The cast and crew help themselves to catering after successfully accomplishing the table read. The adjacent meeting hall is decked out with various offerings, and everyone is scattered across several tables.

You've just gotten a plate of your food, Matt in tow, and the two of you settle down at one of the small circular corner tables that happened to have only two seats.

"Anything planned for the weekend?" you ask him.

"Why, love?" he asks, smirking. "Do you have something in mind?"

You have to bite the inside of your cheek to keep from smiling due to his blatant charm. You know you've been doing it too much.

"Well, I wanted to invite some of you over for drinks on Saturday night, and Emma and Liv will be busy going out of town, Phia has a date with her boyfriend, Bethany's got an audition, and I still have to ask the others really -

" - I'm in, why not?" he says.

"Oh!" you don't hold back your smile then. "That's great! I think Fabs might come, too, but only for a while since he promised Bella -

"What about Ewan?"

"What about me?" Ewan retorts suddenly, making his presence known. Unbeknownst to you and Matt, he had dragged another chair across the carpet, in order to join your table.

He twirls the chair in place in one hand, and plops down on it. He is positioned somewhat in the middle of yourself and Matt, but he is angled closer to you, laying a hand on the back of your seat. He sips his can of Coke for a second, then he repeats, "What's going on?"

"Oh, mate, just - " Matt starts to explain.

"It's nothing," you find yourself cutting him off, growing pissed off by the way Ewan just inserted himself in the conversation. His tone doesn't leave much to be desired, either. You add, "We were just talking about the script. You did well, and we're just happy for Aemond and where his story is going."

Matt is confused as to why you don't just invite Ewan as well, but he notices the tense air between the two of you and the way your shoulders stiffened at his proximity. He decides to let it go.

"Though of course, your scenes are just excellent this season, aren't they?" Matt points to you. "Especially the ones with Daemon."

Ewan has to bite the inside of his cheek to keep from cursing, due to Matt's apparent audacity to flirt with his girl.

"Mhmm," you smile, "I do get some good ones. I must say I really liked - "

Ewan interjects, "Alyna did have two scenes with Aemond towards the end. And even in those, she's got a more charged dynamic than what she has with Daemon."

"Alyna and Aemond?" Matt scoffs. "Come on, mate. She wouldn't fraternise with the enemy!"

Ewan shakes his head, "I wouldn't say no, I mean, what she and Aemond have is something... chemical, you know? Riveting. The tension is electrifying, so to speak. Whereas with Daemon, it's more tame and... familial."

"Uhhh - " you open your mouth to say something, but nothing comes out. You mull his words over, and you know he's right.

But Matt counters with, "Is that so? Well, you know what they say about Targaryens. They like to keep it in the family. So there's nothing wrong with Daemon and Alyna acting familial, if you know what I mean." He laughs dryly, before throwing you a cheeky wink.

You respond in kind, snorting at his humour while shaking your head fondly.

"Mmm." Ewan simply hums, before taking a long, slow sip of his drink.

He thinks of The Battle Above The Gods Eye, and how it will be such an insane and challenging scene.

Daemon against Aemond?

I've been trying to peer pressure my bff into watching Much Ado About Nothing with me (my fave Shakespeare comedy), and he wanted to have everything in our house set up first etc etc. But he agreed to watch it yesterday and we had a lot of fun absolutely cackling at, well, almost everything.

I do think it's one of the most purely funny Shakespeare plays that are still really good, especially when performed/directed well. We were watching the Joss Whedon version—yes, I know, but I bought it back when it came out and it's still my favorite—and Nathan Fillion's Dogberry is an utter delight, and honestly there are a bunch of script and directorial choices that make it my favorite.

I particularly like Amy Acker's Beatrice: she can be charmingly witty, vulnerable and hurt, sweet and supportive, an adorable dweeb, and ferocious and hard as nails. The way her face changes in the grand romantic scene with Benedick is fantastic—there's this moment where you just see her features harden before she says "Kill Claudio" that I love. I also really loved how often she's visually framed with Hero in the later part of the story: sometimes literally holding her but often visually paired with her in a way that highlights her priorities.

Benedick is pretty good in this version, as well—not as impressive as Acker or Fillion, I'd say, but I like how Benedick initially seems to be a rather callous asshole only for him to be gradually revealed as the most profoundly decent man in the play—not that the competition is steep, but still—especially with regard to women, and how he's, well, also an adorable dweeb until it really matters, at which point he turns deadly serious. And I really like their dynamic once the story gets rolling.

I also love that it doesn't back away from how shitty Claudio is while keeping to the text of the play. He and Don Pedro seem the gentler, sweeter, more romantic characters early on, but the text itself becomes an indictment of them (and Leonato!). My best friend, who hasn't read this/seen another version of it in years, was just like "She's not wrong!" when Beatrice told Benedick to kill Claudio, and shouted "STAB HIM!!!" when Benedick confronts him :D

I really like the performance of Leonato, as well—the way this thus-far affectionate, mild seeming patriarch becomes the most proximate threat to Hero (it really feels like he might snap her neck at any moment) and only seems able to conceive of Hero as a potential victim when told so by other men is terrifying. And Hero herself has a sweetness and dignity but also charm that I enjoy in a character who can be a bit limp in performance.

I do prefer Keanu's Don John though, for peak unpopular opinions.

Of course, I was also reminded of my Pride and Prejudice is to Much Ado as Clueless is to Emma theory, haha. The Much Ado elements are thoroughly overhauled, rearranged, and modernized in plenty of ways, but I think P&P still draws a lot of raw material from it. And I think it's interesting to look at not just Elizabeth and Darcy as Beatrice and Benedick(/Don Pedro, since Darcy combines elements of both), but things like how Austen works to recuperate Claudio in Bingley (not altogether successfully IMO honestly, but a valiant effort that works well enough) and displaces the worst elements of his character onto Wickham. It's not the only influence but it's very striking.

(This is not an original observation, lol; the first time the comparison was made in print afaik was in a March 1813 review of P&P, which had only been published a few weeks earlier at the end of January.)

See now this is classic Friends to Lovers, Emma and Harriet if gay, perhaps, Bend it Like Beckham core definitely. Sofia by Clario inspired. Nettles doesn't leave Rhaena out because she's without a dragon and the same happens inverse. Sapphic confusion however, like Rhaena doesn't understand at first why she feels that way.

7. Nettles and Jace.

Now for the Mr Knightley and Emma Woodhouse of our time, the Kate and Anthony of Westeros. The potential for her just not listening to him when he tries to tell her how to ride a dragon. Anyways I just need to start to get a baseline story for my girl by the time the show gives her to us. So we have a general sense of direction, I'm tired of the mischaracterization of my baby. She's smart, resourceful, Cunning, Fearless, and not entirely loyal. She also curses, enough for it to be a character trait. Please remember this for her, I'm tired. I also know that Daemon loved her but she's too much fun as a character to limit her to him romantically in all her fanfictions, it is an interesting narrative to explore while we don't have exact answers but he gets romantic ships with anyone. my takes on what could have made ouat a world class show

genuinely forever thinking about how GOOD once upon a time could have been drives me insane so i thought i'd compile a list just for shits cause it's been on mind ever since tiktok started giving me ouat edits again.

the gloomy yet dreamy aesthetic they NAILED in season 1 but that disappears from the rest of the show? that shit would have slapped if they'd had the artistic vision to maintain it, especially for the modern day stuff.

the way they created this super interesting cast of characters in season 1, and abandoned most of them in favor of stacking more characters on top of them that were less unique instead of fleshing out compelling storylines for the people they already had.

a world-building thing that would have been so interesting was when they were all transported back to the enchanted forest in season 3, were there major changes in the political and social make up of the enchanted forest? i mean, they had a democracy in storybrooke, and suddenly they're supposed to go back to being ruled by a series of mostly greedy and evil monarchs? I WANNA SEE A FAIRYTALE WORLD REVOLUTION. not to mention all the different technologies they know about now, medical advancements, inventions, etc. they know about enough to try and reverse engineer at least SOME things. do women start wearing pants instead of dresses? do they dress modern now instead of wearing old timey outfits? is it a mix? is there a feminist movement in the enchanted forest now?

i also can't help but feel like snow and charming stagnate so much as characters past season 2, maybe season 3. like the snow 'evil-ish' arc that they did with killing cora was so interesting and i wish that had actually had more consequences.

they didn't explore the charming family dynamic ENOUGH. cause I just feel like the way snow treated emma versus how charming treated her were so disparate and it was never addressed in a way that felt satisfying to me. like after the curse was broken it felt like there was this huge distance between Emma dn Snow that was never bridged whereas i felt like Emma and Charming actually had a relationship that developed over teh course of the show.

either they need to remove the weird male SA stuff or embrace it fully and talk about how horrible it was, because the way graham and robin were treated in the show like their SA wasn't that important was genuinely fucked

The 1995 Sense and Sensibility. To me, it strikes a good balance between being a good adaptation and making the story accessible to audiences that haven't read the book, and it's one of the few that seems to understand Austen's humor and romance.

Anne and Wentworth. Their personalities balance each other perfectly.

8. Least favorite couple

Colonel Brandon and Marianne are so frustrating to me, mostly because of how Austen writes them. They fall victim to the Marian Halcombe Problem--if you spend the whole book showing a man and woman having tons of conversations and developing a good dynamic as equals, I'm not going to believe that he's in love with her sister.

9. Most hated foe of a heroine

Isabella Thorpe is a terrible person, and I can't think of any redeeming qualities or circumstances.

I hold a grudge against the 2005 Pride and Prejudice, because it did nothing to make me understand the appeal of Austen, and it's a horrible adaptation, but it has such a huge influence on fandom's interpretation of the novel.

Also, every once in a while, I remember the scene in the 2008 Sense and Sensibility where Brandon gives Willoughby a "stay away from my daughter" speech, and I shudder over how creepy it is.

Basically any scene of Fanny Price's childhood.

Henry Tilney's introduction scene in Northanger Abbey is just pure distilled joy.

I love Tamsin Greig as Miss Bates in the 2009 Emma, because I did not imagine her talkativeness as stemming from anxiety, but it was fun to see her played that way and to experience a different interpretation that still felt valid.

I'm also going to take this opportunity to mention that I love Mrs. Jennings and Sir John Middleton in 1995's Sense and Sensibility. I just grin through every scene they're in, and I especially respect them after learning that they were the only cast members that Emma Thompson didn't have to write random extra dialogue for in crowd scenes, because they just naturally knew how to talk like Regency characters.

23. Favorite Austen male casting decision

I love Johnny Lee Miller as Mr. Knightley in 2009 Emma. I don't know if he matches the character in the novel, but I love how he portrayed the dynamic with Emma.

Also, Hugh Laurie as Mr. Palmer in 1995's Sense and Sensibility is perfection. And Greg Wise as Willoughby is beautiful and charming enough to do his job of fooling you into thinking he could be the romantic lead before he proves to be an utter cad.

Mrs. Jennings. Hands-down. So vulgar, nosey, and over-the-top, but beneath it all, so kind and friendly and helpful. I love her so much.

But I believe in her skills.

I don’t know why but his description physically is a lot like my partner and his attitudes are like my partner enough. I really couldn’t imaging anything else… pic obviously is not my boyfriend but it’s close enough.

Richard: Any brown haired, boring looking white man.

I know, I know. This has gotten very vague but I think Richard is just the epitome of mediocrity and is not deserving of any special casting. Maybe just someone who doesn’t have a grating voice.

I knew I had a 6th sense about romance, it was almost like it was a radar. If anyone had chemistry together, I would be able to see it immediately before everyone else. I could see potential dynamics between people, and I could always match couples with tropes.

Though there was one pairing I liked, who always got me off guard- Michael and Solrin. They always looked like they hated eachother and I thought that too, though I'd see this look in their eyes when they argued that something was going on between them, and it made me confused for the first time this year and incredibly curious about them. They always argued, usually small disagreements and glares full of hate but... There was always something off about it...

Today was Monday, 14th of October. The halls were slowly getting decorated with fake black cats and cobwebs and pumpkins, the classrooms were getting spooky fake spiders and a cauldron that contained mints and other candy that replaced most typical mint/candy jars. The teachers sometimes added really crappy Halloween puns into their teaching, and no one would admit it but it was honestly such a nice time.

It was before class started, I had gotten on my laptop and was going through my Tumblr, all I could smell was cupcake frosting as I went through my feed. the smell from the dehumidifier was on by the teachers desk at the front, and in the corner of my eye I could see it change colours from red to orange to yellow to green, you get the idea. When Sydney came by and sat next to me, I shut my laptop and turned to her.

"Hey Syd" I smiled at her, she smiled back and waved wildly at me as she sat down.

"Hey! Wanna hear something fun?" She spoke low, leaning in towards me, she looked around us before continuing.

I listened intently, although I never liked hearing gossip that much- when it came to Sydney, it at least related to me or someone we knew.

"So apparently from Emma: she was waiting by Solrin's locker this morning when Michael was power walking through the hall, holding a hand to his neck and silently cursing. He bumped into her, apologized, and went into the bathroom."

Okay. This was interesting, Michael holding his hand to his neck? Suspicious... I kept listening.

"Apparently, uhm, because he lifted his hand when he bumped into her, there was like glitter there? Like a glittery lipstick looking mark..." Sydney continued, whispering even quieter. "And when Solrin came to her locker and greeted Emma, her lipstick was the exact shade of what was supposedly on his neck, glitter colour and all..."

I had to restrain myself from gasping because I wasn't exactly expecting THAT. Did they have some confusing tension? Yeah, I did see that sometimes, but I didn't expect something between them ACTUALLY going on. I thought for the first time at Berry, I'd have been wrong about signals between them.

She sat back up right, and nodded to me.

"I can't say, but it would make sense why they look like they're flirting when they're fighting... Also!-" Sydney got a little charm that had a tiger on it out of her cardigan pocket, talking about how she got it at a thrift shop yesterday and how she adored it. It was very very cute, and I really wanted to hear her and her thrift shop adventures, but I couldn't take my mind off of that surprise information earlier... I had to think of a ship name for them, as they could very well be together behind the scenes and nobody knew it!... I didn't want to think of prying into their lives, but damn it! they were leaving treats out for the curious cat in me- and I wanted to eat them all and figure them out!...

Hmm... Maybe SolChael?

It was October 18, 4 days after Sydney told me about that SolChael moment. It was on my mind, I couldn't stop thinking about it as it was still so shocking... I couldn't tell anyone else though as I felt it should be somewhat private.

It was another day, period 6, last (technical) class of the day. It was english, and we were tasked with finding a partner and re-enacting a dramatic part of any act in 'Romeo & Juliet' as it was our subject content for this quarter.

Solrin was partnered up with Caleb, and they were doing a really dramatic reading of 'Act 1: scene 5'. They were doing it in the hallway outside, with a few others, and they looked like they were having fun. When they came to the kissing part, they were just holding hands and moving their heads and saying "mwah mwah mwah" before laughing their heads off at how stupid it felt. I was seated right by the door so I had a 1st class viewing of it all. I didn't really care much though as I didn't really feel like acting that day.

Michael didn't seem so either. He was sitting next to me, face on the table and resting. However, I noticed how he would clench his fists tightly when he heard them laughing and having fun outside...

"You okay Michael? You seem a bit tired..." I asked, trying to be subtle.

"Myra, shush please, I'm trying to shut my brain off..." He responded dejectedly.

I playfully tapped the back of his head.

"Wow, I feel so much better, thanks Myra..." He gave a thumbs up, before sitting up and going on his phone.

I didn't know how to feel about him seemingly having jealousy. Or was he just incredibly annoyed hearing the repeated "Mwah"'s?... Who knew... Because I didn't.

He did glance up though at them two times before keeping his eyes glued to his phone...

The curious cat in me was about to get run over by a truck at this point of how much I was itching to interrogate them about how they were behind the scenes. UGH.

It was lunch, and I was sitting back with everyone at our table. It seemed short of 2 people, but I didn't know who.

I was eating a fruit bowl and a Capri Sun, looking at everybody. There was Caleb, Aiden, Sydney, Emma, Luis, Maria, and... Where were Solrin and Michael?

where were they? Ever since October 14th, they've always been having coincidences with eachother. They definitely had something going on now, and my thought only intensified when Solrin came by with her lunch box. Her face flushed. Wearing her dark grey leather jacket over her tank top and distressed denim shorts. It was a bit cold now, it made sense...

She looked like she was out of air though. Her face was red and she was breathing slightly heavy, she was telling everybody that she was running from the bathroom, to her locker, to here and it was taking a lot of time... But I couldn't bring myself to believe her. She was touching her collarbone I think through her jacket a lot, her lipstick was slightly smudged, and she looked a bit dazed. I didn't want to ask though.

"I'm guessing Michael is spending time with Wes & co?" Caleb asked, rhetorically, I couldn't help it though.

"You mean, Wes & *Koh*?... Okay I'll stop before I stop." I went back to my fruit bowl.

"Thank fuck for that, I don't want to see his ass" Solrin responded bitterly

"Solrin, please, let's not today..." Emma spoke up. Solrin looked at her, before sighing, and apologizing.

She looked so worked up in a way, and because of Michael and her being late, I couldn't help but think that maybe they had a little moment before going their separate ways...

Jeez... This SolChael affair has been getting to me. I love you, but I'm kind of mad you told me about them Sydney, now I must go through with staying my subtle investigation on them.

23rd of October, and there were TOO many coincidences of events happening between SolChael that I had seen by accident, that were confirming my thought process.

Michael had accidentally pulled out Solrin's usual lip balm from his bag during English right beside me on Monday, and for lunch they were both late again and also Solrin was wearing jeans that looked an awful lot like Michael's jeans that got shredded when he slid on concrete after a skateboard fail, and this was only Monday.

On Tuesday, they had a really intimate stare down as they were 'talking' in homeroom and giving jabs at eachother, I glanced only once and felt my face flush with how it felt like I was intruding on them. They're so together that it's obvious.

Today was Wednesday, and apparently there was a big Halloween party that was being held. Everyone in our year was invited, and I decided that I'd go to catch a glance of them, just one more incident and I could put my SolChael investigation to rest.

On the day of Halloween, I dressed up in my costume. Big black boots, green skin, long fake nails, big dress, and a nice witch hat. I picked up my cauldron themed bag, and held it in my hand before leaving my house.

Getting to the party, it was pretty tame. The music was clearly from a 2014 playlist on Spotify, the refreshment table was just a mix of sickening sweets and savoury snacks, and there were only cordials for drinks. Though there were a bunch of game tables playing uno and monopoly, hearing the yells of betrayal as I wandered around. Many complimented my outfit, as I traversed the house.

My legs were aching after a good 40 minutes of looking at everything, I needed a break.

Going over to a door and opening it, it revealed a nice chill out room that had been bags in the corner and- OH.

To my surprise, I walked in on Michael and Solrin kissing aggressively. Her arms over his neck, his hands tightly holding onto her waist, they were in their own world before they heard the door softly hit the wall. Looking at me with wide eyes as I did to them, yeah, no doubt about it was it confirmed they were together or at least had something going on.

I backed away and went shut the door, until Solrin called out for me. Pushing Michael off gently and going over to me.

"Wait!" She looked at me, a bit nervous, "Myra, I know this was a lot to see, but can you... Can you please not tell anyone?... We're..."

She looked back over her shoulder at Michael, I couldn't see his expression since she blocked my view of him, but she looked back at me with a sheepish smile.

"We're a bit complicated... So please... Just keep this like an oath to yourself, okay?" She then gently shut the door on me.

I hadn't expected to find exactly what I was looking for, well more than what I was hoping to find anyway.

I kept my promise though. I kept their relationship like an oath and spoke nothing about it. No hints, I even dismissed allegations about them from people.

My curious cat has died, but it revived from the satisfaction of knowing that they were indeed together... In a way at least.
