Bug Fables' deep lore is engaging in open warfare with my mental helath i swear to GOD I CAnt figure this tHE FUCK OUT IM GOING INSANE

Context: I'm trying to make a timeline. Bug fables took this personally.

The big question here that got me to break is what the fuck is the deal with Flower Gods? So I was writing an essay of sorts to try and figure it out as I go, then clean it up and post it when I came to a few satisfying conclusions, and maybe make a poll to see what others would prefer.

I have now lost at least a decade of my lifespan, and will be seeking reparations in the court of law. I'll post what I wrote below the cut, just be aware that it's not finished, will not be finished if I have a gun to my head, and jumps places every now and then because that's just how I roll in the drafting stage.

I hope to all the gods above that some of you can find sense where I have failed.

BEGIN

Currently doing timeline shenanigans with Bug Fables. I learned something in the lore that will have a major impact in how that timeline manifests. The problem is that this lore detail isn't exactly straight-forward, and has multiple interpretations. I'd like to see some other thoughts on this matter before I make a decision. The lore in question is regarding the creation of the Flower Gods.

A reminder: There is a secret room in Snakemouth Den that displays information regarding the 3 Flower Gods. Prior to seeing this room, most I think didn't even know there were 3 - only knowing of Venus at the time. The other two are Mars and Pluto. These displays tell us a few things. Some information on the gods themselves: Venus is

Guardian: M-001 "Mars" Age: 361 Status: Stable

Guardian: V-012 "Venus" Age: 358 Status: Stable

Guardian: P-183 "Pluto" Age: 34 Status: Stable

This secret asks a whole bunch of questions and answers exactly none of them.

The first thought I see many people go to is that this, of course, confirms that the Roaches created them. However, there is dialogue from Venus herself stating "Ah, it still feels like it was yesterday when they were scurrying around the land trying to get stuff together!" Which doesn't say much, but sort of implies that she was around while the Roaches were still figuring things out.

But what about those designations, what do they mean? For something like this - and considering they all start with the first letter of the Guardian's name - I think it's, like, a version number.

If they were all created by the Roaches, then… wtf? So with Mars, they got it right on their very first try - congratulations, a fucking GOD is born - but their next Guardian took 12 attempts? What? And then Pluto took 183 attempts. And the time discrepancy is just…. weird. Wtf does this mean? The Roaches started off as the best scientists ever, getting everything correct on their first go, then suddenly dropping the ball off the face of the Earth and getting nothing right? For centuries? And after all of that, they consider the Sapling to be their greatest creation. Not any of the Actual Deities they supposedly made. And then they place two of these gods in… just… entirely different territories. Mars is in the Eastern lands. Lord knows where Pluto is, but not Bugaria, that's for sure. I do find this rather unpalatable.

If they weren't created by the Roaches - they were just studying them, trying to replicate their power - I think that fits some of this better. Especially that above quote by Venus. If she was around before the Roaches developed what they have now - the Roaches being the first bugs to awaken - then did she awaken before even them? If she - and, perhaps, Mars - were the first to awaken, then was the Day of Awakening only around 370 years ago? That would probably be the best case scenario for developing a timeline. It'd be the only True Date that can be nailed down, and make it a lot easier to place other dates around it by comparison.

But still… what's the deal with the version numbers? Perhaps the Guardians do not have true immortality, but ressurrective immortality? That would sort imply that Pluto might in fact be the first, and he's on his 183'd life. It would also mean that Mars would actually be the youngest of the gods. Despite being the oldest current version, he is still only on his First version - no deaths, no resurrections. This would also mean that Pluto died around the time the Roaches vanished. But also - if Pluto died 182 times prior to his current iteration… what the fuck kind of life is this guy living? Is he stuck in a death loop, wtf?

This is honestly just another discrepancy, to me. Lets be as conservative as possible and say that most of Pluto's lives were all around 30 years in length. This is so conservative as to be ridiculous, but let's just ignore that. 183 x 30 = 5490. That's Fucking Old - and I'm gonna say, just as ridiculous. Why, then, would the other two gods only have a few years of an age gap? This feels like a strong point towards the idea that the Roaches created them??? that the designations are version numbers before deployment and not ressurrective iterations???

Dragon Ball Super 012

Sigh...

Okay.

Okay, so we’re on our third installment of this fight and Toei has run out of ideas on how to pad this out, so here’s what they’ve come up with: Goku and Beerus are hitting each other so hard that they’re producing magic shockwaves that ripple throughout the entire cosmos.  If they keep this up, their battle will destroy the entire universe. 

Even panicky civilians can feel the effects, so the media tries to call Mr. Satan to find out what’s going on.  He hastily makes up some story about how he’s infiltrated a bad guy facility and they’re making destructive weapons or something.  This is probably meant to set up Episode 15, but I would have preferred it if Toei had spent a little more time setting up Episode 12, the one they were in the middle of working on.

While he’s on the phone, Bulma’s airship nearly crashes on his head, until Whis saves them all.  He shows them a view of the Goku/Beerus fight, and explains how grave the danger is to their universe. 

Then both guys power up and big glowy dragons form out of their energy.  Beerus gets a purple one, and Goku gets a red one.  Then the dragons just vanish back in their own auras, so I’m pretty sure it was just a silly effect designed to pad out the show. 

Then they just go back to hitting each other.  And the Elder Kai estimates that the universe can only take two more of these kind of impacts.  But on the second blow, nothing happens, and apparently Goku figured out some way to cancel out whatever the hell the Elder Kai was worried about. 

This is really dumb, because we’re not even 10% of the way into this series, and this isn’t even Goku’s final form.  Presumably, Goku puts up an even harder fight against Golden Frieza, since he has to use Super Saiyan Blue to beat him.  And then he fights Copy Vegeta at the same level, and in the movies he and Vegeta both fight Broly using Super Saiyan Blue.  None of those battles produced universe-ending shockwaves.  Are we to assume that every character who made it to this level just figured out how to avoid this problem?

But then Beerus and Goku up the ante with a beam struggle, and I guess that just makes even more universe-destroying shockwaves? 

The Elder Kai gives Kibitoshin his favorite dirty magazine as a token of his esteem before the universe ends.  You know what?  I normally don’t indulge this sort of shit in these liveblogs, but this was actually a pleasant diversion from the rest of this shitty episode.  I’m gonna let the Elder Kai have this one. 

Mm-hmm.  That’s some nice anime lady, there.  Ufufu indeed. 

Meanwhile, I guess the universe is still ending?  I hate this so much.

Daitora pokedex

I'm just going to make a post that's the entire pokedex for the Daitora region and I'm going to update it every time I make a new pokemon/ feel like working on it. I'll also include the stats and ability too along with the movepools. I'm gonna put a keep reading tag right below this too so that anyone who somehow stumbles across this post doesn't just have a giant pokedex in their feed. If some things aren't completed, then it means that I either haven't figured it out yet or I didn't feel like doing it at the moment.

The Leaf pokemon

Pangosprout is a very timid and cautious pokemon. It digs through leaves on the forest floor to search for food. When it feels threatened, it will roll into a ball to protect itself.

Dragon Ball 012 - THE ONE WITH THE MONKEY

This is it, isn’t it.  This is the weremonkey episode.

Considering we saw the dragon get summoned at the end of the previous episode… no.  They’re not going to make it in time.

The stakes are so high right now that Yamcha doesn’t even seem to realize how close to Bulma he is.  Their shoulders are touching and he’s not freaking out.

Man, they put a lot of effort into making this moment look big and important.  I don’t think it’s ever going to be treated with this much weight again, but this first time has to be special.

Pilaf gets this little imagine spot of himself as supreme ruler of the world as he’s about to make his wish and really, I share in his excitement.  I want this for him.  Pilaf for mayor.

Bulma and Yamcha despair that it’s too late, Yamcha shocked that the world is about to become this madman’s plaything and Bulma in defeat that despite all her hard work and suffering her wish has been taken away, but Goku doesn’t accept it.  He repeatedly fires Kamehamehas at the wall, trying to break out.  As far as Goku’s concerned, it’s not too late until someone makes a wish.

Oolong, the Plan Guy, is about to save the day.

Interesting how quickly the goals have gone from “we want our own wishes” to “we don’t care anymore, as long as Pilaf doesn’t get HIS.”  There’s a degree of selflessness to how they’re desperately trying to salvage the situation.

Just as Goku finally manages to break through the wall (you know, now that it’s plot convenient), and Pilaf begins speaking his wish, Oolong leaps forward and screams the first wish that pops into his head.

You could have bought that at a store, Oolong, you didn’t need a magical wish granting dragon.

To be fair, the wish itself didn’t matter.  The point is that Oolong prevented world domination, and this is his crowning moment in the story.

Hey, you know this whole situation could be avoided so easily if the dragon only granted a wish to the person who actually activated the balls, but that would make too much sense.

This whole group is acting like a TEAM now!

“Yo cool, deuces.”

Nobody told Goku he wasn’t gonna get his dragon ball back after the wish.  :C  Oh Goku.

“THAT’S IT WE’RE KILLING THEM ALL”

You guys.  You were so close.  :C :C :C

I feel like Goku is just very Done with this whole adventure.  He lost his grandpa’s dragon ball, he’s not having fun anymore, he’s hungry and tired and his heart’s just not in it.

Yamcha goes back for him.  Yamcha does care.

Shu, who apparently has the power to control dogs (but not the ravenous wolves from episode two?) summons a pack of vicious dogs to hunt our heroes down!  They’re not, like, supernatural, powerful dogs or anything.  They’re just normal dogs.

Yamcha’s dragging Goku.  Awww.

Luckily, Goku’s vicious vendetta against animals kicks in.  GOKU KILL COUNTER IT’S GOOD TO HAVE YOU BACK

Goku kill counter:  Sentient fish, talking dinosaur, like 100 wolves probably, one centipede, mohawk tiger bandit, Shu’s empty robot suit, Shu’s pet dogs.

Just for comparison with our villains of the arc:  Pilaf, Mai, and Shu’s kill counter:  nobody.

Yamcha also gets in on beating up the dogs.  Why did you send the dogs, Shu?  What made you think dogs would be effective?  Goku and Yamcha are going to SLAUGHTER those dogs.

Those dogs are going to SLAUGHTER Oolong and Puar.

Boy, I sure am glad that we’re up here and those dogs are down there and that they’re the sheriff and that we’re frozen up here and that we’re down there and I just remembered we’re up here.  What I wanna know is

How are we going to get to the window!?

Mai and Shu suddenly attack, and they look awesome doing it.

Yamcha hits that dog with another dog, but while he’s doing that, Mai and Shu take Bulma hostage.

“No!  Not that girl I just met!  You fiends!”  Seriously, take Puar hostage, it’d be more effective.

Really though, I like that this episode plays Yamcha as the protagonist.  Goku’s pretty much been benched to give Pilaf and the Squad a fighting chance, so the cinematography is all focused on Yamcha’s actions and motivations.  It’s cool to see that.  For one episode, YAMCHA was the main character of Dragon Ball, and we all need to appreciate that.

Captured again.  This time with an adequately explained reason as to why they can’t just break down the walls, THANK YOU.

Those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw… Goku.

Bulma gets into more of the worldbuilding for a bit.  I wonder if you can destroy the dragon balls while they’re made of ordinary stone?  Not that you’d WANT to, but you’d think it might happen by accident at some point.  Some guy with a tractor plows over one, and poof.  Death as a concept regains meaning in your universe.

I kiiiiinda get the feeling Pilaf is a liiiiittle ticked off at them for some reason.

You know, I know it’s just a convoluted deathtrap for the sole narrative purpose of allowing Goku to see the sky, but it’s absolutely in character for Pilaf so I’m cool with it.  Also that is DARK.

Their panic turns quickly to a desperate struggle to get out before the sun rises, and this is DARK.  This is Pilaf suddenly becoming a legitimately threatening villain.

Pilaf’s drinking a coffee and it’s cute.  Look at these baddies just hanging out in the castle rec room.  They’ve got a ping pong table.

Ah yes, the scene where we learn that Puar is secretly a werecat wait no.

“…And that’s the backstory as to why I hate animals!”

REALIZATION HITS

“This explains so much and yet so little!”

This.  Is an OMINOUS SHOT.  Can we all just appreciate the way this scene is directed?

Like okay, this shot right here positions the camera so that Goku already appears to tower over the others.  It’s angled to focus on his tail, which while usually still, is animated in constant motion throughout this entire scene.  The audience realizes what’s about to happen at the same time as the characters, and now the camera work is just working to build the tension higher and higher until the other shoe drops.

“HEY GOKU DON’T LOOK RIGHT HERE AT THIS THING RIGHT HERE THAT I AM POINTING AT AND DRAWING ATTENTION TO, DO NOT LOOK AT THIS SPECIFIC THING, YES THIS ONE.”

I can actually remember the exact tone of Bulma’s english voice actor from watching this episode as a kid, when she pointed at the moon and screamed “It’s right ABOVE you!!”

This is a good frame of animation.

“Well, Oolong, now that you mention it…”

“YEAH, KINDA.”

You know, this show came out around the correct time for this scene to be a direct reference to the transformation sequences in “The Howling.”  And this looks a LOT like “The Howling,” so I gotta wonder if it’s a deliberate reference or just a coincidence.

It’s a fun detail that Mai and Shu sleep in beds right next to Pilaf’s, the only difference being that Pilaf’s bed has a fancy little canopy.

The episode ends as Goku smashes through their little prison cell and starts wrecking Pilaf’s castle, and DANG I have been HYPE for this, I remember how COOL this was when I was a kid, and it did NOT disappoint.  Giant weremonkeys are AWESOME.

The Characters

Orly Steamforged Orly Miniature Alternate paint photo sourced from the Steamforged blog

Hey Orly, sweet baby blue Fullmetal Alchemist military uniform! This fine figure is part of the Steamforged Critical Role resin series. I picked up an Orly model kit at ECCC 2019. Tortles are still pretty rare to encounter in-game, so I’m not in a huge rush to construct and paint it. My home campaign is not really in need of extra tortle figures. Let alone one with a nautical theme and body mod bagpipes. 

The core concept of a turtle tortoise person is rather goofy, but this sculpt looks far from ridiculous. This is a very cool take on a humanoid turtle. Orly looks capable and impressive.

Veth Steamforged Games Veth Brenatto Miniature

I’ve been unable to find any decent photos of Sam’s new mini. Not much to say at this point, aside from I assume this is as nice a model as the other Steamforges. At a distance, her headband and ears line up in such a way that they look like WoW elf eyebrows. But hey, that’s very anime, very on-brand for CR.

The Terrain

Lucidian Ocean Mats by Mars: Dark Caribbean Tabletop Wargaming Play Mat, @Minileed Custom Ship, Valor Maps ship deck paper maps on cardboard, assorted terrain accessories (see The List).

A brutally brilliant map setup! A spectacular naval display the likes of which streaming has never seen. The Ball Eater model by @Minileed returns! This map layout is a great way to track action across multiple multiple decks. The lower levels of the ship are paper maps attached to cardboard and the furniture contents are from Dwarven Forge, TerrainCrate, Hirst Arts, Wizkids, Tiny Terrain, and others.

Many of these models have been featured on past maps. The Tiny Furniture chest of drawers is new, it looks very stylish, very post-d20 Modern. The Wizkids cannons are also new. They look slick, the paint work is precise and clean. The fact that these are from an official D&D lines is good news for fantasy setting firearm enthusiasts. Guns and those to sling them have been in Critical Role from the start and it’s nice to see wider D&D setting acceptance of such tech.

The Spell Effects

At first, I scoffed at the Halaster’s Tumultuous Templates $59.99 MSRP. But now that I’ve seen them modeled by Matthew Mercer, I’m more liable to purchase them. These templates look splendid both on the battlemat and on the DM Matt.

The Villains and Monsters

The two Sahuagin minis that appear in this episode are from the D&D Icons of the Realms Classic Creatures set. A boxed set including 9 classic monster minis designed to look like the original Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Monster Manual art. Good idea, bad execution.

The sculpt fidelity and paint quality throughout is rough. These miniatures needed to be larger scale with higher sculpt resolution to properly capture the art style and creature design of the old school art. Quite a bummer. For comparison, here are some D&D Miniatures Game sahuagin and a Pathfinder Battles sea devil:

What a difference. Sure the above models are bulkier, but they have so much more character and detail. Shockingly, the rightmost figure (Skull & Shackles #008 Sea Devil Champion) and the Classic Creatures miniatures are both manufactured by Wizkids. What gives, did they forget how to make aquatic monster humanoids over the span of several years?

Sea Spawn Monster Menagerie 3 #023 Sea Spawn

Not a huge improvement over the Sahuagin, but the detail is a tad better. The face is distinct and the paint work is passable. This is a serviceable minion. 

Uk’otoa Acolyte Maze of Death #018 Urdefhan Necromancer

I’m conflicted about this figure. I like the character design, pose, and paint. However, the level of detail in the casting is disappointing. This is most apparent in the arms and hands. They hardly look like limbs and digits, more like pool noodles really. This doesn't sink the model for me though. On the whole Urdefhan Necromancer is a quality villain miniature.

Closing Thoughts

Not the best episode for monster models. But the good news is that the party has two clerics with two diamonds and we are unlikely to see the worst of this episode’s minis again. Uk’otoa needs to find some more stylin’ acolytes.

Pedantic monster model complaints aside, this combat presentation was glorious. And even the uglier miniatures looked reasonably good on camera among the high quality terrain and professional lighting conditions. 

Episode 99 will presumably involve the diplomatic ship meeting. If the peace talks are disrupted, the resulting encounter map is sure to be incredible.

Favorite video games of all time?

Get ready for a LONG post, folks! However…allow me to break this down to my three favorite video game genres: Fighting games, RPGs/JRPGs, and Platformers/Action Platformers (both 2D and 3D). However! Since I feel like these posts are gonna take MUCH longer than I thought it would, I’m just gonna divide the genres into separate posts. But for now, let’s stick with the…

FIGHTING GAMES!:

Dragon Ball FighterZ: My number one favorite (traditional) fighting game of all time. My favorite ArcSys game of all time. My favorite Dragon Ball game of all time. This game is the reason how I got into the Dragon Ball franchise back when I’ve had to little to NO interest in the franchise, even when I’ve watched the ENTIRE Namek saga from the original anime back in 2009. The game’s GORGEOUS art style, every character animation’s (such as specials, supers, intros, victory poses, and ESPECIALLY the Dramatic Finishes) faithfulness to the original manga AND anime of Dragon Ball Z and other DB properties (such as GT and Super), the AWESOME soundtrack (courtesy of ArcSys theirselves, who’re known for awesome music in their games), the 3v3 gameplay, the character roster (though I’ll admit that having five Gokus and Three Vegetas is rather silly), having a new character design by DB creator Akira Toriyama himself, and lastly, being a breath of fresh air to those new to the fighting game genre (since the genre itself is notorious for its high learning curves) AND to Dragon Ball fans who were sick and tired of having the story of DBZ recapped over and over and over AND OVER AGAIN is a fucking sight to behold. This game FUCKING RULES (and a million times better than MvC:I). However, I wouldn’t call it perfect. I’ll admit that the Story Mode is rather lackluster, Arcade Mode is rather lacking, the Shop is completely randomized, and the Online Mode, much like every other fighting game, suffers from lag, spammable players, or just outright ragequitters. That, and the fact that, unlike MvC3 and BB:CTB, every character assist only sticks to ONE attack (meaning that more than one character is gonna have a Kamehameha assist), and that MOST PLAYERS you’re gonna run into is gonna main the likes of Cell (who ENJOYS dragging out combos for as long as possible), Adult Gohan (like Cell, also drags out long combos), and Vegeta (Super Saiyan, because of his assist. Need I say more?). But aside from those flaws, it is hands down the BEST fighting game I’ve ever played, next to…well, below.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: My number one favorite (unique) fighting game of all time. My favorite Nintendo game of all time. Series creator Masahiro Sakurai is a man that I’d like to describe as…well, not only doing the impossible and HIGHLY respected, but also putting those filthy naysayers about certain characters in their place. The fact that the whole point of Smash Ultimate was to include EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER FROM SMASH 64 TO SMASH 4 (Wii U and 3DS), INCLUDING EVERY THIRD-PARTY CHARACTERS DESPITE THE LICENSING AND DEVELOPMENT ISSUES THIS WOULD CAUSE is another sight to behold. FUCK Melee, THIS is hands-down the best Smash game of all time! The inclusion of Spirits, the Adventure Mode, the Boss battles, the gameplay, the kind of chicanery you can pull, the game’s main theme “Lifelight”, the roster, the soundtrack…there’s just ALOT about this game that I just fucking adore. What can you make folks more hyped about this game? Oh, I don’t know…why not shock everybody with JOKER (from Persona 5) AND BANJO & KAZOOIE (who’s still owned by Microsoft) being in the game. What I love about Smash Bros is how Sakurai is just outright defies those say certain characters can’t appear in the series for silliest (or justifiable) reasons. Cloud can’t be in Smash because his game was never released on a Nintendo console until 2019? No problem! Ridley’s too big therefore he can’t be playable? Fuck that! Banjo & Kazooie can’t be in Smash because they’re owned by Microsoft of the Xbox brand? It’s fine! Why? “Because I AM HERE!” -Banjo (JK, but seriously, the fact that Banjo’s in was quite a surprise.) Smash 4 is the reason how I got into Final Fantasy VII, and I hold the entire Smash series in high regard for doing so. Goddamn, do I love this franchise! But! Again, it’s not perfect. The Online Mode is MUCH worse than DBFighterZ (to the point where you’re more than likely to end up in a battle with Items TURNED ON or stages with distracting hazards, OR end up fighting the SAME fucking characters I hate fighting against, such as Little Mac, Falco, Inkling, Incineroar, etc.), and that fighting against EVERY single spirit in the Adventure Mode to get 100% can get rather tiring (not to mention that you gotta get BOTH bad endings from fighting Galeem solo AND Dharkon solo), lack of additional content upon release (Stage Builder and Home-Run Content weren’t even implemented into the game at first), and lastly (although these two complaints are one of more personal matter and one towards Square Enix), the fact Zero from Mega Man X, my favorite video game character is ASSIST character instead of a playable was really heartbreaking to see (but hey, I’m not complaining TOO much since I enjoy interacting with him in my free time in Training), and lastly, the fact that Cloud, and to high extent, Final Fantasy VII AND the FF franchise as a whole has LITTLE TO NO representation in this game whatsoever (again, I feel like this was more of SE’s fault than Sakurai’s). No spirits, no “Fighter Spirit” artwork from the original FFVII, no Assist characters, not being dubbed in English AGAIN (though this was more of a contract issue with SE), no additional music on Midgar, NOTHING. But, nonetheless…this game is fucking awesome.

Blazblue: Cross Tag Battle: Ahahahahaha! Ah…Oh, Blazblue…I love this franchise oh-so much, but the fact that it hasn’t received the same treatment as Guilty Gear lately (not to mention the mainstream Blazblue games, aka the C-series, has pretty much came to an end) is a rather sad sight to see…depression aside, I love Blazblue. I REALLY do! I love the characters, I love the stages, I love the music, the story is confusing as FUCK, but it’s a fighting game franchise I’ve discovered WAY back 2012 and I still love to this day, even more so than Guilty Gear (don’t @ me). So…what to do now? Could there perhaps be another Blazblue game? A game that just so happens to be a crossover? One just as awesome as Smash Bros? Ooh! How about…PERSONA 4?!? UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH?!? A FRANCHISE THAT, LIKE DRAGON BALL AND FFVII, I’VE HAD NO INTEREST IN UP UNTIL 2018 (aka RWBY)?!? AAAAAAAAAAAAAA- Fangasm aside, the fact that this game even EXISTS is an achievement in its own right. As stated before, this game is the reason how I got into RWBY. What I really love and adore about the game are the interactions among the characters. That, and I was SO HAPPY to hear that the game would be dubbed in English, after GG:Xrd Revelator and BB: Central Fiction lacked a dub. I was not only excited to hear the likes of Ragna, Noel, and Hazama voiced in English again, but I was also happy to hear that any characters who’ve never been dubbed in English in the past (characters from UNIB, newcomers in BB:CF, etc.) would be dubbed in English as well. Hell, the fact that the characters from both Blazblue AND Persona 4 (two franchises/games I really love) being in the EXACT same game together was enough to make me be all like “Shut up, and take my money!”, considering how crazy excited I was in the past to see them interacting with one another via fanart and fanfiction (thanks to the Persona 4 Arena games being developed by ArcSys). And if you thought having only THOSE four franchises in the game was enough, you’d be wrong! Here’s Arcana Heart! Here’s Senran Kagura! Here’s a FIFTH character from RWBY: Neo Politan! This game, much like DBFZ and Smash Ultimate, is awesome. However, complaints I do have towards the game are the Online Mode (although the chibi interactions are cute and adorable and I will praise the Online Mode for that, and ONLY THAT), Gordeau from UNIB is still a problem, the rest of the half of the roster is entirely DLC, lack of additional content upon release, the control scheme is WAY too simplistic (even moreso than DBFZ), and lastly, while I love the sprites ArcSys did for RWBY, the reused sprites from Blazblue, Persona 4 Arena, and UNIB is also a complaint I have (but a minor one, mind you. They could’ve just easily redone the sprites specifically for this game, but…no). And while this game isn’t exactly in my top two favorite fighting games, it’s definitely in my top THREE. Also, I have yet to actually to play the Story Mode of this game, but I haven’t yet, therefore, I hold no opinion on the story as of currently. Marvel vs Capcom-styled traditional fighting games are hands-down, my go-to preference for traditional fighters.

Dissidia (and Dissidia 012): Final Fantasy: Forget Dissidia NT, THIS game (mostly Dissidia 012) is what an awesome 3D Action Fighting game is about! Much like how Smash Ultimate’s a unique fighting game (a Platform Fighter), this game is also a unique type of fighting game, possessing RPG elements and just having a blast with its awesome combat system. Cloud and Sephiroth were just so much fun to play as, with Terra, Squall, and WoL being my other favorite characters in this awesome game. This game is also essentially a HUGE homage to Final Fantasy as whole. From the ongoing conflicts between Cosmos and Chaos, to MULTIPLE references to the character’s original games, to additional modes that involve unlocking the likes of Gilgamesh from FFV, or fighting against the most frustrating secret final boss I’ve ever had the displeasure of fighting against (Feral Chaos), these games are awesome! Also, the reason why I’m addressing both games as a single installment here is because technically, while Dissidia 012 IS a prequel, it pretty has the same content (no, scratch that, MORE content) from the first Dissidia game and it’s pretty much an updated…well, not a “port”, per say, more like an enhanced re-release, much like Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 or any of the Blazblue EXTEND re-releases. However, complaints I have for Dissidia is that certain characters are annoying to fight against (such as Jecht, FUCK that character), the RPG system takes a while to build up until your favorite characters are FINALLY at Level 100, trying to get the rarest Equipment is rather difficult, and lastly, the action commands for certain character’s EX Bursts can be retooled for the sake of a proper fighting game, but then again, Dissidia ain’t a “traditional” fighting game. But aside from that, not only is this my favorite Action RPG/Fighting game of all time, but this is also my favorite Final Fantasy Spin-Off of all time.

Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars: What’s that? You were expecting a Marvel vs Capcom game to be on this list, let alone my top 5? Too bad! It’s Tatsunoko, baby! This one definitely holds a spot in my heart as this game stands as my number one favorite “Capcom vs Whatever” game of all time (yes, even moreso than Marvel vs Capcom itself OR any of the SNK vs Capcom games, don’t @ me). I love this game. I love its soundtrack (ESPECIALLY its main theme, “Across the Border”), I love the roster (despite being small), I love the final boss of the Arcade Mode (Yami, from Capcom’s Okami), and I love the gameplay. My complaints goes towards the lack of additional content outside of Arcade and the Gallery (although the top-down shooter minigame is rather fun), and, as stated before, small roster. But other than that, this game was really fun to play.

Beck’s not allowed to have coffee. The world isn’t ready for that degree of energy. But also she just enjoys tea better.

006. What sense do they most rely on?

It depends on the form she’s currently in. For instance in hawk form it’s definitely sight, fox form most of it’s hearing, bear form it’s smell. In her human form idk if she relies on this the most but she’s probably at least the most aware of her sense of sight?

009. Do they believe in happy endings?

Sure. She’s not really the Debbie Downer type, and she fully believes she could have been truly happy with Harper if not for her penchant for self-indulgence and her overwhelming anxiety when it comes to conforming to society.

012. What makes your character embarrassed?

I’m not super sure this is a feeling Beck has tbh XD. I have a whole headcanon about this somewhere that I’ll link if you can find it. But like, it’s near impossible to embarrass Beck.

015. Are they most likely to fight with their fists or their tongue?

Beck’s not very likely to fight at all. She loves to stir shit up and rile people that she doesn’t like especially (or ones she wants to fuck lmfao), but when things turn into a real fight even if it’s just an argument, Beck’s more likely to head for the door. She dislikes confrontation. It makes her very uncomfortable.

018. Your character wakes up to find that war has been declared. What do they do?

Probably leave. If leaving it’s an option she’ll keep her head down until she has to do something. Like I said Beck doesn’t do fighting unless her back is to the wall and she has no choice. If she had to take some sort of role in a war it would probably be more espionage related.

021. How do they display affection?

All of the ways. TBH Beck is very affectionate even to her friends. Most prominently she wants to touch you and be touched. She’s very touch motivated. But she’ll also make things like knitting scarves and hats or cook food for her loved ones. She spends a lot of time with that person rather than running off into the woods constantly. She’ll sing to you a lot. And basically she’ll just kind of actually listen to you and respect you. Like if you tell her something to do she’ll do it rather than being an asshole.

024. What do they consider ugly in others physically?

Beck’s not super down with bodily hair. It’s one of the big reasons that even tho she’s bi she doesn’t fuck a lot of dudes. She’s never understood why women’s hair is supposedly gross and men can just grow a fur pelt on their legs/arms/chest/underarms and no one says shit. She’s a million times more likely to sleep with a man who shaves. 

She also just finds a general lack of hygiene to be a real turn off. Beck makes it a point, even living in the woods, even without the constant use of magic, to look presentable. She doesn’t like people that look nasty. Wash your hair. Take a bath. Brush your teeth. Otherwise she’s taking a hard pass.

027. What is their idea of perfect happiness?

Beck’s idea of perfect happiness is finding someone who will live with her and travel with her and they can be wild wanderers and roam the world together unburdened by people. Where her familiars are happy and safe and she’s free.

030. Do they believe in the afterlife?

Sort of? Witch opinions vary just as much as ours when it comes to what happens to you after you die, with each theory holding a significant amount of weight. Beck’s in the unique position where she doesn’t often thing about it, because she knows her “death” it’s really going to be a thing. As a feral witch her life, unless abruptly ended through murder, is going to end with her spirit being reclaimed by the wilds, and never returning to the world of men or the life she knew before.

033. Do they keep their promises?

Beck generally doesn’t make promises. If she does, whether or not she keeps them depends on who you are to her. She’s a liar and a manipulator and a con-woman, of course she’s going to break promises. When she makes a witch’s deal (something she can’t break) she makes sure only to make them if they’re stacked in her favor and she’s able to fuck someone over if the desire strikes her.

Beck does try to keep promises she makes to people she genuinely likes. Like there are a couple of promises she made to Fen when they were kids, and even though he’s been warped and changed over the years, she still keeps her promises to him, even though he can’t hold her to them.

036. How honorable is your character?

….I mean not really at all.

039. What do they think is the worst thing that can be done to a person?

Imprisonment, probably? Or being forced to change who they really are.

042. What is their greatest achievement?

She’s a very good shifter and a decent dream walker. These are both abilities she was born with, sure, but having any control over your dream walking takes a lot of time and practice, and most witches never learn to take the form of anything aside from their clan symbol.

045. Does your character have any chronic medical conditions?

Not really

048. Do they have any allergies?

She often claims to be allergic to people who annoy her but that’s 100 percent not true and she’s allergy free. Witches on the whole tend to be very healthy creatures.

051. If they knew they would die tomorrow, what would they do today?

Probably contact Fenris and Harper and Cora and her amma. Mostly Fenris and Harper, because there’s still a lot unsaid between them. She’d want to say goodbye to Cora and her amma, but one of her greatest fears is dying without talking to her brother one last time and letting him know some things. Harper isn’t as dire to where it causes her anxiety to even entertain the thought that she might die without having one last talk, but if she KNEW she was dying, she’d want to try and give Harper closure, to let her know their fall out wasn’t Harper’s fault, and to tell her that she still loved her.

054. Does your character want power or authority of any kind?

Nah. Beck’s attracted to women that have both power and authority, but that’s just her type. Beck herself really has no interest in being in charge of anything. That’s too much responsibility. And the only power she needs is the power to do what she wants—which she has.

057. Has your character ever killed anyone?

It depends on the verse. In her verse for t100 yes she has killed and more than once. Each time was out of self defense and she had no other options.

060. What is your character’s attitude toward education and learning?

As an educator myself her attitude toward education is frustratingly apathetic. She was so severely neglected as a child that paired with her dyslexia she never really learned how to read beyond some very basic shit. Math was always frustrating for her. Service was hell for Beck because when it comes to reading spell books she’s useless, and she’s not particularly interested in learning spells she doesn’t feel will be of use to her. So like, she’ll encourage other people if they want to get an education, but she’s going to take a pass.

063. How well does your character handle difficult people?

Fairly well? I guess it depends on the type of difficult. Like I have a verse with @lcgioned where Beck’s life goal seems to annoy Lexa into an early grave, and yet she gets along with post-dictator Octavia just fine. Beck doesn’t really have a temper, and she doesn’t really do fights, so it’s hard to be too difficult for her. She just kind of rolls with it. 

The kind of person she really struggles with is the one that wants her to conform. The one that tells her she can’t act that way or scolds her because her behavior reflects poorly on them. If Beck doesn’t already like that person, for example she’s more than willing to behave to make Asha look good in my verse with @ashayara, then they can fuck off. Respect from Beck, in large part, comes from affection, and she doesn’t just listen to people because she should or she was told to. She won’t be controlled and micromanaged, so in order to curb her less desirable habits you have to be smart and endear her to you so that she’ll care about what you think. Because in general she doesn’t care how people see her. She doesn’t care if they think she’s strange or crazy, she’s living her gd life and it’s not their business.

066. Does your character prefer city life or being out in nature?

Nature. She doesn’t even tolerate cities well. They make her irritated and sometimes, if she’s subjected to them long enough, physically ill from all the anxiety they cause.

069. What about your character is heroic?

Hahahahahahahahahahaha………. I don’t know?????? I’m so sorry. I don’t see anything about Beck as heroic. Beck won’t like, stand by and let you murder a child or something horrendous if it’s like, right there in front of her. Like if she’s faced with something that she can put a stop to without it being too much of a risk to herself or her familiars she’ll do it, but Beck isn’t going out of her way to help people because it’s the “right” thing to do and she’s rarely going to put herself in danger unless it’s someone she loves on the line.

072. In a Dungeons & Dragons game, which class would your character be? (wizard, fighter, bard, priest, ranger, etc.)

I have never played D&D, so I honestly couldn’t answer this? I would assume either a wizard or a ranger just from what the name sounds like, but Idk.

075. Is your character ticklish?

Very and in all forms so think on that for a good while.

078. How emotionally stable is your character?

Beck lives in a stone fortress of denial that can only fall if you hit her with some major shit. Like she’s obstinately, often unshakably happy. Even if she slips for a few seconds, even in the worst and weirdest situations, she’ll turn around and be a smiling, ball of sunshine after a few seconds to gather herself.

Of course she does have a history of abuse, and especially in verses like ours she’s going through a lot, so she isn’t on as firm a footing as normal, but Beck’s not easy to shake in general.

081. Is your character religious?

Not really? Which is strange because she’s nominally a priestess to her people. But it’s more of a cultural thing. Like, witches in and of themselves don’t worship gods per se, but they hold their traditions and myths and stories in an almost religious regard. It’s very strange, I have a couple of deeper headcanons on it, but to make it kind of simple: Beck isn’t at all what we would likely call “religious” in our society.

I’m… not super sure what this means. If it means is she like, an animated person to talk to then yes. Unless she’s specifically trying to stay calm and use that to influence the emotions of something else, Beck’s never still. She’s almost kind of dizzying to talk to not because she moves in any crazy, major way, but just because it never stops.

093. What is your character’s goal in life?

To be free.

096. How do they move and carry themselves? What energy do they project?

Beck’s energy is best described as “a lot.” She’s got a big presence and like I just mentioned, she’s very active and animated. She doesn’t walk around slumped over, shy, or ashamed of herself. Unless she’s specifically trying to like fade into a crowd, she’s generally someone who grabs the eye because she’s confident and active and engaging to deal with and it’s almost overbearing over long periods of time.

099. Do they talk to inanimate objects?

She’s got a weird concept of inanimate. Like, in her world there are spirits all over the place, and they have a varying degree of sentience depending on the spirits, their age, their type, and the population density. So she’ll compliment a waterfall on how lovely it’s looking today but a small part of her thinks that like the spirits in the area take note of that and enjoy it even if they’re only semi-sentient. She struggles with seeing how those things aren’t transferable to stuff like computers and cellphones. In cities where most of the natural, open spirits that interact with everything without their own ulterior motives have been driven out, there aren’t any “cell phone” or “computer” spirits, but she’s so in the habit of it that (generally when she’s frustrated she’ll forget) she’ll curse at them or ascribe motive to something an inanimate object is doing.

Harper once bought Beck an extremely expensive sports car, only to immediately sell it after Beck amassed 4 speeding tickets in a month and got her license suspended because, as Beck put it, “the car wanted to go fast.”

Dragon Ball Z 012

Gohan seems to have resolved to return home to his mother.    I take that to mean that he’s become so comfortable living in the wilderness that he’s willing to risk crossing the desert separating him from civilization.

Meanwhile, Goku’s still runnin’.

And Bulma is still looking for Tien.   I’m not sure how much time has passed, but long enough for her to drop Yamcha off and switch to another aircraft.   Still don’t know why Krillin came along, especially if he’s just gonna gripe about Yamcha getting a head start on the training.

I just noticed Bulma’s cleavage below the subtitle.    I usually find fanservice kind of pathetic, but something about this appeals to me.   Maybe because it took me so long to spot it?   Maybe this was why Krilling tagged along.

Anyway, Tien (and Chiaotzu) are training, just like they’ve been doing ever since the 23rd Budokai ended.  

As Krillin said back in episode 2, Launch has been stalking Tien all this time.   I’m not sure how successful her efforts have been, but by this episode she’s got a house, and she’s close enough to Tien that she can get him to come over for dinner.

Also, she has all these cooks and chefs here to make the food.   She says she paid them, but they look a little too nervous to have been paid for their services.   

Tien explains why he feels the need to train like he does, and Launch doesn’t get it.    As far as she’s concerned, Goku’s unbeatable, and things have been peaceful since the tournament, so there’s nothing to train for.

She proposes that Tien team up with her and help her rob banks.    Honestly, I don’t see why she even needs the help.   She acts like they’d be an unstoppable team, but she’s been pretty unstoppable on her own.  

Though, I suppose she wouldn’t mind the extra security of having Tien with her.   You’d think living on his training ground would be ideal, then but I suppose she gets bored.    Maybe that’s what Launch is all about.    She craves excitement, but also security, and it’s tough to have both of those things at once.   As much as she wants to be with Tien, she doesn’t seem too thrilled with the idea of staying put whenever he decides to stay in one place.  

Anyway, Tien abruptly leaves, and Launch takes her frustrations out by shooting at Chiaotzu as he follows him.   I’m pretty sure Tien took offense at her suggestion that he join her in a life of crime.    She doesn’t seem to understand him, although I’m not sure she ever did, and it didn’t seem to bother him before.

Meanwhile, Goku encounters a street-sweeper on Snake Way.    He informs Goku that he’s not even a quarter of the way to King Kai’s, and then he offers Goku a ride on the back of his truck.   You’d think he’d let Goku ride in the cab, but oh well.

Back on Earth, Piccolo moves pyramids with his mind.    It’d be awesome if he busted this out when the Saiyans showed up.   

PICCOLO: Time to put my training to good use!

NAPPA: Holy crap, that pyramid is moving on its own!    

VEGETA: It must be haunted, Nappa!   We must withdraw at once!

Anyway, Piccolo screws something up, and the whole area has some sort of earthquake or something.

Piccolo blames himself for this, which I guess means it wasn’t a natural occurrence.  

Indeed, Gohan notices the disturbance all the way over where he is. 

And Launch can feel the tremors at her own house, so I guess she must be nearby as well.

Her house collapses, so she flees outside.

Then the waterfall Tien’s been jacking with starts going haywire, so Tien saves Launch by using his ki to protect them from the water.

After it’s over, Launch is so cold that she sneezes, and her other self apologizes for whatever trouble she’s caused.   She heads back to Master Roshi’s place...

But it doesn’t last very long.

Tien’s Launch-saving stunt produced enough of a signal for Bulma to spot him on the scouter, so they show up soon after and fill him in on what’s been going on.   Tien is thrilled to be training under Kami, but there’s just one problem...

Fortunately, Launch doesn’t seem to mind Tien going, since she plans to follow him no matter what.

Meanwhile, Goku’s fallen asleep on the back of the street-sweeper.

And then he falls off when the truck makes a sharp turn.

Goku lands in hell, just as he was warned would happen if he fell off the road, but he doesn’t know he fell, so he starts to think he’s somehow arrived at King Kai’s place.

He sees a fruit tree and decides it’s Peach Time, but then he gets clobbered from behind.   Uh-oh.
