Key Factors to Consider While Choosing a Tattoo Machine
If you want to buy a tattoo machine, which machine should you choose? Have you ever thought about that? In this blog, we will discuss about these things. We will understand the world of tattoo machines, things you must consider before buying a machine, and some benefits you can get for choosing the right machine. Try to read the full write-up carefully to learn more.
Tattoo components are hugely important for any tattoo. Unless you have the best tattoo items, you can’t create the best designs possible. If you want to buy tattoo items like dynamic tattoo ink in Australia, you must visit a popular online shop and buy the items you need. If you need any help, consultation with an expert can help you.
Items We Must Check Before Finalizing Our Tattoo Machine
If you are going to buy a tattoo machine, the following tips are going to help you-
What is Your Style?
There are different tattoo styles in this world. Before choosing the tattoo machine, you should know about your style. Depending on your tattoo style, you can choose the tattoo machine. If you choose the right machine, it can improve your tattooing journey.
How Much Experience Do You Have?
Have you enough experience in making tattoos? Depending on your experience level, you need to choose your machine. If you are new to tattooing, you can start with a rotary tattoo machine. Once you have gained some advantage, you can switch to coil tattoo machines.
Your Budget
Budget is an important factor to play when choosing tattoo components. For example, if you need to buy a wireless pen tattoo machine, your budget must be greater than if you want to buy a coil or rotary tattoo machine. Decide your budget first, and then choose the machine that fits your budget.
Weight of the Machine
The weight of the machine too is important. New tattoo artists can’t handle much weight, so it is better to choose a lightweight tattoo gun. One major disadvantage is that when the weight is low, it is difficult to control the machine. You need to have a balanced weight machine that you feel comfortable in your hand.
Precision
Finally, we need precision. When you are making a permanent tattoo, you must be precise. Choose the best iron tattoo machine and start your tattooing journey. Especially when you are making fine-line tattoos, having precision is a must.
Benefits of Using the Best Tattoo Machines
Here are some of the benefits you can have for choosing the right tattoo machine-
You will feel much more in control while making the tattoo design. It can help you be consistent at your work.
If you choose any wrong tattoo machine, you will become tired too fast.
A proper tattoo machine needs to be versatile so that you can use the machine to create different tattoo styles.
A reliable tattoo machine will last longer than usual tattoo machines.
There are many more benefits to choosing the right tattoo machine. We have discussed a few ones here in this blog. You should consult with an expert to learn more.

What Tattoos Symbolise Strength?
Tattoos have long been a medium for personal expression, often encapsulating deep meanings and beliefs. Among these, symbols of strength hold a special place, resonating with individuals who seek to embody resilience and power through their ink. This article explores various tattoo designs that are widely recognised for their symbolism of strength, a theme that resonates deeply in many cultures, including Australia.
Lion Tattoos
The lion, known as the king of the jungle, is a powerful symbol of strength and courage. A lion tattoo often represents not just physical power but also attributes like leadership, nobility, and bravery. The design can vary from realistic portrayals to stylised interpretations, each conveying the majestic and formidable nature of this magnificent creature.
Phoenix Tattoos
A phoenix, the mythical bird that rises from its own ashes, is a profound emblem of resilience and rebirth. In tattoo art, the phoenix symbolises overcoming adversity, emerging stronger from challenges, and the eternal cycle of renewal. The imagery of a phoenix is both dynamic and visually striking, making it a popular choice for those who have endured and triumphed over hardships.
Dragon Tattoos
Dragons, though mythical, hold a significant place in many cultures, symbolising strength, wisdom, and protection. A dragon tattoo can be designed in numerous styles, from the intricate Asian dragons to the bold medieval European ones. They are often chosen by individuals who wish to convey power, authority, and a fearless spirit.
Warrior Tattoos
Warrior symbols, such as Spartan helmets or samurai warriors, are potent icons of strength, honour, and resilience in the face of adversity. These tattoos often reflect a warrior spirit, embodying the qualities of discipline, courage, and endurance. They can be depicted in various artistic styles, each highlighting the warrior ethos in a unique way.
Oak Tree Tattoos
The oak tree, with its sturdy trunk and expansive branches, is a universal symbol of strength and endurance. In tattoo art, an oak tree represents stability, longevity, and steadfastness. It’s a subtle yet powerful symbol for those who value resilience and unwavering strength in life's journey.
Tattoos symbolising strength are more than just aesthetic choices; they are deeply personal emblems of an individual's inner fortitude and resilience. Whether it’s the regal lion, the resilient phoenix, the mighty dragon, the valiant warrior, or the steadfast oak tree, these designs offer a way to express one’s inner strength and perseverance. At #1155cc; font-weight: 400;">Celebrity Ink, our experienced artists can help bring these powerful symbols to life, creating tattoos that are not only visually stunning but also rich in meaning and symbolism.

“I’ve got something to show you.”
It’s Saturday night and they're in Max’s apartment when Max says it. Their apartment now, Daniel supposes, since he can’t remember the last time he spent a night in his own.
Max had picked Daniel up from the airport smelling sickly sweet with excitement, like over-ripe fruit. It was all Daniel could do not to shove his face in Max’s neck right there in the arrivals terminal. He hoped that what he could smell wasn’t slick, didn’t know if he could make it to the car without touching Max if he knew he was leaking into his underwear for Daniel.
Daniel had placed a hand on Max’s bouncing leg as soon as they had the doors to Max’s Aston Martin shut. He rubbed a thumb along the inside of Max’s thigh, getting high off the shivers running through Max. He always was so responsive for Daniel.
“How was Australia?” Max had asked, voice trembling.
“Good,” Daniel said, hand climbing higher, “but I don’t want to talk about my trip.”
“Oh,” Max’s mouth had dropped open, a sweet little O.
“I want to talk about how good I’m going to make you feel when we get home.”
Daniel had reached then for the button of Max’s jeans, but Max moved his hand from where it had been white knuckling the steering wheel to stop him.
“Not until we are home, please,” and Daniel had grinned and thought, sure, what’s a little more waiting?
But now they’re home, and they’ve only just started kissing, Daniel pushing Max up against the front door as soon as it closed behind them. He knows what he can smell is slick now, syrup sweet in the air between them, knows Max is making a mess of himself already.
He wants to see, to taste that mess, but Max is stopping him.
“What do you want to show me, baby,” he asks between pressing kisses along Max’s throat. He won’t be able to do another long trip away from him, not with the ache he’s felt since he left only now easing when he’s got his mouth on him.
Max pushes Daniel’s chest and he steps away easy, though it feels anything but. This is Max’s show, always has been, and Daniel will let him show him what he wants so Daniel can give it to him.
“You might not like it but-“ Max’s eyes are searching Daniel’s face, “it’s something for you.”
“Baby,” Daniel soothes, “I’m sure I’ll love it. Why don’t you show me, yeah?” He slips his thumb into Max’s mouth to give him an excuse not to answer with words. Max nods around his fingers, sucking softly.
Then he’s reaching for his jeans, unbuttoning and pushing them down his thighs. They’re so shiny already, Max so wet and Daniels mouth waters. His t-shirt was the first thing Daniel got rid off so now he’s stood in front of Daniel, naked.
Daniel doesn’t notice it first. Then he does and he has to pull his wet thumb from Max’s mouth, trace it across the dark ink on Max’s hipbone.
He’s got a tattoo of Daniel’s bite.
“Maxy,” Daniel groans, stomach hot and low. His eyes flick frantically between Max’s face and the tattoo.
Mating bites don’t last forever. You don’t even need them to bond, Max and Daniel hadn’t. But the moment Max learnt about them, from fucking Charles Leclerc, he’d begged Daniel to give him one, and then again each time it faded.
Now it never would.
“Do you like it?” Max asks, voice uncertain.
Daniel likes it. He feels insane, feels the simmer of possession, the desire to own Max, that he tries so hard to keep inside bubbling dangerously close to the surface.
“Maxy,” he says again, dropping to his knees. He presses his face to Max, nuzzling, then presses his tongue against the mark. Leaves wet trails on the freshly healed skin, fingers reaching to push inside his soaking hole.
Max threads a hand in his curls, throws his head back against the door and groans.
#trying to get the hang of writing Daniels POV but its hard :(((#may delete in morning but going to sleep now#max/daniel#fic#deranged a/b/o verse

2002’s Diorama was Silverchair’s creative peak, bringing everything that came before full circle with a rich, dynamic sound. Not much more to say beyond that; there’s enough variety within to keep most fans of their different sounds pleased, and it doesn’t feel like a repeat of their earlier works. Great stuff. Highlight tracks include Across The Night, The Greatest View, Without You, and My Favourite Thing. Available on iTunes and Spotify. It’s a special day for Ethan and me. I’ve had a few flashbacks to some huge moments in our life together that brought us to where we are now.

Grayson walked in on you and Ethan making out in their shared bedroom in New Jersey.
Never Too Tired
Written for this concept sent in anonymously: “laying in ethans bed with his t shirt on while you wait for him to come home. when you're mid falling asleep he would sneak into the bed with you and start lightly tickling/rubbing your back or stomach and would ask you to tell him about your day, he would listen to everything you say while he holds you close to him”

Ross Sinclair- Artist
Ross Sinclair is an artist, writer and musician who is a Professor of Contemporary Art Practice within the School of Fine Art at The Glasgow School of Art. He is best known for his ‘Real Life’ research project initiated when he had the words REAL LIFE tattooed in black ink across his back, at Terry’s Tattoo parlour in Glasgow, in 1994.
Sinclair completed a PhD by Published Work in 2016 where he interrogated and articulated the innovative nature of the Real Life project, unusual in its scale and duration, defining the contribution to contemporary art practice across the fields of sculpture, painting, performance, installation, critical writing and music. Drawing on these multi-disciplinary methodologies Sinclair maps out the forms, materials and processes activated over almost 25 Years of Real Life Projects, that often combine unusual and unorthodox approaches challenging conventional modes of exhibition practice, enabling new means of engagement with the viewer. The multi part thesis submitted claims these routes as an autonomous, artist initiated project, connecting with the public at a dynamic intersection of ideas, context, performance and art-practice.
Sinclair’s Real Life Project is set in a critical framework of contested paradigms of Everyday Life and The Real and acknowledges the influence of key critical thinkers over the quarter century of its development from Barthes, Baudrillard and De Certeau, through Bourriaud, Bishop and Kester and more recently in Harman, Mark Fisher and Paul O’Neill amongst many others. The project has been punctuated by the exploration of individual and collective relationships with Real Life particularly viewed through contemporary paradigms constructing society such as: Democracy, Utopia, Justice, Capitalism, Geography and History, the Church, the Bank, the State, while in parallel addressing the role of the tattooed artist himself. These monolithic pillars of the architecture of contemporary living are examined through the repeated interrogation of context, materials and audience engagement, testing the limits of the utility and agency of the contemporary art exhibition itself.
The ‘Real Life Project’ has been disseminated across a range of exhibition and publication contexts, exhibited extensively in public and private spaces, museums and galleries in the UK, Europe, USA, Canada, China, Iceland, South Korea, Japan and Australia in 50 solo and 150 group exhibitions documented by a series of solo monograph publications and more than 50 group publications.
Sinclair is a member of the AHRC Peer Review College, Journal of Visual Art Practice Peer Review, Austrian Science and Art Funds Peak/FWF. He has recently been External Examiner at UCL: Slade School of Art, Graduate Sculpture, London, 2015-18, MFA: Art, Society & Publics, DJCAD, University of Dundee, 2016-18 and in 2019 begins as External Examiner at Royal College of Art; Contemporary Art Practice. He has recently been elected an Academician of the Royal Scottish Academy of Artists and Architects.
This research addresses many of the GSA Strategic Themes: Contemporary Art and Curating (CAC) Architecture, Urbanism and the Public Sphere (APS) Education in Art, Design and Architecture (EADA) Material Culture (MC). Sinclair is an active member of the Reading Landscape Research Group.
In 2018 Sinclair curated an exhibition at QPRC in Glasgow: Artists who make Music/Musicians who make Art featuring over 100 artists including 5 Turner Prize winners alongside a host of other influential and significant artists and musicians where he sought to address the question of the locus of creativity in relation to the symbiotic but distinct endeavours of art production and music making. This project was supported by Creative Scotland and generated many reviews and media attention. He is currently developing another version of this project for a larger venue in 2020.
In 2017 Sinclair mounted a major solo exhibition at Shanghai Himalayas museum Real Life is Dead/Long Live Real Life 1994-2017 curated by Cooper Gallery University of Dundee and additionally undertook a residency working with participants to developing and staging a performance supported by British Council, Creative Scotland and the Scottish and UK Governments. This project brought together many heterogeneous works under the Real Life umbrella in order to raise questions on the construction growth and identity of a discrete art practice developing over 2 decades and how this can be articulated in relation to audience. In late 2017 Sinclair was invited by National Galleries of Scotland /Inverness Museum to make a contemporary response to the Landseer painting, Monarch of the Glen exhibited side by side with this iconic and divisive Scottish Icon testing received paradigms of Scottish identity..
In spring 2016 Sinclair was visiting fellow at St Johns College, Oxford University, where he undertook a 3 month artist in residence as part of his fellowship alongside various exhibition and public events.
In 2014/15 Sinclair was commissioned to re-create his 1996 performance installation ‘Real Life Rocky Mountain’ at The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh as part of the nationwide ‘Generation: 25 Years of Contemporary Art in Scotland’, project. In 2015/18 he was part of an exhibition of artists from GSA at Simone de Souza Gallery in Detroit and also that year was commissioned by UK Parliament, to contribute to a year-long project in Westminster Hall, Palace of Westminster celebrating the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta.
Sinclair has also published many essays and texts in books, journals and magazines and has written extensively on the generation of Glasgow artists emerging from the 1990’s onwards, recently contributing an essay on (2010 Turner Prize winner) Susan Phillipsz: Socialism in Her Heart, to the Artangel/Konig monograph ‘Ten Works (The Work)’, 2014 and Sinclair also had 2 essays featured in the recent ‘Generation Reader’ 25 Years of Contemporary Art in Scotland (National Galleries) published to mark this important exhibition in 2014.
A Parallel aspect of Sinclair’s art practice is reflected in a significant number of works and texts he has made over the past 20 years that implicitly or explicitly have addressed Scottish cultural identity, discussing the complexity of these influencing factors and how they can be understood and interrogated in contemporaneous, dynamic ways, in public, appealing to a diverse cross-section of audience. An example of this work was seen in 2015/16 at GOMA Glasgow where his large scale neon installation, ‘We Love Real Life Scotland’ was displayed on the 18th Century portico of the Gallery of Modern Art building on Queen St as part of the exhibition, ‘Devils in the Making, GSA and the Collection’. From a starting point in the 1980’s as a founding member of one of Glasgow’s most popular indie bands, The Soup Dragons, Sinclair has always utilised music throughout his practice and in 2015 released a gatefold vinyl album documenting a 3 year project with Collective (Edinburgh) 20 Years of Real Life: Free Instruments for Teenagers where he worked with young people developing, recording and releasing music made on instruments given away for free during his exhibition. This ‘vinyl publication’ was launched in Dec. 2015 at a live music event at the City Dome on Calton Hill. He has previously released records, ‘Real Life Parledonia’, Edinburgh Art Festival, 2013, and cd’s, ‘I tried to Give Up Drinking With Guitars instead of God’, The Duchy 2013, and ‘The Real Life Rock Opera’, The Travelling Gallery, 2004.

Seven Points To Keep in Mind Before Getting a Tattoo
Getting a tattoo is time-consuming and requires a lot of time and high endurance level. Tattoos help you in calming down your stress levels by lowering your hormones. You must do proper research before getting a tattoo. Take some recommendations from your friends who have already done a tattoo. After taking suggestions from valid sources, you must keep a note of these points:
1. Get a tattoo from a Licensed Tattoo artist
If this is the first time you get a tattoo, you must get the tattoo from a licensed person. Licensed means the person should be trained in that particular field and should have a set of professional helpers. Do proper research and see the reviews of the tattoo artists before getting a tattoo done, especially if you are doing it for the first time.
2. See that the Tattoo artist is wearing Gloves.
The tattoo artists must wear gloves as it safeguards them from catching any infection that might be transmitted by hand. Our hand collects several viruses and bacteria. So, tattoo artists must wear disposable gloves as they can be disposed of after every use.
3. Make sure that the tattoo artist is using a good-quality Ink
The tattoo artist should use good-quality ink which won’t cause any harm to the skin. A bad-quality ink can create skin infections and allergies over your skin. Therefore, you must take note of the ink the tattoo artist is using. Search for dynamic tattoo ink in Australia and get a tattoo inked to get a perfect-looking tattoo.
4. Make sure that the tattoo artist is using sterilized needles.
With the usage of contaminated needles, inner body infections can erupt. The tattooing equipment used on the clients must be of perfect quality. The tattoo artist should use fresh, sterilized needles from sealed packages. This will ensure that the tattoo is conducted hygienically.
5. Usage of Numbing Creams
Using numbing creams acts as a topical anaesthetic and helps deactivate the area before getting a tattoo. The numbing creams contain certain chemical components that help lessen the pain of getting a tattoo. Search for Australian tattoo numbing cream if you plan to get a tattoo.
6. Doctors recommend sleeping well before a tattoo.
Doctors usually guide you to sleep well before getting a tattoo. Tattoos can be stressful for some people as it is quite painful and time-taking. If you are sleep-deprived and arrive for a tattoo session, you will get more stressed due to the amount of pain which you’ll go through. Therefore, take an apt amount of sleep before your tattoo session.
7. Wearing airy clothes
Wearing tight clothes can cause you more stress, and in the summer seasons, you'll feel more suffocated if you wear skin-tight clothes to a tattoo parlour. Depending upon its length, a tattoo procedure can consume a lot of time. It's recommended to wear light clothes made from cotton. Wearing cotton clothes will help you remain stress-free and relaxed.
If you follow these things before getting a tattoo, you won't feel discomfort and can easily overcome the painful tattoo session at ease. As tattoos remain for a lifetime, you must be mindful and get tattoos done by professional tattoo artists only. Professional and reputed tattoo artists will follow the above methods for tattooing.

Dynamic tattoos promise to warn wearers of health threats
Within the not-too-distant future, tattoos might change into medical diagnostic units in addition to physique artwork. LightFieldStudios/iStock through Getty Pictures
Within the sci-fi novel “The Diamond Age” by Neal Stephenson, physique artwork has developed into “continuously shifting mediatronic tattoos” – in-skin shows powered by nanotech robopigments. Within the 25 years for the reason that novel was revealed, nanotechnology has had time to catch up, and the sci-fi imaginative and prescient of dynamic tattoos is beginning to change into a actuality.
The primary examples of color-changing nanotech tattoos have been developed over the previous few years, and so they’re not only for physique artwork. They’ve a biomedical objective. Think about a tattoo that alerts you to a well being drawback signaled by a change in your biochemistry, or to radiation publicity that may very well be harmful to your well being.
You possibly can’t stroll into a physician’s workplace and get a dynamic tattoo but, however they’re on the best way. Early proof-of-concept research present convincing proof that tattoos will be engineered, not solely to vary shade, however to sense and convey biomedical info, together with the onset of most cancers.
Signaling biochemical adjustments
In 2017, researchers tattooed pigskin, which had been faraway from the pig, with molecular biosensors that use shade to point sodium, glucose or pH ranges within the pores and skin’s fluids.
In 2019, a workforce of researchers expanded on that research to incorporate protein sensing and developed smartphone readouts for the tattoos. This yr, additionally they confirmed that electrolyte ranges may very well be detected with fluorescent tattoo sensors.
In 2018, a workforce of biologists developed a tattoo fabricated from engineered pores and skin cells that darken after they sense an imbalance of calcium attributable to sure cancers. They demonstrated the cancer-detecting tattoo in residing mice.
UV radiation sensors
My lab is taking a look at tech tattoos from a unique angle. We’re focused on sensing exterior harms, akin to ultraviolet radiation. UV publicity in daylight and tanning beds is the primary threat issue for all sorts of pores and skin most cancers. Nonmelanoma pores and skin cancers are the most typical malignancies within the U.S., Australia and Europe.
UV-activated tattoo ink is invisible till uncovered to UV mild. Jesse Butterfield/The Laboratory for Emergent Nanomaterials, College of Colorado Boulder, CC BY-NC-ND
To assist handle this drawback, we developed an invisible tattoo ink that turns blue solely in UV mild, alerting you when your pores and skin wants safety. The tattoo ink accommodates a UV-activated dye within a plastic nanocapsule lower than a micron in diameter – or thousandth of a millimeter – about the identical dimension as an abnormal tattoo pigment.
The nanocapsule is required to make the color-changing tattoo particles massive sufficient. If tattoo pigments are too small, the immune system quickly clears them from the pores and skin and the tattoo disappears. They’re implanted utilizing tattoo machines in the identical method as common tattoos, however they final for under a number of months earlier than they begin to degrade from UV publicity and different pure processes and fade, requiring a “booster” tattoo.
I served as the primary human take a look at topic for these tattoos. I created “photo voltaic freckles” on my forearm – invisible spots that turned blue underneath UV publicity and jogged my memory when to put on sunscreen. My lab can also be engaged on invisible UV-protective tattoos that may soak up UV mild penetrating via the pores and skin, like a long-lasting sunscreen just under the floor. We’re additionally engaged on “thermometer” tattoos utilizing temperature-sensitive inks. Finally, we consider tattoo inks may very well be used to stop and diagnose illness.
On this TEDx discuss, the writer demonstrates the UV-detecting tattoo.
Momentary high-tech tattoos
Momentary switch tattoos are additionally present process a high-tech revolution. Wearable digital tattoos that may sense electrophysiological alerts like coronary heart charge and mind exercise or monitor hydration and glucose ranges from sweat are underneath growth. They’ll even be used for controlling cell units, for instance shuffling a music playlist on the contact of a tattoo, or for luminescent physique artwork that lights up the pores and skin.
The benefit of those wearable tattoos is that they’ll use battery-powered electronics. The drawback is that they’re much much less everlasting and cozy than conventional tattoos. Likewise, digital units that go beneath the pores and skin are being developed by scientists, designers and biohackers alike, however they require invasive surgical procedures for implantation.
Tattoos injected into the pores and skin provide the most effective of each worlds: minimally invasive, but everlasting and cozy. New needle-free tattooing strategies that fireside microscopic ink droplets into the pores and skin are actually in growth. As soon as perfected they are going to make tattooing faster and fewer painful.
Prepared for on a regular basis use?
The colour-changing tattoos in growth are additionally going to open the door to a brand new type of dynamic physique artwork. Now that tattoo colours will be modified by an electromagnetic sign, you’ll quickly be capable to “program” your tattoo’s design, or swap it on and off. You possibly can proudly show your neck tattoo on the motorbike rally and nonetheless have clear pores and skin within the courtroom.
As researchers develop dynamic tattoos, they’ll want to check the protection of the high-tech inks. As it’s, little is thought in regards to the security of the greater than 100 totally different pigments utilized in regular tattoo inks. The U.S. Meals and Drug Administration has not exercised regulatory authority over tattoo pigments, citing different competing public well being priorities and an absence of proof of security issues with the pigments. So U.S. producers can put no matter they need in tattoo inks and promote them with out FDA approval.
Thus far, there isn’t a proof that tattoos trigger most cancers, and one research even discovered that black tattoos defend in opposition to UV-induced pores and skin most cancers. Nonetheless, many tattoo inks include or degrade into substances which can be identified to be hazardous, and well being issues together with an infection, allergy and granuloma have been present in about 2% of tattoos. Extra analysis is required to grasp the long-term results of nano- and microimplants within the pores and skin generally.
A wave of high-tech tattoos is slowly upwelling, and it’ll in all probability maintain rising for the foreseeable future. When it arrives, you may determine to surf or watch from the seashore. In case you do climb on board, you’ll be capable to verify your physique temperature or UV publicity by merely glancing at considered one of your tattoos.

People get tattoos for any number of reasons. For almost 400 people recently, that reason was free pizza for life.
In Russia, Domino’s Pizza offered customers “100 pizzas a year for 100 years” for free if they tattooed the company’s logo on themselves and then shared the image to social media with the hashtag #DominosForever, the Wall Street Journal reports. The promotion was supposed to run for two months, but the pizza chain had to discontinue it after four days because so many people were willing to ink up. In the end, 381 people qualified for the deal.
The reason many of them chose to get red-and-blue logos tattooed prominently on themselves was not solely because of an overwhelming loyalty to MeatZZas. Per the WSJ, “A stagnant economy has left average disposable incomes stuck around $500 a month” in Russia. Several people whom the paper interviewed got the tattoos because they needed the free food.
People occasionally pay to ink things like the Harley-Davidson wings and Apple apples with no financial incentive from the brands whatsoever; they truly just feel an affinity. But offering free stuff in exchange for customers getting tattoos of a company’s logo is a different dynamic. There’s also been a trend of companies not-so-subtly encouraging employees to get tattoos of their employers’ logo. It might seem funny at first glance, but it’s actually a pretty bleak statement on what brands are willing to do for some fleeting social media marketing buzz and the economic reasons people comply.
While Domino’s is one of the more high-profile global brands to pull this stunt, there’s a storied history of restaurants offering free food in exchange for walking human signage — or in the case of Melt, an Ohio-based grilled cheese chain, a more modest 25 percent off for life. According to a gallery on the chain’s website, at least 900 people have tatted the brand’s cheesy bread-and-crossbones logo on themselves for this deal. The sandwiches must be incredible, because the “Kindergarten,” a pretty classic-looking grilled cheese, goes for $7, which means you save about $1.25.
In 1999, San Francisco’s Casa Sanchez offered free lunch for life for people who got tattoos of the Mexican restaurant’s logo. They had to cap it at 50 people per day because so many people took them up on it. The restaurant reinstituted the policy in 2010, per the WSJ. As Domino’s has shown, people don’t balk at the concept quite as much as brands expect them to.
In 2016, CNBC reported on an Australian restaurant called Cafe 51 offering free burgers for life in exchange for a tattoo of one of its burgers drawn to scale. At the time, one of the burgers featured four beef patties and four pieces of fried chicken, so it was not a minimalist design. Apparently 3,500 people applied for the “honor,” and 10 were chosen for the actual tattoos. (The chain is now called Burger Love, so it’s a good thing the logo wasn’t the tattoo.)
In the early 2000s, during the heyday of the dot-com boom, there was a particularly devastating series of news stories about people auctioning off their faces and other parts of their bodies to brands for tattoos. In 2005, a woman got the logo of the gambling site GoldenPalace.com tattooed across her forehead for $10,000; the tattoo parlor reportedly spent seven hours trying to talk her out of it. A BuzzFeed report in 2012 sums up this dystopian time, interviewing several people who still had the tattoos. Most of the brands didn’t exist at that point anymore, and many of the people who had the tattoos were financially worse off.
These strategies do sometimes backfire, as was the case with publisher Hachette, which tried to run a promotion in Australia for the fourth book in the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series, according to a Verge report. It wanted to find a woman who would be willing to get a large dragon on her back, even going so far as to call it “tatvertising.” The company had to cancel the promotion after some online backlash questioning the ethics.
Then there’s Anytime Fitness, which has been successful in getting both members and its employees to have the chain’s purple “running man” logo tattooed. According to a 2017 post on the company’s blog, more than 4,000 “owners, staff, and members” have the logo tattoos. Anyone who does it gets … the cost of the tattoo reimbursed by the company.
The WSJ, which has truly been at the forefront of reporting on this tattoo-brand marketing economy, reported in March that an Anytime employee got a company logo tattoo but hid it from his wife for three days. This delightful exchange pretty much says it all:
He recalled his wife was shocked but decided it was “kind of sexy.” Ms. Daly has a different recollection. “No, I would not describe it as cool or sexy,” she said, calling her husband a “knucklehead.”
Nike reportedly has a secret society of EKINs, (uh, that is Nike spelled backward), a group of people who are trained guerrilla marketers for the brand. In 1994, the New York Times first reported that they all had Nike swooshes tattooed on their legs, a practice that Complex confirmed was still happening in an anonymous interview with an EKIN in 2013. “… yes I do have a Swoosh tattoo. You aren’t held at gunpoint to get a Swoosh tattoo, but a lot of people get it,” the EKIN supposedly said.
Some people get tattoos because they feel a true kinship with their employers, as one 24-year-old Walmart employee in the Journal story attests. Then there’s the question of what happens when you no longer work for that company. Former New York Times editor-in-chief Jill Abramson got the paper’s “T” logo tattooed right below a Harvard “H” two months before she got fired from her job there. “I love the Times more than I loved working there,” she told the WSJ.
In an economy where people don’t keep their jobs for 30 years anymore and companies like Amazon routinely pay workers subpar wages, it’s easy to be uneasy about brands stepping in to present themselves as “families” to its workers. Pressuring people to essentially permanently brand themselves (in both senses of the term), no matter how lighthearted it seems at the time, is almost cultlike.
“When people are offered something for free, they have this extreme positive reaction that clouds their judgment. They are ready to forgo options that are, rationally speaking, better for them,” a marketing professional told the Pacific Standard in 2015. The case of tattooing yourself for free burritos is an extreme instance of that. But for many of the Muscovites who wanted free pizza, it was almost an act of desperation. Paying the equivalent of $30 for a tattoo in exchange for a lifetime of worry-free eating was worth it to them, which is a disturbing commentary on both Russian economics and the fact that a brand was so flippant in its marketing that it didn’t realize that could be the case.
Some of these situations are fuzzier. People do have legitimate bonds with brands. In 2014, HBO ran a promotion with a small tattoo parlor near Comic-Con in San Diego, paying for 111 fans to get HBO-approved Game of Thrones tattoos. That is truly a cohort with a rabid fan base who didn’t necessarily consider it a promotion — they likely wanted GoT tattoos anyway.
And it could be similar for Anytime Fitness: On the brand’s blog, many members discuss how the logo has meaning for them, as a representation on a journey to health and as a symbol of their membership in a community. “Anytime Fitness Concord really is a family. My tattoo represents this family, and a decision to live my life to the fullest,” one wrote.
But the brand is probably getting a lot more out of it than you are. Anytime has received features in multiple national publications for its tattooing stunts. What happens when you quit that job, or don’t like pizza anymore, or gain all the weight back, and that tattoo is still there, seemingly mocking you?
On a final practical note: Tattoo removal costs thousands of dollars and is really painful. And unlike Domino’s 30-minute delivery guarantee policy, lasers are not guaranteed to remove a tattoo completely.
Original Source -> 400 people got a Domino’s tattoo for free pizza. Why do brands promote these body-altering stunts?

Kicking off the new year with another Australian artist career run is the 2011 debut album from The Smith Street Band, No One Gets Lost Anymore. A project that frontman Wil Wagner initially kicked off as a vehicle to perform under in 2009 (initially named Will Wagner & etc), the group dynamics were strong enough that it became a far more collaborative effort, and their debut delivers a brilliant fusion of punk and folk sensibilities. It just feels so inherently Australian too, with Wagner’s strongly accented intonation giving the band a signature voice. It’s good stuff, definitely worth jumping into with this if you’ve never listened before. Highlight tracks include Rooftops, Sigourney Weaver, Get High, See Mice, My Little Sinking Ship, and Never Come Back Here. Available on iTunes and Spotify. Alright arm/chest/shoulder session, shaking things up from next week but. #gym #health #fitness #fit #beard #ink #tattoos #tuesday #armday #chestday #shoulderday #comewithmeifyouwanttolift #irontherapy #2018 #thesmithstreetband #noonegetslostanymore #2011 #rooftops #sigourneyweaver #gethighseemice #mylittlesinkingship #nevercomebackhere #rock #alternative #folk #punk #australia #itunes #spotify
