he was either the first or second dragon I ever bought when I joined FR, so I'm sentimental about him. I've updated his look quiiiiite a few times, but i Think.. i'm finally happy with him..

As both projects are still in draft mode in my mind, this might not be 100% accurate and still subject to change. But so, yeah both Thael and Varkas are the assholes LIs, but of course they are more than that too (i hope xD )

So on the surface, (as this is not a detailed description )

Thael is more of a playful sarcastic asshole, who would enjoy putting you in trouble deliberately. You have to play his game and show you are a worthy challenger.

Varkas is more of a ruthless cold asshole (the most murderous of the two), a bit always angry and just hard to approach in general. He would rather ignore you or push you away like he wants nothing to do with you. You have to be able to pierce his shield. (But he can still be sassy too at times of course)

I guess it then depends on your own misstreating preferences 🤭

I think with these descriptions you would go for Thael more. Out of the two, I guess he is also the more likely to drink wine on a comfy chair. But I am sure we can manage for Varkas too 😂

So... a little bit of a fic I have decided to work on during whumptober :3

It's an AU where instead of being Diluc accompanying his father during the Ursa incident, it's Jean. Since it's not his precious son who is about to be a victim of the dragon, Crepus doesn't use his delusion and he lives! Yay! But Jean isn't that lucky and doesn't get out of it unscathed, to a point where her future as a knight could be compromised...

The moment Diluc finally saw Ursa the Drake, he was struck by its size and the sheer strength that emanated from the creature. He wasn’t expecting anything less from a dragon, yet he wasn’t prepared for the strong impression that it was going to leave on him. It was flying around, roaring louder than any thunderstorm, the flaps of its powerful wings enough to uproot trees and knock several knights down. Its movements were erratic, its targets difficult to determine. It seemed that it was just flying around, making fun of them, sometimes deciding to descend on the convoy and striking a merchant on its way, sometimes just pretending to and then turning at the last second, barely avoiding a panic stricken knight.

Varka, on the other hand, wasn’t destabilized by the situation in the slightest. Without even a flicker of hesitation, he confidently ordered the attack on the dragon, his courage seeping through the group that followed him without question.

Diluc didn’t follow him, though. His priority was to find his father. He hadn’t discussed it beforehand with the Grand Master, but he knew his behavior wasn’t a hindrance in repelling their enemy. Knights were also needed to assess the situation about the convoy and assist the wounded. And Varka surely knew making sure his father was safe would take up too much of Diluc’s mind to just head straight into battle.

He jumped from his horse mid gallop and headed straight for the covered wagon he knew his father was supposed to travel in. It was knocked over on its side, damaged but not smashed like some others.

“Father?!” Diluc screamed as he swiftly pushed aside the curtain that separated the inside of the chariot from the outside.

“Diluc? I’m alright, son!” his father answered, miraculously unhurt. He seemed to be rummaging through things, maybe trying to collect himself after the carriage had crashed. “Don’t worry about me, there are other people who need assistance!”

Diluc lingered a second more, making sure his father was really as fine as he said, or maybe reassuring himself that his father was indeed fine. Then he rushed out to find who else he could assist right now, drawing his sword, ready to defend anyone against their opponent. He scanned the area, shock and helplessness building in his throat as he did. Most of the people — knights and citizen alike — were either up and still fighting, or lying down, probably already dead given the state they were in. Limbs were torn or crushed, blood splattered all around. The dragon was merciless.

He was about to decide that the best he could do was join Varka to participate in the direct confrontation, to put an end to this fight as fast as possible, that it was the best course of action to ensure that they wouldn’t lose any more lives tonight. Then he spotted Jean, lying on the ground.

He lowered his sword, almost dropping it as he scrambled closer to her, falling on his knees to check on her, praying that it wasn’t too late.

“Jean!” he screamed her name, shaking her a little in the hopes of waking her up, knowing as he did how futile it was. She was covered in blood, so much that he wasn’t even sure where it came from. It was on her face, her neck, her stomach, her leg… But she was still breathing, he was sure of that.

“We need to stop the bleeding” he muttered to himself, taking his coat off to use as a compress on a gash on her stomach, before turning around to try and find someone who could help him. He was not by any means a healer, and they hadn’t even brought many with them. They couldn’t take that risk. Healers were sure to be needed, but they couldn’t risk losing them in the heat of the battle and leave the city without medical support. It was a tough decision that he knew the Grand Master hated to make, but it was a small convoy; the casualties couldn’t be abundant. Diluc was just hoping to find one of the knights who had even the basic training in healing, who was just a bit more knowledgable in this area than he was.

And his gaze fell on Kaeya. He realized he had completely lost track of Kaeya’s whereabouts before that, so engrossed in checking on their father. Kaeya hadn’t followed him, apparently.

“Kaeya!” Diluc called his brother, eager to have him by his side to do something about Jean.

But Kaeya wasn’t moving. He was looking straight at him, yet his mind seemed to be completely elsewhere. He had his sword in his hand, but seemingly no intention to use it. Was he even aware how much of a sitting duck he was right now? Immobile and inattentive in a battlefield?

“Kaeya?!” Diluc tried again, desperate to have him come and help. What in Celestia was he doing?!

“KAEYA!!” Diluc screamed at him, and Kaeya finally seemed to snap out of it — whatever it was — and hurried close to him, quickly scanning Jean’s condition too.

“She’s losing too much blood, there’s nothing we can do about it here. We need to get her back to the city as soon as possible”, he said, as he turned around and began calling and regrouping the few knights that were still around and not participating in the assault, either the ones from the convoy that were still standing, or the others from their group who were trying to find the wounded who could still be saved. Kaeya was more clear headed than he was, he had to admit. His instinctual reaction was to rush and do anything he could to save Jean’s life, but Kaeya was right: Diluc’s small attempt to stop the blood from spilling out of one of her wounds would not be enough to save her life. They needed to think farther than this.

Once a few people — his father among them — were gathered, Diluc took charge, ordered them to take the wounded on the few stretchers they had and bring them back to the city. Kaeya and him, whose abilities were better used in a fight, would ensure that they could get away without trouble, before going back to join Varka’s group. They would fight off the dragon and catch up with them as soon as they could.

I have my own thoughts, but why do you think Natlan need for help form the other nations to deal with abyss. Not even direct fighting, stuff like resources and such.

Now I could be wrong, but k don’t remember ever saying Natlan needs help from other nations against the abyss.

Genuinely, if anything, that last patch proves the thing they need most might be more fighters and healers, or an exceptional display of power.

Honestly in any given situation, the best choices for help to me always sounds like it would be Venti. It’s pretty broken to be able to assess a situation by feeling the wind. He’s created storms in favor of troops before and a dragon that has his back. I’d be curious to know how far he could shoot an arrow. Also if we’re talking about people down for some nonsense, Varka.

This is biased opinion of course but I’ve always thought in a war to gain divinity, it was only natural a being that control Anemo and another that controls Dendro would win a seat despite not being known for their battle power; cause it’s fundamentally hard to invade a territory and not deal with those two things. If Liyue was landlocked I’d say the same about Zhongli but what makes him impressive is the fact he wasn’t. He beat sea monsters.

If you’re not picking mondstadt for Venti, you’re picking Inazuma for Ei, cause that woman and her troops don’t lose. Once again, the power of a storm seems to be a hard counter to a majority of monsters. Her kill count resumé are landmarks. Land, sky, sea, it really doesn’t matter. She will kill it if provoked and that day becomes a religion or a festival.

This is going to be a LONG post...

I decided that I need to write about what kind of Kaeya, with what past and what feelings in the present I want to see in the work, so that later I don’t deviate in the character/behavior of my favorite boy.

And that's how this "character portrait" came about.

SO WHAT... Let's start with something simple - age?

Age: I'll take about 22-23, probably (because Crepus dies on Diluc's 18th birthday, he leaves for three years, and then returns at 21, and the guys let it be another year or two in contrast to the cold-brothers, oh, and Kaeya didn't celebrate his 18th birthday as is customary for the Ragnvindras, then there will be a separate chapter from this, probably)

Those who know the truth about him: Diluc, Varka, Albedo, Venti, Alice (I'm sure), Lisa, Adelinda (Kaeya doesn't know about this), Aether and Paimon.

They don't know the truth, but they will find out: Klee, Fischl, Jean (a separate chapter about how Jean recognizes is a must!!!) and possibly someone else.

Friends (separately): Venti, Mavuika.

Family (not native): Diluc (older brother), Wriothesley (almost like an older brother), Albedo (younger/older brother, depending on the situation), Klee (younger sister), Bennett (younger brother), Adelinda (mom), Elzer (almost a brother, somewhere on the level of a cousin), Navia (kind and beloved rich aunt).

THE NIGHT WHEN KAEYA AND DILUC FIGHTED:

1. He told because he was afraid of his own betrayal in his brother's eyes - when he saw how much Crepus' death had hurt Diluc, and realized his own thoughts of relief, he was afraid of himself - for a moment he thought that he might actually betray him, and then Diluc would be crushed again. He was immediately afraid of his thoughts, because he knew that he would never betray - he would not dare betray his home and loved ones, but these thoughts were still bursting at him, and he decided to tell his brother. Perhaps as punishment for that fleeting feeling of freedom after Crepus' death, he was ready for a fight, even if he hoped for acceptance.

2. His vision - at once a treasure, proof that he chose Mondstadt, but also proof that in his brother's eyes he is not an enemy, but a stranger (and this hurts, because Kaeya is now literally made of contradictions).

3. On the day of the quarrel, Alberich received serious injuries, after which he spent a long time recovering in the Cathedral, and then at Jean's house: a crack on his left collarbone, internal bleeding, several significant cuts, minus an eye (he has one, but he is blind), a scar on his eye, several burns all over his body (Diluc in secret helped with their treatment), a deep wound on his side and a fracture in his leg (an unsuccessful fall from the stairs, when Diluc pushed him, became a crack, and an incorrect parry of a claymore made a full-fledged fracture)... something like that? Maybe that will change...

4. After receiving Cryo, Kaeya felt like the most disgusting creature in Teyvat, because he betrayed his brother, was betrayed by him and received the eye of a god, proving that he now walks under the Archons, whom he should have hated. Pain, lack of control over the Cryo he had just received, shock and mortal fatigue made him look at his brother, who realized everything that had happened that evening, smile falsely and, leaning on his almost broken sword, go towards Mondstadt. Perhaps at that moment he did not understand that he was going to Jean, and simply hoped to die somewhere along the way, but barely being conscious, he reached his friend, and she provided him with first aid - she tried to ask, but Kaeya just kept silent, choking on tears on his friend's chest until he lost consciousness. Then Jean urgently delivered him to the Cathedral, where he began to recover, but due to the rain, he also caught a fever.

5. At the same time : Diluc didn't dare stop his brother, knowing that if he tried to say anything now, he'd either be rude and say something he'd regret, or burst into tears and beg for forgiveness (which wouldn't do any good for either him or Kaeya at that moment). So he shouted "I HATE—!" at Kaeya's back (not him, but the way things had turned out - his father's death, Kaeya, their fight, the fact that he almost killed him, but Kaeya would think it was directed at him), and ran into the house to Adelinda: he sobbed all over her clothes, expressed all his thoughts, insults towards Kaeya, which were replaced by self-flagellation and regret, fear that he didn't know how they should behave now, because after that they were definitely not brothers. Then he realizes that Kaeya is walking alone toward Mondstadt, injured and with unstable vision, and he's unlikely to be able (or willing) to defend himself if he's attacked. So he heads to Mondstadt, follows Kaeya's bloody footprints, which the knights on the bridge have already begun to cover with sand, and ends up being detained by Eroch "on suspicion of attempting to kill Kaeya Alberich." But Jean says they can't confirm it was Diluc until Kaeya comes to his senses and confirms the charges, and for now Diluc is simply forbidden to leave Mondstadt. He asks to go to the Cathedral to see Alberich, but Jean says that even though she protected Diluc, she won't let him near Kaeya until he says he wants to, because she only knows one person whose fighting style leaves such wounds and burns.

But then Kaeya will come to his senses and tell the knights that he was surrounded by treasure thieves near the Dragonspine, and he hasn't seen Diluc since he came to him as reinforcements. Eroch will leave angry and with nothing, Jean will ask if Diluc can come to him. Kaeya will allow it, but Jean will decide to stay just in case (Keya was against it, but he couldn't refuse Jean when she was so worried about him). In the end, Diluc will come in, examine Alberich, frown, and when Kaeya tries to start a conversation, he will sharply say that they can't be brothers after this (Diluc will mean how badly he injured Kaeya, and Kaeya will think that he is talking about his secret), and tomorrow Diluc will cross Kaeya off the list of the Ragnvindr family. Without giving Kaeya a chance to say anything, he will simply leave, and will only return when Kaeya is asleep to check on his wounds and burns. Diluc will then leave Mondstadt to deal with the emotions burning within him (anger, revenge, disappointment, regret, guilt, rage, etc.), and Kaeya will be very depressed.

AFTER:

Keya will learn to live in a new way for a long time (even if it is very old, like when he lived in Khaenri'ah, and tried to be self-sufficient at 5 years old): life in the role of "not Diluc's shadow" will make him fall many times, and rise with a new learned lesson or a built line of behavior for this or that case, even the most alarming. In the my au, he will live relatively happily (he will at least be happy with what he has: good friends, Jean, who will always protect him from any bad thoughts, Lisa, who will listen; everything is more or less peaceful with Diluc, so much so that sometimes he allows himself to tease him as "brother" and dream that this is true when Diluc does not shut him up and just rolls his eyes with the corners of his lips imperceptibly raised), but when he has his own place, he will begin to understand that he must devote time to himself, his feelings and desires, not avoid them, but accept them, and live the way he dreamed of since childhood - freely and completely sincerely happily.

I don't really have place to ramble about it so I'll do it here... It is me or Natlan and Mondo have many connections with each other?! Like first: Vennessa was from Natlan but stayed in Mondo. Stanley passed away in Mare Jivari but Venti brought his soul back to Mondo. Bennett was found in Mare Jivari but lives in Mondo. Varka expedition is now in Natlan. And if the theory happens to be right that Capitano is the student of Signora's lover then he is originally from Mondo too and he is in Natlan now as well. (So we will get another shor Anemo boy from Natlan as well? :3c) Yeah right now we got some NPC from Fontaine and Sumeru talking about Natlan but we got them just now while we had charas connected to Natlan from the start of the game 👀 So I'm really curious if we get Mondo map expansions when Natlan will come 👀

You actually meet Mika first on your way to the city from Dornman Port, pretending to be a lost traveller who has never set foot in the capital city. Mika, though intimidated by your 12-foot tall ass and your sons (they're too beautiful to be real humans...), was a great help in guiding you. He quickly warmed up to you, feeling sorry for misjudging you to be someone malicious when you're so kind to him. He loves your motherly attitude, but he can't take Nemo's pranks and teases so he doesn't get tl interact with you often. Then he gets whisked away by Grandmaster Varka-.

Acting Grandmaster Jean was a little suspicious of you at first, but her suspicions immediately goes out the window when you single-handedly solved Mondstadt's millenia old problem; Ursa the Drake. She immediately tries to recruit you to join the knights, even offering to place you in a high position. You figured it's to strengthen the Knights' political power and to be able to easily fight back against the oppressing of the Fatui, but you dismissed her proposal and joined the Favonius church instead, much to her disappointment.

Diluc obviously was wary of you, so he took it upon himself to secretly tail you around just to see what you were up to. You were aware of it and just slightly peeved, so you moved your residency from the city to Springvale. Sure, it's a hassle going to and fro everyday just to get to the church and to get necessary groceries, but it sure did the trick of tiring Diluc out and leaving you the hell alone. Besides, you were also quite friendly. And so strong. Diluc can remember how effortless you twisted Ursa's head. And you did it so slow too... as if you enjoyed the drake's futile struggles and writhing in pure agony. His approval of you was cemented when you saved his father's life as well as understanding why you didn't join the knights when even Varka was practically on his knees asking you. Whenever you visit the tavern and he's there, he cant help it but be more aware of your presence. Your laugh has a sultry undertone and he could feel his heartbeat more keenly. Just as he's finally resolved to court you, he watches Venti kneeling down to ask for your hand in marriage...

Kaeya couldn't help but whistle at your sheer height. He, too, was wary of you so he watched you interact with people. But even though he's suspicious of you, it's not to the extent of Diluc. Like Diluc? My dear brother, that person is blind. What can a blind person do?

Well, slay a drake alone with a two star second-rate spear, apparently.

His guard immediately goes up at that. But even if you're hostile, how could he ever hope to defeat someone who could kill a dragon with ease? Well, he can always assess your strength by sparring with you. Sadly, you handed his ass back to him. You beat him so hard that he became enamored with you. How did a blind person become such a good fighter?Who taught you? Kaeya befriended you in hopes of finding out your weakness so thaf he can stop you should you become a threat. You treated him with nothing but kindness, and when he was banished by Diluc, you were there to nurse him back to help. You held him close as he cried for the sworn brother and his father's trust that he lost.

And he fell in love with you. Oh, he fell so hard for you.

He kept you at arm's length emotionally. You didn't say anything, but he could feel like you understand. He flirted with you occasionally. You respond playfully sometimes, and Kaeya couldn't help his heart from skipping a few beats when you flash him a rare smile, relishing the jealous glare he gets from Diluc.

...And just when both he and Diluc agreed to finally settle their romantic fight to win your heart by courting you officially, Venti arrives and steals you effortlessly.

Just like that.

"I'm waiting for a bard in green," Kaeya remembered what you said to him once when he was tipsy and you were in his company.

I want to be hopeful about Fontaine too, but everything will be fatui's fault again...

listen, i hear you and i get it emotionally, but like. lets unpack this.

first of all, genshin's global plot end game obviously requires Tsaritsa assembling all gnosis. So like. we just need to accept that fatui WILL be a part of every archon quest. thats just not non-negotiable, you need to make peace that fatui will be there, and judge the execution, not just the mere fact of their presence.

now about execution. i will argue that you can say that "everything is fatui's fault" only about inazuma. let's look at other nations:

in Mond's the problem is corrupted Dvalin. thats not fatui's fault, that's venti fault, who could wake up once in 500 years to check up on his pigeon dragon. Fatui are there to exploit a weakness and power vacuum, which was created by Varka leaving with most of the forces and leaving like three 20-yolds in charge.

In Liyue, the problem is created not by Fatui, but by Zhongli, who ON PURPOSE orchestrated a crisis and power vacuum and provoked fatui into action to see how Ning will deal with that.

In Sumeru, the problem is corrupted akademiya and their abuse of akasha system, and this is not fatui's fault, that shit was going on looong before. Fatui are there to work with the corrupted government and exploit their resources.

so like. the pattern is not "everything is fatui's fault", the pattern is "fatui are a global power that has political and economic interests all over the world (metaphorically represented by them wanting to take the country's gnosis, i.e. exploit unique resources), and they will try to exploit power vacuums, institute corrupt governments, lead proxi wars, sponsor terrorists, etc to achieve this." which like. pretty realistic. thats what irl empires like usa, european and asian colonial powers, russia, etc are doing all over the place all the time.

in inazuma it didn't work bc they hard pivoted raiden from villain to uwu waifu in like one turn, trying to put the blame on fatui, but i think they've learned their lesson. looking at fontaine materials, there indeed seem to be a lot of problems which are not fatui's fault, BUT they are setting up "hydro archon is likable actually" defense by making her insufferable cunt and also insane. and i'm not joking, it can work if done right, "he can't help it, he's a cunt" was like half of scara's redemption arc and it worked.

so like yeah, fatui shit can go wrong, but their presence itself is not a verdict.

When the bard had joined this traveling opera, she knew when visiting Snezhnaya it would be inevitable she would cross paths with members of the Fatui. As long as she didn't cause trouble, they would likely leave her be. At home, Emma was openly distrustful of the organization and what they have done, but even she knew when to keep her mouth shut.

She had wondered if any high-profile members would come to this performance; Zapolyarny Palace was looming in the distance. Her shock (as well as the others performing with her) was apparent as they were told that the Harbingers of the Fatui would be in attendance. When it came to performing, Emma didn't often let herself be rattled, but a bead of nervousness settled in her gut at those words.

What intrigued her the most about the Harbingers' attendance was Il Capitano. He had a rare reputation of chivalry and justness among the Fatui, with even Varka of the Ordo Favonius speaking highly of him. Though, she wondered why he was still wearing his helmet... Wasn't that uncomfortable?

Soon it was time for the performance, and she wouldn't let her anxiety show unless it was on the script. The story was mostly heartwarming; a tale about a dragon given human form so she could find love. Emma, as the lead, sang her woes as the dragon looking for affection, and the use of her Vision only amplified the feeling to the audience that she wasn't human.

While she wasn't a very skilled fighter, she knew how to use her flames for show, and it looked like she was blowing fire from her mouth. It was enough to send wisps of warmth through the theater, but not enough to burn anyone or anything. At one point, Emma's character blew a kiss toward her love interest, the flames curling into a heart and sweeping through the theater.

All the while, the woman's eyes drifted toward the Captain. Did he like it? Was the performance good? With the helmet she had no idea.

When the show ended and applause was given, it was her time to mingle with the audience. She held a flute of dandelion wine in her hand, keeping her nerves down while she mingled with the Fatui. Emma couldn't help but feel she was in the lion's den, wondering if violence were to erupt, would she be defended or collateral?

The illustrious Il Capitano approached her, and it took everything she had to not balk in surprise. She tried to keep it cool, sipping at her wine once more. "I appreciate the praise, my lord. I give my all in everything I do, and tonight's performance was no exception."

Valor (she/her) - the co-leader, and Darklight's mate. It's rumored that her ever-growing collection of spiders not only keep an eye on things for her, but that she can speak to them. She's by no means cruel, but... well. Don't let her catch you in a lie.

Derr (he/they) - one of the hatchling caretakers, don't let his looks deceive you. He's kind and gentle; just listen to his lullaby. (skin: Smoke Storm by llithiumstars)
