Should I start writing fanfics on here? If anyone wants to suggest something let me know I would happily try it out and would love the constructive criticism.

The Shane I have in my head is him with a mustache, just really going all in on the meek librarian look. In fact his normal keeping up appearances job is a part time job as a librarian. His neighbors are baffled at how this librarian can afford a mansion in the richest neighborhood of Chicago. Most people assume that he’s a trust fund baby living off his inheritance who sees his job as more of a hobby.
OF COURSE HE HAS A MUSTACHE!! i loveee him and his love of libraries and ofc he's in chicago.
maybe the library is also where important things get sent and important meetings get held bc it's relatively quiet and he can have people in after hours.

Dylan Obrien

BEST FRIENDS
PART ONE - PART TWO - PART THREE
Pairing: Dylan O’Brien x Reader
Warnings: 18+ content, drinking, smoking, cursing.
Concept: Y/N and Dylan have been best friends for years, but Dylan has a girlfriend who is less than friendly and so incredibly annoying. Oh, and Y/N is secretly in love with Dylan.
Tumblr media
Julia lived with her longterm girlfriend, Aly. They had this great place in the city that we all would gather monthly for a group party. It was the best way to get everyone to catch up for hours without paying out the ass for booze. Mikey and Olivia came over to my place before the big party to pregame, get ready, and force me to come. Olivia put me in black pants and the tiniest top she could find in my closet while Mikey handed me shot after shot. About two hours later, the three of us arrived at Julia's.
“Hey!” Aly cheered as she gave each of us a hug individually. “You look stunning!” Aly smiled as she held me a little tighter. “Kamille isn’t here yet.” She pulled away and watched as a weight lifted off my shoulders. I’ve never been so relieved to learn that Dylan wasn’t there. I smiled at the girl and then walked past her to the kitchen to get another drink. I’ve got enough time to be drunk enough to handle dealing with this girl.
I open their large fridge and pull out a can of whatever is closest and a couple of jello shots. I throw my head back and immediately suck three shots down before cracking open the can in my hands and closing the fridge. I turn and see a tall figure watching me with a smirk, making me jump just enough to spill some of my drink. “God! Why didn’t you say anything!” The man scoffed lightly, “I thought we weren’t talking right now.” I looked at him emotionless. “We aren’t.” Dylan rolls his eyes for a second, “I thought you’d be happy that Kamille isn’t here.” I turned to face him again after trying my best to leave the kitchen without any more words. “I am happy. I’m ecstatic, even! Because now I don’t have to worry about being fucking bullied for just existing!” Dylan scoffed angrily, “Get off your high horse, Y/N/N. She’s not that bad.” I put my drink down on the counter and walk closer to the man in front of me, “Yes, she is! Her entire existence is to hurt my feelings!” Both of our voices were rising more and more with each word. I could hear Julia turning the music up to give us some sort of privacy. “She’s got a good reason for it, Y/N.” I throw my hands up angrily, “Are you fucking serious?” Dylan mocks my actions. “What could possibly be a good enough reason to be a bitch?” Dylan moves closer to me again, “Because she’s jealous. She’s jealous of how close we are.” I shake my head back and forth, close enough to feel his breath on my face. “That’s a bullshit fucking reason, Dylan. She’s the one dating you, not me.” We were both breathing heavily and angrily, our eyes switching back and forth as we argued like we’ve never argued before. The silence should’ve helped us both calm down, but it didn’t. The only thing that changed any demeanor between the two of us in the present moment was the sudden leap Dylan took.
He pressed his lips against mine feverishly. His hand wrapped around the back of my neck as both my arms wrapped around his. His other hand found my waist followed by the first hand as he picked me up and sat me on the counter. His lips paced insatiably down my neck and chest. “Dylan-” I moaned as he hit every spot I wanted him to. “Wait- Dylan-” He continued moving around my body. His lips finally made their way back to my own and so did the thought I had before, “Wait.” He pulled away breathlessly. “What?” I looked at him for a second as I tried to catch my breath as well. “What the hell are we doing?” Dylan looked around for a moment, noting where each of his hands were, “Making out?” I shook my head, “No, no, Dylan. I mean, what the fuck is this? What about Kamille?” Dylan shrugged his shoulders, “I thought you hated Kamille.” He sighed as he began kissing my neck again. I pushed him back softly, “Dylan.” The man pulled away from me again with a tense look on his face. “Look, Y/N/N, there’s something I sort of left out about Kamille and I’s relationship.” I nod my head to urge him to continue. “We have an open relationship.” I furrow my eyebrows at the boy in between my legs - the one that I’ve been wanting in between my legs. He shrugs, “Basically, we can fuck whoever we want as long as we come home to each other at the end of the day.” Dylan smirks softly before eyeing my lips again and diving back in. At first, I let him graciously - not fully processing what he just said to me. Moments later, I moan his name again. “Dylan.” He smirks into my shoulder, “God, I love hearing you moan that.” I shook my head, “No, Dyl-” I sigh, pushing the boy back, “No. No, no, no.” Dylan looks back at me in confusion, “What?” I shake my head and hop down off the counter top. “I-I’m not just someone you can fuck. I’m your friend- your best friend…” I pause and shake my head before mumbling quietly, “Or at least I thought I was…”

"For fuck sakes Y/N, you're damn thirty you shouldn't be freaking out over coffee." You cursed at your reflection in the mirror almost as if the eyes that stared right back at you were judging you, mocking you even. You felt ridiculous, doing your makeup and dressing nicely for a coffee date like you were in high school. Good lord. Is this what dating felt like? Looking back at it you had very little to no memory of ever going through this with your ex-husband. You definitely didn't feel this sick feeling to your stomach or this restless beating of your heart.
This is what society calls having a crush. At thirty years old, nice.
You shook your head, trying to brush off your insecurities and nervousness before you started to think going out with Dylan was a bad idea. Because my god you really liked him, even if you barely knew him, you felt so attracted to that man it wasn't even funny. So you tried not to think about the fact that he was Roman's coach. And with a deep exhale you dragged your feet out of your bathroom before you could convince yourself otherwise.
You grabbed your phone from your nightstand and when the screen lit up you saw a text from Dylan. You swallowed thickly, the insecure side of you thinking that maybe he was going to tell you that he changed his mind. You swiped to open the text and you were instantly relieved
[Dylan]
I'm owm to the cafe we agreed on. I can't wait to see you ;)
You let out a soft relieved laugh when you read over the text, it almost made you smile too. It was kinda sweet. He was kinda sweet.
Maybe this wasn't such a bad idea after all.
This was it, it was now or never. You gripped the steering wheel with so much force you felt like you were going to pop a knuckle out of place. You couldn't shake this mixture of both excitement and nervousness. When you thought about it, you realized that Dylan would be the first man you have gone out with in ten years and that really fucking scared you. You squeezed your eyes shut for a couple of seconds and took in as much air as you could before letting it out slowly, as if you were trying to let out all of your insecurities and anxiety right now. You had to.
"Alright, alright it'll be okay." You reassured yourself with a small smile before you grabbed your belongings and got out of your car, not wanting to waste any more time.
You walked a very short distance from your car to the nice cafe Dylan picked out. You were honestly surprised by how nice it looked, from the outside at least, but you figured it was just as nice inside. When you got to the entrance, you immediately spotted Dylan standing outside with his nose deep on his phone, as you assumed he was waiting for you. You didn't announce yourself just yet, you wanted to take him in. He looked nice, he was dressed in a nice but simply navy blue Henley and dark washed jeans, his chocolate hair free of his usual baseball cap and his jaw was covered in a dark stubble that looked like it hadn't been shaved in a couple of days. To say that you absolutely loved what you saw was an understatement. Like how was it possible for someone to look so simple but so incredibly hot at the same time? This man made it possible, you guessed.
When you finally started to feel a bit creepy after a couple of seconds of staring at him in silence you decided to approach him. Here goes nothing.
“Dylan?” You spoke up softly, hoping to get his attention. Dylan immediately looked up from his phone, his eyes scanning for a few seconds for the source, until he found you standing in front of him with a small smile. He smiled too and his eyes instantly lit up when they saw you.
“Y/N, hi uhm,” He paused as he shoved his phone into his pocket and moved off the wall he was standing against to approach you. HIs smile grew slightly wider as he looked over you carefully, almost as if he was taking in your presence the same you had a minute ago. But he wasn’t anywhere near as shy about it as you were. His eyes burned deep into you as his eyes scanned up and down your form for a minute. And you were absolutely burning up under his warm gaze. He probably noticed because his eyes suddenly went up and met with yours, the smile never leaving his lips. “You look- you look very, very,” he let out a small breath and chuckled softly, as if he was too shy or awkward to finish the sentence, but you knew what he meant regardless.
“Uhm,” you chuckled softly and looked down, running your hand through your hair a bit flustered. “Thank you. You look nice too.”
Dylan did a similar gesture, he smiled flustered, his pale cheeks turning into a pinkish colour and he nodded, running his hand through the back of his dark hair before he made eye contact with you again.
“Would you like to go inside?” Dylan asked, gesturing his head towards the door. You noticed he lightly scrunched up his face like he just said something he wished he hadn’t, but did and just had to go along with it anyway. You just smiled and nodded. Before you could go in, he opened the door, but he didn’t go in, he just stood and waited with a smile.  “After you.”
“Oh,” You looked at him a bit taken aback, not really expecting such a gesture, but you happily accepted it. Everyone needs chivalry in their lives every once in a while. “Thank you.”
Dylan followed you inside. The two of you didn’t really exchange much for a little while, the process of ordering your respective desired drinks and food took a bit and during it you both simply stood on the side as you waited for your name to be called with your order. You wouldn’t say it was awkward though, it really wasn’t, despite the very obvious silence. It was surprisingly comfortable. And it wasn’t until you both had gotten your orders and that you had found a nice somewhat quiet spot near the back of the cafe that you talked. And even then, you both still sat in silence for a little while, looking between the cup of coffee in your hands and the other right across. You honestly had no fucking idea how dates worked. I mean you were 19 when you had your last first date with someone. And coincidentally it was with your ex-husband, so it wasn’t even a good one to begin. Yeah this was hard.
“So where are you kids?” Dylan spoke up, finally breaking the silence you were both in. You looked up at him when you heard him and you sighed softly.
“With their Dad. It’s his weekend with them. I dropped them off yesterday evening and I usually pick them up Monday afterschool.” You explained with a small sigh, leaning on the palm of your hand.
“Do you always make that face when you talk about your ex?” Dylan pointed out with a small chuckle, probably noticing the way you dreaded even the mention of your ex.
“Sorry,” you laughed softly and shook your head dismissively. “If you ever see Roman making that face, you know where he learned it from.” You joked, rubbing the side of your face feeling almost embarrassed that Dylan picked up on your expression. But he laughed too, so he probably took it lightheartedly.
“So do you only have Roman and your little girl? Or do you have more kids?” He asked curiously, leaning back in his seat as he sipped on his coffee, but nearly spat it right back out with a laugh when he saw the way your eyes widened and you profusely shook your head.
“Oh God no. Just those two. And honestly, two is good enough for me.”
“Of course, that’s entirely fair.” He chuckled softly. “So Roman I know, but I don’t know much about your girl. What was her name again?”
“Athena. She just turned six and she’s the light of my life.” You actually smiled this time when you responded, now your turn to sip on your coffee. Dylan hummed softly and nodded.
“Athena? That’s really pretty. I think it’s pretty fitting, because she looks exactly like you. And you’re honestly the most beautiful woman I have ever met.” His pale cheeks flushed bright red when he said it and his lips curved into a bit of a sheepish smile. You got just as flustered, your eyes grew big at the sudden compliment and you couldn’t help but avert your gaze away from his, but there was also a small smile on your lips. It was cute how shy but surprisingly charming Dylan could be at times.
“Well uh, thank you. It’s nice to know I did something right with my life.” You joked, but there was some small truth behind your words. It was hard not to feel like you were a complete and utter failure and like you had no idea what the fuck you were doing with your life most of the time.
“I’m sure that’s not the only thing. Despite everything you’ve had going on you’re doing an amazing job with both of your kids. I mean Roman is a great kid. And I know I’m just an outsider but from my perspective you do way more for your kids as a single mom than most married parents I’ve seen in the past five years. I mean, your whole life got turned upside down, and that’s not counting what you might’ve gone through prior, and yet you've managed to raise decent human beings. I can see that in Roman, and I trust me I don’t see it often.” Dylan reached over the table to the hand that was sitting flat on the surface, and he slowly grabbed it, squeezing it lightly, “so maybe, just maybe, you should give yourself some credit, because you’re doing a great job, and not every parent can say the same.”
“Dylan,” you breathed out softly, your eyes had already filled with tears so you had to blink a couple of times to make them go away. Maybe he thought he made you uncomfortable because you stayed silent and you avoided his gaze, so he tensed up a bit and was about to move his hand, but you squeezed it lightly and smiled at him, genuinely smiled. “Thank you. It’s been a shitty six months and I honestly don’t know if I have been doing anything right, like at all. It feels like my life is falling apart so knowing that maybe I’m not a shitty parent lifts some of that weight off my shoulders.”
“Well for whatever it’s worth, I think you’re an amazing mom. and you’re definitely my favourite mom too.” He shot you a small wink, and instead of an awkward smile, there was a more playful and confident one, like he was not shy to say it at all. You on the other hand, you were definitely burning up, and it wasn’t exactly because of the warm coffee in your cup.
“I think we’ve talked enough about me. And even though I’ve been seeing you three times a week for the past six months, I don't know much about you so,” you tried to shift the focus of your conversation. Both so that you could play off the fact that you were absolutely flustered and that it was his fault and also because wanted to hear more about him, because realistically you knew very little. “So how long have you been coaching baseball?”
“About five years.” He responded after a few seconds of thinking and nodded to himself to confirm.
“So quite a while huh?” He nodded again with a small smile. “What made you start coaching? I mean we’re the same age, so I’m guessing you did something else before that.” And right then, his expression slightly fell and he straightened himself in his chair, clearly a bit tense now.
“Well,” he bit his lip and ran his fingers through the dark hair covering his jaw, now it was his turn to avert his gaze. It took him a couple of seconds to speak again, like genuinely had no idea how to respond, or like he was trying to find the best way to. “I like playing baseball. I used to actually. I played in Major League Baseball. I loved it, like a lot. And coaching baseball to middle schoolers felt like the closest thing to actually playing baseball y’know?”
“Really? I had no idea you were actually a professional baseball player. That’s uh, that’s pretty cool. What team did you play for?” You asked, leaning into your palm again but you leaned a bit closer this time, actually interested. But again, he seemed to be tense, his body language was tense and once again he avoided eye contact with you, like something was off. You frowned softly when you noticed his reaction again.
“Mets.” He simply said with a half smile, but it wasn’t a proud or even happy one, it looked kind of sad, nostalgic even, like it was still a sore topic, and you were pouring salt on the wound. “I played for the Mets for a couple of years. Until-”
“Dylan you don’t—you don’t have to explain that to me. It’s okay, we don’t have to go into detail about it if you’re not comfortable.” You reassured him, now squeezing his hand in return. You weren’t going to lie, you were dying to know more, both because you wanted to know more about Dylan and his life, and also because you were curious to know what happened that made him quit playing professionally. I mean you doubted it was his deliberate decision. But you weren’t anything of his so you had no right to pry.
“I appreciate that Y/N, but I want us to, well, I want us to work, and I feel like I can’t move forward if I don’t tell you this because you’re going to find out anyway, and I rather you just hear it from me.” He swallowed thickly, his adam’s apple bobbing visibly and he looked visibly nervous. Yeah, that definitely worried you.
“Oh,” you bit your lip, sitting straight and looking at him with big eyes, now a bit worried about what he was actually going to say, so you nodded slowly. “O-okay, I’m listening.”
“So being a professional baseball player was like my dream growing up, I knew that’s what I wanted to do with my life, like that was my thing. And I know this isn’t a justification, but I was very very young when I got drafted. I was twenty-two when I got into the Mets, I moved to New York by myself and being in that environment was a lot for a dumb college student and I know that,” he paused, running his hand through the back of his hair and took a deep breath, mentally preparing himself to say what he had to say, “I was partying, drinking, sleeping around a lot, I had absolutely no control. So drinking a few beers after every game turned into drinking a twelve pack every night after practice, and when beer no longer gave me the buzz I wanted that turned into drinking strong liquor until I blacked out drunk and that quickly turned into going to practice hungover out of my mind, and to help with the hangover I would drink some more, I would sometimes mix that with weed too. I honestly couldn’t remember days at a time because I was always so drunk, or high. I have been told I blacked out multiple times during practice or my teammates would find me blacked out in our hotel rooms when we traveled. I was completely out of control.”
“So… So did you get like.. Fired?” You asked hesitantly, not exactly liking where he was going because you had the feeling it wasn’t exactly a story with a happy ending.
“Eventually, yeah. They made me go to A.A meetings at first, but really, when does that ever work? But they never actually made me go to rehab because that meant I had to be gone for a season or two, and I couldn’t afford that. So that went on for a while until well,” he paused and sighed heavily, now running both hands over his face, and his usually bright amber eyes looked crystalized with tears. “I was driving to practice, of course I was drunk out of my fucking mind, and pretty fucking high so like to this day I don’t remember how I got in that car. And it’s still just a blur in my head, like I remember bits and pieces of what happened. I just remember I was driving, I think I was going 50 on a 20 because I was late for practice and I ran a red light. Everything else after that is still a blur, I just remember I woke up in the hospital with a broken collarbone, but other than that I was okay.”
“You were okay? What—what about the car you crashed into?” You dared to ask, your voice shaking a bit as you tried to process the amount of information he had just given.
“I ran right into the driver’s side, I completely totaled my car and theirs. And uhm, I found out at the hospital that they—” You saw a tear fall down his face, he blinked a couple of times in an attempt to make it stop, but you still saw it and you could see that it still pained him to remember. “They got a really bad spine fracture from the collision. It couldn’t be fixed, not even with surgery and they uhm, they were paralized from the waist down.”
“So—so you were drunk driving, ran a red light, caused a car accident and left someone in a wheelchair? Am I getting that right?” You said a bit too harshly, but you couldn’t help it. You honestly couldn’t believe it and you didn’t know how to react. Your hand was long off his by then.
“I know how it sounds but I—” you cut him off with a shake of your head.
"Dylan, that's really fucking serious. Like you could've fucking killed someone. Hell, you ruined someone's life. How can you even live with that?" Maybe you could've had a better reaction, maybe you weren't exactly reasoning nor empathizing with him. But how could you? You honestly didn't know what to think. Maybe you had no right to be upset, but you were. I mean in retrospect, is this really someone you want to be with? Someone with addiction? You had two children for fucks sake, you didn't have time to deal with this. "I'm sorry." Is all you said before you grabbed your purse and got up, ignoring Dylan calling your name as you walked away.
Dylan cursed to himself, wanting to punch himself in the face for being so incredibly stupid, but he had time to beat himself up later, instead he got up and went after you, hoping that maybe he could fix it, or maybe he was just destined to not be able to let go of his past.
"Y/N! Y/N c'mon!" He called after you, eventually catching you right when you walked out of the cafe. He grabbed your arm, making you turn around to face him, "Y/N, please wait, let me explain."
"Explain what? You already did. Listen I appreciate your honesty, I really do, it was better you told me now because I can tell you now that I can't do this. I have two kids I have to care of, I can't be worried about someone who—"
"Someone who's an alcoholic?" He finished your sentence, he sounded hurt, his face expression only further showed how much your words got to him. "It's not like that."
"It's not? Okay how it is then?" You looked up at him with a small frown, trying to look tough but the genuinely broken look in his eyes made you soften your expression a bit.
"Listen, that was over six years ago. I'm sober now. Completely." He sighed softly, averting his eyes away from yours to look at the ground, almost ashamed of himself now. "It was this huge scandal, all over social media, it was a lot of heat for the team, bad press, so they fired me. And that was the wake up call I needed, because I checked myself into rehab and I got sober. And I haven't gotten drunk or high ever since. And I don't know I thought maybe coaching kids would be the motivation I needed. I guess it bas been so far." And now you felt awful.
"Oh Dylan.." You sighed heavily, rubbing your face exasperatedly. You didn't even know what to say. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have overstepped, I don't know your story and I had no right—"
"Hey," he cut you off, grabbing your face between his warm hands and making you look up at him, "I know it was a lot to process. Trust me, the people that were closest to me at the time couldn't handle it either and I don't blame them. And I won't blame you if you don't ever want to see me again after this, I get it."
There it was, that knot in your stomach, your heart pounding so hard you could hear it in your head. It was this feeling you always had when he was around. The feeling of both anxiety and excitement. One because you liked being in his presence, somehow seeing those bright amber eyes, that smile and that constellation of moles along his face had become your reason not to take your children and start a new life half way across the country. But at the same time that made you uneasy, because feeling that way for someone again scared you. It scared you to let yourself love again, so you were looking for any excuse to run away. But right now, looking at those amber eyes, you didn't see somehow who would deliberately cause others pain, if anything you saw him own. And maybe, if you tried hard enough, you could heal each other.
"But I want to keep seeing you."
Dylan smiled, biting his lip softly, "good, because I want to keep seeing you too."
