Christian Musical Journey part 1: Classics (Y2K and earlier)
Carrying on from the prologue earlier this year, I think it’s about time to get started on this series. Considering that it entails reviewing a load of music while I’m busier than ever with the new home and everything, I figured instead of dumping everything in one post (as I tend to do nowadays) I would approach it in a similar vein to my “Cavalry vs. Asterisk” series from almost a decade ago:…

Hannibal is the first person who's made Nigel have a 'gay panic' and made him back track and realize he likes men as well as women, Hannibal is the first man Nigel has EVER been attracted to besides once when he was a boy reading a magazine about cars and seeing someone, Hannibal is Nigel's psychiatrist, they have a semi rocky relationship (From Nigel's side) because Nigel tends to use a 'push and pull tactic' from his bpd, constantly withdrawing because he is scared of opening up, often missing sessions because he can't stomach seeing Hannibal, then popping back up - however he has gotten better at this and does this less frequently; Nigel sometimes will drive to Hannibal's house, park outside and watch the door because he is worried, other times he shows up wounded with cuts or bruises on him, one time even a broken bone from getting into a fight, other times it's for dinner or a meal when he skips them, as he HEAVILY likes Hannibal's cooking and will frequently ask for seconds or to take home some; Nigel obeys Hannibal's rules in his house and office and wont smoke near the buildings or inside, and will get into altercations with people if they don't listen to said rules.

Nigel think's Adam is weird - and quirky, but knows Adam has autism and has tried to subtly ask Adam questions about said autism, example : 'Whats the best thing to do when someone with Autism is overstimulated' so he can learn how to help Adam, he does care about him, and tries to research Autism in his spare time, Nigel recently has a rocky relationship with Adam, he knew Adam before Adam and Duncan got together, but is now stressed about saying the wrong thing, or Adam taking something he said the wrong way and telling Duncan. Nigel would rather explode and combust then have Duncan mad at him like that, he tries to engage in conversation with Adam but feels awkward a lot of the time as he doesn't think they have much in common aside from Duncan, Nigel makes a note of anything Adam says related to Autism or his interests, and puts it into his notes app - That way he is making a list of movies, books, or etc for them to watch and get into - to at LEAST have something to talk about.
»»————————————⍟————————————«« @the-black-kaiser | Relationship : Close Best friends | CANON Duncan knows A LOT about Nigel, his line of work, Gabi, he knows Nigel was in a coma after the aftermath of his S*icide, Nigel remembers vividly and can recall Duncan coming to his room and talking to him regularly, they have a song they use to play - and Nigel remembers Duncan playing it in the hotel room - Tracy Chapman Fast Car. When Duncan would go to Nigel's hospital room when Nigel was in a coma; He would read to him or just chatter about his day, and Duncan thinks Nigel doesn't remember, but Nigel remembers the entire chats, and when he is stressed repeats what Duncan said - in his head to remind himself it's okay, and this isn't' forever, and that he can't give up. Nigel has known Duncan for 5 years, since he was 30, around the same time Gabi left Nigel (Completely). Nigel often goes to Duncan for advice since Duncan is older than him by 14 years, but will also be a shoulder to lean on for Duncan, Nigel often asks Duncan if things are normal, everyday things, sometimes about household equipment making a noise Nigel couldn't recognize - or if certain emotions were normal.

It's Crustacean Week at the BPCL, and we have another Crab Monster for you!
Roger Corman is a prolific director and producer known for his independent science fiction and horror films, among others. One of his earliest films was Attack of the Crab Monsters in 1957, which features a group of scientists who travel to an island in the Pacific to investigate why the previous scientists went missing. Turns out, they were killed by giant, telepathic crab monsters mutated by nuclear radiation. This two-page spread is from Roger Corman: King of the B Movie : Crab Monsters, Teenage Cavemen, and Candy Stripe Nurses (2013) by Chris Nashawaty and features a behind-the-scenes look at the film's production.
The Browne Popular Culture Library, founded in 1969, is the most comprehensive archive of its kind in the United States.  Our focus and mission is to acquire and preserve research materials on American Popular Culture (post 1876) for curricular and research use. Transcription below the cut
Attack of the Crab Monsters (1957)
In 1957, Roger Corman directed nine movies. Shot on the cheap and usually cranked out in ten caffeinated days, Corman's output during that Eisenhower-era annus mirabilis included such drive-in diversions as Rock All Night, The Undead, and The Saga of the Viking Woman and Their Voyage to the Waters of the Great Sea Serpent. All of these films (well, most of them at least) have their merits. But there's one that stands out for its willingness to grapple with weightier questions than the fates of bobbysoxers and bargain-basement bogeymen -- the luridly titled Attack of the Crab Monsters. Distributed by Poverty Row studio Allied Artists, Crab Monsters was released on February 10, 1957, as part of a Corman sci-fi double bill alongside Not of This Earth. Taken together, these two cautionary tales form the backbone of Corman's early obsession with the apocalyptic power of the A-bomb and the hubris of well-meaning scientists who, a short decade earlier, had unleashed a new form of wrath on the world in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Written by Charles B. Griffith, who would go on to pen several other Corman classics line 1960's The Little Shop of Horrors and 1975's Death Race 2000, the $70,000 Crab Monsters kicks off with a crew of scientists arriving by seaplane on an unnamed deserted island in the South Pacific. They're there to find out what happened to a previous research team that went missing. Could it have something to do with the fact that the island is smack sab in the middle of a nuclear testing zone? Before they have a chance to find out, things go disastrously wrong: One of the seamen bringing them ashore by raft falls overboard, only to resurface missing his head. Then, as the seaplane lifts off to return to the mainland, it explodes in midair. The table is set.
The team of stranded brainiacs include Dale Drewer (Richard Garland in an ascot), Martha Hunter (Pamela Duncan wearing more makeup and tighter sweaters than one might expect in the jungle), and Hank Chapman (a pre-Gilligan's Island Russell Johnson). Soon, they discover a journal filled with ominous entries of distress and hear the mysterious disembodied voices of the dead summoning them to the island's caves, where they finally come face-to-face with...huge, radioactive, papier-mache crustaceans with claws operated by piano wire able to absorb the thoughts of any human brain they nosh on! At one point, a crab monster telepathically warns: "So, you have wounded me! I must grow a new claw, well and good! For I can do it in a day! But will you grow new legs when I have taken yours from you?"
As the victims of this atomic retribution start to pile up, Corman's chilling allegory of nuclear folly becomes a briskly paced meditation on our most destructive impulses. We've played God and now must pay for our sins. In more ways than one, Attack of the Crab Monsters is a B movie with a bite.

In 1818, high-spirited young Fanny Brawne finds herself increasingly intrigued by the handsome but aloof poet John Keats, who lives next door to her family friends the Dilkes. After reading a book of his poetry, she finds herself even more drawn to the taciturn Keats. Although he agrees to teach her about poetry, Keats cannot act on his reciprocated feelings for Fanny, since as a struggling poet he has no money to support a wife. Credits: TheMovieDb. You will enjoy it if you like the genre. If not … well, probably it would be a slow and dull romantic drama for you. tmdb28039023: Bright Star is the rare biopic of an artist that actually provides some insight into its subject’s craft. Usually, a film about a writer, including such recent examples as To Olivia (Roald Dahl) and The Laureate (Robert Graves), will approach the creative process as 99-percent inspiration and 1-percent actual work – and sometimes not even that. Writing is taken as matter of course; poems come out straight out of the author’s mouth, fully formed like Athena emerging from Zeus’s forehead. Bright Star doesn’t dismiss the notion of divine inspiration, but it does not tacitly take it for granted either; on the contrary, it acknowledges and articulates it (“If poetry does not come as naturally as leaves to a tree, then it had better not come at all”). Moreover, even though it declares “Poetic craft is a carcass, a sham,” it does so perhaps out of modesty (after all, “A poet is not at all poetical. He is the most un-poetical thing in existence. He has no identity”), before diving right into the crux of the craft itself (“A poem needs understanding through the senses. The point of diving in a lake is not immediately to swim to the shore but to be in the lake, to luxuriate in the sensation of water. You do not work the lake out. It is an experience beyond thought. Poetry soothes and emboldens the soul to accept mystery”). This is all great stuff, and writer/director Jane Campion displays a sincere love for poetry with which she infuses her characters (who not only commit their favorite poems to memory, but can even recite verbatim from literary reviews). The problem is...

ROADKILL - The Shoot:
Weeks of pre-production were finally out the way, it was shoot time. Beforehand thought, some last-minute fires to put out! Our original make-up artist dropped out a couple days before, which started the mad dash rush race to try to get a replacement. Luckily, India got back to us very quickly and agreed to join the set. Myself and Alfie had a brief meeting with them, and we had the last of out crew confirmed.
Ahead of us - three shoot days, intimidating but exciting! We started, of course, on Friday....
A natrual side effect of making films is, of course - dealing with issues that arise. So, despite the many, many hours of preparation that had gone into our first shoot day, I was very aware that something Could go wrong.
Everything went wrong.
That's dramatic. We faced, a lot, of challenges in the very early of the shoot, we turned up to a lovely, sunny day. The area was lovely and the pathways seemed clear. Things seemed to be going perfectly. Then, the children arrived. Despite my checking of some nearby, local facebook pages, turned out that a local school had planned a field trip out that day, right on the spot we were going to film. This, was issue number one. Luckily, myself, Gus, and Alfie had recced the location the day before, so we had some ideas for backups. We started to move, and the sky started to rain.
Again, I had done some due diligence, as recently as that morning the weather was a 40% chance of a drizzle. This rain, was not a drizzle. It started POURING with rain, we rushed to cover the equipment up with our tarp and hand out the many umbrellas to cover folks from the torrential downpour. Suddenly, despite what had felt like weeks of really meticulous planning, all of the crew (and cast!) were sitting outside, shivering in the rain. Honestly, I was pretty disheartened. On the first day, our AD was one Becca Chapman, who I have to give massive, massive props to. Alongside Alfie they both convinced me to not call the shoot off. With the rain and the cold I was worried for the cast and the crew, and I didn't see it letting up. They convinced me to leave it for an extra twenty or so minutes. Which, with the break of the clouds, was a fantastic decision. As if from the heavens themselves, a crack of sunlight came down. Now, we could shoot.
The rest of the shoot was characterised by shooting a couple shots, it starting to rain again, waiting, sky clearing, shooting more. Well not ideal conditions, I can genuinely say the whole crew was absolutely DELIGHTFUL to work with. I'm getting slightly ahead of myself here, but working over the three days with them was a genuine pleasure in every regard. Eventually, working past the storm, we managed to get what we needed - and moved on to the evening shoot.
Which, was a lot smoother! Not having to deal with what felt like targeted acts of god allowed the evening shoot to be a real joy. We'd test shot in Alfie's flat before which really let us figure out any potential issues ahead of time. Duncan blacked out the bathroom, him and Gus lit it, and we got to filming. The real major challenge of this shoot was the kill scene. Hayley had built an incredible fake shovel out of foam, but with only one set of costume, we needed to NAIL the kill shot. We actually tested it on myself! Which I'll upload as a separate post to not distract too much from this one. Anyway, after a few test, and with Saoirse standing nearby, we cleared the room. In the next room over we all stood, watching the monitor, INCREDIBLY nervous. Actors walked in, Jorgie grabbed the shovel, and slammed Lewis over the head. From the footage I've seen so far, and the reaction to the monitor video, it looked fantastic! Potentially in my mind the hardest shot nailed, the crew and cast went home. Myself, Gus, and Alfie filmed a couple extra shots very late in the day of Jorgie's fall. I actually stood in for her, which means you'll see me in the final film! After a very long day, we had a break for planning, and then Sunday.
Sunday and Monday's shoots were extremely similar. Rebecca, the woman from the Facebook post had offered us her house to film in. Producer wise, there were a couple major issues. Mainly, the dogs. Rebecca and her family owned two small, well-trained, and polite dogs. Both of which ended up being a non-issue come filming time! Rebecca and her husband agreed to hang around on set to look after the dogs, which ended up as a massive help. Their son, Conel, also agreed to be on set as a 2nd AC. While he hadn’t had too much experience filming before, Gus and Joseph did a great job talking him through clapperboarding. Beyond that, it was smooth sailing! We ran over one shoot but besides that no real issue. At least from a producer view, everyone worked really smoothly and effectively. Moving of equipment was handled by myself and some other members of the crew, we used Duncan (our gaffers) car which was a massive win to have on set. The footage looks amazing, and I’m excited to see the final product.

Getting the Team on Board
Tumblr media
I was super excited to start getting other people on board for this project! I wanted to start reflecting on people I’ve previously worked with in order to build closer connections, while looking to work with new classmates.
Taking on Cara’s script, Ivan and I knew we would want Cara to be production designer (and they expressed a lot of interest), so we moved forward as a three.
Max approached Cara last week so we had a meeting and then went forward as a four. We also gauged interest from Gaby and Jack for sound. We were struggling for a while in regards to an editor, however I spoke to Davide who seemed interested in taking on the project, however he was very busy with balancing a bunch of other projects. To overcome this, we discussed the post-production workflow very early on to ensure he could manage this and if he couldn't, we could easily adjust.
Slowly, but surely we have gotten all of our team on board. We were struggling for a while to find a script supervisor for our second days of filming, but after a little notice was put out to the masters students, we got someone who was interested!

🎰!!
Send 🎰 for me to put our muses into a random list generator then post the first five as potential ships!
jude yang x chelsea riggin i don't know if this could work, but instead with a puppy perhaps. chelsea trying her best to remain calm and composed. to keep her feelings apart from whatever arrangement they've agreed to. but if he's nice to her puppy/insert animal here, then she's going to be slowly but surely thawing out and melting the ice she has purposefully wrapped around her heart. might be quite a cute concept?
sabrina chapman x peter cooper this could work wonderfully for peter. when he loves, he loves deeply and darkly and completely. they could be an on and off again situation, sabrina's aware that peter is absolutely no good for her, but he's kind of quite fun. it can be quite a confidence boost to have a man ready and willing to kill/fight/maim for you at a moment's notice, right? also this. maybe this. this if ever plausible.
valeria reyes x huxley duncan vibing something like this. maybe they grew up in similar or the same neighbourhood (childhood best friends/trust fund kids). huxley eventually pulled back from the life due to the expectations his parents were putting on him (without ever getting to know who he truly was). they could've stayed close and in touch, he has little dreams, she's capable of anything and he's not willing to ever be an obstacle or burden. a mix of this is definitely possible too. or this this this this this THIS.
warren knowles x victoria newton i love this. warren could, somehow be friends with rupert (vik's older brother). got that semi-forbidden edge to it. or this ! what's better than fake dating? fake marriage. we can work out why they'd need to be doing that, but i'm always here for this.
harper fisher x xeno starr this could be (would be) painful. i don't know how they meet quite yet, but if harper can read their mind - realising that they are very far away from home and then somehow they get close. or maybe someone pays her to investigate into him and then she finds out the truth about him. silly, little alien falls for mutant. ruins their own mission. needs to go home but doesn't really want to. admits they'd fallen, i'm ready for the heartbreak already.

ENOLA HOLMES 2
Enola Holmes, a 2022 mystery film, stars Millie Bobby Brown as the titular character, the teenage sister of the renowned detective Sherlock Holmes. Directed by Harry Bradbeer and scripted by Jack Thorne, the movie draws inspiration from Nancy Springer's book series, "The Enola Holmes Mysteries." The storyline intertwines with the 1888 matchstick girls' strike, shedding light on real-life events.
Apart from Brown, the film features Henry Cavill, Louis Partridge, Susie Wokoma, Adeel Akhtar, Helena Bonham Carter reprising their supporting roles, with additions like David Thewlis and Sharon Duncan Brewster joining the cast. Filming spanned from Autumn 2021 to January 2022, culminating in the release of "Enola Holmes 2" on November 4, 2022, exclusively on Netflix. Critically acclaimed, the film soared to the top of Netflix's viewership charts in 93 countries.
Enola, aspiring to establish her own detective agency, grapples with the challenge of building a client base akin to her famous brother Sherlock. The narrative kicks off when Bessie, a factory worker, seeks Enola's aid in locating her missing sister, Sarah Chapman. This quest leads Enola to the match factory, where a lethal Typhus outbreak unfolds, bringing her face-to-face with Mae, who once worked alongside the missing sisters.

So,
Life achievement unlocked!
I’m crazy grateful to Chadd Cawson of the Cowichan Valley Citizen for this rave review of “All’s Well That Ends Well” in today’s paper. After years of working for Black Press as an entertainment reporter, it’s surreal to find myself on the other side of things.
Chadd attended our preview performance in downtown Duncan on Monday, where our troupe had to compete with idling buses, car alarms and noisy passersby for our audience’s attention — just like Shakespeare intended. It was a unique challenge, but I think our cast pulled it off beautifully.
The review singles out our heroine Kim Chapman, calling her “intoxicating” to watch, while also giving shoutouts to my accomplice Parolles (played by Dan Leckey), my love interest Diana (played by Jade Edgar), and our clown, played by Shawnigan Players president Bill Levity. This is going in the scrapbook. The Literary Goon
