DS9 2x13 Armageddon Game thoughts (rewatching, so possible future spoilers)
Julian does seem to like monologuing XD
Miles giving Julian all the credit and Julian being so reluctant to accept it - my heart, I cannot!
"I suppose another day won't kill me" ...but it almost will! Foreshadowing!
Miles saving Julian when he had been well-hidden and Julian very much wasn't!
These officials are very good at lying, I'll give them that
Callback to Miles' defence of rations earlier in the season XD
Oh, he's ever the doctor and I love how consistently that shows
And I love it how Miles' experience is coming out with him knowing that the best thing is not to move
Aw, Julian biting his lip after offering to help: knowing he's an augment, this can definitely be seen as him deciding to put a more unusual skill he shouldn't have out there, possibly rising exposure, for it be dismissed
I'm glad we're shown how upset and shaken the crew are at the news of death. Their faces in Sisko's office are just... <3
This whole conversation Julian and Miles are having about women isn't quite banter, but it would be if they were friends. I really don't know if Julian is winding Miles up on purpose to get his mind off the situation, knowing what he's doing, or if he is just an idiot.
( Though ngl, my Julian/Miles addled mind is reading this as Julian totally overcompensating to cover up his massive crush on Miles by going on about women.)
Doctor Julian is best Julian
KEIKO MY BELOVED I wish you didn't have to feel this way
I am SO curious what is in Julian's diary. I suppose even in a diary - especially presumably one on a PADD - he wouldn't even hint at his augmentations, given the risk of discovery.
"I suppose I should send them to his parents..." - No, you reallly shouldn't.
I love how proud Jadzia is whenever Quark is thoughtful. That expression definitely feels like she's showing off to Kira: "See, Ferengi are actually good too!"
Also I'm noticing far more snippets of Jadzia and Kira just hanging out and supporting each other and being friends <3 Not sure why I didn't see this ship before but it has my entire heart now.
Keiko persuading them the footage is suspicious is all so much funnier knowing she's wrong about the coffee. Although WHAT a good job she was!
Huh, initially Miles was describing the components to Julian (dark blue coil beside the green cylinder), but now he's moved fto calling them by name (subprocessor, RFoscillators). Either Julian has faked learning quickly otr let on how much he knows about electronics.
Julian really doesn't want to listen to Miles' thinking he'll die - but even less to Miles talking about Keiko...
Oh, I've just remembered why they tried to kill them!
"The T'Lani and Kellerun have finally made peace" - and boy, what a way to ensuring it survives, iirc....
Julian's complete bafflement at the lengths they were willing to go. He cannot understand killing innocent people at all!
"I'm sorry I didn't get us home, Chief." And he probably feels responsible, too, seeing that he ended up being the one to make the radio and contact the T'Lani.
"You did your best. It's been an honour serving with you." MY HEART.
Oooh, not home and dry yet, a space race!
I can't believe they'd risk a BIGGER war against the Federation to protect their peace?! They're not thinking this through very thoroughly, are they.
Idk why, but this fight scene has very TOS energy to me
Clever clever clever! Took me a second to figure out after the runabout exploded, but I got there before the T'Lani did so I'm pleased with that :P
Oh, Julian's so genuine and sweet, he just wants to be friends and have Miles like him
I can understand your time alone with him being hell seeing as you were dying, but you're definitely overexaggerating how bad Julian was, Miles
That reveal is still a favourite. What a twist XD
O'BRIEN: You know, I wouldn't mind a cup of coffee right now. KEIKO: Miles, you never drink coffee in the afternoon. O'BRIEN: Sure I do. KEIKO: You do?
I really love this episode. What a banger.

[tv review] ds9 2x11-13 (1994)
2x11 “rivals”
the plots intersect, but: o’brien vs. bashier @ racquetball > quark vs. what’s-his-face @ capitalism. i really appreciate the slow burn of their bromance.
i also liked actually seeing keiko & miles interacting in a way that suggests they at least like each other? and cutting back & forth between their conversation and bashir & dax’s conversation about the same racquetball game was a cute bit of parallel structure.
other than that, this episode is super meh. i neither like nor dislike it. c-rank
2x12 “the alternate”
fuck off with this abuse apologism. d-rank
2x13 “armageddon game”
this is one of those plots that easily could’ve fit into either ds9 or tng, and frankly probably would’ve made slightly more sense for tng? so hilariously the title makes it sound like a tos episode.
but yeah, to employ a metaphor sisko would approve of, just a right over the middle of the plate star trek episode. the peril & politics of the situation are both very star trekky, the investigation including doctored security footage is textbook golden age trek stuff, and the cute twist at the end where sisko stalls the bad guys by remote piloting one runabout while he & his officers are actually escaping on another runabout is simultaneously very in character for him and an extremely star trekky tactical move. we also get some continued advancement of the bashir/o’brien slow burn towards best friendship with the whole “it’s been an honor serving with you” stuff.
this isn’t an especially remarkable episode or anything, but sometimes all they have to be is solid & star trekky. b-rank

i love armageddon game (ds9 2x13) ‘cause the only thing they go on regarding that the security footage might be faked is keiko stating that “miles never drinks coffee in the afternoon” and then at the end of the ep it’s revealed he does drink coffee in the afternoon and shes just like “what the fuck what the fuck what the fu-”. it’s like using the wrong method and still getting the correct answer on a test and i love it

i really, really liked voyager 2x13 “prototype”. that was just some solid trek in the classic sense of the word.
i also read some smokin’ hot paris/kim fanfic last night! just out of curiosity! though it was weird because it was the first star trek pairing i’ve ever read that didn’t involve aliens. maybe the first fanfic pairing in like, 8 years that i’ve read that didn’t involve nonhumans somehow (yes like everyone else left on this site i was obsessed with good omens last year). sorry but i’m an alien f*cker through and through!
(i’d def ship janeway/chakotay if it didn’t make me so upset that the writers just didn’t go there. i already have that problem with fully enjoying garashir and there were way more obstacles with that one.)
i still don’t like this show as much as DS9, but i’m gonna get through it! once these ugly ass kazon fuckers fuck off!!

Season 2, Episode 13, Armageddon Game. When Miles realizes that if Julian is ever going to learn normal social skills, he’s going to have to teach him and begins the long, torturous process. Results will be mixed but overall positive, and we all thank him.

STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE // S2E13 Armageddon Game As long as the knowledge exists, there's a danger it may be used. That's a risk we refuse to live with.

Mmm they should have had something more substantial than ‘Miles never drinks coffee in the afternoon’. I just don’t buy Sisko buying into the idea of the footage alteration that easily.

In DS9 2x13, Julian calls Miles "Chief" EIGHTEEN TIMES.
Granted, they spent most of the episode talking to each other - but two episodes later when stuck on a planet together in Paradise, Sisko only calls him that four times...
Idk we all know Julian talks a lot but that really made me chuckle

A few more thoughts (because I'm thinking of writing a fic and going through this with a fine tooth comb)
In a timeline where the Klingons' surveillance device had never been discovered, would DS9 and the Wormhole not have been destroyed due to the Klingons' having surveillance?
Julian is a lot more okay with Miles' "There's a message in my quarts for Keiko if-" than he was in 2x13 Armageddon Game with his "You must tell Keiko and Molly-". Idk, in Armageddon Game I don't think he really thought Miles would survive, and was desperately trying to convince himself otherwise - here I don't know if he's accepted that it's at least not a pointless death, or if he mostly thinks Miles will come back and so doesn't have to worry quite so much.
After reading several fanfics, I now notice that Julian closes his eyes before throwing the dart - I guess to make it fair? Because he knows he could hit a twenty with ease if he didn't? But ALSO - isn't this changing the future? Because in the past, Julian would not have closed his eyes.
What happened to Miles' body in the present timeline when he died in the future timeline?
DS9 3x17 Visionary thoughts (I'm re-watching, so there may be future spoilers)
This is the one where Miles keeps seeing himself dying? #MilesO'BrienMustSuffer
"Light duty means light." They know O'Brien well XD
It's always surprising but nice when you hear an alien talk in an alien language.
This looked like the guards releasing the Romulans only when Sisko turned up - are visitors usually kept in their ships until the command team arrive? Haven't noticed that before.
The Romulans' shoulders are hilariously big.
Love how we see the progression of the Darts Board from cargo bay last episode to bar this one. Did O'Brien want to get in practice before getting more people involved?
Quark throwing all the darts before Miles can stop him, the Chief's terrified "No!", and them landing on a nonplussed Morn - beautiful.
"My doors are always open to you, Chief." :3
I thought the cloaking device had turned out to be a private loan? Oh, I can't keep up.
"They also want access to our personal logs!" I love Kira's outraged voice
"This is one puppet who doesn't like her strings pulled."We know, Kira. And I love you for it.
"And Major, when you're in with the Romulans, try to be diplomatic." "I'm always diplomatic." ... I'm betting this is not going to end diplomatically XD In next scene, even!
CALLED IT.
"That is the most RIDICULOUS thing I ever heard, and I resent the implication!" Watch out, it's going to get more "ridiculous"
"Has Odo ever shown some kind of physical interest in you, Major?"" That's it. You rip the cloaking device out of the Defiant right now." I love her I love her I lover her. She has no cool with annoying people and it's wonderful.
"If it makes you feel any better I'll beat you at another ten games." I love how now they've introsuced the darts board it's in every episode.
Miles' smirk at himself for saving his life
"You're going to be fine." "No, I'm not. In a few hours I'm going to be dead."
"You think Quark had something to do with this?" Odo's outrage as though he's been personally affronted. "I always investigate Quark!"
"Well, it could've been worse. It could've been me." XD
It's really interesting how Julian acts upon seeing O'Brien. It's almost detached, he barely shows any sign of having been upset while he's spouting medical jargon until he says "before... this happens". And then stares at the body for a few seconds until Miles starts ribbing him about letting him die. His reactions to Bareil dying and being alive again a few episodes ago seemed much more visible, but I can imagine that for the last few hours he's been burying himself in professionalism and refusing to acknowledge his emotions about Miles being dead.
"But then I contacted a friend at Starfleet Intelligence who used to be assigned to the Federation Embassy on the Klingon Homeworld. He put me in contact with a former Klingon operative who's out of favour with the current administration. This former operative sent me a series of reports." This is so similar to Odo's Carrington Award gossip XD
"Sometimes I have to remind you just how good I am." XD Was that what he was doing last episode, too?
"There is no careful way to question a Klingon."
"I, I haven't given up. I won't give up." Oh, Miles <3 It's gonna be okay!
I love how things keep escalating in the future. The universe really seems to want Miles dead today - it's lucky he had the time-travelling accident, really, or he would be dead, right?
He didn't faint this time!
The Miles-swap is so weiiird. This O'Brien will have slightly different memories.... That's odd as anything
Why are shields not always up? Does it just take too much energy or something? It just seems like it would be a good thing to be able to do?
"Why that's remarkable." Julian could hit any number he wanted. Did he try and aim for something else and miss? Was 20 the number he already had in mind, he just delayed his reaction?
"Quark. Dabo." "Dabo?" Miles' chuckle XD
Does everyone have super good memories? Miles remembering Julian's first throw and exactly when a dabo would happen? Bc right now it would make sense for Miles to have an augment background too xD
