Today We Remember: Kyle, Emma and Katie Coble

Kyle, Emma and Katie were born to Chris and Lori Coble in Thousand Oaks, California.

Kyle Christopher Coble

May 3rd, 2002-May 4th, 2007

Kyle was described as a very outgoing and caring kid who had a huge love for life and lived it to the fullest from the moment he woke up till the moment he fell asleep. He loved school, T-ball, soccer, Spiderman, riding his bike or scooter, and his many friends and family.

Emma Lynn Coble

April 16th, 2003-May 4th, 2007

Emma was described as quiet but brave. She was always willing to try new things, whether it was eating what her parents were having for dinner or riding the biggest rollercoaster at the amusement park. She loved princesses, riding her bike, playing dress-up, school, dancing, and her dad, whom she had a close relationship with.

Katie Gene Coble

March 6th, 2005-May 4th, 2007

Katie was very independent and outgoing and described as a mommy's girl. She was always wanting to whatever her older siblings were doing. She was learning how to talk in full sentences and was able to ride a tricycle at just a year old. She also loved giving hugs and kisses to her family.

The Day That Changed Everything

On May 4th, 2007, the day after Kyle's 5th birthday, the kids went to a local mall to ride the Ferris Wheel, the Carousel, and do some shopping, with their mom and grandmother. Nap time was around the corner, so the kids were strapped into their car seats and their mom started to drive for home. On the way, they got stopped in California traffic. The last thing that their mom, Lori, remembered was looking in the back seats while the car was stopped. Kyle was playing on his new Nintendo DS that he received as a birthday gift the day before, Emma was watching a movie, and Katie was starting to fall asleep and Lori started tickling her toes so she would be able to nap when they got home.

While waiting for the traffic to light up, a 18-wheeler carrying 20 tons of electronics, was speeding and crashed into the back of the Coble's minivan at 55 mph. Lori's mom, Cindy, remembers hearing the bending and cracking of the car during the crash and the ambulances and firetruck sirens. Because of the severity of the injuries, Lori and her mom were taken to one hospital, Kyle and Katie were taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, and Emma was taken to Saddleback Memorial Hospital in Laguna Hills.

Chris Coble was at work when he got the phone call about the car crash. He rushed to Mission Hospital where the doctor was waiting for him to arrive. The doctor told Chris that Katie died shortly after 2 pm. Then Chris' cellphone rang and it was the doctor from Saddleback. The first thing that Chris said on the phone was "Please tell me Emma is ok?" and the doctor told him that unfortunately Emma had died. Chris dropped the phone and was completely devastated.

Lori woke up in the hospital to Chris by her side. Lori asked if the kids were okay. Chris had the unfortunate duty of telling her that Emma and Katie had died. Lori then asked about Kyle and Chris told her that Kyle survived the crash, but he had to have brain surgery. Lori then told Chris to go be with Kyle, as she didn't want him to be scared.

Chris then headed back to Mission Hospital where he spent one final moment with Katie, holding her and brushing her hand. Afterward, he went to go be with Kyle. The doctors discovered that his brain stem had separated from being hit so hard in the crash. When Chris entered the room, he saw that Kyle's eyes were partially open. Chris breathed a huge sigh of relief, thinking that Kyle was alright. But the doctors told him that he's been declared brain dead and there was no chance of him surviving. After Lori entered the room, Chris told her everything and they had to make a decision. Ultimately, they decided to end Kyle's suffering and take him off life support. That night, they sat Lori up in a wheelchair and placed Kyle in her arms while Chris held his hand, spending Kyle's final moments on earth. Lori and Chris told Kyle that they loved him and that Emma and Katie were waiting for him in Heaven. Kyle died at 8:52 pm.

Lori and Chris Coble went through a long time of mourning and grief. But after a few months, they decided to try to have more kids. After going through IVF treatments, Lori gave birth to triplets (2 girls and 1 boy) on April 30th, 2008. They named them Jake Christopher, Ashley Lynn, and Ellie Gene Coble, giving them the same middle names as Kyle, Emma, and Katie. Chris and Lori sees the triplets' births as a gift from Kyle, Emma, and Katie and a huge miracle.

The truck driver, Jorge Romero, was charged with 3 counts of vehicular manslaughter and was sentenced to 1 year in jail. Yet after all that they've been through, Lori and Chris chose to forgive the truck driver that changed their lives forever. They also filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the California Department of Transportation, claiming the highway exit the car was in at the time was a dangerous one. They unfortunately lost the case and ordered to pay nearly $3,000 in legal fees.

Chris and Lori Coble still grieve for Kyle, Emma and Katie, but continue to honor them through toy drives and spreading awareness on traffic safety. They know that their children are looking down on them and their triplets, giving them comfort and hope, and one day they will see Kyle, Emma and Katie again.

That's a nice theory but no. They just effed up the casting for the little boy. I remember Danai saying that her sister was wondering how two DS people could produce such a LS curly headed boy (genetic aside since on TV we go by visuals) and Nicotero was really surprised by that because he found nothing weird or wrong with that casting.

They casted some Judith with blue eyes too, blond and blue eyed looking like neither Shane nor Lori and when asked about that, the producers admitted that they didn't actually think that far while casting them.

Ok, need your opinion about this.  It’s way out there, but I haven’t been able to shake it, so here goes.  In the episode of After, we get a flashback of Michonne’s former life in a dream sequence.  We finally see Mike, Terry, and Andre.  Well, has anyone ever wondered how Mike and Michonne could reproduce a child with Andre’s skin tone?  I know genetics can be funny, but it made me think back to some comments from Robert Kirkman.  He made mention that Michonne’s dream may not be what it really appears to be to us.  That there may be other elements in the dream that come into play.  He didn’t use those exact words, but I got his meaning.  Anyway, could Andre in her dream represent a future child with Rick?  Sometimes things in your dreams aren’t what you think they are at all.  It’s ok to tell me I’m crazy.  This obsession with Rick and Michonne is making me this way, but just thought I’d put this out there.  Interesting to anyone?

Tiga pelajar yang disyaki memukul seorang junior di sebuah asrama sekolah menengah, di sini, direman empat hari bermula hari ini. Perintah tahanan reman hingga Ahad ini terhadap ketiga-tiga suspek berusia 17 tahun itu dikeluarkan oleh Majistret Mohd Zul Zakiquddin Zulkifli. (Tak pasti sama ada tiga pelajar yang direman itu adalah pelajar yang sama dalam video di atas). Mereka direman bagi membantu siasatan mengikut Seksyen 506 Kanun Keseksaan kerana ugutan jenayah dan Seksyen 323 Kanun Keseksaan kerana dengan sengaja menyebabkan kecederaan. Terdahulu, kesemua pelajar Tingkatan Lima itu tiba di pekarangan Mahkamah Majistret dengan menaiki lori polis pada jam 9 pagi tadi. Media sebelum ini melaporkan dalam kejadian petang kelmarin, seorang pelajar Tingkatan Satu dipukul tiga pelajar sekolah sama yang dikatakan berang kerana dipermainkan dengan gurauan berkaitan belanja makan. Ketua Polis Kelantan, Deputy Komisioner Shafein Mamat, dipetik berkata justeru mangsa berusia 13 tahun itu membuat laporan polis, semalam, sebelum tangkapan dilakukan.  Berdasarkan rakaman video berdurasi 25 saat yang tular sejak semalam, mangsa dipukul bertubi-tubi, termasuk ditumbuk dan disepak, dalam insiden itu. - BH

What is behind Moodin's strategy? 

Why is he releasing all the frogs n tadpoles out into the Sabah ponds? It might be a "heads I win, Tails u lose" strategy. either way Moodin wins. Although it may look chaotic n unwinnable, in the end Moodin might be the Biggest Winner like a fisherman casting his net far n wide to catch all the frogs n tadpoles alike. how? But first he has to make sure ABU (Anyone but Umno) ie. UMNO lose as many seats as possible, coz UMNO is the biggest threat to Moodin n Bersatu's survival in W Msia. Assuming PN n UMNO win 50% of their seats ie each win 15 seats +/- 2 (total will be 30+) but neither Bersatu or UMNO can claim the CM seat (seems fair enough). That's where Musa comes in w his collections of frogs and tadpoles rounded up w his dragnet with 10 -20 seats. it will be a sure bet that Anifah Aman (Musa Aman's brother) w even a few seats wud join the grand coalition w Moodin and UMNO, to be the next Sabah CM. Musa Aman will be rewarded a Federal minister post, n appt'd a senator. That way, Moodin ensures that Sabah will not be controlled by UMNO to ensure that UMNO is in no position to challenge Moodin for the PMship or seat allocations for GE-15. But if Warisan wins between 20 - 30 seats.... not enough to be outright CM ..... Moodin will extend an olive branch out to Shafie. Join PN n still be CM. that way Sabah will still be under Moodin's govt. But what if Warisan wins big w a bigger majority, enough to continue to rule Sabah under Warisan Plus? then Moodin will not call for GE-15, n use all sorts of pressure, to "move mountains" ie. get Warisan to team up w PN. Otherwise, more tragedies like the 1976 Double Tragedy or 2015 Nothing-2-hide Sabah Mv6 quake will hit Sabah again n again ... Or more frogs from Warisan plus be bought up until Warisan govt collapse again. n this time, they will ensure the Governor does not accede to Shafie's request to dissolve the State Assembly. This Moodin BDG is turning out to be most devilish n evil of all the past PMs combined. First MACC, now AGC 

going all out against me...

The comments by the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) on the two new charges against me for misappropriation of property, amounting to RM208.7 million under the penal code in relation to the tunnel and three highway project(tunnel project), has only reinforced public suspicion that the charges are politically motivated. First, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), and now the AGC is going all out against me with their comments that they are 99 percent sure of a conviction in line with the Perikatan Nasional's government new political strategy of "Ini semua salah Lim Guan Eng" (this is all Lim Guan Eng's fault). I had earlier faced three charges for corruption in relation to the tunnel project even though no corruption or gratification money was found in my personal bank account or in my possession as cash. And yet I am charged - "Ini semua salah Lim Guan Eng". The tunnel project was granted by open tender in 2013 decided by the Penang State Tender Board headed by the state secretary and other senior government officers. And yet I am charged when I am not in the State Tender Board - "Ini semua salah Lim Guan Eng". The payment of RM208 million decided by land swap is in accordance with the agreement signed between the state government and contractor decided by the exco and other technical committees. And yet I am charged when I was not the only one making the decision on the agreement - "Ini semua salah Lim Guan Eng". The decision to pay RM 208 million was made after recommendation by an independent expert engineering consultant to senior government officers. The independent consultant was appointed by open tender. Despite not making the recommendation or decision to pay because I am not an engineer, yet I am the one charged - "Ini semua salah Lim Guan Eng". My lawyers can not understand why the AGC is so intent on transferring my case to Kuala Lumpur, even though the charges against me allegedly occurred from beginning to end, entirely in Penang. What is even more unusual is the belligerent remarks by the AGC against me.

DPP,Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin in maroon stripped tie...

Lead deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin boasted of a sure win with a 99 percent chance of conviction, and that the two new charges were the mother of all charges. This is not the mother of all charges. Instead, it is the mother of all PN's lies that "this is all Lim Guan Eng's fault". The DPP's remarks of a 99 percent conviction chance are inappropriate and have already prejudged me, even before my trial, that I am already guilty. Many have commented that the DPP's public statements are potentially dangerous, can destroy a person's reputation and prejudice my right to a fair trial. The latest two charges on Friday that I had misappropriated government property amounting to RM208 million is baseless and illogical when I had not taken any benefit. The land valued at RM208 million was payment in the form of a land swap in accordance with the agreement between the state government and the contractor. Further, the land was transferred after the final decision by the exco. If I am charged, then will this also lead to the preposterous conclusion that all exco members or the entire state government and its 10,000 staff will also have to be charged? - Lim Guan Eng

Penance isn't your typical thriller. I did enjoy the story, but at times the pacing lagged and it felt like an overload of tell me instead of show me. It truly is unique in its genre with multiple view points used, including the clueless and lovable Lori. She's very relatable, and her ignorance about the proverbial manhunt for her just heightens the tension as you watch the net slowly close from various sides. A great way to pass a few hours.

Marcy had never been more scared in her life. She truly believed he would have cut off one or both of her breasts if Paulie hadn’t walked in. There was nothing behind those eyes, no emotion, no caring, and no fear. Marcy had been around some scary guys in her life, including Tommy, his father, and some of the others. Tony was different. There didn’t seem to be any feeling behind his actions. No hesitation. No nothing.

She knew she had to reach out to JoJo and warn her that her worst freaking nightmare was heading her way. JoJo picked up on the first ring. There was a lot of noise in the background. Marcy held the phone slightly away from the side of her tender, bruised face.

“JoJo, this is Marcy, and you need to listen to me!” she blurted. “A guy named Tony, looked Italian, was just here, and scared the crap out of me! He’s crazy; broke my nose, cut my breasts and threatened to cut them off. I thought I was dead! He kept asking about Lori Doyle. I had to give him something. You’re next! He knows you work at Sallie O’s. Get out of there, while you can!” She was out of breath from talking so fast.

“Hey, thanks for the heads up, but an Italian in South Boston isn’t going to do very well. I’ll let my boss know and some of the regulars. They don’t like outsiders coming in here period, let alone stirring up shit.” JoJo sounded slightly sub­dued. Concerned, but not like her usual self; medicated maybe.

“JoJo, I was never more scared in my life! You be careful. You don’t know what he’s like. If you can get a message to Izzy, do it; she’s on his list too. Hey, I know you just lost Frankie and don’t need this mess but you’ve got to get away. This guy’s beyond crazy!” The whole thing replayed again in her mind and she felt like she might start crying again.

“Well, I’d like to see him go after Izzy. Izzy’s been hooked up with Tommy for a while now. Tommy can take care of himself,” JoJo said matter-of-factly.

“Please. Please JoJo, listen to me: he’s like nothing you’ve seen before! He’s an animal, no feelings, no fear! Please, you’ve got to get away now!”

Finally responding to the fear in Marcy’s voice, JoJo hes­itated. “Okay, Marcy…I’m glad you’re okay and I’m really grateful for the heads up. Really.” Marcy wracked her brain for the words to convince JoJo of the danger she was in. Before she found any, there was a click as JoJo terminated the call.

About the Author: Edward Daniel Hunt has an undergraduate degree from the University of New Haven and a graduate degree from Lesley University. Save the dates: Spring design calendar filled with home tours

Spring weekends in Houston are filled with home-related events, from home and garden shows to architecture and history tours and shopping events.

Design in Bloom brings a panel of national speakers to talk about architecture, design and, of course, floral design March 24. The following weekend is filled with home tours, ranging from modern homes to downtown lofts and more historic homes in Woodland Heights. Texas Antiques Week in Round Top is a shopper’s delight, and the April and May bring more home tours.

Get your calendar out; it’s time to save a few dates.

Home and Outdoor Living Shows

The TexWoods series of home and outdoor living shows is underway, with a new HTown event at Silver Street Studios in First Ward. Hours are 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Sundays. (Note: I’ll be a speaker at the HTown and Lake Houston shows, speaking about design styles each day at 12:30 p.m.) At all shows, admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors and children 12 and under are free. Here’s the spring lineup:

HTown: March 7-8 at Silver Street Studios at Sawyer Yards, 2000 Edwards. Speakers include Laura Dowling, who was the chief

Cy-Fair: March 21-22 at the Berry Center, 8877 Barker Cypress. Events include floral design workshops by Ashley Wallace of The Tallest Tulip.

Design in Bloom

This year’s Design in Bloom event, in conjunction with Texas Design Week, brings Flower magazine editor-in-chief Margot Shaw, Nashville interior designer Ray Booth, Atlanta architect Bobby McAlpine, Lexington, Ky., landscape architect Jon Carloftis and New York floral designer Lewis Miller together for panel discussions, book signings and floral demonstrations.

When: 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. March 24

Downtown Houston Home & Lifestyle Tour

The Houston Downtown Management District will hold its second annual home tour on March 28. The self-guided tour takes you into residences in Bayou Lofts, Commerce Towers, Camden Downtown, Franklin Lofts, Kirby Lofts on Main, St. Germain Lofts and Condos at The Star. Park at One Market Square Garage (800 Preston) for $5 and a courtesy shuttle will take you to participating properties. There will be live music 11 a.m.-2 p.m.at Market Square Park, a lobby tour of the Niels and Mellie Esperson Buildings from noon to 3 p.m. and pop-up art shows by Rachel Schwind Gardner and Felipe Lopez all day at Franklin Lofts.

MA+DS 10th annual Houston Modern Home Tour

While there’s plenty of traditional home construction under way, contemporary and modern homes are increasing in popularity and the Modern Architecture + Design Society’s annual tour will open six new examples of cutting-edge residential architecture to the public. Showcased architects include 2Scale Architects, studioMET, Intexure Architects and Boxprefab, On Point Custom Homes and Fifty Seventh + 7th by Carnegie Homes. It’s a great chance to meet the architects and designers who worked on the homes.

When: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. March 28

Woodland Heights Home Tour

Homes built from the 1910s through the 1920s plus a few more current construction will be among the eight open to the public on the annual Woodland Heights Home Tour. The neighborhood began in 1907 as a streetcar suburb to Houston’s downtown and was valued for its easy access to Highland Park — now called Woodland Park. The neighborhood is busier now, but retains much of its century-old charm.

When: noon-6 p.m. March 28-29

Texas Antiques Week

Round Top and surrounding small towns fill with visitors for Texas Antiques Week shopping that now lasts much longer than a week. Stalwarts such as the Original Round Top Antiques Fair and Marburger Farm Antique Show stagger their dates from March 30-April 4, but other shops, Excess Fields and pop-up tents open at least a couple of weeks prior. Head there early to avoid long lines of cars on Texas 237. Wear sunscreen and comfortable shoes and take cash since WiFi there is sketchy and vendors’ credit card apps don’t always work.

Rice Design Alliance Architecture Tour

Rice Design Alliance is still firming up its roster for the 2020 Architecture Tour, themed “Upwards.” This tour is always highly anticipated, featuring some of the most interesting homes in the city on timely topics. The alliance will share more information on homes and tickets soon, but for now you can set these dates aside.

When: 1-6 p.m. April 25-26

Milieu Designer Showhouse

Milieu magazine is hosting its first Designer Showhouse, a 7,400-square-foot Edwin Lutyens-style home built by Jennifer Hamelet Mirador Builders. Top designers from the U.S., Canada and Europe — including Kathryn Ireland, Lisa Fine, Carol Glasser and Jennifer Vaughn Miller — will design the interiors. Milieu, a luxury shelter and lifestyle magazine, was founded in 2013 by Houston interior designer Pamela Pierce. The showhome event will benefit Clayton Dabney for Kids with Cancer, a group that provides assistance to families with children who have cancer.

Galveston Historic Homes Tour

The Galveston Historical Foundation’s annual home tour is must for history buffs and for newcomers to the area who want to learn more about the Gulf Coast’s architectural history. Galveston is a tourism city now, but it was once a thriving port city where merchants built beautiful Victorian and Queen Anne-style homes, grand examples and bungalows, too. The 2019 tour had eight homes and the 2020 lineup should be announced soon.

When: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. May 2-3 and May 9-10
