1. Canon / Outright Reject

I'd just have to reject the sequels for this one. While I'm not against the portrayal of Leia in the sequels since she's still pretty much in character, I hate hate hate how the narrative treats her.

First of all, she doesn't deserve any of the crap she dealt with in that era after fighting so very hard for freedom and losing so much. It just hurts that she has to watch it all crumble around her being the only one with the sense to know it. And the fact that it's her child that causes a lot of it.... ooooo that pisses me off

Second, I HATE when female characters become reduced to mother figures. Before anyone comes at me for that, it's because when that happens, I can't help but notice that suddenly nobody sees a woman as a person, but instead, just "mother." Leia is a character in her own right but now she's "Ben's mother." And with too many Skywalker men already, I'm tired of Skywalker women getting the short end of the stick.

9. Scene that made me fall in love with the character

Look no further than the gif above 😊. Her very first scene immediately made an impression on me when I was a kid and first saw Star Wars. Knowing that this WOMAN had something so very important to do and held such a high position. She was a PRINCESS and growing up, princesses were viewed as weak little things just meant to marry. But this princess was a leader in her own right. And the way she spoke to Darth Vader all guts when his own men quiver in fear at him.... just chef's kiss.

10. Best moment on screen

Hmm so many good ones... toss up between sassing Vader and her handling and choking of Jabba. This woman just has more balls than anyone ever will. Just anytime Leia stands up to someone that usually most fear. Luke went with diplomacy in regard to Jabba, Leia bargained with a detonator in her hand. You can't get more badass than that.

23. If they were a scented candle, what would they smell like?

I feel like people will disagree but I think Leia would be an earthier kind of candle. Something that would emulate a forest like basalm and cedarwood, fresh fallen leaves in Fall, etc.

She's just so grounded as a person and also Alderaan being a more mountainous and forest-y place, it just feels right.

32. Something guaranteed to make her smile

Luke and Han bickering 🤣. But seriously, I think she's loves her droids, animals, and other fuzzy lil friends. She's just such so sweet and gentle with Lola and Wicket. Well... maybe not C3PO but who is? 😂 I just adored how she burned her dickhead cousin when he was rude to the droid and how sweetly she showed Wicket she's not a threat.

I also think anytime Han shows his softer side because she knows how he's usually so guarded and it give her feels that he is comfortable with her.

44. Their happiest memory

I believe it's a combo of when she's reunited with Bail and Breha again in the end of Kenobi and when the Rebellion wins in ROTJ.

Hard to explain why but that's the feeling I get. I just know that Leia must have been thinking about her TRUE parents when the Empire fell. Bittersweet but happy nonetheless.

And in a personal headcanon, I like to think that when she was gifted with Lola, that def is a happy place in Leia's mind. Maybe it was a Life Day gift.

I saw your notes on this post https://www.tumblr.com/moosethren/717347673558155264?source=share you reblogged and I fully agree with what you said in the notes. Firstly, I am very tired of the Star Wars trope of "man adopts child" (we see this in TCW with Ahsoka, Rebels with Ezra, Mando with Grogu, TBB with Omega, Kenobi with Leia, etc) and seeing how the TBB series' narrative is specifically made for the man adopt child trope hurts the series overall, in my opinion.

As you mentioned in your tags, Hunter has practically no personality aside from, literally, "Omega". People will say that his personality has changed due to the changing times and stress, but how he's shown and displayed in the show canon directly is having a personality designed for the main child character and nothing else. He had zero development and has changed absolutely none at all since TBB season one. His decisions are still made solely for the narrative (going back to Cid's for AZI solely because the writers needed to find a way to have them captured, even though they could have contacted Rex or found a medic literally anywhere else) and for Omega. I am doubtful we will see much development for Hunter that isn't revolving constantly around Omega in season three, let alone with the other men. All of the men are developed for her, rather than for themselves or for the sake of them being expanded upon, which completely shortens their purpose to just existing for the narrative and Omega - which none of them deserve.

I want more from the show than we will ever get, and seeing the TCW Bad Batch turning into "men who adopt children" and losing the joking, brotherly love they displayed in TCW. But that's just my thoughts on it, since I saw your tags and became intrigued to see someone else feeling a similar way as myself.

I still don't even know why AZI is with Cid in the first place, when they could have handed him over to Rex where he'd be useful. They went through all that trouble to save him in S1 (Omega nearly died, Crosshair had a huge thing of saving him and her) and then he ends up a frigging waiter droid at Cid's...

There's so many weird decisions/mistakes that TBB does just because of the honestly poor writing at this rate, cause they seem determined to yeah, have the narrative involve purely her. I don't know why the show isn't just called "Omega". And I get it, she's the person the audience/kids sees stuff through but come on... I expected to watch stuff about the Bad Batch and their relationships with each other, in a show called The Bad Batch. Now it's just a few men following this kid around and letting her decide everything and get them into trouble with no consequences.

(spoilers but I guess you've seen it all) Also because this is getting LONG.

Ever since the end of S2 my interest has plummeted because my fave character was offed after having had a 'full character arc with OMEGA' (since that's clearly all that matters), Hunter's only personality trait is being a 'dad' and I'm not interested in that either. Poor Wrecker has so much potential but it's squandered per usual and Echo's just kinda there, when he seems much happier being with Rex. Crosshair is my second fave but he's gonna be trapped with Omega which means his writing is going to go from really good to well, not that great.

What's worse, there's yet another media that is going towards the same trope atm and I'm frankly losing it. It seems like it's just me and one other who really dislike the trope (and you, which, yay, we're not alone 😂) I could go on about this for ages but I know it's a very unpopular opinion. But it's honestly ruining the show for me. And the trope, which I used to kinda like.

Imagine a show based on an adult sibling dynamic, which we're sorely lacking.

But again I'm the wrong audience for this and shouldn't have expected anything else, and at the moment I don't trust these writers anymore. (plus them killing off the autism rep sits really wrong with me.)

I want to like Omega (even if I'm not a big fan of child characters in the first place) but her writing and the show's direction makes it very difficult.

At the moment I'm re-writing the entire show without her in it and I'm honestly having much more fun making the Batch work together through this ordeal. Sure, I have a few OCs involved but they're not removing the Batch's claws as it were. But since the canon show is kinda just eh to me atm, that's my solution to it, so if anyone's upset about that well... they have a whole show out there to enjoy.

I'm glad for those who do like where the show is going and who love the trope 'cause they're being fed well, but the rest of us, well, some of us are getting salty and that's okay too.

Pre Vizsla. The SW fandom has… weird and unpredictable standards for which villains are socially acceptable to find cool and which ones are universally hated, and for whatever reason he seems to fall firmly into the latter, lol. He is interesting, though!

I love a dramatic ham. Charismatic extremist leaders are fascinating to me. His (second) character design is understated but badass. He’s a pivotally influential figure in mandalore’s modern history. I’ve given up hope that TCW era mandalorian lore/subplots/charas will ever be used or developed further in canon in a satisfactory way, but if they do, I would love to learn more details about his past.

Gotta say fanon Luke Skywalker. He’s been flanderized beyond recognition into a soft uwu babby uke in way too much of the fandom, lol, it’s a disservice to his character and particularly annoying/problematic/sus that it almost always goes hand in hand with headcanoning him as gay. Nuclear take but I actually like the dumb filler TCW episodes that focus on Jar Jar or the droids or whatever, most of them are actually kinda funny and a nice breather from the important parts of the story.

A/N: Hi anon! Thank you for your request! The prompt and the title sound angsty but I swear to you this is nothing but fluff because I keep writing angsty stuff and I needed a soft Poe moment for once.

#48. Using your body to shield them from attack.

Pairing: Poe Dameron x reader

Word count: 982

Warnings: BB-8 goes rogue.

There was an unspoken deal among the Resistance in which everybody knew that the little hill of grass behind the base was yours. Poe’s and yours. Your spot to unwind after battles, to rest after training sessions, to be with each other when you needed peace.

That place had been your spot through the whole afternoon. Poe was resting - finally, and on Leia’s orders -, sitting by your side as he read something on his pad. The only noise came from BB-8’s rolling sounds against the grass and the distant murmurs of the landing bay; but there was no need to talk, your silent company was more than enough for him, not needing more on his day off than to know you were close without anyone interrupting.

BB-8 came and went in front of you, falling into the little game you always got into whenever there was time for it. The little droid had been thrilled the day you discovered the game; you pushed his body down the steep, letting him roll down to the bottom, and he would roll back up only to repeat it again, over and over again. The happiest beeps were heard every time he saw you walking up to them.

“You know, if it tires you-” Poe spoke from beside you without looking up from the report he was reading.

“Are you kidding me? It's actually quite relaxing.” The smile in your lips as you answered gave it away.

“Pushing the droid down a hill is relaxing?” His eyebrow quirked up as his eyes did to find yours, a smirk playing on his lips once he found them. Poe’s little heart could only take too much, doing flips and turns every time you played with BB-8 with a big smile on your face.

“There’s something about the push that just…” your voice trailed off once BB-8 arrived back between your legs to be pushed again “...it eases off tension.”

A little chuckle reached your ears, a quick, stubbled-filled kiss was pressed against your cheek. “He’s very fond of you.” His hand parked on your thigh, squeezing it before letting his fingers draw patterns on it absentmindedly.

Turning to look at Poe you find him back at his reading, the same smile from before still displayed on his face. You can’t help but linger on him for an extra couple of seconds, the shadows casted from the sun against the trees made his tanned skin glow, yesterday’s stubble was slowly turning into a beard, and even though he was reading something important you could see how his eyes were relaxed without the usual creases running along his forehead.

That’s how it would have been: Poe and you, with BB-8 rolling on the grass of a Yavin IV garden without a war base breathing behind your necks. You were allowed to dream; maybe in a different universe, but always Poe and you.

BB-8 reaches the top again interrupting your thoughts as he nudges your feet, making Poe chuckle. “Sorry Beebs.” You push him again, maybe a little harder this time. “What are you laughing at?”

“I told you BB is fond of you, now he demands your attention.”

“Well, I’m fond of BB’s owner.” Grabbing his pad you toss it softly to the side “And I demand his attention.”

Poe doesn’t even protest, his arms enveloping you in an instant and letting you cuddle against his side. The warmth of his touch crawled all the way up from your thighs, along your arms, until his hand reached the back of your head, tilting it to the side to kiss you deeply. Your back hits the grass with a soft thud, letting his hand explore your waist as his mouth tastes you. You can’t get enough of him, your fingers find the way up to the back of his head to tangle around his curls and all you feel is warm: his chest, his lips, his eyes exploring your face, the sun; it might all be the same thing as far as you are concerned.

“Let’s stay here forever.” He speaks, nose nudging against yours as he is not ready to stop touching you. That steep of grass had everything you and Poe could ever need, you have no doubts of that. “No one’s ever here, we could probably last a whole week right here and no one would even see us.”

“I don’t believe you one bit, Poe.” Your lips reach up to his in a quick peck. “You wouldn’t last more than one day without running back to work again.”

He laughs against your lips before he lifts up to look at you again. “I’m serious this time, I just want- HEY BUD WHAT THE HELL!”

Poe suddenly launches over your body, landing on top of you as he pushes BB-8 away. Peeking over Poe’s shoulder you see BB-8 spinning around, sliding down the hill with something that looks like a taser poking out of his body. Your game had completely slipped out of your mind the second Poe’s arms had wrapped around you, and the angry droid was doing whatever it took to get your attention back.

“Was he about to electrocute me?” Your voice is shocked, but you are still amused.

“Yes, but don’t worry,” Poe dipped back down to kiss you, “I saved you.”

“Oh, my hero, thank you.” You said dramatically wrapping your hands around the base of his head. “What a terrible attack you saved me from.”

“That defected droid won’t attack us ever again, m’lady.” BB’s angry beeps sounded far, the droid completely giving up on continuing the game had decided to roll away from the scene. “Sorry bud!” Poe shouted. ��I’m kind of busy now.” You were not sure if BB-8 heard the last part, since Poe's lips were already against yours once more, finding their spot for the rest of the evening.

hey friend, i've been following your blog for a while now and i absolutely think you should go on a rant about modern sw canon being homophobic! i agree with you and i'd love to hear your points (especially re: anything having to do with tarkin, as im not as familiar with that) (:

ill try to not turn this into like a full six page essay lmao

so basically there are at this point a fair amount of gay/bi characters in sw canon atm... just none appearing on-screen (or at least not being explicitly gay on-screen) except for those two women that kissed for like half a second in tros. so thats point one i guess- all but completely restricting even acknowledgements of gayness to books/comics that dont get nearly as much recognition as the screen media does. 

point two is that theres a pattern of the main characters they choose to make explicitly gay as being... considerably less moral than others sometimes. and im not saying that every single gay character needs to be completely flawless with the sun shining out of their ass at all times, but why cant we get more lead, unquestionably heroic characters to be confirmed gay or bi? we have gay villains (tarkin being sorta confirmed gay in facpov, moff mors who deserves an entire post of her own), and then characters that are more like anti-heroes, or at least heros with darker pasts/tendencies (aphra, sinjir, arguably characters like sana, chass and yrica but those three to a much lesser degree). 

and i dont... dislike those characters. i actually LOVE aphra, shes probably one of my faves, and i loved sinjir and conder in aftermath. i dont really have any problems with their stories at all, it’s just that they’re part of a pattern of characters with sometimes questionable morality (aphra working with vader and happily siccing her droids to torture and murder people etc & sinjir being a torturer for the empire who then joins the rebellion and tortures sometimes for that cause too). like again, my problem isnt that gay characters arent paragons of virtue, its that most characters they happen to make gay also happen to be the morally gray ones. im not really asking for less dubiously good cay characters, just also more solidly heroic gay characters to balance it a bit. 

and they are getting better, there are more solidly heroic main gay characters... its just for every wyl lark or kaedan larte you have a gay imperial officer and an offhandedly mentioned dead pair of husbands. and i also dont think id mind as much if there wasnt a history in film especially where even implying gayness was prohibited unless it was condemned or shown to be immoral. i dont think its intentional, but its hard not to get that vibe when they make their biggest canon lesbian character blow up cute tooka cats for fun lmao (as much as i adore aphra)

and my third and probably final point for now is the deliberate vagueness of things, and the way that they sometimes confirm characters. i think they’re especially egregious about this with bi/pan characters. i dont have the direct quote, but when confirming lando to be lgbt during solo promotion, they essentially said he’s pan because he... has sex with droids and aliens? no mention of you know... being a man attracted to other men, that might be too controversial ig. also i think it was donald glover who specifically said something like “how couldn’t you be pansexual in space, there’s so many things to have sex with” as if thats what being bi/pan is which just... yeah.

and then also in the leia book (a book i really like), the “confirmation” of holdo being bi is when leia says something about sticking to “humanoid males” and holdo tells her “thats limiting” or whatever which a) its a personal pet peeve of mine as a lesbian when people say things like that, even tho its said to a straight person, its just insulting and acts like sexuality is a choice and bi/pan people are more enlightened by choosing not to “limit themselves” and b) in context they’re talking about a like... bug alien or something like that, its been a minute since i read the book but it wasnt just like a humanoid alien woman or anything. so again... being just vague enough to get woke points for your character being lgbt without actually having them express same gender attraction AND equating being bi to just being willing to screw whatever i guess.

and for the record i dont think that this all means star wars is being unforgivably homophobic. i DO think characters like aphra, sinjir and others are good representation, i just dont want characters like that to be our only representation, because thats when things start to get more questionable for me. but like, i think its AWESOME that aphra has her own comic line and audiobook where she’s very explicitly gay, and the fact that she’s probably the most popular modern star wars comic-originated character while being a lesbian seriously makes me happier than i know how to express. i think the fact that the alphabet squadron trilogy made two of its female leads explicitly bi and one of their male leads end up in a relationship with another man is amazing. i love sinjir and conder’s romance being a primary feature of the aftermath trilogy. i think its incredible cool of them to have the bravery to make an iconic character from the original trilogy pan, even if im not a huge fan of the phrasing they used (and would like them to be more explicit about it in future content). like, i dont want to be all negative because i think there is a lot of good rep there. i just know it can be better, and being allowed to criticize it makes me feel better about it, and hopefully will start more conversations that lead to them being more mindful in the future.

Second favorite character: Padme, my poor fave who clone wars did not treat nearly well enough. Where are her handmaidens??? We really got droid episodes and no handmaiden teamup eps??? Why???? We deserve an entire series about their adventures

Favorite pairing: Ahsoka/Barriss!!! Filoni treated Barriss so badly, I pretend I do not see it. Ahsoka/Riyo and Ahsoka/Trace are both good too. And Satine/Obi-wan, I cannot resist a good trope of two people who deeply love each other but are so wholeheartedly devoted to their duty that it just can’t happen yet

Least favorite pairing: Anakin/Padme, Padme/Clovis, Ahsoka/Lux

Finally got around to finishing Queen’s Peril by EK Johnston, which had been languishing in my TBR pile for weeks.

The grain issue turned out to be extremely plot-relevant: Amidala hosts a summit to improve relationships with the neighboring systems in the sector when her inquiries about trade aren’t successful, Panaka gushes about this to his Best Work Colleague Palpatine, and Darth Sidious decides to sic the Trade Federation on Naboo.

(Meanwhile, Sabe and one of the delegates are having Very Gay Moments, much to Padme’s jealousy, lol! They all sneak out of the palace in disguise for  a dance club party, only to be busted because Panaka put a “blood-sensor alarm”  in the queen’s bed, and Sache was having her period.... okay, then.)

Because Naboo is short on grain, that means Naboo only has a limited time before their food supplies run-out, making them uniquely vulnerable to the Trade Federation blockade. It turns out that--conveniently--only the elected Queen can sign treaties with other governments, so Padme is the obvious target when the Nemoidians gets tired of her refusals and straight-up invade. (This doesn’t quite mesh with my previous conception of the queen as a figurehead, but I like to think this is a Quirky Legal Formality anyway.)

The rest of the novel is basically a highlights reel from The Phantom Menace from various POVs. I would say that the book assumes you’ve seen the movies, because I think there’s a lot left unexplained that wouldn’t make sense otherwise.  It feels kind of like a compilation of “missing scenes” from a fanfic (not necessarily in a bad way, just I feel like that’s where I’ve seen this trope before). There’s also a subplot involving two handmaidens and Panaka’s wife fighting droids in an internment camp, but the whole thing feels pretty rushed compared to the relatively slower pacing of the rest of the novel.

Highlights: Sabe and Anakin have a moment where Anakin thanks Sabe for keeping Padme safe. Sabe is touched, because usually no one notices her. Padme and Sabe admit their feelings for each other in a way that’s shippy if you want it to be.

Also, from a world-building perspective, it’s awfully convenient that the Gungans are so easily able to field an army against the Trade Federation. Makes you wonder what they were originally planning on using it for...

Oddly, the last chapter is from Leia’s POV, during the medal ceremony at the end of ANH. It’s obviously meant as a callback to the opening sequence while Amidala waits for the election results, but it just feels... kinda outta place? And again, it assumes you’re familiar with the movies, because there’s nothing in the text itself that makes it clear why the story is pivoting to Leia like that. That’s the other thing that makes Queen’s Peril feel like pro-published fanfic--and again, I don’t mean that as an insult, it’s just odd because most of the other Star Wars tie-ins I’ve read are a little more... self-contained?

Things to like: more focus on Padme and the handmaidens, women being awesome, women talking to each other, re-working The Phantom Menace to emphasize the handmaidens as badass, the fact that all of the handmaidens are easily distinguished from each other by their personalities and skill-sets despite their physical similarities. Also, props for tying in the grain stuff together with the main plot, even if economics and trade don’t feel super-exciting in this context.

I came into the book expecting for Sabe to be my favorite, but I found that Sache really grew on me as a character. I like the gradual reveal so that we don’t immediately find out what her talents are or why Panaka hired her until close to the end, where it’s juxtaposed by her resistance against the invaders. 

(ngl, it’s also refreshing to read something in Disney Star Wars that doesn’t make me want to tear my hair out because of What They Did To My Faves.)

Tell me ALL your SW faves

Aaaaaa thank you!  This took a while cuz this got long, lol sorry!  Aight, so here’s ALL my SW faves for this ask prompt list!

FAVE MOVIE: Revenge of the Sith.  10000%.  It just has everything!  You get to see the Obikin relationship in all its glory, first and foremost, how much those two loved each other more than anything and knew each other better than anyone, and just how much they genuinely got along and then we got our hearts broken watching them have to fight after Anakin made his Goof Of The Millennium and just oooooof all the feels about my boys!  Seeing Padmé and just loving her so gotdang much for being strong and wanting the best life for everyone, all while she was so scared and had so little support from anyone, and just couldn’t do it in the end.  Seeing the end of the Republic, how after a thousand years, just, *poof*, just like that in like two days (yes, I know Sidious was planning it for over a decade but still), the horrific fascination on how Sidious was able to do that.  Just the brilliance of Sheev’s character, how you despise him, but how brilliantly everything was pulled off.  The angst of Order 66, how especially after TCW you love these characters SO MUCH and then you gotta watch them DIE HORRIBLY BY THOSE THEY TRUSTED, THOSE WHO NEVER HAD A CHOICE EITHER.  Did I mention feeling so freaking bad for Obi Wan and his Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day???  Because I really do, he’s so good and kind and we see his life fall apart and ugh I love him.  And y’all, watching Anakin Skywalker fall from grace like the brightest angel he was, you hate him for what he did, but you still can’t help but love him and cry for him and his loss because he was so good, and he did not deserve all this to happen to him but he did it to HIMSELF AAAAGGHHHH.  Also, Obes and Ani were at peak prettiness this movie!!  Just asdfkjglkdskajsrlk best movie love so diggity dang much

FAVE PAIRING: Oh, how EVER will I choose– Obikin.  It’s Obikin, all the way, no contest.  I know I’ve yelled about it a million and one times so I’ll save y’all the rant on how much I adore these disasters and their relationship and how I think they’re goddamn soulmates and the most interesting dynamic in the entire Saga.  I ship them romantically and platonically and just everything, they’re so fucking important to one another and that’s why it hurts so much to watch them fall apart, and that’s why I’m so incredibly happy that they get to canONICALLY SPEND THEIR ENTIRE AFTERLIFE TOGETHER BECAUSE FORCE GHOSTS HELL YEAH.  If I had to pick just secondary fave romantic and platonic relationships, hmmmm that’s hard.  BUT, I’m gonna have to go with Kanera for romantic; SWR was what got me back into Star Wars and one of my favorite parts of it was watching Kanan and Hera, how much I loved them separately, but just how much they were a team together and I love them and I was unbelievably upset when Jedi Night happened (and I still have a rant about how animated Star Wars kills off their romantic couples in the exact same manner, pls ask me about how TCW’s The Lawless and Rebels’ Jedi Night had basically all of the same plot points that ended in killing off a romantic lead).  For other fave platonic relationship, gonna have to go with Luke/Han/Leia BROT3 (separate from Hanleia as a romance, which is probs my 3rd fave).  These disasters were the original Golden Trio, they saved the galaxy together all while yelling dramatically and having each other’s backs to the bitter end (or, at least ‘till the end of ROTJ lol) and I just love them as a team so dang much

FAVE TV SHOW EPISODE: Okay, since there are four TV shows, it’s only fair for me to pick one (or more don’t judge me) from each!  Let’s see, from The Clone Wars, my fave eps have to be the entire Mortis trilogy arc in S3 because Obes/Ani/Snips family dynamic, Force Shenanigans, BEAUTIFUL scene designs, Anakin angst, just so many good things oof, and also Dooku Captured from S1, which I just adore because Obikin snark, annoying Grandpa Dooku, Hondo Fucking Ohnaka making everyone look so bad at their jobs, I just love it agh.  Whoops that was technically four faves, so gotta do four for Rebels too!  Gonna go wiiiiith World Between Worlds from S4 for Badass Ahsoka Tano, Ezra being brave and talented, Sheev being Absolutely Ridiculous, and just the overall Force Shenanigans cuz canon time travel y’all; The Lost Commanders from S2 because Rex is awesome, Kanan angst, and really good Kanan and Ezra bonding and Jedi awesomeness, Fire Across the Galaxy from S1 because of Ghost fam dynamics, Kanan angst, more Kanan and Ezra bonding, and just good stuff, and Twilight of the Apprentice in S2 (lol what about my username?) for being creepy and cool and maKING ME CRY ANAKIN YOU STUPID THRICE COOKED TOILET SEAT LEAVE AHSOKA ALONE.  *cough*  Ok, fine, I’ll stick with only one ep for the other two series.  For Resistance, gonna have to go with the latest ep, actually!  We get to see Kaz being clever and caring about his fam on the Colossus, really cool designs for Aeos and its people, Tam angst, and just everyone shining!  For The Mandalorian, it’s gotta be the finale, Redemption, we get Din name, Armorer kicking everyones asses and me loving it, BABY YODA DOING THE HAND WAVE, Din getting over his issues with droids and connecting with IG only for IG to FUCKING DIE, DIN AND BABY YODA BEING AN OFFICIAL CLAN OF TWO, Taika just knocking this whole episode out of the park with the funny scouttroopers at the beginning who still deserved the ass-whooping they got for fucking murdering Kuiil and hiTTING BABY YODA YOU SLIMY FUCKNUGGETS–

FAVE CHARACTER: Alright, look, I can narrow it down to FIVE and that is IT.  I just love too many Star Wars characters, I can’t go lower than top five!  Ok, so my four favorites are Obi Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Leia Organa, Kanan Jarrus, and Finn Skywalker-Dameron-Tico (i SAID what i SAID.)  AIGHT so for starters, a lot of my favorite characters in different franchises fall under various archetypes I have for faves.  Obi Wan fits one of my more popular ones: “Old, reluctant and more than slightly-questionable parental badass with a mysterious past that makes you love them all the more when you realize just how beautiful and tragic and deserving-better they were when that past is revealed”.  I latched onto this dude from the start when I just liked the OT (tho Leia was always my fave lol), and I wanted to know about him, and then when I finally started getting into the PT and TCW, it was just a steady stream of “oh no he’s hOT?” “oh no he’s sAD?” “oh no he’s nICE?!? REALLY FUCKING NICE AND A BIT OF A MESS HELP” and then I just totally latched on because he’s hypercompetent at literally everything and looks damn good doing it and boy do I have a thing for competence, charming as all hell and goes through so much and comes out strong despite the fact that fate hates his fucking guts and tries to destroy his life constantly and guys he tries so hard and he’s kind of messy sometimes and a bit of a dick and I love him all the more for it because he’s trying, none of that do-or-do-not shit, he is doing his damn best and deserves happiness and not Anakin tearing him apart.  SPEAKING OF SAND MAN.  Ugh, so I love Anakin to fucking death and that makes me REALLY MAD ABOUT IT BECAUSE HE MAKES EVERYONE ELSE I LIKE SAD.  So I love Anakin regardless because he’s not your typical protagonist.  He’s fucking brilliant, hot when he fights, is amazing at fighting and flying and building stuff and there’s that competence thing for me again, oh boy!  He’s funny and kind and he cares.  And somehow, this bitch manages to have the two most beautiful, amazing people in the galaxy in love with him and willing to do basically anything for him like the fuck?!?  Jealous much??!?!?!?!  I am!!!!  He’s so fucking bright and it’s impossible to look away.  He’s also a dorky, messy disaster who’s not good with people or feelings or emotions and he panics over stuff and doesn’t know self-control and is kinda really bad at his job a lot and pushes away the people who care about him and screws up literally all the fucking time and he always feels like he’s drowning and alone and I get to watch him crash and burn under the weight of it all.  Basically, minus the anger issues and the child murder and the murder in general, I kinda relate a lot to Anakin.  I feel like a self-hating mess who doesn’t know how to control my ow head and the world hates me a lot too.  I can project my mental issues onto him, enjoy the good parts of him, live vicariously through the things he does that I can’t like be loved by pretty people and be hot and athletic and smart, and then when he crashes I can side-eye and remember that at least someone’s doing worse than me lol.  So yea, I love this messy boi to death and he’s the one I get the best characterization reviews on, so I guess we have an understanding.  Leia I loved since as a kid.  I’d want to be her, brave, talented, smart, strong as hell and snarky to boot.  I realize that Leia fits another fave character archetype of mine: “Powerful young adult raised for greatness, did not ask for all the horrible shit that’s happened to them, highkey wants a break and for the bad guys to just roll over and die, is generally clever, hypercompetent, and 100% done with everyone else’s shit, overdramatic as all hell and enjoys insulting people”.  Her and Han were my first Star Wars ship and she just always made me happy seeing her kick names and take ass.  She’s gone through almost as much hell or maybe more so than Obi Wan, she also keeps getting back up and fighting, she deserved SO MUCH BETTER than what the Sequel Trilogy gave her and you may quote me on that.  She’s also gorgeous and I wanted to wear all of her clothes (bikini not included).  I also love her relationship with Luke and I am so goddam happy it is now canon that Leia Organa did Jedi training and can use a lightsaber!!!  She has a lightsaber!!!!!!!!!!  Ugh oof I love her.  Kanan fills the similar “mentor” archetype as Obi Wan does, but with a smidge of youth because he’s younger when he gets dropped into this role.  He’s more of a punk, more of a mess, and oof.  Basically I’ve said it a zillion times how Rebels resparked my love of Star Wars, but really, it was Kanan on the screen that did it.  It happened when the Rebels season 3 premiere eps ended up on the TV and I saw it and I thought in order 1. holy shit that Maul fucker’s actually alive? and 2. Oh no sad blind Jedi man!  He’s cool and mysterious and I want to know why he’s sad and who made him sad and also want to give him a hug!!!  He was my fave character all throughout Rebels and his training dynamic with Ezra, struggling to help this kid all while flying by the seat of his pants because he had Issues and no clue what he was doing and no support and ugh, he was smart and brave and I’m so sad he’s dead and yea.  Finn!!!!  Last but not least!!!!  He was my favorite character from The Force Awakens.  People have said it before, but he was just so new, a rebel Stormtrooper stolen and brainwashed at birth, finding the good guys and fighting to do the right thing!  Possibly Force Sensitive!  Super duper cute!!!  Funny and kind, dammit, when not many other people in the galaxy were!!!!!!!!  I was so, so sure Finn was gonna be a Jedi along with Rey at some point, that might have been my biggest letdown when I saw TLJ, but ugh I just loved his enthusiasm and his war within himself, ultimately loving his friends and trying to do what was right at the risk to his own safety, even though that was why he ran scared in the first place!!!!!  I shipped him with Rey and with Poe and now I am NOT above the post TROS Jedistormpilot shipping!!!!!  Finn was just always the most interesting part of the Sequel Trilogy for me and I personally feel like they could have done more with his character.

FAVE ACTOR/ACTRESS: Aight, so I try my best not to “stan” anyone famous because literally no one is perfect and everyone’s done something problematic at some point and if I dare say I like a famous figure, someone’s gonna find something about them and come after me all “OMG THIS PERSON DID/SAID/IS X YOU MONSTER GO DIE!!11!!1″.  In terms of performance, I think all the actors in Star Wars did a lovely job and I’m happy with all of them!  If I had to crush on any, it would probs be Ewan McGregor, John Boyega, or Diego Luna cuz, uh, they hot.  If I had to pick one I liked most, it would honestly probs be Carrie Fisher.  Maybe that’s just partially from missing her now that she’s gone, but I really admire her advocacy and transparence for mental health, and she just seemed like such a funny, kind, strong person.

FAVE PLANET: Aight, this is HARD and I refuse to only pick one planet!  Ok, gonna start off with Coruscant because an endless city planet made up of lights is amazingly gorgeous and it has a Jedi Temple stacked on top of a Sith Temple and is just so cool aaaaa.  Also love Felucia just for being so bright and colorful and pretty.  Mortis for being just as weirdly gorgeous and also Weird Force Shit.  Lothal for the beautiful mountains, the wolves, and the fucking lightspeed center of the planet passage what, Dathomir is delightfully creepy to look at, Crait is really cool with the salt and the red and the ice foxes, Kashyyyk because Wookiees and it’s pretty and I love their treehouses.  Basically if it makes me clap my dumb monkey hands and go “oooh pretty!”, I love it.  The more “not like Earth” it is, the more I love it.

FAVE SPECIES: Hmmmmm, this is a tough one…….  There’s just so many cool-looking species that we know so little about, ya know?  I wanna say either Togrutas or Wookiees.  Togrutas just because the character design is incredible and so fun to work with and also I love Ahsoka, and Wookiees because they have such an interesting culture and backstory and also I want to give Chewbacca a hug.

FAVE CONCEPT: Uhhh, not quite sure I get the question; you mean like just story concept in general?  If that’s it, I’m gonna have to go with just the whole concept of the Force and the Jedi in general.  I mean George, George my man, what the fuck?  How the hell did you come up with this?!?  Mystical psychic space wizards with magic abilities to connect with and use the sentient godlike life force that combined the entire galaxy together.  Oh and also they have COLORFUL GLOWING LASER SWORDS?!?!?  It’s honestly one of the most creative things I’ve seen in popular culture, and that makes me sad that Star Wars now seems to be trying to separate itself from what I think is its most interesting quality because “ugh not EVERYTHING should be about the Jedi guys!”, when like, y’all, without the Jedi, the entire SW universe is basically just another military scifi war story……  Just my opinion tho.

FAVE SHIP: Ok, since pairing was already up there, I assume this means actual ship?  Well, uh, gonna have to be square with y’all, I’m a bad Star Wars fan for this part; I’ve never been the one to memorize ship names and designs and know the exact make and model number of some fancy ship, I’m real bad at that lol.  I’ll say my favorite ship is the Ghost.  Hera flies it and the Rebels Fam lives on it and it’s super cool and it makes me happy!

FAVE WEAPON: LIGHTSABER.  LIGHTSABER LIGHTSABER.  LIGHTSABERLIGHTSABERLIGHTSABERLIGHTSABERLIGHTSABER.  Y’all, c’mon, what did you think I was gonna pick? xD  Lizard brain want glowy shiny colorful big stick that goes whoosh!

FAVE BACKGROUND EXTRA: Again, not entirely sure what this means, but do you mean fave background character?  If so, then it’s a tie between Wilrow Hood and his ice cream machine for the memes, that one clone in TCW who yeets a plate of toast at Cad Bane’s face, or that one background soldier who scoots between Han and Leia arguing in ESB and also Hera and Kanan arguing in Rebels (yes I do headcanon it’s the same guy lol)

FAVE MOMENT/SCENE: This one’s actually pretty easy.  Anakin dying in Luke’s arms in ROTJ, and then his ghost showing up to Luke later at the Ewok party.  I just care so ridiculously much about stupid Anakin and his stupid story and mistakes, and even before I was a prequels stan and had only seen the OT (and wasn’t a huge Vader fan, believe it or not), some part of me just felt so solemn, so fragile watching this, watching the giant monstrous machine falling apart as he fades away to reveal a weary, tired old human man, and it always made me wonder, what the hell happened to him to turn him into that thing?  Seeing that young, beautiful man, basically Luke’s age, showing up as a ghost later, just the fascination, the tender look he shared with Old Ben, just how young he was, that made it all the more mysterious and knowing what I do now, it’s just so much better because my poor, horrible Disaster Man finally did the right thing and he finally found peace and it’s just the only ending I could be happy for Anakin with,  And Luke, I always felt so bad for Luke, being so strong, so brave, finally getting his father back for like five damn minutes and then having to lose him again and just hurting for him but also knowing that it was gonna be okay because Luke had more family now, the ghosts, and Han and Leia and Chewie and R2 and 3PO and Lando and everyone.

FAVE KISS: Luke and Leia (HANG ON LET ME SPEAK) forehead kiss in The Last Jedi.  I know (this one) isn’t meant as romantic, and I know the question is probs about a romantic one and I know that it’s not even a real mouth kiss.  But.  That Luke and Leia scene was my favorite part of the entire movie.  Again, I was missing Carrie a lot, and ugh, after all these years, after not getting to interact the entire previous movie and not at all during this movie, the ONE scene with Carrie and Mark and the pure emotion of it all just knocked me out of my fucking seat.  You could see how connected they were as siblings, how much Leia had missed Luke, how much he had missed her and how sorry he was for leaving, sorry for Ben, sorry for having to leave her again now, Leia knowing Luke was about to die, and just, acceptance.  Love and acceptance.  It was just a final, tender kiss on the forehead, and it was perfect and yeah.  If I do have to pick a romantic lip smooch, it’s probably the Hanleia classic “scoundrel” kiss in Empire Strikes Back.  I still remember watching ESB the first time as a KID and being all eeeeeeee are they gonna– YES they kissed they kissed they kissed finally! and that’s enough for me.

FAVE FIGHT: Obi Wan and Anakin on Mustafar in Revenge of the Sith.  WIthout question.  It’s brilliantly and precisely choreographed to show the intricate nuances of the Obikin breakup in alllllll of its painful glory.  It breaks my heart every time I watch it because every time I watch it I still hope it’s gonna end differently.  That Anakin realizes he can’t kill Obi Wan and ditches Sidious and goes back with Obi Wan to save Padmé.  That Obi Wan realizes he can’t let Anakin die and saves him from burning and from Sidious and takes him back too.  That Obi Wan at least puts Anakin out of his misery which would be godawful painful, but would save him from the horrid life as Vader.  That while they’re fighting, a lava monster appears like in the concept art and Vader and Obi Wan have to put aside their differences and fight the thing and remember how much they mean to each other.  But ugh, this fight was beautifully choreographed and was originally supposed to be a MULTI-MINUTE SINGLE SHOT WHAT THE HELL???  Oooof Hayden and Ewan did such an amazing job and the whole thing just rips my heart out every time in the bestworst way possible

 FAVE LINE OF DIALOGUE: Now THIS is hard, I’m not the best at picking favorite lines.  Hmmm, this is HARD.  Let me think.  Gahhhh, it’s hard because I have so many lines I like and I can’t even just narrow down a couple!!!  Ultimately, it’s probably gonna be Yoda’s monologue from Empire Strikes Back: “Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter…”  Just that entire line saying how basically all of us are more than the sum of our parts, that everyone is their own sparkling light made of stardust, I loved it as a kid and I love it now.

star wars: tros

ok so here’s a messy review. !! SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY !!

the movie started so promising with Kylo’s scene with Palps, the music, the atmosphere i was so pumped! The we had lots and lots of droid jokes (honestly, why?? so much time spent with 3po and that new droid...for some reason)

Hux is now downgraded by Kylo Ren obviously and decides to go behind his back, not to actually kill him but to bring down the entire FO which makes no sense for a character like Hux. it was done so sloppily too, one moment he saves the rebels, the next he’s killed like a dog by a guy who took his place, whom we’ve never seen before SMH!!!! Kylux is my fave ship, but i always expected them both to die... except this is just lazy writing. With 5 more minutes to spare for Hux, they could have shown him plotting behind Ren’s back or smth, anything but what we’ve got. This was so unfair for a character/villain who delivered such a powerful FO speech in TFA.

Moving on, we get some good fighting (and saving...) between Rey and Kylo Ren. Rey stabbing Ben when he was distracted by his mother’s voice was so OOC for Rey lmao. What even was that....?? We got a look at the Knights of Ren (finally!!!) and the big reveal of Rey’s parentage (while we’re handwaving the fact that we established her parents were nobodies and that mattered bc anyone can be force sensitive, like the boy at the end of TLJ. But apparently no, because Palpatine fucked and had a child, which will haunt my dreams as a thought in and on itself..) ANYWAY, she’s taken aback by this reveal but faces Palpatine. A good scene between them. I loved the voices of all the Jedi talking to Rey, supporting her. Hers and Ben’s bond. 

Now the scene of Ben’s death was just cruel. I’m not a huge Reylo fan, mind you....but i liked their scenes. I would be completely ok with the kiss not happening but having them kiss, Ben smiling, then IMMEDIATELY dropping dead was so sadistic. And then we don’t even get to see her carry his body and burn it like Luke did with his dad because he just vanishes and WE NEVER TALK ABOUT HIM AGAIN. LMAO. wtf. And in the end..after hearing all the time about Rey finally embracing who she is and not being afraid of it, she decides she’s gonna be a Skywalker now bc apparently she doesn’t even want to speak her real surname.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 

Overall this movie, while having a few good scenes here and there, could have been easily written MUCH MUCH better. two years for this? i feel cheated

Is there ANY Ransolm/Leia fic that doesn’t pair them??

Bc I have to admit that Bloodline is one of my faves Star Wars books EVER, and I love how deep and well developed Ransolm Casterfo’s character is (thank you Claudia Gray) but I just can’t see him and Leia as a romantic thing!

She’s definitely more of a mother/big sister figure for him. I ADORE their interactions thoughout the book, most likely bc of their diferent point of views when it comes to politics, but I totally can imagine them in weird, friendly situations. Such as:

- Him really liking a woman (or man, I’m pretty sure he’s bissexual) and asking Leia how did she know Han was the one.... And Leia being like “You don’t wanna compare ur relationship with THAT, we were fucked up” and then him realizing how messed up was falling in love during war-time and how Han/Leia are really bonded. And recieving some unsolicited sex advice too, bc lmao, why not?

- Leia giving Casterfo a fucking torture doid to add to his collection of Imperial stuff, after he made a snarky coment without thinking too much about it. She doen’t tell him what it is, just says “be careful with that one. Trust me, I speak from experience” and weeks later, when he figures out what the round, black droid is he’s like “fuck, sorry.” (I love political tension with these two, but friendship always wins)

- Casterfo giving Leia soup after they went on a mission on a planet where a flu was going around and she REFUSED TAKING THE FRIKING SHOT (he’s mad about it, thinking it’s only her pride or something, but we all know Leia is afraid of needles after her time on the Death Star) so she got the damn flu.

- Casterfo meeting Amilyn Holdo and being like “WTF? how is THAT weirdo your bff?” but being slightly amused at how fluent Leia is at “Holdo”. and Leia being like “we go waaaay back” and telling him stories of her youth.

So, yeah, friends. We all know Leia is Han’s (and Han is Leia’s)

On Zakuul and Thrawn

Yea, I know, weird choice of topics to pair together. But I’ve been thinking about the new Thrawn books and (my fave topic ever) SW:TOR and I’ve had some thoughts™ that I wanted to discuss. Namely around a certain reveal near the end of the first Thrawn novel. Under a cut for discussion of spoilers for BOTH the first Thrawn novel (of the new series that is) AND for spoilers of p much all the swtor content post the base game so like if you haven’t experienced one of those yet and you wanna go in blind stop reading here. :D

So I guess I’ll start with why I’m talking about the Thrawn books on my old republic blog. No it’s NOT just because there’s Chiss in swtor (have i mentioned you can play as a chiss in swtor. because you totally can. it’s great!). Shameless plugs for my fave game aside, it’s because of a conversation Thrawn has near the end of the book with Nightswan, just before Pryce fucks over Batonn. Specifically, about Thrawn’s motives for joining the Empire. Now YMMV about exactly how honest he was being at that point, but this post is gonna operate under the assumption that he was at least telling the truth that there’s something out there in the Unknown Regions scaring the Chiss shitless. And like, the Chiss are fuckin COLD (pun intended), so whatever that is... it’s not smth good.

But Arden, what about the Yuuzhan Vong aka ya kno ‘the thing that was ALREADY in the unknown regions in the old canon’. Yea um sure, I guess Timothy Zahn could bring them back. But like.... that doesn’t mean he HAS to. No offence to hardcore Vong fans, but I tried to get into that era of star wars and well, failed. And sure, he could bring them back, and maybe he will, but imho there are much more interesting things out in the unknown regions for our heroes to face off against in the cinematic era. Such as Zakuul.

Because, and please don’t take away my swtor fan card for this, I think kotfetet was the weakest part of swtor. I also think that Zakuul was a wasted concept. Like, at it’s heart it’s actually kinda cool. It’s a society completely separate from anything the Empire or the Republic. It’s one of those paradises where everything is done by droids, including most of the military work while the citizens live in luxury, sitting above the shitty swamp area where dissidents flee to. It’s got an organisation of force users who don’t subscribe to either the light or the dark, and a fleet powerful enough to kick both the Empire and the Republic’s asses. It’s a genuinely neat concept. It was just... somewhat butchered by it’s introduction.

SoR (controversial for its treatment of Revan in and of itself) and Ziost after were both setting up a major plotline where the Emperor has separated himself from the Empire and is full on eating planets. (not in a ‘nom nom cronchy rocks’ sense more a ‘murder death leaving a desolate wasteland behind’ sense fyi). It was Going Places. And then kotfetet came outta left field, did a total 180 plotwise where “actually the emperor ISNT trying to eat everyone he’s gone off and started ANOTHER empire because reasons? and got married and had kids also because reasons? and now he’s dead but also hanging around in your head telling you to use his power? Oh and this game that was built around being able to play your own character has suddenly picked up this storyline that railroads you into playing either a Very Specific Light Side Character or a Very Specific Dark Side Character. 

What I’m saying is. Come thru for us Timothy Zahn. Give us a Zakuul that we have a chance to explore in full as an interesting and complex threat rather than being a stupidly introduced excuse for a basic 1 fits all power fantasy plot. Because, and I recognize that I might be alone in this, I think there could be something really cool to salvage from the somewhat mess that was kotfetet.
