400 Follower Celebration
(ENDED JUNE 15TH)
—“Don’t you dare lie. I can see it hurts, so show me.”— With Kyle “Gaz” Garrick
Summary: After falling from a great height through an unstable floor, you end up with bruised ribs and a deep gash in your side that needs proper medical attention—but you’re almost at your destination with your team, so you say you’re fine.
A/N: I’m almost at 900 now?? thank you everyone also, your callsign is “Cinder”.
[WARNINGS: Medical inaccuracies, military inaccuracies, descriptions of wounds, physical hurt/comfort.]
You groaned as your ears rung, your body feeling unnaturally heavy. You blinked slowly and everything felt like it was far away and moving in slow motion, and your body felt unnaturally wet.. and hot. You let out a dry cough as you accidentally inhaled the misty debris, no doubt not doing your lungs any good. You looked around as your mind remained blank, whatever happened shocked you enough into a dazed state for a moment. You lay your head back down and you close your eyes tight for just a moment to try to regain feeling in your face, and pain bloomed from your neck and shoulders. Luckily, your helmet saved you from a major concussion and possibly a head injury. The ringing slowly faded until it became background noise, and you hear a voice talking into a radio and distant gunshots, as well as little parts of the destroyed floor above you falling to your level. “Cinder? Cinder do you copy??” Price. It’s Price’s voice, you vaguely catalogue that, but you don’t understand that you should probably respond. Your try to take a deep breath, but you find your chest being restricted, so you look down.
Oh.
There’s several large pieces of debris on top of you, a big piece of structural wood laying across your chest while pieces of concrete re-enforcement pin the wood down onto you. You should probably move that.
You lift your arms and you distantly feel that your side and your back is wet, your hands getting a good grip on the wood and grunting, you push the debris off yourself, moving your head to the side as some of the concrete rolls off the wood near your head. You let out another dry wheeze, feeling an ache in your ribs. For some reason, every sensation just feels.. so far away right now. You blink slowly as you sit up, glancing around the rubble that you’re sitting in the middle of. You touch your side and your body instinctively flinches, and your mind yells at you for touching your side, even if you don’t feel anything yet. You pull your hand back and your hand is wet with your blood, coating your palm like you just swiped your hand across a puddle on the street.
That isn’t good, now is it?
Oh, you should probably say something on comms. You use your clean hand to reach up and press a button, and your words are slightly slurred. “M’here, all good. Just.. got the wind knocked outta me.”
“We’ll have you checked out when we reach the safehouse. RV with us at the yellow house.”
“..Copy.”
You bend down and pick up your rifle that had been forced out of your hands, wincing as the pain in your muscles and your side is beginning to catch up to your brain. Despite wearing a vest, it seems like something managed to cut through to your side. You can’t help but look around and you press your lips together when you see rebar sticking out of different places; partially above you on the remaining slabs that haven’t fallen down to your level, as well as rebar stuck in large chunks of the concrete. It smelled like pure concrete too, if that makes sense. You hum when you know that your wound must be bad enough to soak through the vest, but you don’t want to stop and wait around just so they can slap an oversized bandaid on your side. You can do that later at the safehouse yourself.
You take a deep breath which leads to a cough, your hand coming up to brush some of the white dust from the infrastructure off of you. You get yourself out of the collapsed building and grip your rifle correctly, pointing it in front of you with your finger near the trigger, scanning your environment. All you see is ruined civilian buildings with dead enemy soldiers lining the streets, and unfortunately a few normal civilians, too. You take another look and you see the yellow house in question, but it’s a ways away. “Eyes on the yellow house, five, maybe six klicks out.”
“Copy, the perimeter is secured. You know the drill. Over and out.”
It admittedly takes you longer than it should’ve to get there. As you made your way to the rendezvous point, part of the adrenaline in your system began to stop pumping, which made you intensely aware of the gash in your side, the bruises forming deep within your muscles, and how heavy your body feels overall. It was not looking good.
After dragging yourself through the eerily quiet and bloody streets—you did have to stop a couple of times—you finally managed to get to the yellow house. ‘You know the drill.’ Find an alternate entrance other the main door, knock in a specific pattern, then wait for the door to open. You get yourself to the entrance of the house and you lift your arm, trying to ignore the way it feels like gravity is pulling on it more than usual, and then you knock the pattern you and the team agreed upon a while ago. It takes a moment before Soap opens the door with his rifle pointed at you, and you raise my hands. Soap lets out a sigh of relief and lowers his rifle, stepping to the side. “Steamin’ Jesus, looks like you’ve been through hell, aye?” He comments as you trudge your way inside. You grumble and wave him off. “Something like that.” You reapond, your voice hoarse. You make your way into the biggest room of the downstairs, which ends up being the living room. You scan the room and see Price, Ghost, and Gaz. “Saw you were in the building that collapsed. You broken?” Price grips his rifle harsher as he walks over to you, and you shake your head. “Nothin’ I can’t handle, Cap’.”
Gaz walks over to you next, his finger pointing at your bloodied side. “You sure ‘bout that? That doesn’t look too good, Cinder.” You avoid looking anyone in the eyes in fear that they will see past your already shaky facade, and you shake your head yes. “I’m.. I’m sure, just a bit tender.” This isn’t good, because the pain is managing to hit you harder and harder now. It’s like your gash is a spot where someone branded you and the burning hot sensation won’t leave for a long time, and when it finally does?—only pure pain will remain. Gaz scoffs and grabs your rifle from you, causing you to furrow your brows. “Hey, what gives?—“
Gaz then leads you over to a chair nearby and forces you to sit down, and he then puts your rifle and his rifle on the dusty table. “Let me see,” He scans your face with hardened puppy eyes, his fingers going for your vest. You shake your head and try to push his hands away. “Kyle, I am fine—“
“Don’t you dare lie. I can see it hurts, so show me.” His voice is firm, leaving no room for you to argue, so you put your arms down. You bite your lip and mutter, “I would’ve survived to the safehouse.”
Gaz wordlessly undoes the straps and clips of your bloody tactical vest, and pulls the weight off of your body. You hiss and close your eyes for a moment, hearing shuffling, probably Gaz putting the vest down. You feel his fingers pull your shirt from being stuffed into your waistband, and you hiss from the shirt dragging against the gash. You open your eyes and beside you is Gaz and Ghost—Ghost, who is setting down a medical kit, and he eyes you before speaking. “You wouldn’t have, Sergeant.”
Everyone goes silent from that, and you’re aware of the heaviness in the air due to Ghost’s observation. You opt to look at Gaz who has worried and troubled eyes as he cleans the gash, and you try to ignore the way you’re bleeding onto him. “Shit, Soap, come over here and help me.” His voice is slightly trembling and you feel guilt bubble in your gut. Gaz should never sound like that, especially not because of you..
Soap jogs over and grabs gauze, helping Gaz to soak up the blood and clean your gash. “It’s going to need stitches..” Gaz mutters, making eye contact with you. You take a deep breath and nod. “Quickly.. please?”
Gaz looks back at your wound, breaking the slight tension, and you let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding.
“Of course.”

The Forest Groans
[A dream, a looming deadline, and a grisly murder... Or, this year's Samhain festivities are primed to be something especially sinister. Depictions of gore below.] Below the cut.
"Raking leaves, again, today?" Mountain muses as he stalks through the weeds, the groundskeeper at his side playing hell at picking burrs -which he no doubt has coating his overalls- off of her pantlegs.
"Most likely," she says, tossing aside another sticky hitchhiker, "they're good compost, so I don't mind."
The ghoul nods, breathing in the crisp morning air, slightly damp from an overnight shower, and adjusts the sleeves of his sweater to let a bit of the cold slip in beneath the still itchy material, soothing his skin.
Milne is dressed in a bright yellow jacket, standing out amongst the dulled hues of the forest and dying fields of tall, dry grass; Her hair blows about her head in the breeze, and it's that gentle ruffle that reminds Mountain of the passage of time.
Earlier that year, it had been him who had taken up the clippers to shear those brown curls down into near nothing, taking care to smooth his hand over the soft fluff and wipe away all the itchy bits that landed on her neck and shoulders.
The sun had only just begun to hang itself high in the sky, but already, she had felt too warm with only an inch or two hanging down past her ears, and Mountain, terribly hot in his winter fur, had likewise wanted to shed his coat, so he could understand the desire well enough.
But now Fall was here again, and Milne's hair had grown into a sort of formless bob that curled up at the ends and seemed to be in constant motion.
One strand in particular sat atop her head like an antenna, sticking straight up, but remaining soft and pliant when poked or pressed against her scalp by a broad hand.
Occasionally, Mountain would do just that, smoothing his palm over the mess of it, and the woman would grumble, but then sigh and let him continue petting her like an aged barn cat; Unaccustomed to such affection, but appreciating it nonetheless.
As they carry on through the fields leading towards the abbey, Mountain having risen early so that he could cross them once before in darkness so he might share breakfast with the still waking gardener, the two fall into an easy silence.
Milne's boots crunch lightly against the frost covered earth, and the ghoul sniffles now and then, the cold causing his nose to run.
As uneven soil turns to carefully leveled gravel, the pair part ways, the giant turning right to head back towards the stairs leading down into the ghouls' private courtyard, giving the human a gentle wave, watching her lift her hand and utter a small, almost regretful goodbye, before vanishing from his sight.
Walking towards the backdoor, Mountain spies someone leaning against the brick wall leading further down, still, into the dorms; Swiss stands with a cigarette pinched between his fingers, smiling brightly when he sees his friend.
"Mornin', you're up early." He remarks, tamping his ash down onto the concrete slab beneath him, "Business or pleasure~?"
Mountain snorts at his teasing, but joins him against the wall with a thoughtful hum.
"Breakfast with a friend." he says plainly, using the edges of the mortar to scratch his back, "Why are you awake?"
Swiss shrugs, but his brows pull together, pensive, "I had a... I guess you could say I had a bad dream."
"Bad enough to send you out here to smoke after you tried so hard to quit last year...?" the other questions and Swiss, looking at the burning ember in his hand, lets out a dry laugh.
"I guess so." he says, dropping the offending item onto the ground and crushing it under his heel, "It was just so... fucking real."
"Tell me about it?" Mountain offers.
"See..." Swiss mumbles, "I don't know if I should."
"Hm?"
"You were in my dream, and it was like..." Swiss brings his hands up and then makes little explosions with his hands, "...Ya know?"
He shakes his head.
"I don't know." he replies, raising an eyebrow, "If you can't tell me what it was about, could you tell me why you can't tell me?"
Swiss makes a noise in the back of his throat and then nods.
"Sometimes, I get these dreams that aren't really dreams; They're... possibilities. Things that could actually happen." he says, "Omens, and not the fun kind."
"The future isn't set in stone," the multi-ghoul continues, "but intentionally interfering with it by telling you would only lead to more trouble down the line."
Mountain frowns gravely.
"What would you suggest I do then?"
Swiss pulls the pack of cigarettes from his pocket and takes one of Mountain's large hands between his own, pressing it to his palm.
"First, you can throw these out for me, I don't want them, shit tastes like black pepper on the tongue," he half jokes, "...and second, just be careful, yeah?"
Mountain feels the paper crinkle as he squeezes the box tighter.
"I can try." he assures his friend, "...Was there anyone else in your dream?"
Swiss nods.
"It was a full cast." he chuckles, "Everyone gathered 'round like it was some kind of party..."
He toes a loose pebble.
"...What was the name of the friend you were with just now?" he asks, peeking up at the earth ghoul, "Just out of curiosity..."
"Beatrix Milne." Mountain supplies, "Why? Was she in your dream, too?"
Swiss tilts his head back and breathes a heavy sigh of relief.
"No, thankfully, she was not.... Her name doesn't start with C."

Dew rises at exactly 7:30, swatting at his alarm clock, and missing three times before he smacks it onto the floor for the fourth time this week.
He's had a rough night, multiple, in fact, since the start of the month, full of tossing and turning and an inability to sleep.
A deep disquiet in his soul making it near impossible for him to shut off his brain and get any rest whatsoever, and from the sounds of shuffling feet in the corridor even earlier this morning, he wasn't the only one.
He'd stirred briefly when Mountain rose to make his way to the gardener's cottage for their Sunday morning breakfast, something he'd occasionally tag along to when he wanted to eat in a more relaxed environment, but he'd chosen to stay in bed when Mountain's low, sleepy voice had voiced a simple "Hm?" inviting him.
Dew had simply rolled over and snuggled back down in his blankets, yawning as his dormmate went about getting dressed in the dark, and tried, and briefly succeeded in, going back to sleep.
Now he lays awake, tired eyes fixed on the ceiling, already scrubbed of the Sandman's leavings, and considers what to do with his day.
A muffled grumble in his gut tells him he should probably start with breakfast himself and see where the morning takes him from there, but a more pressing weight in his bladder says pee first.
His body complains as he sits up, his head lolling side to side as he rolls his shoulders, shivering slightly as the comparably colder air of his bedroom meets his sleep warm skin.
It's too early for the abbey's caretakers to be thinking about turning on the heaters, despite the cool mornings, it still gets hot enough in the afternoon that the heat would be unbearable by the time lunch came around.
As he heads into his bathroom, Dew thinks about the trunk filled with blankets on Mountain's side of the room, and considers borrowing an extra one to make his bed more comfortable, and that thought reminds him he should probably strip his current sheets away and send them off with whoever is doing the laundry today, and then he should...
Mundane thoughts carry him from his bedroom to through the commons and then to the kitchenette where the coffee pot sits empty; Usually, whoever wakes up first will start the coffee, but he'd give Mountain a pass since he can never seem to get the ratio right.
Speak of the devil, Dew hears the rattle of the exterior screen door followed by the heavy groan of the interior one as the giant makes his way back inside, followed by a tired looking Swiss.
He's acknowledged with a grunt and a nod as the pair sit down on the opposite side of the counter, with three of them now awake and moving about, it's only a matter of time before the rest of the pack does, too, so with a stretch and another healthy yawn, Dew decides to set about making breakfast for the lot of them.
Mountain, who already ate, politely excuses himself to begin his work for the day, but not before filling up his travel mug with coffee and giving Dew an appreciative pat on the shoulder.
It's after he's left, and before the rest come shambling in, that Swiss lays his head down on the counter and sighs.
"Having trouble sleeping, again, huh?" Dew comments knowingly, reaching over to slide the weary ghoul a mug and the spiced creamer from the fridge along with the eggs for breakfast.
Swiss nods, face squished to the marble.
"Bad dreams or just restless?" he asks, watching the multi ghoul sit up and shuffle his stool closer to the counter so he can lean over it while sipping his coffee.
"Bad dreams..." Swiss says, adding more creamer until his drink is almost white with it, "Not worth getting into, but it's, ya know, it has that bite to it..."
Bite.
"Ah." Dew nods, knowing exactly what he means, "And you don't want to talk about it?"
"Maybe later, when I'm more awake."
"If it makes you feel any better, I haven't been sleeping all that well myself..." he admits, picking a bit of shell out of the scramble he's making, "We're only a few weeks out from the sabbath, and only a couple days out from the hunter's moon, so that's probably it."
Swiss shrugs, warming his fingers around the mug.
"If that were the case, I'd expect the other quint mixes and full blooded quintessence ghouls to be going insane right now, but Aeon sleeps like a rock, and Aeth's still snoring away across the hall..." he laments jealously, "Nah, I think..."
He places a hand over his chest pensively.
"No... No, I know it has to be that."
Dew stops cubing up bits of ham for the scramble to hand a slice to his friend, who nibbles on it graciously.
"Maybe you should talk to the siblings then." Dew suggests, wiping his hands on a stray dish towel, "Get a beat on the human side of things..."
Swiss considers this for a moment; Dew and him, being hybrids -the offspring of humans who laid with demons- felt their elements differently to typical ghouls, and thus related more spiritually to their mortal relations than their demonic ones, so, asking the siblings could help sort things out, but...
The ghoul clicks his tongue.
"My dream involved... There was a human in my dream, someone close to the church, so I don't want to make anyone worry." he says, running his index finger over the rim of his coffee mug, making the gloss squeak, "It'll pass."
He waves his hand about dismissively and Dew decides to leave well enough alone and changes the topic.
"I was thinking we should all watch a movie later-"
.
.
.
By the time Bea is done raking the leaves, she can see one of the siblings ascending the bell tower, signaling that it's time for lunch; The abbey, although modern in some regards, had kept the bell system for keeping time out of tradition, and, more honestly, aesthetics.
Digital clocks don't look as grand and lack the mystique of analogue, but Bea will admit to checking her watch instead of trying to understand the positions of the hands.
That was one thing she'd never quite got a handle on, even if it was easy enough to learn, she, ironically, never had the time to sit down and do so.
Setting the rake aside, Bea removes her gloves, tucking them into her front pocket, and joins the growing line of siblings of sin headed indoors towards the mess hall.
Normally, she'd pack a small lunch and eat outside, but today she has a midday meeting with the so-called man in charge to discuss the upcoming Samhain festivities, and a container of hot soup made a better threat than cold bologna.
Every year, Copia would propose greater and grander ideas for the holiday, and every year Bea would have to talk him back down the earth in regards to practicality and budgets, but she holds onto the false hope that this time he'll request something a bit more... subdued.
Since Sister Imperator's passing, the once Papa, now newly dubbed Frater Imperator, has been quiet, not in the sense that he hasn't said much -he still talks in that familiar, excitable manner she's grown accustomed to- but in that he's seemed more... introspective.
Thoughtful.
Bea, too, has felt strangely calm these last few months, but on her end, the thing keeping her "level" was her health; She'd begun to feel weak around the end of the summer, and progressively more so since the fall season had begun, making it difficult at times to keep up with her work.
More than once, Mountain had urged her to speak with the medical staff about her sudden fatigue, but there really wasn't much they could do for her, since her affliction wasn't one that could be easily fixed through bedrest and medicine.
The woman thinks about her contract with the ministry, of the deal she agreed to without hesitation.
A deal which had sparked several arguments and then finally some level of acceptance from her friend.
They would discuss this, too, during their meeting today, but it wouldn't be for long, and would act as the conversations singular tangent before the bargaining and begging began.
...Or at least that had been the plan, until an ear piercing scream has her nearly dropping her soup all over the floor.
A crowd of siblings are gathered in the main hall around the statue of Baphomet, which looms ominously over all of them.
It takes a moment to process what's going on, but when she does, Bea is horrified.
A head sits upon the statue's lap, eyes missing from their sockets, and at the base, the body that had once been attached to it is posed kneeling before it, hands bound in a prayer like position.
Bea breathes in harshly, feeling the blood rush from her head, her heartbeat becoming erratic as the gathered siblings begin to shout in unison.
"Who is it?!"
"What's happened?!"
"Is that blood?!"
"Is this real??"
It's too much.
It's really too much.
Bea sets her lunch aside and marches towards the front doors, shoving them both open with a loud bang.
Others follow suit, the panic turning into static as the gardener pulls off to the side, stumbling into the hedges to throw up.
"Christ's sake...!" she hisses, wiping her mouth on her sleeve.
Someone needs to call the police...
She reaches into her pocket, but a hand wraps around her wrist, staying her own.
"Easy now, let's not act rashly." a cool monotone voice whispers in her ear, "Let someone else handle this."
Bea blinks, an icy chill shooting up her spine as she turns to see Mr. Psaltarian there, his grasp on her arm growing firmer when she doesn't immediately release her phone, "R... Right."
She breathes, and the older man releases her, instead laying his hand upon her back between shoulder blades.
"Your meeting with Frater Imperator has been effectively rescheduled until tomorrow." he says, "You should head back to your cottage for the rest of the day and get some rest."
"But-"
"Do not argue with me, Ms. Milne." he warns, and Bea straightens up at that, nodding, "Very good. Go get yourself cleaned up, I'm sure you'll have a visitor or two later today."
Bea covers her mouth as another wave of nausea hits her.
"And remember, Ms. Milne, when they ask about what you saw here today-"
"I saw nothing." she says, swallowing thickly, and Psaltarian smiles broadly, "Nothing at all. I went home early because I was sick."
"Indeed."
.
.
.
By sunset, news of the death of one Sister Camille has spread through the abbey like wildfire, and Swiss feels it burning in his very chest; His anxiety over his dream had him thinking that the "C" from it would have been Copia, he'd be half certain about it, but, then again, even from the perspective he'd witnessed the death from, he could tell the person had been wearing a habit in retrospect.
Guilt sinks into his belly like a lead weight, and turns him off his dinner and Dew's proposed film for the evening, The Nun, but not enough to stop him from sprawling across he couch and letting the fire ghoul scratch his long fingers through his curls, soothing him to sleep.
His dreams are almost eerily peaceful and calm.
Elsewhere, Mountain finds himself back at the cottage, the dishes from breakfast still sat in the sink as he frets over his sickly friend, who seems paler and sicker than he'd seen her in some time.
Her eyes are distant, dead almost, but when he asks her if anything is wrong, she replies wearily that she's fine.
But she's not.
Mountain thinks to ask her if she'd heard the news about the sister of sin who died, but decides against it, it's not something he should bring up so casually, nor burden her with when she's feeling ill.
Instead, he heads over to the cabinets and gathers everything he needs to make his special blend of tea.
Something warm, but soothing, easy on the stomach.
Bea lets out a little whimper as the kettle begins to whistle.
No, she doesn't need to be thinking of that sort of thing at all right now.
And yet she is, unbeknownst to him, she is.
But she won't tell him that, the lingering chill of Psaltarian's touch on her back reminding her to keep her mouth shut.
Mountain rubs her back in the same spot when she says it hurts.
She tells him nothing.

angst
They barely claw themselves out.
Jimmy collapses and he heaves, he pants, his lungs scorch from the inside and he can’t quite get enough air. His eyes water and he shuts them harshly, his waterline wet as tears still find their way out, scratching their way down his cheeks. He gasps, stammers a name that fills his mind—his heart, his better half.
“Ji– Oh god, Jimmy, no—
The words hit him like bricks, slabs of concrete squashing under the rubble left of their world. He tries to gasp for air, until his lungs are ready to burst, until he can find any strength to speak. Call him, he wants to—needs to.
Dirt and pebbles catch under his fingernails when he claws at the ground, concrete roughing up his nails and scratching at his skin, but he barely feels the pain. The burning on his skin stabs at his mind, his clothes melting into his skin. If he had the energy, he would’ve ripped his clothes off. Feel the dry heat on his skin, the wisps of flames touching his face—
“Jimmy,” he calls again, and Jimmy falls onto his forearm. A sharp pebble pokes right above his elbow, threatening another cut on his skin. He drags his arm back, wincing when the pebble rolls under his forearm, until he can dig the heel of his palm onto the hot ground. “Please… No, this– No.”
Centuries burn by, the world breaking through the bottom of the barrel to hell itself.
Unbreakable, unstoppable—the human spirit tested over and over.
It’s an eternity later, led by a choir of sobs, that Jimmy gathers himself. He drags himself over, feeling like a dead man barely clinging onto life, the string of life wrapped and cutting his hand, yet he refuses to let go.
He falls again, the wind knocked out of his lungs. And his voice is still lost, his face tear-stained, but he pulls him into his arms, buries his head into the crook of his shoulders. They sob, holding onto each other.
Tomorrow is another day.

Friday
August 31st, 2012.
Beckett placed her hand on Castle's knee and pressed down firmly.
The incessant bouncing stopped.
"When?" she asked.
Dr. Kendi Abebe sat behind a large, wooden desk. In front of him was Castle's medical file. Just the sight of it made Beckett's mouth dry and her body feel heavy, like someone had dropped a concrete slab in her lap and expected her to sit there as if it weren't slowly crushing her. But Castle had long checked out, muttering something about this being karma for a life well lived and bouncing his leg so rapidly she was sure the friction of his calf against the fabric armchair was sure to start a fire. Someone had to be mentally present and it was looking like that someone was going to be her.
"As soon as possible," Dr. Abebe informed her. "The sooner we get the necessary imaging done, the sooner we can form a plan."
"Plan?" Castle asked absent-mindedly.
"For treatment," the doctor clarified.
"Can't you just cut it out?"
"Surgery is an option, yes," Dr. Abebe said for the second time. "But first we need to get an idea of what we're working with. An MRI will give us a visual of the tumour. We'll be able to see how big it is and if it has started to spread."
Castle sighed. "Right. You said that, I'm sorry."
Beckett squeezed his knee; a silent show of support.
"It's okay, Richard," the doc assured him. "I can go over your options as many times as you need. And I have plenty of reading materials to send you home with, too, so don't think you have to commit it all to memory right now. It's a lot to absorb."
Castle shook his head. "I just- How do I tell my daughter? You know, she's just started College and is excited to discover this brand new world." He turned to look at Beckett. "I don't want to ruin her freshman year."
The tremor in his voice shattered her defences and she had to blink away the tears that stung her eyes.
"Castle, I know you're worried about Alexis but we're going to figure out how to tell her, okay? And she's going to be fine, you're not ruining anything." She ran her fingers through his hair and offered him a small smile, the best one she could muster in the moment. "You know she's going to have questions, though, right?"
Castle laughed as sad laugh.
"She's going to want all the details because- because she's smart," she continued. "Knowledge is power, right? The more we know, the better. She's going to have a million questions and she's going to want you to answer them."
"So, right now I need to focus," Castle surmised.
"Just do what you can," she encouraged. "We'll figure the rest out later."

In The Pale Moonlight: What If....Gotham Knights?
Might do multiple parts to this one. Either way, the following is an adaption of the opening cutscenes. @harleyification, here's another little pick-me-up.
Enjoy and be gentle ---
The Mission was quiet. Barely anyone entered, and those who did were simply offering thanks from before. All and all, a good night. And then, the Mission suddenly made a little podium and sat their phone on top, angled towards him. It took only a few seconds before Marc was out the door.
It couldn't be true. He knew that the protocols existed, but things couldn't have gotten that bad so suddenly, right? Steven and Jake were asking questions but their voices barely pierced the endless begging of "not now, it's too soon, I'm not ready".
Wayne Manor was rubble.
The moment his feet touched the ground, Jason was by his side and they were running. Dick, Barbara and Tim were already there, just arrived themselves it seemed. In one swift motion, Barbara pulls free Batman's gauntlet. "No," Steven whispered as the implications finally hit. Tim finds a small splatter of blood and, shortly after: "There!" Dick cries, pointing to a slap of reinforced concrete. On top of a human arm. Bat cowl in hand.
They all move as one, pausing only for the briefest moment before grapping that slab and lifting. But it's no use.
Vaguely, Marc can see Jason hold Tim back, and Barbara and Dick crouch by Bruce's side. He can hear Steven and Jake's reactions. But can only watch as Dick closes Bruce's their dad's eyes for the last time.
---
It was raining. And that just seemed wrong to Jake. After everything Bruce had sacrificed for the city, he deserved at least a dry funeral. But, in truth, Jake hadn't the will to care that much.
As it was, he was only half listening to Great-Uncle Jacob's eulogy. Steven was gently pressed against him. Marc had been AWOL since...that night. "Bruce was Gotham," suddenly reached them both, "He loved this city more than he loved anything. He was a protector to this city. He worked tirelessly behind the scenes to bring justice and equality. There's nothing he wouldn't do - no project he wouldn't champion, if he thought Gotham would benefit. And I think in remembering that...We remember Bruce as he truely was."
Alfred broke from their line to delicately place a hand on Bruce's casket. As Dick walked forward to shelter him from the rain, Marc drifted back up silently.
Khonshu stood beside them, unseen by all else, as the casket was lowered from sight.
---
Crickets were chirping when Steven arrived at the grave, the soft sign of life easing the tightness in his chest just a bit. Slowly, the others gathered around. "How's Alfred?" Jason asked Dick once everyone was there. "What you'd expect...took him three years to agree to a vacation and Bruce turned up dead?" Dick stated, "He asked for some time." "He knows that none of us were there either, right?" Tim asked. "What about you?" Barbara asked Dick before he could answer Tim, "You let Jacob Kane give the eulogy." "He offered."
"He thought it'd be easier on us if he was the one to do it." he continued, "He's Bruce's uncle." "Hell of a speech," Jason replied, "All that talk about a 'protector' who 'works behind the scenes'. If he only knew." Barbara cut off the thought that hung in the air: "Catherine wouldn't be there if she suspected. I can't see the anti-vigilante police commissioner presiding at Batman's funeral." "It's true," Steven piped up, "While most cops leave the Mission alone, we've heard some...murmerings about what would happen if the House of Shadows ever vacated."
"Here's something else Catherine doesn't know: She has the body of Batman's killer in her morgue," Dick stated, "Ra's Al-Ghul is listed as a John Doe, slated for cremation." "Good riddence," Marc muttered in the privacy of their head. "And what if the League of Shadows finds him?" Jason asked, "If they drop their dear leader in a Lazarus Pit, he won't be so dead anymore." "You want to break into the GCPD Headquarters for a 'what if', be my guest," Dick walked forward slightly. "I've decrypted the case Batman sent with his message," Barbara got between them, just in case, "We should focus on that."
Tim tapped at his tablet: "I looked it over, but...did I get everything? It doesn't look complete." "I think Ra's interupted him while he was writing." "He says, 'This has implications that could shake Gotham to its core'." "Ominous but not helpful," Jason dismissed, "I saw a few places we should poke around - construction sites, a quarry..." "He also mentioned a Dr. Langstrom. Anyone know him?" Dick interjected. "He's a zoologist at Gotham University." stated Tim's tech trigger-finger working its magic, "Not sure what his...connection is though."
"Let's divide up the work." Barbara offered, "We can meet at the Belfry when we're done, get it up and running." Silence briefly echoed between them. "Who gets to talk to Langstrom?" Dick asked their little circle. "We'll go," Marc lightly nugged Steven aside, his own suit appearing in seconds.
"Are you sure?" Tim asked cautiously. "We're fine!" Marc hissed. "Hey, easy man," Jason gestured like he was a wounded animal, "little birdie's only asking because none of us have seen you since the Manor went up." "I'm fine," Marc huffed after a deep breath. "Alright, but I'd feel better if someone else was physically with you tonight," Dick stated. "Robin," Marc turned to him after a moment's silence, "Any objections?" "None found."
And with that settled, they all nodded and left for their duties.

I've complained about this before but it sticks with me.
I have a friend who's plan to survive the apocalypse/government collapse/whatever involves buying groceries post-collapse with foodstamps. He adamantly believes that in the complete absence of government to provide handouts somehow foodstamps will still work.
If the grid fails then his plan for heating/cooking involves building a fire on his "patio" that is literally just a 4'X4' concrete slab right up against the side of the building.
His plan to get firewood is to use a hatchet to cut down trees. He has nowhere to store it for drying which doesn't matter anyway because he's planning to burn it wet and green anyway. If he uses enough paper he can keep a fire going long enough for the wood to start burning.
There's an obvious elephant in the room about fitness with dudes who want to survive the apocalypse. So many fatasses can't run a mile, hell if I'm being honest I can't even walk a mile without getting winded, but fitness aside so many people think just having a gun is all they need. They think they can survive on their own because they're an ultimate badass survivalist. Besides not caring to build a network of friends they can't even be bothered to learn basic survival skills like building a fire or treating drinking water.
The best survivalists learn these skills before they need it. You don't want to learn water treatment the hard way dying of dysentery.

Teeter.
Pain.
That's all Jaune could feel at the moment.
Agonizing searing pain.
Blue eyes slowly opened as they were greeted to a small bit of sunlight peaking out from a small hole.
Where was-
"Oh, thank God, Mr. Arc, you're awake!" Came the voice of someone...familiar.
"Try to stay with me, sir! Okay! You saved all of us, Mr. Arc, you're a hero!" Said the voice as Jaune struggled to keep his eyes open.
"Wha...happen" Jaune said throat raspy as he tried to move but when he made an attempt that searing pain got worse.
"Please stay still, Mr. Arc, I've already alerted the ground crew of whereabouts, " the voice spoke.
"As for what happened, Grimm attacked, you and your wife helped clear out the building and the Grimm, but one of the Grimm compromised one of the sections of the building, causing it to collapse..." Wife? Wife? Ruby!?
"Ru-ru-ruby?" Jaune stuttered as he tried to move his head around to search for her.
"It's okay, Mr. Arc, she was unconscious when me and the young lady all woke up. Now my medical skills aren't the best, but I believe she just has a broke arm and some cuts from all the debris, but you managed to save us all!" The knowledge that his Ruby and everyone was safe brought a calmness in him, as he suddenly felt a bit dizzy now.
"K-keep your eyes up, Mr. Arc, young lad, come here and keep Mr. Arc company while I go check on Mrs. Arc Rose" Suddenly the old man rose up from his spot and in his place a young boy looked at him.
"Hello, Mr. Knight... thank you for saving us. You were like one of those cool super hero's from the TV shows I watched, " the young boy said to him and and Jaune just gave a dry chuckle.
" When... we get out of here. Could I...ask possibly ask for an autograph?" Jaune just raised an eyebrow before nodding. Jaune noticed a cut on top of the boys head as Jaune weakly tried to raise his hand but lacking the strength.
Suddenly, Jaune had blacked out but not before hearing the screams of a familiar voice.
"Jaune!"
-
She could hear a muffled voice talking. She wasn't sure if it was too her or not, but that didn't matter.
Silver eyes were greeted to the sight of an old man who looked at her in concern that quickly changed to relief.
"Oh, thank goodness, you're awake, Mrs. Rose" said the old man as Ruby was slow to get up and take in her surroundings.
Pile of rubble around them...rubble wait.. didn't..
"A building just collapses on us?" She asked to which the old man nodded.
"Have no fear. I was able to send a distress signal to your team and other authorities they will be here soon!" Ruby nodded "are you and the boy hurt? She asked to which the old man shook his head.
"Non- life threatening for me and the young lady, you, on the other hand, suffered a broken arm." As soon as he said that, Ruby tried moving her left arm only to receive a jolt of pain.
It will be okay Jaune co-
Ruby stopped mid thought as she then frantically began looking around for her husband.
"W-where's Jaune" the old man looked down trodden as he moved out of her view and Ruby saw the most horrible sight in the world.
Jaune, her best friend, soul mate, and husband, was pinned underneath a large concrete slab.
His armor was all destroyed and broken as the boy next to him kept trying to talk to him.
In a bolt of energy, Ruby slowly got up and attempted to walk to him but as soon as the energy came it went and she fell to her knees as tears began to well up in her eyes.
Get to Jaune.
Was the only phrase running repeatedly in her head.
Her body begged her to stop, to let rest but Ruby Rose-Arc would not be bested, not even by herself.
She tried to lift herself off the ground but still her body wouldn't move.
"Jaune," She moaned out in pain as she reached out to him. Suddenly, a hand came and she was lifted up.
It was the old man.
He looked at her and smiled before he wrapped her arm around his shoulders and made his way to the other side of the area.
Ruby got to her husband, and she put Jaune's head in her lap as she began to stroke his hair with her good hand and hoped with all if her soul that her team would get to them soon.
-
Jaune woke up again to the sound of sniffling and was met with the most beautiful sight.
A beautiful woman of black hair, red tips, and gorgeous silver eyes.
"Heh, I must be dead n-no way I get an angel who is an exact look alike to my Ruby," Jaune said, to which Ruby gasped at hearing her lovers voice.
"JAUNE!" cried Ruby as she bent down and touched her for head to his as tears kept falling from her eyes.
"Ru-Ruby, are you hurt?" Jaune asked to which Ruby let out a weak sob/chuckle.
"Dummy, I should be asking you that! You're the one who protected us all with your aura!" Ruby scolded as Jaune chuckled weakly.
"Sorry bout that," he said to her and Ruby shook her head.
"It's okay outside of a broken arm. I'll be fine...but but she looked to Jaune's lower half that was pinned beneath the large stone.
"H-how are you feeling?" She asked as suddenly Jaune lazily moved his head from side to side
"I-Its kind of hard to breathe like my chest is tightening up" panic began to fill Ruby's stomach as she recalled the way Jaune breathing was shallow and rattling on his body.
"Uh, I- I my legs are numb in the painful way too, and it feels all wet underneath me..." Suddenly, Jaune's eyes fluttered close, and her mind went into a frenzied over-clock.
She looked back to the old man who was giving a look over on the boy again.
"Sir, c-could you come here?" The old man looked at her before stopping his assessment and made his way too them.
"Yes Mrs. Rose?" He asked as he was handed a scroll.
"Go around that stone slab and take a picture...I need to see what's going on Jaunes lower half" She said as she tossed her scroll at the old man who nodded and proceeded to bear crawl his way around to an opening was to where he could see the true extent of the damage.
"Oh my god..." With a snap of the photo, he bear crawled back around to a worried Ruby, making small chatter with Jaune.
The old man looked down to Ruby who just swallowed the big lump in her throat.
The old man turned the scroll around and Ruby looked on in horror.
Jaune legs were crushed while three pieces of rebar were plunged into his lower half as blood pooled around his lower half.
Ruby's mind almost shut itself off.
"Ru-ru, you okay?" Came Jaune sluggish voice, which brought Ruby back to her reality as she looked.
"I-im fine Jaune, we just gotta-" Her eyes grew wide again with horror as terror began flooding her senses, looking down, Jaune's expression was serene, relaxed with rest.
"Hey hey hey no no no no don't sleep. Stay awake, Jaune," Tears had once again streamed down her face and dripped from her chin.
A groan put her into a sense of relief as Jaune opened his eyes. "wus wrong ru?" Jaune slurred out, the concussion and blood loss beginning to take its toll.
Gotta keep him awake... keep him talking anything!
"Hey Jaune...what's your favorite Christmas memory?" Jaunes eyes opened up, remembering that today of all these days was Christmas Eve.
"Heh, outside of spending Christmas time with you , I can only name one... Remember our third year of Christmas?" Ruby nodded as she remembered that was the time her mother , her long lost mother, who was presumed KIA had returned to them after so long.
Many tears were shed that day between her, Yang and her dad.
But wait...
"You- you had something to do with her coming home" Ruby asked and Jaune nodded.
"I didn't wanna tell you and made summer primise never to talk about it, but me and my team found her in a village while clearing out grimm. She resembled you so much and I remembered a picture you shared with me...and well i pieced it together...it turns out she had bad case of amnesia bu-but thanks to" Jaune coughed a bit.
"Thanks to the Jaune Arc patent Aura fixing and a lot of pictures of you and Yang, we were able to make her remember...sh-she wasn't sure how she would be able to come back into your lives but I told them that you all loved her so much" Jaune stopped for a moment.
"What happened next, Jaune?"
Gotta keep him talking. Gotta keep him taking!
"It was a whoooole arc of will she/won't she in the end i made her an Arc promise tha I can't disclose yet!" Jaune let out a giggle as he looked up to Ruby.
"Ya know Rubes... these years of my life have been the greatest, especially our first year of meeting at Beacon, ehehe blowing up in a crater all our battles, our ups, our downs, our falls and our rises...I couldn't be where I'm at because of them and especially you my beautiful adorable wife Ruby..." Ruby let out a gasp at as Jaune's eyes flickered several times before his eyelashes hit his cheekbone, and at that moment, Ruby could only let out a wail of distress. "Jaune" taunting silence answered her.
"Hey! Hey! V-vomit boy! Babe! J-Jaune wake up!" She wailed, sobs bubbling in her throat as her heart was being torn apart by despair and agony. "Please,"she wept as she put her forehead back to her husband's head as her body convulsed in agony. "Please don't take him from me!"

When it comes to cutting through the hardest materials with precision and efficiency, not all tools are created equal. For construction professionals, tradespeople, and DIY enthusiasts, Diamond Core Drill Bits are the gold standard for drilling through concrete, stone, brick, and other tough surfaces. These specialized drill bits are designed to handle the rigors of heavy-duty drilling, delivering clean, accurate results even in the most challenging conditions.
But what makes diamond core drill bits the preferred choice for demanding projects? In this blog, we’ll explore the unique features of these premium tools, their applications, and why investing in high-quality diamond core drill bits is essential for achieving professional-grade results.
Why Choose Diamond Core Drill Bits?
Unlike standard drill bits that rely on brute force, diamond core drill bits are engineered to combine durability, precision, and speed. They are embedded with industrial-grade diamonds that can grind through the hardest surfaces with minimal wear, making them an invaluable tool for cutting through reinforced concrete, masonry, and natural stone.
Here are the top reasons why diamond core drill bits are a cut above the rest:
Exceptional Cutting Power: Diamond is one of the hardest substances on Earth, making it the ideal material for cutting through tough surfaces. The diamond segments on these drill bits create a grinding action that allows for smoother, faster, and more efficient drilling compared to traditional methods.
Precision and Accuracy: Diamond core drill bits are designed to cut clean, precise holes without causing cracks or spalling in the surrounding material. This accuracy is crucial for applications that require flawless results, such as plumbing installations, electrical wiring, and structural modifications.
Reduced Wear and Tear: Because of the superior hardness of diamond, these drill bits experience less wear and maintain their sharpness longer than conventional bits. This durability translates to cost savings in the long run, as you won’t need to replace them as frequently.
Versatility Across Materials: Diamond core drill bits are not limited to concrete. They are versatile enough to cut through a wide range of materials, including granite, marble, ceramic tile, and asphalt. This adaptability makes them a must-have for contractors and DIY enthusiasts tackling various projects.
Minimized Vibration and Dust: Diamond core drilling produces less vibration than hammer drilling, reducing the risk of structural damage and making it safer for delicate surfaces. Additionally, many diamond core drill bits are designed for wet drilling, which minimizes dust and keeps the work area cleaner.
Types of Diamond Core Drill Bits
Understanding the different types of Diamond Core Drill Bits can help you choose the right tool for your specific application. Here’s a breakdown of the most common types available:
1. Standard Diamond Core Drill Bits
These bits are the go-to choice for most construction and renovation projects. Available in various diameters and lengths, they are perfect for drilling through concrete walls, slabs, and blocks. They can be used with both handheld and rig-mounted drills, making them versatile for a range of applications.
2. Wet Diamond Core Drill Bits
3. Dry Diamond Core Drill Bits
While most diamond core drill bits are used with water, dry bits are available for situations where water is not practical. These bits are typically used for drilling through softer masonry materials such as brick and block. They feature special segments designed to dissipate heat and reduce friction.
4. Turbo Diamond Core Drill Bits
Turbo diamond core drill bits are designed for ultra-fast cutting through hard materials. Their unique segment design increases drilling speed while maintaining precision, making them ideal for projects that require quick results without sacrificing quality.
Applications of Diamond Core Drill Bits
Diamond core drill bits are used across a variety of industries and applications due to their strength, precision, and versatility. Here are some common uses:
Construction and Renovation: Creating openings for plumbing, electrical wiring, HVAC systems, and anchor bolts in concrete walls and floors.
Road and Bridge Construction: Cutting through asphalt and concrete for utility installations, expansion joints, and core sampling.
Tile and Stone Work: Drilling clean holes in ceramic tiles, marble countertops, and granite slabs for faucets, fixtures, and decorative elements.
Masonry and Brickwork: Making precise openings in brick walls and masonry for installations and repairs.
Choosing the Right Diamond Core Drill Bit
Selecting the right Diamond Core Drill Bits for your project depends on several factors, including the type of material, the size of the hole, and whether you’ll be using a wet or dry drilling method. Here are some key considerations:
Material Hardness: Determine the hardness of the material you’ll be drilling through. For extremely hard materials like granite or reinforced concrete, choose a bit with a high concentration of diamond segments for enhanced cutting power.
Hole Diameter and Depth: Choose a bit with the appropriate diameter and length for your project. Smaller diameters are ideal for precision work, while larger bits are needed for creating utility openings or removing cores for testing.
Drilling Method (Wet or Dry): Decide whether wet or dry drilling is more suitable. Wet drilling is recommended for hard materials and continuous use, as it reduces heat and dust. Dry drilling is more convenient for smaller projects or when water is not available.
Type of Drill: Ensure that the bit is compatible with your drilling equipment. Some diamond core drill bits are designed for handheld drills, while others require rig-mounted setups for stability and control.
Tips for Using Diamond Core Drill Bits Effectively
To get the best results from your diamond core drill bits, follow these expert tips:
Start Slow: Begin drilling at a low speed to create an initial guide hole, then increase speed gradually to prevent the bit from wandering.
Use Water (for Wet Drilling): Ensure a steady flow of water to cool the bit and wash away debris. This prolongs the bit’s life and maintains cutting efficiency.
Avoid Excessive Pressure: Let the bit do the work. Applying too much pressure can damage the bit and the material, leading to uneven cuts and premature wear.
Keep the Drill Steady: Use a drill stand or rig for larger bits to maintain stability and prevent misalignment.
Achieve Professional Results with Premium Diamond Core Drill Bits
When it comes to cutting through the toughest materials, there’s no substitute for high-quality Diamond Core Drill Bits. Their superior cutting power, precision, and durability make them the go-to tool for professionals and DIY enthusiasts alike. Ensuring a Perfect Finish with Rust Bullet: Surface Prep Tips for Concrete Floors
When it comes to applying Rust Bullet coatings, one of the standout features is the minimal surface preparation required compared to other products. However, the level of prep needed can vary depending on the condition of your floor and how it was finished. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you get the best results:
1. Understanding Your Floor’s Finish
Broom Finish: If your floor has a broom finish, no additional prep is needed beyond ensuring the floor is completely dry prior to application.
Troweled Finish: Floors that have been troweled, especially power troweled, might require minimal surface prep to ensure proper adhesion. This involves sanding the floor with approximately 80 grit sandpaper to break up the surface tension created by the polished finish and provide an anchor pattern for the Rust Bullet coating.
2. Concrete Surface Profile (CSP)
Rust Bullet only requires a CSP 1, which is much lower than the CSP 5 or 6 needed for epoxy floor coatings. This means less intensive preparation is needed, saving you time and effort.
3. Cure vs. Dry Time for New Concrete
It’s important to distinguish between the cure time and dry time of fresh concrete:
Cure Time: This is the period it takes for the concrete to harden and reach its full strength.
Dry Time: This refers to the process of moisture evaporation from the concrete and can take significantly longer. The rule of thumb is that it takes 30 days per inch of slab thickness to dry out completely. For example, a 3-inch slab would take about 90 days to dry thoroughly.
4. Moisture Testing
Before applying your coating, ensure the floor is completely dry by performing a moisture test. Here are a few methods:
Plastic Sheet Test:
Cut a 1'x1' square from a plastic sheet (a cut-off side from a gallon resealable bag works well).
Tape the edges of the plastic square to the floor, ensuring it’s sealed on all sides.
Leave it for 24 hours.
Check for condensation on the underside of the plastic or darkening of the slab, which indicates moisture.
Moisture Meter or Calcium Chloride Test:
These tools are available at home improvement stores. Follow the instructions provided with the test kits to determine the moisture content.
5. Ensuring Proper Adhesion
Rust Bullet has phenomenal adhesion, but proper prep is essential to avoid issues:
Profile Check: Ensure all areas have a good profile, similar to 120 grit sandpaper texture.
Moisture Test: Even if your floor has been poured for a while, it’s a good idea to perform a moisture test to ensure there is no hidden moisture.
6. Final Tips
When touching up your floor, make sure to lightly sand any areas to ensure good adhesion.
Ensure the floor is dry and clean before application.
By following these steps, you can avoid adhesion failures and enjoy a durable, high-quality finish with Rust Bullet coatings. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We want every one of our customers to experience the exceptional performance of Rust Bullet and appreciate the application for years to come.

Because of its design, Plywood formwork can bear significant loads and pressures when the wet concrete is poured and set.
Plywood offers longer longevity. It can last much longer if taken properly and treated with waterproof coatings.
Plywood formwork minimizes the need for additional finishing work, which usually happens.
It can easily be cut and molded to fit any design, making Plywood an all-rounder.
Plywood can be used in both simple and complex designs.
Though the initial cost of getting Plywood can be higher than Timber formwork, the maintenance and reusability make up the economical cost in the long run.
Disadvantages of Plywood Formwork
If the waterproofing is not applied, Plywood can absorb the moisture, resulting in swelling and warping. This would lessen the lifespan of plywood formwork.
Plywood formwork needs to be handled by professional and skilled labor to avoid damage like chipping or splintering.
To extend the lifespan of plywood formwork needs regular maintenance like cleaning, drying, etc.
Compared to other formworks, plywood formwork costs more, which is unsuitable for small projects.
If plywood formwork is not disposed of and discarded properly, it can lead to environmental waste.

What are the most popular materials for countertop units, and how do they affect durability?
When choosing materials for counter top units, it's important to consider both the aesthetics and the durability of each option. Here are some of the most popular materials used for countertops and how they affect durability: Granite ○ Durability: Granite is highly durable and resistant to scratches and heat. It's a natural stone, so each slab is unique, offering a wide range of colors and patterns. ○ Care: Requires periodic sealing to maintain its resistance to stains and moisture. Quartz ○ Durability: Quartz is engineered from natural stone and resins, making it extremely hard and non-porous. It's resistant to scratches, stains, and heat. ○ Care: Low maintenance; it does not require sealing and is easy to clean with soap and water. Marble ○ Durability: Marble is a softer stone compared to granite, making it more prone to scratches and stains. It's highly susceptible to acidic substances, which can etch the surface. ○ Care: Requires regular sealing and careful cleaning to maintain its appearance. Laminate ○ Durability: Laminate is made of layers of paper or fabric impregnated with resin and bonded to particleboard. It's budget-friendly but less durable than natural stone or engineered surfaces. It can be prone to scratches and heat damage. ○ Care: Easy to clean with mild detergents but can be damaged by cutting or placing hot items directly on the surface. Solid Surface (e.g., Corian) ○ Durability: Solid surface materials are made from acrylic or polyester resins and are non-porous. They are resistant to stains and minor impacts but can be scratched more easily than stone counter top units. ○ Care: Scratches can often be sanded out. It's important to use cutting boards and trivets to protect the surface. Butcher Block ○ Durability: Butcher block is made from hardwoods like maple or oak and offers a warm, natural look. It can be susceptible to scratches, burns, and water damage if not properly maintained. ○ Care: Requires regular oiling to prevent drying and warping and should be sanded and resealed periodically. Concrete ○ Durability: Concrete countertops are highly customizable and can be very durable if properly sealed. They are resistant to scratches and heat but can crack or stain if not maintained. ○ Care: Requires regular sealing to prevent stains and moisture damage. Stainless Steel ○ Durability: Stainless steel is highly durable, heat-resistant, and hygienic. It is resistant to stains and water damage but can be scratched and show fingerprints. ○ Care: Easy to clean with non-abrasive cleaners and regular polishing to maintain shine counter top units. Each material has its advantages and drawbacks, so the choice depends on your priorities regarding appearance, maintenance, and how the countertop will be used.

How Plumbers Detect And Fix Hidden Leaks In Your Home?
Hidden leaks in your home can be a nightmare. They sneak up on you, causing damage and driving up your water bill before you even realise there's a problem. But fear not! A Affordable plumber Coolangatta has the expertise and tools to find and fix these sneaky leaks. In this blog, we'll explore how plumbers detect and repair hidden leaks, ensuring your home stays dry and your water bill stays low.
Understanding Hidden Leaks
Hidden leaks can occur in various places, such as behind walls, under floors, or even in your yard. These leaks are often undetectable until they cause significant damage. Common signs of hidden leaks include unexplained water stains, a sudden increase in your water bill, or the sound of running water when all taps are off.
How Do Plumbers Detect Hidden Leaks?
A Coolangatta plumber uses several advanced techniques and tools to pinpoint the exact location of hidden leaks. Here are some methods they might employ:
1. Acoustic Listening Devices
Plumbers use sensitive acoustic listening devices to detect the sound of water escaping from pipes. These devices amplify the sound of the leak, helping the plumber locate the source without tearing apart your walls or floors.
2. Thermal Imaging Cameras
Thermal imaging cameras are invaluable in leak detection. They detect temperature differences in your walls or floors, highlighting areas where water may be accumulating. This non-invasive method allows a Coolangatta plumber to find leaks without causing unnecessary damage to your home.
3. Moisture Meters
Moisture meters measure the moisture levels in your walls and floors. High moisture levels can indicate the presence of a hidden leak. Plumbers use these meters to identify areas that need further inspection.
4. Pressure Testing
Pressure testing involves measuring the water pressure in your pipes. A pressure drop can indicate a leak. Plumbers isolate different sections of your plumbing system to identify the area where the pressure drops, helping them locate the leak.
How Do Plumbers Fix Hidden Leaks?
Once a Coolangatta plumber has detected a hidden leak, the next step is to fix it. The repair method depends on the location and severity of the leak. Here are some standard techniques:
1. Pipe Repair and Replacement
If the leak is due to a damaged or corroded pipe, the plumber may need to repair or replace the affected section. This might involve cutting out the damaged portion and soldering a new piece of pipe.
2. Epoxy Pipe Lining
Plumbers may use epoxy pipe lining to repair leaks in older pipes. This method involves coating the inside of the pipe with epoxy resin, sealing any cracks or leaks. This technique can extend the life of pipes without the need for extensive excavation.
3. Leak Sealing Compounds
In some cases, plumbers use specialised leak-sealing compounds to patch small leaks. These compounds are applied directly to the leak, forming a watertight seal.
4. Slab Leak Repair
A specialised approach is required if the leak is under a concrete slab. Plumbers may use jackhammers to reach the pipe and repair it. Alternatively, they might use trenchless repair methods, such as pipe lining or pipe bursting, to fix the leak with minimal disruption.
Preventing Future Leaks
Preventing future leaks is just as important as fixing existing ones. Regular maintenance and inspections by a Coolangatta plumber can help catch potential problems before they become significant. Here are some tips to keep your plumbing in top shape:
Regular Inspections: Schedule annual plumbing inspections to catch potential leaks early.
Monitor Water Bills: Monitor your water bill for any unexpected increases.
Check for Signs of Leaks: Regularly check your home for water stains, mould, or damp spots.
Maintain Water Pressure: High water pressure can strain your pipes. Use a pressure regulator to maintain safe levels.
Conclusion
Hidden leaks can cause significant damage and increase your water bill, but with the help of a Coolangatta plumber, you can detect and fix these leaks before they become an essential problem. By understanding the methods plumbers use to find leaks and their techniques to repair them, you can take proactive steps to protect your home and save money. Regular maintenance and inspections are vital in preventing future leaks and ensuring your plumbing system stays in top condition.
