Commission artwork showing off a top-view of Thunderbolt's impressive size, wingspan, and markings was made by IG artist @the_art_of_armmy~
Tumblr media
I do love his stormy, "lightning-streaked" wings!
If Thunderbolt existed in HOTD during the Dance of the Dragons, I imagine him to be about the same size as Drogon, making him bigger than Seasmoke, but smaller than Meleys~

What’s the koolish height difference like in the dragon au? :3
I want to imagine that they were originally the same height but after Karl’s crystallization he can use Foolish’s toe beans as a mattress or something XD
They were really close to the same height originally, foolish just being a teeny bit taller :D
Tumblr media
But yeah if we count Foolish's leviathan size it's closer to this XD
Tumblr media
I should mentioned that Foolish don't look the same when he takes his true size btw! He would definitely look older and more worn out if that makes sense, big and longer scales, spins, fins and horn!

The description 'large' implies that they're in the same size class as guardians, imperials, ridgebacks, gaolers, and obelisks, and after clicking through a bunch that've been scrolled into undertides that does seem to be the case.
I'm seeing sizes in adult undertides in these ranges: Length: 12m - 20m Wingspan: 15m - 21m Weight: 3000kg - 7000kg
This is just from looking at a few dozen scrolled undertides in dragon search -- while they don't seem to have the size glitch, as babies are all around 3m long, it's possible that this isn't their full size. In any case, as noodles, they're probably similar to imperials in that they're quite gracile but are very long lol
They actually seem to be in roughly the same length/wing range as guardians, but weigh about 1/3rd to half as much!

GREATLY extended the size chart a friend made (and I heavily edited because my characters are all huge freaks) so that Merlot the dragon there can be at his full height of 18 feet.
Also added Carmelo the cake goat and put Saonxe's updated reference.
I'm having fun lol.

was once again after some research and references when i came across this size comparison of different aircraft used by the USAF. actually a pretty helpful guide for somebody drawing ekinets of different sizes.
oh, and also if you want more, there's this page for aircraft size comparison charts.

Colorless, human design and some info under the cut.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, the mer AU.
Some species of mermaids are known to haunt humans when they are hungry, other species don't. Sirens are known to sing (or scream at the sky, if you want to call it that) when a storm is coming.
Sun is inspired by flying fish, and the tongue by a sea butterfly's mouth. (because of the "wing" fins I would consider him a siren, but a lot of mythological creatures are called sirens so idk). He's clingy and an attention hoarder.
Moon is inspired by abyssal fish, lophiiformes (specifically those with antennas) and black dragon fish. He's pretty chill as long as is well fed. He purposely creeps out others with his antennas, and hates Sun's tongue thing.
And Eclipse is inspired by axolotls and leafy sea dragons. They're pretty pacific but won't hesitate in defending themselves when they can't find a way out. Their tail is strong, they can send you flying across the room.
Here is the human design (my selfinsert, Fern) + outfits and a size chart of them long boys.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this AU Fern is a student at a marine biology university. They conserve and rescue marine life. Some of the rescued especies being the celestial trio, which were assigned under Ferns care with help from another student.
Some images of the three together in one picture that were supposed to be the header of the post but didn't decide which to chose so I'm putting here my 5 favourites. They don't quite fit well 'cuz I drew them separately.

*originally posted on june 15 2021*
something that I been meaning to do was to make a size chart for my foo dogs with me for comparison (I just copy and paste the silhouettes from the ref sheets)
don't know how to measure heights but for contexts I'm 5'0"ft
though I do need to make a ref sheet for my friend's foo dog and the parents so this will be updated when I have the chance (plus I really got to draw up the families of the other foo dogs)

Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials was well received and won a couple of awards (and a second edition, I think in ’87?). It took a little while for the sequel to emerge: Barlowe’s Guide to Fantasy hit shelves in 1996.
Even though I am not super widely read in either fantasy or science fiction, Barlowe’s fantasy book is the one I really vibe on. Maybe because it allows him to do stuff like Grendel from Beowulf and Gorice from The Worm Ouroboros. Wouldn’t have expected Gideon Winter, the antagonist from Peter Straub’s odd novel Floating Dragon to be included, but he was. Other surprises are the Psammead from Five Children and It and the Saw Horse from Oz.
One of the coolest things about these books is the fold-out size comparison charts. I love a good size-comparison (and again, this is a big feature of those Petersen’s Guides for Call of Cthulhu, and I am sure it came directly from here).
