was writing D2D last night (everyone cheered!) and i made some spontaneous decisions about shadowclan while writing about tawnypelt

shadowclan is prideful, right. cunning and clever and solitary. if the rest of the clans want to push them away so badly, fine, they don’t want anything to do with them, either. they’ll make their own way. they’re not so much friends or family necessarily as they are comrades in arms, but that’s okay. whatever emotional distance might be there is bridged by solidarity and a deep loyalty to the idea of shadowclan.

but then: brokenstar. then nightstar. then tigerstar. shadowclan is broken from a large, powerful clan to a shell of itself in a handful of years. what they get after tigerstar is blackstar, who might be making amends but was still very much complacent. all of these cats have lost family and friends, all of them have probably killed other warriors, and they have to trust in their new leader who was instrumental in making it all happen.

so shadowclan is still shadowclan in the wake of tigerstar. they won’t ever change that drastically. but i also believe they find ways to be gentler, to work on forgiveness just as much as they work on redeeming themselves. they do it quietly, in the dark, but they figure out how to support one another. i like the idea of them fumbling through learning what everyone needs to be supported and then Never Discussing It Again, just quietly doing what needs done when it comes up.

alright, so i’m looking ahead at the next couple of chapters and i have to make Decisions

chapter 54 is going to be whitepaw with some goldenflower, birchkit, and swiftscar content. chapter 56 is supposed to be nightcloud at a gathering, where tawnypelt moving to shadowclan comes out as well as another piece of riverclan drama

chapter 55 is currently supposed to be leafpool going to riverclan to help mothwing like what happened in canon, but there’s not really setup for it and it’s not really necessary to the plot except for some vague foreshadowing of whats going to happen at the gathering. and theres enough hawkfrost content so far for yall to know that guy is Up To No Good, yknow. sooo

The amazing thing about emperor cleon is that his perceived infallibility is the thing that makes him utterly wretched. He made this perfect system of self aggrandizement… a utopia of the ego… and it fucking bores him to death! The ennui is so palpable he literally nukes planets to death on intergalactic television just to feel something! When he goes to bed at night he can’t sleep because he’s haunted by himself. He is actually, actively chased around in generational circles by different versions of himself and his own face so that he can never escape his own self-loathing! He’s trapped in this snow globe of a palace with this ancient Grecian level of torment for (ideally) all eternity and what does he do about it? Serves cunt and kills people. Iconic. I hate him. MOON WARD

Handbuilt stoneware, with hand pained slip, glaze, palladium + gold luster, and underglaze accents. Post-fire details of paint on limbs/lower body.

This piece is a part of my 4-piece Celestial Wards series! The smallest of the set, Moon Ward is both smaller than the two wardens with a simpler design and expression to reflect its lesser maturity, and smaller than the Sun Ward to reflect (albeit disproportionately) the size difference of the moon and the sun.

The Moon Ward is one of my favorite pieces in the whole set! While simpler than the wardens, I feel the design is very effective and balanced well. I’m very happy with the stylized feather texture on his head, and the overall shape of the limbs!

hello warrior cats community

i am clawing myself up out of my grave to announce that Dusk to Dawn has finally been completed. yeah i just dumped five chapters in there. woo.

now, i did have to condense the last, idk, 13 or so chapters into two parts, just speedrunning the highlights, because i am so tired and busy right now, but the plot is there. it exists. and that's about as much as i can ask for.

so you may assume that that's the end of the story. i mean, D2D was a bit of a mess. it took two and a half years and i spent most of that time on hiatus and tearing my hair out. but what's that quote? the only thing worse than writing is not writing. and at least half of my motivation to finish D2D was to get to the parts that come after.

which means that, yes, i'm still going to continue my rewrite. i just have to reevaluate and adjust.

the initial plan was for all parts to have roughly the same level of scale as D2D (which was planned to have ~200k words), or be even longer. this is because i have adhd and dangerous levels of optimism. i know there are people out there who can sustain themselves for multiple hundreds of thousands of words writing fictional cat rewrites, but i am not one of them. i can't do that, realistically.

so, i'm scaling back. PO3/Three of Swords and OOTS/Sign of the Four are both going to be around 50-70k. aiming toward the lower end there, but i know i have a tendency to, uh, go slightly overboard. see above. this way, i have a better chance of finishing both fics in a timely manner, and for 3OS especially, i won't have to drag the beaten corpses of plotlines that have been established for half of D2D on forever and ever.

what this also means is that i'm going to do a LOT of cutting and reshuffling. if it wasn't already clear, 3OS is not going to really attempt to stick to canon at all, not like D2D. we're going off the rails bonkers. Rule of Cool, etc etc. SOT4 will likely be the same.

and what comes after that? well, i'm so glad you asked. i've mentioned before that my plan for the end of OOTS is to have the clans only technically win the great battle. a pyrrhic victory, if you will (guess who just learned that phrase, hehe).

after that happens, there will be an interlude fic, probably about 50-70k as well, but potentially longer because i really love the concept. currently the working title for that is Pyrrhic/Pyrrhus. i might change it. it's already had several title changes. but it exists!

after THAT, if i'm still hanging around, i'd love to do an AVOS rewrite. that's about as far as my ambition extends, though. the problem is that post-OOTS, the clans' population is devastated (seriously, they need to lose way more cats) and their culture completely changes because, well, duh. that makes it very hard for the story to bear any kind of resemblance to a canon built around the old four clans. like, most of the cast of AVOS/TBC simply would not be born bc their parents died.

but yeah. we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

as far as a timeline goes, optimistically i'd like to start posting Three of Swords by the end of 2023. yeah, that's a long way away. i'm busy, y'all, and the Most Ideal thing would be to have it almost completely done so we don't end up trapped in another 2.5 year disaster.

if you would like to encourage the fic to move faster, you can feed my brainworms by asking me stuff or throwing ideas my way! on this blog, preferably. i know i made a sideblog for the 'verse, but i don't feel like dealing with it right now. i'll leave it up in case i change my mind, though.

answering the main question of chapter 52

it doesn't actually matter or affect anything (right now...) so any interpretation of tawnypelt's dream is valid. BUT, in my head, she did actually get pulled to the dark forest again

hence why she was so insistent about shadowclan not being safe; she may have physically outrun brambleclaw, but he and tigerstar can still get to her.

rowanclaw was not pulled into the dream, but it's the dark forest; they have a few special abilities there as well as starclan. it wouldn't be very hard for tigerstar (or, perhaps, the Thing In The Trees) to create an illusion of rowanclaw to mess with tawny.
