REVIEW
A Wraith at Midnight
A Historical Romance Anthology
Ghost stories can be read any time of the year. This book has eleven historical romances written by some authors that I have read and enjoyed before and others that were new to me. This type of collection is a great way to find a new author you might like to read again.
THE CAT WHO WALKED THROUGH WALLS by Mary Jo Putney
Childhood friends who had feelings for one another parted and thought they would never meet again end up at the same party and with the help of some magical felines manage to find their HEA.
THE NIGHT WE MET by Chastity Bowlin
A bit of a gothic feel to this one. A woman wanting to get away, a man who needs a governess for his niece, chemistry aplenty, and some negative energy to overcome.
GHOSTLY LADY OF BRAEMORE by Susan King
Friends that love one another and plan to marry suddenly are broken apart by a curse – they do manage to later work together to try to fix the situation so they can marry.
MIDNIGHT TEMPEST by Mary Wine
Forced proximity with some travel between the real world and a ghostly one that intrigued me and really enjoying the story that saw two people perfect for one another fighting for life and for one another.
LADY VENGEANCE by Jade Lee
Scottish miss who had a rough childhood is in London to find a husband but takes on the role of Lady Vengeance and in so doing meets the perfect man for her.
I have more to read and am looking forward to doing so soon.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dragonblade for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Jamie Dornan in ‘The Fall’ / HELEN SLOANE/NETFLIX
Jamie Dornan reveals Fifty Shades fame led to a 'stalker-type' situation
"The more I can block that out, the better it is for me and family," he said.
Though he generally manages to fly under the radar, Jamie Dornan has had to deal with a potentially dangerous fan in the past.
Dornan, 41, rose to international fame when he played billionaire-with-specific-sexual-tastes Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy. And while the films opened some doors for him, they also put him in the path of some unhinged fans.
While speaking with British paper The Independent, Dornan revealed that the fame and rumors surrounding the franchise led to a disturbing encounter. “I’ve been involved in situations where it’s impacted my family," he said.
I had a situation... a stalker-type situation before Covid. That was f-ing scary. Someone turned up at my house when my kids were there. It was not something... The more I can block that out, the better it is for me and the family.
Dornan also addressed ongoing conspiracy theories that he and Grey costar Dakota Johnson have a secret relationship and family (in reality, Dornan has been married to Amelia Warner since 2013, with whom he shares three children).
I tried to put walls up around [the fans], to really try and not let that in. I’m pretty good at just blocking any of the noise associated with whatever fandom is – not letting it affect me, or more importantly my family.

Jamie Dornan in 'Fifty Shades Freed’ / EVERETT COLLECTION
His time in the Fifty Shades franchise was marked by boffo box office combined with behind-the-scenes strife, largely due to author E.L. James' differing creative vision from original director Sam Taylor-Johnson. But Dornan also revealed that his past history as a model meant he was often only considered for romantic heroes like Christian Grey in his early days as an actor.
“All I’d ever get to audition for was, you know, ‘the count who comes in on a f-ing horse and ravages the woman’,” he remembered. “I’d come from modeling, so I thought those were the only types of roles I was going to do."
The opposite has proved true with Dornan playing everything from a serial killer on The Fall to a lovestruck himbo in Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar to a dad fighting to keep his family together during the Irish "troubles" in Belfast. He's hoping to avoid projects that might bring him the level of notoriety of Fifty Shades in the future.
Tumblr media
Jamie in ‘Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar’ / CATE CAMERON/THE CW
"There’s never going to be anything like Fifty Shades again," he said. "It felt very much like its own thing, particularly because it focused in and around sex. But there are obviously other jobs that bring insane scrutiny, like superhero stuff, or f--ing James Bond – any of that stuff. I’ve done pretty well to avoid that sort of s-- so far."
Though he also doesn't rule out the possibility of finding himself in a project of that nature at some point. “I think if you’re an actor of a certain standing, who has a certain sort of recognition, you’re going to be in those conversations,” he noted. "I’m not saying I’d never do anything super high-profile again, or a big [intellectual property] with all eyes on it. I probably will. But I’m also really happy with where I’m at right now."
"I can live a pretty normal life for the most part," he concluded. "I can sit on the Tube and I’m fine. I’m an ambitious person, and I have a fire under me, but in the last 10 years or so, I’ve realized I don’t want big peaks all the time. That doesn’t interest me. I’m happy to keep ticking over as I am, then one day just disappear and play golf for the rest of my life."

Winnie Harlow.
The supermodel Winnie Harlow has a skin condition named vitiligo, a skin condition in which patches of skin lose pigmentation, Because of this Harlow has never fit into the cookie cutter model mould, but she has proudly embraced her authentic self, frequently speaking out about beauty standards and her condition in interviews becoming an inspiration to those who are affected by this condition.
Model Activist Winnie Harlow often speaks out about diversity and equality in fashion and the impact it has on so many individuals she has stated being the first model to walk a Victoria secret show was a huge honour and made her feel powerful.
“Any step toward a truly equal and diverse modelling industry is great, but for a huge brand like Victoria’s Secret to include models with skin conditions like vitiligo is a huge step to normalising it in the entire industry. “I hope that there’s many more in the future. We need to work toward diversity, not for the sake of it, but to make it the norm. And I hope that this is a big step toward that.”

Filmes Ruins Que Adoramos
Tumblr media
Filmes Ruins Que Adoramos. 😄
Filmes Ruins Que Adoramos
- “Diana: The Musical” (2022):
Tumblr media
- “A Barraca do Beijo” (2018):
Tumblr media
🎥🍿 Read the full article

Naps, Hooks, and Cookies: How to Tackle the Editing Process
Tumblr media
Whether you wrote a collection of short stories this May to celebrate Short Story Month, or whether you finished a draft of a novel during our last Camp NaNoWriMo session, editing is the next step of the writing process. Today, NaNoWriMo novelist E. L. Johnson offers some advice on how to fall in love with the editing process... or at least, how to learn to live with it:
Hello Writers!
So, you’ve written a novel. You’ve gotten to know your characters, you’ve created story lines and navigated your way around plot holes to come out the other side. Now it’s time to edit.
Here are my tips on how to tackle the editing process:
1. Take a Break.
Take the month off, seriously. You’ve spent time getting close to your story, now you need to step away from it. Do the dishes, reorganize your closet, spend time with your friends, and binge watch a TV show. In short, do anything and everything but spend time looking at your novel.
Once you’ve taken a break and hopefully a well-deserved nap, it’s time for...
2. The Big Picture
Make an outline of your story, scene by scene. If outlines don’t help, try writing out the synopsis (people hate doing it, but it will be helpful in the long run).
Here you should figure out what doesn’t work. Go over the big overarching plot. Refer to your outlines or synopsis and restructure your scenes so they make sense.
3. Characters
Do you have too many characters? Or three characters named Sarah? Are they essential to the plot or can you cut out or merge two? Too many characters can confuse the reader.
Consider your characters’ voices. Do they all talk the same? Are they very polite and sound like they’re from the 19th century when they should be talking about spaceships or the Watergate scandal? Give your characters unique voices.
4. Build the Tension, Keep the Pace
Think about tension and pacing. Does your first chapter end with a cliffhanger? Make sure your chapters flow and connect well to each other. Do you need long descriptions if it’s a car chase? If you’ve got a dramatic scene then shorter, choppier language can build the tension.
5. The Nitty Gritty
By this time your writing is solid. The story flows, the characters aren’t all named Sarah, and you can spend some time on the nitty gritty details.
I’m talking line by line analysis—where you read every single line and check that it works. Fix the language you use. Check for typos and grammar mistakes.
Look for certain words you use again and again. Do a search for passive words like ‘was’, and ‘were’; thinking words like ‘wondered, thought, pondered,’ and empty modifiers like ‘really’, ‘very’, ‘extremely’.
Show, don’t tell. You’ll hear this time and again. Take a close look at your writing. Show me the depth of your main character’s despair, don’t just tell me ‘he was sad’.
6. Reading Time!
Print it out and read the story. Use that red pen!
Fix the story and give it to a friend to read, or your publisher, editor or agent. Take any criticisms of the story on board, but above all, remember that you are the author and this is your work. You don’t have to agree with everyone.
Once you’re ready, take a few days off and read it again, out loud.
Bring it to your local writers’ circle and read a few pages, get others’ input. Share your story with a few trusted folks in return for a coffee or cookies. People will do a lot for cookies, especially homemade ones.
And when you can’t stand to look at it anymore, you’re done. It’s time to put it out there in the world.
Remember, you’re a writer. You’ve got this!
Tumblr media
E.L. Johnson is a novelist with too many history degrees. Fleeing the colonies to study medieval history, she arrived in England and discovered a love of crumpets and cream teas. Now working in London, she writes during her commute and gets paid to tweet, when she’s not singing on stage or running a book club. Johnson’s first historical fantasy novel, Wolf’s Blood, began as a NaNoWriMo project. Published by Azure Spider Publications, it is available now on Amazon. Read her book or follow her on Twitter.
