Dragon Dad

Discomfort

He watched with an amused smile as you did the best to try and scratch the new patch of scales in between your shoulder blades. They’d been cropped up in random spots probably not bigger than your palm. And they itched like nothing else you’d ever felt.

You did your best with the patches on your arms and legs, but your nails had morphed into thicker dull claws. It was like trying to scratch with the pads of your fingers almost utterly pointless.

He’d offered to help with them, his own adult claws sharp enough to actually give some relief and you’d denied him every time he’d asked. He relented and let you stew in your own discomfort.

He was oddly hands off since the transformation started. He’d offered to do whatever he could to ease the ‘little aches and pains’ as he called it on the condition that you willingly sit with him. He talked constantly about picking you up and cuddling you but when you denied him, he’d listened.

You’d lost track of how long you’d been here, so deep in a cave somewhere you didn’t know night from day. You’d given up on escape when you realized that the only exit was a sheer cliff of at least fifty feet, only accessible to those with wings. After months of isolation and ever present misery you found yourself saying, “Could you-,” before stopping yourself.

He turned away from the book he was pretending to read eyes already alight with excitement. “Could I what darling?”

Just hearing his voice was enough to sour your mood but not enough to change your mind. “My scales itch and I can’t reach them,” you huffed.

His smile grew and you waited for him to push further. Expecting him to make you ask out loud for what you wanted, but he just smiled and held open his arms.

The thought of willingly going to him made your stomach turn over but the nagging itching made you push past it and very slowly settle in his lap.

He chuckled at your rigid demeanor, your eyes very firmly past him, and he ruffled your hair laughing at your disapproving grunt.

You waited for a joke or some jab from him, so he could gloat about how you’d willingly came to him, but instead he gently brought down his sharp claws down the new patch of scales on your back.

It took every last shred of willpower you had not to completely melt into his arms when he started to scratch your scales. The itching that had plagued you for days was finally abated. Tension you’d been holding for weeks slowly drain out of you, something foreign in the back of your head almost purring at the feeling.

As you relaxed, you remembered that this was the first real touch you’d had in, too long frankly. Even before, this mess, you weren’t much of a cuddly person but after months of feeling nothing but your own skin, it was enough to drive anyone to this hunger. You let yourself relax in his arms as he casually scratched your back, and sometimes other patches he could reach.

He hummed softly as he watched you melt into him, your hands bunching in his shirt as you pressed your face into his chest. He knew the war was far from over, but this battle he’d won. He remembered the intense loneliness that came with transforming, and he was glad he could teach you that He (and no one else) could ease it . Most likely tomorrow you would be twice as bad as normal but any fit you threw wouldn’t change the fact that you’d chosen his comfort. And now you knew what his comfort felt like. And he knew that denying something you’d never known was much easier than denying something you knew.

“Shut up, Morgana,” Arthur says heatedly, feeling the flush settle awkwardly in his cheeks. “Merlin isn’t my soulmate, so there’s clearly something severely wrong with him, and I just haven’t figured out what it is yet.”

Or: It turns out that Arthur's soulmate Emrys is a dodgery old sorcerer. No one is happy about this, least of all Arthur, who has to come to terms with the facts that he's bound to someone with magic and that his inconvenient attraction to Merlin won't lead to anything at all.

So he thinks, anyway.

I hope you like it riri and the person who requested this! Some headcanons I did come up (If it's allowed) is that

-Ballister wear some gold on him to symbolise the dragons (hence the dragon wing earring over there)

- he would also have a lot of scars from taking care of Nimona, maybe Nimona sometimes (unintentionally) claw him or something.

- tbh I think he would go around with at least a cloth that covers his chest and that's all, maybe some cloth wrapped around his waist? Who knows, Riri needs to conform that.

I know why you suggested this one lol. I've been found out, but here we go.

Friendship headcanon for What If Strange

Friendship with this Strange variant takes a very long time to actually achieve. He doesn't trust himself to be around you at first, due to his random shapeshifting issues and lack of social interaction for so long.

He starts showing curiosity whenever he sees that you don't flinch at the sight of his extra "helpers" showing themselves and just inquire about them instead.

Once you get his trust, he talks for hours. All Strange variants are loquacious, but this one in particular can sit and chat for hours about literally anything and everything because he's studied so much in his time alone. Be prepared to hear a LOT of information if you trigger a topic.

About a year or so into your friendship, he tells you how he got to where he currently is in his situation. About how he was made to spend the rest of his life alone, guarding the Pocket Dimension so that the Multiverse - and your world by extension - will remain safe from destruction.

He will mother hen over you when you are seriously injured or fall ill, but if you get cut or bruised, he'll just tell you "You're fine, get up and walk it off". Secretly, he used a healing spell on you to make sure that the cut actually heals while you do.

"What do you think of this outfit?" "Are you going to a luau?" "No?" "Well, you may want to consider one instead of wherever you're going if you're going to wear that."

If someone hurts you in the smallest way and you go to him with your problems, it may make him uncomfortable at first, but he'll listen to you attentively, because you did the same thing for him without judgement when he finally came clean about everything that he did.

Half a year into your friendship, if someone hurts you, expect whoever it was to come to you the following day complaining of a nightmare telling them at they had better apologize or suffer dire consequences. No, he's not sorry.

His friendship is something that will be very hard to break, because if you do something to hurt him, he will acknowledge it but not throw it out of proportion because nothing is worse than what he has done to himself. That goes straight to your heart every time and both of you end up being vulnerable and talking it out.

He always suggests crazy things to do together whenever he visits, since his time is limited, but never anything illegal. Usually, it just sums up to something like trying an extremely spicy food neither of you have ever heard of before or swimming naked in a semi-public body of water to risk getting caught. This variant has no shame, but you already knew that and you love it.
