips puckered a bit as you thought, andâgoddammit!âhe was once again feeling that strong urge to taste them.
âStop! Donât answer that!â Sunghoon blurted out suddenly, startling you.
He sighed. âIâm going to die of boredom if we keep doing this like this.â
âLike this what?â you asked, a slight crease forming between your brows that he couldnât help but find adorable. He wanted to smooth it out with his fingertip. Maybe in the days to come, heâd get the chanceâand the rightâto do just that.
âLike thisâŚâ He gestured between the two of you. âItâs boring. It feels like weâre filling out a slum book, only verbally.â
You watched him closely, listening intently.
âWe need to do this⌠more naturally.â
You shrugged. âWell, youâre the expert here. Whatever you come up with, Iâll cooperate.â
Maybe we should just make out?
His inner voice teased. But of course, he didnât act on it. He was a gentlemanâat least, outwardly.
âLetâs go.â Sunghoon reached for your arm, guiding you toward his car. He drove the both of you for a few minutes to a nearby mall.
âWeâre going shopping?â You looked slightly disappointed.
"No, weâre just gonna try something different," Sunghoon said.
Moments later, you both stood at the movie theater ticket counter, scanning the list of films. "Instead of just asking each other what our favorite movies are, I thought this would be more fun. Weâll watch as many movies as we can today, then discuss them over dinner. Sounds good?â he suggested.
There was a sparkle in your eyes as you smiled at him. âDoesn't exactly match the formula for a second date you mentioned in that magazine article I read.â
He grinned. âWell, thatâs true. But letâs give it a shot. Who knows? It might actually be better.â
A slow smile crossed your face, making Sunghoon feel something fluttering once again.
"Consider yourself lucky you asked someone who loves watching movies.â
He laughed. âSorry, this is pretty unplanned.â
âItâs fine. Itâs more thrilling this way. Trust me, I know.â You flashed him another charming smile. âSo, which one do we start with? Iâve seen that one,â you pointed to a poster, âbut I wouldnât mind watching it again. The lead actorâs pretty hot.â
Sunghoon chuckled, aside from other things, thatâs the thing that heâs starting to like about you: your spontaneity. You both decided to buy tickets for the whole dayâthree movies, with only a few minutes in between each and all close by. You stocked up on snacks before heading to the first showing, ready for a full day at the movies.
â
"You could definitely work as a movie reviewer if you ever get tired of your job.â you commented that evening as the two of you sat down for dinner at a cozy Korean spot. You had spicy tteokbokki, while he opted for kimchi jjigae, and you shared a plate of Korean fried chicken on the side. You had just wrapped up discussing your thoughts on the films you watched, and though not every movie had been great, you couldnât help but be impressed by his sharp insights.
"Oh, thank you,â Sunghoon replied, pausing to take another bite of his stew. "I just really like watching movies, so I guess that's why my reviews sound so... extensive." He even used air quotes on the word reviews.
You watched him, thinking. "You know, Iâve never had a date quite like this. Do you usually go all out like this with other people youâve dated?â
You asked as he flashed you a smile that shows his beautiful canines. "Not really. Actually, this is the first time Iâve tried anything like this. Normally, itâs just one movie on a date, and never before the fifth date. I mean, bringing someone to a dark theater too soon could give them the wrong idea."
You couldnât help but feel pleased. The man had been on his best behavior in the theater. There were a few moments when your hands brushed in the popcorn tub, and heâd flash you a little grin, like heâd won some small victory. But that was the extent of it.
"Oh, really?" You gave him a skeptical look, clearly showing you didnât completely believe him.
He chuckled. "Come on, Y/n, give me a break. Iâm not just sweet-talking you. Sohyun told you already⌠and youâve read about it too. My 25-day dating theory has a strict plan. This was just a small exception."
You raised an eyebrow.
"Alright, maybe I didnât break any rules exactly. Letâs just say I loosened up a bit today."
"Is that so?" you said with a playful tone. "Guess Iâm pretty lucky. I almost thought youâd planned all of thisâto have us discuss movies so you could impress me with your reviewing skills." He laughed, eyes narrowing with amusement as his dimples deepened. He looked so handsome when he laughed that you found yourself tornâshould you pinch his cheek or just kiss him?
"I swear, I didn't plan it," he said, still grinning. "So, I guess I managed to impress you?â
You smiled back genuinely. âGood enough."
He let out a soft chuckle, shorter than before, but still cute.
âBut really, why are you doing this?â you asked as you turned serious.
"You mean the movie reviews?"
You shook your head. "No, Iâm talking about your whole... cause. Being a serial dater. Whatâs the reason behind it?"
"Youâre starting sound like a journalist with all these questions." A smile crept back onto his face.
You shrugged. "Iâm just curious."
"You really love that word, donât you?" he said with a smirk.
You shrugged again. "Don't bother keeping track of how many times I say it; youâll lose count."
After a brief moment, Hoon focused on twirling his pasta around his fork before looking back at you. "I want to live a life free of heartache. If only everyone could be like me. Thatâs what I truly want."
"Well, Iâve managed to avoid heartache for years, Sunghoon, even before I learned about your method."
His eyes widened in disbelief. "Seriously? Are you saying youâve never had a boyfriend? Because Iâd genuinely think somethingâs off with every guy youâve encountered."
You took a moment to process before laughing, finally understanding his point.
"Youâre such a flirt; do you realize that?"
You noticed him trying to suppress a grin. "Iâm serious." Your smile dimmed a bit.
His compliment flattered you, even if you recognized it as mere flattery. "Iâve had boyfriends before. Twice."
"And youâve never been heartbroken?" He sounded astonished.
You shrugged with a touch of pride. "As your sister have said, Iâm an expert at moving on."
"Is that for real? How do you manage that?"
"I just donât care too much. I donât give a lot of f*cks," you replied quickly. "I think thatâs the real secret to relationships. Donât assume, donât expect too much, and just let things flow in the way that they should." Sunghoon laughed. "I think youâre just saying that to make me doubt my theory."
"I mean, itâs not a secret that I donât really believe it, right? Letâs just say Iâm conducting some research, which is why weâre spending time together. Something like that."
"You know what I think?" He set down his chicken and looked at you intently. "Weâll just go in circles for twenty-five days. Iâll do something to prove my theory, and youâll do something to disprove it. Thatâs all. Nothing will come of it; weâll just be wasting our time."
You adopted a serious tone. "What do you mean?"
Is he really going to wrap this up now? Itâs just their first official date!
"I have a suggestion. Can we set aside our biases about how long this date will last? We both know it will end after twenty-five days, so why not enjoy ourselves?"
"If you donât insist on your theory, I might not argue with you," you teased.
He smiled back. "I genuinely find you interesting, Y/n. I want to get to know the real you, not just this detached and defensive persona you show." Your heart skipped a beat at his words. "Can we go on a date without any hidden motives in the back of our minds?"
You paused to consider. "So, like a genuine date, then?"
Sunghoon nodded. "You mentioned you're curious. Letâs make it real. No hidden agendas, just authentic companionship while we learn about each other. How does that sound?"
You felt a twinge of nervousness, but agreed nonetheless.
Day 05
âWhoa! Your family has a funeral home?"
You couldnât help but chuckle at Sunghoonâs surprised expression when he picked you up from work.
This was your third date. Over the past few days, your schedule had been packed, and Sunghoon seemed busy with his projects too, so you had settled for chatting, texting, and calling. This was the first time you were going out again.
âDidnât Daehi mention it to you?â you asked in return.
âWe only went on one date; we didnât get that far in our conversation that night. All I know is that heâs still a student and that his parents are businesspeople. The second date ended in disaster because I told him we should break up.â You shrugged as you settled into the passenger seat of his car. Daehi wasnât too proud of the type of business you had, so he generally didnât share much about it with acquaintances and friends.
She wasnât used to peopleâs reactions when they found out about the family business. Usually, people were either frightened or overly intrigued, leading to too many questions.
Your sister has never set foot in the morgue because she was afraid. When you were in high school, your dad took you there to explain the embalming process. He believed it was important for the both of you to understand everything about the business since you would eventually inherit it. However, your sister got traumatized when the corpse's eyes suddenly opened while your dad was cutting into its neck. No scientific explanation from your dad could convince her to pursue Mortuary Science after that.
âSo, where are we headed now?â you asked, changing the subject. Sunghoon hadnât said anything when he called you last night, just that you should dress casually and avoid skirts or white clothing if possible.
He smiled playfully while keeping his eyes on the road. âDo you like drive-in movie theaters?â
Your eyes widened as you realized what he meant. âOMG, donât tell me?â
He was referring to the popular drive-in movie spot near your town.
Sunghoon laughed, probably because of the excitement in your expression. âYep. Unfortunately, the VIP tickets that include a free dinner are all sold out. Weâll just have cheeseburgers, fries, and popcorn.â
You felt like jumping for joy. âOh, thatâs totally fine! Iâve been wanting to go there for so long, but I could never find someone interested.â You smiled at him. âThank you, Sunghoon.â
He briefly glanced at you and returned your smile, making your heart race again. âYouâre welcome, Y/n.â
You fell silent for a moment during the drive, but soon, your curious companion asked again, "So... are you involved in your familyâs business?"
You nodded. "Uh-huh. I often help out when weâre understaffed," you replied without elaborating.
"Meaning, you also do embalming?"
You burst out laughing at Sunghoonâs expression. "Of course! Youâre talking to a licensed embalmer here."
"Really?" He still seemed in disbelief.
"You have a problem with that?"
He shrugged his broad shoulders. "Aren't you a bit too pretty to be an embalmer?"
You were grateful that you didnât blush easily. If you did, you would be bright red from the handsome compliment. "You're exaggerating. So, you think only unattractive people should be embalmers?" you said with mock horror.
He shook his head. "You know that's not what I mean. I just think youâd be better suited to be a model or an actress."
You paused for a moment before breaking into a wide smile. "Seriously? Is that how you talk to all the girls you date? Did that work for them?"
"Seriously," he replied, pretending to frown at you. "Anyway, I'm still curious. Do you like your job? Aren't you uncomfortable working with dead bodies?"
You examined Sunghoonâs arms for goosebumps, but there were none. You explained, "I have no choice but to like it. Come on, it has been my family's cause of living. My parents built it from the ground up long before I was born. All these years, those bead bodies have been what supported our family." You paused for a moment. "Wait, that sounds wrong. Did I just say that dead bodies support our family?" You both laughed. If taken literally, it sounded like they were zombiesâbrought back to life by the dead.
"Sorry if my reaction offended you," Sunghoon said after your laughter faded.
You waved a hand dismissively. "Oh, itâs nothing! Iâm used to that. Your reaction is totally normal, I tell you. It is pretty morbid, though." You decided to change the subject. "So, do you enjoy being a freelance digital artist?"
"Yes." He answered simply.
âIs that it?" you probed, wanting to hear more of his thoughts.
Sunghoon chuckled, a glint of enthusiasm lighting up his eyes. "Well, it's challenging. I see every project as a challenge, and I rarely get bored.â
"Sohyun told me you also design book covers. Do you get to read all the books you work on?" As a bookworm yourself, that thought thrilled you.
"Sometimes," he said with a shrug. "More often than not, clients provide just a synopsis. If they want a mysterious vibe, theyâll only mention the themes. Some clients have a specific idea of what they want for the cover, which simplifies things. But I really enjoy having more control over the whole process; it adds a certain thrill."
"I assume you take your own photos?"
"Sometimes. But that usually raises the cost. Most of the time, I either purchase stock photos or draw them myself."
You took a moment to reflect, appreciating how the conversation flowed since it felt comfortable and engaging. "But what if the cover doesn't match the book? Like, if the cover looks flawless but the content is awful? Does that bother you?"
He shook his head, concentrating on steering the car as he made a right turn.
"But isnât that misleading? Doesnât it seem like false advertising?"
"Not my concern," he said casually. "My job is to design a cover that boosts sales. Thatâs it. It doesnât matter if the book is bad; the cover just needs to look appealing enough to attract buyers."
"Oh no, I donât agree with that," you replied after a pause.
"What donât you agree with?" Sunghoon asked, genuinely intrigued.
"The false advertising part. Iâll always choose honesty, even if itâs brutally honest, over any kind of deception."
âOuch!â Sunghoon clutched his chest as if he were in pain. âThat hurts! Did you just call me a liar?â
You couldnât help but laugh at his exaggerated reaction. âCome on, I didnât say you specifically. And donât take it personally; I can be a bit opinionated sometimes. Thatâs just my perspective; it doesnât mean Iâm right. I know that sometimes we canât avoid lying to others. The truth can hurt, and if we want to spare someoneâs feelings, we have no choice but to hide certain truths.â You took a deep breath, feeling slightly drained from the amount you just expressed. âAnyway, what movie are we going to watch now?â
Sunghoon's expression brightened as he began to explain where you would be headed next.
â
âWell, isnât this such a romantic scene,â you teased, laughing lightly.
You had just wrapped up the first movie of the double feature, and now it was intermission before the next one. A local band was serenading the audience with a popular love song while you both lay on a plush mattress in the back of his F150, gazing up at the stars. Hoon turned his head to catch a glimpse of you, who was lost in the beauty of the night sky, filled with twinkling stars. A playful grin crept onto his face as an idea struck him.
âItâd be more romantic if you scooted a little closer and rested your arm on mine,â he suggested. âThen I could lean in toward youââ
You burst into laughter. âIn your dreams, Park.â
His smile grew wider at your reaction. Hearing you laugh filled his heart with warmth, and he silently vowed to always give you reasons to smile. âYou really come off as someone whoâs anti romantic when you laugh like that at those certain things, you know?â he teased, inching closer until your shoulders brushed against each other, savoring the sweet scent of your hair.
âDaehi also told me that I donât have a romantic bone in my body. What does that even mean?â
"Aww. Your suitors must have it tough since youâre not easily swayed by romantic gestures."
You shrugged. "I don't know why either."
"So, you're probably not sentimental either?" he asked, curious.
"Well, I get sentimental about family, movies, things like thatâthose kinds of stories make me tear up."
"Really?" Sunghoon propped his elbow on the grass, resting his head on his palm so he could look at you instead of the sky. Somehow, the star beside him seemed to shine brighter than the ones above. "No wonder you didnât cry during Eye for an Eye,â he pointed out, referring to a movie youâd watched on your second date.
You shifted to mimic his position, a sparkle of amusement in your eyes. "You were the one who cried!" you teased. "Did you think I didnât notice you sniffing?"
That made Sunghoon smile in embarrassment, and he couldnât resist playfully pinching your cheek. You swatted his hand, but he simply held it gently and planted a quick kiss on the back of it. You seemed a bit too stunned to react, and his smile faded for a moment.
"I don't remember enjoying conversations this much with any of my ex-dates. They were never this fun or this easy to talk to," he admitted seriously.
You felt a little flustered and looked away, but managed to crack joke, "Oh, so you're using seduction as a technique now, huh?"
Sunghoon reached out and gently held your chin, bringing your gaze back to meet his. "Itâs called honesty, Y/n. You said you appreciate honesty, thatâs why Iâm telling you.â
Your mouth opened as you thought of something to say, but before you could respond, the host's voice came through the speakers, announcing that the next movie was about to start.
"Come on, letâs get up," you said.
"Wait a sec," Sunghoon replied, pulling out his phone and holding it up above you. "Let's take a pic first."
You pretended to strangle him for the photo.
â
You couldnât quite explain the feeling as you lay in bed that night. A smile lingered on your lips, and there was a lightness in your chest that wouldnât fade.
You closed your eyes, trying to drift off, but then Sunghoonâs face would pop back into your mind from when you both had been together earlier.
Out of everyone youâd dated, he was easily the most handsome; no question about it. But you werenât the type to fall for just a pretty face. Sure, Sunghoon was easy on the eyes, his whole presence was. But that wasnât the only reason you felt drawn to him. You both shared a laid-back approach to life and relationshipsâno unnecessary drama, no over-the-top seriousness.
You liked his voiceâdeep and soothing to the ears. If you werenât mistaken, âmellifluousâ was the right word for it. You had a feeling itâd sound amazing if he ever decided to sing. You also liked how he spoke his mind, how his eyes always glinted playfully, and how his mouth would curve into a restrained smile. It just made it harder to breathe whenever he did both while looking at you with those beautiful eyes.
A soft giggle escaped you as you recalled how it felt like fireworks had gone off inside you when Sunghoon kissed the back of your hand and told you he enjoyed your conversation.
You shook your head. No, you were just amusedânot smitten. Who were you kidding? You knew this wasnât anything long-termâscratch that, association was probably the better term. So why let yourself get swept away?
Your train of thought was interrupted when your phone chimed, signaling a text. You picked it up and couldnât help but smile when you saw Sunghoonâs name.
Park Sunghoon: Just got home. Quick drive, no traffic.
Park Sunghoon: You asleep?
You briefly debated ignoring it and pretending to be asleep, but your fingers had already started typing.
You: đ´
He replied instantly.
Park Sunghoon: Oh, you look pretty when youâre asleep, Y/n.
You were about to respond with Only when Iâm asleep? when your phone rang, startling you so much you almost threw it. The ringing wouldnât stop, though, so you answered it.
âHi, gorgeous."
A pandemonium erupted in your chest.
Just like the first time youâd heard Hoonâs voice over the phone, you thought heâd have made a great telephone operator⌠or maybe an audiobook narrator⌠or someone youâd call when you wanted a little phone fun.
Huh?
âY/n?â
He called out again, snapping you back to reality.
âI told you I was asleep, didnât I? So whyâd you call?â
You asked, pretending to be annoyed. He only laughed in response. And oh, that laughâso rich, so masculine, and so dangerously seductive.
You bit your bottom lip to hold back a giggle.
âAre you free tomorrow? Itâs the last day of the Hot Air Balloon Fest, and I was hoping to take you,â
He said out of nowhere, making your heart pound.
Seriously, no segue? Did he have no mercy on your poor heart?
You were about to say yes when you remembered the date.
âOh, sorry. Midterms are on Monday. I need to review tomorrow.â
âHow about we go in the morning so you can study in the evening?â
You sighed.
âI wish I could say Iâd be able to study three subjects with just a few hours.â
âIs that so?â
You could sense the disappointment in Sunghoonâs voice, and you felt like kicking yourself. Why hadnât you reviewed yesterday or earlier today to lighten your load for tomorrow? Honestly, why did you sign up for a new course when you already had a degree in Business Management and an embalming license? Why did you fill up your calendar so much that it made it hard for Sunghoon to take you out on a proper date?
âYouâre way too busy, a student and an embalmer, huh?â
He laughed, which made you smile.
âYeah, Iâm also a patisserie chef, a licensed aromatherapist, an ex-surfer, a former high school teacher, a photographer, an average mountaineer, and a sculptorââ
âWhoa!â
Sunghoon exclaimed.
âYouâve studied all of that?â
âYeah.â
âBut why? I mean, aside from just being interested.â
He asked, clearly curious.
"That's just how I am. I enjoy learning new things, visiting new places, and experiencing different things,"
You explained, chuckling at his response.
âDo you like to travel as well?"
"Uh-huh. If I didnât have to help out at the funeral home, I wouldâve traveled more and tried out different things."
"With all the things you want to do, I guess starting a family isnât in your plans yet?"
"I'm only twenty-five, come on."
"But what I mean is, is it part of your plan? Or are you also like Sohyun? Just trying you ignoring that aspect of life?â
"Well, finding the right person is tough. You can't really plan on falling in love with someone and wanting to marry them. Love doesnât come with a timetable,"
You said with a laugh.
âThat was cheesy, Iâm sorry.â
He chuckled softly.
âBut itâs true.â
You shrugged even though he couldn't see you.
"And besides, we're dating, right? Who knows, maybe I'll end up liking this 25-day dating method of yours and follow your lead. At least it doesnât come with too much commitment."
There was a moment of silence on his end.
Then he shifted the conversation.
"Anyway, do you want me to help you review?"
Uhm, hello? And how are you supposed to study when there's a tempting distraction right in front of you?
You let out a soft laugh.
"Thanks, but how about we just go out on Monday night instead?"
"But there won't be a Hot Air Balloon Fest then; tomorrow is the last day."
You felt a pang of disappointmentânot just because you also wanted to experience the hot air balloon ride, but because Sunghoon seemed genuinely sad about your refusal.
"I'm sure there are plenty of other places we can check out."
Sunghoon exhaled thoughtfully for a moment before laughing.
âOh, I had just the perfect idea. Alright, Iâll see you on Monday."
"Okay,"
You responded, trying to sound shy. But goodness! Why were you getting excited already? You had just parted ways!
âItâs a date.â
You hummed and nodded in agreement.
âSo, Y/n,â
Sunghoonâs voice lowered an octave, sending a thrill through you.
âWhat are you wearing?â
You felt your cheeks flush. Oh god, his incredibly sexy voice sent shivers down your spine, leaving you breathless. Your face felt warm all over.
âPark Sunghoon!â
You scolded, realizing what he was doing. He laughed heartily, clearly enjoying the tease.
Day 07
"You look happy. Iâm guessing youâre going on a date again, right?" your classmate Yunjin nudged you, clearly teasing.
As you all headed out of the college building, carrying your bags after finishing three tough exams, you smiled at her. Since you were pursuing a second degree, she was younger than you, which reminded you of Daehi.
âIâm just glad the exams are finally over. Now I only have my thesis and finals left to tackle.â
âAlready? Youâre such a downer. Why donât you come with me and Kaz to karaoke tonight,â she suggested.
You remembered your conversation with Sunghoon on Saturday night before you fell asleep. He had mentioned he had a surprise for you later.
"Ah, I have a prior commitment, sorry."
Yunjin clicked her tongue, though she was smiling. "I knew it, you have a date with Dracula's son."
Something inside you reacted to what you heard. Thatâs what your friend calls Sunghoonâlike a vampire. Because of how the guy looks (in a good and hot way), and you couldn't disagree more with that.
Since early Sunday morning, he had checked up on you a few times and checked how your review was going. You only responded to him twice to avoid showing how much you missed him more than you should have.
You shrugged while concentrating on the path to the train station. âJust a pretend date. You know I'm just trying it out. And he wants to convince me to do the same 25-day thing heâs doing."
"Well, for someone who's pretending to date, you two are pretty convincing. It doesnât seem like itâs just pretend, with the sparkle in your eyes when you mention him. It looks like you're genuinely attracted to him. And who could blame you, right?" She teased. "Oh my God, just his eyebrows alone make me swoon." Your friend was practically gushing.
You laughed. "Really? His eyebrows?"
"That's exactly what I'm saying! His eyebrows alone are enough to make anyone swoon. Just imagine if we talk about his eyes, his nose, his lips, his jawline... Oh my gosh! And his body!" She practically squealed again.
You smacked your friend lightly. "Hey, stop that! You look like you're having a seizure.â
She paused and you saw her gaze fixated on something in the distance, a wide smile spreading across her face. You followed her line of sight, and there he was. Butterflies and worms were stirring in your stomach. Oh wow, Park Sunghoon really does look like a walking wet dream.
He was standing by his car, wearing a simple blue-and-white striped button-up, beige trousers, and his favorite loafers, looking like he had just gotten a fresh haircut. But what truly made him look even better was that broad smile and bright expression when he saw you.
You both had planned to meet for dinner later. What was he doing here on campus?
"My God, Y/n, if you wonât take him for real, I swear Iâm going to steal that panty-cream of yours and keep him for myself,â you heard Yunjin say with a mock squeal, giving you a playful shove.
"Get over there before someone else beats you to it! Iâm leaving so you two can have some privacy and so I wonât be tempted to kiss someone else's date. Bye!"
You shook your head and laughed at your friend, who had stayed back in her spot, just watching you and Sunghoon.
Your heart raced as he walked towards you. "How did your exams go?" he greeted, his sweet smile still on his lips.
You shrugged. "It was okay, though I almost bled out from the level difficulty," you joked. "Why are you here so early? Donât you have work today?"
He raised a hand and brushed away some stray strands of hair from your forehead and temple. "I finished everything last night so I could see you earlier. I missed you."
You pretended to roll your eyes, but a wide smile broke through. The jerk was flirting with you again, and you let him don it anyway.
"You donât have any classes, right? Do you have somewhere else to go?" Sunghoon asked, sizing you up.
You shook your head. You were just planning to have a beauty rest at home while waiting for your dinner date. But now that the object of your beautification was right in front of youâŚ
"Then, letâs go!" Sunghoon took your hand and pulled you toward his car.
"Where are we going? Itâs still too early for dinner."
It wasnât even two in the afternoon yet.
"Itâs a surprise," he said with a grin as he opened the door for you. For a brief moment, you felt the urge to kiss his lips just to see if that smile was as sweet as it looked.
â
He had been restraining himself, curious about whether your sweet smile really tasted as delightful as it appeared. Although you were dating, it didnât feel entirely like one, leaving him uncertain about whether he had the right to kiss you whenever he wanted. In the back of Sunghoonâs mind was the reason you were together at that moment: your insatiable curiosity.
Regardless, he was enjoying your company.
He watched you as you soared through the air, gripping tightly while paragliding with the guide. Your gaze was fixed on the scenery, especially the setting sun illuminating one side of the mountains.
It would have been more enjoyable and more romantic for him if he were the one gliding with you, but he wasnât an expert at it yet, so it wasnât possible. Nevertheless, he enjoyed himself even while gliding separately. The sound of your laughter and squeals filled the air, bringing a light and sweet emotion to his heart.
He saw you ran over to him as soon as you got out of the harness and greeted him with a tight hug. "That was so much fun! The sunset is beautiful. Thank you, Sunghoon." He returned the hug and lifted you slightly off the ground, making you squeal in surprise.
All traces of regret over not gliding together earlier faded away. He set you down and stepped back a little to see your face. Sweat glistened on your skin, but you looked radiant with beauty and youth.
He couldnât hold back any longer and leaned down to give you a quick yet firm kiss on the lips.
âWeâll do it again, I promise. Next time, Iâll make sure Iâm good at this so I can glide with you,â Sunghoon said directly, trying to mask the impact that kiss had on him. God, his knees felt weak, and it had nothing to do with the activity they just did.
He gently caressed your cheek. "Come on, itâs getting dark."
That was when you seemed to snap back to reality, pulling away from him in surprise. He felt a rush of happiness knowing he wasnât the only one affected by that innocent kiss. He took your hand, squeezing it gently, and pulled you closer to your group.
A few hours later, feeling satisfied with what you both had eaten, you were on your way home, chatting cheerfully about various topics.
"Do you have class tomorrow?" Sunghoon suddenly asked as he noticed that you both were getting close to your house. He wanted to gaze at you, but that wasnât safe since he was driving.
"No, but I have work," you replied, referring to the funeral home. "Why, are we going on another date?"
"Just a dinner, maybe. Is that okay?" He shot you a cute look, trying to deceive you into agreeing with him. What annoyed him was that you didnât know how to blush; he couldnât tell if his moves were working on you.
You gave him a playful glare. "Is this how you are with your past dates? Do you really go out every night? That must cost a lot."
No was the right answer to your question. Sunghoon only took his dates out once a week because they both had jobs. But he wasnât ready to admit that this was different from his past dates. He even recalled how you laughed when he told you that you were the most enjoyable person to talk to among all his dates. He shrugged and feigned confidence, saying, "You know that I could easily get a sugar mommy, right?â
"Oh my god!" You playfully hit his shoulder while laughing. "If we go out every week, I might get tired of seeing your face, Park."
He pretended to wince, âOuch?â
You laughed even louder. "Iâm just kidding!â
You pinched his cheek. "Stop acting cute. Alright, come over to my place so we can save some money. I can teach you how to embalm."
The young man smiled. You were wrong when you thought that the he would refuse your offer. He was already starting to come up with a strategy; he would keep his focus on you the entire time you were at the morgue. That way, if anyone else was there or if the corpse did something unexpected, he wouldnât notice.
âYou can also join us for dinner.â you added. "Iâll cook you some japchae, kimchi fried rice, and kimbap."
He couldnât help but grimace, but that quickly faded into laughter, making his reaction even more apparent. A warm feeling spread through his chest as he listened to your voice and observed your expression.
To Sunghoonâs dismay, you both had already reached your house, and it was time to say goodbye.
"But you really should get home before eight tomorrow because I have another exam the day after," you reminded him.
He quickly brainstormed. "I could help you study for that."
"Yeah, but you might end up distracting me from my review even more."
He shrugged. "Alright, I promise I won't smile or smolder too much so you can focus."
You laughed at what he said. "That's not what I meant, Park.â
"I'll behave, I swear. Come on."
You looked at him, weighing your options. You weren't sure what other reasons you could use to discourage him. Sunghoon raised a hand and tucked a few strands of hair behind your ear. "If you haven't noticed, Iâm going to spell it out for you: I'm just making up reasons to spend more time with you, Y/n. I just want to be with you more, so please donât make it hard for me."
You froze, your eyes wide as you focused on him. After a moment, you playfully punched him on the shoulder.
"Such a flirt," you chuckled.
He secretly frowned. This seemed to be the issue with your situation; you took everything he did as a joke or just an act. "Well, you said you appreciate honesty," he shrugged.
You observed him for a few moments, trying to gauge on whether he were serious. Then, you flashed a sweet smile. "I think it's time for you to meet my parents. Come on in."
He was surprised as he watched you step out of the car and walk in front of his window, knocking on it.
"You coming or not?" you asked when he finally opened his door.
âComing!â he shortly replied, quickly hurrying to follow you into the house. All the while, it felt like there was a hyper drummer keeping time in his heart.
Day 11
Sunghoon found himself distracted as he worked on designing a website for a Christian foundation. His gaze kept shifting to his phone, waiting for a reply from you. He missed you, and if he could, heâd fast-forward through the days just to see you again.
His mind wandered back to the day after your paragliding adventureâŚ
â
A big smile had spread across Sunghoonâs face the moment he woke up that morning. Heâd started his work early to get as much done as possible before heading to your place later.
He enjoyed spending time with your parents. And, without sounding too confident, he could tell they liked him as well. Meanwhile, it seemed that Daehi had already moved on from him. She spent a bit of time chatting with the rest before she headed upstairs, saying she was expecting a call on her cellphoneâmost likely from her suitor, who, judging by her smile, she liked too.
Anyway, he had a great time with Yoonâs. Your parents were hardworking, down-to-earth, and wise in conversation. They took pride in their work, honoring the departed with respect and dignity. They didnât let him leave right away, so it was around ten when he finally said goodbye. Later, lying in bed, you exchanged a few more chat messages before officially calling it a night.
By the next morning, all he could think about was none other than Y/n, Y/n, Y/n. He was eager to see you again, but work got in the way. By eight in the morning, he couldn't take it any longer and finally gave in to the urge to call you.
The call connected after two rings. "Hi! Good morning!" he greeted brightly. But what answered was a sniffle. "Sunghoon..."
Concern quickly filled him. "Are you crying? What happened? Is something wrong?"
"M-my grandmother... She p-passed away," you stammered before breaking into sobs. Between shaky breaths, you explained that your fatherâs mother had been found unresponsive at her home in the province. She was eighty-four, had been a widow for a long time, and lived with the family of one of her children.
"I'm sorry, but we wonât be able to meet later. Weâre packing right now since weâre flying out to Busan this afternoon. Dadâs assistant will handle things at the funeral home while weâre gone."
Sunghoon felt a wave of disappointment but kept it hidden. âI could drive you and your family to the airport."
"No need. We donât want to trouble you. Weâll just take an Uber." You sniffled again. "She was so full of life when she celebrated her birthday in October."
Sunghoon sighed. "Y/n..." He wished he could be right there beside you, to hold you and offer comfort.
"I'm sorry, I have to go. I need to finish packing quickly. Iâll call you later, okay?â
"Alright," he replied quietly. "Take care on your trip."
"I'll see you in ten days, Hoon. Bye."
"I miss you already," he murmured, but you werenât able to catch that.
â
Now, four days later, Sunghoon was feeling lost and out of sorts. Their nightly calls were the only thing keeping him sane. His distracted gaze left his phone when he heard a door opening. A moment later, the door cracked open, and his twin sister's face appeared.
"Hey! How's my devilishly charming brother?" Sohyun greeted him with a quick kiss on the cheek. "How's Y/n? I heard her grandmother passed away."
He explained the situation to her.
"So, she wonât be back until next week?" she asked, surprised. "Sheâll have a lot of classwork to catch up on."
"Yeah, I knowâŚâ he replied, not paying much attention to his sister.
Sohyun gave him a knowing look, but he didnât notice, his eyes still glued to his phone.
âThat explains why you look like that. You miss her already,â she teased.
He turned to her, frowning, and swallowed before answering, âJust a little.â
Sohyun laughed loudly, wrapping an arm around his head and patting his hair. âAw, my poor brother.â
Annoyed, he pulled away.
âYou guys are talking on the phone, right?â she pressed on.
âOf course. Whenever she doesnât have visitors to entertain and when she has signal connection.â He hadnât meant to sound bitter, but it slipped out, and Sohyun hugged him again.
âHave you met up with Jake and the others recently?â
He was confused by her question. Since when did his sister take an interest in his friends? âAbout three weeks ago, why?â
She shrugged. âI just think you should go out with them sometimes. Might keep you from being too⌠heartbrokenâI mean, bored.â
He scowled at his sister, "Cut it out. I'm not in love with her."
She just laughed at his obvious lie and gave his shoulder a pat. He thought he mightâve heard her murmur, "So defensive."
Before he could reply, she added, "Mom and Dad were asking about you, by the way. Thatâs why I came by. You can meet up with Jake and the others tomorrow instead. Come with me to see themâtheyâve been missing us. Shut down your computer, and letâs go visit them together so we can both get the âwhen are you getting marriedâ talk.â
Sunghoon agreed, feeling that he missed their parents too, along with the great food and warm, cheerful atmosphere at home.
"Please tell me you've found her, son."
They had just finished lunch togetherâa rare occasion now that both him and his sister had moved out. They really cherished these moments, and their mom had even prepared a special meal, complete with dessert. Now, he and his father were on the porch, enjoying coffee where it was shaded and cool even in the midday heat. Sunghoon watched his father thoughtfully. To him, his dad had always embodied gentle strength, integrity, and inner peace. He admired him deeply for his loyalty to family, especially to his mom. Sunghoon aspired to be like him, but it was one thing to say it and another to live it.
Just finding a woman he could love for life was already proving difficult.
He smiled at his father. "Almost there, Dad.â
His fatherâs eyes sparkled with warmth. "That's good to hear. Itâs better than your usual answer of ânot yet.â Thatâs progress." He gave him a meaningful look. "Have you met someone?"
Sunghoon hesitated, considering whether to mention you. Yes, you were different from anyone else heâd dated, but he didnât want to raise his dadâs hopesâor his own. It still felt like you both were just testing the waters.
It wasnât serious at all. It felt more like a casual friendship between him and you, an agreement to meet and get to know each other over twenty-five days. That was all there was to it. It was unrealistic to expect anything more.
Besides, he wasnât really in love with you. He liked you, cared about you, and enjoyed spending time together. He felt attracted to you; he lusted after you. That was it.
He shrugged. "Same old same, Dad. Just casual dates."
His father patted him on the shoulder. "You said itâs getting closer. Thatâs good enough for me. Just make sure to introduce her to us, okay?" Sunghoon nodded. "Your mom and I are getting older, and I really want to have a grandchild while I can still carry and chase one around."
The younger man took a sip of coffee from his mug. "You still have Sohyun, Dad."
"It seems more likely to happen if itâs you Iâm counting out on."
Sunghoon just smiled. He wondered if his sibling was also like him when it comes to this love thing, pretending to be indifferent but secretly searching for the kind of love their parents had found.
â
"I think Y/n would really like parasailing. We could go to the nearest beach here. She has a lot of lessons to make up for due to her absences. Can I have the contact number?"
They were able to meet up that evening after he returned from his parents' house. Sunghoon glanced up at Jake from his phone, waiting as he took his time dictating the numbers. He noticed his friends staring at him with amused expressions.
He furrowed his brow at them. âThe fuck is wrong with you guys?" he asked.
Jay grinned. "You."
Sunghoonâs frown deepened. "Huh?"
"Bro, we're hitting our favorite bar to catch up, talk, and have some drinks," Jay explained. "And if you used to look at these outings as opportunities to find your next date, now all you seem to talk about is 'Y/n this, Y/n that.' Damn, are you in love or something?" He laughed as if to annoy him.
And it indeed annoyed him.
"Did I say something wrong?" Sunghoonâs voice raised slightly.
They had been friends since college and were known as those typical playboys who would change their girlfriends faster then they would change clothes. Now, they were all married, leaving him as the only single one. They knew each other's quirks, but sometimes, small misunderstandings would crop up, especially when they shot him those odd looks.
"Relax, Hoon." Heeseung said. "Weâre just a bit thrown off by you, but youâre good. Go on and tell us more about this Y/n and how she brought some color to your otherwise dull and meaningless life." He added a dramatic hand gesture, as if performing a piece of poetry, and that made the guys laugh at their youngest.
Sunghoon scowled. âIâm not in love with her, okay? Whatâs wrong with you guys?"
"Bro, trust me. You sounded like you were just minutes away from marrying her earlier," Jay interjected. "Itâs like youâre just like us now. Everything you used to fight for, youâve completely forgotten."
He paused, his beer halfway to his lips. "What do you mean?"
"Hoon, to us, youâre the definition of a carefree and independent guy. Youâre just chill with your career, love life, and familyâenjoying everything without any pressure. You donât commit to anyone, so youâve been heartache-free all this time, right? You even take pride in your serial dating. You donât need a girl, and youâre not shedding any tears over them. Youâre single, and you love it. You were the man, Hoonâat least, you used to be," Heeseung explained. "But now, look at youâconstantly talking about your Y/n. You seem really attached to her, and you sound like a completely different person. Itâs like youâre in love."
He paused for a moment, trying to regain his composure. "Youâre just imagining things, Hyung."
His friend shook his head. "Thereâs nothing wrong with being in love, though. Weâre happy for you, of course. Weâre just a little surprised."
He forced a smile. "Fuck off. Iâm not in love." But even to his own ears, he sounded pathetic, which made him feel uneasy.
Day 18
"Well somebodyâs got a different glow today," Daehi commented, watching you in the mirror of the room you were using at your grandmotherâs house. It was the same room you used to stay in eight years ago, before you moved to Seoul for college.
You smiled at her. "Liar. Look at how huge my eyebags are."
Daehi moved to stand beside you at the vanity mirror, staring at both of your reflections. "Your eyes are sparkling, I swear. It's like youâre excited to go home or something." She grinned mischievously. "Maybe someoneâs waiting for you at the airport? Someone youâve missed a lot?" She even pinched your side, making you playfully frown at her.
"Look whoâs talkingâyouâre the one with a new guy," you teased, hinting at her frequent phone calls lately. "Whatâs his name again?"
"Yuno," she said, steering the conversation back to you. "And how are things with Hoon? Should I start addressing him as my brother-in-lawâ now?" she asked with a grin.
You shrugged nonchalantly, even though just hearing his name made your heart race. Ten days of only seeing him through your phone made you miss him even more. You couldnât wait to see, smell, and hold him again.
You sighed. "Same as always."
"Liar," your sister scoffed, rolling her eyes. "Come on, Ican see that sparkle in your eyes. Stop denying it."
You took a deep breath. "Daehi, what weâre doing is just a kind of experiment, not an actual relationship. Itâs for research. He just wants to prove heâs right, which is probably why heâs being a little flirty. And I canât let myself fall for someone who I know wonât reciprocate my feelings. That would be like walking straight into heartbreak. And Iâm not stupid.
Your sister's face wrinkled in thought. "Canât? Sis, I donât think anyone can decide not to fall in love. It just happens. Sometimes you realize it, but more often, it sneaks up on you⌠especially when you're busy denying it and convincing yourself itâs all just an experiment."
Her words made you uneasy, but you quickly thought of a comeback. "Oh, really? Since when did you become a love expert? Whose post did you steal that from? Send me the link; Iâll study it."
She rolled her eyes. "Oh, come on. You act like I do nothing but scroll online all day." A smirk spread on her face, hinting she was joking. "And for your information, it wasnât a post. It was a tweet from my favorite writer."
âYeah, sure.â You both laughed together.
After a moment, you glanced at your wristwatch. "What time are we leaving? The check-in line might be long."
"We're about to leave. We're just waiting for Jiwon. He was the one who wants to tag along, yet heâs taking his sweet time as if no one is waiting," Daehi complained. "So full of himself, too. Itâs annoying that heâs on our flight."
You chuckled; Jiwon lived just across the street and had been trying to win you over since high school. Now, he was a lawyer based in Seoul.
âJust let it go. His flirting is harmless, soâŚâ You shrugged.
âBut when you and Sunghoon break up next week, donât you dare give that arrogant guy a chance, okay? Heâs gross,â Daehi replied, making a face.
You stopped short, only registering the first part of her statement. Oh, right, today marks Day 18 of your ârelationshipâ with Sunghoon.
Seven days left before you part ways...
A heavy feeling settled in your chest.
â
"It's fine for us to just take a taxi, Jiwon," your father said to the playful puppy accompanying you toward the arrival area.
"No, I won't allow that. I'm sorry, Mr. Yoon. We have a car that can fit all of us and our luggage. Why would you want to commute? It's safer to know who will be driving you, right?"
You couldn't help but jump in. "We have someone picking us up, Won. Sorry." You turned to your parents while tucking your phone into your pocket, where you'd been speaking with your ride. "Sunghoon is waiting for us."
"Oh, good," your mother replied.
Your father beamed widely, and Daehi even clapped. It seemed like they all preferred Sunghoon over the lawyer.
As you stepped outside, an SUV pulled up right on cue. Sunghoon got out and greeted you with a broad smile.
"Welcome back," he said, moving to lift one of the suitcases into the car. You couldnât take your eyes off him; you really missed him. You were snapped back to reality when he approached you and, as usual, brushed a few strands of hair away from your face. "Ready to go?" he asked softly.
Only then did you realize that all your things were already loaded into the SUV, and your family was seated inside. You glanced back at Jiwon, who stood behind you with a frown.
"We'll head out first. Bye!" You climbed into the passenger seat next to Sunghoon.
As soon as you closed the door, your companions started chiming in, all complaining about the lawyer.
Luke couldnât help but smile. "You guys really donât like him, huh?"
They all chimed in with their complaints again.
The guy laughed outright. "He seemed fine when he introduced to me earlier." You were taken aback by that. Had the two guys already met while you were zoning out? Was he meaning to say that you stood there like a fool for a good few minutes?
"Well, maybe he was intimidated by you," your dad joked.
âOther than being a neighbor, what else is your connection to him, if you donât mind me asking?â Sunghoon asked.
âHeâs Y/nâs suitor since high school, and heâs still trying to win her over, even after getting rejected for at least ten times now.â
âDaehi,â you interjected, hoping to prevent any further comments.
âDonât worry, Sunghoon doesnât seem like the jealous type at all,â your mischievous little sister teased, laughing.
Your parents chuckled. You glanced at the guy mentioned; he just smiled, seemingly unfazed.
âHow was Busan, by the way?â you heard him ask your family in the car.
âIt was okay. Many people came to visit and mourned for Mama; itâs clear she was loved by many,â your mom replied. She wasnât teary-eyed anymore when talking about the elder, unlike during their early days in the province.
âMy condolences. I wanted to fly to Busan, butââ
âOh, thatâs really not necessary, Sunghoon. We know you care; youâve called us several times and even sent flowers, and thatâs enough. You donât need to travel all the way here. It would just be too much of a hassle for you,â your dad said with a smile.
âAnyway, whoâs up for some Korean barbecue and bibimbap?â Your mom and sister both raised their hands. You joined in. âWell, it looks like the majority wins, Hoon. I hope that works for you?â
âSounds great,â he replied, keeping his eyes on the road.
Soon enough, the others in the back began chatting among themselves. Sunghoon turned to you and flashed a smile. âHi,â he said it cutely, almost in a whisper so that only you could hear.â
âHello,â you answered.
âHow was Busan? Is it the breeze there that made you look even more stunning?â
You grinned at him. âYouâre still as flirty as ever,â you whispered back to keep it between the two of you. âBusan was alright. How about you? How have you been?â
âIâm alright. Itâs not like i almost died from how much Iâve missed you.â
"Good thing you managed to hold back your laughter, or else your family might have wondered about how loud you were. You discreetly pinched his arm.
"Youâre so infuriating," you whispered.
"I missed you,â he replied, earning a sweet smile from you.
â
Sunghoon looked at you while drying the dish you just rinsed. "Are you tired?"
He smiled, and despite your initial hesitation, you found yourself replying, "You've asked that question seven thousand three hundred seventy-eight times. No, Hoon. Iâm not tired," you laughed.
He playfully pinched your nose. "I'm just concerned since you just came back from a trip."
"Maybe I'm suffering from jet lag? Is that it?â you replied sarcastically while handing him the last plate.
He laughed, and the sound resonated with you. "How would I know? Maybe the time zone in Busan is different now," he quipped.
You watched as he finished drying the plate. "You might be the one who's tired. You drove, helped with the groceries, chopped ingredients while Mom and I were cooking, and now you're helping me wash the dishes."
They had snacked at a restaurant before stopping by the grocery store to pick up dinner items while still in his company.
After he finished, he looked at you with a serious expression on his handsome face.
âIâm just trying to find a reason to be close to you. I missed you, you know that already.â The excitement hit you unexpectedly, and even though you recognized how cheesy it sounded, you couldnât help but grin. âYou really have a way with those lines, donât you?â
He made a pout. âCome on, Yoon Y/n, what am I supposed to do with you?â Sunghoon took your hand and dried it with the hand towel resting on the kitchen counter. He also put some sanitizer on both your hands. His touch was gentle, as if your hands were fragile.
He slowly lifted one of your hands to his lips and kissed the back of it. You could feel warmth spread to his face, but you realized you werenât blushing. It felt like you were just staring at him, completely mesmerized.
With his other hand, he gently caressed your cheek. "Alright, I admit it. I missed you so much that I'm trying to make up for it now."
Your throat felt dry, and you swallowed hard. Without realizing it, you ran your tongue over your lower lip. You noticed that Sunghoon was watching your every move, and he let out a breath as he took in what you did Your knees felt weak when you saw the expression on his face; there seemed to be a fire in his eyes, and his jaw muscles tightened. He leaned closer to you, and your breathing quickened as the distance between you closed.
"God, Y/n," he murmured, almost breathlessly.
Your heart raced as you closed your eyes, waiting for what would happen next.
"Hey, Y/nâ,â
You both jumped at the sound of Daehi's voice. You pulled back from Sunghoon, releasing his hand and turning to look at your sister, your eyes wide with surprise.
Daehi paused for a moment, observing you both. After a beat, she broke into an apologetic smile. "Oh, Iâm sorry. I didnât know."
You felt your face heat up, but you pretended to act casual. "D-do you need something?"
Your sister's teasing gaze lingered on you. "Momâs looking for her tablet. Did she leave it with you?"
"Ah..." Goodness, your mind seemed to have tangled up, making it hard to think straight. "Yeah. It's in my handbag," you finally replied as your memory kicked in. "Hold on, I'll get it."
You didnât even glance at Sunghoon before leaving; you just werenât ready to meet his eyes yet. Shaking your head, you left the two of them behind and headed upstairs to your room, where your bag is located.
â
Sunghoon watched as you walked away to retrieve what your mom needed. He couldn't hide his happiness. The atmosphere in the Yoon household reminded him of his parents' home, and he found himself not wanting to return to his own apartment. He was aware that you could see how he acted like a clingy boyfriend who couldnât step away from you. Everything he said was genuine, and if he could, he would stay by your side until next week.
He heard Daehi giggling softly and turned to look at her. She was watching him with a playful smile.
"Youâre really smitten," she remarked, and she didnât seem offended by what she had just seen.
He smiled back but didnât argue with her.
"I can tell the feelings are mutual. Iâm really happy for you both. The more I see you together, the more convinced I am that youâre a perfect match."
Sunghoon chuckled. "Thanks, Daehi."
"Anytime, brother," she replied with a laugh. She gave him a light hug and playfully nudged him. "Letâs go wait for Y/n in the living room. Mom is already there."
Sunghoon spent hours chatting with your family about various topics while gradually feeling sleepy.
"What I've learned from this business is that life is short. No one is invincible to death, and no one can escape when their time is up," Mr. Yoon said. "I've heard so many stories from those who lost loved ones, regretting not having told them how much they loved them before it was too late."
"I still remember my first client, a twenty-one-year-old man who was about to graduate as the top of his class in just a month," you shared. "His mother was devastated because he was their hope. They were struggling; his mother was a seamstress, and his father was a plumber. Companies were already lined up to hire him upon graduation. But suddenly, while walking on their street, he was hit by a car driven by a drunk driver, and that was it." You shrugged. "All of his family's dreams went up in smoke. I can never forget that."
A moment of silence fell over the group as everyone absorbed the gravity of what they had just heard.
"And we must also remember that we can't take any material possessions with us when we die," your mom chimed in. "That's why I always remind Y/n about this."
"Mom," you said with a calm tone, widening your eyes slightly, as if already guessing what she was about to say.
"She doesnât need to keep studying, working, and building up wealth," your mom continued as though she hadnât heard you. "She canât take her diplomas or money to the grave. What he should really focus on is finding a life partner."
Sunghoon chuckled as you groaned, hiding your face. "Mom, pleaseâŚ"
"What? Am I wrong?" she protested. "Look at you, you treat dating like itâs just another adventure. Itâs a good thing you met her, dear," she said, turning to Sunghoon. "At least I know thereâs someone decent whoâll care for him if something happens to us."
"Mom, you and Dad are still young. You're not going anywhere," you objected. "And Iâm only twenty-fiveâthereâs no need to rush.â
Amused by how cute you looked, Sunghoon couldnât resist pinching your cheek.
"When I was your age, I already had two kids," your mom remarked, glancing at your dad, who had his eyes closed. She sighed. "Alright, Iâm heading upstairs. It looks like your dadâs already out for the night."
âIâm still awake,â your dad mumbled.
âOh, come on, itâs time to get to bed,â your mom said as she stood to give Sunghoon a quick hug. âWeâll leave you two now, dear. Thanks for picking us up at the airport and spending the day with us. Make sure to come back more often, alright? Good night!â She turned to your dad. âCome on.â
Your dad gave Sunghoon a smile as they walked toward the stairs. âLeaving you in the care of my two girls, Sunghoon. Iâm ready to call it a night.â
âNo problem, sir,â he replied.
âIâll head up, tooâYunoâs calling me,â Daehi added, giving you both a quick peck on the cheek. âIâll leave you two love birds alone. Enjoy!â
Now, it was just the two of you. Sunghoon looked at you. âAre you tired?â
âDo you want to head home?â you asked back.
Honestly, heâd prefer to just stay here if he could. But he shook his head. âIf youâre not tired yet, Iâd like to stay. Just kick me out when youâre ready to call it a night.â
You smiled. âLetâs hold off for a bit, then.â
âAlright, letâs talk.â He moved a bit closer, gently taking your hand.
âYou know, I think I live by the same âlife is shortâ motto your parents mentioned. I get that life is brief, so Iâd rather make the most of it. No sense in wasting it on worries.â
Absentmindedly, you played with your entwined hands. "For me, life is indeed short, but itâs also an adventure. Itâs brief, so Iâm reaching for all my dreams while I still can⌠while thereâs still time."
He turned to face you. âYour fatherâs right. We should tell people how we feel while we still have time,â he said, making you pause, eyes widening. âSo let me say this: I missed you, Y/n.â
Some emotion flickered across your face before you smiled. Was that disappointment? âI missed you, too.â
Sunghoon gazed at you, taking in your features. Your face looked radiant in any light, your smile bright, eyes sparkling. Your heart pounded in your chest, a fluttery feeling rising in your stomach.
He cleared his throat, as if heâd just decided something. âAnd because life is short,â he said in a low voice, âIâm going to take this chance while I still can.â He gently cupped your face and leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to your lips.
He had expected you to pull away, maybe even push him back, but your reaction surprised him. You kissed him back, your lips moving perfectly in sync with his.
Sunghoonâs knees nearly buckled, as if all his strength had drained away. He leaned in, deepening the kiss, and you allowed him without a second thought, matching his every move. He let out a soft, deep sound. You tasted faintly of the creamy coffee you'd had earlier⌠and something sweet he couldnât quite place. Your lips were incredibly soft, and the smoothness of your cheek beneath his fingers only heightened the experience.
If only he had known it would feel like this, he would have done it on the very first day you both met.
Reluctantly, he broke the kiss and opened his eyes to look at you. Your eyes were still closed, lips slightly parted, as if you were waiting for more. And who was he to say no? He leaned in again, kissing you once more. It took him a moment longer before he finally managed to pull away.
He rested his forehead against yours. "I think it's time for me to go," he said, still catching his breath.
"Wait, what?" you replied, a bit stunned as you pulled back to look into his eyes. "I thoughtâ"
"If I don't head out now, I might just do something impulsive," he said with a knowing smile.
Your eyes widened, and though he couldnât see the blush, he felt the warmth radiate from your cheeks through his hands.
He pressed a firm kiss to your forehead before reluctantly stepping back and getting to his feet.
Day 19
"Tough luck, huh?â you said as the rain suddenly poured down while you both were on your way to Incheon.
The night before, you had walked Sunghoon to his carâŚ.
â
As he opened the door, he smiled at you. "Iâll see you tomorrow. Letâs go out."
You hesitated. "Iâve got a research paper I need to finish. Itâs a special project my professor assigned as a substitute for the exams I missed last week."
He paused for a moment, thinking, then grinned. "Alright, how about we just go to a nearby beach? Maybe Eurwangni, near Incheon. You can work on your paper by the shore, and Iâll even help you out. Sound good?"
You smiled, endeared by his persistent charm.
"Alright, fine. See you then."
With a final kiss on your lips, he got into his car, leaving you with a smile as he drove off.
â
And now, here you were. The rain poured down like a storm, with strong winds accompanying it, prompting him to turn on the radio. It was then that you both found out a typhoon was on the way.
"Hmm, is this a sign that we should just go back and cuddle instead?" Sunghoon joked, grinning at you.
At the twinkle in your eyes, your cheeks flushed, and your imagination raced with various scenarios of Sunghoon lying in bed with you. You mentally scolded yourself; you had been like this since last night, with all sorts of thoughts suddenly surfacingâsome of them rather steamy. It was partly his fault, too. That kiss he had given you before you parted ways had stirred up those thoughts. You had barely slept for two hours because of it.
Now, sitting beside him, your awareness of his presence felt intensified, as if the warmth radiating from your body was reaching out to him.
Your mouth felt dry, and your heart raced every time your eyes met his. Youâd rather not think about the sensations stirring between your thighs.
This is getting out of hand.
"Y/n?" You felt Sunghoonâs gentle finger tapping your cheek. "Are you okay?"
You met his gaze while pretending not to notice the familiar sensations you were experiencing.
"Huh?" you replied, a little flustered. "Y-you were saying something?"
He furrowed his brow but didnât comment on your odd behavior. "I was saying, do you want to work on your research at my place? Itâs closer than heading back to your house. I think by this afternoon the storm will have passed, and the rain wonât be as heavy."
You couldn't answer right away. You knew that the guy lived alone, which meant you would have the place to yourselves. Plus, the weather was chilly because of the storm.
And there goes your naughty imagination once again...
You shut your eyes, trying to control your feelings.
"But if you're not comfortable, we can just go back to your place," Sunghoon said.
"W-we might get stranded on the road. Letâs just go to your pad. You can drop me off later when the rain eases up. Iâll just call my mom so she won't worry.
"Alright then,â
You nodded in response. And just within a few minutes later, you finally arrived at his place and started drying off. You had gotten a little wet from the rain when you exited the car.
âHere, wear this while we dry your clothes,â he said, handing you a towel along with a white t-shirt and boxer shorts. Which you gladly took from him.
âThanks,â you replied. âIs it okay if I go to the bathroom first?â
âOf course, go ahead.â
The bathroom was clean and featured a modern, minimalist design that was just right for a young man like Sunghoon. You quickly dried off and changed into the clothes. The t-shirt was quite big, but the fabric felt comfortable against you.
When you stepped out, you saw Sunghoon in the kitchen, checking what was inside the refrigerator.
âIs there anything to eat in there?â you asked.
He turned to face you, and a look of appreciation lit up his eyes when he saw you. âWow! That looks great on you,â he said, gesturing toward the clothes you were wearing.
Feeling a bit self-conscious, you glanced down. âThe fabric feels really nice. Can I just keep this shirt?â
âSure, go ahead,â he replied, then added quietly, âYou've been taking my sanity since day one, anyway, so what's a shirt?â
You lifted your head, surprised by his comment. âWhat was that?â
He shook his head and quickly changed the topic. âI have ingredients for kimchi jjigae here, minus the tofu. Is that okay with you? Or would you rather order lunch instead?
âYou can really cook?â you asked as you moved closer to look inside the refrigerator.
He took out a bag of kimchi and set it in a bowl. "Well, I havenât experienced being confined to the hospital because of my cookingâat least, not yet." he said with a shrug and a smile. âI wanted to impress you and make something fancy, but this is all I have in my fridge.â
âWow!â you laughed. âItâs fine, thereâs always a next time. You can impress me another day.â
You were about to step beside him to help when you remembered your research project. âOh, sorry. Iâd love to help, but I just remembered my research.â
âItâs alright.â He gave you a light kiss on the top of your head and began slicing the green onions. âGo on, get to it. Iâll call you when the foodâs ready.â
For the next few minutes, the two of you focused on your own tasks while the rain continued to pour outside. Every now and then, youâd steal a glance at him, amused by how absorbed he was in his cooking when a knock on the door interrupted both of you.
âIâll get it,â Sunghoon said, quickly moving to open the door ahead of you.
âHoonie, I really need your help!â came an overly dramatic painful in the ear voice.
âYuri!â he said, surprised. âWhatâs wrong?â
You watched them curiously from a distance.
âThereâs something making a creaking noise on my roof, and youâre the only person I feel close to here,â she said, grabbing onto his arm. She was wearing shorts so short they looked like underwear and a tight shirt that hugged her noticeably full chest. âCould you take a quick look? Iâm worried it might blow away with this storm. Is that okay?â
Sunghoon looked back at you with a questioning expression.
âOh, you have company,â she said, waving at you in an overly friendly manner. âSorry about that! Iâm Yuri, Hoonieâs neighbor and friend.â
"Hi, Iâm Y/n," you replied with a polite smile.
"Is it okay if I borrow him for a bit? I really need his help," she said in that same high-pitched tone that was beginning to grate on your nerves. So, you just nodded quickly, "No problem." Then you looked over at Sunghoon and smiled. "Iâll keep an eye on your cooking too.â
âIâll be right back!â Hoon had said before being pulled away by the woman, whose presence somehow left you feeling a bit annoyed.
It wasnât that you had any issues with women who dress a bit provocativelyâitâs their choice. But there was just something about this one that got under your skin. She seemed to have a flirtatious edge in everything she did and said. And yes, even the way she dressed felt like it was designed to grab Hoonâs attention.
Youâre overthinking things, Y/nâŚ
You told yourself.
Still, you couldnât shake off the sense that, if Sunghoon were to start dating someone else after youâre done with this 25-day dating thing you had with him, Yuri would be the first to jump at the chance.
You pushed away the negative feelings and stood up from the couch to check on Hoonâs cooking. Everything was simmering nicely, with the heat on low to keep things from overcooking. You also noticed the rice cooker was on, and it looked like he had started preparing dessertâgiven the slices of fruits he had set aside along with a can of Sprite. Impressive for someone you considered your âpseudoâ date; he wasnât just all handsome but also knew his way around the kitchen. Whoever ends up marrying that guy will be damn heck of a lucky woman.
You went ahead and continued setting up lunch.
Just as you finished, the door opened, and Sunghoon stepped inside, shirtless and soaked from the rain.
What a comboâŚ
You quickly ran to grab the towel he had used earlier and handed it to him. "What happened to you?" you asked, feeling your breath hitch as you took him in.
Your eyes couldn't help but wander over his bare form, dressed now in only his shorts. His body was lean and muscular, his skin glistening with rainwater. He looked hard everywhereâfrom the sharp lines of his jawline to his shoulders, pecs, arms, and absâŚ
Honestly, just looking at his torso made you feel full. Lunch suddenly felt optional.
You decided not to let your gaze drift any lower from his abs; no need to find anything else that might be, well⌠hard.
"Sorry, I took a while. Turns out there was more to fix on Yuriâs roof than I expected." Without seeming to notice your gaze, he handed you his wet shirt and began drying himself off. "Are you hungry?"
Then he looked at you, really looked at you, and there it wasâthe realization. His smile faded, and a spark ignited in his eyes as he noticed the effect he was having on you.
You swallowed unconsciously, feeling your breath hitch. He mustâve seen a different kind of hunger in your eyesâprobably noticed that your hands were itching to touch his chest, his abs, his arms. Your heart pounded even harder as he took a slow, deliberate step toward you. Your knees practically turned to jelly under the weight of his intense, half-lidded gaze.
He raised a hand, lightly brushing his thumb across your cheek. But before you could even react, he brought his thumb to his lips, tasting whatever he had wiped away from your face.
"Condensed milk? What kind of dessert are you making?" His tone was casual, but his gaze burned as it lingered on you.
JerkâŚ
"Uh..." You swallowed, trying to keep your composure. "Itâs⌠itâs nothing. You can try it later."
"Canât wait," he murmured, though the way he looked at your lips suggested he had something else in mind heâd like to taste. "Iâm gonna go shower again."
He left, and you finally let out a breath. It was only then you realized the wet shirt in your hands was now soaking your legs. With a sigh, you went to the laundry area to dry it up.
When Sunghoon returned, he mentioned feeling cold, which was obvious given he was wrapped up in a thick sweatshirt and jogging pants. Having a meal together and some hot soup seemed to help him feel a bit better, and he really enjoyed the hwachae dessert youâd made.
But soon enough, he was back to feeling unwell, lying on the couch next to you under a heavy blanket. Youâd already given him some medicine for the flu.
Gently, you ran your fingers through his hair. "Why didnât that Yuri just call a carpenter?" you muttered irritably. "Now lookâyouâre sick because of her."
"She couldnât get a carpenter out there in this storm," he replied, voice slightly hoarse.
"Thatâs exactly my point! Itâs storming, and she still had you go up on the roof! What if a lightning struck you?â you scolded.
Sunghoon opened his eyes, giving you a playful smile. âI donât think it was her intention to get me hurt or sick. I think she just wanted to see me soaked, with my shirt sticking to me. I even took it off for her sake. Poor girlâs been trying so hard with her charms.â
You playfully tugged his hair. âYouâre such a flirt. You knew exactly what she was doing, yet you still played along.â
He chuckled. âIâve made it pretty clear to Yuri in plenty of ways that Iâm not interested. She just doesnât give up, so I let it go.â You felt a hint of satisfaction at that, though you tried not to show it. âBut why not? Sheâs beautiful, has smooth skin, and, well⌠sheâs got curves.â
He gave a subtle, meaningful smile. âIâm a lot more drawn to a certain sexy embalmer.â
Your cheeks warmed, leaving you momentarily speechless.
"Just let me know if you want to go home. I can still give you a ride," he murmured, his gaze soft on you.
You shook your head as you finished packing up your laptop. "No, Hoon. I donât want you taking any risks.â
âNo, really, Iâll drive you.â
âShould I call Sohyun? Maybe she can come over so youâre not alone.â You remembered Sohyun lived nearby.
He closed his eyes, looking a bit sleepy. âSheâs out of town with her fellow teachers. She wonât be back until next week.â
âOh, right,â you said. âI called home earlier, and Mom warned sheâd shave my head if I left you here alone while youâre still unwell.â
âReally?â He let out a soft laugh. âDonât tell me you two are already planning on trapping me into marriage?â
âWow, the ego,â you chuckled as he shifted closer until his head rested in your lap. âIâd be up for it⌠just not when Iâm this defenseless.â He took your hand and held it to his cheek. âJust wait until the medicine kicks in, then Iâll give you my full cooperation with the whole marriage plot.â He closed his eyes, finally settling in.
You chuckled softly. "You're really something."
For a few moments, you let yourself simply stare at his face as he lay there, eyes closed, resting his cheek in the warmth of your hand. A soft smile appeared on your lips. There was a sense of peace within you. You felt content, happy to be someone he neededâeven if just for now, even if only for today. But that happiness was tinged with sadness, knowing youâd have to step back soon, and someone else might take your place, offering the comfort you could only give for a limited time.
That thought settled heavily in your heart, bringing a quiet ache you were already feeling now.

Day 20
Sunghoon woke up in the early hours feeling significantly better. And his mood lifted even more when he opened his eyes to find your face inches from his, both of you tucked together tightly on the sofa. The air was still chilly from the rain that drizzled outside, quieter now than the night before.
"Go back to sleep, it's only a little past two," you murmured, brushing a hand gently over his hair.
He furrowed his brow, hearing a slight edge in your tone, and his eyes searched yours more closely. "Have you been crying?" he asked, concerned.
You shook your head with a faint smile, but that didnât ease the worry in his gaze. Something felt off. He started to rise, wanting to get a better look at you, but your hands held his face tenderly.
âYour feverâs gone. How are you feeling?â you asked, your voice soft.
He took a moment to assess himself. "Better. Thank you for staying with me."
You smiled before pulling his face down, kissing him. The moment his lips met yours, his body reacted instinctively. He could feel heat spreading through him. You deepened the kiss, your lips brushing softly against his, until he parted his mouth and your tongue slipped in, drawing a groan from him. Sparks seemed to ignite along every nerve.
You shifted to pull him closer, one of your hands roaming under his sweatshirt, skimming over his chest with warm, gentle strokes that had his breath hitching. He was overwhelmed by the softness of your touch.
He pulled back, panting, trying to regain control, but you just trailed your lips down his jaw and to his neck. "We need to stop," he whispered, though his hands betrayed him, tracing down your back and sides. You felt so warm beneath his touch, every inch of him aching to feel more.
"Sunghoon..." you murmured, lifting the edge of his sweatshirt. "Please."
He finally gave in to you and himself. He reached for your face and kissed you again on the lips. Every movement was heated, and it felt like there was something he wanted to say. He pulled away slightly from your lips. You groaned, protesting.
âY/N, donât do this, baby, please. I might do something weâll both regret.â He nuzzled your neck and gave it a playful lick. You bit your lower lip, but a moan still escaped as you arched your back, giving him space for what he was doing.
Breathless, he lowered his head and traced your collarbone with his lips and tongue, moving back to your neck and jaw. You moaned aloud.
And shit, he was aroused like he had never felt before. And it had only been a few kisses that you shared in that moment.
âY/NâŚâ he whispered in your ear before giving it a small bite. âTell me to stop. Please.â He needed you to refuse, to push him away and act uninterested. But your reaction was the opposite. You were responsive, so sweet, so soft and warm...
You reached for both sides of his head and gazed at him from beneath your heavy eyelids. âI wonât regret anything, I promise,â you murmured, caressing his lips. âPlease, Sunghoon. I need this. I need you. Kiss me.â
The throaty quality in your voice did it. Or maybe it was your soft, fragrant body splayed over him. Or the hazy desire in your eyes. Or your scent. Maybe it was your zeal despite the innocence in your kisses. It could also be everything about you.
The rain continued to pour outside, but neither of you felt cold.
Sunghoon moved to stand up, quickly carrying you to his room. He kissed you on the lips and allowed the two of you to tumble onto the bed. You bumped into each other a bit and burst into laughter. But your smiles faded when you locked eyes. He caressed your cheek. âAre you sure you know what weâre going to do?â
You rolled your eyes and punched him in the arm. âWhat do you think I am, five?â
You laughed, but it sounded differentâtense, full of desire that was desperately trying to escape you. âIâm just making sure. Are you really sure about this? You can still back out. Just say the word anytime.â
You looked at him, a soft, heart-wrenching emotion in your eyes. âIâm sure. Stop being annoying. I want this. I want to be yours tonight. I want to make love with you.â
It was like gasoline that ignited the fire within him even more. His knees shook, and his heart raced.
âOh, God,â he said, almost moaning.
He was sure he did not do anything to deserve this.
â
A spark lit up in Sunghoon's eyes when he heard you. Then, he was on youâkissing your lips, your neck, your jaw; his hands roaming, pressing against your chest over the fabric of your shirt, gripping your waist and hips. Neither of you even remembered the storm raging outside. You were both too lost in the heat you were creating, the passion between the two of you.
He tugged at the bottom of your shirt. "Let's take this off. I want to see you." You sat up, helping him lift it off, along with your bra.
Lying back down, you bit your lip, but couldn't suppress the soft, inviting sound that slipped from your throat as he traced his hand down from your neck to your stomach, stopping at the waistband of your shorts. He slipped them off, gazing at you with a searing look. âOh, God,â he murmured, breathless. âYouâre beautiful.â
Your back arched instinctively under his heated gaze, an involuntary response. âSunghoonâŚâ
Feeling your urgency, he reached behind his neck, pulling his sweatshirt over his head.
He stood up, removing his joggers and boxers, then reached into a drawer, grabbing a foil packet and placing it on the side table
The bed creaked as he lay back down on his side, cupping your face to kiss you again. You let your hands drop to caress his chest and shoulders. He felt hot and firm everywhere, making every feminine part of you tremble in anticipation. He kneaded your breast, taking one peak into his mouth, and your body shuddered as you moaned his name. It felt like every inch of you was vibrating, heating up. You cradled his head to pull him closer as he teasingly slid his tongue over the skin of your breast before taking the other stiff peak into his mouth.
Good lord, you werenât prepared for this.
It was too... divine.
You gasped when you felt his other hand exploring between your thighs, where you were wet and eager. You tried to squeeze your thighs together, but he gently pushed them apart. Then he was touching your most intimate area, sliding a finger along your drenched slit.
âOh, my God, SunghoonâŚâ you called out, unable to explain what you were feeling. It was as if you were about to melt or explode.
âSo sweet, so soft. I want to lick you all over,â he murmured in your ear. He kissed you passionately as his hand continued to move.
You tore your mouth away from his and moaned loudly as you felt his finger gently slipping inside you. Your body moved on its own, trembling with pleasure. âOh fuckâŚâ
Breathless, he lowered his head back to your chest. He captured one peak and lightly bit it, causing a low shout to escape your lips. Then, his hand moved faster, and every muscle in your body tensed at the delicious sensation.
Your eyes widened as you stared at Sunghoonâs face, watching him with a hot, serious expression. He looked so fucking hot. And this same gorgeous man was touching you intimately... and he seemed to be enjoying it.
âFuck, Sunghoon!â you called out.
âYes,â he whispered, his gaze locked onto you, his jaw clenched as he held back his own desires. You let go, your mouth opening in a silent gasp, but no sound came out. Your entire body trembled in fulfillment.
Before you could recover, Sunghoon kissed you hotly. His hands moved to put on what was needed to protect you both. He was determined to take you completely. He kissed you passionately while gently making his entrance, and the pleasure-pain brought tears to your eyes.
âYou okay, baby?â he asked, stopping immediately. There was a sense of pride in his voice, knowing he was the first person you had completely surrendered to. âCan you handle more?â
âW-wait,â you replied, filled with emotion. This was the moment. You had fully given yourself to Sunghoon.
âYou feel so good,â he said, showering your face and neck with kisses. âItâs never felt like this before.â His lips trailed down to your chest, kissing you before you could even respond. Your muscles twitched, and beads of sweat formed on your skin. Then, you felt him nibbling at your flesh.
You called his name in a breathy whisper.
He groaned and took one of your stiff peaks into his warm mouth. A long moan escaped you as your body arched, matching the way your internal muscles squeezed around him. Sunghoon let out a loud groan. âShit, Y/n! Donât! Youâre driving me crazy,â he exclaimed, feeling himself stiffen against you, struggling to maintain control.
âSunghoon,â you called out, unsure of what to say. âJust get on with it!â
Despite the slick sweat and the effort it took to move, he chuckled. âSo bossy,â he teased in a raspy voice. You smiled, but it quickly vanished as he moved slowly inside you, showering your chest with kisses while whispering your name.
Breathless, you tightened your legs around his waist. You shuddered with each movement he made, letting out sounds you would usually find embarrassing, but right now, you didnât care. Sunghoon let out a low, rough breath, and you thought the sound was incredibly sexy. Desperately, you called his name, almost begging him to give you what you neededâand he did.
Your hands clung tightly to his shoulders, your muscles tensing as you finally reached your peak. Colors exploded behind your closed eyelids, warmth spreading through every fiber of your being. He kept moving for a few more moments, then reached his own climax. Catching your breath and covered in sweat, you slowly returned to reality.
When you opened your eyes, you were greeted by Sunghoonâs smiling face. âAh, Y/n. Youâre going to be the death of me.â
âThat was amazing,â you murmured with a smile.
Something about your words must have ignited something in him because you saw the fire in his eyes reignite. Your eyes widened as you felt him begin to harden again inside you.
âFuck, Y/nâŚâ he whispered, before covering your mouth with his in a deep kiss, not giving you a chance to say anything else.
â
It was nearly noon when Sunghoon woke up, hours later than usual. The first thing he did was reach over, searching for you beside him. But when his hand touched only mattress and blankets, his eyes flew open. You were nowhere to be found.
Panic rising, he got up quickly and checked the bathroom. Empty.
He stepped out of the room. âY/n?â he called, but there was no sign of you in the kitchen or the living room. Even your bag and laptop was gone. Grabbing his phone, he dialed your number, but no one answered.
It was Sundayâmaybe you were attending church and had your phone on silent, which would explain why you hadnât noticed his calls. With a sigh, he set his phone aside and went back to the bedroom. Youâd probably left early to ease your parentsâ concerns. He decided heâd just drop by your house later to invite you to dinner. For now, he needed to focus on his work, confident that heâd see you soon. Just a little more patience.
All day, Sunghoon kept trying to reach you with calls and texts, but there was still no answer. He thought maybe it was a network issue or perhaps your phone had run out of battery.
Either way, he reassured himself heâd see you soon.
With anticipation, he showered, dressed carefully, and bought a bouquet of roses matching the color of the dress you wore when you first met, along with your favorite chocolates. While in traffic, he called a nice restaurant to reserve a table for two.
Tonight, he was going to ask you to date him exclusively, officially. He figured you might be taken aback, but heâd explain that he didnât want any time limits on being with you anymore. Excitement filled himâuntil it quickly turned to worry when he arrived at your house, and you werenât there. Your mom told him youâd gone out of town but didnât say where.
Sunghoon tried to stay calm, reasoning that youâd return soon. You had school, and it was too early for you to miss more days, especially since youâd just come back from Busan.
Yet a deep, sudden fear settled inside him.
âââ
Day 24
âSomething othering you?â Sohyun called out as she approached Sunghoon from behind.
Sunghoon saved his work and turned to look at his twin.
âI didnât hear you come in.â
âYouâre being way too serious over there.â She came closer to check out the drawing of a woman for his current erotica book project. âThatâs cute! Whatâs the title?â
âThe Ethical Manwhore. Itâs your typical plotâ the main character is a player who meets a naive girl and falls in love with her.â
Sohyunâs eyes lit up. âThat actually sounds interesting since heâs described as ethicalâmeaning he has some standards. Let me know when itâs out; I want to buy a copy.â
In a way, his sister's banters lightened the weight he was feeling.
âI brought you a little something; you and Y/n can share it.â And just like that, his small joy vanished into thin air.
âT-thanks,â Sunghoon replied with a smile. But if his sister werenât so perceptive, she wouldnât have noticed that his smile was forced. They were too close, i meanâtheyâre practically twins, for her to miss that.
âYou look troubled. Is something wrong?â He turned to face his computer, trying to avoid her gaze.
âJust stressed about work.â
She didnât respond, and he heard her walk over to the sofa, her favorite spot facing him.
âHowâs Y/n?â
There it wasâthe question he had been dreading to answer. He shrugged.
âDid something happen?â
He hesitated before answering, âI donât know,â he cleared his throat before he continued, âI havenât seen her in four days. She might have gone out of town.â
âReally?â Sohyun went silent. When he glanced over her, she was already busy with her phone. With a sigh, he returned to his work from the previous days; that was all his life revolved aroundâhis work and trying to contact you. He had nearly given up on the latter yesterday because he felt like a fool.
He had visited the Yoon house several times but never caught you at home. According to your mom, you were busy with a group project, which is why you were always away. He couldnât even count how many texts he had sent you or how many times he called. He knew you were a free spirit and loved to be spontaneous, traveling everywhere, but if he meant something to you, couldnât you at least send a reply?
Sunghoon was feeling frustrated, sad, and worried. He was missing you badly.
âOh, wait. Seems like sheâs in Jeju,â Sohyun suddenly said, interrupting his thoughts. âSomeone tagged her on IG.â She was about to show him the phone when she quickly pulled it away. âOh, waitânever mind. Mustâve overlooked it.â
His brow furrowed. âWhat was that? Let me see.â
âForget it,â his sister said, keeping the phone out of reach.
âCome on, Sohyun! I just want to see.â He reached for her hand, but she dodged him and stood up from the sofa.
âForget it, Sunghoon!â
âSohyun, please just let me see,â he urged. He didnât have an Instagram account, so he couldnât check it himself.
âSunghoon, stop it! Itâs not for you to look at.â Her tone reminded him of their childhood when their parents would cover their eyes during romantic scenes in movies. Especially when it involved kissing. This only made him more curious. âWhy not? What is it?â They engaged in a playful tug-of-war over the phone.
But since he was taller and stronger, he managed to overpower her. He shot her a glare and glanced at the screen, where he saw a picture of you in a black bikini top and denim shorts, holding a surfboard, with a picturesque backdrop of sand, sea, and sky⌠and Jiwon beside you with his arm wrapped around your shoulder.
It has as caption that says,
Learning surfing is way more fun when your instructor is this gorgeous. đŠ
And below it was a mention,
my @yo.on_y/n đ
Which the post received at least a thousand likes and numerous teasing comments. He checked the date of the postâit was from Sunday, the day he had started losing contact with you.
Frustrated, he handed the phone back to his sister.
âI told you not to look at it,â she said.
Without responding, he left her on the sofa and turned his attention back to his computer.
âYour twenty-five days together are over, right?â she said after a moment. âSo, youâre probably not jealous that sheâs with someone else, right?â
Sunghoon closed his eyes to keep himself from snapping at his sister. He was starting to take back what he said about her being perceptive when it came to him; clearly, that wasnât true.
âJiwonâs fine, though. Iâve met him, actually. Heâs mature, not commitment-phonic, and heâs liked Y/n for a long timeâsince high schoolâ.â
âYeah, Iâm thrilled for them. Excuse me, but I have a work to finish.â He put his earbuds in and turned up a loud song to drown out anything else his sister might say.
âThereâs some leftover ramen in the fridge. Just heat it up if youâre hungry,â he added.
â
Sunghoon stood up from the sofa when the door of your house opened, and you stepped inside. Heâd been coming by every afternoon for days, waiting for a chance to see you, and finally, heâd caught you.
You were dressed in a plain t-shirt, denim shorts, sneakers, and carried a large backpack. The surprise was clear on your face as you saw him. âOh, hi,â you greeted him.
âThe tan suits you,â he managed to say. âHow was Jeju?â
âIt was okay.â You set your bag down on the coffee table, keeping your eyes lowered. He could almost see you struggling to find the right words.
He wanted to confront you. Was group project for now a code for surfing in Jeju with a guy thatâs pursuing you? or worse, dating you? how the fuck would he know?
âCan we talk?â he asked.
You looked at him for a moment.
âLetâs go to the cafĂŠ nearby,â you finally agreed. âIâll just tell Mom.â
You went to the kitchen, where your mother was preparing a snack for you. Sunghoon took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. He couldnât explain his feelingsânervous and tense, as if something was squeezing his chest and throat, making it hard to breathe. He was beyond anxious.
Soon, you returned without changing or even freshening up.
âLetâs go,â you said, avoiding his gaze.
The short drive to the cafĂŠ was silent. You only spoke once you were seated with your drinks, exchanging an awkward greeting. You mentioned that you had returned from Jeju since Monday and had just come from a groupmateâs house to work on a project.
He only gave a slight nod in response.
It felt as though you two had turned back into strangers, and for Sunghoon, it was like a knife piercing his heart.
âS-so,â you eventually spoke up, breaking the awkward silence, âwas there something we needed to talk about?â
Something burst within him, and he couldnât hold back the bitterness any longer. âWell, I thought youâd at least have the decency to break things off with me properly,â he said.
You flinched as if heâd struck you, then gave him a bitter smile. âDo we really need an official ending? Isnât it automatic after the twenty-five days are up?â
âItâs not twenty-five days yet, Y/n. Do you need a calendar? Weâre only on Day 24.â
You let out a dry laugh. âOh, so weâre supposed to break up tomorrow? Sorry, I guess I lost track on my counting.â
Sunghoon felt his frustration rise at your tone. Why were you being sarcastic? Why did it feel like you were the one whoâs upset here?
âYou left me after Day 20. You owe me four more days. You need to date me for those four days.â He knew he sounded childish, but he didnât know how else to bridge the gap between you two. You might think heâd lost his mind by now, but he didnât care.
âWhat?â you laughed, clearly confused. âSunghoon, those are just the technicalities. We were going to break up anyway; that was already decided. What difference does it make if itâs Day 20 or Day 2? We would still end up breaking up.â You suddenly stood up, and he instinctively grabbed your arm before you could leave.
âNo, Y/n, we canât just end it like this.â
âWhatâs wrong with you?â you snapped, then, realizing you were in public, you lowered your voice. âFine. You want a proper breakup? Here it isâIâm officially breaking up with you, Park Sunghoon. Goodbye.â You yanked your arm from his grip and walked out without a backward glance. He was stunned as he watched you leave the cafĂŠ. He frustratedly slammed his clenched fist onto the table.
He knew heâd said something wrong. He was sure of itâŚ.

Chasing Cars, Snow Patrol
âââââ
Sunday, January 20thÂ
You wake up with a start, heart beating out of your chest. It takes you a moment to collect yourself until you realize that you were actually woken up by a sound. It takes you a moment longer before you understand that the sound is Jungkook cursing.
You frown, glancing towards his wall in the hopes that heâll shut up, and itâs almost like he hears you: he dwindles into silence after a few seconds, and youâre stuck wondering why he was cursing like that in the first place. You donât think youâll have the answer anytime soon, so you lie back down â when did you even sit up?
You shut your eyes, though it seems sleep will evade you again. Indeed, your focus is zeroed in on the sounds coming from Jungkookâs room, probably of him getting ready for work. It also makes you realize that you really do need to go to the bathroom, so you decide to head there before actually going back to sleep.
You get out of the bathroom in time with Jungkook getting out of his room, and he stops in the doorway, eyes widening as he watches you across the living room. Youâre only wearing an oversized sweater, and you donât miss the way his gaze dips to your legs once before returning to your face.
Only then does he break into a smirk, leaning against the door as he folds his arms on his chest. âLong night?â he asks teasingly.
You know youâve flushed red when he chuckles darkly. âNot really, no,â you choke out.
âYouâre cute when you blush, peach,â he jokes, glancing towards your room. âHeâs still in there?â
You donât know if itâs because of the way your face falls, but Jungkookâs smirk dies down, concern moving on his features instead. You hate it, so you quickly say, âHe left last night, you didnât hear?â
His tongue plays with his piercing for a moment. âNot gonna lie, I put earbuds in the moment I started hearing you guys.â
Your blush deepens, and youâd facepalm if the gesture in and of itself wasnât so embarrassing. Instead, you look away from him, glancing at the front door as you replay Hoseok leaving in your mind. âSorry,â you apologize.
You donât even know what for. Your goal was to make Jungkook uncomfortable, so why do you feel like shit now that heâs talking to you about it?
âItâs fine,â he says, pushing up from the door frame as he walks towards the kitchen. âThough I didnât think you were like that, peach.â
You furrow your brows, and you canât help but follow him into the kitchen. âWhat do you mean?â
Heâs got his head in the fridge, and he straightens, holding a protein shake in his hands. He takes a sip of it, eyes finding yours, before wiping his mouth with the back of his hand as he kicks the fridge door shut.Â
âPaper-thin walls, remember?â
You purse your lips, cocking your head to the side. âThought you said you put earbuds on?â
His tongue pokes his cheek, and he looks away from you, chuckling in disbelief. When he remains silent, you spy his ear turning pink, and you hold in a smirk.
âI did,â he says. âA little too late.â
âAre you saying you listened to us?â you let out, gasping in fake outrage.
âPeach.â His doe eyes slide back to you, and they pierce right into your soul as your gazes connect. âI know youâve been listening to me. If you were just trying to make me jealous, you can say so.â
Your mouth falls open, and every word in the dictionary flies out the window as you just stare at him, embarrassment slowly creeping in. Very slowly, its fingers licking up your spine until theyâre clutching your heart.
âWhy would I want to make you jealous?â you ask, voice suddenly far less confident and a lot smaller.
He takes another sip. âYou tell me.â
You donât know what to tell him. All that you know is that you wish last night never happened, and you wish Jungkook would stop looking at you. He looks effortlessly good, even so early in the morning, and really, itâs unfair.
Unfair that youâre stuck living with him for months without Taehyung being here.
When he understands that youâre not going to say anything else, Jungkook shrugs, glancing at the time on his phone. He meets your startled gaze again, before saying, âI have to head to work.â He pauses, tongue playing with his piercing and then continues, âIf you donât want me having sex here, itâd be fair if you didnât have it either.â
You nod once, and when he walks towards you, you quickly step out of the way. It makes him laugh and he stops right in front of you, head tilted down. His hair isnât styled back this morning, and it falls in his eyes, hiding their innocence from you.
Because, for some reason, youâve always thought he has innocent eyes. You know better than to think his soul is innocent, though.
âUnless youâd like me to keep doing it?â he asks, voice low and husky. It makes your spine tingle, especially as he adds, âYou sure sounded like you liked it last time.â
So he was aware of the Incident. You flush furiously crimson, and you refuse to meet his gaze. But when one of his fingers touches your chin ever so lightly to make you tilt your head back, youâre too weak to resist.Â
âDonât be embarrassed, peach,â he purrs. âI was pretty turned on myself last night.â
Your lips part as your gaze meets his, and you donât miss the way his eyes dart to your mouth once.
âI wonât do it again,â you say, voice shaking a little.
It clearly isnât what Jungkook wanted you to say because he frowns, taking a step away from you. If heâs aware that heâs got your heart racing in your chest, he doesnât let it show.
âNoted,â he answers curtly, and he walks out of the kitchen without saying anything else.
You donât move, a trembling hand going over your chest as if itâll calm down the beats of your heart. Evidently, it doesnât do anything, and you listen to Jungkook as he puts a coat on, before going out the door.
You think you werenât breathing until the front door shuts behind him, and even then, youâre not sure youâre breathing at all. It takes everything in you to be able to walk back to your room, and you sit on your bed, eyes darting to your phone.
The screen is lit up, and you quickly grab it to see you received a couple of texts while you were sleeping, and another one just now. That last one is from Hoseok, and you immediately open the notification to see what he sent.
[9:02 am] Hobi: hey, sorry for last night. I feel like a dick for leaving like that.. any chance I can make it up to u today?
You purse your lips, right as relief washes through you. Because no matter how much you agree with the fact that you two shouldnât do feelings, his leaving so quickly made you feel used. Itâs also a good distraction from what just happened with Jungkook, which you reckon you need.
[9:04 am] You: no worries I get it. What do u wanna do
You turn off your phone, grabbing your clothes to take a quick shower. Mostly because you donât want to text him too quickly, but also because you havenât showered since before the party yesterday, and you usually always shower before going to bed.Â
You comb your hair when you get out of the shower, wrapping it in a clean towel before heading back to your room. Even then, you donât touch your phone, instead busying yourself with putting your dirty clothes away in a hamper. You plop down on your bed, thoughts going back to the conversation with Jungkook, and you feel a coil tightening at the bottom of your stomach.
Because youâre only now realizing that he was hitting on you. He was clearly hitting on you, in his own sick and twisted way. And the worst part is, just thinking about it makes you feel turned onâŚ
You canât wait for Taehyung to be back from his semester abroad.
Thursday, January 24th
Your biochemistry class is boring. Nabi is dozing off next to you, and you took a couple of pictures already that you shared in the group chat you now have.Â
Indeed, you ended up hanging out with Hoseok, Namjoon, Yoongi, Nabi and Ria on Sunday morning, getting brunch together, and for convenience Hoseok created a group chat.
Itâs been lively since then, with everyone sending their share of memes and funny pictures. Except Yoongi â Yoongi seems like heâs a ghost in the conversation, except for the laughing reacts that heâs put on some of the memes. The picture of Nabi quickly gains you a lot of laughing emojis, and Namjoon sends,
[11:24 am] Joonie: Yah she should pay attention if she wants good grades!
You laugh-react to Namjoonâs message but donât say anything, though you know that Nabi is going to have to talk about it for the next fifty days. You then try to focus on the class, watching the minutes go by on the clock by the door more than anything. Youâre struggling to stay awake, eyes heavy with sleep, but you manage to make it through the end of class without fully falling asleep. When the professor finally dismisses the class, you shake Nabi awake, laughing as you notice sheâs drooled on the desk.
âGosh,â you say, pointing at it. âWho were you dreaming of?â
Nabi blinks, a little confused, but her cheeks still turn red. âNo one.â
You gather your things as you get up, throwing her a no-bullshit look. She ignores you, shrugging her shoulders like the little angel that she is, and then you make your way to the cafeteria, Nabi in tow. You meet with Ria, whoâs finished her classes for the day â youâre unlucky, you still have another one in the afternoon. You sit together, chatting about everything and nothing, the conversation slowly inching towards Namjoon. Youâre not surprised, and you tune it out as you work on a lab report.
âHobi!â Ria yells happily, motioning at someone.
As much as you and Hoseok decided to be friends, you still feel a little awkward as he makes his way towards you, sitting next to Nabi across from you. âHow are you girls doing?â he asks, but his eyes linger on you.
âFantastic,â Nabi answers. âThough, not looking forward to the genetics class this afternoon.â
âCome on.â Hoseok laughs, shaking his head. âThatâs the easiest class of the first year.â
âStill boring,â Nabi counters. âI donât know how Iâll stay awake.â
âBitch,â you let out, chuckling. âYou were sleeping all morning.â
She shrugs her shoulders innocently, like she had in the class a moment ago. âDidnât sleep last night.â
Hoseok looks down at the table, a knowing look painting his features, and Ria narrows her gaze at Nabi.Â
âWhy?â she asks. âYou left the library before Y/n and I did.â
Nabi purses her lips, cheeks tinting pink. Hoseok still sports the knowing smirk, and you furrow your brows.
Did something happen between them?Â
âI just couldnât sleep,â Nabi answers carefully.
At that, Hoseok snorts, finally looking towards her. âI know someone else that couldnât sleep last night.â
Now, Nabi turns crimson.Â
âDid something happen between you guys?â you blurt.
Hoseok looks startled, and Nabi bursts out laughing. âWhat the fuck?â she says.
âNamjoon was speaking to someone on the phone all night.â
Hoseokâs input has your eyes widen, quite at the same time as Ria replies, âHis girlfriend, I presume?â
It is disapproving, and awkwardness fills the space between you all. Nabiâs eyes drop to the table, ashamed. âI mean⌠he was just helping with some homework.â
Ria scoffs. âSo thatâs what you do when Iâm not at the dorm?â
Indeed, Ria ended up coming over to your place, mostly because she didnât want you to walk home alone so late after your trip to the library. She slept in Taehyungâs bed and went home right when you woke up to shower and change before her class.
âIt was nothing!â Nabi insists. âJust talking.â
Ria rolls her eyes, before getting up and grabbing her stuff. âWhatever.â
She storms away, and you look at her disappearing form, gaze wide, before looking back at Nabi and Hoseok. Hoseok looks like he wishes to disappear through the floor, and Nabi is rubbing a hand on her forehead.
You know exactly what happened. Ria was cheated on in her last relationship, and needless to say, itâs fucked her up a little.
âJust talking?â you repeat.
Nabi meets your gaze, clearly looking for salvation. âI promise, nothing happened.â
Hoseok clears his throat, and both of you look towards him. âNamjoon and his girlfriend broke up last weekend.â
Nabi looks far more surprised than you, if thatâs possible. Clearly, Namjoon didnât tell her.
âThey did?â
Hoseok nods, sparing you a glance before he continues, âItâs been a long time coming. Theyâve been long distance for over a year, and⌠yeah.â
âOh,â Nabi voices. Her eyes drop to the table, where her half-eaten salad is still waiting for her. âI should find Ria and tell her.â
She nods once as if she needs to convince herself, and then she quickly puts her stuff away. It dawns on you that youâre soon going to be left alone with Hoseok, and you try to meet Nabiâs gaze, try to find an excuse as to why you should go with her. But you reckon she and Ria probably need to speak about it without you, for the sake of their friendship.
Nabi waves goodbye when sheâs done picking up her stuff, and then sheâs walking away, following in Riaâs previous footsteps until sheâs out of the cafeteria.
Thereâs a moment of awkward silence, and you focus on your laptop screen as if itâs going to help, but it offers no salvation. Especially not as Hoseok is looking at you over the screen, eyes going a little dark as his features turn somber.Â
You gulp before meeting his gaze. âWhatâs up?â
He wets his lips, glancing at the seats vacated by your friends. âSorry about that.â
âOh,â you let out. âItâs okay, itâs whatever.â
He nods once, and as your attention returns to your computer, he fishes a sandwich out of his tote bag. He starts eating, and you fear the heavy silence is going to make you crazy, especially as you can feel his eyes on you while you type away.
âEverything okay?â you ask, refusing to meet his gaze.
âWant to skip genetics?â he answers, voice lower than you expected it to be.
For a reason unknown, it has your insides turning white hot.Â
âI shouldnât.â
He chuckles, shrugging his shoulders. âSuit yourself.â
You entirely thought he was going to argue, so you canât help but furrow your brows as you meet his gaze. âWhat?â
He sits back, tilting his head to the side as he surveys you. As he remains silent, you feel yourself heating up even more. The danger in his eyes is enticing, and you reckon you probably have enough time before class to find a quiet place around campus.
âThe class is in forty-five minutes,â you innocently say.
Hoseok grins. âPlenty of time, donât you think?â
âI havenât eaten,â you admit, pursing your lips.
âIf you sit at the back of the class, no one will care if you eat.â
You know heâs right. And mostly, you know he doesnât even need to convince you. Youâve been hot and bothered since last Saturday, as youâve been too scared to use your vibrator again after you realized Jungkook heard you.
So when Hoseok admits heâs got the keys to one of the labs, you donât hesitate before putting your computer away, following him as he leads the way.
âIâve neverâŚâ you start, and then you laugh awkwardly.
By the time Hoseok says, âYouâve never what?â, youâre out of the cafeteria.
âNever done anything on campus.â
He winks at you. âGlad to know Iâll be the first.â
It makes you roll your eyes as a smile tugs at the corners of your lips, but you donât say anything as he guides you to the elevator. Another student is already waiting in front of it, and she grins at Hoseok as he stops next to her.
âHoba!â she lets out. âI thought you had the day off today.â
He loosely hugs her before replying. âYeah, had to come to hand an essay to Professor Evans.â
The girl glances at you. You barely recognize her, though youâre pretty sure youâve seen her at some parties. She greets you, and you offer her a smile before she turns to Hoseok and they strike up a conversation about said essay.
Sheâs someone from his class, apparently, and they chat for the whole elevator ride until she exits to head wherever it is that she is going. It leaves you alone with Hoseok, and it takes all of one second before the air fills with tension again, especially as his hand brushes yours.
âSorry about that,â he apologizes, voice low.Â
You wet your lips, meeting his dark gaze. âNo worries,â you reply.
He nods, and to your surprise, he pushes a strand of your hair behind your ear. It makes you freeze in place, as his fingers linger on your cheek. His gaze drops to your lips, and if it wasnât for the elevator dinging, the doors sliding open, youâre convinced he would have kissed you then and there.
Instead, his hand falls to the side, and he struts out of the elevator. You quickly follow him before the doors have time to close, and it takes about another minute before you finally reach the lab.
Hoseok glances around, making sure the hallway is empty before he unlocks the door. He pushes it open for you to walk in, and you enter the cool darkness, eyes sighing in relief.
Indeed, for some reason, youâve always found the neon lights of the hallway to be too aggressive for your eyes.Â
The lab is dark, the only light being the one from behind the closed blinds. The door doesnât have a window, and Hoseok closes it behind him, quickly locking it again. You scan your surroundings â thereâs an area with white coats to your left, and to your right there are empty shelves where you imagine students leave their bags when they have a class in this lab. You drop your stuff there, before turning towards Hoseok again.
âArenât there cameras in here?â you ask.
He walks towards you, towering over you as he puts his tote bag next to your stuff. âThe one that is supposed to film the white coats is dead,â he informs you.Â
You gulp as one of his long fingers finds your chin. He tilts your head back, before leaning in to press his lips against yours once. He barely kisses you, lips ghosting on your jaw before he aims for your neck. You tilt your head to the side, breath hitching in your throat, but he stills next to your ear.
âHow do you know?â you ask breathlessly.
You think you can hear the smirk in his voice when he replies, âSeokjin got in trouble once right here. Someone saw him and his girlfriend come in, but they couldnât see anything on the cameras so they let him go.â
He lightly tugs at your earlobe. âThey havenât changed the camera since then?â
âNo,â Hoseok says, slightly shaking his head. âOr if they have, whoever is behind the security desk has had a couple of shows through the months.â
You let out a breathy sound as he sucks a spot underneath your ear. âAre you saying youâve fucked some girls here?â
âMaybe?â He pauses to leave a trail of wet kisses down your neck, down to the collar of your shirt. âIs that a problem?â
Not at all. In truth, you donât give a shit if heâs been with other people. You would assume he was â heâs an attractive man after all. If you were into him for more than just sex, maybe youâd be insulted, but right now, all you can think about is that heâs about to fuck you senseless.
âNo,â you finally reply.
His teeth pull at your shirt, and then he straightens. âCome.â
You let him grab your hand, and he pulls you to where the white coats are. He pushes you into a corner, glancing behind him. You can see the camera over his shoulder, and you can only hope that it is indeed dead, because he pushes his knee between your legs as he faces you again.
âYouâre such a slut,â he says against your lips. Your eyes close from the sudden proximity, and you await his next words as your insides burn. âWanting me to fuck you here, where anyone could come in.â
Youâd tell him heâs the slut, considering heâs the one that brought you here, but all you can do is grab at his shoulders when he sucks on your lower lip. You moan as his knee pushes further between your legs, thigh pressing against your pussy, and you instinctively grind, looking for some friction on your clit.
Hoseok chuckles darkly, and he straightens again.
âSo fucking desperate.â He tuts, shaking his head in disapproval. âShould I punish you some more?â
Your mouth is parted as you breathe in and out quickly, eyes a little round. âWhy?â
âHave you learned your lesson last weekend?â
You gulp, nodding once.
âHave you?â
âYes.â
He cocks an eyebrow, clearly waiting for more.
âYes, sir.â
He smirks, stealing a sudden heated kiss on your lips. You moan as his hands grab at your hips, forcing you to grind on his thigh again. Your fingers dig into his shoulders, pulling him closer, and you feel yourself go weak in the knees as he keeps you going.
âWait,â you breathe after a moment of you fucking his thigh. He pulls away from where he buried his face in your neck, questions in his eyes. âIt hurts with the fabricâŚâ you trail off as he once again cocks an eyebrow.Â
âAnd? You think youâve been good enough for me to take off your clothes?â
âHobi,â you whine, and he smirks before kissing you again.Â
He removes his leg from between yours, hands staying on your hips. Yours move from his shoulders to the back of his neck so you can pull him closer, and he pushes you against the wall. He grunts in the kiss when you suck on his tongue, and his fingers find a home over your clothes, right against your pussy. He slaps it, hard, and you moan when his other hand sneaks under your shirt, cupping your breast through your bra.
âWhat do you want?â he asks.
âPlease fuck me.â
He chuckles, nodding his head. âOh, Iâll fuck you good. You wonât be able to walk to your class after.â
That only turns you on even more, and you think youâre melted lava now, burning bright red as you bubble away under Hoseokâs heated touch. Getting tired of the fabric of your bra, he pushes it up, until your breasts are free and heâs able to pinch your nipple, hard.
You moan, and he pushes his tongue in your mouth, finding yours as he laps at you.
Youâre soaking your panties. At this point, youâre convinced youâre also soaking through your pants, but you canât bring yourself to care. Hoseok has always been able to make you do whatever it is that he wants, and you donât think itâll ever change. Last weekend was proof enough of that.
âTake off your pants,â he commands as he steps back.Â
Your arms fall aimlessly to your side, but youâre quick to comply, unbuttoning your pants as Hoseok busies himself with his belt. Heâs quicker than you, hands steadier than yours, and heâs freed his cock from his pants before you have time to push your pants down your legs. He strokes himself under your watchful gaze, head cocked to the side.
âIâm so fucking hard for you,â he comments, and he sounds a little surprised.
As if he didnât expect the little action between you two to have been enough for him to get there. You reckon you arenât surprised, especially not as you feel how wet you are once your pants and underwear are off.Â
The cool air of the lab makes you shiver, but Hoseok barely gives you time to realize it before he pushes a hand between your legs, collecting your juices at your entrance before bringing his fingers to your mouth.
âTaste yourself.â
You obey, and you wrap your lips around his two digits, tongue flicking at the pads. Heâs still stroking his dick and, as much as you want to look down, youâre a prisoner of his gaze. All you can do is suck his fingers, hollowing your cheeks as you swirl your tongue around them.
âGood girl,â he says once heâs retrieved his fingers from your mouth.
He lets go of his dick as he searches through his pocket for his wallet. He takes it out, finding a condom. He rips the package as your hand wraps around the tip of his cock, thumb smearing the precum all around the head. He hisses but lets you do it, especially as you start stroking him, trying to copy his previous motions.Â
You jerk him off for a moment, and he pushes your shirt up enough so that heâs able to wrap his lips around your nipple, sucking hard. Itâs your turn to hiss, though his tongue soothes the sting as he swirls it around your nipple before he moves to your other breast.
You rest your head against the wall, trying to focus on jerking him off, but when he dips two fingers in you, arching them to rub at the sweet spot inside of you, you grip him tight.
âFuck,â he curses as he pulls away, and his fingers leave you empty. They move to retrieve the condom from the package, and heâs quick to roll it on his dick. âTurn around,â he orders.
You bite at your lip, nodding once before you do so. He grabs your hips and pulls them back before he pushes on your upper back until youâre bent, one arm resting against a shelf you find under the white coats.
Hoseok teases your entrance with his fingers again before slipping them in. He finger-fucks you for a while, adding scissoring motions to spread you wide open as you pant from the ministrations. You know heâs getting you ready for his cock, even though you reckon itâs useless.
Indeed, youâre soaked, the perspective of fucking in a public space having made you hornier than you usually are. Indeed, you think youâre already close, especially as he pushes in and out quickly, fingers rubbing you expertly.
You clench around him, and he smacks your ass with one hand. âYou like that?â
âFuck me,â you whine again, begging more than anything.
âYes, baby,â he says as he massages your ass. âIâm going to fuck you good.â
His fingers leave you empty, and he holds your hips as he aligns himself with your entrance. His cock rubs against your clit, making you see stars before he finally pushes in. He stops with just the tip in, landing another hard slap to your ass.
The sting makes you move back, and you impale yourself on him until his dick reaches deep inside of you, splitting you wide open. He grunts, fingers digging into the supple skin of your hip, and you moan as he hits the bottom of your pussy.
âFuck,â he curses. âYou want to fuck yourself on me, mmh?â
You donât reply, instead moving forward before pushing back again. He groans again, but then he holds you in place. When you understand that he wants you to stop, you still, glancing at him. He meets your gaze as one of his hands moves to his mouth, and he spits on his fingers.
You grab the side of the shelf hard, knuckles turning white, as he spreads your ass cheeks open, and he smears his spit on your asshole.Â
Heâs still holding your gaze, and as you say nothing, he pushes his thumb in your ass. It hurts a little, and your eyes flutter shut as you focus on the feeling.Â
âSafe word?â
You shake your head no, and Hoseok doesnât need more to start pounding into you, so hard you canât help the loud moan that falls from your lips. You clench your walls around him, hard, and he takes that as a cue to bring his other hand to your clit. He rubs it with a consistent rhythm thatâs making your legs tremble, though heâs pressing a little too hard. You know heâll get you oversensitive in no time, so you pinch one of your nipples, focusing on that pain to remain afloat.
Thatâs where your orgasm finds you, a little under a minute later. Crashing against you, you moan a broken sound that probably would have been his name, and the waves of your orgasm wash over you as he keeps fucking you, fingers never faltering on your clit.Â
As soon as youâre down from the high, you pull his hand away from your clit. âToo sensitive,â you mutter.
He slaps your ass but says nothing as he increases the pace of his thrusts, chasing his own orgasm. It hits him as you clench your walls around him voluntarily, and he grunts loudly as he comes, dick twitching deep inside of you.
For a moment, all that fills the air is the sound of your ragged breaths, and it takes you both a while before youâre back in your bodies, coming down from the high of sex. Hoseok pulls out of you, both his dick and his thumb, and he discards the condom, tying it tightly. You put your clothes back on, shakily, as youâre still reeling from the oversensitivity. You run your hands through your hair, making sure itâs not too much of a mess before facing him.
âDamn,â you say once youâre both standing straight, gaze meeting.
Hoseok laughs. âYeah.â
âNow I have a class to run to.â
He nods. âYou do. You think youâll be okay?â
The way he says it is cocky, and for some reason, it makes you want him again. He must have noticed, because he smirks, tilting his head to the side.
âIâll be fine,â you say. âWe shouldâŚâ
âHang out again?â he supplies as you fall silent.
You nod once. âSometime this weekend?â
He thinks about it for a time before shaking his head no. âIâm going to visit my parents this weekend soâŚâ he trails off.
âOh,â you let out, shrugging your shoulders. âJust⌠text me?â
âIn the group chat orâŚâ he teases, and you push him as you roll your eyes. It makes him laugh, yet he still pulls you in, pressing a kiss to the top of your head. âYes, Iâll text you.â
You move out of his embrace, a little embarrassed. âGood.â
He smiles, gently, and itâs so far from what he was just a moment ago, pounding into you, that you think you get whiplash.
Jeong Hoseok has a duality you donât think youâll ever understand. And really, it leaves you confused all through your genetics class. Nabi never shows up, which you actually are glad for. Because youâre pretty sure she would have taken one look at you and known youâve just fucked, and you donât think youâd be ready to deal with the questioning.
Youâve barely told them about what happened between you and Hoseok last weekend. You donât see yourself admitting that youâre sleeping with him again. Youâre just content with enjoying the friend group, and you donât want to make things awkward for everyone else. So youâve been keeping it to yourself, and perhaps thatâs why youâve been feeling so confused.
As you sit in the library later, trying to finish your lab report, you spy Jungkook shelving some books. He doesnât see you or pretends he hasnât seen you, and that, most of all, makes you realize one thing.
Hoseok isnât the one thatâs been confusing you at all. Itâs been Jungkook, and what he said on Sunday morning, thatâs been plaguing your every moment.
No wonder you havenât said anything to your friends.
Wednesday, February 6thÂ
You hate midterms. They stress you out, obviously, but also the irregular hours make it hard for you to sleep at night, and even harder to follow in your classes. Itâs no wonder you end up skipping your afternoon class, heading home to take a well-deserved nap before you study more. Nabi promised to send her notes, considering youâve sent her the notes of that genetics class she missed a few weeks ago.
Itâs a good deal, and you sleep like a rock the moment you get home, face hidden in your pillow. The only downside of taking a nap is, you always feel worse when you wake up. It takes a while for you to shake the grogginess away, so when you wake up around 3:45 pm, you know youâre not going to be able to study right away. Instead, you head to the kitchen, reheating some leftover noodles you find in the fridge.Â
Youâre halfway through your bowl when your phone rings, startling you. You glance at the screen â itâs Taehyung, on a Facetime call at that. Your heart leaps in your chest; you havenât talked to him since he left, a month ago, except for some texting here and there to make sure that everything was okay.
You pick up the call, and it takes a few seconds before it connects, and your brotherâs dumb face appears on the screen. He looks as if heâs lying in bed, or on a couch perhaps. He smiles as soon as he sees you, and you wish you could hug him through the screen.
âHey!â he says. âHowâs America going?â
âItâs cold,â you complain. âNot as great as Paris I assume.â
Taehyung laughs. âParis is a dream, honestly. Youâd love it here.â
âDuh.â You smile wide, slightly shaking your head. âI still canât believe you just get to spend a whole semester over there.â
âYou can if you want to! Iâm sure your major also allows it.â
As much as itâd be fun, you donât think Paris would be your destination. There are a couple of other places in the world that are higher up on your list, though you donât know if youâd want to study in those places. Youâre afraid itâd take the magic away, as youâve always been too focused on your studies.
Taehyung has never been like this, so you know heâs been enjoying his time over there. And he has â he visited the Louvres last weekend, and heâs eaten so many croissants heâs convinced heâs going to get a French accent soon.
At that, you laugh, before telling him about your time here. Omitting Hoseok, obviously, but mostly omitting how Jungkook has been not so subtly flirting with you. To be fair, youâre pretty sure he was flirting with you before Taehyung left, but heâs been far bolder now. You know the blame is partly on you â after the Incident, and the revelation that he knows about it, you can see why a guy like Jungkook would be attracted.
He told you himself that he was turned on when you were with Hoseok, didnât he?
âHello,â Taehyung says. âAre you even listening to me?â
You shake out of your thoughts, apologizing. âMidterms have been fucking with me.â
âOof,â Taehyung lets out. âIâm lucky my grades here donât count in my GPA.â He winces, glancing away from the screen before resuming his attention on you. âI think Iâm going to tank one of the classes.â
âRIP.âÂ
Before you or your brother have time to say anything else, the front door unlocks. Your eyes snap to it from where youâre sitting on the couch, and Jungkook comes into view, hair ruffled by the wind outside. He catches sight of you, offering you a corner smile that makes you want to roll your eyes as your gaze settles back on your brother.
âIs Jungkook home?â Taehyung asks, loud enough for the mentioned man to look your way.Â
âTae!â he lets out enthusiastically, and he kicks his boots off to make his way to your side.Â
You want to disappear when he sits next to you, close enough for his thigh to press against yours. Heâs still clad in his coat, and you cringe at how cold it is as he leans even closer, his face appearing on your phone. âHowâs Paris been going?â
âBro, itâs fucking sick,â Taehyung answers. âThey know how to party here.â
Jungkook smirks. âAny good fucks?â
Your head snaps towards Jungkook. âBruh, why would you ask him that?â
Taehyung laughs, ignoring you. âIâve been seeing this girl,â he admits. âHavenât fucked yet but Iâd say itâs coming.â
You wince, nose scrunching up in disgust. âCome on, I donât want to hear about your sex life, Tae.â
âYouâre a big girl now, get used to it,â Jungkook jokes.
You glare at him again, and when your eyes move back to Taehyungâs face, heâs got his brows furrowed. You donât know why, and the expression melts to be replaced by his usual impassive mask, the one you know he uses when heâs trying to not let his emotions show on his face.
âWell, Iâve been dating her, Iâm pretty sure I can tell you Iâve been going on dates?â he says, and it sounds like a question.
You narrow your eyes at him. âKim Taehyung, why are you starting to date someone in Paris? Youâre not going to do long distance.â
âSheâs from our college too, chill,â he answers, rolling his eyes at you. âSheâs in the exchange program.â
That gains your interest, and a smile moves on your lips. âOh?â
âOh?â Taehyung echoes.
âWho is she?â
He offers you a secretive smile. âNot telling before things are official.â
Taking you by surprise, Jungkook grabs your phone out of your hands. The sudden contact of his fingers on yours feels electrifying, even though it lasts just a fraction of a second before itâs gone.
âHey!â you burst out.
âIâm sure you can tell your best friend,â Jungkook says, holding your phone out of your reach, filming his face.
âJungkook, give me my phone!â
You can hear Taehyung laughing on his side of the line as Jungkook looks at you. âNah.â
You sit back on the couch, folding your arms on your chest. You clench your jaw, annoyance moving through you, but you donât say anything else as Taehyung insists that heâd rather wait before telling you. Jungkook, resolute, asks the question again, and you elbow him in the ribs.
âOw!â he lets out. âWhat the fuck was that for?â
You roll your eyes. âGive me my phone.â He looks up at the ceiling in annoyance, before handing you the device. âThank you,â you say sarcastically.
âJust wanted to get you your answer,â he replies, shrugging his shoulders. âBut never mind.â
At that he gets up, sauntering away while taking off his coat. You watch him go, far too confused, but Taehyung doesnât let you think about it for too long. Instead, he says heâs got to go, but that heâs glad you two talked. You tell him to be safe, and then you hang up.
The sudden silence in the living room makes you glance towards the kitchen as you hear Jungkook rummaging in the refrigerator. It takes all but five seconds for him to yell, âHey, are you eating my noodles?â
Your gaze widens as it falls on the noodles youâve been eating, forgotten on the coffee table. You were convinced they were yours earlier, but now that Jungkookâs said itâŚ
You jump out of your seat, grabbing them as you head to the kitchen. âAre they yours? I was convinced they were mine.â
He seems pissed, but when you hand him the bowl, he cocks an eyebrow. âYouâve eaten half of them.â
âThereâs still plenty left!â you point out. âIâm sorry.â
âPeach,â he says, smirking. âItâs okay, Iâll eat something else.â
The nickname makes your cheeks burn. âNo, really, take them.â
He hesitates for a few seconds more before shrugging his shoulders and grabbing the half-eaten bowl. âThanks.â
You donât reply, not knowing what to say as he moves back to the living room. Still hungry, you grab some grapes from the fridge before heading to your room, figuring you should study now. You get comfortable at your desk, studying for your next midterm. It goes well for a few hours, but when the sun has long since set, you hear Jungkook opening the front door, greeting someone.
For a moment, youâre afraid heâs invited a girl over, but it turns out to be Jimin. You relax in your chair, continuing to study, eyes growing heavy with every sentence that you read. Luckily enough, you donât have a morning class tomorrow, having the week off before the midterm to âstudyâ. So you push through, knowing that it doesnât matter if you go to bed late tonight.
You canât focus on your laptop anymore when you hear Jungkook cursing at Jimin from the living room. Itâs loud, and you only then realize that the TV is on, and theyâre clearly playing some game. Just like that, what was left of your concentration flies out of the window, and you get up to go see what they are up to.
Turns out that they are playing Mario Kart, and from the looks of it, Jungkook is losing. Heâs leaning towards the TV, elbows resting on his knees as he concentrates, and Jimin has a shit-eating grin on his lips. The latterâs eyes flicker to you for half a second before he resumes his attention on the television.
âHey,â he greets you, adding your name at the end. âWant to play?â
You move closer so you can see the screen, and you watch as they drive the rainbow road. âIâm supposed to be studying.â
Jungkook curses loudly, and you watch his character fall from the road. You laugh, right as Jimin finishes the race.
âJK, you suck,â Jimin teases.
Jungkook is pouting next to him, half in concentration and half in annoyance, and he looks stupidly cute like this. You hate it, so you resume your attention on the screen to watch him finish in eleventh place, right in front of Princess Peach.
âFuck off,â Jungkook drawls, and his gaze slides to where youâre standing. It seems he thinks you are salvation because his gaze lights up. He says your name enthusiastically, adding, âMy second favourite Kim sibling!â
You purse your lips, furrowing your brows. âFuck off,â you tell him.
âCan you please go get some beer from the fridge, since youâre standing?â he adds, begs, ignoring you.Â
He offers you his best impression of puppy eyes, and you want to hate him because, damn, heâs good. Too good, and you shake your head in disapproval, though you still turn around and walk over to the kitchen. You fish two beers out of the fridge and thinking better of it, you grab a third one for yourself. You head back to the living room then, handing the cans to the guys.
âThank you,â Jimin says, but all Jungkook does is wink at you, a smirk playing on his lips.
It makes something warm blossom in your chest, and as he glances down at your naked legs, the feeling soon trickles down to your core. Indeed, youâre only wearing a pair of pajama shorts, and luckily enough, youâve been shaving your legs religiously now that youâve been sleeping with Hoseok again.
Your cheeks flush, and you try to figure out where to sit. Jimin is leaning against the armrest, back propped up against a pillow, and Jungkook is in the middle of the couch, next to the L-shaped part. It only leaves you with the option of sitting next to him, and you clench your jaw, though you still make it to his side.
You sit as far from him as you can, grabbing the blanket you always leave on the back of the couch to hide your legs, lest Jungkookâs gaze burns your skin more.
âYou wanna play?â Jungkook asks.
You shake your head no. âJust taking a break from studying.â
âWith a beer?â
He sounds disapproving, so you glance at him. âYeah?â
He snorts, but he doesnât say anything else as Jimin starts another race. You watch them play, cheering for Jimin even though Jungkook is winning. Jimin, ecstatic, keeps drifting into the wall, but he manages to get a blue shell on the last turn, which he immediately launches at Jungkook.
Jungkook curses loudly again as you giggle with Jimin, watching his character â Wario â spinning on the screen. He still manages to finish the race fourth, with Jimin right behind him.Â
Youâve been drinking your beer fast, and after the next race, Jimin manages to convince you to play. You choose Princess Peach, obviously, right as Jimin moves away to go to the bathroom.
âReally, Princess Peach?â Jungkook teases, a smirk adorning his lips. âYouâre trash with her.â
âThe character you choose changes nothing,â you say, glaring at him. âLet me be.â
âRight,â he says, laughing. He leans back into the couch, taking a sip from his beer. âYou did earn your nickname after all.â
âPlease.â You roll your eyes, before meeting his gaze. âYou know I hate that nickname.â
âHence why Iâll keep using it, peach.â
You punch him in the shoulder, clearly not hard enough to hurt. As a matter of fact, it hurts your hand more than it probably hurts him as your fist collides with his hard shoulder muscles, and you grit your teeth as you sit back in your spot.
âYouâre annoying.â
He grins at you, a toothy grin that makes you want to punch him again, in the face this time. âYou love it,â he teases.
Before you can say no, Jimin walks out of the bathroom, and the moment is over. You go back to playing, and you end up on a winning streak, which earns you a lot of curses from Jungkook. Right when youâre about to go for a fourth race, Jungkook claiming that this one is going to be his race, Jimin receives a call.Â
âItâs Sera,â he says as an explanation, and he walks away to take the call in the kitchen, away from you and Jungkook.
Jungkook immediately turns towards you. âHave you been practicing? You were trash last time we played.â
You snort. âI have better things to do with my free time than to practice playing Mario Kart.â
He cocks an eyebrow at you before shaking his head. âWhatever, Iâll beat you in this race.â
âGood luck with that,â you tease. âDidnât you finish last in the last one?â
To your surprise, he leans towards you. Heâs close enough for you to feel his breath fanning on your face, and you hold yours as he offers you a smirk and a cocked eyebrow.
âAt least I finished.â
You donât know what heâs referring to, so you offer him a quizzical look. âWhat?â
He chuckles, and one of his hands pats your thigh over the blanket. It still burns, and you gulp.
âPretty sure that guy youâve been fucking hasnât made you finish.â
You flush crimson. âWhy the fuck would you think that?â
You hope he canât hear the furious beats of your heart because youâre pretty sure youâre about to go into cardiac arrest.
âHeard you sucking his dick, and then you tell me he left. He didnât take care of you, did he?â
The way Jungkook is looking at you right now makes you feel new. Seen. As if no oneâs ever looked at you that way before.
âI deserved it,â you reply, throat dry. You try swallowing, but it only makes you gulp again.
âCome on, peach. What did you do to deserve that?â
Heâs even closer now. Eyes dropping to your lips as you tentatively wet them, and you feel yourself leaning back. Mostly because you think youâre going to explode if you donât move.
Jeon Jungkook is dangerous for your sanity.
âGhosted him,â you admit.
That takes Jungkook by surprise. He starts laughing, shaking his head. âYou, ghosting someone?â
Luckily enough, as he laughed he sat back in his spot, and you breathe easier with the renewed distance between you.
âYeah?â
Jungkook chuckles again. âFor some reason, I thought you were a hopeless romantic.â
âWhy?â
He shrugs, and you both glance towards the kitchen from which Jimin emerges. Jungkook never answers your question as Jimin announces that heâs going to play one last race before heâll have to leave, and youâre forced to let the conversation go as he starts the race.
This time around, you canât focus. You keep falling off the track, hands clammy as your mind replays the conversation with Jungkook. As it reminds you of just how Jeon Jungkookâs gaze was burning on you a moment ago, and you drive into a wall on the second turn.
âFuck,â you curse.
âDistracted?â Jungkook asks, and the smirk tells you enough for you to understand what just happened.
He was trying to distract you. You fume, focusing on the screen with new vigour as you try to pass Jungkook. He notices your intent, but when he laughs, you once again run into a wall, slowing you down enough that you fall back to the tenth position.
When Jungkook passes the finish line first, he cheers loudly, winking your way. You glare at him, and Jimin laughs at the two of you, though he says nothing. You wonder if heâs heard part of your conversation with Jungkook â if he has, you reckon your brother is going to give you shit for it soon. You can only hope that he hasnât, because as much as you love Taehyung, you donât want him to be an overbearing asshole.
Jimin leaves, wishing you and Jungkook a good night before disappearing into the soft snowfall outside. You donât move from the couch, and when Jungkook heads to the kitchen, you put your controller down, stretching as you yawn.
To your surprise, Jungkook comes back with another beer for each of you.Â
âWhat are you doing?â you ask.
âDonât you still want to play?â he says as he sits next to you, and electricity courses through your blood as you notice heâs closer now.
âNot really,â you admit, yet you still accept the beer that he hands you.
âMind if I play something else, then?â
You shrug your shoulders. âNah, go on. Iâll just drink this and go to bed.â
âTired of me?â he teases, smirking.
You roll your eyes, but donât reply to that.
âWhat made you think that Iâm a hopeless romantic?â you ask after a few seconds, going back to your previous conversation.
He plays with his piercing, eyes sparkling with mischief. âHave you seen your brother? It wasnât far-fetched to think youâd be like him.â
Heâs not wrong. Taehyung is a romantic, through and through. Itâs one of the reasons why he loves Paris so much â the city of love, where heâs himself finding love at the moment, it seems. Heâs been that way for as long as you can remember, only having dated a girl once in his life all through high school, splitting because she decided to go to an Ivy League college on the other side of the country.
âRight,â you say.
Jungkook switches games to Smash, not saying anything else. It seems the conversation is over, and you watch him play a match as you sip your beer, slower than the other one. It makes you realize that you donât usually hang out with Jungkook, and you reckon you have nothing to tell him.Â
Thereâs usually always a buffer between the two of you, be it Taehyung or Jimin.
âHow have your midterms been going?â he asks all of a sudden, right as you watch his character being thrown out of the screen.
âHuh,â you let out. âItâs been okay,â you admit. âJust stressful, and a lot of studying.â
He glances at your beer. âSorry for interrupting your studying tonight.â
âNah, all good,â you reassure him. âI needed a break. I pulled an all-nighter last night.â
He throws you a disapproving look that makes you shrug your shoulders as if to say âitâs whateverâ. He doesnât say anything though, waiting until his match ends to speak again.
âYou shouldnât pull all-nighters, theyâre bad for your health.â
âItâs fine,â you insist. âI had a midterm this morning, didnât really have a choice.â
He pulls at his piercing, nodding once. âFair enough. What are you doing still up though?â
Right on cue, you yawn again. âIâm going to head to bed soon,â you admit. âBut I took a nap this afternoon and I always struggle with sleeping after.â
âPretty sure youâve got a little friend that can help you with that.â
Your mouth falls open in surprise, but Jungkookâs attention is focused on the screen as another match begins.
âExcuse me?â
âUnless you just use your fingers?â he teases. âHow do you touch yourself, peach?â
âJungkook, shut the fuck up,â you warn.
Though his words have arousal build up inside of you, and you clench your thighs together instinctively.
âJust do whatever you did the other night,â he says, and you know heâs referring to the Incident. âYouâll sleep well after.â
You shake your head in disbelief. âYouâre so crass.â
âYet youâre still sitting next to me.â
You watch his profile, and your eyes fall to the ink on his arm. His forearm flexes as he uses the controller, and you force yourself to look at the screen.
âIâm just finishing my beer.â
He glances at you once, and you think you could drown in the darkness in his eyes. His gaze is gone too fast for you to do just that, but you still feel your pulse racing.
âRelax, peach,â he tells you, voice suddenly husky. It has the opposite effect of making you relax, and you wet your lips as he continues, âMasturbating is only human. You shouldnât be ashamed of it.â
âStill donât think I should be discussing that with you,â you say after a few seconds of electric current swimming in your blood.
He chuckles manly. âFair enough. Iâm sorry if I made you uncomfortable.â
In truth, he did quite the opposite, but you donât have it in you to tell him. You donât want to tell him, donât want to encourage his behaviour when it feels like danger in its purest form.
âAll good,â you say, and youâre aware you sound breathless. As a matter of fact, you are breathless, and you know Jungkook heard it too. Know that the look he throws you is filled with lust, sinfully so, and you know you need to leave this room.
Heâs your brotherâs best friend, after all.
âIâmâŚâ you trail off. He nods once to encourage you to continue, gaze still burning on you even though that means heâs losing his game. âIâm going to go to bed now.â
He glances at your beer. âYouâre done with that?â
Heâs a little shit. Heâs a little shit, and he clearly knows it.
âIâll finish it in my room.â
His tongue darts out to play with his piercing as his big doe eyes narrow. âAlright. Good night, peach.â
You nod once, and you get up from the couch. The blanket falls from your legs, and youâre all too aware of how heâs looking at you like heâs about to devour you.
âGood night.â
And then you flee, core heated up and heart beating out of your chest. Youâre convinced you can feel his gaze boring a hole between your shoulder blades, but you donât turn around to confirm. You refuse to turn around to confirm, lest youâre never going to be able to make it to your room.
You hate this. Hate that heâs got you hot and bothered too much for you to be able to settle in bed comfortably. Hate that you find yourself seeking your vibrator in your night table.
You only sigh in relief when youâve got it pressed against your clit through your underwear. And youâve soaked through your panties already. Theyâre sticky against you, but you canât bring yourself to move them to the side. Not for a while, not until youâve hidden your face in your bed cover to muffle your sounds, if you make any.
No, it takes you a moment before you finally decide to push them to the side, and the direct contact on your clit has you arching your back, stars swimming in the periphery of your vision. You think about Jungkook. Remember the sounds that he makes while he fucks, remember the words that heâs told you.
You remember his big eyes, filled with sudden lust for you. You imagine him murmuring his dangerous words right in your ear, lips moving against you, and the thought of him pushing his dick in you is enough to send you over the edge, vision flashing with white light for so long that you think youâve gone blind. And then you push the vibrator inside of you, not surprised when it slides right in with how wet you are.
Youâre aware of the squelching sounds it makes, but you canât bring yourself to care. All you can do is imagine being impaled on Jungkookâs dick instead, imagine his inked hand wrapping around your neck as he pounds into you.
In your fantasies, he fucks you even better than Hoseok does. He fucks you into ecstasy, fucks you until youâre high with it, and you go dumb. Until all thatâs left is his dick, and itâs no surprise when you muffle a loud moan in the bed cover as you squirt, your juices covering the hand youâre fucking yourself with.
And still, you canât stop. You turn on your side, hide your face in your pillow as tears swim in your gaze with the intensity of your pleasure. You imagine Jungkook on his side of the wall, imagine him stroking his cock, listening to you choking on Hoseokâs dick, remember him admitting to being turned on by itâŚ
Your other hand moves between your legs, finds your sensitive clit and starts rubbing insistent circles on it, right as another knot starts forming in your lower stomach. You move the vibrator inside of you faster, time your motions with the circles on your clit, and soon enough, a new orgasm finds you, slams into you so hard you think youâll lose your mind.
Only then are you able to stop, turning off your vibrator and putting it down on the bed next to you, hands shaking slightly. You donât move for a long time as you swim in the aftereffect of your pleasure, and it takes you a while to decide to go clean up. Clearly, you need a cold shower, but first, you chug what was left of the beer, needing to numb your mind so you canât be embarrassed by what just happened.
You put your pajama shorts back on, grab a clean pair of underwear and then stop next to the door. You listen to the sounds outside of your room, but it seems Jungkookâs not gaming anymore. So you hesitantly open the door, and when you find the apartment completely dark, you sigh in relief.
You tiptoe towards the bathroom, slowing down in front of Jungkookâs door. Thereâs a faint red light under his door, coming from the LED lights you know heâs hung in his room, and you wonder what heâs doing in there.
Through the door, you hear some faint feminine moaning and instinctively bite your lips. You only realize youâve stopped in front of his door when you hear him curse lowly, and then the moaning is interrupted. Heâs watching porn. Youâre painfully aware that heâs watching porn, jerking off just on the other side of his closed door.
You reckon you will really need the cold shower after all.

This blog has become a thought dump page and you're going to deal with it
Ok ok ok,,, listennnn Fox Hybrid!Yeonjun
mdni - some smutty stuff, hybrids duh, biting duh, mating DUH
Its clichĂŠ but my mind is thinking, stray wild fox starved and lonely somehow how finds himself in the edges of a town, your town ofc. Just as he peeps through the trees he sees you on your daily walks and oh my does he think you're beautiful and *ahem* scrumptious. Fox!Yeonjun takes a few days to work up the courage to step out of the woods to finally stalk towards you, I mean, meet you.
You're walking and right when you were about to put your earbuds in you hear foot steps behind you. You turn around thinking someone is there but there is no one. You shake your head at your curiosity to turn back around to bump into the fox.
Dirty, is the only thing you can think of, you're frightened but god heâs dirty af. His orange hair is more of a brown dusty color, clothes ripped and not his size, but his eyes, his big brown yet predatory eyes have you melting. He needs a home. That night you bathed him and Yeonjun was basically purring to you.
And thats how you ended up with a fox hybrid in your house. Well, sorta, see foxes are independent, so Yeonjun liked to escape your cozy home and go back into the wild. Adaptable and very observant it wasn't hard to find his way back to you. He'd come every other day bringing back meat he hunted for, you two cook a meal together, and ofc another bath only from you bc he says he doesn't know how to do it himself :))
By the end of winter your seasonal depression is itching to go back outside for your walks. You hoped to see your handsome fox as it had been some time since you've seen jjun. You watch as the spots of snow melts into the green grass, the wind was brisk but bearable, crisp to breathe in. While walking you jolt, a tickle on your skin when you feel something brush against you. You look to your left to get a flash of a white tip of an orange tail, looking to your right you see Yeonjun, your handsome fox. He was very vocal today, talking about everything and anything, even singing a few times. He liked how you had evident heart eyes every time he sang.
You two end up back at your house ready to do your usual, give him a bath. But something felt different, usually jjun would be jumping off the walls for his special treatment but this time he was right next to you, holding your hand leading you to your bathtub. Bending down to turn the faucet on, you could sense the fox right behind you. Straightening your posture you're not surprised to feel his arms around your waist as he tends to be cuddly, but you are surprised by his abundant neck kisses and the hardon poking your back. One thing leads to another and now you're both naked and in the bathtub.
Yes, you knew all the times Yeonjun creeped on you before he introduced himself, you're not dumb, but you never felt unsafe with him. The fox is gorgeous, a flirt, a smooth talker, but he had a playful and caring nature that made you feel like he was another home at home. So his need for mating you felt natural, good even. Letting him leave a bunch of love bites all over your skin as you ride him. You two giggling at the waves of the bath water, but all giggles were put aside when you stroke his fluffy orange tail awakening his feral side, having him thrust up into you so much that the water floods the whole bathroom floor. Your hands in his hair then reaches up to his pointy ears holding them for dear life. Panting, moaning, overwhelmed by his force, yet you take time to admire Yeonjun's pretty features as they contort by the feeling of you.
And yeah so, after that you had to clean each other up again. Yeonjun becomes very protective after mating you. Never leaving your side, gets a little frustrated when your don't go to bed right away. Fox!Yeonjun just wants to stay up on guard as you get your beauty sleep. And foxes tend to have one mate for life, but you don't need to know that....
A nuisance,
TxT's Devil

MDNI 18+ content ; fem!reader, violence, stalking, nudity, masturbation, wade being a perv but what else is new?
thinking about wade and clueless civilian!readerâŚ.
he watches her from the rooftops as she walks home late at night, clutching her purse closely to her chest, her heels clicking against the cement of the city streets late at night, every night, like clockwork; he's there.
he feels the bulge beneath his suit grow at the sight of her getting ready for bed. he stares unashamedly from the fire escape as she rids herself of her clothes, now only in a pair of frilly white lace panties and a conveniently (for him) see-through matching tank top.
he has her whereabouts memorized so he knows exactly where she is at any given moment. he watches who she talks to, who checks her out unbeknownst to her, who follows her as she blasts music through her earbuds and sips her overpriced, way-too-sugary coffee. lucky for her, wade's always there to make sure no one lays a hand atop her oblivious little head. even if that means the perpetrator 'accidentally' gets their throat slit fruit ninja-style in an alleyway or 'just so happens' to walk into a garbage truck compactor. anything to protect his little angel.
he nearly breaks through her window to offer a helping hand (pun intended) as she plays with herself relentlessly under the covers, biting her glossy lip, and letting whines and whimpers fill her room as loud as she wants becauseâafter all, no one's around to hear her....
right?

âOh, kiss me, beneath the milky twilight. Lead me out on the moonlit floor, lift your open hand - Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance, silver moon's sparkling. So, kiss me.â
You hum along with the song playing quietly in your ear as you scrub the bathtub. It is one of your cleaning nights and you are focused on getting everything back to tip-top shape. The tub currently has a bit of a purple tint to it after you tried a new brand of bubble bath for Minnie - you are lucky she isnât now grape flavored as well - and you would very much like it gone. It is coming off easier than you expected, but it is taking a fair amount of elbow grease.Â
It is easy to space out and listen to music as you work. Your cleaning playlist are songs you can vibe to that you donât really associate with anything in your life - mostly you think about the movies the song has been featured in - but you are finding, as you scrub and romantic lyrics float through your head, a certain name and face keeps appearing in your mindâs eye.Â
You know it isnât wise for you to develop a crush on Matt - just because you have a daughter together does not mean he wants to kiss you. You know you need to squash the feelings down before you get yourself hurt.Â
But sometimes it is nice to have silly impossible daydreams while you are cleaning alone at ten at night. Having a goofy little smile while you picture yourself spinning around a garden in a dance isnât hurting anyone. You have a good grasp on reality - you just sometimes want to pretend to be the lead in a cheesy 90âs teen romcom - is that too much to ask?Â
No one else needs to know Matt has replaced the lead actor. It is a secret just for you.Â
As you scrub bleach powder around your purple-haze tub drain, you catch movement reflecting in the shine of the spout. You canât hear anything over your music - even though you only have one earbud in - so you sit up and turn around. Of course, it is Minnie standing in the doorway, clad in her jammies, and dragging Scooby by his big paw.
You pull the earbud out, frowning to your daughter, âIs everything alright, Mouse? Is my music too loud? Did it wake you up?â
She shakes her head, then in the most miserable voice you have ever heard from her, whines, âMy tummy hurts.â
Instantly, you set down your sponge and your earbud so you can go to your daughter, âyour tummy hurts?âÂ
You move to pick her up, wanting to comfort her, but it is made clear she doesnât want this by stepping back and holding up her toy between the two of you. It hurts, but it passes, as you know you donât like to be touched when you feel sick, so instead, you kneel down to be in front of her and try to find the root of the problem.Â
âHow does your tummy hurt?â
She sways side to side, face scrunching up as she self-analyzes. You can see the little wheels turning in her head, but then there is a very subtle shift in her eyes that only years of being a mother makes you notice. With lightning speed, you grab Minnie under her arms and spin around to hold her over the toilet just as her dinner begins to regurgitate.Â
Your heart breaks as she empties her stomach and you try to soothe her the best you can, rubbing her little back as she coughs and hacks.Â
âItâs okay, itâs okay, get it all out. Get all the icky out,â you tell her.Â
Luckily, her stomach is small and there is not a lot of expel. Once you are sure she is done, you flush the toilet then close the lid, intent on setting Minnie down so you can clean her up, but of course, now she doesnât want to be put down. She wiggles and turns until she can bury her head into your neck, sniffling and hiccupping, and clinging to you the best she can.Â
You can feel bits of vomit on your neck, but since you arenât completely covered in it, you try to ignore it in favor of your distressed daughter. You begin to rock her gently, humming one of her favorite lullabies as she processes how distressing throwing up is.
You donât remember when the last time she got sick was, but you have a guess as to what caused this upset - you tried a new ice cream for dessert tonight. It had made your stomach a bit gurgly and you had solved that with a TUMS.Â
It hadnât occurred to you to ask if Minnie needed one, too.Â
A lesson for the future.
Minnie doesnât dissolve into full on tears and after about two minutes, she pulls back and croaks out, ââcooby?â
She had dropped the toy when you had first picked her up, so you stretch to grab him for her. She quickly switches to clinging to him and you go right for a washcloth. You wipe down your neck first - you can only handle so much - then start on cleaning up your poor Mouse.Â
In a blessing from the gods, she only has a little bit of gunk around her mouth and nose. It doesnât seem like anything got on her clothes.Â
Getting her to rinse her mouth out takes a bit of convincing.Â
âIt will help the icky taste go away,â you promise, but she just clamps her mouth shut and shakes her head. You very much get why she wouldnât want anything in her mouth after throwing up, but you also know she needs a good rinse. She only gives in after you demonstrate what you want of her by brushing your teeth and gargling some water. However, the condition is that you have to brush her teeth for her while she squeezes Scooby for dear life.Â
Once her mouth is clean and the only sign she was ever sick is her puffy red eyes, you scoop up your baby and bring her out to the living room.Â
âHow does your tummy feel now?â you ask as you set her on the couch and begin to cocoon her in the throw blanket you keep there.Â
Minnie rests her head on top of Scoobyâs, lip jutting out into a pout, âIcky. And Hurty.â
âIcky and hurty?â You sympathize. You know well the aftermath of throwing up and how sometimes the aftermath is worse than the event - your stomach often turns sour and you feel drained. You know certain fluids will help relieve this, so you kiss Mouseâs forehead and tell her, âLet me see if we have any things to help.â
âBlue Pedi-lyte?â she asks and you canât help but smile over how observant and smart your little one is. She may not have thrown up in recent memory - but other digestive problems have occurred, and she clearly remembers enough that the drink helped.Â
âYeah. Let me go see if we have any, okay? Do you want to put on some Mickey?â
âGoofy,â is her quick, but mumbled reply.Â
You turn on the television and bring up some Goofy related shorts, then head to the kitchen, hoping you have some old Pedialyte.Â
But you donât.Â
You have leftover drinks Karen brought you and the only thing that is comparable to what you promised Minnie is yellow Gatorade. However, you have nothing to turn it blue. You have the feeling that trying to give it to your little one is not going to go well, but you try, nonetheless. You fill a sippy cup halfway with yellow liquid and mentally cross yourself as you bring it to Mouse on the couch.
She takes one look at it before pouting at you, âThatâs yellow.â
âI know, sweetie. But we donât have any blue Pedialyte. We only have yellow Gatorade. It will help your tummy, too.â
To her credit, she takes it and holds it in her lap, looking down at it with disdain. She opens and closes her mouth a few times, then wrinkles up her nose and holds the cup back up to you, âItâs stinky.â
You try to not sigh - lemon-lime is an intense flavor and probably wonât taste the best after vomiting, but it is all you have. You crouch down so you are eye level with your daughter and rub her leg, trying to be encouraging, âI know, but it will help your tummy. Can you try for me?â
She looks between you and the cup about fifteen times, her little eyes full of doubt, before bringing it up to her mouth and taking a sip. She does not swallow - instead she looks disgusted before opening her mouth and letting the drink spill down her chin.
âOh, no, no, letâs not do that,â you groan. You use your t-shirt - which is luckily your cleaning shirt and gross anyways - to wipe her face and soak up the yellow liquid.Â
âIcky,â Mouse informs you, then adds, âI want blue Pedi-lyte. Please?â
You take in your daughter, looking so tiny wrapped up on the couch. How awful it must be to not only be nauseous, but to be so with enhanced senses. Youâve thrown up enough times to know what an unpleasant aftertaste it leaves, so she must be so miserable.
You rub your hands over your face and give in, âOkay, let Mommy go change into real people clothes, and we will go get some for you.â
----
You are no stranger to midnight runs to the bodega two blocks west. You had moved into your current apartment when you were about six months pregnant, and you had spent month seven waddling your way there almost every night for a slice of cake. The late-night cashier, Sal, practically watched Minnie grow up and he is one of the few people who she will talk to unprompted. So, you donât feel embarrassed when you stroll in wearing sweatpants and a band-tank top, with Minnie still in her jammies - Sal has seen you in worse states and at least you arenât wearing a robe and slippers.Â
Thereâs a couple of college aged boys lingering around the snacks section who smell heavily of marijuana, and they seem more interested in talking about what chips to get than anything, so only your hyper paranoid mind makes you take notice as you make your way to the drink coolers. You pass all the fun things and go to the very back corner of the storefront where the small selection of medicinal goods are.Â
Tampons, Tylenol, and band aids are stacked low on the dry goods shelf, and across from them, practically on the floor of the cooler, is one row of Pedialyte. The gods must be smiling on you because it is indeed the blue flavor your daughter is desiring.Â
You open the cooler, and with Minnie on your hip, squat down to retrieve your prize. Almost instantly, she starts making grabby hands for it, asking with a bit of a whine, âMommy, open it.â
âWe have to pay for it first, then you can drink it,â you remind her, feeling guilty as you do. You can see the upset in her eyes, and to try and mitigate the damage, you offer, âDo you want to help buy it?â
Mouse, always the eager helper, nods against you, so you hand over the drink, stand, and start making your way to the counter. The stoned boys are debating which chips will leave the least amount of residue on their gaming controllers as you pass them and part of you wants to stop and listen. You donât have an interest in video games beyond silly ones on your phone, but their passion is intense, and you agree Cheeto dust is one of the worst things in the world. You are lucky Minnie finds them gross and much prefers pretzels as her chip of choice.
As you come up to the checkout, Sal looks up from his phone and gives you a pleasant smile, âLate night snack run?âÂ
Minnie pipes up before you can, leaning forward as far as she can to hold out the bottle towards him, âI wanna buy this, please, thank you.â
Sal, ever kind, reaches across the counter to get it so you donât have to try to lean in, âAhhh, no snacks. Tummy troubles?â
âTummy troubles,â you confirm. You dig into your purse for your wallet as he begins to ring you up.
Sal clicks his tongue in sympathy, before telling you, âMy daughter, Sasha, the tall one, she always had the tummy troubles, too. Turns out, she was allergic to corn. Do you know how much corn is in everything in America?â
You make a face at that because you do, in fact, know how much corn is in everything. âIâm sorry to hear that.âÂ
In your arms, always wanting to mimic you, Minnie gives a solemn nod to Sal, âSorry to hear.â
Sal laughs warmly, âYou are kind. I hope your tummy troubles are not from corn, but too many sweets.âÂ
That makes Mouse giggle, which warms your heart. When you are told the total, you hand her your card to hand over to Sal. The sweet man swipes it, then addresses Minnie, âDebit or credit?â
Despite not knowing what that means, she instantly replies with, âCredit!â making you smile all the more.Â
âYes, we will charge it,â he says. The receipt prints and he hands that and the card back to you before bagging the Pedialyte in a little black baggie and handing that to Minnie. âYour purchase, little maâam.âÂ
âThank you!â she chimes, and you thank Sal as well. The college boys have finally decided on their snack, so you vacate the counter so they can make their purchase, wishing the cashier a good rest of his night.Â
As you exit the bodega, Minnie bonks your arm with the bagged bottle, âMommy, open it now. We buyed it.âÂ
âOkay, okay.â
You set her down on the ground, then get the bottle out so you can crack it open. You help your little one take a few careful sips and once she is done, she smacks her lips.Â
âNot icky?â You ask and she gives a big nod in response.Â
âNot icky.â
âHow is your tummy?â
Her fist goes right into her mouth as she thinks over the question. You use the time to recap the drink and drop it back into the bag, then put that into your purse.Â
âIt feels like jumping dinosaurs,â Mouse finally tells you, âGoing âbah bah bahâ. Like sheepies.â
You have no idea what that is supposed to mean, but you guess that she feels better. She seems more chipper, which isnât what you need closing in on midnight. If you donât get home soon and get her back into bed, you are going to have a very grumpy toddler in the morning.Â
Which will go great with your expected grumpiness - you still have to finish cleaning the bathroom and who knows how long that is going to take. Youâll need to redo the toilet and throw a load of laundry into the wash. Youâll probably get to bed around two if you are lucky.
So, with the complete intention of tiring your daughter out, you ask her, âDo you want to walk back home holding Mommyâs hand?â
Which completely does the trick and Minnie takes your hand so you can walk back home together, and you begin heading that way.Â
Despite being the city that never sleeps, the streets around you are pretty empty. You havenât come across any other foot traffic and youâve only seen a few cars roll by, so to you, it seems like a quiet night.
You wonder if that is how Minnie sees it - or in her case - hears it.Â
It has been mind boggling learning her range of hearing and how much input she must constantly receive.
Matt is still working on making you his binder - Karen has apparently taken to copy editing it - but he has given you a preview of a few pages and you can barely comprehend it. You think you would go insane if you could hear everyone talking all at once, all the time. Your anxiety would be astronomical, but your sweet Mouse doesnât seem bothered in day-to-day life.
Youâve been watching her play more and more and youâve been learning what catches her attention and interests. To your surprise, it has been music. The little wiggles and shakes she sometimes does is apparently her interpretation of dancing and you have been making her a little playlist for her birthday. You think a dance party would be a fun thing to do the night before the zoo trip, to help get out all her energy. You havenât told her this yet, but you did ask her to let you know when she hears a song she wants to dance to, so you can look into it.Â
You donât want to add anything inappropriate after all.Â
You look down at your daughter as you walk, a little smile coming to your face. Sheâs watching her feet, and it looks like sheâs trying to step on her own shadow without making a big deal of it. Youâve seen her do that before or try to walk one foot in front of the other. You arenât the fastest walker - you tend to stroll - so you never worry about her games slowing you down.Â
Plus, if it wears her out, all the better for you.Â
You are about half a block away from your building when Minnie suddenly halts and whirls her head back towards the bodega. Curious, you stop as well, wondering what she has heard now.Â
âWhat is it, sweetie?âÂ
âThereâs a hoot-hoot!â She whisper-yells, looking up to you with the biggest, purest smile.Â
Your heart practically bursts from your chest with love and your smile grows to match hers, âA hoot-hoot? Can you tell me about the hoot-hoot?â
She nods, then you watch in slow motion as your daughterâs absolute joy morphs into that of horror and before you can even process what is happening, something is ripping you away from Minnie by the base of your neck.Â
You are pivoted left and slammed face first into the brownstone staircase you were just walking by. Your vision goes spotty as pain erupts from the center of your forehead - confusion and panic begin to consume you.Â
All you can hear is your daughter screaming in fear.
You have no idea what is going on, but all you know is Minnie needs you, and that ignites something deep and primal in your chest.
There is something grabbing and pulling at your top and your purse - which you wear crossbody - and you realize someone is trying to mug you. Fear fills you as you struggle to get away, break free, but whoever it is is stronger than you and keeps slamming you back against the stone.
âMommy!â
The thing inside your chest bursts to life when you hear Minnie cry for you and you kick backwards best you can, trying to dislodge your attacker. Your foot catches their knee and both of you go tumbling to the ground. You hit the cement hard only to be crushed under the weight of your assailant as they land on top of you.Â
You refuse to stay still, squirming and trying to army crawl out from under the mugger, but they easily overpower you. Hands wrap around your throat from behind and you are temporarily overwhelmed by the stench of body odor and filth. You are pressed down into the sidewalk for a split second before being yanked back and you just barely manage to turn your face as you are violently forced back down again. Gravel and glass tear at your cheek.Â
Something tangles itself into your hair and your head is once again being pulled back, but you wonât give up. You reach back over your head and grab onto the arm of the person attacking you. You feel flesh, so you curl your fingers and dig your nails in the best you can.Â
There is a feral, pained yowl, then your head meets the ground again, but it doesnât stop. They are trying to push you down into the sidewalk using all their weight, like they are trying to crush your skull.
You kick and buck as hard as you are able to, thrashing desperately in an attempt to break away. The pain is quickly becoming all encompassing, but Minnie is crying, and you need to get to her.
You try to get an arm under you, to try and help to push you up, but there is so much weight and all of it is centered on your upper back and skull.
You canât get up.Â
You canât get to Minnie.Â
You canât save your daughter.
There is a deep and furious roar, then the crushing weight of your attacker is ripped off of you. Â
You gasp for breath as you quickly roll onto your side, terrified you're going to be pushed back into the dirt and smothered. Your vision is swimming, blurry and half black, and everything, everything hurts.Â
âDADDY!âÂ
Your eyes snap open and you try to push yourself up onto shaky arms. You try to turn around to find your daughter, but your body doesnât want to obey anymore, and you collapse back onto the ground. You force your legs to move the best you can, trying to roll until you can find your daughter.Â
âMinnie..â you try to call out but you arenât sure if any noise escapes your lips.
âMommy!â
The darkness wraps itself around you and begins to drag you down into its depths. The last thing your mind catches before it switches off is your little Mouse, screaming for you.
âMOMMY!â
âMOMMY!!â

Hiya there!
I have two questions,
first, what if Katsuki was whipped over a popstar reader?
Also, who's the character in your profile? i wanna maybe draw her.
Much love
-Kovu :>
hello this is LOOOOONG overdue @kovu-bunnbunn im soooo sorry ! i didnt rlly know how to get to this at first cus i've never done hc's before, but either way i hope you like it ! also tumblr just randomly ate this so i had to restart...yay.
p.s.: the character on my profile is my oc ryoko ! she's my mha oc, i'd be so super flattered if you decided to draw her ! (also idk if you couldve guessed but shes my oc x canon katsuki ship I KNOOOOW shocker)
katsuki has literally every single piece of merch he can get his hands on
vinyls, album records, posters, accesories and t-shirts but he never wears them he hides them somewhere in his room so you don't find out he has them.
(you do find out eventually.)
he gets so giddy on the inside when you give him limited edition stuff and that's always something he shows off
"woah man that's limited edition ive been LURKING for that !" "yeah well apparently you haven't been lurkin' hard enough cus I HAVE IT--"
he shows up to all your concerts and somehow he manages to be the loudest one there lmfaooo his ass is NOT on mute.
if you ever take him backstage he's so awkward cus he doesnt know anyone so he just sticks to you (not like he doesn't on the daily)
at most he'll nod at people in greeting (he's kinda scared he'll start stuttering)
but he's scary lookin so the staff n others think he's just protective over you
for sure your other bandmates / staff think he's your personal bodyguard LOLOLOLOL
but nope turns out he's just a loser lol
if you sell photocards as merch or something like that best believe has ALLL of them
collectin em like his phone isn't already filled with pictures of you
his storage about to burst and it's still not enough for 'im LOLOL
he for sure has a secret fan account that entirely revolves around you.
he defends you with his LIFE on there too he's one of them fansđđđ
he has a different playlist from specific albums depending on his mood, so whatever playlist he's on there's always at least one song of yours on there
he has a seperate 'bad boy playlist' that he has so you don't find out he's a hyperfan
one time you guys were sharing earbuds in the bus while his playlist was on shuffle and he'd accidently added one of your songs on his edgy dark n brooding cool guy playlist.
needless to say he was more than embarrassed, damn near MORTIFIED and didn't look at you for the whole bus ride đđ
gets so flustered when he finds out songs you've written were while you thought of him or were dedicated to him. he gets so blushy about it but he's such a show off
like whenever he hears a song meant for him, he smirks about it to himself and no one understands why but he really doesn't care cus they don't need to understand
cus it's something between you and him <3
all in all, he loves you and your music (and your merch) and he couldn't be prouder to call himself your boyfriend <3

Learning to Love Slowly
Jason Todd x Reader All Chapters AO3 Just a short, old chapter that I found in my drafts while I get some new ones typed up!!
75-Intoxicating and Addictive
You wondered if Jason knew how intoxicating he could be because he did so much to make your heart skip a couple of beats for it to be a coincidence.
For instance, when he would cook for you. Most times, it was dinner or breakfast since he would go to work right after or just be getting in. Heâd stand there in his gym or under clothes with earbuds in as he worked his culinary magic with that focused expression on his face. It was like he didnât even notice the way his shirt would ride up a little in the front, revealing a little bit of that happy trail that you desperately (and pathetically) wanted to follow. Youâd sit there, hands in your lap as you pictured all the ways he could look even better while cooking. Most of these images were of him naked, but you wouldnât dare say that out loud.
What made it worse was when he brought you the plate, a smile on his face that you just wanted to kiss, and asked in a sweet voice, âYou hungry, sweetheart?â
You could only nod half of the time because you swore if you opened your mouth, youâd say, âYeah, but not for food. Take off your pants.â Now, that would have set the bar of your dignity shallow. Then, he would sit there and ask you about the plans for the day or how your day had been. And, he would listen. Which, truthfully, was sexier than any happy trail or look he could give you.Â
Another way he left you speechless was when he was gearing up. It was hard not to be flustered by the way the gun straps hugged his thick thighs or his cheeky grin that only came out when he was being Red Hood. When he was feeling really good about himself, heâd pull you in close to whisper all the things only Red Hood could say in your ear. Sometimes itâd be teasing comments on how good you looked, but, a majority of the time, he was being protective in an almost cheesy way.
âDonât forget to lock the doors, you hear,â Heâd say into your ear, his gloved hands holding your hips from behind. âMake sure the windows are locked, too.âÂ
âAnd if I donât, whatâre you gonna do to me then,â You would ask playfully.Â
You couldnât see Jasonâs face under the mask, but you could hear the smile on his lips by the way he chuckled. He didnât say anything, only squeezed your ass as he put his face on the side of yours in some faux kiss. As enchanting as it was, you wished you hadnât realized the subtle goodbye was if the worst came for him that night. Nonetheless, it made the butterflies in your stomach flutter about and you would return the gesture by pinching his ass in return.Â
Then, there were the more intimate moments, when he was making you his, that left you breathless and wanting. It could have been how you felt all of him at once that you were addicted to. You would feel his scars under your palm as you gripped at his biceps for some type of purchase as he slowly rocked into you. The smell of his sweat and minty breath took over your senses as you delighted in how close he was. You leaned toward the touch of his curly black hair every time he lowered his head to peek between your bodies, and then enjoyed his lips as his head came back up to kiss you. To be so close to a handsome man; to have him make you his was a thrill. It left you wondering how long before you could get close to him like that again.Â
It eventually would all come down to one thing, and that was that you loved Jason. There werenât days you wouldnât think about him, nor times when you didnât picture his touch. You wondered how he got so etched into your skin, but you knew one thing; you didnât want it to go away any time soon.
