This is a youth rights issue! In case it needs to be made explicit, it’s good to have laws about the age of consent to punish adults for having sex with teens. Those laws don’t actually prevent abuse though. An environment of transparency, education and agency for youth does.

We can’t pick and choose when teens have agency. Training people that they can’t say yes or they can’t say no isn’t situational. You can’t turn that training off! It makes it harder for people to say no when they don’t want something to happen and it makes it hard to recognize when their agency has been violated. I spent my youth in a high control environment and it fucked me up worse than any of my friends who drank, did drugs, or watched porn.

If an eleven year old clicks on a video titled teenwhore brutal gangbang, then they may be upset. They will learn not to click on videos like that. Since no other people are involved, they can simply pause the video and stop the experience immediately. Navigating a world full of upsetting things is unavoidable, and learning that you have control over what you interact with online is essential.
