@kyurilin
@purekesseltrash
@dragonquill to name a few of those fic authors that have caused me sleepless nights
does anyone else let themselves read a “goodnight fanfic” as a little reward but you accidentally end up reading a 76k anthology and stay up until the wee hours of the morning because you can’t sleep without knowing what happens

Mr Fuffington is out in the wild! DragonQuills over on itch.io made a cozy, wonderful visual novel about finding a place to live for the winter.
I've played through the first story and the writing is delightful and has a great sense of humour. Also there's an adorable romance between the humans.
(Also the opening music is Pawtastic!)

I thought I was the only one who hated the Joker. Nice to know I'm not alone!
it's mostly for the metatextual place that character has carved out in today's popular culture, esp. with angry young men paradoxically "relating" to and aspiring to an unfeeling, myopic existence. He's a great foil for batman, and fun when done with a healthy dose of camp, but I just can't separate him from the massive elephant in the room anymore. He's the indomitable champion of the schrodinger's asshole who will turn every goalpost and moral debate into a meaningless joke once he decides to elevate himself above it all and reduce nuance to a flat paste of nihilism. I want that clown obliterated

There’s a lot of really excellent fluff in @dragonquill‘s “The Cottage, the Husbands” series, but this particular scene and line from the Storm just absolutely transfixed me. I instantly wanted to do something with it. (Aziraphale should be in pyjamas but it wasn’t working for me.)

@dragonquill YES EXACTLY
I think I kinda maybe get it if you play inquisition first. Honestly apart from maybe Dorian the inquisitor doesn't really HAVE the kind of friend that Varric is to Hawke written in. You can be close to people in the inquisition but it's not the same as Mr Varric who is built to be your bestie and is obsessed with you even if you actively piss him off in DA2. So maybe without that context you see Varric asking how you're doing and inviting you to wicked grace night and you assume he's in bestie mode.
But he's NOT. He's out there actively NOT being in bestie mode. He's fighting like hell to put up walls and keep people out any way he can. He thinks he needs to be around the inquisition to atone but like. He doesn't WANT to be there. He WANTS to be in Kirkwall. But his Kirkwall is gone now. So here he is.
And I think it's so telling that his favourite people in the inquisition are:
- Cassandra who he basically gets close to by accident as they start out disliking one another
And
- Cole who is a spirit of compassion and who he basically responds to as a Dad
It's just like. aaaa exactly what you said u know
Something something the reason Varric struggles to see the inquisitior as a person (repeatedly calling them a symbol and expressing how it's hard to remember that they're not at both the end of the wicked grace scene and in one of his own one on one scenes) is actually not about The Inquisitor or What They Are To The People or The Singing at all.
But it is an internalised coping method for himself so that he doesn't get super attached and burnt just like he did with the da2 gang. I mean. Look no further to how Sera calls him out on this one.
Like it's kinda crazy the roles Varric fulfills in DAI all the way to WARNING LOVE INTERESTS THE INQUISITOR IS A BAD IDEA just like Wynne does in dao. He's literally so damaged and the ghosts of Kirkwall follow him everywhere and he's SO aware of what it means to follow a hero and let yourself care about them and their friends.
Anyway.

The Ghost Of Your Past And Mine (chapter 1)
1999
This was the third time in two weeks that the customer in sunglasses had been in.
Aziraphale had started out thinking he’d been a fellow uni student, looking for a place to study, but he never brought in anything to study from. Now he was starting to wonder whether the fellow was actually casing the joint. Although if so, he wasn’t doing a very good job of it. He mostly slouched in the same chair, red hair bright in the dim, reading a cheap paperback of Hamlet pulled from a shelf. Or seemed to read it, anyway, although it was impossible to tell.
Sometimes it felt a bit like he was staring at Aziraphale, as Aziraphale worked, shelving books or running the register. Aziraphale was fairly used to that. He didn’t select his clothing, argyle and tartan and neat bow ties, to blend in, after all. And blending in was never an option in any case.
Aziraphale set his last book back on the shelf with a bit more force than the situation called for, then backed away, hands tangling together.

It’s time! Today begins a new journey into the Soft Zone(TM) with your humble wordmaker, wonderful illustrator @apocalypsenah and wonderful podficcer @quillomens . There is the start of a multimedia adventure awaiting you at the link above. There are also two humans, and some other humans, and a bookshop. And twenty-one years of shared history! It’s not six thousand, but it’s relatively a lot, for humans.
Eventual soft ace romance; Crowley being completely heart-eyed over a visibly fat Aziraphale; some angst, from sources both internal and external, but I promise it all ends happy. More notes and some important warnings at the AO3 link above!
Brought to you by the @do-it-with-style-events Mini Bang! Now with more miniaturized explosions.

Hilloo! Question: Are you doing the prints yourself and, if so, could I special order a print of the art I commissioned a while back?
Oh sure! I forgot which one it was, though, you can DM me :)

what the hell???
Right? I don’t get. I haven’t posted anything worth commenting in, what feels like, ages and yet I still somehow manage to receive this kind of response on old stories...

Assholes are doing that?! I’m so sorry to hear it, how discouraging.
Yeah, it happens then and again, of course it did more frequently when I was still posting regularly, but still... Don’t know what happened to the good old “don’t like, don’t read”. :/

I admit I more imagine that book Zira, having been introduced to the cell phone and how you can take all these pictures without having to develop them, PLACED his mini Crowley there, fast asleep, and took pictures while Show Az fluttered and acted upset but did absolutely NOTHING to stop him (a la the real guns at the former nunnery). Too much alcohol plus sleepiness makes for time to take embarrasing snek pictures.
oh yes, they are definitely more likely to end up like that without their own knowledge. Book Aziraphale have one of those old Nokia phones which happens to take stunning pictures, if only because he expects that it will so it does. TV Aziraphale is making very weak protests but his excited wiggling is giving him away.

Good Omens is so important to my ace heart, and your art is beautiful. And Az's love for his sssnake in either form is so soft and real and I just hf;hsdkbfhdbhdbfkbdkbaddfjfl so thank you so much for it!
thank you so much for enjoying my work! and also~ HARD SAME. my asexuality defines a lot of how i interact with and view the world, even if i don’t mean for it to. so when media comes along that doesn’t have a ton of overt sexual tension, but still gives me a strong and interesting relationship dynamic to fall in love with???? WOW! PRICELESS~!!!! really (= ///w///=) i love it! Good Omens is so easy to watch and rewatch over and over! hehe!
being acel is... an interesting journey through the world that is hard to relate to others sometimes (if i even bother to try, which i don’t generally, lol). so when things come along that make me feel truly comfortable and delighted and wanting more~ oh my oh my! what a gift!!!
that said though, i would never, ever, dream of denying anyone their own ways of reading, interacting with, and enjoying media! so, please, no one think i’m against sexual content - that’s certainly not the case! but if my making soft, fluffy, romantic content can please other people (especially my fellow asexuals) i am super, super happy about it! (^ ___^) 💖
#pidgy asks#good omens#asexuality#it's me!#(O w O)#i love love#like#a LOT#i'm just stupid for affection#just#some things aren't for me#and not everything has to be for everybody#but i'm happy whenever someone can find things that please them!#sometimes~ though#you gotta make it for yourself too!#hehe!#(-^ w ^-)#dragonquill

dragonquill replied to your post: Okay, I’m having an I don’t even go here kind of...
There’s no canon to imply a differing belief system for the surface dwarves. Some become Andrastian, like Varric, which is interesting in tht Andrastian religion pretty much says they’re not made by the Maker, and dwarves arren’t allowed to hold any position in the church. Andraste HERSELF at least worked closely with elves, so there are groups who are more pro-Andraste than pro-Chantry. That said, the dwarven religion itself isn’t as rigidly organized as human
religion. They venerate certain ancestors, who are selected, often in their lifetime, by the leading councel. The ask them for advice more than pray for them. Then there's the connectio to the Stone and I do agree - it's interesting t think how surface dwarves rethink their place in the universe when they lose their sense of/closeness to the stone (Varric, our one character to work with, mostly picks fun at the concept)
----
I understand there’s nothing in the game explicitly to inform that, but I’m playing a TTRPG with a surface dwarf character, and let me tell you the gap here is huge and gaping. Like if surface dwarves didn’t congregate -- if they really just scattered into the world -- I’d chalk it up to individuals having their own beliefs.
And if it was a recent thing -- most people were 1st or 2nd generation surface dwarves -- then I’d understand that it hasn’t formed up yet.
But in a world where this happens constantly almost since the beginning of living memory, I have to assume it’s less ‘it doesn’t exist’ and more ‘it hasn’t been developed yet’. AFAIK in the games there’s no playable surface dwarves? Which means that whole community hasn’t been explored and developed for yet.
And I definitely know & understand the underground dwarves belief systems as well as anyone can. I think the whole Paragon thing is fascinating. I keep mentally comparing them to the Klingons, with their whole religion that starts & ends with the idea that the ancestors killed the gods and should be respected for that, if nothing else.
