After a short break during her time as a Ferrari reserve driver, loud-mouthed driver Dhanishka Dubey resurfaces when she moves up to f1 under Ferrari. She’s back to terrorize her ex, none other than Logan Sargeant when she conquers him once again this season, just like before, just like always.
But when faced with your first love, and your only love, it's hard to let those feelings past. Especially when a relationship was prematurely ended, especially when she's everything you aren't, especially when you never got over his love.

28 FEBRUARY, BAHRAIN
"It's a pre-season dinner, how badly can it go?" Anya asks me, eyes darting down to my sari and then back to my face as she works on pinning the pleats to my shoulder as I adjust them and secure their positioning.
When she’s done, she squeezes my arms as she stands next to me in her much more casual western clothing. We look like opposites, me in a bright red sari and her wearing a black dior sweatshirt and jeans. She grins, “you look stunning by the way."
"Thanks, Anya," I give her a little side hug, passing her to continue fixing myself up in the mirror ahead of us. I huff as I adjust my earrings and bracelets, tacking the former down with eyelash glue, "I just worry if like… Logan says something.”
“You’re gonna let a man, a white man no less, make you worry?” Anya paused, hands on her hips as she looks at me in the mirror of our parents home, the little cookie cutter complex we lived in the corner plot in.
“Plus what would he even say?” Anya crosses her arms, “that whole thing wasn’t even your fault.”
“I know but… I was still Trident’s golden child when it happened. People are always gonna assume I had something to do with it. I’m lucky the FIA didn’t take anything away from me, I’m honestly lucky the team admitted I had nothing to do with it.”
“Does Logan blame you?” Anya leans on the doorframe to my bathroom, “because that’s the only opinion that matters.”
“He might. I… it made him break up with me. So, I don’t know.” I sigh, “but it’s just one guy, I still have Oscar, Charles, Carlos and Daniel.”
“I still don’t get Danny.” Anya muses, and when she sees my confusion she waves a hand, “No, not him, as your nickname.”
“Oh, a reporter called me ‘Dan-ish-ka’ and not ‘Dun-ish-kah’ and someone on Twitter thought she called me Danny and it just—rolled from there.” I laughed softly, turning back to Anya as I motioned for her to move out of the door so I could grab my bag and such. She did with ease, moving to grab the keys to my (but hers when I wasn’t home) Porsche Taycan.
“And, that’s when there were rumors I was joining Red Bulls Junior team as well, instead of Ferrari’s, so it all just kept stacking.” I grabbed my purse off my bed and dropped in a small perfume container, my lipstick, and a few other essentials, “people called me ‘Danny 2’ and it got to Daniel Ricciardo himself, and that’s how we started talking.”
“Oh that’s actually so cute.” Anya grins, following me out to the kitchen where my mother is forcing my father to help her make biryani while she’s fixing up the bar for a party they’re having tonight.
“Alright, [Momma, Dad, how do I look?] Do we like the red one better than the silver one? Anya helped me pick this one out, [she thinks it’s some sort of new style with the solid color.]” I call in the usual mix of Marathi, Arabic, and English out household uses. As I pause in the kitchen, Anya’s fixing my sari out of her own nervous habit. My mother gasps, pushing past my father to take me into her arms with a bright smile.
“Oh! Dhanishka, wow! [You look amazing! I love this one,] is it new?” My mother looks me over and I nod, seeing the hint of my father’s smile from the kitchen that makes my heart sing. He rarely showed his support on his face, but since everything with Trident and the subsequent fall out and mental break, he tried his hardest to show his love for me and Anya. He did a good job.
“Yeah, [it’s from Manish?]” I say, turning back to Anya who nods.
“All of my girls, [so stunning.]” My father grinned, wiping his hands off before giving me a loose hug as to not get anything from his hands on my outfit, “Do you need anything to eat before you go?”
“No, [dad], I’ll be fine. Thank you.” I squeeze his shoulder, and my mother makes me stand back so she can take about a dozen photos of everyone with me. Once the photos are done, we wave goodbye, and it’s off to the restaurant they’ve picked.
I would’ve settled with anything in Manama, honestly but eating at somewhere down by the Four Seasons is perfect.
Anya drops me off to the front of the restaurant and I slip in, greeting the staff and letting them point me in the right direction. My hands are slick as I pull out my phone from my bag, Charles letting me know he was coming in right behind me, and I turn to see him, Max, and Carlos.
“Dhanishka!” Charles grins, leaning down to give me a quick hug, “Oh, this is the one you sent me? It looks nice.”
“Thank you. Figured I’d come in looking like I at least belong in the country I’m in, since I don’t quite fit in with the people yet.” I shrug, fiddling with the red fabric in my hands, feeling the beading against my knuckles. Catching my worry, Charles turns to the two who awkwardly greet me with half hugs and congratulations on driving along with them this season.
Once everyone’s stepped back, Charles nodded to them, “You guys go ahead, we’ll see you in there.”
Carlos and Max move behind a curtain and into a doorway, but Charles grabs my arm gently and pulls me back into a hallway leading to the bathroom, hands finding mine and squeezing them.
“Stop overthinking this, it’s a room with a bunch of stupid men. Basically the same thing you’ve been dealing with for like—over ten years.” Charles looks at me and I huff, pulling my hands back from him and fixing my hair for the third time since we’d gotten to the hallway.
“I just—what if someone brings up the crash? Or me racing with Trident?” I stammer and he shakes his head.
“I’ll deal with it. If anything happens, I’ll help you. I’m in your corner.” Charles takes my hands once more, squeezes them, and then lets go of them, “now, are you ready?”
“As long as you’re next to me, yeah… yeah I can do this.” I nod and he grins, moving ahead to open the door for me. I follow him, taking a slow breath before nodding and moving into the little reserved dining room. At the sight of me, a few conversations halt and I scan the room before noticing Oscar moving away from Logan to come greet me.
Logan’s… the same. Blonde hair, blue eyes, pale skin, crinkles in the corners of his eyes and a permanent smile line as his lips fall from a grin when he spots me. I take him in, his crisp blue suit with the jacket discarded—sleeves rolled up to his elbows, tie a bit loose and fuck, he looks confident and calm. He’s nothing like me in this moment, almost like we’ve swapped.
“Dhanishka.” Oscar steps in my eyeline, breaking the stare down between me and the American boy, and I smile at the Australian as he gently takes me in a hug.
“Good to see you, Oscar.” I close my eyes in the hug, and he steps back.
“Nice—fuck what’s the word—sa..” He holds up a hand when I go to tell him and then snaps, “Saree!”
“I’ve trained you well.” I laugh, complimenting his black suit, noting the decorative papaya colored inside of his jacket and little McLaren ‘81’ lapel. He says Lando has the matching ‘4’ and I make some joke that’s lost over Daniel chanting my name as he comes over to give me a tight hug.
“How’s my mini-me?” He asks, making sure the beading doesn’t hook on his suit as he steps back, I laugh and tell him I’m good, leaving out the part where my ex has been staring at me since I came in the door and I’m about half a second away from yelling at him to look elsewhere.
Luckily, Alex pulls Logan’s attention away— flashing me a small apologetic smile before bringing him over to the little minibar on the opposite side of the room.
“Do you drink?” Charles asks, hand on my elbow and I nod. My parents were lax with drinking and stuff as long as it wasn’t a holiday where I shouldn’t be. He grins and guides me to my seat, Oscar, Daniel and now Carlos tagging along. As I'm settling down to sit, Oscar on my left side with Lando on his left, Charles asking me what I’d like to drink. After a quick peruse of the menu, I settle on a margarita, and he whisks off to the bar to get it while Daniel sits across from me.
“You’re nervous about Logan, aren’t you?” Daniel leans across the table as he speaks, Carlos sitting next to him and taking a sip of a drink. Lando leans to ask Oscar something in a hushed tone besides me, and my eyes flicker to their whispers momentarily before settling back on Daniel.
“I just don’t want someone to bring up Trident, for either of our sakes, its a sore subject.” I huff, looking around the room, everyones clumped off in the groups I expect to see, a few stragglers between each group either drifting to the table or the bar.
"I'm sure if someone tries, it'll get shut down pretty quick." Oscar turns to me after filling Lando in. Charles sits on my other side, setting down my margarita and taking a sip of whatever drink he'd been coerced into drinking. I assume Max had something to do with it when I eye the gin and tonic in his hand.
"I know, I know. I just worry." I hum, bringing the margarita to my lips as a few more people settle. Logan is sitting a few seats down on the other side of the table, giving us both a clear view of the other. I know it's not intentional, but it makes my skin crawl.
Oscar has Lando switch seats with him, claiming he doesn't wanna hear whatever the two will shout over him, but I know it's so that he can help distract Logan. I remind myself tot hank him later.
I set down my margarita glass, standing up to formally greet Yuki as he comes to sit next to Daniel and I notice Logan's eyes firm on the glass. As I sit back down, I know why he's staring and my cheeks warm. Red lipstick stains the edge of the glass, something that I used to use to stain his lips back when we'd sneak kisses between Trident and HWA's paddocks and in hotel elevators.
And he might have had power over me because I was afraid of causing a fight at my first event with the F1 drivers, but being civil and lying down never got me anywhere in racing. So, when his eyes linger on my lips, I 'accidentally' make a show of pulling out my purse and setting it on my lap. My dark red nails clicking along the zipper as I pull it open and pull out a compact mirror and the same tube of red lipstick he'd bought be back in 2021. Logan bought it days before the crash, a Valentino refillable lipstick, more expensive than I deserved. He'd proudly given it to me, claiming his mom had the idea after my long term lipstick had finally run out. It was still shade 22R. The only shade I ever wore.
Even if Logan had bought the lipstick, I still liked it. It looked nice on my lips, complimented my skin, transferred just enough for my liking.
Across the table, Logan's eyes dilate in a sort of recognition as I swipe the tube across my lower lip. My dark eyes watching his light ones out of my peripheral as I watch myself in the my little red compact Valentino mirror. I'd bought it since it matched the tube of lipstick, and I know he recognizes that too. His bottom lip disappears under his teeth in a soft hiss. I know he knew exactly what lipstick it was. He'd bought be the first one, I just got it refilled after.
And if I purposefully fuck it up, using my finger to fix it just to rile him into silence as he looks away flustered, no one else comments on it. Except a cheeky grin from Daniel who muffles a laugh into his palm, pretending Carlos said something to him.
I have the upperhand at the moment, and it eases my panic. Charles looks over at me, sending me an odd look as a click my mirror shut a little louder than I probably should, but a just send him a tiny smile in response and he doesn't question it as I drop both items into my Coach purse and hang it on the back of my chair once more.
Once everyone's settled, it's Max who stands and thanks everyone for coming and thanks Charles for helping him organize the little dinner. Menus are passed around by two waitresses who speak in soft voices as they explain the specials to us in groups, and then we're off to pick our food and mingle. I settle on a 'keto bowl' type dish with salmon and a small appetizer of these little potato wedge things Daniel claims I have to split with him.
And I get a stronger drink because each time Logan even looks in my direction it makes a knot form in my stomach.
"Are you gonna ignore him all night?" Lando turns to murmur to me when we're getting our appetizers. It's been twenty minutes of odd tension and I can tell Lando's getting a little irritated by it.
"I've ignored him for three years. I can do it now." I say back, a little sharp, but when I see Lando's not asking out of irritation but rather worry, I soften and whisper, "It's fine. I..."
Trailing off, my eyes find Logan's accidentally, and it's like I can't look away. It's the second time we've made eye contact, and maybe its the margarita swirling in my stomach and pumping liquid courage through my veins, but I can't look away. It's like we're trapped for a moment, breaths caught in our throats. His voice fails in whatever story he's cheerily recounting to Oscar and Alex, and I see the former look towards where Logan's staring and he makes a bit of a worried expression.
I swallow, Pierre screeching in laughter pulling us from the moment, and I turn back to Lando as Logan rips his eyes away to look at Oscar.
"It's just... hard." I muse and Lando nods, he doesn't say anything about Logan after that as I turn back to Charles who gives me a tiny reassuring nod and then introduces me to the aforementioned Pierre who's come to stand behind us. I keep myself turned away from Logan for the rest of the meal, appetizers swallowed quickly between Daniel and I, Yuki and I sharing drinks and stories as we wait for dinner, I'm at least seven drinks in and happily going for an eighth.
My high tolerance doesn't fail me, but my bladder is close to doing so. With as much tipsy grace as I can muster, I slip out and down the hall to the bathroom, and when I'm done there I stop to freshen myself up in a mirror in the hall. I reapply my perfume, check my teeth, and wipe off a faint smudge of lipstick on my nose from when I had taken a rather large bite and smushed my lip up.
I hear the door click shut and glance over, throat going dry at the sight of Logan. I turn back to the mirror, digging in my purse for my lipstick once more, and he silently passes behind me without a word.
Somehow, that hurts more than anything.
But it's not like I'm making myself available to speak, so I finish tidying up my lipstick, and go back into the room. I grab more drinks for most of the table, thanking the bartender who comes around to help me bring all the drinks to the table.
Entrees arriving at the table passes me in a blur, I'm somehow shoved in a story with Yuki, Zhou, George, Esteban, and Max. I don't even know what they're really saying as everyone's laughing and speaking over one another, but I just enjoy being included.
I eat slow, laughing along with Daniel when he pops into whatever debate Lando, Carlos, and Charles, have pulled him into. And when the hyperactivity dies down as more of us get a bit sluggish from drinking, I eat a bit quicker to finish up my food so it helps my stomach have time to digest before I leave and helps my tipsiness lessen.
I check my phone, it's about ten thirty when we finish eating, and then it's kinda just a free for all hang out for a while. A few people start trickling out after it hits midnight. I know some of them have training tomorrow, as do I, but I kinda can already tell I'm not getting much rest tonight. Alex leaves in a group of about half the table, and I'm helping Charles and Max clean up as the rest slowly trickle out. Eventually I'm escorting Charles to a car as he waves goodbye to Max with a drunken laugh on his lips. Once the driver is on his way, I pluck my phone out of my purse and look through my messages. Anya's on her way, running late due to having to park her car far away since we had a lot of guests at the house.
"You shouldn't... ah," A familiar voice chimes and I look over to where Logan stands. He's far enough away to not be intruding, but close enough to shift towards me a bit as some random men pass behind us on the nearly vacant sidewalk, "You shouldn't stand out here alone, Dhanishka."
Him saying my name makes my heart leap into my throat and I pocket my phone, speaking gently, "Thanks for the concern, but I assure you I'll be fine. Anya's just down the road."
"Still, you know my mom would beat my ass if she knew I left a girl out here alone." He pauses, "Especially if it's you." And his voice trails off. For years his mother had helped raise me, my parents still spoke with her frequently—hell, she and her husband were at my house right now. And I know he’s right. But I can’t say anything past the bump in my throat. My silence makes him shift as he adjusts his grip on his jacket over his shoulder. It was an exceptionally chilly night for some odd reason. A cool breeze ripples across my shoulders. Bahrain was a desert, the lowest we got was 10 degrees celsius, nothing like the zero it was settled at now.
"You can stay." I say after a while and he visibly relaxes, still watching me out of the corner of his eye. The 'few minutes away' Anya texted me feels like a joke as the time stretches on and on and the cold bite of the air gets worse. I try using my saree as a bit of a scarf, but the red fabric is thin and does little to help.
After ten minutes, my teeth start to chatter as the street empties of most people and cars. It's a short hour or so lull when not much will happen at all before people start morning commutes. Beside me, I hear Logan huff. He moves closer and I look over to see him settle his jacket across my shoulders.
"Don't need you getting sick before the first race." He says softly, now far closer than he has been all day. I know I thank him, because I feel the words leave my throat, but I can't hear it over the blood rushing past my ears.
He'd broken it off with me, I never loved another. I still wore the same shade of lipstick and the same perfume, the same songs played on my Spotify whenever I had a chance. Taylor Swift blasting in my ears on long drives, Eminem for parties, Beyonce or Shakira for hyping myself up. I followed the Miami Dolphins loosely because I knew he loved them, and after all this time I found my heart still could be held in his hands. No matter how hard I tried to ignore the feeling of blush spreading across my chilly skin.
After a moment of us just staring at each other, the dim light being broken by passing cars, he whispers, "You can't ignore me forever. As much as you want to, the media is gonna stick us together the first opportunity they have. And... I know I remind you of Trident. I know I remind you of that 'crashgate' shit and maybe I should since you took my victory away."
"You and I both know I had nothing to do with that accident." I turn back to Logan, now fully facing him. I feel suffocated, the scent of his cologne on his jacket covering my perfume, like some sort of silencer washed over my voice. He still wears the same brand from back in the day, from when I stole his jackets and hoodies rather than being gifted them. It felt like a sick metaphor. Somehow we were the same after all this time, yet we would never get to be that again.
"Oh, come on." Logan laughs through a taught frown, threading a hand through his hair, "Now, I can believe that your team principal planned for your teammate to crash into me if I was ahead of you without you knowing. But when they told you to let your teammate overtake you for no reason, you didn't stop to ask why?"
"I did ask why, did you read the FIA reports?" I say back, wind whipping across the street and blowing my hair in front of my eyes like a blindfold.
"Or how about when the accident happened? Why did you keep racing?" He asks, sharp, and I can tell it's something thats been brewing. Years of silence on my end after he'd snapped with tears in his big blue eyes, telling me he 'couldn't do this anymore' and I let him walk away.
But I held my ground, as I always had to do. On my own once again, ostracized, I step closer and rip my hair away from my face in frustration that it wont stay back, "I was told I had to, Logan! I begged them to let me know what had happened to you and they refused! I didn't care about Viscaal! I cared about you!"
"Then why did you let me leave?!" He shouts and the whole street goes silent. We breathe heavy, almost chest to chest, eyes boring into each other with unshed tears. It's a gaping hole in my chest he claws at, trying to scrounge up answers I've buried six feet in the ground. I hear the sound of a car pulling up, I know its Anya without looking.
"What was I supposed to do?" I whisper, ripping his jacket off my shoulders and shoving it into his chest, "Beg you to come back? Apologize a hundred times? You didn't want to see me, you didn't care. I let you go because you wanted to go, and I'm fine with that."
He stares at me and I sniffle, cursing when I realize I've let the tears fall, and I continue, "I never would've let them do that to you if I knew. If I knew, I would've gone right to the FIA, you know that. Don't drag my name like the media already has, please. I can't take it from you of all people, Logan."
We stand in silence for a few more moments and then I turn around, passing in front of Anya's car to get in. I pause with my hand on the handle, watching Logan watch me with this expression in his eyes I can't read. Maybe I was wrong, maybe Logan and I weren't the same anymore, but I don't stop to think too hard as I rip open the door and throw myself down. When I slam the door, Anya puts the car in drive without pausing to ask anything, and pulls away as I desperately try to not watch Logan in the rearview.
"Can we just... drive?" I ask after a long silence and my sister nods, cracking the windows to let the cold air circle around us. I take a slow breath and tilt my head up, swallowing down my emotions until I feel a cool numbness roll across my skin. A familiar numbness.
It's going to be bad again, I can feel it in my chest.

Web Series Review: Panchayat Season 3
Star Cast: Jitendra Kumar, Raghubir Yadav, Neena Gupta, Chandan Roy, Faisal Malik, Sanvikaa, Pankaj Jha
Tumblr media
Director: Deepak Kumar Mishra
Synopsis: PANCHAYAT SEASON 3 is the story of the feud between a villager and an egoistic MLA. After the events of the second season, a new 'Sachiv' (Vinod Suryavanshi) arrives in Phulera. Brij Bhushan Dubey (Raghubir Yadav), the Pradhan Pati, devises a plan. He keeps the Panchayat office locked on the day of the new Sachin's joining. Brij even doesn't pick up his call and so does Vikas (Chandan Roy). The new Sachiv complains to the MLA Chandrakishore Singh (Pankaj Jha), who in turn, complains to the DM (Kusum Shastri). The DM urgently calls Manju Devi (Neena Gupta), the Pradhan, to her office. Manju and Prahlad (Faisal Malik), the Up-Pradhan, make it clear that they want Abhishek Tripathi (Jitendra Kumar) back as the Sachiv. As luck would have it, the same day, the MLA is jailed for killing a dog. The DM cancels Abhishek's transfer and asks him to join Phulera Gram Panchayat. Brij, Manju, Vikas and Prahlad are overjoyed to have Abhishek back with them. But there are certain problems in front of the village. Prahlad is depressed over the death of his son, Rahul (Shiv Swaroop) and has turned an alcoholic as well. Meanwhile, the Gram Panchayat elections are around the corner and Bhushan (Durgesh Kumar) is determined to win at any cost. As part of his strategy, he decides to send an olive branch to the MLA. Soon, this leads to utter chaos and madness in Phulera. What happens next forms the rest of the show.
Panchayat Season 3 Story Review: Chandan Kumar's story is terrific and the writer manages to neatly take the story forward. Chandan Kumar's screenplay is very effective and is peppered with lots of entertaining and dramatic moments. But the surprise this season is that the show scores big time with the emotional scenes as well. Chandan Kumar's dialogues are sharp and hilarious as required. Some dialogues are bound to become memes, just like it happened in the previous season. A few one-liners, however, do give a feeling that they were written keeping in mind that it'll become meme-worthy.
Deepak Kumar Mishra's direction is praiseworthy. Like the previous seasons, the execution is neat and uncomplicated. Often, several cult shows tend to disappoint in the subsequent seasons. But PANCHAYAT has proved to be an exception. The writer and director have taken care that nothing is added for the heck of it and at the same time, the new developments carry the essence of the show. This time, the stakes are higher and hence, even the tension levels go high in some scenes.
On the flipside, some developments are silly. For instance, the idea of the Pradhan to not pick up the call of the new Sachiv is childish. But since it leads to LOL-worthy moments, one won't mind. The same happens with the scene where a family is given a house under the PM Awas Yojana scheme though they don't qualify for it. The reason behind it is far-fetched. However, it makes for a nice watch. Secondly, the romance between Abhishek and Rinki (Sanvikaa) doesn't progress much and it's a bit of a downer.
Tumblr media
PANCHAYAT SEASON 3 begins on a very entertaining note and the first episode sets the mood. The sequence between Prahlad and Damyanti Devi (Abha Sharma) is lovely and the most emotional sequence of the show. The real fun begins once the MLA arrives in the village for a truce meeting. The scene starts ordinarily but ends on a high and is sure to bring the house down. From here, the show is highly entertaining. This time, there's also action and the final episode is very nail-biting. The last 10 minutes give a 'Katappa ne Baahubali ko kyun maara' or 'Lonavala mein kya hua' (THE FAMILY MAN) vibe and enhance the excitement for Season 4.
Panchayat Season 3 Performances: Jitendra Kumar doesn’t have much to do initially but later on, dominates the show. He’s totally gotten into the skin of the character by now and is very impressive. Raghubir Yadav, too, puts his best foot forward. Neena Gupta is first-rate and this time, her character gets a deeper understanding of politics. This adds a lot to her role and also her performance. Chandan Roy lends able support, as always. Faisal Malik has a difficult role this time but comes out with flying colours. Sanvikaa is a fine talent and her mere presence instantly lifts the impact of a scene. Pankaj Jha is outstanding as the antagonist. The same goes for Durgesh Kumar. Sunita Rajwar (Kranti Devi; Bhushan's wife) leaves a huge mark. Ashok Pathak (Binod) this time has a longer role, considering the popularity of his memes perhaps, and does very well. Asif Khan (Ganesh) is highly entertaining while Aanchal Tiwari (Raveena) is sweet. Abha Sharma is adorable and Vishal Yadav (Jagmohan) makes his presence felt. Prateek Pachauri (Babloo) and Ebaabdullah Khan (Dabloo) are funny. The others who do well are Tript Sahu (Khushu; Vikas's wife), Bulloo Kumar (Madhav; who sides with Bhushan), Gaurav Singh (Chottan Singh; MLA's PA), Amit Kumar Maurya (Bam Bahadur), Kusum Shastri, Vinod Suryavanshi, Shrikant Verma (Parmeshwar), Vishwanath Chatterjee (Sanjay Yadav; cop) and Diwakar Dhayani (BDO). Kirandeep Kaur (Chitra; MLA's daughter) doesn’t have much to do and hopefully, will have a stronger part in Season 4. Lastly, Swananad Kirkire (MP) has a promising cameo.
Panchayat Season 3 music and other technical aspects: Anurag Saikia's music enhances the impact. As for the songs, the Manoj Tiwari track is damn good. But watch out for 'Thame Dil Ko', sung by Abhijeet Bhattacharya. Amitabha Singh's cinematography is satisfactory. The bird's eye view shots of the village, especially, are memorable. Karishma Vyas' costumes and Naveen Lohara and Sayali Naikwadi Singh's production design are straight out of life. The action is realistic. Amit Kulkarni's editing is smooth.
Panchayat Season 3 Conclusion: On the whole, PANCHAYAT SEASON 3 fulfils all the humongous expectations and rests on bravura performances, some funny and dramatic sequences, nail-biting climax and meme-worthy dialogues. This time, the show also scores on the emotional front and also boasts of action scenes. Thanks to the insane popularity and word of mouth, the third season is bound to emerge as one of the most most-watched or maybe the most most-watched show for Amazon Prime Video this year. Recommended!

Chapter 61
Chapter 61
A manhole somewhere on the outskirts of Monolith popped open from the inside. It glided to the side an inch above the ground. From inside emerged Rufus, Karen, Jack, Nook and Corey. The five of them looked around.
Jack nodded to himself. "I know this neighborhood."
"You really had us guessing, Corey," said Rufus. Corey couldn't help but crack a sinister smile. Karen scoffed.
"You killed a hundred people, or so you say. Are you proud of yourself, Corey?," she intoned. Nook nodded.
Corey shrugged. "If you inflict enough losses, you win by default. You think these men will keep fighting?"
Jack perked up. "We should get out of the road. If we walk fast, we could get to my friend's house before anyone notices we're out in the open. It's possible, anyway."
Rufus chuckled. "And what? Get them killed, too? Anywhere we go, people are going to die. You saw the Most Wanted list. We're right up there with Aleister."
Karen surveyed the empty yards and windows in the neighborhood. "Jack's right, we can't stay in the open. You're sure they haven't killed this friend of yours?"
Jack smiled. "They can't have gotten all my exes. C'mon, I'll lead the way." With that, the five of them got onto the sidewalk. Soon enough they arrived at a white matchstick house. "This is it."
Jack, seemingly taking a moment to collect himself, walked up to the door and rang the bell. A woman with a very unusually curvy body, and tall figure answered the door. She was dressed in a black bralette, black skirt, and thigh-high black boots. Her roots needed to be dyed. "Jack!," she cried, a bit too loud. "Come in."
"Emilya," said Jack merrily. "Thank you so much."
Inside Emilya's house, the white furnishings created a serene and calming atmosphere. As they settled in, Emilya's gullible nature came to the forefront while she looked at the group with wide-eyed excitement. "Oh my gosh, you guys! You won't believe this! I saw you all on television! People are saying you're part of the Resistance and that you're gods in human form! Is it true?"
Rufus rolled his eyes playfully. "Oh, you got us! There's nothing godly about us, right, guys?"
Karen held up a finger dramatically. "Well, not entirely true, Rufus. We do have our...special qualities."
Nook blushed at the attention. "I-I think Emilya is referring to our alter egos, the ones with abilities beyond normal human capabilities."
Corey sighed and clarified, "Yes, it's true. We're more than just ordinary people. Each of us has unique gifts and responsibilities. For instance I just killed a hundred guys."
Jack, the brainy maverick, chimed in, "But we're not the only ones with powers. There's another one in town, Raj Dubey, people think he's the god Helion. And more still, in Spain City there's Grindall with his lightning."
Emilya's eyes widened even more. "Whoa, really?"
Karen nodded with a mysterious smile. "Indeed. But we try to keep a low profile to protect our loved ones."
Jack added, "Yeah, it's not all fun and games. Being part of the Resistance comes with its challenges."
Rufus glanced around the room, taking in the quirky decor. "You know, Emilya, you should probably keep this on the down-low too. We don't need everyone knocking on your door, thinking you're friends with the Gods."
Emilya giggled, oblivious to the gravity of the situation. "Oh, don't worry! My friends know I'm a bit spacey. They won't believe me anyway."
Jack, failing to respect any boundaries, looked Emilya up and down rather hungrily. "Are you still single?," he blurted. "Sorry, it's just. You're so good-looking."
"What's your power, Jack?," a candid Emilya asked.
Jack pouted. "Threatening people with a gun."
Emilya smiled and nodded. "That's really cool Jack. I'm not single, actually, but my girlfriend was looking for a guy we could have a threesome with, and I think – "
Jack's eyes widened. "Girlfriend?," he cut in. "Three way?! Are you fucking kidding me right now?!" He pounded his fist on the chair and stood up. "God, you just made me so horny I can't believe it. Sorry, guys."
Rufus nodded. "Yeah, me too. You're going to have to come back here later if any of us survive, Jack."
Emilya piped up. "What do you mean, if you survive? You guys will be okay, right? All you have to do is kill the vampires." She smiled and nodded reassuringly.
"Oh right," said Jack. "You believe in vampires, huh? You always did. Damn it, what a gal you are, Emilya. Thank you for letting us inside."
"Anytime," said Emilya. "You guys wanna watch the news? We can figure out what's going on by not believing whatever they say, all the time."
"Yeah," said Jack. "Turn on the TV." Emilya walked over to the aged television set and turned the dial away from the 'off' setting. The set flickered to life.
Redheaded Amanda Cairn was at it again. "Griffith, who blew up his own headquarters killing over a hundred brave Elite Tactical members, was caught in a shootout with Elite Tactical near the intersection of Diamond and – excuse me, here is our President, Robert Mayflower."
"Damn," said Jack. The others shushed him. An older man with a turkey neck flashed onto the screen. He wore a dark blue suit and tie. Everyone leaned in their seats.
"Good afternoon, my fellow Agarthans. With the death of David Griffith, we invite a new dawn for our country. Though our sacrifices have been great – "
Jack snarled. "Fuck me. They got to Mayflower too. I thought he was from Brownsville, what a sellout."
Karen nodded. "It seems we have few friends left in this world. For that reason, I have to thank you, Emilya. You let us into your home in a time when many would have turned us away. You have my eternal gratitude."
Emilya beamed. "It's not just me. A lot of people have heard about the man who escaped the earthquake in Cortez. Everyone saw it live, and then they heard Apollo talk about it live, and then, well. They've been killing too many people. They made themselves look bad."
Jack put his tongue in his cheek. "Maybe not. After all, they did get David Griffith. What a mess. That means they probably got everyone else, too." He put his face in his hands. "I can't believe they got him," he muttered.
Nook, sensing Jack's distress, spoke softly. "Jack, I know how much you idolized David. He was a complex man, and a hero. Losing him is a tremendous blow."
Corey interjected, "We can't afford to lose hope. David's death doesn't mean the end of the Resistance. We carry on his legacy, and we keep fighting."
Karen, channeling Nyx, added, "Death is an inevitable part of our journey. But it also fuels our determination to protect this realm and its people. They need us."
Rufus, being sarcastic as always, tried to lighten the mood. "Well, if we're gonna get all philosophical, I suppose it's our destiny to be the dysfunctional superhero team of Agartha. Except for me and Jack, of course."
Jack, still grappling with his emotions, nodded solemnly. "Yeah, sure. I can't help but feel responsible for not being there to help him. I should've been there."
Emilya, ever the optimist, put a comforting hand on Jack's shoulder. "You're doing your best, Jack. You can't save everyone, but you're doing more than most people would. I believe in you. I'm really glad you're here."
Karen chimed in, "We all do. We're a team, and we have each other's backs. We don't have to give up."
Nook, speaking with her quiet strength, added, "And we'll honor David's memory by continuing to fight for what's right. We'll take down The Monolith."

Bhojpuri actress Akanksha Dubey death: FIR against boyfriend-singer, brother for abetment to suicide
The 25-yer-old actress was found hanging from the ceiling in a hotel room in Sarnath area of Varanasi on Sunday.
Tumblr media
LUCKNOW: In connection with Bhojpuri actress Akanksha Dubey suicide case, her mother Madhu Dubey submitted a police complaint leading to the registration of an FIR against Bhojpuri singer Samar Singh and his brother Sanjay Singh under section 306 (abetment of suicide) with Sarnath police station on Monday.
The 25-yer-old actress was found hanging from the ceiling in a hotel room in Sarnath area of Varanasi on Sunday.
Holding Samar Singh and Sanjay Singh of Azamgarh responsible for Akanksha’s death, Madhu accused thema of not paying a single penny to her daughter who had been working with Samar for last three years. “Dues on Samar had gone above Rs three crore. Whenever Akanksha sought her money, Samar used to torture her threatening to kill her. Samar also used to harass her whenever she tried to work with other artistes,” said Madhu Dubey in her complaint.
According to Varanasi Additional Commissioner of Police Santosh Kumar Sing, on the basis of the complaint of Madhu Dubey, a named FIR against Samar Singh and Sanjay Singh was lodged. Body was sent for post-mortem examination, he said adding, a panel of doctors was formed to conduct autopsy.
“Prima facie it seemed to be a case of suicide as the room of actress was locked from inside when police opened it in hotel on Sunday morning. However, on the basis of all evidence collected scientifically from the spot and post-mortem report, it would be analysed to ascertain possibility of external involvement”, said ACP.
Earlier, on reaching Varanasi from Mumbai, Akansha’s mother directly reached Sarnath police station. Though in her complaint she alleged that Akanksha committed suicide because of being continuously tortured by Samar and Sanjay.
However, she claimed it to be a murder while talking to media persons. “Samar had promised her to pay Rs 70,000 for each album. Akanksha featured in so many albums for him. The dues on Samar had gone to Rs three crore which he had to pay to Akanksha. He even used to force Akanksha not to work with any other artist”, said Madhu.
She claimed that her daughter was threatened by Sanjay on March 21 that she would be abducted and killed. She added that Akanksha was busy in shooting in Basti when she received Sanjay’s threat over phone. On March 22, she reached Varanasi for shooting of her new film and on March 24, she was killed, claimed the mother. She added that Akanksha never reported the issue to police fearing dent to her popularity.
Madhu Dubey claimed that she spoke to her daughter last on Saturday morning. “She did not pick my call same night at around 12. I thought that she would be sleeping but, on Sunday morning, I got news of her death.” The starlet was on Instagram with 1.7 million followers and she was live at 2.25 am on Sunday where she can be seen sobbing.

Police Capabilities Regarding Encounters
Every society requires tranquilly and favourable conditions to advance. Disrupted and anarchic civilizations tend to devote all of their resources to unimportant endeavours. On the other hand, kids can develop and flourish if they have a sense of safety, security, and order. Herein lies the significance of the police in society. This system existed at all eras, in one form or another, with varying roles and obligations.
The word 'police' comes from the Latin word 'politia,' which signifies the state of a nation. The phrase refers to a set of rules for maintaining order and regulating the law. It basically refers to the deliberate preservation of public order and the protection of individuals and property against criminal acts committed against them.
Also Check: Supreme Courts Judgement Online
It also refers to the civil officials who are responsible for keeping public order and safety, upholding the law, and preventing and detecting crime. This work becomes more challenging in a multicultural, multiethnic, and enormous country with a large population, such as India.
The science of preserving peace and order in a dynamic society is policing. Consequently, the policing ideology, policing practises, and attitudes of those in charge of policing must change.
Since the late 20th century, the phrase encounter killing has been used in India and Pakistan to characterise extrajudicial executions by the police or armed forces, ostensibly in self-defense, when they confront suspected criminals or terrorists. Critics are sceptical of the police motivation behind a number of these recorded occurrences, and allege that the widespread acceptance of this terrible practise has led to instances of the police creating phoney confrontations to cover-up the death of individuals who were either in custody or unarmed.
According to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), fraudulent encounters are occasionally organised by police officers due to political masters' demand to produce rapid results by any means necessary. According to the NHRC's 2011 guidebook on human rights for police personnel, the public, particularly the educated middle class, does not mind if the police take the law into their own hands and become executioners, particularly with reference to feared criminals.
The second factor highlighted by the NHRC is that the country's sluggish criminal justice system exacerbates the police predicament. The duration of trials is virtually interminable, and the conclusion is unpredictable, especially in regards to the offenders who possess wealth, political influence, and physical might. Consequently, the police are under pressure to use shortcuts and illegal techniques. Very frequently, there is both political boss conspiracy and public backing.
Political leaders, public personalities, and the general populace have applauded the capture of criminal Vikas Dubey and his colleagues in light of the mounting concern and unease in the country over the escalating number of encounters. In addition, questions have been raised about the legality and appropriateness of the police action, resulting in a debate about whether a democratic country should follow constitutional norms and adhere to the due process of law or adopt measures of retributive justice to bring swift and instant justice to the victims.
It is acknowledged that encounters are one of the most significant and pervasive problems in our society. In a democratic nation like India, it is accountable for a huge number of extrajudicial killings, which is a tragic truth. This study presents, describes, analyses, investigates, and discusses Encounters in order to examine and expand existing understanding on the state of Encounters in India.
Relevant Laws
As long as the right to genuine self-defense is involved, Indian law does authorise police officers and citizens to murder another person.
Article 21 of the Constitution, however, states:
Protection of life and personal liberty - No individual should be deprived of his life or liberty unless in accordance with the legal process.
Although there is no provision in Indian law that expressly allows interactions with criminals, there are enabling clauses that may be construed in a variety of ways to grant police personnel the authority to deal with criminals.
In practically every situation when a police officer has been involved in an altercation, he or she acted in "self-defense."
Section 96 of the Criminal Code of India
Things done in private defense.-Nothing done in the exercise of the right to private defence constitutes an offence.
According to section 100 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), it is illegal to possess a firearm.
When the right of private defence of the body extends to causing death.-The right of private defence of the body extends, subject to the restrictions mentioned in the previous section, to the voluntary causing of death or of any other harm to the assailant, if the offence which gives rise to the exercise of the right is of any of the following descriptions:
Assaults that are capable of causing reasonable anxiety that death will otherwise be the result;
Assaults that might plausibly lead to the belief that grave harm will otherwise result from the attack.
An attack committed with the purpose to commit a rape;
An attack committed with the goal to satisfy unnatural passion;
An attack committed with the purpose to kidnap or abduct;
Assault with the aim to unlawfully confine a person, under conditions that may reasonably lead him to believe he would be unable to seek release from the public authorities.
IPC Section 97 states:
The right to defend one's body and property privately.
Subject to the constraints outlined in section 99, everyone has the right to defend:
His own body, as well as the bodies of others, against any offence against the human body;
The property, whether mobile or immovable, of oneself or any other person, against any act constituting a theft, robbery, mischief, or criminal trespass offence, or an attempt to commit such an offence.
This includes:
Section 102 of the Criminal Code of India
The beginning and continuation of the body's right to private defence. -The right of private defence of the body began as soon as a reasonable apprehension of risk to the body emerges from an effort or threat to commit the offence, even if the offence has not yet been committed; and it continues for as long as such apprehension of danger persists.
pertaining to the police
Article 46 of the 1973 Code of Criminal Procedure
46. How are arrests made?
In order to make an arrest, the police officer or other person performing the arrest must physically touch or restrict the body of the person to be detained, unless the subject submits verbally or physically.
If the individual violently resists or seeks to elude arrest, the police officer or other individual may use all measures required to effectuate the arrest.
Nothing in this clause authorises the execution of a person who is not accused of a crime punishable by death or life imprisonment.
300 of the Indian Penal Code – Murder
Exception 3.:
If the offender is a public servant or aids a public servant acting for the advancement of public justice, exceeds the powers granted to him by law, and causes death by doing an act that he, in good faith, believes to be lawful and necessary for the due discharge of his duty as such public servant, and without malice towards the person whose death is caused, then the homicide is not murder.
In the event that none of these laws can be invoked, the police officer responsible for the killing of the accused would be prosecuted with culpable murder under Section 299 of the Indian Penal Code. The justification for causing death during the contact will rely on the facts revealed and accepted after a thorough inquiry. Moreover, if the police personnel are convicted based on an inquiry, the deceased's family members must be compensated.
According to the Supreme Court, these are the guidelines for police encounter investigations.
State of Maharashtra (2014) 10 SCC 635 = 2015 Cri.L.J. In People's Union for Civil Liberties v. State of Maharashtra (2014) 10 SCC 635 = 2015 Cri.L.J. The Supreme Court issued the following directives in 610:
Whenever the police receives information or a tip indicating criminal movements or actions related to the conduct of a serious criminal offence, it must be committed to paper (ideally in a case diary) or electronic form.
This recording need not reveal specifics about the suspect or the destination of the party. If such intelligence or a tip is received by a higher authority, it may be recorded in some manner without disclosing the suspect's identity or whereabouts.
If, according to the tip-off or receipt of any intelligence as described above, an encounter occurs and the police party uses deadly force, resulting in a fatality, a FIR should be lodged and sent to the court under Section 157 of the Code without delay. When transmitting the Page 26 report pursuant to Section 157 of the Code, the method outlined in Section 158 must be followed.
The CID or police team of another police station will undertake an independent investigation of the event or encounter under the direction of a senior officer (at least a level above the head of the police party engaged in the encounter). At a minimum, the team conducting the inquiry/investigation must:
For the purpose of identifying the victim, colour images should be obtained;
To retrieve and preserve evidence relating to the deceased, such as blood-stained soil, hair, fibres and threads, etc.
To locate scene witnesses with complete names, addresses, and telephone numbers and to get their testimonies (including police personnel's statements) regarding the death;
To ascertain the cause, method, place (including development of a rough sketch of the area's topography and, if feasible, photo/video of the scene and any physical evidence), and time of death, as well as any pattern or practise that may have contributed to the death;
It must be guaranteed that fingerprints of the deceased are transmitted for chemical analysis in their whole. Other fingerprints must be identified, developed, lifted, and submitted for chemical examination;
Post-mortem examinations must be performed by two doctors at the District Hospital, one of whom should, wherever feasible, be the In-charge/Head of the District Hospital. Post-mortem examinations should be videotaped and kept;
Guns, projectiles, bullets, and cartridge casings should be collected and stored as proof of weaponry. Gunshot residue and trace metal detection should be undertaken whenever applicable.
The reason of death should be determined, whether it was natural, accidental, intentional, or unintentional.
In all situations of death resulting from police fire, an investigation must be conducted pursuant to Section 176 of the Code, and a report must be delivered to the Judicial Magistrate with authority pursuant to Section 190 of the Code.
Page 28 (5) The involvement of the NHRC is not required unless there are severe concerns regarding the investigation's independence and impartiality.
However, the incidence must be reported without delay to the NHRC or the State Human Rights Commission, as appropriate.
The wounded criminal or victim should get medical care, and the Magistrate or Medical Officer should record his or her statement and provide a certificate of fitness.
It should be assured that the relevant Court receives the FIR, diary entries, panchnamas, drawing, etc. without delay.
In accordance with Section 173 of the Code, the report shall be delivered to the relevant court following a thorough investigation of the occurrence. According to the charge sheet provided by the Investigating Officer, the trial must be ended quickly.
The next of kin of the suspected criminal/victim must be notified as soon as possible in the case of death.
DGPs are required to provide the NHRC with six-monthly updates on all instances involving police-involved fatalities. The six-monthly reports must be delivered to the NHRC by the 15th of January and July, respectively. The statements may be delivered along with post mortem, inquest, and, if available, inquiry reports in the following format:
Date and location of the event.
District Station, Police.
Causes of death: (a) Self-defense in a confrontation. b) During the dispersion of an unlawful gathering. b) During the process of effecting an arrest.
Concise details about the occurrence.
Criminal Case No.
Investigating Agency.
Conclusions of the Magisterial Inquiry/Senior Officers' Inquiry:
Disclosing, in particular, the names and designations of police officers if they are found to be responsible for the killing; and (b) determining whether the use of force was justifiable and the conduct was legal.
Disciplinary action must be taken against the officer and he must be placed on suspension if, upon completion of the inquiry, it is determined that a fatality resulted from the use of a firearm constituting an offence under the Indian Penal Code.
The method outlined in Section 357-A of the Code must be implemented when compensating the dependents of a victim who was killed during a confrontation with law enforcement.
Subject to Article 20 of the Constitution, the involved police officer(s) must give his/her weapons for forensic and ballistic investigation, as well as any additional evidence requested by the investigative team.
The occurrence must also be communicated to the police officer's family, who must be provided the services of a lawyer or counsellor if they require them.
No out-of-order promotions or instant valour awards shall be granted to the involved officers immediately following the event. It must be guaranteed at all costs that such awards/recommendations be given/made only when the valour of the respective officers is beyond question.
The victim's family may file a complaint with the Sessions Judge with territorial jurisdiction over the scene of the incident if it determines that the above procedure has not been followed or that there is a pattern of abuse, lack of an independent investigation, or lack of impartiality by any of the above-mentioned functionaries. Upon receipt of such a complaint, the relevant Sessions Judge shall investigate its merits and remedy the issues mentioned therein.
Guidelines For Police Encounter Investigations According To The National Human Rights Commission
In March 1997, the then-chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Justice M. N. Venkatachaliah, emphasised that the police do not have the authority to end a person's life except in the following two instances: if the person is a threat to public safety or if the police have reasonable grounds to believe that the person is a criminal.
If the death is the result of exercising the right to private defence.
Section 46 of the Criminal Procedure Code authorises the police to use force, up to and including the use of lethal force, if required to apprehend a suspect suspected of a crime punishable by death or life imprisonment.
In view of this, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) urged all states and Union Territories to ensure that police adhere to the following set of principles in encounter killings:
Register:
When the commanding officer of a police station learns about a fatal incident, he must report the facts in the relevant register.
Investigation:
Information received shall be deemed adequate to suspect, and prompt efforts must be made to examine the pertinent events and circumstances leading up to the death in order to determine if and by whom an offence was committed, if any.
Compensation:
It can be provided to the deceased's dependents if the police officers are charged based on the investigation's findings.
Independent Agency:
When members of the encounter party are police officers from the same police station, it is acceptable to send the cases for inquiry to an independent investigating agency, such as the State CID.
In 2010, the NHRC expanded these guidelines by including the following:
Registering FIR:
When a complaint is filed against the police claiming the commission of a crime recognised as a cognizable case of culpable murder, a FIR must be registered under the applicable IPC provisions.
Magisterial Inquiry:
As soon as feasible, a magisterial investigation must be conducted in all instances when a person dies as a result of police action (preferably within three months).
Following up with Commission:
Within 48 hours of the death, the Senior Superintendent of Police/Superintendent of Police of the District should provide a preliminary report to the Commission on all incidents of police-involved deaths in the states.
Within three months, the Commission must receive a second report containing material such as the post mortem report, the conclusions of the magisterial inquiry/inquiry by senior officials, etc.
The rules issued by the Supreme Court state that the NHRC's participation is not required unless there are strong concerns that the probe was not impartial.
Conclusion
As a law student, I believe that encounter murders must be examined independently because they undermine the integrity of the Rule of Law. There is a need to guarantee that the rule of law exists in society and is adhered to by all State authorities and the populace. There is an urgent need for a comprehensive review of the criminal justice system and the implementation of necessary police reforms. We must maintain the adequate physical custody of the accused in order to prevent any act of personal retribution against police officers.
The National Human Rights Commission agrees that the police lack a standard operating procedure for responding swiftly to panic situations. Therefore, it is necessary to establish standard rules for the police personnel's training and provide them with the relevant abilities so that they can properly deal with every terrifying and stressful circumstance. The Commission has urged law enforcement officials to bear human rights in mind while interacting with arrested individuals/people.
For a few of families, the only remedy for horrific and cold-blooded acts is death. However, popular attitudes that equate sluggish legal decisions and justice with swift retaliation are neither moral nor justifiable.
Even if the ever-increasing number of crimes has produced an atmosphere of dread and pain, the death of an accused person might send the incorrect message to society. Therefore, it is the moral duty of the state to urge the police to prevent antisocial individuals while simultaneously limiting the flagrant abuse of authority. I am confident that the Indian society can abandon such unconstitutional and inhumane ideas and place complete faith in the rule of law.
