as someone with adhd. the type of person who's like "subtitles are distracting for people with adhd so they shouldn't be on by default" are the weakest link. first of all speak for yourself, basically everyone i know with adhd prefers subtitles this might be a very niche issue. second of all "somewhat distracted" isnt ideal but maybe consider that people who are hard of hearing cannot watch the movie/show/whatever at all without subtitles. having to click a button to turn subtitles off won't kill you. in fact people who are hard of hearing click a lot of buttons to try to get subtitles all the time. you'll be okay i promise
