Watched a movie last night called Love in Bloom about a florist who goes to australia for her sister's wedding and falls in love with the best man, an animal vet.

It was super boring. Like, there's room for improvement in making it supercorp, but I dunno if it's worth the bandwidth tbh.

I think part of it is that the description was a little misleading on the summary tile. Like, it was touted as the florist finding inspiration in an inn's idyllic gardens, which it kinda was, but it wasn't the main focus.

If it had been me writing, I would have had the innkeeper/gardener as a love interest for the florist. Which means it would be Kara the florist going to Ireland for a wedding and meeting Lena the innkeeper who designed and upkeeps the gardens.

It's quiet, and Lena would love to have more guests, but doesn't know how to get her inn out there. When Kara tags the inn in the wedding photos on instagram, the word gets out and Lena is able to share her magical gardens with more people.

Which means Kara would be the anxious uptight florist with an unhappy relationship who is having a crisis of conscience choosing between job security and her dream of opening a florists shop like her mom once had.

I use to mainly lurk before making an account for one reason or another. Though the one thing I'm confused about is likes. I use it as a 'save post' button to find easily later. That's normal, right? These days, Reblogging seems to have fallen into a niche- Twitter uses likes to share things, Instagram has Likes instead of shares but Tumblr has reblogs.

There is no algorithm, there is little to nothing where people can find our art - written, drawn, etc.- We are basing it on people liking certain tags and then sharing it with their likeminded followers.

A lot of us have had bad ratios, where the number of likes HEAVILY outshine the reblogs.

Its not uncommon to see 252 Likes v 24 reblogs.

Likes dont do shit for anyone in this site. Its just a kudos. Its the reblogs- where you share it to more and more people thats better.

As for the likes as a Save Post button, that's not normal no. Ive never really seen people use that to go back and find a post.

I see people reblog and add #save post or #Need this for later so it can be found. I highly suggest using that method instead.

This ended up more ranty then i intended but ive been here when reblogs and likes were even side to side.

And if you dont want to post it on your main blog, create a side blog for it.

4. What part of this piece was the most difficult to draw?

It's exactly what you might expect: Frodo's left arm (the one holding the phone) in the last panel definitely gave me some trouble. I was trying to find a pose that both a) looked natural and b) made Frodo's tattoo visible; you can actually see how many lines I drew and erased in the zoomed-in picture in this reblog.

I also had to try multiple different positions and designs for the tattoo before I found one that I liked. In a few early attempts, the tattoo actually went down the length of his arm! But in the end, I'm glad I kept it contained to the wrist.

6. What is your favorite part of this piece?

Oh man, it's so hard to pick! I love all of the modern designs, and I think most of the drawings turned out really well. (Pippin looks a bit wonky, but that's just because I'm not used to drawing people who are upside down.) In the end, I think my favorite part is just the slew of "Benadryl Cabbagepatch" names. That was a HYSTERICAL day on the Fig Tree Server, and I love seeing everyone's creativity and crazy senses of humor coming together like this! X-D

Design Choices

All four of the main hobbits (Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin) have a bracelet with a Single Bead, indicating they are part of the Core Friend Group

Merry wears dog tags and a watch. I imagine he has served in the military in some capacity, or aspires to do so; and the watch is there because he's the kind of detail-oriented person who's very concerned with being on time.

Sam and Rosie have matching bracelets: his is the sun, and hers is the moon. (Someone pointed out that the little thing hanging off her phone also looks like a sun. This is correct, but the bracelets were supposed to be the matching set.)

Rosie is also the only one of the gang to have a decorative phone case and a PopSocket.

Aragorn's mug says "GONDOR U", and the icon on his laptop is the shards of Narsil. It's kinda hard to see, but he also has a ring on his left hand, indicating that he's either engaged or married to Arwen.

Frodo gets the most Easter eggs. He too has a watch, because he's the sort to at least TRY to be on time; he has the tattoo, reading "worth f;ghting for", as aforementioned; and his shirt is a polo from the company Hang Ten, as indicated by the little feet embroidered on the lapel! I chose that one for two reasons: number one, little feet is Very Hobbity, and number two, they're my dad's favorite brand of polo. (He likes the little feet.)

PHONE DETAILS. Merry, Pippin, and Legolas are the only ones to have Extremely Fancy New Phones with three cameras on the back, because they are rich kids who can afford to have that sort of thing. Gimli is also rich, but his phone only has two cameras because he's not an Instagrammer. Sam and Rosie only have two-camera phones because theirs are cheaper older models. Everyone has phone cases except for Legolas. Gimli's phone case is a Particularly Chunky Heavy-Duty OtterBox. Aragorn is the only one with a laptop because he's Old. And, as aforementioned, Rosie is the only one who has a PopSocket.

Initial Conversation

I did actually plan the chat in the first panel very carefully! If you look at the time stamps beside the messages, you can see how the conversation picks up speed. It starts with Frodo declining some kind of an activity that night, saying he's busy with something else. Pippin responds, asking what he's doing. Frodo replies and sends photographic evidence, calling Bilbo "Beebo". Sam thinks this is very funny and repeats "Beebo". Frodo, encouraged by Sam thinking this is funny, doubles down the joke with "Beebo Bongos". Then Merry jumps in with "Blorbo Bagpipes". By this point, messages are coming in within the same minute, and then the rest of the chaos unfolds. X-D

Anyway, thanks for giving me an excuse to ramble about this comic! I had a lot of fun drawing it and I'm delighted to share the Deep Lore LOL

Completed my Monday ritual for submitting to wip blog about feedback. Woo. Topics include:

Tumblr Live toggle + broken Tumblr Live filtering in the Followers tab. I'm assuming the "not filtering" is intentional, but, it's a bug because those are not my Followers, so I'm doing my duty. I still don't want Tumblr Live, but at least it's less of a shock.

Status update on reblog chains. Shortly after they broke, staff said they were aware of it and were looking into solutions. I haven't been super actively looking for an update, but this is a pretty big for discovery and haven't seen it addressed in WIP for a while, so figured it was worth asking for an update (and hope they haven't scrapped it). If there is a push *somewhere* about increasing engagement, this feels like it was one of the main ways! I wanna follow the trail again. I found so many cool posts and blogs this way.

The login wall on the Archive. I dunno how long this has been around, but I noticed it recently-ish because I went through and tagged my art posts on my art blog with "#my art" so I could filter it out from reblogs in the archive. I had plans to share that archive filter with everyone, some of which don't have Tumblr, because I love how that Archive summaries my work. But if they plan to keep it locked then...honestly? Might have to start posting art somewhere else that has an archive like that. Tumblr's tagging system was really good though, but maybe there are alternatives that I'll like. I also said that if there are plans to lock down the whole site then Tumblr isn't going to be my focus point anymore. Something like that.

Didn't send an ask about the dashboard layout because as much as I dislike the feel of it, I understand the end result of communicating more information. I gave feedback before about how crammed it was and suggestions to have a "cozy" and "compact" versions. Maybe another week I'll submit it again.

ok since tears of the kingdom is coming out like. insanely soon i figured i’ll just dump how i’ve been feeling abt it here. i wont tag for them and i dont intend to share any but because i have been actively seeking out spoilers i will vaguely reference them here so… idk really long musings on this game and my feelings abt it

(im just writing this out mostly for myself since i really kind of just. want to really figure out how i feel about this)

i… am not excited for totk?

i’ve figured out a bit ago that my severely waning interest in botw and general anxiety and discontent surrounding totk is just that… these games arent for me. i dont enjoy open world games with half a million things for you to do like it’s basically a sandbox. i struggle to really enjoy singleplayer minecraft. the space stage in spore gives me genuine anxiety, both when i played it as a kid and again when i reached it as an adult.

botw and totk are not games for me, and that’s cool. i’ve figured that out.

so why am i getting so damn anxious about this new game?

i am getting totk- not entirely of my own volition, i live with someone who is very genuinely excited for it, so it’s pre-ordered digitally on our switch. i am going to play it and complete it at least once.

the gameplay and world of botw never really got to me, and even what snippets of gameplay i see for totk dont really entice me. it just makes me anxious to think about the sheer amount of new stuff i’ll be dropped in the middle of and how i really dont care about this version of link or zelda or anyone else in botw’s hyrule

and some of the story spoiler stuff and general direction this game is going in has me just worried that the zelda series is moving away from what it used to be into an entirely new direction, that being a direction that it seems like i wont enjoy as much as everyone else seems to

so then i guess my main worry outside of totk is that i just end up struggling to really feel connected to the rest of the community about this? being a contrarian is fun until everyone is enjoying something you for some reason can’t get yourself to

i dont have a lot of hope in the story of totk to harken back to… ANYTHING of worth that past games have built up and made to be so important and interesting. hype is a dangerous thing for a not-yet-released game, and while i think the insane amount of speculation and theories and hype around totk will cause a lot of people to be disappointed with the final story, i dunno if i really wouldve liked it even if the story actually piqued my interest

maybe totk’s gameplay will really hook me. maybe i’ll enjoy the massive open world and gmod-ass gimmicks. but what ive seen of the story makes me less interested and the snippets of gameplay i see just make me remember how bored i now am with botw

at the end of the day this is just a video game with tags on this site i can blacklist and videos i can ignore and lore i can brush aside because at this point loz canon is a suggestion more than anything

i just cant shake the discomfort of once again being an outlier as everyone i see loses their mind about this new game while i just feel overwhelmed by it. i have played botw for a long time and have long since worn it out. i played age of calamity to completion and have not touched it or cared for it beyond the music since. i am not excited about totk and i feel like i am in the wrong due to my opinion

1. Favorite whump trope(s)?

Okay so right now the things eating my brain alive are hypothermia, self-sacrifice, and like...the moment someone finds the whumpee, if that makes sense? I love a good Finding And Realization from a rescuer.

2. Least favorite whump trope(s)?

Reallyyyyy really not a fan of pet whump, for many reasons. I have my own story that features it, but that's because I know where I'm going with it and can avoid all the stuff I hate about it. Also betrayal? I dunno, I've been betrayed enough IRL, it just makes me too sad. :(

3. Top 3 whump scenes and why?

OKAY SO. Hear me out. I'll do my best to avoid spoilers!

The main ending of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Time/Space/Sky. They're just so sad and heart-wrenching. You've just saved the world and you know that you're about to disappear from existence and leave your very best friend behind, who thinks that all the danger is past. You accepted this mission knowing it would be your very last adventure, ever, but they have no clue. As you two are walking back to the Pokemon who will ferry you back to all your other friends and family and the life you've built together, you start to disappear. And your best friend turns around and notices. There's way more to the ending that twists that knife deeper, and that's ALL stuff you know will absolutely be happening as you choose to play that mission, but it's so well written and it's worth playing through the game to get to experience the whole thing yourself. It still hits pretty hard even if you go in knowing, I'll be honest.

In His Dark Materials, there is an arc where the two main characters go through a HORRIFICALLY scary gauntlet. I'm not going to say what that is because people I love need to watch the series with me, but at the very end, they escape. One character cuts through reality into a new dimension, and they step from this bleak hellscape into a beautiful, picturesque grassland at night. The stars are bright and plentiful, the wind is warm and soft, and both characters just collapse together in awe and exhaustion, not even able to find a suitable place to sleep because they haven't gotten any real rest since that gauntlet started. It was just very well described in the books, the prose was gorgeous, and I don't know how many times I reread that scene when I was little.

I also REALLY loved Kaworu's scene where he takes the destruction collar off of Shinji in the Evangelion Rebuild movies. I dunno, it's touching and sad, and the look of horror on Shinji's face when he sees the one person who's been so nice to him easily shoulder that burden is really good. There's just something about that sort of devotion to someone that kills me.

4. Top 3 characters to whump and why?

c:< Right now my mage and dragon duo, Mariano and Bastian, are taking up so much room in my brain, but I also love whumping my good sweet reaper Will and @that-one-thespian's and @brinkofdiscovery's characters. Collabs are just such favs!

5. Favorite fandom for whump (show, series, etc)?

Pokemon, and Arknights! Pokemon is fun to just do whatever in, because sure, send your ocs on the late adventures they never got to have as kids, it'll be a good mix of fun and whimsy and angst and pain. TONS of shit you can do in Pokemon AUs. And Arknights just has such an interesting, terrifying world to play in, and gives you an excuse to make your OCs have little animal ears and tails.

6. Do you prefer written or watchable whump?

Written! I like to reread the particularly tasty bits, it just feels right.

7. Do you also like hurt/comfort?

But for real, it's always been my fav genre of fic, and my fav scenes in anything are USUALLY hurt/comfort!

8. What do you think the difference between hurt/comfort and whump is?

I think h/c is the more widely known term, and whump is newer, but the biggest difference that I can think of is that whump doesn't always have comfort. Sort of a "not all rectangles are squares, but every square is a rectangle" scenario.

9. How would you explain whump to someone who’s not familiar with it?

Oh I've literally said "Okay, so you know the juicy bits in a story? Where someone gets hurt, or is in danger, or something bad happens? That's whump." Gets the vibe across, doesn't over-complicate it, and doesn't sound defensive.

10. Is there any old whump you particularly enjoy? (say, pre 2000?)

I mean I DO love Pokemon, and the first season was just FULL of good child-friendly angst and whump that almost always has a happy ending. I think "Snow Way Out" was my fav (and counts, it was released in the US in December of 1999) because Ash tried so hard to keep his team warm when they were trapped in a blizzard but then THEY decided to help keep HIM warm. Super cute scene, absolutely flipped a switch in my little five-year-old brain.

11. Why do you think you like whump?

My half-joking answer: It's because I didn't get enough attention and care shown to me when I was a child, so now it's my characters' problem.

My half serious answer: I dunno, it's fun! I've always been an "intense stories" sort of person, even when my friends and I were playing with stuffed animals and Barbies, so I haven't really thought too hard about it. I like horror too. maybe I'm just drawn to that sort of controlled intensity.

12. When did you realize you liked whump?

I learned the word at 22-ish, but like I said, Pokemon definitely flipped some switch in me when I was five!

Hmm, lately I've been really digging the prompts by @warmblanketwhump and @whumpster-dumpster! I don't really do gifsets or pics, because I like to browse in my downtime at work, but I can always appreciate more ideas. c:

14. Are you ��out” to people in real life?

Oh yeah, I'm of the mindset that if I don't make it weird, it won't feel weird to the people I tell. I'm not gonna show my boss or anything, but my BF and friends know. Plus, with how I explain it, it just feels like most people would see the draw, especially with how much I openly like horror.

15. How did you find the whump community?

I was so, so bored at work, and running out of things to look at, and I remembered seeing the term "whump" somewhere before. So I slapped it in the search bar and started poking around!

16. Any unusual mediums you like for whump (plays, music, vlogs, etc)?

Ooo music definitely, if I can find a good inspiring song for a character or piece I'm writing then I'm SUCH a happy camper.

17. Any meta about whump you’ve been dying to share?

I think that personally a lot of people would feel much more secure in their love of whump if they took a page from how furries handle things. Just...be a little harmlessly, unabashedly weird. It IS a little weird to be so fixated on fictional suffering, and that's FINE. Who cares! Just accept that everyone is a little weird and enjoy it!

There are some dangerous weirdos here, sure but like, that's just the internet babes, relax, there are worse things you can do than stab your friend's OC for the 20th time so that your OC can patch them up with intense homoerotic undertones.

20. Top 3 favorite whump fics?

Oh no I can't PICK why do I have to PICK??

If I HAVE to, this one just destroyed me when @that-one-thespian wrote it. I had dreams during the writing process where I'd get half awake from excitement because I dreamed that I'd gotten a notification for it. It's the second part in a little series we're collabing on, and I love seeing the team's whole dynamic in action! (Also Archer calling Mariano firecracker is just. Very cute. Very cute and powerful.)

Scott @friendlylocalwhumper is also just one of my fav writers too, and he doesn't delve into super graphic gore often BUT god I go feral when he does. This drabble is absolutely fantastic. Maxon is so scary, and Quinn is so sure of themself, and that can only lead to terrible terrible things. His prose is just nice to read! I devoured this one before bed the MOMENT it was written.

Also @brinkofdiscovery has FANTASTIC characters and imagery when he writes. It's been such a pleasure developing our lores together and seeing where we intersect and diverge with it all, but god I'm in love with how he describes his Death's domain in this piece. The red light, the salt, it's so good. Also Tyler is so fascinating as a character, I wanna study him under a microscope until he tries to kill about it.

21. Tropes you think are overdone?

I...cannot stand pet whumpees? And spineless whumpees. It's just something I can't do, I don't find them interesting and they just lose my attention really quickly. But that's why I don't really follow a lot of blogs who write those things!

22. Tropes you think we could use more of?

I want more bitey whumpees, give me whumpees who are just a little insane, a little batshit. I want them to go stupid and crazy and suffer the consequences after winning. I think that's what draws me to Mariano! He's so calm and even-keeled but also so, so willing to just throw himself into wildly dangerous scenarios and fight like he's going to die. He makes calculated risks, and is generally good at that math, but sometimes said math includes "will I need to burn myself alive to survive this?" and he just doesn't mention it.

It honestly fluctuates with my mood! But literally everything does, so that's just normal. Lately I've just been super into environmental whump! It really brings the "in the end, he's still just a human being"-ness of Mariano out, and I love that. c:<

Back at it again. A year since I posted Beneath Her Mask. Same thing as last time. Fun facts or just looking back at something I done did write once upon a time exactly a year ago.

This is going to be very "stream of consciousness" and probably hard to read, but here goes.

First off, wow that title sucks. I came up with it like right before posting and then rolled with it. Nowadays I would put off uploading something for MONTHS if I couldn't figure out an original and interesting title. Oops.

Anyway, this one is a lot better than the last one. Promise. The whole thing is a little bit iffy still, but I was very new. The formatting is the main issue I have with. The concept is...fine, although I think I could have gone a little bit further with and then lead into where this one starts. Ya know, inform the reader as to the situation that lead to Makoto's desire to keep everything to herself? But I kinda made it ambiguous on purpose. Good thing I didn't have to follow up on this a few months later... Oh wait. The stakes were just: awkward. No gay panic (like the tags say, oops), no internalized anything, no worries over team cohesion with members of the PTs dating, none of that. If I would ever go back and rewrite this (don't fucking tempt me) I would definitely expand on things a lot more. But hey, I probably shouldn't try and go back and fix all my old stuff. I'd never get anything done otherwise.

Oh yeah, Makoto's "113 decibel alarm clock" is a real thing. I actually have one. I sleep through every other alarm clock out there. The thing is so good, it will actually scare you awake. Pretty nice. (If probably a little too loud for apartment living in Japan where the walls are very thin.)

Oh yeah, and the tense a few times. Annoying.

I dunno why I made it three chapters. It's just over 3.5k words. That would have been fine to keep as a single chapter one-shot, but I think I just had a hard time with having scenes switch mid-chapter. Chapters are a good way to signal a scene switch, but nowadays I'll just use a line break and go with it. I've just improved as a writer, I think, and so now my old mistakes bug the shit out of me.

If I named all the issues I had, I'd be here all day. So, what did I get right with this? I think the concept is alright. The dialogue is good at points. The scene in Leblanc is pretty good. Good guy Sojiro being cool with lesbians (very cool of him). And the text convos at the end are also pretty okay. The "out of your league" comment still gets me for some reason. It's kinda funny.

Also I made a custom dialogue option for Akira, referencing the very first thing he says at the beginning of the story. I think it turned out okay. (I'd like to do more art/edits relevant to my writing. I've thought about making cover/chapter art for my current project. I guess we'll see how I'm feeling. A little wattpad-y of me, but it'd be interesting.)

I'm just now realizing that I should've made the "third option" a little cheeky. Maybe something like "Come here often?" or whatever. Ah well. Next time.

So, overall? It's an improvement. It's not perfect, but it was the second thing I'd ever written. (Once again, I don't count the RE one. I should probably anon it tbh.)

Anyway, that was something. The next "retrospective" (I guess that's what these are now) will be on Beneath Their Masks.

That one is a doozy, and I think I'm going to have a decent amount to say about it. It's also really long, so that's also a thing I'm gonna have to worry about. I'll probably do that on 10/1 because that's when I posted the first chapter. Maybe I'll have enough time to write up mini retrospectives for each chapter? And then post those throughout October? That could be interesting. And tiring. But still, interesting. I could pull the original upload dates since I made a tumblr in between ACIFT and BHM. Although those are going to be VERY spaced out, especially near the end. So much for doing a month's worth of prompts WITHIN the month. But I'll save all my whining for when those go up.

Okaaay this is gonna be a long post.. You ask me about my favorite fic writers and I'm afraid you're gonna be getting a list, pal, along with the other questions.

28.) Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.

...I'm not tagging anybody, so I'll just give the AO3 usernames and you guys can go explore.

First up: InkFlavored. I, absolutely, adore her work and one of his fanfictions was actually the first fic I read for this fandom! He has some incredible works that I've adored reading. She has influenced my writing style and inspired me to improve as a writer. I definitely think you should go check out any of her works! (Hopefully, I got the pronouns right...)

Second up: The famous toffeecape. I love so many of their fanfics and I usually reread their fics when I'm struggling to write smut or for a fun Egyptian history lesson. They have a perfect balance of absolute filth, fluff, and humor that makes many of their works my favorites.

Third up: I gotta say Phoebeus. They wrote an awesome rewrite of the Yugioh canon and I remember reading the entirety of the series within one night. It's also been a huge inspiration to my writing and I think that they're an incredible writer. Definitely worth checking out as well.

...It's like you purposefully wanted me to go on some huge ass tangent. Do you like hearing me talk? Cause that's what you're getting-

I'm currently working on church smut, a surfing AU that I plan to post sometime during the summer, a fic that I meant to post for Christmas (but will now be saving for next Christmas...), a high school choir AU, a sequel series to my Unhealthy series, a Witcher AU?, and... I dunno, my mafia AU, a trans Atem fic somewhere, high school AU with fanfic writer Yugi and popular kid Atem, and-y'know, you have to be seeing a pattern now.

Mostly the church smut, though. That's my main project and it will be followed by many more that don't include anything that I listed above. If you wanna ask for details about a specific one of those stories, go for it.

38.) Talk about a review that made your day.

OKAY. Probably when I posted A First For Everything. Somebody left an extremely long review of the whole story and I almost started sobbing because it just was so heartwarming. I knew that story wouldn't get too much attention and I'm very proud of it, so it was really nice to see somebody just appreciate it and go on their own little rambling about it.

SEVEN SWEEPS BEFORE THE PRESENT DAY

“Are we there yet?” Jamie complained, stepping in yet another puddle. “Why do you like to walk forever, Kas?”

The tealblood next to him grinned.

“You make silly faces!” She said proudly.

“You’re gonna have a silly face when I’m done. A sillier face.” The cobalt grumbled, trying to aim a sly kick at his friend’s shins, but the lower caste hopped back expertly…into a bunch of mud that splattered on her, and he cracked up laughing.

Kasumi pouted, and picked up some goop to fling at the highblood, when a disapproving growl came and both young trolls whirled around to see the tealblood’s fluffy lusus standing there.

The tanuki flicked mud at her charge with a paw, before scurrying over and nosing her onward with her short snout.

“We’re going, we’re going!” Complained the five sweep old, as her freckled friend broke out in a cackle.

“I’m glad my dad can’t do that!” He said gleefully. “He’s too little.”

“You’re too little.” Countered the tealblood, raising her voice to be heard as the canine ushered her closer to their goal.

Jamie caught up easily, nimbly skipping around more wet and muddy spots, a grin his only response.

Finally the two drew close to the shrine they were expected at. Where one of them was expected, at least, and the other had insisted on tagging along.

Hanabi forced them into the showers, and afterward they stood on the warming stones, long ago enchanted to nigh-instantly dry any troll who stood on them.

Jamie whistled in appreciation as the magical arrays lit up and he became warm, stretching his arms and legs.

“Nice, very nice. All right, this better be worth it!”

“I didn’t make you come!” Retorted the tealblood, hands on her hips. “You attached on me like…like…” She bit her lip, trying to think of the word in Standard.

“Velcro?” Offered the blueblood helpfully.

“No.” She said dismissively. “Like…a bug, a nasty bug.”

“An ant.” He said, a mischievous grin stretched across his pointy face.

Kasumi squinted at him suspiciously, but decided it wasn’t worth pursuing, as her lusus barked to summon them into the main space.

She followed obediently, sitting down on a cushion with her legs spread out, yawning widely. Hanabi made an amused chuffing noise and Kas stuck her tongue out.

“How’s your lusus going to tell me anything?” Jamie said, sitting next to the tealblood and taking off his glasses to clean them. “I won’t be able to understand her, will I? I thought we were going to see a troll.”

“Shush.” insisted the midblood.

Hanabi vanished, and the whole space became dark.

Then the place lit up with glowing symbols and Jamie had to stifle his gasp as he put his glasses back on. Kas smirked, but it turned into a real smile; she still found this impressive even though she’d seen it before. A voice spoke, a voice she knew to her lusus’s - a secret she knew she must always keep.

Long, long ago, when magic was far stronger in the world, in an age when demons and spirits roamed freely among trolls...

The story took a while, and when it was done, Kasumi felt her digestion sac ache for food. Fortunately, they kept a fridge at the shrine. Hanabi still wasn’t in sight, but Kas knew her lusus was probably watching her.

She looked in the fridge without really seeing the options.

“Hey, what’s wrong?”

She shook her head.

“Nothing.” She said, shrugging, then bit her lip.

“Well, I liked the story.” Jamie declared. “I’d say it was juuuust worth coming for! Just about.” He grinned, but then it faded when he saw Kas’s face fall.

“Kas, come on, what’s up?”

The tealblood looked down.

“Do you ever think there’s something wrong with you?” She said, voice unsure. “Like...you’re not who you’re supposed to be?”

“Uh, no.” Jamie said, bemused. “Why d’you feel that way?”

She grabbed an apple and started to eat it, chewing through a few bites before answering.

“I dunno.” She said, still staring at the floor. “I feel like...I don’t look right. In the myths, the Takamis are all girls...”

“Well, yeah. You’re a girl too.” said the cobalt, and Kasumi grimaced.

“What?” he asked.

“Mmmmm.” she just said, then hugged herself. “I don’t know.”

“Well, whatever you are you’re annoying.” He said cheerfully, and was pleased to see his friend scowl.

“Shut up!”

Jamie dodged the apple thrown at him, cackling again as the tealblood chased him around the shrine.
