Hi babes, do you think Mickey likes to read? Everyone seems to be either in the mickey reads tons camp or the mickey doesn't find it interesting camp and I'm interested in your opinion.
Personally I think he never actually got the chance to really sit down with a good book? I also think he probably prefers audiobooks bc he can do something with his hands. Mickey starts out listening to murder mysteries and transitions into classic literature. He is shocked to find he enjoys George Orwell and the picture of Dorian grey makes him fucking cry.
Alicia my love! hey hey how are you?
Okay so I think I've said it a couple times already but I believe Mickey is dyslexic to some level. And we know he dropped out very early in high school and I think that's partial why he did. (Canonically, he is heavily coded with dyslexia if you ask me)
It's not that he's unable to read but I think it takes a lot of energy out of him, and Mickey doesn't like not being good at something. So I think he used to stick to light reading when he was young.
I think everything changed in prison, the second time, with Ian. I think Ian likes reading and did a lot of reading in prison. (he has books in his side of their cell)
My headcanon is that Ian started reading to Mickey. Sometimes really deep / complicated books that Mickey even had to explain to Ian as they went through it. I guess it started out of boredom and liking Ian's voice, but Mickey got really into it. He finally 'read' so many books he only heard of. I suspect they had a harry potter binge at one point.
Once they got out, life got busier and Ian doesn't read to him as often. But then- Mickey discovered audio books and podcasts. That was a huge moment for him. He could finally really enjoy books that he likes.
Like you said, he probably prefers audiobooks bc he can do something with his hands. He can do whatever he wants and still listen. He can drive and listen, calculated shit for the business and listen, wait for Ian outside the supermarket and listen.
Mickey starts out listening to murder mysteries -> I'm with you on that! Even though I think sometimes he's think about it too much out of the criminal perspective, like, "oh, what a dumbass! who runs someone over and doesn't check for hair behind the grill? what is this criminal 13 years old?" but he's also very good at piecing together the foreshadowing clues. I can see him enjoying John le Carre books...
and transitions into classic literature. -> Hmmm interesting. I don't know if I'm totally sold on that one. I feel like Mickey would prefer something quick paced, that he can related to, that he 'believes'. I kinda see him reject anything that sounds "too old timey", you know?
I can kinda see him discovering gay young adult books, just for fun. Maybe those are the ones Ian reads to him, and they kinda think about themselves in that book, like an alternative universe for them, if that makes sense.
But yeah, in general he would probably listen to modern (from the last 50 years?) but deep books in my opinion.

I don’t really have anything I can say that hasn’t been already, your brothers betrayed you in a way they don’t, refuse to, understand.
I’m an Autist who kind of hops between interests and methods of consumption, and while I can’t say I understand how much it hurts (Thankfully, I suppose), I want you to understand that not only are you right to hurt, to resent, to hate if you wish, but there are plenty of people who’ll stand by you.
We haven’t interacted before, I followed you like I follow most Artists I see. I lurk and Like your posts here and there, but y’know what? I’m here for you, just like so many others.
I’d offer to punch them in the face for you but I don’t think you’re Swedish and I’m more likely to break my own fingers than anything else if I tried.
Thanks. I do appreciate the support ! I'm just tired ahah.
I'm also on the spectrum, and when I love something I know I tend to ramble and get a bit obsessed. My other siblings are not on the spectrum, or at least have never shown signs/been diagnosed. So idk. Maybe they can't understand why I'm as hurt as I am because they literally can't. Because I'm different and I guess that makes it my fault . Even though I've tried to explain they judt. They don't understand
And that was one of the main reasons. I was being annoying and talking about it to much, all the little details and glitches and how much I loved the story and art style.
It sucks. A lot.

dyslexic!Mickey thoughts
telling left from right can be really hard for us dyslexics. My sib handled this by tattooing one of her hands (we're both dyslexic, my dad is also dyslexic), so I'm thinking Mickey uses his knuckle tatts to figure out left and right and starts to think in terms of "fuck" and "u-up" directions
While left vs. right is hard, for some reason spatial awareness and the ability to retrace steps are often really good in dyslexic brains (not all! but this is certainly the case for me and my dad. don't ask us HOW to get somewhere, but we can get there very well). Mickey literally has the Southside memorized and knows how to get everywhere quickly.
Mickey is primarily a kinesthetic learner but also an auditory learner. I like to think he eventually gets into podcasts and likes to either draw or work-out while listening to them.
his handwriting is NOT good, but he can type WICKED fast without even looking at his fingers - it's all motor memory. That said, he relies on spell check and Ian to make sure he hasn't messed anything up. Speech to text is his FAVORITE thing. Ian sends voice messages to Mickey for really important stuff to make sure he can understand it.

Debbie wouldn't vote for Biden.
She'd be calling for a general boycott of the election and and overthrow of the two party system.
Mickey wouldn't understand what she's on about but once he does he'd be on her side.
no way did i just see a video that said debbie would vote for trump and mickey would vote for biden… have you seen either of them? debbie would 100% vote for biden and mickey just wouldn’t vote

New shameless hc: mickey is dyslexic, like obviously not diagnosed, he probably doesn't even fully process there's anything going on, he's always had a hard time reading and writing, it's whatever, he dropped out of school in like 9th grade, he can read, it just takes him longer, but he's always been good at math, he's never had any issue solving a math problem, it comes to him without having to think, so what if he spells Gallagher wrong, Ian knew what he was trying to write, he's a little embarrassed when he spells some shit wrong (i.e. the open relationship scene were Mickey doesn't want to show Ian his paper even though he obviously wants to be monogamous)

Headcanons I just came up with
Bradley can cook like a damn boss
Jake has two really bad vices. He has the occasional cigarette and a decent amount of good top shelf whiskey
Bob plays Scrabble
Mickey is a dancer (bro shakes ass)
Natasha is from a military family
Javy's favorite loony toon character was Wil. E. Coyote hence his call sign
Reuben really likes sandwiches (yes because he has the same name as a sandwich)
Pete wakes up and says "God has let me live another day again and I'm about to make it everyone's problem"
Penny at one point has ginger hair
Iceman hated the '86 Flyboys because they always would play Ice Ice Baby when it came out
Amelia is a band kid and I will die on this hill
Hondo has GREAT music taste
Cyclone has a sparsely furnished place
Warlock played D&D at some point in his life
imma add some more if you don't mind
Jake has a big fat crush on Michelle Pfeiffer
Mickey loves watching Bluey
Bob has the neatest handwriting (including Natasha)
I don't agree with your Coyote origin story for his callsign he got his callsign because he ate raw meat once when he drank too much
Jake is dyslexic. period. he's always been a math kid
Bradley loves learning new languages but he's terrible at remembering
Jake comes from a loving country family that owns a ranch. he then knows how to ride a horse but never told the rest of the daggers. he misses riding when he's in California
Mickey is a great cook, he learned everything from his dad
Coyote is an orphan, so when he met Jake at the Top Gun program (he's younger than Jake) he felt like he found the brother he never had
I LOVE THEM SO MUCH

ash's september 2024 reading round up
find all the books and fics i read (or didn't read...) this month under the cut with a link to the synopsis and my reviews/ratings attached :)
this is just for fun! i'm not a professional, i just like to read <3
booklist:
Summer Reading by Jenn McKinlay(18+!)
• review: this was a solid read. nothing incredible, but definitely better than some of the other crap i've read this year lol. i enjoyed the dynamic between the fmc - a dyslexic chef named sam - and the mmc - a librarian named ben - and the interesting relationship between someone who hates to read and someone who's life revolves around books. honestly i was really interested to see how this played out between the two of them, but like one week into them fooling around he begins to read a book aloud to her and the conflict is magically solved. sam just loves audiobooks now and i wish the author had done more with that. both sam and ben have goals they're striving to reach and i love that ben is able to see his through to the end, but the reader is kind of left wondering about sam's and i would have loved for that threat to have been tied up, but overall this was a cute read. my only real issue with this story was the quality of writing. there were some parts that were super cringe and were clearly written by a millennial emulating the 'how do you do fellow kids' meme that i could've gone without... anyway. i really enjoyed the relationship exploration between sam and her budding teenager brother. after not being in each others lives for a bit, i thought their bonding over the summer was adorable :) would've loved to read a book just about them tbh. neither of the main characters were the kinds of characters to write home about, but overall i did enjoy the progression of their relationship. just kind of a middle-ground novel.
• rating: 3/5 seasons of the bear that taught me all i know about cooking
fic list:
assorted works of @ceruleanmusings <3
look around your world, pretty baby
Blood Diamond; Year Four
i could always write literal essays on your work i swear to god but these two works this month really got to me as per usual. the first mickames one shot for james canon bday was so freaking adorable. i had literal butterflies in my stomach like i was there on the date with them... despite the urgency of the time crunch, which you did exellent in making it seem like it was somehow slow and fast at the same time, god i read this like three times over. mickey and james are just my favorite ;-;!! and blood diamond always hitting in the feels of course... this one in particular really got to me though. the combination of brooke's annoyance with james the last few chapters really came to a head here at the hair salon. he's just a kiddo!! let him play in peace!! and then her figuring out a way to potentially exploit his singing talent... i'll wring her neck i swear. as always tysm for sharing and tagging me in your works 😭 i could read them forever and ever and ever <3
2. assorted works of @partiallypearl/ @praetoravila <3
it's nowhere close to closing time
all over again
be my weekend lover (but don't be my friend)
can i have this dance?
lolive kissssss
you got me paralyzed
you know all my deep dish
this is such a STACKED LINE UP AUGH!! from the beginning with it's nowhere close to closing time... kogan... save me.... i love the first chapter introduction to both the characters and the setting. it's been so exciting theorizing how the story will play out from here and i can't wait to read more!! and of course... all over again with olive my beloved... i just can't get enough of logan and olive and their fucked up little relationship. jo's party chapter literally had me shitting my pants ngl and you already know im thinking of lolive on a daily basis. they're my roman empire i stg... the other three lolive on shots had me by the neck too - from the conversation with kendall 👀 to the quinceañera chapter to their KISS augh im too obsessed for my own good... and saylors introduction one shot!!! ahh!!!! you always have such interesting and well-rounded ocs i'm so jealous!!! i can't wait to learn more about saylor and their relationship with both kendall and lucy :)) macie's story too... she and katie are so adorable. i love the dynamic you've set up between the two of them as they both navigate hollywood!! obsessed as always. im up in your dms literally every single day gushing and i wouldn't have it any other way!!!!!!! <3
3. assorted works of @selangkir <3
mrs. knight one shot
girl time rush (anniversary reread🙏)
iconic work as ALWAYS!!!!!! i truly think your character interptetations of btr/side characters/ocs are so unique and bring such a fresh perspective to the story! the mrs. knight one shot, on top of being hilarious, began to expand on her pretty one dimensional characterization in such a short story and it blew me away. unmatched creativity!! lord knows she needed the j anyway if im being COMPLETELY honest. and i cannot believe gtr turned one year old this month what the fuck!! what the actual fuck!! i swear i've read all three chapters about a bazillion times. ty for being so accepting of roxy and using her as a vessel to tell your story too <3 i'd be lying if i said i wasn't so inspired by sabrina carpenter rn i already have another chapter draft of my own cooking in the google docs..... <33
4. assorted works of @inkameswetrust <3
the windowsill pt. 4
the windowsill pt. 5
oh LORD such incredible updates to this sweet story. these chapters always pack such a punch! i expect nothing less from kames fan #1... im obsessed with the continued relationship between katie and kendall in pt 4. btrtv lacks so heavy on their sibling-ness so i always love seeing it expanded on in fic! and JAMES AND KENDALL GOING OFFICIAL AOAJFOBOBGA i had knots in my stomach! you've also so clearly set up stakes and kendall's future fears it's so genuine and just real it hits so hard. pt 5 with brooke had me almost throwing my phone at the wall if im being honest. the way she spoke to kendall was bonechilling and i'm nervous yet excited for their future together <3 never stop kamesing the world needs it so so sos sooo bad !!!
5. assorted works of @naquey / @ithinkyouhealedmyheart
ghostwriter chapter 1
ghostwriter chapter 2
hi <3 welcome to the reading round up! i love your story sm i'm so grateful to be here for the very beginning of kenonnie and their sweet relationship. ronnie is such a cool character! there is so much depth and dimension to them and i love that every single chapter we learn something new about her!! from her relationship with addy and callie (who i also ADORE and can't wait to learn more about) to his struggles with his father's health... god... the amount of thought you put in is clear and i'm just astounded! the second chapter was also super cool too; i love how you took existing characters and tweaked their relationship so we could learn more about how you view the two of them. i'd never thought to write something with just kelly and rebecca - it's so inventive, just like the (spoliers lol) other chapters you've published since <3 tysm for sharing your writing with us, i'm so excited to see ronnie's journey progress!!!

I’m back with flowers since I keep blowing up your inbox 🌺🌸🌼🌻🌷
I’m also a dyslexic (and adhd) Mickey believer! Do you think he, Ian, and/or the Gallaghers ever realize it? I could see Liam putting it together maybe?
Could you see Mickey getting into audiobooks? Maybe Ian throws a podcast on in the ambulance and then next thing he knows Mickey’s listening to everything and anything? (He’s probably one of those who does them at 2x speed and understands it perfectly-I’m so jealous of those people!) 🦖
Heyyyy 🦖 anon! you're always welcome in my inbox!
I can totally see Liam just figuring it out and thinking everyone already knows so he just says something in a btw way... like Mickey and Ian really get into puzzles during quarantine and Ian tells everyone how good Mickey is in puzzles. Liam just says "Actually a lot of dyslexic people are pros at solving puzzles, so it's not so surprising." And that catches everyone's attention.
I can also see Ian noticing it early on but not knowing the right term for it. (I mean come on, he made 2 spelling mistakes in his Ian Galager tattoo)
He’s probably one of those who does them at 2x speed and understands it perfectly -> lol not me listening to a podcast at 1.5 speed while writing it. My brain works in a weird way.
Maybe Ian got him into audiobooks after the get out of prison! I think it could have started with Ian reading him books out loud in their cell. Ian enjoys reading (we can see quite a few in his side of the cell) and Mickey loves Ian's voice. And more importantly it was something to do together.
I think that sparked something in Mickey's brain, that he actually enjoys book if he can hear them. I feel like Mickey likes multitasking, so it's perfect that he can drive and listen at the same time. He loves feeling productive, you know?
Please come again 🦖!

I've been writing my stupid crossover fic and thinking a lot about parallels between Griddlehark and Gallavich, but I've held off posting about it because it's niche, but if I can't go feral about my hyperfixations on Tumblr, there's no point to anything.
(also I wasn't sure whether to post it on main or my Gallavich side blog, so in the spirit of "fuck it" I'm posting here and I'll reblog)
Anyway...
So, like with my I Want the Gun Back Harrow fic, I'm writing a Gideon the Ninth scene with Ian and Mickey as cavalier and necromancer.
The parallels between Gideon and Ian were pretty easy to tease out when I stopped giggling at myself. They are both fierce and goofy. They both make puns and have difficulty playing it cool. They are both absolutely convinced of their own hotness even though they're not socially overconfident. Both struggle to believe they're worthy of love. They both want to run away to join the army, even if they're running from different things.
Mickey and Harrow are, on the surface, a lot more different. They're both verbally abrasive, yes, but Harrow is academic and eloquent... Both things I don't think many would accuse Mickey of. Mickey is physically tough and quick with his fists. Harrow has the constitution and figure of a wet noodle. But I guess she's just as likely to lash out, just with skeletons.
Both have complex relationships with their parents and a lot of trauma, but when it comes to media that I love, that applies to almost all my favourite characters.
But when you get down to it, one really important thing that Mickey and Harrow have in common is that they are Survivors. Moreso even than Ian or Gideon. They do what they need to to survive their circumstances.
This makes them appear like very different people, because they are in radically different environments.
Harrow needs to be the best necromancer ever, which requires raw power, yes, but also intense study and academic determination.
Mickey needs to survive his dad. He needs to hide parts of himself and be tough, smart with money. He needs to be violent and angry because it's expected. It will keep him safe.
Harrow implies she wants to survive to justify the circumstances of her birth, or to see if the Body wakes, but that's not all of it. Plenty of people would have followed Priamhark and Pelleamena because it's too much and she was a fucking pre-teen who had the knowledge and expectations of an adult thrust on her.
So she's a survivor. If she was growing up with a homophobic asshole Dad on the Southside of Chicago... She would do what she needed to. Maybe she'd be more like Mandy because of gendered expectations. But I reckon she'd be like Mickey because she's a lesbian and I definitely don't see any version of Harrow who is still recognisably Harrow following Mandy's path wrt relationships; Another way she's like Mickey is in the "untempered devotion to her ridiculous redhead". I can see a Harrow that gets involved with the family business in a way Mandy doesn't, because it would be a way of making herself useful and staying safe.
And Mickey? He dropped out of school... But he was in an environment where that was expected. We don't know how good he might have been at school with parents who encouraged him, or teachers who didn't see him as a burden and pile their prejudices on him as a Milkovich. You can bet they didn't give him time. I've seen a lot of people headcanon Mickey as dyslexic, and I can see that... Struggling teen drops out of shitty school because they're never getting the help they need is all too common a story.
So put him on the Ninth. Put him in a situation where that academic excellence is not only encouraged but expected and necessary for his survival? I don't think he'd be exactly like Harrow. I don't see him memorising and reciting Ortus' poetry, for example. But he would absolutely study necromancy until he was the best at it. He wouldn't do it exactly the way Harrow does... Maybe his approach would be more instinctive than scientifically rigorous. But he would do it. (And he would absolutely learn to use rigor when required).
So after spending way too long thinking about it, I have reconciled my necromancer Mickey with both canon Mickey and with Harrow.
The only issue I have is that I can't imagine a version of Mickey where Terry has already died and he isn't boning Ian (pun intended) within about six minutes of them both hitting puberty.
I've found a way around this in my fic (I'm making Terry into Crux rather than Priamhark). But they would totally bang in the pool scene regardless. Even if I could come up with a reasonable person to put as The Body (like, who the fuck? There is no one else for Mickey. For hilarity, maybe it's Byron).
Anyway. I'm done for now.
*put the blorbos back in my pocket*
*holds them tight*

This is my little introduction post to the Shameless/Gallavich fandom here on tumblr, hi all! And thank you to @callivich for making this nice way to ease into the fandom :)
Name: Scurv
Age: 28
What made you fall in love with Gallavich? I initially started watching Shameless to figure out what all the hullaballoo was about these two boys always appearing on my dash was. Gallavich was the only thing I knew about Shameless going into it, lol. And wow, I was really blown away by how it was acted, honestly. The chemistry and the lack of any hesitance on Cameron and Noel’s ends were really amazing. The rep was different too, I hadn’t seen anything like that before. I’m originally from a small town and was exposed to some pretty violent homophobia when I was younger - Mickey’s experience with homophobia felt like my experience was seen a bit and I really appreciated that too.
How long have you been a fan? Three months, lol. Went off the deep end fast.
Favourite Gallavich moment/scene? Mickey’s“Guess what we been doing, Daddy?” coming out speech is perfection. But also the van scene, I’m a sucker for a Spiderman kiss.
Favourite Shameless character apart from Ian and Mickey? Mandy!!! I am forever sad that she wasn’t involved in later seasons. I also love Lip and Carl. I looooove the dynamic between Lip, Ian, and Carl in season 7.
Do you write or draw or make edits? Feel free to link to your work! I write!! I have a fic, Come-ups and Coincidences. I’m currently writing chapter 5 :)
Favourite type of Gallavich fics? Are you into angsty canon type fics or maybe fluffy one shots, perhaps you like dramatic canon divergent stories or interesting AUs - share what tropes/genres you like! I like canon extensions, fill-ins, and divergent stories the most but I also fuck with a good AU. I also write AU so you know, gotta like it. I love fluff, smut, overall sweet fics. I enjoy some angsty fics but there needs to be a promise of a happy ending.
Favourite Gallavich quote? I’m honestly really bad with quotes and it’s the end of a long week Hmmm. You know what, it’s Ian saying “Mickey...” at their wedding. Or “You do have nice legs, though.”
Anything else you’d like to share about yourself? I’m dyslexic and firmly on the dyslexic Mickey train!! Another reason I got into Shameless was to connect with my little sib. She’s about a decade younger than me so connecting can be tricky. She’s gay and bipolar and relates a lot to Ian and it makes me really happy to know there’s a character that brings her so much comfort.

I had other plans but I’m tired so it’s drabble day!
Breathless
@galladrabbles
Mickey had always thought it was stupid, the way girls talked about being breathless.  Like suffocating on an experience they hadn't asked for was something special.  He knew there was nothing romantic about the pain of not having air, except--
Except with Ian.
Running through alleys with Ian behind him, chest burning.  Laughing on rooftops with Ian's hands on his sides, stomach aching.
Staring into eyes that hold the world, hand in hand, unable to breathe.
"I do," he manages, a breathless whisper from his heart.  And as he shares what little air he has with his husband, he understands.

Please please please write Mickey’s reaction to Ian having black hair when he walks into the prison cell thank you xxx
Probably not what was expected, but here's them talking about it that night!
See Me In the Mirror (on AO3 or continue below)
“Still can’t believe this shit,” Mickey mutters late that night, as they lay together on the too-narrow bottom bunk.
“Believe what?” Ian asks, too preoccupied with tracing fingers over Mickey’s chest to really care.
“I come in here expecting a fucking firecrotch,” Mickey jokes, “and you’ve gone and hidden the ginger for the first time in your life?”
Ian shrugs, shoulders barely moving against the mattress. Mickey gets a hand up into his hair, and he lets him.
“Almost turned right back around,” Mickey says, softer, letting Ian’s close-cropped curls slide through his fingers. “Told ‘em they gave me the wrong cell, took back my cooperation.”
Ian chuckles, and smiles. Still can’t quite believe that Mickey is there, that Mickey turned himself in, that after all of his bad decisions he ended up with a reward.
“Had to do something,” he says, eyes slipping closed to the rhythmic motion of Mickey hand on his head. “Was gonna run, you know,” he adds. “Maybe join you down in Mexico.”
Mickey laughs.
“You’d never have made it past the state border,” he says. “Black hair or not, you’ve never been good at flying under the radar.
Ian disagrees. Thinks he’s done pretty well at it for most of his life. The middle child that fades into the background, the man doing just well enough not to raise brows. Even half out of his mind with mania, he’d made it farther than anyone expected.
He doesn’t bother to argue. It doesn’t matter. What matters is Mickey, and his face close to Ian’s on the pillow, and his hand in Ian’s hair.
"Why black though?” Mickey asks, tugging at dyed strands. “You miss me that much?”
"Hmm?" Ian murmurs, whacking at Mickey's arm before settling his hand there instead.
"Couldn't see me in person," Mickey explains, "so you made it so you'd see me in the mirror?"
Ian opens his eyes. Blinks Mickey into focus, the faint freckles on his nose so close they seem to dance, never quite settling.
“No,” he says honestly, and wonders if he should have lied. But Mickey doesn’t frown, and he doesn’t pull away. He just lies there tangled in Ian, fingers stroking through artificially dark hair.
“I like that, though,” Ian muses, leaning into the touch. His thumb strokes Mickey’s wrist, once, twice, and he doesn’t let go. “A little piece of you on me where everyone can see it.”
And he does like it. Rather a lot, actually. That after years of hiding, and years of being apart, a stranger could look at him and see Mickey.
“What about you?” he has to ask.
It’s Mickey’s turn to hum in question.
“You ever miss me so much you tried to dye your hair red?”
Mickey snorts, the hot air of it blowing against Ian’s face.
“Nah,” he says, “I’d have to bleach it first. Helped Mandy do that once,” he adds with a grimace, “and trust me, it’s not worth it.”
“Not even to feel close to me?” Ian asks.
“Never,” Mickey confesses. “Kind of avoided anything that color for a while, actually.”
Ian feels like he should be upset by that, maybe. That Mickey avoided reminders of him when they were apart. And he must think about it a little too long, let his face show a little too much, because Mickey is cupping his face in his free hand a moment later.
“Not like that,” he assures, and leans in even closer. Their noses brush together, and Ian’s vision is filled with an endless, hazy blue.

I’m wondering, would any of Ian’s siblings snoop around his new apartment with Mickey?
If this wasn't a prompt...sorry it is now.
Curiosity Killed the...Carl? (also on AO3)
Carl wasn’t supposed to just be walking into Ian and Mickey’s apartment.
He knew this, because when he asked for a key a few weeks before, they said, “Carl, we don’t want you to just be walking into our apartment.”
But if they didn’t want him to slip into their apartment, after using Liam’s emergency key to open the door just a crack, they should have been a little more specific. Shouldn’t have expected him to read between the lines.
Besides, he needed something. Several somethings, actually, that had apparently ended up in Ian’s things before he moved. Things like Ian’s army knife, and Ian’s sleeping bag, and Ian’s coat. Things that he really should have asked Carl before taking.
So he slid inside on socked feet, his boots hanging from his hand by the laces, and let the door click shut behind him. He waited, just for a second, even though he knew they weren’t there.
Then he dropped his shoes on the floor, turned on all the lights, and went searching for what he wanted.
He hit the kitchen first. Checked the table, pushing through random pieces of mail addressed to Mickey, to Ian, to Mr. and Mr. Gallagher. The last one was altered, Milkovich inserted right above in Mickey’s handwriting, with a little heart scratched in red between the names.
Nothing he was looking for. Not even a gift card or a scratch off he could nab, just boring bills and furniture catalogs and a reminder that Mickey needed to go to the dentist.
He moved into the living room, next. Checked under the sofa for the missing knife, but found only a dead battery and some really stale popcorn that he spit right back out. A bunch of used tissues, too, that he left right where they were. And between the sofa cushions, just a few nickels, and weirdly worn-out tie he had never seen either of them wear, and a bottle of…
He threw the bottle back where it came from. Lube. Ugh.
Carl sat back on his heels, and sighed. He’d thought finding what he needed would be a little bit easier. But he wasn’t a quitter—anymore, at least—so he stood and headed off down the hall.
He made the probably-wise decision to bypass the bathroom, and headed right into the bedroom. Opened the closet—just shirts, and jeans, and some weird strappy leather thing he didn’t look too close at. Opened the drawers—just underwear and socks, and more underwear, and more underwear, and more…
Yeah, okay, they had a lot of underwear. Kinda weird since he was pretty sure they shared that stuff.
He was just getting down on his knees to peek under the bed, sure of finding something, when he heard the front door close.
The front door that he was pretty sure he had closed already.
“Yo, you leave the lights on?” Mickey asked from the entry, and Carl froze. “Thought I told you to stop wastin’ money when we ain’t home.”
“Oh please,” Ian said back, footsteps moving into the apartment proper. “Like you don’t keep it way too warm in here so you can lose the layers as soon as we get inside.”
“Don’t hear you complainin’,” Mickey pointed out, and then two sets of footsteps were moving down the hall.
Carl stared at the open bedroom door. Then at the closet, still ajar, too shallow to hide him. The window, locked shut, too high to crawl out of.
The footsteps kept coming. Carl panicked. And slung himself under the bed just as Ian and Mickey entered the room.
“Man, we left shit a mess this morning,” Mickey mused as he came in, stopping just shy of the bed to look around. Carl pushed himself further toward the middle, hand slipping on something rubbery and familiarly shaped that he refused to look at.
“Well, we were running late,” Ian admitted, his shoes moving toward the open closet door. He shut it with a click, bent down to pick something up off the floor. “You know, since someone wouldn’t let me get out of bed.”
His voice was sly, and smug. Carl could see the edge of his smirk until he straightened, and kind of wanted to puke. Even more so when Ian haphazardly threw whatever he had grabbed under the bed without looking, and a pair of dirty boxers almost hit him in face.
“Come off it,” Mickey returned, laughing just a little. Carl freed himself from his brother’s nasty underwear and turned his head to the side just in time to see Mickey’s rugged boots stop between Ian’s clean sneakers, way too close to be standing a normal distance apart.
“You’re the one wouldn’t stop touchin’ me,” Mickey accused, low and sultry. “And would you look at that…you’re touchin’ me now, too.”
A chuckle. The sound of lips meeting, and parting. Carl squinted his eyes shut, tried to block it out—
Then his brother’s belt hit the floor next to his head.

can i have mickey talking to ian about ian's "how do you know you love all the versions of me" stuff after they are engaged? just putting ian's fear to rest once and for all, please!
By request I'm now crossposting same day (or trying to) so read below or on AO3. Happy New Year everyone!
Auld Lang Syne
The Gallagher house is louder than ever on the eve of the New Year. Music and talking and cheers, echoing between walls that have seen more celebrations than anyone inside remembered.
And Ian, standing alone in the kitchen, nursing his single beer and watching his family through the entry to the living room.
“Damn, these Gallagher parties are really somethin’ else,” Mickey says as he slips around and into the kitchen. He makes straight for the fridge, opening it with a creak to grab an Old Style from the pack on the door.
He opens it one-handed, kicking the door shut, and takes a long swig before joining Ian at the counter.
“What’re you hidin’ in here for?” he asks, nudging Ian’s shoulder with his own.
Ian makes a show of steadying his drink, earning the crinkle at the corner of Mickey’s eyes that he loves.
“Just needed a little quiet,” he says softly, taking another sip of his own beer. He turns his attention from his family to his fiancé , reveling in the fact that he can.
“It can be a bit much, this time of year,” he explains to Mickey’s raised eyebrows. “Don’t get me wrong, I love it,” he adds, “but it’s been a while since I really had something to celebrate.”
Mickey smiles, a soft simple thing that makes Ian heart thump harder.
“You do now, though,” he says, and it isn’t a question. Just like it isn’t a question when he reaches over, takes Ian’s beer right from his hand to set it on the counter behind them. Like it isn’t a question when he slots himself into the space it leaves between Ian’s arms, and wraps his free hand around Ian’s waist.
It’s a casual intimacy that they’ve had a lot of lately. But that doesn’t make it any less special.
Ian smiles down at Mickey, down at the man that will be his husband. Wonders how he ever thought that wasn’t right.
“Glad we get a fresh start, that’s all,” he says, leaning back against the counter. He tugs Mickey closer between the spread of his hips, and bends down to meet Mickey’s smile with his own.
Except Mickey isn’t smiling anymore.
And he isn’t nestled in the curve if Ian’s hips anymore, or the fold of his long arms. He’s backing away, and frowning, and reaching for the booze he’d set down when Ian pulled him in.
“Mickey?” Ian asks as the other man chugs the rest of his beer. “What did I say?”
Mickey finishes his drink, scowls, and reaches for Ian’s abandoned bottle.
“Fuck fresh starts,” he says sharply, downing that one too. “Our first start was fine.”
And Ian is lost. Truly lost, for the first time since Mickey said yes. And though he knows it shouldn’t, the sudden uncertainty makes him angry.
“Fine, huh?” he prompts bitterly, pushing off the counter. “That what you call quickies in your bedroom while your dad was locked up?”
On anyone else, the expression on Mickey’s face would have been a wince. But on Mickey, it’s a challenge.
“Freezing our asses off at work cause it was the only place no one would see,” Ian continues, not sure why he’s arguing not sure how to stop, “that was a good time for you?”
“And what if it was?” Mickey counters, going to the fridge to grab a new beer. “What if I ain’t got a problem with that?”
Ian snorts.
“Then you don’t have a problem with the fact I was fucking Kash,” he says, and hates himself for it. Goes on anyway. “Or that I ran off when you got married.”
Mickey slams the fridge door shut without getting his drink, stares at the childish art on the door like it has the winning argument written within.
Ian knows it doesn’t, because that argument is already on his lips.

My #1 post of 2022
I tried to do a prompt but my brain is like molasses tonight.😭  Have whatever this is instead.
Ian wakes up with a snort, his chest compressed by Mickey’s entire body weight.  He shoves at him urgently until he rolls mostly off, only his head and arm remaining in place, and gasps in a breath.
“Not that I don’t love this,” he manages once he gets some air into his lungs, Mickey already grabbing hold again, “but what’s going on?”
“You were snoring,” Mickey grumbles, and holds on tighter, tugging Ian just a little too firmly toward him.
“So you tried to suffocate me?” Ian asks, even as he gets an arm up to hold Mickey in turn.
Mickey, who mutters something without lifting his head, and doesn’t bother to open his eyes.
“What was that?” Ian asks.
“Said I like it,” Mickey mumbles into his chest, rubbing his face into the soft cotton of Ian’s sleep shirt.  “Makes you all rumbly.”
“Rumbly?” Ian repeats, and then laughs.
“Yeah, like that,” Mickey answers sleepily, his head bouncing with the movement of Ian’s chest.  “A fuckin...massage pillow.”
“Can massage you better than that,” Ian offers suggestively, snaking a hand down Mickey’s back.
“Mmm, later,” Mickey says, and presses his nose to Ian’s breastbone.  “Do the rumbles now.”
And Ian laughs him right back to sleep.

i have the dumbest question about natural.
I also have bad crams like reader. And it's not good to mix pain meds[ you get high / just giggly then fall asleep ]
-What would the guys do if reader did that?, her pain is gone but now she just giggly and have energy.
I can see mickey being the cute dumbass he is giving her the wrong pain meds getting 2 different ones. Old package, new package situation but diff meds [ not good if you dyslexic and they look the same :c ]
Sorry if you don't do this types of asks, love your writing
Hi nonnie! Thanks for the ask!
I think reader would definitely run to August first. He's better than any painkiller out there, anyway.
I doubt the vamps keep anything stronger than paracetamol and ibuprofen around the house. Vampires don't need pain meds, and reader can definitely get by on that combo.
Still, asking August is the preferred choice, so unless he's away from home, that would be the solution :3

Since canon established that Mickey doesn't nessisarily love reading do you a) think Ian read to him and b) think he has a favorite book Ian reads and c) what is that book
im a member of the dyslexic mickey gang. theres also a fic out there i really like where ian gets mad at mickey for not responding to his texts and he has to admit that he cant really read and ian makes him prove it so he tries to read a paystub and it makes me 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺😭😭😭😭😭 so yeah i definitely agree that mickey doesnt read much.
idk i dont really see him wanting ian to read to him other than business emails and long texts and stuff? but i want ian to read to him 🥹 if ian read books to him... maybe the classics? yknow, shit you read in school and stuff. i see ian enjoying those books but i think mickey would complain the whole time lmao. i can see mickey liking nonfiction. again hed probably just watch a documentary, but if ian reads to him it would definitely be nonfiction stuff. no boring autobiography shit. wild historical events or maybe true crime. stuff like that
