Worst Animated Dad Bracket Round 1
Propaganda:
Adam Wilkins: None Submitted
Tony Durpleton: Literally doesn’t give a crap about his son. He physically and mentally neglected and abused him. And he ABANDONED his son - who’s the age of a literal elementary schooler btw - by literally throwing him out of their moving house. He dislikes his son simply acting like a child and being noisy and having fun (which is something that all kids do). And literally THREW a gift that his son made for him out of the house (as a distraction for his son in order to abandon him). He’s also mentioned to literally physically drop his son all the time at extreme heights (the durple drop), probably in order to punish him. Uhh idk what else to say so here’s a link to a video of Tony threw the box his son gave him out the window and abandoned him (the title of the video is inaccurate for the scene within it): https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=j1N2V395FOU&pp=ygUZdGhlIGJlc3QgZGFkIGNlbnRhdXJ3b3JsZA%3D%3D

centaurworld really said that sometimes all a traumatized war criminal needs is a compulsory platonic DD/lb dynamic with an unfailingly kind and oblivious himbo
Stabby’s arc has the same vibe as fans babying an adult villain character only for the creators to go “okay yeah he’s baby now”
#and they were right#love that durpleton becomes a combination cult deprogrammer/ den father to an ever-increasing roster of former mutant evil goons

Whatever Stevie Wants 10
Part 9
While writing this, I didn’t realize I was plaigirizing Durpleton’s backstory LOL
In accordance with tradition, Steve’s mother waited until they got home, until they were behind closed doors, before she started her tirade on him.
“I hope you’re happy with yourself!”
“As if you care about my happiness!”, Steve shot back.
“Everything your father and I have done has been for your happiness. Including all of the work I’m going to have to do cleaning up this mess.”
“What mess?”, Layton asked, coming into the foyer.
“You’re son slapped Findlay in the face and then threw egg salad in his face”, Margaret said.
“Actually, it was chicken salad.”
Margaret pointed a finger at him. “You and that mouth of yours. Whatever husband we can get for you, I promise he won’t tolerate it the way we have. Now we have to put out this fire before it spreads. People talk Steven!”
Steve shrugged. “I wouldn’t know. You won’t let me near the phones.”
“Son, settle”, Layton started. “You’ve been a good sport and the girls have been liking the nursery.”
“But I will send them to another house”, Margaret warned. “And they’ll be lucky if it’s one of our vacation homes. I’d just as soon send them off with a maid.”
Steve bristled at that, his scent turning sour. His mother pinched her nose.
“I keep forgetting to order you blockers. Honestly, it’s no good the way you throw your scent around. Now, go to your room while your father and I sort this mess out. And don’t even think of going to the nursery. Eleanor has taken the children out on a stroll anyway.”
Steve’s feet stomped with each step and he slammed his door behind him. There had to be something else he could do. Some way he could contact the outside world without a phone. Or at least without his parents knowing. It had been days since he’d last spoken to his real family outside his pups. They must have noticed by now and were doing something about it.
He might be able to convince someone on the staff to let him use theirs, might being the operative word. They were usually more loyal to his mother and father. Steve considered running away on his own. But he couldn’t leave the twins behind. He knew if he did, they’d be shipped off to parts unknown, maybe even separated. He tried to think of who could help him where he was now and there weren’t very many. Folks around here would either be indifferent or send him back to his folks.
Wait-indifference, that could work.
Steve collected himself and went back downstairs, walking past a room where his mother was on the phone, either apologizing to Findlay or planning a party, it was hard to tell. He went right to his father who was on his way out in his golf gear, right on time.
“May I come along?”, Steve asked.
“With me? To the club? Didn’t your mother send you to your room?”
“She did. But I remembered I have to be a team player”, Steve said. “And maybe there’s some nice, younger alphas at the club.”
“Well you know we can’t afford to be picky when it comes to that”, Layton reminded him as he walked out, a silent approval for his son to come along. “But perhaps there is someone. You know Findlay has some kids around your age.”
Steve winced. “Maybe not anyone from that family.”
They arrived at the country club and it took very little to convince his father to go off golfing and leave him on his own. Steve’s front was that he’d find someone to talk to in the tea room or perhaps one of the leisure decks. True to his father’s nature, the man didn’t question the fact that Steve had just returned from brunch or even process what had happened at said brunch.
All he cared for was that his son appeared pleasant, agreeable, and social. So Steve was free to roam. The moment his father was off on the course, Steve looked around for someone his age, maybe even younger. He really didn’t feel like flirting with someone just to get access to their phone, but he would if he must.
He sat down at a table on the deck and allowed his order to be taken as he looked around and then he saw it, a kid with an ipad. Jackpot. Steve scanned the area and found their mother. They were wearing matching clothes and as usual, she was a distance away, distracted. It reminded Steve too much of his childhood, the kind of thing he was trying to save Violet and Vanessa from. But he couldn’t think about that right now.
“Hey”, Steve said, approaching the kid’s table. “It’s probably pretty boring here, isn’t it?”
“Yeah”, the little boy said, not looking up from his screen.
“You know, if you go through that door over there”, he pointed to where servers were coming and going. “Sometimes they give you sweets.”
The boy’s legs kicked a little at that. “Won’t I get in trouble?”
“You might. But they can’t take the cookies out of your stomach when you’ve already eaten them.”
That was all the boy needed to hop out of his chair and head to the kitchen. Steve took the ipad with a smooth motion and went further inside, finding a private bathroom. He went to the apps and of course this five year old child had twitter. Steve couldn’t judge some stranger’s parenting when it was in his favor right now.
He searched around and found exactly what he was looking for. The trending page was full of phrases and hashtags regarding the whole situation #CorrodedCoffin, HE’S MISSING, #Stevegate, and BRING HIM HOME.
Steve wanted to spend hours looking at everything. But he had to be smart with his time. His pack knew he was missing, but Steve didn’t talk about his parents much. While the Harringtons were public figures, Steve could narrow the search down from their many homes.
He opened up the camera and started recording, beginning with who he was. “My name is Steve Munson…”
---------------------
Margaret was waiting for them, glass of wine in her hand. “I don’t like it when people go behind my back.”
Layton looked confused, while Steve froze, afraid he’d been caught already.
“Steve was just at the club with me, on the prowl for a husband”, Layton said.
“He wouldn’t need to prowl if he took this seriously. And when I send someone to their room, I expect them to stay put until I say so.”
“Margaret, you’re too harsh on the boy. He was perfectly well behaved while with me.”
“Oh but of course, you’re his favorite”, Margaret bit out. “I’m just his warden.”
Steve slipped away, not interested in stroking his mother’s ego nor coming to his father’s aid. When he got to his room, he let out a sigh. He’d made the video, posted it on the kid’s account with as many keywords and hashtags as possible, then deleted it from the ipad. Steve wished he could’ve taken it with him, but surely the device had a location tracker. He could only hope the video got shared and viewed for the right people to see.
Corroded Coffin had ended their promotions early, citing issues at home. And it was just that morning that they came public with the fact that Steve, their pack omega, had gone missing after a visit to his parents. Their fans were making waves and news outlets were running with the story. The spouse of a celebrity going missing was juicy news.
Steve wouldn’t be able to see what effect his video would have. All he could hope for was that his parents didn’t see it too soon and that if they did, the coded messages in the video would go over their heads.
“My name is Steve Munson. This is a message to Eddie, Jeff, Grant, and Gareth. The pups are safe, we’re together. I went to visit my parents at a rented villa. They drugged me and now intend to make me break my bonding so that I can mate with someone in their circle. The castle has many defenses. But those unknown by the dragons may have a chance to cast a charm. I urge you to make off with the treasure first. The princess has her own wings.”

I find it hilarious that Durpleton from Centaurworld is a better father to Stabby than Stolas is to Octavia. If you want to see a character break the cycle of bad parenting just head over to Centaurworld
Doubly so when you remember that Stabby is a 43-year-old man who's almost as old as Durpleton and they're in a weird age-regression arrangement and happy as can be.

Hate it really but even Durpleton's farts can be relatable. The fact that he hears his father's complaints in them. Because that's what it sounds like. Farts.
#centaurworld#how dare they use toilet humor as a metaphor#i hate it but i love it#for context see previous post

Did it absolutely kill anyone else that Durpleton said his dad "Durpledropped" him all the time? His father was literally abusive...

I just found a video called “Durpleton Being a Father to Stabby…” and I have questions that I don’t know if I want answered
What is up with that show
#centaurworld is so weird and creepy at the same time#the Nowhere King exists in the same universe as Durpleton

Ok but what if Durpleton has some kind of neurodivergence and or disability, what if it led to him struggling performing basic activities and living up to expectations his father had of him, feeling like he could never do anything right, his father would verbally abuse him but internalising it, repeating his own fathers words back to himself, seeing himself as the problem and to blame, and that it’s his own fault for his father’s callousness because maybe if he could just be good enough then his father wouldn’t be like he was, and so he makes sure to be kind to everyone else because he doesn’t want anyone else to feel like he did and also in his perspective to compensate for him not being good enough and therefore running risk of being verbally berated and or rejected by family all over again. Like yeah there’s the silly fart humour, but he’s also clearly got some kind of childhood wound around a father figure and has some kind of unmet emotional need of a fathers warmth and love, why does he need to seek that out from his own farts, maybe that’s because this is Durpleton so why not, but at the same time as that silly aspect maybe he legitimately is being written as having some kind of father wound/issues, maybe it’s the shows way of trying to find that balance between silly goofy ridiculousness and trauma, idk

So when you look closely every single toy Durpleton has is hand made because his parents hate listening to him play. The champagne glass and acorn to make a Ball and cup game is also very depressing. Also when he’s trying to show his dad his toys and play with him he phrased it in a way that he hoped his father would approve of like “Look at these things I made isn’t that clever? Maybe we can connect because I’m being the clever boy that you wanted.” But of course unfortunately that doesn’t work because the Durpleton family isn’t actually interested in raising a child out of love and are more interested in what’s expected of them as high society types who’s ideal kid is someone who doesn’t speak to them unless they need to show them off with their good grades and “good behaviour”.
We can also see that Durpleton actually is very good at making things considering his limited materials

I noticed Durpleton's "fart dad" never showed up again after season 1. Then I realized fart dad's purpose was to show that Durpleton literally internalized a positive way to be a father instead of a negative one. It's why he kept hearing his farts say mean things in season 1 until the tree shamans gave him what he needed by making the messages positive.
It's why Durpleton's "good parenting is about bad parenting" line is such an important message. I've seen fans not understand what this means and they wave it off as typical Durpleton nonsense. They may not understand that this is a particular struggle for children of toxic and abusive parents. By seeing how much harm your parents did to you, you resolve to be a better person and potentially a better parent by using them as an example of what not to do. Good parenting is about bad parenting.
Once he internalized that positivity and adopted Stabby, we never hear from fart dad again because it was from Durpleton all along. This revelation makes me appreciate his character so much more.
The whole "adopt a former child soldier and give him the childhood he never had" thing is still super weird on the surface because Stabby's voice makes him sound much older than his younger sounding father figure.

he never said anything nice when i’d eat the foods that i loved
i dont know if its canon, but its my thought that durpletons daddy issues are tied directly to food and eating. maybe growing up in the war addled centaurworld, food was scarce in giraffetaur valley, and since a growing babby boy needs to eat, his father would constantly get mad at him for asking for food or eating too much. and so later on, after he met wammawink, who can make as much food as she wants, that fear he felt in his fathers rage has stayed with him in the form of his abusive farts. farts being, of course, a thing that naturally happens when you eat well. theres also evidence of this connection in his song ‘Where does food come from’. From the gentle, polite approach to the question, to calling Horse ‘Sir’ (perhaps for fear of the consequences of bringing up such a sensative subject), to the way his voice quivers when he says he doesnt want to be a ‘Dumb dumb’ (maybe a curse thrown at him by his father for being unappreciative of their limited resources). all in all, each of the members of the herd has been affected by the war, not just horse and wammawink, and my durple boy deserves much love and all the yummy food he can eat

My Thoughts on Centaurworld
Centaurworld is a show that’s pretty much impossible to describe to someone else. It contains such a wide variety of heavy themes and wildly different tones that any description wouldn’t really do the show justice. It can be colorful and quirky one moment and then be dark and tragic the next. One moment you completely understand why this is a Y7 show then the next you have no idea how it managed to get a rating below a PG rating. I will say for certain though that Centaurworld is a wacky, fun, and surprisingly heartfelt ride from start to finish. There’s so much to talk about and cover so I’ll just get right into it.
With season 2 having just released I can talk about the series as a whole. I really enjoyed the whole thing but I will say I think the first season is overall stronger than the second. The first half of the second season meanders and doesn’t quite seem to know what it wants to do and as a result it makes it so that the second half is jam packed with all this progression, character development, and twists that I think would have been better served being spread out over the course of the season. One big thing is that the general should have gotten more screen time and his relationship with rider should have been expanded upon because of how important he is in the finale. Also Wammawink gets sidelined pretty hard in this season in comparison to her role in the first. They seemed to be setting Wammawink up for a much bigger role in the finale in the first season with her being revealed to be a shaman in training, have powerful magic and potential, and have a tragic backstory that makes her the perfect candidate of the characters from centaurworld to want to take the minotaurs down. It just seemed really strange that they would backtrack on Wammawink’s importance especially with how well received she has been.
Pacing issues and Wammawink’s sidelining aside the final 4 episodes of season 2 were really good. They managed to fit a lot of backstory and world building alongside the main story without it feeling overcrowded which is a struggle for most shows to do. And while I think the character build-up between The Nowhere King, The General, and The Purple Haired Woman in the present timeline was lacking I still found their ending to be emotional especially the reprise of the nowhere king lullaby during his final moments.
The characters are probably what is most likely to make or break the series for you. I had a lot of fun with the characters. The only one I wasn’t a big fan of was Durpleton because I wasn’t a fan of the humor that he was used for especially in the first season. I liked him more in the second when he became a father to Stabby and we learned his backstory. Everyone else I really liked with Wammawink and Zulius being my favorites. The reveal of Wammawink’s backstory was really well done. Horse seeing her home destroyed and thinking that she’s returned home only to see a baby Wammawink alone among the wreckage was devastating. That one reveal makes so much about Wammawink snap into place and you completely understand her character in just a few minutes. This along with her moment in the season 1 finale where she asks the purple haired woman to let her go back into the void with her friends really cemented Wammawink as a favorite of mine. Zulius is just pure fun and I love his larger than life energy while still being a team player and caring about his herd which is a welcome departure from his character archetype.
Horse herself has a strong arc in season 1 and I was invested in her getting back to rider. I didn’t expect how far the show would go in exploring the pain and effects of losing a loved one. Episode 8 was a thinly disguised metaphor for depression and suicide that actually covered the topic with quite a lot of tact that I wasn’t expecting from the show because the marketing does not prepare you for the darker aspects of centaurworld at all. I like how Horse becoming more emotional and soft, both literally and metaphorically, is shown as horse growing and doesn’t make her a less capable warrior in the slightest.
I had a lot of fun with this show and I really think that other people should give it a shot. I hope everyone else had as much fun as I did and I can’t wait to see what netflix and Megan Nicole Dong do next in animation. (Netflix is on a roll with its animated originals. They’ve had so many great animated shows release this year. Centaurworld, Arcane, Maya and the Three, Inside Job, etc. Netflix has become my go to for animated shows.)
