I'm mainly reblogging for that one Elrond gif because what. a. cutie.

But also like besides what has been mentioned in the comments about the characterisation of Elrond in the Jackson films being quite a bit off (seriously kind as summer who?) (and this is precisely the reason I and a lot of ROP!Elrond fans are annoyed at the showrunners for saying they want to get closer to the version of Elrond we know from those films because like,,, that's not canon! You do not have to!!!), one possible consistent way you could read that line is like, he's disappointed and pained at how far the dwarves strayed from him and from what Durin stood for (bc gold sickness n stuff) and it's extra harsh precisely because of the bitterness at losing his once-best friend's people to greed and isolation.

Or yknow they remain besties and we all get to be happy that's also an option.

No because I can’t stop thinking about Elrond saying this in FotR -

"The dwarves? They hide in their mountains seeking riches, they care nothing for the troubles of others"

But then thinking about this freaking look he gave Durin hundreds of years earlier

I mean are you kidding me???? These bois - the bestest bros - are in a mineshaft and Durin after repeatedly calling Elrond his brother tries to tell Elrond his secret name only shared between close family and Elrond gives him this look???? Full of brotherly love and affection and friendship and like…. Are you kidding me???
