I really enjoyed your Structural Support DTW. As someone looking from the outside, I'm interested in how you categorized the limited archetypes as 2 Novel, 4 Recognizable with a Twist, and 4 Meat and Potatoes. I feel like some archetypes are more likely to be Novel, like Green-Blue, and others seem to be consistently less Novel, like Red-White. Do you think this is inherent to the color pie or just because of a lack of imagination with how to develop archetypes?
Different color combinations are easier to tweak than others. Red/white is one of the hardest.

The Man in the Uniform ch6 is up!
Tumblr media
Summary:
After their chaotic intervention at the Forger’s, Chloe pours her heart and gives Yuri a piece of her mind. In order to fix whatever they’ve gotten into, Yuri must find out why does he keep coming back to her. Taking his heart on her hands, their encounter makes them reminisce the events of a year before, when Ostania’s downfall began.
Additional world building notes for the Down the Wall series ‼️・→
Ch. 6 overlaps with TDYWB -Twiyor beginning to brew (which means there’s hints and spoilers of them in the MITU)
The Mitt incident sparks the events mentioned in Ch. 3 of DTW
Timeline wise, the actual time of this story is around 1969, which means the Mitt incident happens in February of 1968
In this timeline, three years have passed since the beginning of operation Strix and most of the events of DTW haven’t happened yet (so there’s a few spoilers and details about Yuri’s character that make more sense when following this story)
DTW has multiple timelines but MAIN one takes place in 1974
"You can relax, we're not on a date or anything." She spoke. Yuri opened one of his eyes and closed them again. "You're not my type anyway."
"What are you talking about?" He puffed. The loudspeaker announced the next station and they started to walk towards the doors of the train. “You’ve been pretty stiff and you haven’t even looked at me once. Afraid we'll run into your sister again?" Silence. "Yeah, that's what I thought." The doors opened and they began to blend into the flow of the crowd.
A few stairs ahead, they ascended to the exit, now joining the bustling life of Berlint-Mitt, their city center, the main attraction for any visitor interested in Ostanian culture and history. Many of the most important buildings were there, still standing despite having been the target of many attacks during the wars. A lot of money had gone into rebuilding these buildings, and it wasn't hard to imagine how many people were involved in their preservation. Chloe blended in with ease, her dignified face matching the beauty of these structures while showing her ability to adapt and represent a modern era. At that moment, he noticed that she was fighting the cold just to keep up with her fashion choices. In other words, she was wearing her best clothes, but she was freezing just to look the part. A sudden sneeze stopped them both and he sighed in disbelief at what he was about to do. Better to be careful than to risk compromising their mission.
"Here. Put this on." It was Yuri's gray jacket that he had draped over her shoulders. "You look like a popsicle." He added. Startled by his sudden kindness, she just nodded and slipped her arms through the sleeves. It was warm. "Yeah, thanks Lieutenant."

Vampire!Ace Trappola
CW: Vampires, Ace drinks your blood, mentions of a wound from that.
Just a little bit yabai, please read at your own discretion!
"Are you dumb or something?" Ace mutters. His gaze is conflicted as it rests on you. "Why aren't you running off?"
"You're the dumb one here." You scoff, crossing your arms. For someone volunteering to be a bloodbag, you didn't seem very concerned at all. "Why would I run from you? It's not like you're going to kill me from just a meal."
No - but Ace would've preferred if you were more worried for yourself. He sighs, staying in place. "I'm not drinking from you. You should take this more seriously, you know? I could take too much, and then-"
"-and if I pass out, you better nurse me back to health." You say it as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. You place your hands on Ace's shoulders, forcing him to look at you. "I know you're worried about somehow messing this up, but I trust you. You need blood to live, right? And you haven't fed in a while."
Ah, this isn't good - with you so close, the urge to bite grew stronger. You were dangling a dessert right before his face.
"...Just a little." Ace bit his lip. "Don't go complaining later on if it hurts more than you expected."
He contemplated where to drink from, running his thumb over the side of your neck. You tensed. He could feel your pulse more clearly now - it skipped in anticipation, and...
Ace couldn't help but smile to himself: you acted all high and mighty, but you're kind of scared too, aren't you?
He didn't hate that. It was good that you still had some sense in front of a predator.
As he leaned closer to your neck, you held your breath - only to let out a noise of confusion as he took your wrist instead, drawing your palm to his lips, and bit.
It stung a little, but you were too distracted by the way it tickled afterwards, and how Ace's eyes were still on you: half-lidded and not completely focused, glowing just slightly as he drank. Your body felt warm, as if he was drawing blood from all over.
Your mind grew a bit fuzzy - perhaps an ability of his to placate his victims - before the warmth of him drew away. Your palm was throbbing slightly where the skin was punctured, but not enough to really hurt. Ace placed a gentle kiss on the wound, and you watched in awe as he muttered in a language you didn't understand, commanding the wound to heal before your very eyes.
"You feeling okay?" His words were tentative, as if he was still tasting the blood - your blood, on his tongue. Ace licked his lips absentmindedly as he examined your complexion, placing his hands on your face to get a read of your temperature.
"I... I'm fine," you croaked.
Ace smiled despite himself, chuckling lightly as he brushed his thumb over your cheek - savoring you. "Yeah... You are. Just don't go offering yourself to some other vampire, alright? Not all of them are as gentle as me."

The First Years Playing DnD
Sooo I’ve been on a dnd kick lately (like I’ve seriously been obsessed over it in every way) and I got some ideas about this sooo here’s a thing I wrote with all the first years including Ortho and Grim. Poor Yuu having to dm a 7 player game... but they’re the one who brought all the source books with them on their phone when coming to Twisted Wonderland so they brought this on themselves.
Grim
Originally suggested (read: pestered) that everyone try out this "role-playing thing”, since most of the other first years had at least heard of it. And it sounded fun to get to blow stuff up! Which he does... a lot. He’s your stereotypical, ever memed, Evocation Wizard. He’s never met a problem he couldn’t fireball, and if he does, he clearly hasn’t used enough fire. Also he flavors all his fire as blue... and he plays a tabaxi... and his character is filled with ambition and arrogance to be the world’s greatest mage... Yeah hes the guy who just plays himself. Everyone else is frequently annoyed by his antics, and keeps asking him to just try ONE utility spell they’re practically begging at this point. At least when they do get into combat he’s very effective, honestly he spends more time maximizing his damage output than he does focusing in class...
Ace
Jumped on board because he was pretty bored. REALLY jumped on board when he realized role playing wasn’t “Just talking to people about stuff that isn’t real” He’s still not actually very good at roleplay, but at least he makes up for it by being very enthusiastic about the human rogue he’s playing. Considering he picked the thief subclass... and begins every new npc meeting or room entry by stealing everything that isn’t nailed down (and some of that too. His starting equipment includes a crowbar and by damn he’s going to use it!) Even if he struggles to roleplay he still winds up more helpful to the party than Grim, at least since he stopped stealing from the party. After Epel nearly beat him up... out of character. That was a pretty heated session.
Deuce
Was also relatively interested because he didn’t have much else going on. Unlike Ace though he’s actually REALLY into roleplay. He’s one of the few who gave you an in depth backstory to work with. He’s a proud Oath of Redemption Paladin, a dwarf who left on an adventure in order to make his family proud! Because even in an RPG he can’t help but try to be the best boy he can be. He’s the one making sure Ace’s character doesn’t steal from anyone too important (when he rolls high enough on perception) and keeps the party on track. Of course that doesn’t mean he dislikes the other aspects of the game. It just means when he uses his divine smite every chance he gets, he’ll give an appropriate one liner with it.
Jack
He got roped into it. But he’s begrudgingly glad he did because he thinks it’s great. Jack’s definitely more into this because he gets to spend time with his friends classmates, but just like everything else that doesn’t mean he’s half assing it. He’s gone full in on the fantasy theme like Deuce and plays an elf, and he’s the only one other than Ortho who read ahead of level one to pick his class: A Circle of the Land Druid, the desert version. You’re not sure why he picked it, but the way his tail wags whenever he describes his plant spells making cacti pop out of the ground to impede his enemies might be a hint. You were half expecting him to use his wild shape on the dire wolf... but he said that wouldn’t make sense for a desert druid, so he usually picks either a lion... or hyena... Unless he really feels like going fast. He’s a decent role player, but doesn’t get nearly as into it as Deuce or Ortho.
Epel
He was in from the moment he realized he could make the character however he liked. AND role playing is sort of like acting right? So Vil couldn’t be upset with whatever Epel decided for his character (the fact that Epel was right about this however very much did upset Vil). It shouldn’t be a surprise then that his character is the most masculine, most smashy, most... tall? He’s a Goliath Berserker Barbarian. His roleplay might not be much more complex than the basics, along with some intimidation and Barbarian screaming, but he’s definitely having some of the most fun at the table. It wasn’t exactly surprising when he showed you his backup character... a rune knight fighter. He’d been playing the game for only a few weeks and he already found out how to max out player size.
Ortho
Ah Ortho, a dream and a nightmare all at once... You should have expected how he’d take to roleplay like a fish to water given his love of acting out movies and games alike... you ALSO should have known that Idia Shroud’s brother would make the most min-maxed character known to man, To both ends, he plays a scourge aasimar death cleric. He gave you more details on his character’s incredibly complex backstory than anyone else, complete with an angel civil war and his characters entire life history. Which he does keep in mind when he’s roleplaying to be fair. Of course, he also destroys all encounter balance since his character is so optimized: damage, healing, support, debuffs. He’s got it all. Why a death cleric though when technically any would do? Oh that’s just because he really likes the Lord of the Underworld, he is in Ignihyde after all!
Sebek
Sebek was not originally invited, he inserted himself when he heard Malleus mention that this “Dungeons and Dragons” you had mentioned sounded interesting. So of course he had to try it himself to test it for his lord. He plays a blue dragonborn, who actually has black scales because he begged really hard for the flavor change, who is also a blue draconic bloodline sorcerer for maximum lightning. His character is the heir to an ancient kingdom, who is mostly adventuring purely for his own amusement, and is named... Dralleus...  Maconia... No one exactly knews what to say, but Sebek is at least having fun, and honestly he isn’t bad at either mechanics or roleplaying... so everyone just kinds of ignores it.

More from my aviation multiverse where the BAe-146 was used by more airlines than what happened on our timeline. This time, it's Ozark. GO GETTERS GO OZARK! ⁣ ⁣ In March 1972, St. Louis-based Ozark Air Lines began to use De Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otters on passenger services between Springfield, Illinois, and Chicago's lakefront Meigs Field in competition to a similar service started by the commuter airline Air Illinois. Ozark's services only lasted one year due to financial losses primarily due to high crew salaries- Ozark's pilot contract did not have provisions for proportionally lower wages for flying smaller aircraft.⁣ ⁣ It was one of several attempts by local service carriers to fly smaller aircraft to smaller markets (it was also tried by West Coast/Air West, Frontier, and Texas International as well.⁣ ⁣ Suppose Chicago Meigs Field became something like today's London City Airport instead of getting bulldozed in the middle of the night? Suppose Ozark's original Meigs Field services stayed viable and by the 1980s, Ozark used the quiet STOL capabilities of the BAe-146 to fly into Meigs Field? In our alternate history, Ozark would have a fleet of BAe-146s to support services direct into close-in Meigs Field from points throughout Ozark's network. Imagine that sort of Chicago- with commercial air service from O'Hare, Midway *and* Meigs! ⁣ ⁣ Imagine the -200s operating denser routes like STL-CGX, DCA-CGX, LGA-CGX or DTW-CGX with the smaller -100 operating thinner routes like DSM-CGX, IND-CGX, or MCI-CGX. ⁣ ⁣ This illustration depicts both the BAe-146-100 and BAe-146-200 as they might have looked in 1985 in Ozark's final colors before their acquisition by TWA in 1986. ⁣ ⁣ Learn about real world BAe-146s! ⁣ www.lajeteepress.com⁣ "Fighting to be Heard: How the British Aerospace 146 Started the Regional Jet Revolution" by Brian Wiklem! ⁣ GET UP AND GO! Best Earl of Sandwiches Ranked
As of 1/2/2020, there are currently 33 operating earl of sandwich locations in the US. Here is a list of the Best EoS locations I’ve visited in my opinion:
1) Downtown Disney - The DT Disney location is the #1 location. (I know they were going to close it, but did they?) It provides a good affordable breakfast/late night sandwich option to all park goers and non park goers alike. And even though I was told that all bread was the same at all locations, this one has the best bread. They also used to accept my AAA card for a discount same as the annual pass holders.
2) Planet Hollywood - It’s open ALL THE TIME. Makes for great late night drunky sandwiches. I took my family from Hawaii here and they LOVED it. Also not the most expensive EoS in Vegas.
3) LAX - You can find this location right before TSA in the international terminal. The reason why this is #3 is mainly for convenience. My boyfriend one time almost missed our flight running over to the International Terminal to get us sandwiches, despite the TSA security guard telling him he’d be playing it close. Super romantic. (He made it back for our flight, dont worry.)
4) Disney Springs, Florida - This is high on the list because it’s located towards the entrance of Disney Springs, which also means you’re most likely going to Disney World, and it was located right across from the Hilton Buena Vista Palace where I was staying. There’s ample seating and they carry breakfast before 11 AM like the Disneyland one.
5) DT San Jose - The parking situation down there needs to be better. I’ve had several sandwiches from here since they opened in the last year, however, I’ve only been inside once because I had to wait with the car. The quality of the sandwich though is better than LAX.
6) Boston Common - This is RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of the park. Like can you imagine? Walking through the park on a beautiful day, and thinking ‘what else could possibly make this stroll better?’ A beautiful sandwich, that’s what.
7) Flamingo - The cheapest EoS in Vegas. Seriously. If you’re staying down that way, there are very few reasons why you shouldnt get one.
8) Newark Airport - Okay so we had about an hour stopover on that same trip we took to Boston and took a United shuttle to the terminal that had an EoS. It was easy and it came with a bag of chips. And we made our flight. If you’re in the Newark airport, this is a great pre-flight snackeroo.
9) Caesars Palace - I am not about to pay $10+ for an EoS unless my feet are about to fall off from walking so much, I’m drunk, I’m starving, and it’s either too hot/cold to go outside. However, this location is here to serve you if you are one of these people. Or if money is not an object.
10) Philadelphia Airport - They are located near the Delta Sky lounge in the terminal I was in and I had been traveling ALL DAY. It was a lackluster looking location, but I was ready for a sandwich. I ordered my usual, Tuna Melt, and it came out quickly. The bread was hot and the filling was generous. However, when I bit into it, the inside of the tuna melt was cold! I have never had that happen before. The deary store front I could forgive, but not a hot sandwich with a cold inside.
Honorable Mention: RIP EoS at the North Terminal of DTW (Detroit airport). You were convenient and made the sadder side of the airport much brighter, even though you did not participate in the rewards program.
Last time I went to Disneyland Paris, they DID NOT have an EoS there. I’ve passed the one in NYC, but was too tempted by all the other good eateries. Also, what sandwich to get? The tuna melt is the best. The chicken chipotle is easiest to travel with (get the dressing/sauce on the side). Their breakfast sandwiches and mac and cheese are also solid too.

I wish you would write a fic where Ben gets pissed off and fights someone cuz usually that's tyb or cutio so it'd be cool to see ben be angry
Mmmyeees. You sent me a DTW prompt long ago with basically that premise, and I love it and have saved it and will write it. I love angry Ben, really. Its a favorite of mine to imagine him being the type who takes a long time to actually get angry, but when he had managed to cross that line he will be freaking furious and merciless and scary. You know, the 'beware of the quiet/kind one' trope? That's Benvolio for me.

About: Day 2 of valentwst with Ace! Using prompts Rain + “You look good in my colors.”
💝 Where you got caught in some bad weather while playing with the hedgehogs in Heartslabyul.
Tumblr media
“Sheesh, did one of the Diasomnia students lose their temper or something?” You muttered, glancing out the windows as lightning flashed. The rain was thundering against the glass, and you’d just escaped said rain just a few minutes ago as you were rushed indoors by Ace.
Ace threw a towel at you, saying something about how you’d catch a cold if you stayed a mess like that. Letting out an offended huff, you made your way to his side and peeked over to see what he was searching for in his closet.
“What the– Why are you still here?!”
“What?” You looked at him like he’d grown two heads. “Where else would I go? You’re the one that dragged me to your room!”
“Just,” Ace stopped himself, turning to hastily fish out a coat and shirt and shoving them into your arms. Before you could protest otherwise, he was already pushing you back out and giving you directions to the showers. “You’ll get sick if you stay like that, and I don’t need Trey or Cater on my ass for not being hospitable or whatever.”
He quickly shut the door on you before burying his face in his hands. When he noticed that someone was still with the hedgehogs while the storm was brewing, Ace simply thought they were an idiot and was going to continue on with his day.
Then you stepped out of the roofed area and straight into the rain, and it hit him that it was his idiot out there, doing Seven knows what in the worst weather they’ve had this term.
Imagine his dumbfoundedness when the first thing you said to him was not a greeting nor a thank you, but rather a concern about a hedgehog that you spotted escaping into the wilderness. Ace almost felt his sanity slipping as you blatantly disregarded your safety and continued to search for the animal, insisting that you couldn’t leave it to fend for itself.
He found it admirable that you were such a caring person, but at times like these Ace really wished you could be more self-centered. He’s going to age twice as fast like this – he can feel it in his bones. Finally regaining his strength, Ace picked a random set of clothes and set off to the showers himself. Seeing as he was roped into the rescue of one hedgehog, he too was drenched from the rain earlier.
A quick spell was used to dry off your clothes to prevent trekking water into the dorm, but that was far from enough to properly freshen up. Hopefully Riddle wouldn’t put up a fuss about this, seeing as it was for an animal’s sake.
By the time he was done, Ace assumed you’d either returned to his room or was somewhere else in the dorm, seeing as the storm hadn’t let up yet. When he turned the doorknob to his room and pushed open the door, Ace was greeted by the sight of you drying your hair.
What he wasn’t mentally prepared for was seeing you in his clothes – he wasn’t paying attention to what he grabbed at first, but it seemed that it was just another version of his uniform. The blazer was pretty comfortable though, so he wasn’t too concerned about that. Rather, a ridiculous part of him was both embarrassed and proud of the sight.
Clearly, in reaction to said emotions, Ace did what came easiest – which was putting on a mask of calm as he entered and sat on the other end of his bed.
“You know, this actually isn’t so bad.” He started talking before his brain could catch up. “You look good in my colors.”
It took him a second too late to realize exactly what he said.

Finally finished!
Sorry I’ve been away and it took me so long to finish this. After the holidays I got caught up in work and I was also stuck about how to end the story.
As I’ve mentioned, I’m new to DTWS and the ship. And even if I watch all sorts of reality shows and other programmes I’ve never been so touched by a relationship that I’ve been driven to participate in the Tumblrs and even come up with fics!
But S&J really just captured me because of their insane chemistry and connection. And all your posts about that last fateful day together just got my imagination going.
I can’t believe that J never made it to the tour. I sort of hate him for it. But in our version maybe there will be a different ending.
I still hope that S&J find the right conclusion to their story - whether it is an end or just a beginning.
It’s been lovely to see the community cheer for these two and together let’s see what else will unfold. As we said in the story... maybe one day.

In less than two years, I traveled to 9 different airports, and boarded a plane 20 times. Every airport and country was unique of course, from the glamor of the Charles de Gaulle to the organized chaos of Najaf. Every experience has been so different. But the last trip I made back home was the worst. Can you imagine a day lasting 30 hours? Because that’s how long that day was for me.
It started off first when I had to say my good-byes to my husband before my parents and I departed. Every day leading up to the last, we couldn’t imagine the moment that we had to leave each other. And when it happened it was unbearable. But we had to go. It was 2 am. We got onto the plane, and 10 minutes before departure, my mom started passing out. She hadn’t eaten in 12 hours and had very low blood sugar, but we didn’t know that at that moment so it was just pure panic. The flight crew got her food and a kind lady in front of us gave my mom some medicine for nausea. Though I had planned to sleep that 4 hour flight, I refused to shut my eyes until I knew my mom was okay. We landed in Paris 6 am and I was exhausted. So exhausted that I didn’t pay attention to the fact that my flight to London was different than my parents’ flight. After boarding a plane more than a dozen times in the passed year, it was a stupid mistake.
So I missed my flight. Not knowing what to do, we went to customer service and they said the only flight available was to D.C. at 1 pm, which would mean I had to wait another 4 hours in Paris alone while my parents and my luggage were en route to London and then Detroit. As my mom was boarding their flight she was upset that she had to leave me alone, and I was too. But I had to put on a brave face and reassure her that I’ve traveled alone before and that I can take care of myself. So I got my new ticket and waited. But here was the tricky part: I was told that when I arrive in D.C., I had 3 hours to switch airports that were 30 miles apart. That was on my mind the entire time. I used the internet mostly to search ways to get to the next airport as fast as I could, or if it was even possible to do so. I was also worried about having a recurrence of this massive and scary headache I had on a previous flight. A headache so bad I seriously thought I was going to die. So I kept checking, double-checking, and triple-checking that I had medication. I was so stressed, but having traveled alone several times before I knew I could handle it. A few bumps along the road are okay as long as Allah is watching.
While waiting in line to board, I momentarily noticed a bag that had hebrew on it. But I didn’t notice the person holding it. I looked down the entire time because I was afraid of making eye contact with anyone that would judge me for the hijab on my head. I tried my best to keep a happy face on. To get to the gate, we had to board a bus to the plane. I put my carry-on luggage in the back of the bus. I got on and decided to stand next to some seats while holding on to a pole for balance. The girls sitting next to me were the only ones talking on the bus, and their voices carried. Suddenly one of them got a notification of an attack in Tel Aviv by a Muslim, and she started saying “OMG I was just there!” In that moment, I realized that she was the one with the Hebrew bag. I felt instantly uncomfortable. But I stayed silent. I tried to block out her words, but I couldn’t help but hear that “they are so aggressive”. I knew what “they” meant. I felt all eyes on me on that bus. It was not a good feeling. But I stayed silent.
When we arrived to the gate of the plane, I had to wait until everyone left the bus so I could grab my luggage from the back. I was the second to last person boarding the flight, and I was beyond exhausted. A man and his wife and child were in front of me blocking the way while putting away their luggage and getting their seats ready. So I waited. But I was nervous because from what I saw, everyone was seated, which made me worried that there would be no room left for my luggage anywhere. Just another thing for me to worry about. The man and his wife took their time, but when they apologized for taking so long I smiled and said “it’s okay”. Finally, they sat down, and I walked a few steps before seeing a woman walking in the opposite direction. I let her through to her seat, and because I was looking down, I never noticed the man that was right behind her. So I took one step and felt an elbow on my chest push against me. I looked up and saw the tall man point to his left and say “Um. My seat is right there.” The man just pushed me with his elbow because his seat was right there. I don’t care if I was running into the guy willingly, he should have not pushed me the way he did. I let him through to his seat and said “You didn’t have to push me.” And then I walked away. I don’t know if he heard. Sound waves don’t travel very far inside of an airplane, at least from my experiences. But it didn’t matter.I found my seat and of course, just as I thought, there was no room for my luggage. So they put it in a fridge-type thing. I didn’t care.
All I wanted to do was cry. Cry because I missed my husband. Cry because my parents were hundreds of miles away from me. Cry because a zionist was next to me. Cry because a man pushed me. Cry because I just wanted to go home. So I cried until the plane reached the clouds.
I fell asleep for a little while and awoken to the sound of the flight attendant walking past me. Two African men were sitting next to me, and I asked one of them if the flight attendant was passing out headphones. He said he was. Then he asked “You want one?” I told him that it was okay, but before I could he yelled out, “EXCUSE ME!” to the flight attendant. He came back and gave me a pair of headphones. After being pushed by a man, it was nice to see some kindness. I fell in and out of sleep the entire 8-hour flight, wondering and worrying about if I was going to arrive on time to get to the other airport in D.C.
When I finally arrived in the U.S., I was  about 20 hours into my trip. And I wasn’t home yet. I reached D.C. about 5 pm, and I had about 3 and half hours to go through customs, drive 30 miles to the next airport, and board my final flight to DTW. Going through customs they always ask a few questions, but I realized that if I ask questions in return, then they won’t ask as many questions back. I asked two officers what would be the fastest way to get to the Reagan airport and if 3 hours was enough time to board my next flight. “Outside the airport you can get a taxi, but you gotta leave like, right now.” So I went as fast as I could. My taxi driver thankfully turned out to be a Somalian Muslim who disliked Trump and planned to leave the country once he was elected. Can you blame him?
He drove me to the airport just in time to board my flight. I even had a little bit of time to wait next to the gate. A women at the gate desk asked if anyone wanted to check their carry-ons because there probably wouldn’t be enough room on the plane. So I checked my bag, and my bag boarded the flight. But the thing is…
I didn’t. The day wasn’t over yet.
When they scanned my ticket, my name was showing up, but it wasn’t validated or something? I have no clue. I kept telling the lady that I just want to go home. I said I had to teach first graders the next day. I was begging. After what I had been through, begging seemed very appropriate. But they wouldn’t let me on. I asked if there was another flight. She said not with Delta, but American Airlines had a flight at 10 pm. I asked if there was any room on the flight, they said I had to check at the AA ticket counter and I had to move fast. So I walked as fast as I could. I was panting as I asked the woman behind the ticket counter if they had any seats left for the last flight to Detroit. She said that there was one left, but because I was buying it late it was going to be expensive. I handed her my card. I had to go home.
I went through security for the 5th and final time that day. I got to my gate an hour before my flight. I was so worried that my boarding pass wouldn’t work that I went to the gate desk and asked if they could double check that it would work. They said they couldn’t check until boarding. So I waited. But I prayed that there was no more. There was still a little bit more.
My boarding pass worked alhamdulillah, and I got on the tiny plane. I had the first seat, which to me meant that I would be the first one out when the plane lands. Then I fell asleep. An hour later, I woke up. And I was still in D.C. What was happening? Apparently something was wrong with the bathroom. The captain said it would be about 15 minutes. So I waited. And I cried some more. I just wanted to go home. It was 11:30 pm, and the captain came out and asked everyone if they would rather we change planes which would take a couple of hours, or that we go through the entire 90 minute flight without using the bathroom. We all agreed to hold our bladders.
When I finally landed at 1 am in Detroit, I ran out to see if anyone of my family members were there. There was nobody. My phone’s battery had died, so I asked two strangers that I saw on the plane if I could borrow their phone. Then I found an outlet to charge my phone. Turns out my family went to the airport three different times thinking I would be home, but I never came. So they stayed home until I called them. I waited another 20 minutes for my sister to pick me up.
And the bag that I checked? It came before I did on the Delta flight. So before I went home, I had to go to their luggage office and look in a room full of over 200 pieces of luggage until I spotted mine. Then, finally, I was home. I decided to skip half a day of work the next day because I was not ready to go in that morning.
4 hour trip to Paris, 8 hour layover, 8 hour trip to D.C., another 6 ½ hour layover, and 2 ½ hours until I reached home. I left Beirut at 2 am, and arrived home 2 am. But factor in the time differences. If you do the math, what was supposed to be an 18 hour trip turned into 30 hours. That’s a long day. And that was the worst day. Inshallah I never have to go through that again.
