20. What’s a common writing tip that you almost always follow?

This one is quite hard, I’m not really sure if there’s anything I’ll always follow without fail. Perhaps just making sure to do research into something before writing about it, especially if I’ve never experienced it before. Research is important :’) I guess another one would be to try and make time for writing every day. This doesn’t work for some people, but for me it really helps. Having a routine made me finish my novel; falling out of that routine has made me fall behind with editing and stalled my progress significantly.

Any suggestions? At least 50K. Preferably over 100K. Series are cool. Batfam is my first choice, but young justice, arrow fam, and flash fam are also cool. I don’t mind ships. There’s real, and there’s not real.

The postulate is so simple in theory, but shadowed by the empirical, it’s not real, improbable.

There are those of us that don’t like the real. Or, maybe it’s not that we don’t like the real. It’s that we don’t like when the real is outnumbered by the not real. Because when the not real outnumbers the real, the not real wraps around the real and chokes it like a weed a flower.

Tim doesn’t like the not real. He feels it creeping up and around his roots, lessening his water supply. He takes a breath, ignores the gnawing at his stem, acknowledges the bloom at the very top.

He sits in the Wayne Manor library, Dick at his feet. He’s not sure why he or Dick are here, considering they have their own homes and can go to other libraries or borrow the ones in the manor’s.

Dick’s hair tickles his sockless feet. He swallows several times and lets the saliva travel over the lump in his throat. He flips the crisp book page, listens to the paper run against its cousin. He sniffs, takes in the cinnamon tinged air.

Something’s wrong. Something’s so very wrong.

The unreal is creeping in.

The room around him tightens along with the weed that’s turning into a noose.

He tries to breathe like he did a mere minute ago, but all that comes out is a choked sob.

Tim is crying. He doesn’t know why. He wipes tears from his eyes as more gush out and sniffles. He can’t breathe.

Something’s wrong. Something’s wrong. What’s wrong?

His heart thumps like a little drummer boy’s beating against his chest. It won’t stop.

It won’t stop and he can’t breathe and he’s crying and--

A shush.

A shush like a breeze. A shush that dances in the wind on a cliff, tugging at the weed, loosening the noose, dragging Tim from the edge.

It’s okay.

It’s not okay. It’s not okay, but the air is coming back through his lungs and the little drummer boy has stopped beating and the tears drip instead of pour. It’s not okay.

It’s okay. You’re okay.

Small circles. Deep circles. Soothing circles. All are in Tim’s back.

And now he’s not so sure why everything’s wrong because it’s been righted in an instant.

Why didn’t you tell me?

The real is returning, and the not real has gone away.

1. Nickname: Hm, well, based off the username “Connie,” I used to go as “concord” on a writing website, so that came from there. So, I’d say “Connie” lol.

2. Zodiac: Aries lol

4. Time: 2:17 as I’m typing this up.

5. Favorite band/artist: Currently, has to still be the Killers. I’ve loved them for years, and loved them even more when I finally saw them in concert last year.

7. Last movie I saw: I actually just sat down to watch part of “A Simple Favor” with my parents lol.

A for Safe and Sound, H, R, T, U, and Z for the fanfic asks.

A: How did you come up with the title to Safe and Sound?

Ooh, let me think! :) I wanted to express that beyond everything, even though it appears to be true, neither of them are really safe and sound. Not with their night jobs. Not with everything they deal with. The title was more ironic or sarcastic than anything. They’re safe and sound from everything but themselves...

H: How would you describe your style?

Ummm...all over the place? Sometimes what I write comes out kinda like poetry (I like to think) and sometimes it comes out super descriptive. Other times it’s almost all dialogue. I think the best word is flowy? I like to imagine it all flows, the different styles, the words, into something that resembles me? I think my writing style is me in word form. Crazy and different and not really like anything or anyone else's, whether that’s good or bad.

R: Are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence?

Tons! So many I can’t even remember all their names! Rick Riordan, J.K. Rowling, Christopher Paolini, J. R. R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, @cdelphiki , @lemonadegarden , @cerusee , @renecdote , my father, like, that’s not even half of them! All of their writing is fantastic and they all have inspired and influenced me before! Whether that’s with an idea or just a simple thought like: ‘Good for them, I love their stuff. Maybe I should write again?’ 

T: Are there any fandom tropes you can’t stand?

Oof. Yes. Big yes. Only a few, and it’s kinda mean to say this, but if it has a trope of shows signs of one I don’t dig, I’ll just click that back button. I think most of the tropes are smaller ones too, but I just... ugh. I can’t stand them!

The one I probably dislike most is Zombies. I have read things before with them, but usually accidentally or it’s only creatures similar to zombies that can be cured. As a kid, I had a crippling fear of them and it’s kinda followed me into my adult life. I can’t read anything with zombies. It’s always sad and gross and violent. Just... eeeewww.

The others are ones I’m not a huge fan of, but if it’s written well or by someone I like I’ll usually read it. Highschool AUs where they don’t have any part of their original story and it’s pretty much just character turned into teens and thrown into a normal life. Really, any monster AU, just because I’m not a huge horror person.

U: Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.

@cdelphiki for sure. They just write Damian and Tim bonding soooo well, something there is a definite lack of, I feel. Their story, Life Happens, really was always a bright spot in my day too. Summer was kinda tough, mostly cause of a few big health scares with my grandfather, and their fic always made my day better. I was traveling a lot between cities as well, so to have something to make my day less stressful was always amazing!

@caramelmachete because their fic, The Bells of St. Clements, was truly stunning. Like, it has to be in my top three fics I’ve ever read. I loved it so much, and I reread it a lot. 

@audreycritter . I love all their fics. They’re always so in-depth and so beautiful. I especially love their fic, The Dark Knight Strikes Back. I was expecting fluff and everything when I first read it and it was, but it was so much more! 

Z: Major Character Death-do you ever write/read it? Is there a character whose death you can’t tolerate?

I am guilty of writing character death and reading it. Sometimes a good cry is just what I need. There’s also something very cleansing reading something sad, almost, dare I say happy? It’s sad, yeah, but sometimes it’s more. I feel like I’m not explaining my thoughts very well, but eh.

So, I can not stand reading anything with Alfred dying. I just nope right out of there. Alfred is the glue that hold everyone together at times! What would they all be without him?! I just can’t handle that!
