Durpleton: Ched, I think you should play my father.
Ched: I don’t want to be your father.
Durpleton: That’s perfect; you already know your lines!

Ok so I feel like I wasn’t too far off overall, he associates being scolded and berated by his abusive father when he farts because him making any sounds and taking up too much space at all was punished and resulted in abuse from his father, and he did have an unmet emotional need of a fathers warmth and love, he literally made a giraffe doll of his father that said it loved him and was proud of him, he couldn’t get that from his own real parents esp dad and so desperately needed this to that extent, which also explains why he ended up projecting his own unmet need onto the character Phillip "Stabby" Bonecrunch (aka "stabby”). I don’t wanna see anymore Durpleton slander after it’s been confirmed he was abused by his dad (including him mentioning that his parents did the ‘durple drop’ to him when he was a kid all the time sounds like it could be an implication of physical abuse, idk it read as a this thing is normal my parents did this to me and I’m fine, either that or it’s just like a centaurworld goofy thing there idk but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was meant to be a subtle hint at physical abuse since the show has already confirmed he was abused by his dad)
Ok but what if Durpleton has some kind of neurodivergence and or disability, what if it led to him struggling performing basic activities and living up to expectations his father had of him, feeling like he could never do anything right, his father would verbally abuse him but internalising it, repeating his own fathers words back to himself, seeing himself as the problem and to blame, and that it’s his own fault for his father’s callousness because maybe if he could just be good enough then his father wouldn’t be like he was, and so he makes sure to be kind to everyone else because he doesn’t want anyone else to feel like he did and also in his perspective to compensate for him not being good enough and therefore running risk of being verbally berated and or rejected by family all over again. Like yeah there’s the silly fart humour, but he’s also clearly got some kind of childhood wound around a father figure and has some kind of unmet emotional need of a fathers warmth and love, why does he need to seek that out from his own farts, maybe that’s because this is Durpleton so why not, but at the same time as that silly aspect maybe he legitimately is being written as having some kind of father wound/issues, maybe it’s the shows way of trying to find that balance between silly goofy ridiculousness and trauma, idk

I’m not gonna lie, but I feel that if Durpleton wasn’t in the overall story of Centaurworld, not much would’ve changed. He didn’t have as much of an impact on the story as the other characters. If there comes another season, I hope he’s explored more.

some srsly tender things about centaurworld that r fuckin killing me rn:
baby girl
how horse has these strong complicated nuanced relationships with female characters and how she grows as a person and how all her character development depends on these relationships
themes of empathy and acceptance and growth and trauma and grief and anxiety
the way horse is so genuinely beloved and how she truly returns that love
nobody teases horse about the ugly crying in frustration tears, theyre all just like awww its okay sh sh just let it out, baby’s first ugly cry. they all absolutely support and console her during the long overdue breakdown and provide her emotional support even though they don’t yet understand where she’s coming from. emotional support within the herd is normal and expected and even though wammawink does overdo it to the point of sheltering them from literally any risky stimulus and keeping their world small, it’s exactly what horse needed to grow instead of tamping down and repressing all of her fears and worries in an unhealthy manner. like yeah her strength comes from loving rider and wanting to protect her but constantly having to be strong was never a sustainable state of existence. horse really needed to just be vulnerable for once in her life and have a breakdown in a safe space amongst people who could comfort her
the implications re: the magical dome shield only being opened from the inside by a group of centaurs and not one single individual because the whole point of it is to keep them all safe and a herd has to willingly decide to leave its protection together
horse absolutely just kicked that whole ass tree to pieces out of anger on behalf of child wammawink after many days of resenting her. no hesitation she just started smashing
baby girl
horse doesnt have to really choose between rider and wammawink’s herd forever, she’s just doing the right thing no matter how painful it may be to make sure everyone can be safe in the end. it’s not a permanent farewell, it’s risking it all on a hope for a better future because they all believe in each other
the herd knows their powers are silly and that they’re just weak small fragile things but they all charge in to save their baby girl anyway, even ched who kept pretending he hated horse until the end
“…with you…”
