MtG Token: Angel #3
Magic: the Gathering has been around for 30 years. There are 27,000 unique cards and growing. And a lot of them create tokens. While the official tokens are great, I have a need to celebrate the artwork of our (mtg) ancestors. Let's celebrate older artwork with a new coat of paint.
Token: 4/4 white Angel creature tokens with flying
This is the generic Angel token we are all know
Angel #3 is the Luminous Angel from Duel Decks: Divine vs. Demonic by Jason Chan
The literal and graphical information presented on this site about Magic: The Gathering, including card images and mana symbols, is copyright Wizards of the Coast, LLC.

Cornwall's Random Card of the Day #905: Dark Banishing
Dark Banishing is a common from Ice Age, seen here in its Duel Decks: Divine vs Demonic printing.
This was once what murder is now: the stripped-down, no bells or whistles black removal spell for 3 mana. As I have mentioned before, due to Terror's terrible influence on removal spells, black removal spells shied away from killing black creatures in the past, and for some reason there was just a shitton of regeneration hosing. Murder does away with both, making a simple, clean card with no drawbacks besides the cost.
Also, I dunno who says that line in Romeo and Juliet, but it'd better of been one of them, otherwise, what a godawfully stupid thing to say, made only slightly more resonable it was coming from a landed noble with absolutely no real skills.

Where the Side-Block Ends
I admit that's a terrible pun (is it a pun?), but I'm anxious to get back to my sealed deck game on Arena. Only so much free time, you know.
Anyway, I promised you a description of Dual Duel Decks and if I don't make and follow through with my promises, I'll never get around to blogging anything, so here goes.
As I developed the ideas for a comic-book inspired world of crime and mystery and super-abilities, my research led me towards many cards that felt like they belonged in my set -- eh, except for one or more relatively minor issues. Every time I found/remembered a card I liked, I ended up realizing that it wouldn't work. Eventually, I decided that my set would have zero reprints (for an important reason I'm not going to go into now -- let's just say that creative control needs to be absolute).
But here, I've identified all these great cards that speak to the themes and situations in Heroes & Villains. What could I do with them? Well, I thought, what happens to all the older cards that would fit in a deck that is based on the current set? They get played in legacy formats... and they get reprinted in Commander product!
So, I guess I'm making Commander decks now, too. But how would I split up the archetypes/themes/factions/whatever into satisfingly cohesive products? Well, this would give me the perfect opportunity to build a Batman Leatherwing-specific deck and by extension, decks for the other four mythic Vigilantes -- but wait! What about the villains? Surely, there will be players who would want to play as the bad guys. Should I try to roll the bad guys into the good guys' decks? Naw. That would split focus AND put a strain on the color pie since the heroes and villains are different colors (and embody divergent strategies).
My solution? Ten decks per set! I know. Madness, right? But these won't be ten Commander decks. These will be ten Duel Decks!!
For those who don't know since they don't make them any more (for shame!), Duel Decks was a Magic product that contained two sixty-card decks designed to be played against one another. Usually, they represented opposing concepts or planeswalkers -- Divine vs Demonic, Jace vs Vraska, etc.
So, what would make my Duel Decks different? And weren't we trying to create Commander decks? Well, my Duel Decks would be transformable! The Duel Deck series likely got phased out in favor of putting out Commander decks instead as the premier preconstructed product. What my Dual Duel Decks would do is bridge the gap/marry the concepts together.
Each Dual Duel Deck package would come with a total of 121 cards consisting of two sixty-card decks and a Commander card that is not part of either deck. The package would also come with suggestions/instructions on which twenty cards to remove from the sixty-card decks to create the 100-card Commander deck.
But wait! There's more! There would be five DDDs, meaning if you made all five Commander decks out of them, you'd have a hundred cards left over. What do you think would happen if you were to combine those cards? You'd have yourself a sixth Commander deck, you say? No foolin'!?! Yes, friends. I AM that crazy.
Pulling this off hasn't been easy. The philosophies behind building these DDDs has shifted often as has most of my design, but I've found a workflow system that seems to be working for me.
And that's Dual Duel Decks!
Next Time: Let's explore the Districts of The Big City (That wasn't intended to be a parody of Streets of New Capenna, I swear.)
Bonus: Also, as I read through New Capenna's cards, I see little things I came up with on actual cards. It's eerie and a little annoying, as these established cards will make my designs appear derivative. Like spells that can be played from the graveyard if you sacrifice a creature, or the use of Citizens and Advisors as important creature types when they weren't before. This has been happening ever since I started this project four years ago. I'm not mad. Just disappointed.

The first results of Round 6 have now come in, and Tamiyo, Field Researcher lost, meaning that Bant joins Jund and Jeskai as a completely extinct colour combination.
The largest win from the first couple of batches was Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker over Lovisa Coldeyes, with 88.00%. The tightest race was Sundial of the Infinite’s defeat of Triskaidekaphobia, at 51.24%.
This time next week we will be back with ALL the remaining Round 6 batches!
