ARMIN

-armin would be from islington or finchley maybe even south, but I don’t see him living in like bougie areas such as kensington or chelsea or like richmond

- him and eren went to the same primary and secondary together

-armin was literally his get out of jail free card because of his stellar reputation in academics

-he always gets free stuff from the corner shop or the chicken and chip shop

-doesn’t own a car, he either bikes or takes the tube because he cares about the environment and doesn’t want to add onto the extra pollution in london

-his dress sense is very casual like a t shirt, a pair of loose fitted trousers and some trainers but when he cant be bothered he’ll wear a tech fleece

-he has a very good sense of direction, like he knows the fastest routes for anything, like when eren and connie dragged him to carni (if you went this year im saur jealous 😩 but anyways) and it was time to get home armin found a quicker route that got them back pretty fast

-knows all the best secret spots in london for anything! which makes hanging out with him more fun because you experience a new part of london when you’re together

-he isnt a fan of eren’s scamming ways but when eren asks for help he always answers as long as he’s not a part of it

-london men i feel like are terrible with their feelings but armin is the exception, he would be very open with you about his feelings and such

-reads so much, you’ll catch him at hyde park or greenwich park reading till the sun sets

-he smokes cigarettes but he’s trying to cut it out for you

-his playlist would be very diverse since he’s been brought up in a multicultural area, like it would go from bashment, to rnb, drill to pop

-unlike his unserious counterparts *cough cough* eren and connie, he’s very loyal!

-he goes to a pentecostal church, he’s always leading youth service and helping out at church events.

-the aunties love him for this because he’s the perfect son that they don’t have and they just love him in general

-ony can cook and im being for real, so you guys never eat out unless ony wants to show you to a new niche restaurant somewhere

-he has snap but doesn’t have a bitmoji because he thinks it’s immature 😕 but eventually he caves and makes one because you ask him too

-hes always promoting his boys stuff whether that be music,

-he deffo went to an all boys secondary and then he went to a mixed sixth form after, he gives me those vibes

-he used to go to the library to link girls after school 😭 he had a big playboy phase but hes calmed down

-he used to be one of those people at stratford westfield trying to sell you magazines before you enter

-hes not stingy with his money, hes always spoiling the people he loves

-he has a bunch of caps and grills that he likes to rotate out weekly, he has great style

-he works in corporate london so its rare that you dont see him outside of a suit and tie but he always makes time for you

-ony is always holding your bag for dear life when you go to bait areas like oxford street or westfields or like the tourist spots because people be getting their shit stolen loool

-he loves late night tesco trips anything that he can do at night i.e late night walks, drives etc

-bossman is always giving him discounts on stuff because ony is loyal customer.

-look at that man and tell me he wouldnt be from essex tell me!! like thats pure dagenham material right there

-if you search up a typical person from essex, he would come up

-he probably owns those skintight chinos with those ugly polos with the church shoes

-he tries to downplay his accent a bit since sometimes its hard to understand him but when hes upset his accent comes through in full force

-always at spoons or at the club till early hours

-reiner gives me bricklayer vibes so thats what im gonna roll with

-when he comes home from work in summer hes like hot and sweaty but it makes his biceps glow so its kinda sexy idk

-has a bunch of tattoos, most of them are birthdays of family members and a picture of his grandma who passed away

Donations for Ukraine: UK drop-off points and the most useful items to give

Support for refugees fleeing Russian invasion floods in across Britain

People across Britain and the wider world have been deeply moved by the courage and resilience shown by the citizens of Ukraine over the last week as their country came under attack from Vladimir Putin’s Russia, an invasion that brought international condemnation and has already seen the aggressor become a pariah state on the world stage.

While many were caught up in the violent warfare playing out across Ukrainian cities, others have been forced to flee for safety in neighbouring states like Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Moldova.

Both the resistance and the refugees need the help and generosity of Ukraine’s European neighbours to survive their ordeal and millions of Britons have already donated generously to fundraising drives and supported causes like The Independent’s Refugees Welcome campaign, which seeks to persuade the British government to do more to help asylum seekers escaping the conflict.

At a local level, charitable endeavours have meanwhile sprung up across the country to take in and deliver supplies to the frontline.

Below is a list of some of the places across Britain currently accepting donations of goods like clothing, toys, medicine and food to help those under siege in their hour of need.

The Polish White Eagle Club in Balham, South London

The organisers are accepting clothing, bedding and other items to help refugees in Ukraine. They say they have already been overwhelmed with donations, however, so members of the public are advised to contact them before dropping off supplies.

The Polish Integration Support Centre’s British and Polish Solidarity with Ukraine campaign has been collecting donations at sites across the country since 27 February and will continue to do so until at least 4 March (they’re also behind the Balham site listed above and have two additional sites in Wrexham).

It is asking for foil survival blankets, toys, nappies, sanitary towels, crayons, towels, first aid kits, sleeping bags, metal cups, thermal clothing, hair brushes, shampoos, toothbrushes, children’s clothes and bandages.

ELSA LANCHESTER

October 28, 1902

Elsa Sullivan Lanchester was born in Lewisham, London. She studied dance in Paris under Isadora Duncan, whom she disliked. When the school was discontinued due to the start of the World War I, she returned to the UK. 

“My parents were always a bit arty. They were ‘advanced’. They supported pacifism, vegetarianism, socialism, atheism and all that.” ~ Elsa Lanchester

Her cabaret and nightclub appearances led to more serious stage work and it was then that Lanchester first met actor Charles Laughton. They were married two years later and continued to act together from time to time, both on stage and screen. Lanchester made her film debut in The Scarlet Woman (1925) alongside author Evelyn Waugh.  

She was nominated for Academy Awards for Come To The Stable (1949) and Witness for the Prosecution (1957). Her most memorable role, however, was as Mary Shelley and the Monster’s Bride in Bride of Frankenstein (1935), a sequel to James Whale’s Frankenstein (1931).  Later in her career she starred in popular comedies like Murder By Death (1976) and musicals like Mary Poppins (1964), among others.

 Lanchester made her television debut in “Music and Mrs. Pratt” in October 1953, a production of the “Studio One” anthology series. Lanchester played Mrs. Pratt. 

In April 1955, she did a television version of the 1936 play and 1937 film “Stage Door”, which featured Lucille Ball. It was part of “The Best of Broadway” anthology series. Lanchester played Mrs. Orcutt.

Lucy fans recognize Lanchester as Edna Grundy, the eccentric woman that Lucy and Ethel share a ride with in “Off To Florida” (ILL S6;E6). The girls think Grundy may be an escaped hatchet murderess and vice versa!  Grundy drives off and leaves Lucy and Ethel stranded. 

The Oscar-nominated actress received $2,000 for appearing in the episode, just $500 less than she was paid for The Bride of Frankenstein twenty years earlier. In “Lucy Writes a Play” (S1;E17), Ricky jokes that Ethel looks like the Bride of Frankenstein in her Spanish mantilla.

Eighteen years later, Lanchester once again worked with Lucille Ball, this time playing ex-con Mumsie Westcott on a 1973 episode of “Here’s Lucy” “Lucy Goes to Prison” (HL S5;E18). Westcott was the surname of the “Here’s Lucy” props master. 

Mumsie is an imprisoned bank robber who has hidden $300,000 but the police don’t know where. The undercover prisoner will receive a reward if they help find the stolen loot and the Unique Employment Agency will get 15% of that fee. The prisoner (Lucy) will receive $400 a week while in the clink, no matter what the outcome. Naturally, Lucy volunteers for the assignment.  

Lanchester draws on her early days in the British music hall, singing snatches of songs and little dances, to create this odd, gin-guzzling lady criminal. 

Lanchester’s final screen appearance was in 1980 comedy Die Laughing starring Robby Benson. 

Her husband, Charles Laughton, died in 1962. Lanchester talked about her open (and child-less) marriage: 

“We both needed other company. I met his young men, and I had a young man around and Charles didn't even argue.”

Elsa Lanchester died on Boxing Day 1986.
