Helpfuls instead of punishments

- instead of focusing on punishment, prioritize teaching what behaviors are acceptable and why, using positive reinforcement, clear communication, and logical consequences, while avoiding physical or verbal abuse.

Reasons why punishments can be harmful:

- demoralizing and humiliating

- Promoting aggression

- May have short term results

- Damage to the parent/child relationship

Helpful alternatives:

* Teach and Explain: Clearly explain the rules and expectations, and why they are important. 

* Positive Reinforcement: Praise and reward desired behaviors to encourage their repetition. 

* Natural and Logical Consequences: Allow natural consequences to follow from a child's actions (e.g., forgetting a coat and getting cold) or use logical consequences that are directly related to the behavior (e.g., losing the privilege of playing with a toy after misusing it). 

* Connect and Correct: Before correcting a behavior, try to connect with your child and understand their perspective. This can help de-escalate situations and create a more collaborative approach to discipline. 

* Ignore Unwanted Behavior (When Safe): If a behavior is not harmful or destructive, ignoring it can sometimes help extinguish it. 

* Focus on "Do's" Rather Than "Don'ts": Instead of saying "Don't run in the house", say "Please walk in the house". 

* Model Desired Behaviors: Children learn by watching, so be a good role model. 

* Be Consistent: Consistency in rules and enforcement helps children understand what is expected of them. 

* Praise and Acknowledge Efforts: Acknowledge and praise your child's efforts and accomplishments, not just the final outcome. 

* Give Choices: Offer choices that give the child some control within a framework of limits.

* Take a timeout: If a child is having a difficult time, a timeout can give them time to calm down and think about their actions. 

* Get someone else involved: If you are struggling to discipline your child, consider getting someone else involved, such as a family member or therapist.

Found on google ik it’s primarily about literal children but I believe it can be helpful to some caregivers with littles/regressors with behavioral issues when regressed.

I FINALLY got my Cinnamoroll BAB and I'm soooo happy!! I thought he'd never be back in stock and I was so sad 😭😭 But I picked him up today from the store and stuffed him there and picked out some clothes. Just a FYI, pants won't fit him cause of how his tail is so yeah
