seb/mark ‘would you still love me if i was a worm’ wip

I am actually nearly finished this for a change but my brain is fried so might be done by Monday

“Would you still love me if i was a worm?” 

He watched as Mark almost juddered forward from where he was sat on the bed. His brows screwed tightly into a frown from confusion as he looked back at the younger man as he tried to even attempt to answer Seb’s question. 

He didn’t love Seb, which was the first problem with that question, and then the second; what would he do with a worm?— he also wanted to punch himself for letting himself even ponder such a stupid question. 

“What—“ he said as he stuttered for the right words, or just any at all, “what the fuck, Seb?”

“so you wouldn’t?” 

“what—“ Mark said again, blinking back at Seb as he squeezed his eyes shut and scrunched his whole face from just how baffled he was that Seb was even asking him let alone how Seb was seemingly expecting a serious answer. 

“Where did that even come from, mate?” 

“i was just thinking,” Seb replied with a small shrug of his shoulders as he sat there still awaiting an answer to his previous question, but he let himself fall back into the pillows on the bed already knowing that Mark wasn’t going to tell him what he wanted to hear. 

“Thinking about what?”

“how much you actually love me,” Seb replied, and Mark just rolled his eyes. He noticed and just bit down on his lip as he still stared through his eyelashes at the older man. 

“How would that even work?” Mark asked, choosing to steer the conversation in any direction but that of his love for the little German that was sprawled out in the bed in front of him. “Would you be a tiny little worm or would you be your size and a worm?”

“i’d just be a worm,” Seb said with a little huff, not even lifting his head from the pillow and almost looking defeated from Mark’s refusal to answer his definitely not obscure question,

Malcabel WIP I guess

(They’re all horribly out of character in this, but I want them to be happy, god dam it! And I almost certainly misspelled Tavy’s name, but that’s just dyslexia for you. @lescahiersdesable)

  It was all Catarina Loss’s fault really.

  “Honestly, Malcolm,” the sky blue warlock had told Annabel’s husband when he’d called her positively panicking about being in charge of her (many times removed) nieces and nephews for a day, “why don’t you and Annabel just take the kids to the beach?”

  Trusting his friend’s judgment more than his own had been a rather terrible idea, Annabel thought amusingly as she watched the blond warlock race down the shoreline, waving his arms like a mad man, shouting that under no circumstances were the children to poke at that beached jellyfish with a stick, yes, Tiberius, even if it was already dead.

  After some whining (the children) and some poorly concealed begging (Malcom), the Blackthorn kids dispersed into the water and across the sand.

  Malcolm trudged back up the beach, and stood at the edge of the shade thrown by the umbrella stabbed into the ground.

  Annabel looked up from her drawing pad, her black brows furrowing in irritation at the shadow her husband had abruptly cast over her sketchbook. “You’re blocking my light.”

  His pale skin flushed a delicious raspberry red as he stammered out an “Oh, right, sorry” and moved to sit beside her on the blanket, smiling sheepishly. After a moment of comfortable silence, Malcolm absentmindedly ran his hand down her arm, stopping only to trace the black lines, curves, and whorls of her Runes. His touch was soft and light as a feather. “What are you drawing?”

  “You obviously.”

  “Obviously.” A pastel sketch of Malcolm in his striped bathing suit, looking tall and thin and almost frail, with softness to his frame and features that matched his disposition. A feint, salmon-pink sunburn on was his face and shoulders, and his lips were cracked (Annabel would solve that one way or another, either by the gifting him the tube of chapstick she’d squirreled away in her purse or by kissing him until he couldn’t breathe).

  “The kids.” Ty and Livvy and some golden-haired Mundane boy that Annabel didn’t know chasing a seagull. Mark and Helen teaching Tavy how to build a sandcastle. Dru, Julian, and a different golden-haired child that Annabel didn’t know, this one a Shadowhunter girl with a spill of bright curls and a practice training sword, diving into the ocean and swimming around in the shallows.

  “Church.” The fat, blue feline crouched down in the dunes, fluffy tail held erect, eyes focused on a mouse in front of him, mere seconds away from a pounce that Annabel knew would end in failure.

  “The L.A. Institute.” An imposing building that Annabel didn’t think could ever have the ability to look homely.

  “Home.” A snapshot of their living room, a Polaroid pinned with a paper-clip for reference, Malcolm’s latest draft of the Codex — her illustrations not yet accompanying his neat, meticulous writing — spilling off the end table onto the soft, red couch, one of Annabel’s favorite mugs (which would always be filled with tea, Annabel and Malcolm both hating the taste of coffee) filled with paint-streaked paint brushes and colored pencils.

  “And my first love, the sea.” Cerulean and cobalt-blue waves crashing to the shore.

  “Should I be jealous?” Malcolm had moved from her arm to her hand, gently interlacing their fingers together.

  “Oh, immensely. Definitely.”

Victorian Era Fanged Four Fic Recs

So, like, my absolute comfort fic genre is that old staple that used to be such a standard, though you pretty much never see it anymore, and that makes me very sad. It's works set in the Victorian era, when the gang were all together and happily evil, William's a bebe fledgling learning the ropes, and you got this family unit/polycule that's simultaneously brutal as hell but kinda sweet and domestic. I will devour this fic, especially if the historical detailing is on point, and apparently some others wanna see this trope too so lemme spread the love and massacres.

Warning: A LOT of this fic contains noncon and torture and oodles of murders. If you want to know detailed warnings for a given piece, DM me. I'm also including some fics that are pre-Will's embrace but still Victorian and honourable mentions to a couple of Georgian era Darla/Angelus ones.

Ensemble Works

Peasantverse by Peasant - A goddamn masterpiece. The absolute foundational example of this genre. A series of works starting with William's siring (deliberately vague who did the deed itself) and going through the following years. Lots of intriguingly plotty stories, just so many, and everyone in the family gets some love. The historical detailing is absolutely wonderful, the dynamics are wonderful, worldbuilding is fantastic, with some delightful lil footnotes to give extra context to some of the historical points.

A Winter's Tale by Coquette - A road trip of sorts. I love it so. The fanged four on a journey Oop North. Truly engrossing, viscerally descriptive. Followed by Temper which is, sadly, a long abandoned WiP but still worth a read.

Queen's Gambit by Josey - Lots of plotty intrigue and politics and gorgeous detail. 'The year is 1880 and the family is sorting things out amongst themselves. Plus politics – and that’s never pretty.'

Thank you so much for the tag @reallyreal-madeingold!! It was long, so I thought I'd make a new post I did not know you wrote a Willow/Spike, and I am going to have to check it out tonight I adore them.

1. How many works do you have on Ao3? I have 122 works on my Ao3

2. What’s your total Ao3 word count? 887,007, which for some reason made me laugh really hard, seven little words.

3. What fandoms do you write for? Mostly for Supernatural, but I've written for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Spider-man/Deadpool, Merthur, Arrowverse, and starting to write some more DC stories

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

Distraction: Scars - One of my favorites of mine, a spideypool story.

5. Do you respond to comments? I do! I love comments, I normally respond to them whenever I'm updating a story or posting a new one anymore though so sometimes it takes me a bit to get back to people, but I do!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Umm I feel like I've answered this before, but I don't remember what I said and now I don't know what to say. Maybe Not Yet? It is a prequel to Waiting for the Perfect Time and without reading that one, it does not have a happy ending.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I feel like I write a lot of bittersweet and untraditional happy endings. I leave them in a better place than they were a lot of the times, but they are not always happy. Despite my want to always go for no happy endings I tend to write them anyway. But~ ah I think maybe Conversations in the Dark I feel like that one is pretty optimistic at the end.

8. Do you get hate on fics? No I wouldn't say hate maybe some discouraging comments but not hate, no.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Hahaha, I write porn, let's be clear. It's not sex there is a difference. Ah, I write a lot of rough stuff, some bloody stuff, some soft loving stuff, mmm, and I've been starting to write some more variations of bodies doing it. So that's fun

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I don't write crossovers, but I have done a crossover between two of my stories, and it was crazy. It was like two years in the making and it was so much fun. Taste of Cherry is a crossover between a very rom-com soul bond sabriel fic I wrote and a dark horror-themed version of sabriel. It was thrilling to have them meet and play off each other.

11. What's the craziest one you've written? Totally missed this one before but ah idk I write some weird stuff. Maybe Holy Hole? Since I made a world just so I could have a sabriel tentacle smut fic.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yup a few, I am always open to getting my fics translated so more people can enjoy them. I just ask that the translator asks first, tells me, and share the link to the translation so it's easy to find from the original. It's a joy whenever someone wants to.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? I have! It was very recently, and a wonderful experience! Freaks Like Us, is a Buffy verse fic featuring Dru, Spike, and Angelus and lots of smut. It was so fun to write with @aufredpratt and to get help and advice writing women.

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship? Oh, this is so hard, I love so many ships from so many fandoms. I...I don't know especially since it's different when talking about who I'd love to write the most and who I like to read the most. I'm sorry I refuse to choose. x_x

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Once and Future Soulmates. It's an unpublished WIP that I just picked up again yesterday, but it is such a big Merthur project, and I'd love to finish it but also oh my god it's so much.

16. What are your writing strengths?  I'm bad at these kinds of questions. I think characterization and world-building. I like poking at stuff until it breaks and then making sure it won't do that. My worlds have many layers that never come up, but they're there.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Fight scenes (though I think I'm getting better... maybe), word choice, and conveying fear and some other emotions.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? Unless its one I'm fluent in, or have someone who is helping me I probably won't and find another way to convey language being said in another language.

19. First fandom you wrote for? Lord of the Rings~~

20. Favourite fic you’ve written? Still Distractions: The K-word/Distractions: The New Kid. They both overlap the same year in Spideypool's relationship. I love how it came out and I will always be happy to have written out my HC comic mass up of them. Maybe they're just still my all-time OTP....

Hi friend, thank you for the asks. Going to place the answers under a cut to save peoples' dashes since I will probably ramble for both of these.

📖"What has surprised you about your WIPs?"

I'll admit that, while I know the overall plot of the story and how it ends, I've been surprised by quite a lot while writing the various stories that make up this series. The biggest one was when I finally figured out how to marry the plot of the story I wanted to tell to the original 'canon' of the campaign the story is set within.

When I first came up with Fangthane's Folly and The Wizard's Tale, the various villains were all fairly disparate, with only some of them having any real connection to one another. I was fine with this as the antagonists of the story were, originally, just going to be the various issues in Fangthane and the villains almost entirely dwarves for Fangthane's Folly, and the Council of Toreguarde and the Cabal for The Wizard's Tale.

However, once I started re-reading the notes of the sessions leading up to why Meredith had to leave her party, I realised that, under the surface, all the various story threads could be connected. The minute I figured out how they all fit together, I was completely surprised by how consistent the whole thing was. One event lead into another, lead into another in a huge, messy yarn ball of political b.s between two city-states that should, by all rights, be allies. Credit does need to go to Dru for getting that political b.s ball rolling, though. I might not have noticed it if she didn't point it out first.

That surprise has lead to a much more consistent story across both the 'The Wizard's Tale' and 'The Troubles of Meredith Gruksdottir' (of which Fangthane's Folly and the Anvil's Fall' is a part) series.

❤️"What are your favorite scenes from your WIPs?"

For Fangthane's Folly, I think my favourite scene is definitely the nightmare Meredith has once she's stuck in a cell by Grimbeard. I adore the imagery and the overall message of the nightmare. The utter panic and confusion that Meredith feels in that moment is pretty palpable. For a story based on the song 'I See Fire' by Ed Sheeran, I'm pretty dang proud of it. And it foreshadows events that take place much later down the line, which doesn't hurt.

For The Wizard's Tale, this question is quite a lot harder. I have so many, but there is a scene quite late into the story 'To Heal a Broken Soul' that I love and adore because of how intense it feels:

It's the one where Edwin is trying, to save Selene's life and is casting Heal after Heal after Heal after Heal, only to have every last one rebuffed. And, since Edwin is a Cleric of a nature deity, all he's succeeding in doing is growing an almost literal jungle in Selene's bedroom. It took several edits to get it to the level of intensity that I wanted, but I think the current version is just the right level of frustration, grief, anger, exhaustion and desperation that I wanted.

As you can see, I like it when scenes are emotionally intense and I can get into the nitty-gritty of the characters' feelings. The poetic imagery of these kinds of scenes also helps.

Technicolour Nightmare is a kind of a surprise, because I don't think it's one of my better fics, and was a half-assed kinda throwaway story about a feverish HoK being rescued and cared for. For the longest time the top fic has been Flowers and Ice which never surprised me given that it's very much about Everyone worrying about Martin doing something stupid, and then descends into the HoK worrying about everyone, and ends with the promise things will be better. Avoiding the Emperor is also not a surprise, since it was the very first thing I posted on AO3.

5 – Do you respond to comments?

I try my hardest to, when I get them.

6 – What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Of those posted, it's probably Bitter Winds and Rain, which is about Aderyn not handling Martin's coma well. Young Dagger, False Dream which is drafted but not yet posted, comes a close second with Alexis feeling forced out of the group she thought were her friends after an ideological split.

7 – What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

TIL a lot of my fics have an upbeat ending XD At First Blush takes the win, I think, with Methredhel and Rhiannon's kiss.

8 – Do you get hate on fics?

Gotta get comments to get hate, eh? The worst I had was on Tumblr for No Rose Without a Thorn, where someone was rude about the OC I was writing about (wasn't even my OC - I'd borrowed someone else's which might be why it made me angry).

9 – Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Nope. I have tried and tried and decided it's not for me. It's never been published, because it makes me cringe at how bad it is. The most you'll get from me is some heavy petting and a fade to black.

10 – Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Dinner Time is probably the wackiest crossover posted, with the main Trio from Oblivion and some characters from Fighting Fantasy World of Titan. I also started a crossover with the Trio from Oblivion and the main characters from Thunderbirds (2015), but that's unlikely to see the light of day

11 – Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge.

12 – Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, but I'd be honoured if anyone ever wanted to.

13 – Have you ever co-written a fic?

Not a fic, no. I tried co-writing an original story and it did not go well, and has soured me towards the idea TBH.

14 – What's your all-time favorite ship?

That I've written, I suppose I have to say Martin/Baurus since I've written 26 fics about them... By fave to read though is Bilbo Baggins/ Thorin Oakenshield (Bagginshield). TBH though, shipping isn't something that I really bother with much; Martin/Baurus was for a friend.

15 – What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Her Lonely Shadow is currently the top contender. It's the 'what happens next for Alexis Dalliance' story, set after the end of her campaign and before Elo's campaign. I've been writing it since 22 Apr 2015, it's still on the 1st draft sitting at 174,266 words. I don't feel like it's ever going to be finished...

16 – What are your writing strengths?

Pacing, the balance of prose to dialogue, descriptions, and character voice.

17 – What are your writing weaknesses?

Plotting, subtext, and making sure 'c' grade characters still have some 3d-ness to them.

18 – Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

All for it. I think it's fun for a character who doesn't speak that language to have to figure things out from body language or other social cues, or muddle through with their broken skills. In fantasy it's less risky though, because you can mash words out that sound good, but for IRL languages, you need to take a bit more care. One would hope, however, that if a native speaker has an issue with something I've used Google Translate for, they would mention it in the comments so I can fix it.

He had sat there beside Mark in the Sky Germany interview, twiddling his feet around each other, twiddling his thumbs and just about everything else with a stupid grin on his face because he couldn’t believe that he was sat next to Mark in an interview for fucking Sky Germany. It was his last race in f1 and this was how it was being spent. He had pinched himself so many times in the past couple of minutes because he still couldn’t believe that Mark was sat a few mere centimetres away from him talking about their past; talking about him. 

His Mark. 

He couldn’t get the stupid grin off his face no matter how hard he tried, and he couldn’t even listen properly to what Mark was even saying because his mind was too far away on a different planet. 

But then Mark looked at him with that look in his eyes and all Seb could do was try his fucking hardest just to stay upright. His grin so big that he was sure it met his ears, and he felt his eyes grow double in size as he stared back at Mark as he tried to figure out what Mark had said for him to look at him that way. 

It was the look he always longed for Mark to give him all those years back. 

A look full of admiration and love; a look that he only dreamt of all of those years ago.

And suddenly he was hit with all those terrible memories, and he wanted to go back. He wanted to relive all of those agonising nights and lonely terrorising morning afters. He wanted them to fall back into old times and what he would give up just to go back to their time at Red Bull. 

Those moments that had been so painful at the time. Painful, but so fucking beautiful.

Tell me about some inspirations for you original works, whether those be conscious "I need something like this in my story" inspirations, or ones where you've realised later, "Oh this probably influenced my stuff now that I think about it".

I love to hear about what things inspire others.

Sorry for taking so long to respond! This is such a good ask and I want to talk about all my wips, but I'll just pick one.

Nova Futurum was inspired by many things. Directly, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Ghost in the Shell, and mechas like from Neon Genesis Evangelion. After some thought, some stuff from Blade Runner 2049, Akira, and Minority Report (2002). There is also this y2k Digimon movie that is so fucking cool that I love and it really inspired me from a young age. Like it might not have been amazing but I still liked it and it influenced me so idgaf.

It's also directly inspired by a different one of my works which is an original OC species called Mechangels. I really like that work a lot but it's on the backburner for now.

I've mentioned this before but another source of direct inspiration for Nova Futurum is the Kowloon Walled City and the culture that was built after stacking buildings so close together and maximizing the amount of space being used. I know a lot of people are inspired by the same city and get orientalist but I do not intend to take that route. Nova Futurum is American and it's based on the idea of "how can America get even worse?" and the like.

I'm such a fucking nerd about cyberpunk media, especially cyberpunk anime, which is a bit funny because I haven't seen a lot, just some. But what I've seen i've thoroughly enjoyed. I'll take any cyberpunk media recommendations, ofc, but I don't guarantee any timeliness about when I watch/read it.

Omg thank you for asking!!! :D I've written a little about the series here and here, but I'll discuss more below! Specifically Reader and Jade's relationship! (please forgive me for rambling. orz)

Originally, their relationship was going to be complete strangers! The early concept for DRU was a story that followed serial killer Jade as he looks for his next victim at speed-dating events (like a charming wolf eel in sheep’s skin). At one particular event, he meets Reader and the two of them click. From there he decides he’ll make her his next meal.

This was a concept I quite liked and it almost became the foundation for the story. But the more I considered it, I realized it might feel like a hollow plot without much dimension if it focused solely on Reader and Jade. I kept thinking, someone out there has to care enough for (Name) to want to look for her, right? The world may be stagnant when she’s trapped in Jade’s home, but beyond that it will inevitably continue. So surely someone will notice she’s missing. I want to portray that side, too.

Additionally, I wanted to write a story where readers can care about and root for the MC’s successes while actively hoping for Jade’s failure. I thought it would hurt more if Reader was on friendly terms and knew Jade before the kidnapping. It is said that many kidnappings are often someone you know rather than a stranger, so I thought it would be interesting to explore Reader’s fear and betrayal as she realizes her “friend” was never a true friend to begin with! And with this I considered dynamics and relationships outside of the main pairing (Jade x Reader). In the early plot, Reader wasn’t acquainted with any of the Octavinelle trio, but I eventually changed this factor when I began to write the improved version of the plot (which would also include the slow burn elements).

The early plot looked something like this: serial killer Jade kidnaps (Name) after connecting at a speed-dating event -> (Name) is terrified and lies about being pregnant to survive -> many terrifying things happen -> death of (Name) -> Jade gets to feast. Initially, I was content with this plot because it was sickening and thrilling, but it felt like something was missing. ^^;;; I worked hard to rewrite many aspects of the plot until it became a completely different version from my original imagining of it. :O

I thought it would be fun if Azul had an involvement with Reader. At first I wondered if they should be in a genuinely romantic relationship, but I liked the tension of a fwb situation much more. I like that Reader’s able to use Azul as her scapegoat in this situation. His presence is as useful as it is burdensome in her life. >:) it’s a transactional relationship that will make you wonder if there’s actual love there or just lust in disguise! Also, how else could Azul pull off his fake proposal if it was a real relationship without any strings attached? I really wanted to write a scene like that, but it would be more tense if Reader was constantly walking the tightrope of love or not love! Their relationship feels like the deep sea to me. What you see in the story isn’t even part of it. So much has yet to be explored… :)

As for Cater and Riddle, they were added as an afterthought. When I sat down to write the first chapter in summer of 2022, my mind blanked and I had no idea how to begin. Prior to plotting DRU, I was working on a wip in which Reader works part-time at a diner with Cater and Riddle. That (now abandoned) wip is where The Devil’s Delight comes from (as well as the Cater/Riddle/Reader friendship)! I was so attached to the aesthetic and the dynamics between the trio that I couldn’t just let it wither away into oblivion. So I worked it into DRU’s plot. It fit wonderfully with my vision, and so I could write smoothly from there! As a result of that, I’m very fond of DRU’s first chapter. :D it sets the mood I was hoping to convey perfectly!

Here are some notes from the (abandoned) wip that made it into DRU (aside from that note about the Mostro Lounge hehe):

I wanted Reader to have unique relationships with each of the side characters (not just Jade), as well as the characters themselves to have interactions with one another. I like portraying two sides of a thrilling crime story such as this one. There are plenty of exciting things planned, and a lot of relationship lore is set to be unveiled gradually. Oh this is a tough question to answer since all my WIPs and series are basically one, huge story at this point. I think the one point I would teleport to would probably be to just after Merri's trial, when Laurence went to go "have words" with the Fangthane Council. Mostly to stop him from screwing up the celebrations and let the whole party attend Merri's wedding, damn it! Goddamn token human messing everything up and getting everyone kicked out of Fangthane early *muttergrumblecurse*. Sadly, I cannot change what happened in the roleplay canon as I do not have a time machine.

Another point in the timeline I'd like to rectify, and yet cannot, is that final battle against Darkhide. The angst potential there was too real. It's such a shame it was so much of a mess.

🧥 Coat: Where do you feel most comfortable writing or brainstorming?

I feel most comfortable writing at home at the table. I do have a lovely stand for my laptop now, but it needs a hard surface for me to type comfortably these days. As for brainstorming, that always happens when I'm out for a walk in nature and alone. Or at least with someone who isn't constantly talking. I also do sometimes brainstorm while riding public transport and am able to listen to music, but I can't rubberduck plot points or character conversations aloud to myself without everyone else getting disturbed.

☕ Coffee or Tea: How often do you feel like you need to take breaks or unwind from working on your story?

I do take regular breaks from working on any given story, usually after a week or two. In those cases, when I don't have many obligations, distractions or things to stress over, I'll hop onto another story for a week or two and rinse and repeat. I can take extended breaks from writing altogether, though when these happen and how long they are tends to be random as it is dependent on anything else going on in my life.
