dragony looore, for anyone who's curious (me and like 1 person??)

in my version of MLP g4, the Gingerverse, there are multiple hybrid pony races: canine ponies, feline ponies, and mentioned above, dragonies. so far, their lore is mainly in my head, but very slowly and randomly, i plan to elaborate on it!! so uhhhhhh enjoy? happy to answer any questions but i totally get that this interests me and probably me alone lol, so no worries there

Album of the Week: Dragony - Hic Svnt Dracones

Release: 2024

Length: 56 Minutes

Thoughts: I discovered Dragons a bit randomly through their song Lords of the Hunt (pure vibes) and after the previous album Viribus Unitis I was very excited to see what they'd come up with. This isn't quite as much of a story-driven album as I'd expected but definitely still a cool concept. Is that just my perception or are more bands going into sailing topics recently? (Powerwolf...)

The opener is a banger no doubt, but a lot of classical music is basically metal before electricity so I can't exactly credit Dragony for that besides having good taste. I'm very picky even within Power Metal and Dragony scratches a very specific itch that not all of their songs hit even if they're objectively good. I am happy to report they're doing fantastic on this one. My favorite is probably Ill Met By Moonlight, it's dark and heavy, it reminds me a bit of Therion. And The Perfect Storm has elements of Sabaton almost, very fun song.

I'd have preferred a more focused storyline, since the opening songs made the impression of setting up a storyline around Raleigh's colonization explorations. Still a banger album, I'd love to see these guys live some time.

There are a lot of power metal songs based on The Wheel of Time, but this one is my favourite. I mean, the Blind Guardian songs are very good and I am glad they exist, but I find it much more interesting when a band decides to make a song not about the main character or the main conflict, but about some other specific element, with lyrics closely based on book text ... and I think the energy is just right. The tone. Not so angsty, but celebratory. Embrace the camp and express your feelings!

I like power metal songs whose choruses feel like anthems, and this one qualifies. You just want to sing this with a crowd at the top of your lungs! I mean, I do. I just assume it is a universal human impulse.

Saw that Dragony released their new album and that is so cool! Wish I had more free time coming up so I can listen to it all. However, since I have only listened to Hic Svnt Dracones so far, I gotta tell you guys, you gotta listen to Hic Svnt Dracones (Here there be Dragons). It's so cool.

It apparently deals with British and the Vikings? Idk, I haven't looked into the "story" of the album so far. This song has dragons, what more do you need
