Okay so I am two years too late. But I've watched Hometown Cha Cha Cha a million times and I rightfully have some thoughts.
Dusik is very masculine. But he's the soft kind of masculine. He subverts every trope of being a man without letting go of traditional masculinity, the kind we associate with those podcast men. And that's what is so beautiful about him. He's kind and understanding and doesn't shame or put down Hye Jin for Anything. Instead he sits and has a conversation with her and understands her viewpoint. And this especially comes through when Hye Jin is running and the grandmas are painting it as blasphemy. He talks to her like an adult capable of making her own choices instead of belittling her for wearing, what the grandmas thought of as "less clothes". Dusik shows that you can be traditionally masculine without being an asshole or embracing the more toxic parts of traditional masculinity. Like when he scolds the hardware store owner for not being there for HIS HEAVILY PREGNANT WIFE. And the fact that he is taking help for his mental health and IT IS SHOWN.
Now coming to Hye Jin. I absolutely loved her because she reminds me of myself. She's shy, a bit grumpy, introverted and is friendly... To her friends. She has trouble being with people and that shows in her actions and therefore she comes off as rude BUT THAT'S OKAY. She doesn't show her love through her words but through her actions and you can see that. And she's ambitious. She does what she needs to. She says only what she NEEDS to say and I need more female characters like that. She's not sunshine on a rainy day. And no one expects her to be and I doubt she will change and GOOD FOR HER. Her love and respect is earned. And you see that throughout the show. She slowly warms up to the people there. And she takes care of them in her own way. And even better? She does have an open mind. She's open to changes, she's open to listening and understanding. She's wise and she's kind (in her own way) and I love her for it.

An excerpt of Writer's Interview from Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha's script book volume 2.
Q: Many readers are curious about when Dusik felt love for Hye-jin and how much he loved Hyejin. It's partly because of Dusik's trauma, but there were also scenes where Dusik's sincerity was blocked by circumstances every time he was about to say something. If it wasn't for the assailant, would Dusik have confessed to Hyejin in episodes 9-10? At the end of episode 10, when Hyejin confessed, Dusik said "Dentist, I..." was it a rejection that was meant to be said afterwards?
-
A: I would like to leave it to your judgment as to when Dusik has felt love for Hyejin. I didn't write with any specific moment in mind. However, Dusik was concerned about Hye-jin from the epilogue in episode 1, felt a deep sympathy for Hyejin when she talked about her mother in episode 4 (and he accepted the kiss at the same time), and in the epilogue of episode 5, he fell into a deep sleep and felt a sense of relief by Hyejin's presence. It would be correct to say that he was already in love at some point as it seeps in sequentially.
Until the middle of the drama, Dusik's emotional lines are not directly revealed. This is because the narrative is hidden, and Dusik is unable to be honest or outwardly expressive about his feelings. You may have felt that it was unkind or omitted. For this reason, if Dusik's love for Hyejin was expressed in a small way, it is unconditionally my negligence. I couldn't find a better way and kept it hidden in the epilogue.
However, if you watch the second half of the drama, you will be able to feel it if you look at Dusik's actions from the beginning, that every step Dusik took towards Hyejin was courage.
And in fact, there were moments when Dusik almost mustered up his courage. It happened when he met Taehwa and Myungshin in episode 9. When Sunghyun made an implied comment to Dusik that it seemed like his acting as a boyfriend wasn't over, Dusik responded by saying, "If it looks like that, it looks like that." It is the first time for Dusik to show his feelings to others. And that night, Dusik, who was agonizing, recalled Taehwa's words and went to Hyejin. If an assailant didn't appear, Dusik might have tried to confess. But He didn't think it would have succeeded all at once. Even after going to see her with a resolute mind, Dusik must have been hesitant. In fact, after the assailant broke in, Dusik didn't confess even though he was alone with Hyejin in his house. He read the poem 'The Gatekeeper' to Hyejin and stopped at "Thus it is my job to deny my love." It was his heart that he could neither confess nor deny his love.
Even when he received Hyejin's confession in episode 10, he held on to his string of reasons at first. This is because he loves Hyejin, but he didn't dare to wish for them to be connected. I didn't think of the line after "Dentist, I...", but it's true that he was going to reject her. However, he collapsed at Hyejin's words, "I can't help it anymore.".

top 10 kdrama bromances to feed your empty heart
if you scroll through my page, you can already guess number 1.
#10 - our beloved summer : choi ung and kim ji ung
beautiful beautiful men choi woo shik and kim sung cheol played ung bros for life in this beautiful beautiful drama. one of the best handled love triangles ive seen. they were there for each other through thick and thin, and helped each other through sm. best. on the tenth spot because they could've expanded on it more :(
#9 - what's wrong with secretary kim? : lee young joon and park yoo sik
i could never make it through the series. i left it behind on ep9/10 i think, and primarily because i physically cannot digest how emotionless park min young is. BUT, kudos to the hilarious office best bromance by the great park seo joon and kang ki young. ps - why is kang ki young the pankaj tripathi of korean dramas?
#8 - strong girl do bong soon : ahn min hyuk and in gook du
can we ever forget the legendary wink? or the dream where min hyuk is dressed as a woman? i think not. this was more of a frenemy type bromance, united by their love for bong soon and ironically divided by it, too. i refuse to acknowledge this as a love triangle tho. bong soon was astronomical in not hurting gook du and i will not take any criticism. is it a bromance if one of them is pretending to be gay? (and no, we will not discuss any sort of iTs pRoBLeMaTiC debates here.)
#7 - tale of the nine tailed : lee yeon and koo shin ju
don't come at me with the lee rang comments. rang was his half brother, related by blood. their relationship was top tier, but the stay at home husband yeon and working husband shin ju was too cute to not be classified as a bromance. in the beginning, i saw their relationship as shin ju serving yeon, a dynamic that they both seemed to embody. but as the show progresses, yeon baby we know you love shin ju just as much :*
#6 - alchemy of souls : jang uk and seo yul
song joon ki seems to have an attachment to bromances. han seo had the best character arc of the ENTIRE kdrama universe fight me. that court scene where vincenzo pats han seo's cheek was max bro cuteness. still not over his death. he deserved better.
#5 - vincenzo : vincenzo cassano and jang han seo
even though i didn't very much like the show's first couple, bromance delivered well. hospital scene peaked, complete true beauty sameness. it was pretty hard to understand who was the superior officer in this tbh initially, since their comraderie was so cool, shi jin was kid to soldier in a split second. loved how they chose not to unnecessarily exaggerate the love triangle initially bec i was only rooting for the second couple.
#4 - descendants of the sun : yoo shi jin and seo dae young
business proposal was the first kdrama i saw. i finished it in a three day trip, and i remember thinking more about the bromance than the romance. i was NOT used to the clumsiness of kdramas in general, like wattpad fics incarnated. the bromance delivered well, made me root for the second couple, and was the only initial indicator of kang tae moo being human instead of archaeopteryx. that word was a nightmare to spell.
#3 - business proposal : kang tae moo and cha sung hoon
the most wolfstar bromance if I ever saw one. and NO, i do not ship wolfstar just like i do not ship these two. they are totally adorable, and specially since their personalities seemed to switch from when they were children. yeong turned all serious face and lee gon got fun. love their years of friendship sm, their wordless communication and yeong in general. the acting was amazing.
#2 - the king - eternal monarch : lee gon and jo yeong
#1 - guardian - the lonely and great god : kim shin aka goblin and wang yeo aka grim reaper
yes, i know I'm missing a lot of iconic ones. unfortunately, i haven't seen alot of kdramas and have left alot in bw (like true beauty bec i couldn't see second lead hurt).
spring onion slays ^
told ya, if u follow me u already knew what the first one was gonna be. being the simp i am for the goblin and grim reaper, these two achieved the max points for their bromance. that slow dynamic of goblin calling reaper's hat tacky to fighting with knives to that iconic 'saranghae' to 'HOW DARE YOU' to goblin boiling eggs with his powers while reaper chills the beer. they know each other so well. love love love them and you should too 🔪
in my heart, the trio of our boys beats nothing (except for the gookdu-minhyuk relationship of the crown prince and uk). but instead of choosing the frenemy thing, i decided to love yul and uk more. yul was such a quiet character, with incredible potential in him for me to hate him, but then...(the guy is literally too sweet and beautiful and nice i can ramble for days). and uk, man, our power baby who loves every version of our beautiful but slow girl, needed so much emotional support. uk and yul were not afraid to show their affection for each other, a trait i admired in all the three boys (jang uk, seo yul and park dang gu).

Hello Luta!
I saw you are feeling darkness and murder husbands. I can't really offer murder husbands, but I offer Psychopath Diary and Under the Skin as suggestions: https://mydramalist.com/37255-psychopath-diary https://mydramalist.com/70249-lie-zui-tu-jian The serial killer in Psychopath Diary becomes infatuated with the main character too but for entirely different reasons than in Strangers From Hell.
Hey kisa!!!
Omg, these look good. I'm super excited! Yes, yes, I am!! Bless you!!
Yook Dong Shik is a 34-year-old office worker who is so weak and timid that he is used by everybody around him. After an incident, he becomes the scapegoat of his company, and so facing losing his job and his family turning their back on him, he decides to commit suicide. While doing so, he unexpectedly stumbles across a murder scene, but gets into an accident while running from the murderer. He wakes up with amnesia with the psychopath's diary in his possession. With no clues to his true nature other than the diary, and his fragmented memory lining up with the diary entry, he begins to believe that he is in fact a psychopath serial killer. 30-year-old neighborhood police officer, Shim Bo Kyung is investigating a suspected serial homicide. After a few run-ins with Dong Shik, she believes that he is an extremely kind man. However, after one too many coincidences, she starts to suspect Dong Shik might be more involved in the case than she thought. 36-year-old Seo In Woo is a cold and meticulous psychopath. On the day of his 7th crime, things go wrong and he loses his diary where he writes of all his daily life and detailed description of his murders.
The young painter Shen Yi resigned from the Academy of Fine Arts and entered Haicheng Public Security Bureau mysteriously. Interpol Captain Du Cheng was furious and said that he would never accept those who caused his comrade to be killed in the police force. Five years ago, Shen Yi, who was still a student, was sketching on the street. A man took a picture of a child and asked him to draw what the child would look like as an adult. However, this painting caused Haicheng detective Lei Yi Fei to be exposed as an undercover agent and he was killed. And Lei Yi Fei happened to be Du Cheng's long-time friend and confidant. The strange thing is that, no matter how hard Shen Yi tried of recall for a few years, he couldn't draw the face of the man who asked him to paint the child's photo. Five years later, the guilt became heavier. In order to find out the truth, Shen Yi accepted the invitation of Director Zhang of the Public Security Bureau and became a portraitist of the Interpol Team. Under Zhang Ju’s persuasion and arrangement, Du Cheng had to accept that he became a colleague with Shen Yi, but he was still full of annoyance and despised Shen Yi’s “drawing to solve cases,” and the two became the “ticking bomb” in the team. However, in several collaborations, Shen Yi has repeatedly cracked the "dead end" of cases with his "three-year-old painting", "drawing based on audio," "micro-color discrimination" and other stunts, which slowly started to impress Du Cheng. More importantly, the truth of Lei Yi Fei's death is still buried in Shen Yi's memory. On the way to find out the truth of Lei Yi Fei's life and death, the two people who were pursuing alone gradually untie their knots and rely on each other. In the end, "the heaven-matched partners" work together to uncover the dust-covered secrets and create a new world for each other.
Thank you for the suggestions!!! 💜💜💜

I know you're not gonna believe it but by the end of the show Du shik was our baby.
Du-sik actually likes Hyejin a lot. Much more so than Hyejin does him. And honestly the pacing of this drama is shit. But Du-sik is actually behaving this way because he likes her. (I know it's fucked up).
The main problem(also a good point in a way) with this show is that it takes a looot of time in getting to the point.
He's actually a very broken person with a lot of anxiety and abandonment issues and puts up this confident, casual, friendly facade to hide that.
I wouldn't call it one of my favourite dramas, but I guess so many people on Tumblr liked this drama because the second half of the drama deals with a lot of issues. It's not something very bingeable and there's not the firey love and angst and pain(that we like), but Hometown cha cha cha kinda shows a realistic version of a relationship.
All it's the first show that I've seen where the first and second ml don't form an enmity over the fl. Infact this is the first show where they become very nice friends later on.
And I guess amid a sea of green flags, Hong Du-sik stands out because he's so very broken and damaged mentally that sometimes he does things that a typical green flag male wouldn't do, which is in line with his character. But still he tries his best for Hyejin.
I tried to make this post without any spoilers. But if it's 9th episode then their dating era should start very soon and things get better from there on.
Since you've come this far. Please go on
I'm done.
The only thing I ship Du-sik with at this point is perpetual singlness. I hate the idea of him and Hye-jin getting together, she deserves better. She deserves Seong-hyeon, but of course he must have some weird flaw or else she's just going to go with hormones because I don't know why else she would like Du-sik who treats her like crap (except when he has a whim and doesn't). I guess I finally have experienced Second Male Lead Syndrome
Also, I doubt anyone (mostly Du-sik) is going to apologize for assuming that Hye-jin was all privileged when it turns out her life sucked just as much as the rest of them. So what she's a little snobby and doesn't make friends quickly? She is a good person and I can't bear watching everyone crucify her for nothing.
Honestly I'm just confused as this point as to why so many people whose taste I respect like this drama. I hate it. I think the male lead is horrible. Justice for Hye-jin! Director for Hye-jin! Let my girl be free!
#aldo if not...#i implore you to try Vincenzo#I've been telling you to watch that since a year#don't you think it's high time you listen to me?#also if it's pain and angst you're searching for you should go for Bulgasal#the shows literal theme was PAIN but with aesthetic cinematography#i think you'll love it

Name a character game - 1, 7, and 13
Hi - Thanks for the ask!! Hope your work day is going well!
#1 - Who you want to go on a walk with? -- Can I answer with two people?? I'm going to say...
Dean or Win --They both seem like laid back kind of guys so I would want to go to the beach for our walk and chat about nothing major and relax while listening to the waves crash against the beach, also prefer either at sunset or sunrise. Also I like seeing them both in swimsuits. 😉
#7 - Who you relate to? ---Ok so I answered this one already with another ask, so let me choose someone else from a non BL show actually...
Hong Du-shik - I relate to him since I've also had a lot of jobs over the years (mostly because I moved a lot ) but also he likes to help others and I'm all about helping when I can. He also comes across as someone who is genuine about his feelings, and as we know I am and can be a tad too honest with my feelings.
#13 - To throw you a birthday party?--
Namgoong - we saw how he throw the welcome to student council party and the unique gift he got his friend. We know he like to sing, and that he can dance 😉so I feel that he would be able to throw me a party that I will enjoy!!
#bl ask game#ask game replies#thanks for the ask!#sorry it took a hot minute to answer#lunch time answer#until we meet again#light on me#hometown cha cha cha#1 no BL answer sorry#lost count how many times i used that word ..also ...sorry

Taylor Swift x my favorite ships • Part 7
Yoon Hye-jin x Hong Du-sik (Hometown Cha Cha Cha)
Lover
"My heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue / All's well that ends well to end up with you / Swear to be overdramatic and true to my lover"
First of all, I need an edit of them to this song like, yesterday. These two really check every box in this song, from "we can let our friends crash in the living room" to "have i known you 20 seconds or 20 years?" (the answer is both). They're also so disgustingly sweet with each other, even their neighbors are sick of them and it is glorious.
Jump Then Fall
"The bottom's gonna drop out from under our feet/ I'lI catch you, I'lI catch you / When people say things that bring you to your knees, I'll catch you / The time is gonna come when you're so mad you could cry, but I'lI hold you through the night until you smile"
Hye-jin and Du-sik are basically the most adorable babeys ever for most of the series, and then towards the end (minor spoilers) when their relationship becomes deeper and their past traumas are revealed, they hold each other tight and help each other's wounds heal.

In the first appearance, he appears as a young but intelligent figure in front of Sunuk, who explains the situation of the world, and after the Great War of Guando, his eldest brother Jo-bi kills all the women in Yuan-so's family and only saves him. While doing so, he is caught by his mother, Mr. Byun [12], and is beaten by his confidant and faints. (…) Later, Mr. Byun is sent to Heo-do to take Jo Shik away from Mr. Gyeon. The day before she goes to Heo-do, she hears from Mr. Byun that her love with Mr. Gyeon is a betrayal of her heavenly principles and that she will stop it no matter what. Afterwards, whether she came to her senses, nothing about Mr. Gyeon comes out except once.
Cao Cao's victory over Yuan Shao and the talents of the four northern provinces, together with Shi Shi, go to Heo Island. At the banquet attended by Heonje, a commotion arises when Jobi conveys Jojo's request to Jinrim to read the writings that betrayed him. In response, Gong-yong [13] said that it was rude to recite such a text in front of the emperor, and wrote a poem about the turbulent times that began with Tensangshi and Dongtak's tyranny and the hearts of the imperial family and people who suffered from it. The Emperor hears his cigar and is moved to tears. Suddenly, Jo Shik recites Naksinbu. Then, Jin-rim is surprised to see Shi-sik reciting a poem at once, and Jo-bi realizes who the poem is referring to. Heonje recalls the bewitching goddess just by listening to the cigar. However, Gong-yong blocks Shik's cigar, saying that it is rude to discuss such lustful cigars in the royal palace. Jin-rim then argues with Gong-yong, saying that Jo Shik's poetry is to open the door to a new language. At that time, Jojo enters the banquet hall beating drums. Gong-Yong and Jin-Lin stop talking for a moment, but Jo-Jo beats the drums and puts the beat, saying that such an argument is also a good cigar. Then the band follows Jojo and plays in a new tone. Seeing this, Gong Rong criticizes Jojo, who possesses the strongest military force on earth and has a strong influence on the court, trying to obtain literature and art as an unprecedented act of tyranny. Cho Shik refutes Gong Rong's words and says that literature can end this troubled world. Gong-yong argues against Shik again, but Jin-rim agrees with him, saying that his poems brought Confucianism down from its absolute position. Then, Jojo agrees with Jinrim's words and declares to everyone not to be suppressed in Confucianism and to let their talent bloom to their heart's content. In response, an explanation of the wind bone of the Han Yu (漢魏) comes out against the background of the scene where Emperor Heonje personally dances.
Looking at the later appearances, he shares friendship with literary men including Jinrim and Wangchan, but he starts drinking alcohol in frustration that the only thing he can do in the rapidly changing Wei Dynasty is to write. At the time when King Wi ascended to the throne and Cao Bi became the Crown Prince, he showed a drunken appearance to the extent that he could not take any countermeasures, but nevertheless, his wealth was the best in the world, and he was revered as a Chinese saint until Du Fu appeared hundreds of years later. After the narration that he received it, he does not appear anymore.

Hometown Cha Cha - Masterclass in Love Triangle and Bromance
I detest love triangles - I don’t like seeing people heartbroken over unrequited love. I have rarely seen love triangles resolved amicably with no bad blood between the rivals. Most times they will fight , hate on each other or be competitors pulling each other down and the other times one of them will die, or one of them won’t confess, or if they confess, the person in question won’t have the decency to respectfully decline the confession (Do not get me started on StartUp and Dalmi - it will result in a long post on how terrible she was to Han Ji Pyeong - DoDal fans stay away, I have no time for you). So given my past experience with a crappy love triangle in Startup and the fact that I was witnessing Hometown Cha Cha Cha setting all the wrongs done in Startup right, I was slightly upset to see another love triangle creep in.
One because I was really beginning to like Ji PD’s character and Lee Sang Yi is a good actor. So I would not have been able to bear DuSik pull a DoSan on Ji PD.
Two, DuSik despite being surrounded by people who loved and cared for him, was a loner at heart. HyeJin was steadily making her way into his heart bringing his walls down. Sure DuSik needed to find the love of his life, but he had also lost a brother and a friend and he would appreciate if he found one again a lot more. Speaking from my own experience, it’s always better to find the love of your life and best friend in two different people rather than in a single person.
I loved how DuSik and Seong-Hyun ended up saving each other from falling into the sea.
Gif credit @iamacolor
Gif credit @junghaesin
Shared a common love for vintage cameras, photography and food. It was good to see the know-it-all DuSik get handed a lesson in modesty by a guy who was no villain, but an insanely likeable, good natured fellow just like DuSik was. Both had a natural chemistry going from the moment they met - yes pretty much like DuSik and HyeJin did from the word go and I loved their crazy, comic timing together.
Gif credit @idakosukes
How can you even get over their comical scene appreciating the exquisite rare fish meal at Hwa Jeong’s restaurant. Ji-Won was right to warn Doha to not tread on their paths.
The surfing lessons and all the banter, the jealousy surfacing and the need to outdo each other , but while maintaining respect for each other.
Gif credit @forursmiles @iamacolor
But there was the elephant in the room and each needed to address it sooner than later.
Seong-Hyun was in love with HyeJin for 14 years. She was his first love in college and he hesitated to confess to her. He had clearly not watched Reply 1988 because he would’ve got some valuable lessons from Jung Hwan - the one who hesitates always loses. So this time after meeting her again, he decided not to hesitate, though he had already sensed the atmosphere and knew he didn’t stand a chance against DuSik. But he confessed nevertheless, for himself, to have no regrets and that was a lovely message - that we need to open our true feelings and our heart for our own growth , so we can move on with zero regrets.
How beautiful was HyeJin in her response to his confession. She was so mature and measured in her response. So truthful and honest. What a realistic character Shin Ha Eun has given us. She was so respectful to him, his feelings and her own feelings. She did not hide from him that she indeed had feelings for him during their college days, but she did not think it would work out. We all go through these insecurities at that age, because we are battling so much while growing up that we are afraid to hurt ourselves. I got a bit emotional because it reminded me of my college days and how I never opened up about my first crush - for the fear that I would lose a friend (we have sadly lost touch over the years - no fall out) and I knew we would have never made it work, because we wanted such different things in life. But then who knows, maybe being honest would have made me have less regrets and the what ifs would have gone forever. It’s why I admire and love HyeJin even more - she was honest to her first love because she owed him that and bold enough to confess to the love of her life without fear of rejection. And the natural next step is that the second lead goes away from the couple and everyone moves on with their lives. But not this drama, because Hometown Cha Cha Cha was tropey for sure, but the writer was also a master at subverting these tropes. Seong-Hyun is a wonderful guy and so is DuSik and both are mature enough to not let go of their new found friendship.
Seong-Hyun delivers the best line of Episode 11 - it’s why I love his character, it’s why he will be a forever favourite second lead (Again don’t remind me Han Ji Pyeong was the second lead, if you watched StartUp, you know that’s a lie that we were fed)
I have watched 70 odd KDramas and none comes to mind which had such a beautiful, mature resolution to a love triangle. Hats off to Shin Ha Eun for delivering the best lesson in how to handle love triangles.
Ji Seong-Hyun may have lost his first love, but he was not going to lose a friend. DuSik knows he had found one too.
It is wonderful that when both are at their lowest and their hearts are hurting , they are there for each other to give the nudge they needed to move ahead in their respective relationships.
DuSik is at his lowest and scared to reach out to HyeJin, it’s Seong-Hyun who comes and tells him to lay all the cards in front of her honestly and that he trusts her enough to accept DuSik with all his faults. How right he is!
Seong-Hyun loses his appetite and is hurting at the thought of Ji-Won leaving him. DuSik makes him realise that his pain this time is greater than it was when HyeJin rejected him; and that he should not be hesitating again to lose Ji-Won in his life.
There is no need to have elaborate talks - because these two guys just get each other. Ji PD gets Hong DuSik just like HyeJin does. Ji PD is the one who tells DoHa: ‘It mustn’t have been easy for DuSik either - what a stroke of bad luck to hit everyone’. He pretty much won me over with that line, because like everyone else without hearing Dusik’s side, he could have so easily hated on DuSik too. But he didn’t, because he knows - he knows DuSik, even though DuSik hasn’t opened up to him. And that’s the kind of friend you need for life!
There are many wonderful bromances in KDramas and if I see the next list that comes out without Hong DuSik and Ji Seong-Hyun on it, I will be revolting!
