Floater -

The Floater's goal is to stay out of the way and to be seen as a non-threat while the Leaders and the Gamers take themselves out of the game. Unlike Coasters, Floaters deliberately attempt either to play multiple sides of the house against each other or to remain in the middle of opposing alliances in order to strategically further themselves in the game. The typical competitive strategy choice for Floaters are selective or passive.

Iconically and ironically, after winning the week 4 Head of Household Rachel Reilly Villegas* called Kristen Bitting a floater and not a coaster.

San Diego Comic Con is winding down and as usual Saturday's Hall H haul was newsworthy.

There was the expected: teases from upcoming films THUNDERBOLTS, CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD

and FANTASTIC FOUR.

and a big surprise - to me. Apparently, there has been scuttlebutt for nearly two months about this -Robert Downey Jr's return to the MCU.

Discussion of the Max animated series CREATURE COMMANDOS,

panel and new trailer for THE PENGUIN.

It was confirmed that Colin Farrell will reprise his role in THE BATMAN sequel which is to start filming next year.

Not announced during the panel or shown in the new trailer is confirmation on what was announced in September: Mark Strong has taken over the role of Carmine Falcone from John Turturro. Strong was scene in a video that played in THE PENGUIN activation (the activation that was briefly evacuated for a time on Friday due to a fire).

-Speaking of THE PENGUIN, in the animated series BATMAN: CAPED CRUSADER, Penguin will be genderswapped and voiced by Minnie Driver. Meet Oswalda Cobblepot.

Driver will also sing in the show. Years ago one of her songs was even used on SMALLVILLE.

ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN will introduce Superboy.

Jack Quaid repping (who voices Superman) repping Supes.

Another thing not mentioned during Comic Con, but on IG. Found in a post by PEACEMAKER director Peter Sollet was his announcement of completing his first week on the series and thanked the cast, including Joel Kinnaman whose Rick Flagg met his demise in THE SUICIDE SQUAD. Surely a flashback and no comic book chicanery.

Snake -

The Snake's goal is to influence the other houseguests into evicting one another without bringing attention to himself or herself. A Snake will typically select the passive or selective competitive strategy. Fans sometimes refer to this strategy as being a rat, and is not a very popular strategy among the fans. Nicole Franzel-Arroyo* and Da’vonne Rogers worked together twice (BB18&BB22) with this strategy.

i think one of the bigger tells we have in the kirby fandom for whether someone is genuinely trying to share information or is just trying to start slapfights about headcanon is the phrase “kirby is canonically nonbinary in japan”. i’ve almost never seen that phrase used as anything other than code for “your headcanon is wrong” - when it is said earnestly, it’s almost always because the person saying it was just repeating it from elsewhere.

*for those just tuning in: kirby isn’t canonically anything in japan. his gender is strictly unknown and this is a very intentional choice on HAL’s part. japanese is what is known as a “pro-drop language”, which means that pronouns of all classes can be omitted from standard linguistical use. this is particularly true of second- and third-person pronouns; saying “he” or “she” often sounds unnatural in speech. you could give a whole description of someone in japanese without ever inferring their gender, and this is exactly what HAL does with kirby. it’s a completely normal and mundane function of the language - kirby isn’t even the only character who is referred to this way! several major and minor characters never have their gender referred to in any way, including meta knight for example.

the only slightly gendered thing about kirby is his first-person pronoun: he uses “boku” in japanese on the rare occasions that he speaks. boku is a typically masculine pronoun, but it gives off an informal, young boy kind of feel, and is commonly used by all genders in media.

kirby, like a lot of nintendo’s early protagonists, is meant to be something of a blank slate for the player to project what they want on. in external media like comic books, twitter posts, etc., kirby is often shown participating in both girls-only and boys-only events. makiko ohmoto has said that she sees people imagining kirby as a boy or as a girl and that she’s fond of any interpretation.

(for a bit of an added fun fact, this is a large part of why female kirby interpretations are so popular in the japanese fandom - gijinka or otherwise!)
