posts are kinda dry rn so maybe if I get enough sketches out I can make a post with em!!! but for now have dave.

the album dreamland seems to have a very similar structure to a certain kind of essay. at least in my mind. i’m not sure if this is because i’ve been writing a lot of essays recently or because of something else. now, i am no expert on essays, but here is why it feels that way to me. if i screwed up when i wrote something about essays, please let me know :P

dreamland (the song) resembles the thesis. it summarizes the entire album neatly and gives you an idea of what’s to come. it also includes that funny little sound at the start that doesn’t resemble the rest of the song as much, but still fits in with the rest of it, almost like a hook.

the songs after dreamland are like the body of the essay, developing the "thesis" further. each song fleshes out a part of the lyrics in dreamland and shares a part of dave's story. the songs start out lighter, but slowly grow sadder as the album goes on.

helium is the perfect conclusion. it has its own purpose on its own for the album. it sums up everything perfectly. it changes musically throughout the song, and it goes back to dreamland at the end. but it's different (in another key). you can hear the first vocal take for dreamland, too. it's like an essay conclusion in which one restates their thesis in different words. there is a short pause. then there is more sound, and it's beautiful. and then you can hear child dave saying "bye-bye". if it was an essay, it would have a very strong ending. it's like young dave was not only saying good-bye to the listener, but also to his past, perhaps. which he shared through this album.

I’ll forever argue that ga’s albums are incomparable with each other because they are all so vastly different it’s just genuinely unfair

They make CONCEPT ALBUMS you cannot hold a bedroom pop album to the same standards of a psychedelic album . “Ilysfm doesn’t sound like htbahb :(“ yeah and neither does zaba or dreamland GET OVER IT

I’ve become a hardcore ilysfm defender just because of how annoying the haters are .. like do you guys even like glass animals my god 😭😭

people who complain that the new album doesn’t sound like HTBAHB or Zaba or Dreamland are making me so incredibly angry. None of their albums sound the same!! HTBAHB sounds nothing like Zaba and that’s okay!!! it’s still good!! dreamland doesn’t sound like either of the two but it still sounds good!! everything they make sounds different so obviously ILYSFM won’t sound like anything else they’ve ever made!! like jesus christ let artists change!
