yellow rose isn’t super high on my list of priorities to update (i think the oneshot is interesting on its own) but one day,,,, it’s part of the many aus cherri and i have but it’s the longest for sure. the doc for just this au is like 100k words long on its own. at the time i draft this cherri and i are actively writing smth else for it in another tab. theres like 4 offshoots and im obsessed w all of them. we had to make ocs about this one. i’m excited to eventually add more to this series

actually that’s one of the scenes i’m most excited for and most dreading adding. we made a backstory oc and im SO attached to him and im excited to post a thing out there w him but. ough. whatever cringe is dead i’ll get there eventually and brute force my way into attaching you to our funky little robot guy

the funny thing abt blindsided is i know all the plot chronologically but now how to Present it which is part of why i haven’t continued too much. eventually i will but until then know that one of the scenes im sitting on which has been fully written is one i think about constantly. hopefully when i post it cherri’ll let free the comic she did for it

and… it was just lamplight’s birthday and i did all my appreciation for the fic and its readers then, but god. i love this fic so much and i love you all who have read it and been so kind about it. the amount of popularity it has makes it a bit nerve wracking to work on, but i still really want to see it finished. i hope to see the bulk of it done by this time next year!

Oh my god Akane has so many good ones how could you make me choose hmmm I love the gun scene like a lot a lot she has so many scenes of her acting that are so funny to me and so many little interactions with so much weight too I obviously want to say the reveal scene of her narrating but honestly it's such a game defining moment that in my heart it's not so much a favorite moment for the character but just generally in fiction of all time ds dual screen playing into the experience my beloved this shit's peak fiction and absolutely everything hinges on this moment like fr it's so good it's insane But okay I'll actually surprise everyone with this and talk about ztd positively actually and claim C-Team ending as my favorite moment for her because it just encapsulates her character perfectly, what she's capable of why she does it how she thinks of herself for it how she still despite everything holds her memories with Junpei very dear in what's kind of a selfish way the imagery of the blood red moon all as she is at her wits end realizing just how much she was playing right into some other Zero's hand like these are all great conceptually! I can only imagine a world where the execution of and context for these ideas didn't fall flat as hell on it's face also shout out for the voice actors carrying the few good moments of this game btw

15. what i dont like about the way canon portrayed them

Aside from how ztd generally just treats everyone in terms of framing and where the story goes and especially seems to erase details we had very well estabilished on her from her mind and characterization y'know forgetting she's not an only child not being afraid of fire being okay with nurses etc etc Then there's not much I dislike really, like, as much as it pains me to see her turn out so callous and utilitarian and ruining people's lives for the 'greater good' it's still such a good development for her regardless in a way you don't often see and I'm thankful for it. Like honestly it's important to me to keep this in mind for her characterization even when I'm writing fics where almost nothing bad happens after she saves herself in 999, those traits never manage to take such a strong hold on her while still being there, so, I deny canon but I accept her as she is <3 lmao okay I guess there is one thing I disagree and it's just that I like to think she wouldn't be as okay with murder as she supposedly is? I don't think she'd never do it herself, fucking far from it, I just think she wouldn't own up to it? Try to remove herself from it however she can I dunno or maybe even just doing it on auto pilot just absolutely seething without a word or saying stuff that's more calculated still, like the fire extinguisher bit is so funny but I do wish she sounded less hysterical about it? It doesn't quite fit her, it feels like I'm watching some random dating sim with a secret route where the girl goes crazy, also she sounds so silly with the chainsaw lol

I don't like how she's friends with Ota specifically lmao okay not necessarily by which I mean I think it's weird that the fact all her friends being adults is something we're meant to practically ignore? It's not an inherently negative thing but it's mostly addressed as jokes at best but it's weird about what that means for her development wise or what it means for the characters she is friends with like they give her this presumed competence that is brushed off as her being 'so mature for her age' and so ahead of the other kids so we might as well treat her like we're peers but that. That has ramifications and implications and that's one of the things I relate to her own! So I know what I'm talking about it just feels shallow when it feels like it'd have some more relevance especially from Date's pov when it comes to assuming that same competence about combat and putting her in harm's way I guess it comes down to the more silly tone of AI but it's also a me thing to look at this and see missed potential because I know the nuance in those relationships and what it can do to a kids perception of self very well

Okay, here we go!

I used to use height sliders/presets, mostly for children and teenagers because I’d use poses with height difference for adults. I had this height slider (+ some other presets from them, I recommend checking the whole blog out and see what you like) and these body presets for kids and toddlers.

But a while ago I started making all my story poses. And, for that, I’ve made a rig for most of my main characters set with their actual heights + a little height study/reference thing with them and their ages (because some heights will change over time).

Yes, I’ve added an extra N to Sue’s name because I discovered Susana is the Portuguese/Spanish spelling. And I thought I’d have known....

So, whenever I’m posing them, I just grab their rig and the height difference is already there. If I’m feeling lazy, I edit the height on other people’s poses so it will be tailor made for them c:

Now, for posing extras...

As far as I know, there are two 'methods’ to approach the nightmare that is shooting scenes with extras:

A) GREEN SCREEN & COMPOSITION

This method consists in shooting your main subject separately, removing the background and composing from scratch OR shooting extras separately and adding them to a picture (or both). It’s quite good because you can tailor the scene with more precision and, of course, have a controlled environment.

@captainmrbored is really skilled when it comes to making scenes this way, so, if that’s a ‘method’ that interests you, I suggest checking some of his tips here.

and

B) SAY A PRAYER & POWER THROUGH

This conventional way consists on having townies as your extras. If you are a masochist like most simmers, you’ll have 20/30 sims on your lot for balls, banquets, protests, wars, whatever.

I will not lie to you: unless you are using deco sims instead of townies, this method is chaotic. But it’s doable! And if you are not very skilled with Photoshop and editing in general, such as yours truly, this is the way to go. 

Here is what it looks like in my game:

It’s not that bad. It’s just a bit stressful because Sims will snap out of their position now and then, so you’ll have to pose your 20 extras again and again and again and ag--

The T.O.O.L. mod is my best friend on scenes like this because it allows you to move already posed sims w/o making them snap.

Also, here is a little “trick”. 

Sometimes, you simply can’t pose 30, 40, 50 sims. It’s too just much.. So, you gotta do some cinematic tricks. If you have a wide angle or if you have visible gaps between sims, it’s easier to notice that you don’t actually have a lot of people in the scene.

So, don’t be afraid of scrolling that mouse wheel and zooming in. Personally, it does make a difference and helps with the suspension of disbelief.

(Btw, their heights are not accurate in these last shots because I just used random poses to make a point!)

Obviously, these are just my personal preferences and things that help me shoot scenes! There is never one single valid way of visually telling stories, so try out many things until you find a method that works for you and what your scenes demand!

Some other things that I do while shooting with extras:

1) Make establishing shots that show how full the set is. This way, I can focus on my main subjects without too many sims around them because “it is already established that the place is packed”.

2) Be mindful of my subject’s position on the frame and how I’ll fill in the gaps.

3) Depth of field. Can be achieved with Reshade and/or editing.

Also, also! I’m no pro. So these examples also have some of the things I said to avoid lmao. But I’m still learning and practice makes perfect, I supppose? I dunno, someone told me that when I was 5 and I felt fooled.

You were staying at your friend's house and said friend had a sibling who also had a friend over. Low and behold, Ennoshita is the friend they had over! Call it a "I'm inlove with my friend's sibling's friend" fic because that is it!

Anyway, you properly spoke when the four of you were having food, ordering some take-out to have for a lil treat! You all sat down at the table to enjoy your food because hey, you've all got manners.

While your friend and Ennoshita's friend argued as and are annoying each other- as sinblings do- you both are just there awkwardly sitting and eating, unsure of whether either of you even want to get involved.

But instead! Ennoshita starts talking to you, starting on the common ground of "gosh, they couldn't have waited until later amirite" ok he didn't word it like that but I'm not used to writing his character voice im sorry.

So you both talk a little, and your friend and their sibling but into the conversation too and you all talk together for a while after they have gone back to being civil! It was fun and sweet innit.

RELATIONSHIP HEADCANONS

I feel like Ennoshita is a dude with a really calming presence hnnn. Like you can feel a little less anxious around him cause he has such a warm and accepting presence :] It was definitely easy to get close to him because he was so easy to talk to.

When he finds out you've joined a fandom he will jump head first into it too, no doubt. He loves having common interests with you, talking and discussing them. He would probably give commentary on things on a call with you as he catches up with it, if you are comfortable ofc. Probably looks at a really cool character and associates them with you so he's just like "yo!! you remind me of them!!" he is so positive abt your interests grr

He is consistentally checking up on you and encouraging you to talk about yourself and how you feel!! Communication and honesty are important to him in relationships, and even though he knows it can take time he wants to make sure that you can get to that point with him!

But that's besides the point- because Ennoshita has played a lot of games. I'm not sure what games you play, but I feel like his personal favourite is sims, he finds it very funny.

He's a pretty quiet guy, so I firmly believe that's it's easy for you both to sit down in a very comfortable silence and just enjoy the fact that you're sharing each other's presence :] yikes why did i write that so nicely, but it is very nice and comfy so ig it fits

Library/Book shop dates!! Maybe you've finished all the books you have copies of and want to get some new ones, so you both go out and look around to see what you can get!! It's very fun and sometimes you'll find ones that are kind of ridiculous and just laugh at them. It's a fun thing to do.

I feel like he would like to teach you a lil bit of volleyball, especially since you like learning new skills. It'll be a really out of the blue thing to pop up on you, like it'll have nothing to do with the convo and he's like "!!! btw wanna practice some volleyball with me??" He likes to help you learn new skills however he can :D

Your love languages being words of affirmation+physical touch probably reallly help her feel affirmed in the relationship. She's insecure, so the reminder that you love her is never something that goes underappreciated!!! I'm not sure why but I feel like she's horrible at baking, despite the fact that she feels atleast semi-confident in her skills, so you baking with her!!! She tends to take more of a back-seat when baking with you, letting you lead the way, listing the instructions and ingrediants. She likes to see what you do :]

Naps!!! Juniper is the type to have her emotional energy reflect on her physical energy, so I feel like she gets sleepy easily when she's having an extra tiresome day. It'd be cute for you two to just curl up together and cuddle until you fall asleep <3

Juniper would probably love to share her hobbies with you. She would take you out and show you have to take care of plants, or take you to woods to info dump about flowers and fungi around the place. I think she would like to help you with puzzles. She certainly isnt as adapted to them as much as you have, but sometimes she clicks and she'll go "oh! i must have been like, 6 or 5 or something? we had a big Proper Computer (where the monitor and processor were separate) when i was little instead of a laptop and i distinctly remember playing it on that. i’m not quite sure how (i better ask my dad about it) because i have no idea if we used steam or not because i don’t remember much other than the actual game.

my dad’s an architect, and wanted to play video games w me, so we played sim city and world of goo because he was into them too, and i just remember it very vividly bc i’d sit on his lap and try and like, strategize w him about what to build. i think at some point we stopped playing it on the computer and played it on the ipad because my dad got an ipad for his birthday once - so i MUST have been six because the ipad released when i was 6. i don’t think i ever originally finished it when i was 6, but when i was playing it with dad as a kid i

i dunno my memory’s not great but i have these very vivid emotions left over from it, especially that fucking FROG LEVEL in chapter one that i think me and dad completed like once ever. i remember really really enjoying chapter 1, and i remember feeling really emotional about chapter 2? which if i recall correctly is the one with the beauty goo and the strange woman machine that powers a factory with her beauty? like i remember it feeling Important. but i’m not sure in what way. i remember loving the levels with the albino goo balls in chapter 1.

i dont remember when it was but chapter 3 gave me those same feelings of This Is Important but I Don’t Quite Understand How Or Why. as in, it had a kind of emotional impact on me that i’m not sure i understood at the time. also i remember it feeling dark and weird but also fun and hard, and working out the puzzles was super satisfying.

a few years later i finally finished the game that i remember (i could have finished it earlier, i dunno, my memory’s never been great) and i remember feeling really emotional about it. the last chapter of world of goo is genuinely incredibly emotional for me. just, the hope and the future in it all, and how beautiful it looks, and all that. i can’t quite express the emotions that it gave me but they were real big.

i definitely think that game had some effect on my politics because i came back to it a few years ago and FUCK is that a socialist game. there’s an entire arc about how capitalism values beauty in terms of it literally being used to power a machine, and in some of those levels you have to use the ‘ugly’ goo balls to fill up holes so that the ‘pretty’ goo balls can pass over. there’s a malicious corporation that uses the goo balls to power their machines and in the very end of the game, you destroy the corporation’s supercomputer, which encases the world in smog, and then the goo balls climb as high as they can, steal a telescope and escape. it had such a genuine emotional effect on me as a kid. i think it’s really beautiful

also the fucking music. god, the music. genuinely gives me chills and its been like, exactly 10 years since i first played it. there’s one level i have a really vivid memory and has stuck with me all this time of because i remember feeling so happy when i finally beat it with dad and it’s Ode To The Bridge Builder.

i am not lying when i say that the music for this level is one of the most genuinely beautiful pieces of music i have ever heard. i think its the lighting of the level, and the music, and the feeling of heroism that this level has that makes it stick in my head.

world of goo is one of my favourite games in the world and had such a GENUINE effect on me as a kid. i think it’s fucking cool.
