Irregularities indeed...

Intergrating 41-D had been a mixed blessing (and quite the pain to make happen in the first place, given the difficulty of safely extracting Aves' wires from within her body in the first place.)

The young woman had reacted quite negatively to the presence of the little bot within her mind, and had attacked it mentally. Aid appeared to be fine, (though they had to be pursuaded not to launch their own offensive back at the patient.)

On the other hand, they discovered that Aves was already having success sorting through the data on their own... and far more quickly then Rook had anticipated. She would recover on her own, it would just be a slower process.

...that was fine. There were still plenty of beds within his clinic. Only a few of the Julai evacuees had been brought to his door, and only because they had been in that city as visitors instead of residents.

(Residents had a different evacuation point.)

There was no need to rush her recovery. Aves could take her time and Heal at her own pace.

"I don't want to be a piece in your fucking game."

So this render has a LOT going on in it, and in order to explain it all, I have to briefly explain some events from the D&D campaign Rook is in.

Basically, Rook met a guy named Sigmar, who ended up becoming Rook's mentor. They got super close, and Rook is very attached to him. However, as it turns out, Sigmar is actually Dr. Purity, the potential final villain of the entire campaign. And Maka (the wizard) knew this, and still let Rook get close to him. Maka's reasoning was that as long as Sigmar/Purity is preoccupied with Rook, he won't be trying to destroy the world. And he was right.

So now, Rook has to find out that basically only the second person who was ever kind to him and cared about him (party PCs excluded) is actually evil. And it's going to destroy him. And he's going to be furious, but not at Sigmar. He cares too much about Sigmar to be mad at him, at least not yet. But Maka... Maka has been using Rook as a piece in this grand game and didn't even deign to let him know.

There was a scene that we played out months ago where Maka beat Sigmar in a game of chess, and his player specifically narrated that he used the Rook piece to take Sigmar's king. And the DM reminded me of that detail, and thus this render was born. (It's funny. I never intended any of this chess shit to happen, but now it's like a major theming thing for Rook's character... Funny how that works.)

Oh, and of course there's the fact that the party just a day or two ago lectured Rook about hiding things from them. Things that had much less to do with them than this fact about Sigmar has to do with him. So he's going to be very upset at their hypocrisy.

Anyways, I'm not quite sure exactly how the reveal will play out in-game, but I know it's going to be bad for Rook. He's already reckless and impulsive (occasionally to the point of hurting himself) at more decent times, let alone when he's upset, and he's never ever been this upset in-game before.

Okay, last fun fact of the day: I actually looked up chess checkmate patterns for this render. The one shown here is the Vukovic Mate.

Wait, I lied. One more. Before I even knew that Sigmar was going to betray the party, I gave his sim the same ring that I gave Rook's father, Alistair. Funny that the two people to wear that ring cc are two of the people who've hurt him the most in his entire life...

All I have are my own observations on the matter... and what I see is an exhausted, frustrated young man who is far harder on himself then he deserves." He wanted very much to give the boy a hug. It looked like he needed it, but Rook doubted it would be appreciated. "...I hope you can believe that for yourself one day. I know for myself how terribly difficult that can be." Rook seemed distant a moment before shaking his head. "I want you to know that my door is always open to you. If you need anything... even if it's as simple as a good meal and a safe place to rest for a while, okay? I won't ask questions, so don't be afraid if you need help."

“Yeah, an’ look what good that’s done ‘em.” He’d bristled at the mention of being a teenager- still a sore spot, shaking his head. “I’ll show you ‘hiding feelings’ with a black fuckin’ eye.” Despite his words, however, he made no move to make good on his threat.

“There’s only a few people ‘round here that actually know ME, not that other one, an’ far as they’re concerned I’m jus’ some bad-news, asshole con artist. I plan to keep it that way.” Well. Perhaps not to Vash. He was pretty sure that blond-haired idiot somehow saw through him… he just wasn’t sure HOW far he’d seen. It was… nerve-wracking.

"Some people from the town nearby." Rook told him honestly. "I believe they said that they saw you while driving off the main road to avoid a wormspout. It's a lucky thing. They might not have spotted you otherwise." The old man let out a small sigh, giving Angelo a careful pat on his arm. "I understand. It can be quite unsettling to wake up in a strange place. I'm not going to fault you for reacting." Rook spoke with a gentle tone. "But you ARE safe here, and I'm going to do everything that I can to help you, alright?"

Cont. @flutterfae-rp Angelo tried to steady his breathing, squeezing his eyes shut as he tried to ground himself. A clinc. He was in a clinic. He wasn't kidnapped or anything, they weren't about to tear him apart to sell. He was just in a doctor's clinic. It explained the... overly friendly decor at least. "I'm... I apologize, when one doesn't know where they are- it's understandable to panic a little." He still didn't get why this doctor felt concerned for him, but the worry did wound Angelo, more than that attempted use of his powers probably did. "I... don't plan on trying that again anyways, I should be fine." He wasn't going to try sitting up again either. "Who brought me in here, Doctor Rook?" How much had the Doctor seen? How much had the stranger who brought him in seen? Where the fuck was his Punisher? Those bastard slavers better now have it-

Petra's chapter 3 concept

Welp. I finally caved and gave into the full prediction. Or at least my take on Tenna, Mike, and Rook. (Plus a shop keep for Bitsy)

Are my takes on Rook and Tenna a little safe/cliche? Probably, but I still like them. Especially Tenna. She's a silly fella. A real wiser cracker. They berate Mike over their hyper specific coffee order off camera.

I might also hear you asking "Petra, if your Rook and Tenna are horrible people, how are they supposed to mirror Asgore and Toriel?" IDK. I just wrote that down and am still working the take out. Additionally, while they'd be parallels, they wouldn't be one to one. Most of how I imagine them atm is they're how Kris wishes Asgore and Toriel were when it comes to their relationship. Aka, loving and together. Rook and Tenna are horrible people in a healthy relationship, Toriel and Asgore are relatively good people who's relationship wasn't working.

Again, I don't know, I'm still working on it.

Also Mike. I think Mike is my favorite take/design of these three. Overworked, tired, boom mic operator/stage hand who hates it here. Even prior to Rook meeting the Knight and making changes to the studio, Mike was generally under appreciated and didn't like all the entitled actors he had to work with. Especially Tenna. Only person he's worked with who he's actually liked and gotten along with was Spamton, who I imagine did some commercials back in his Big Shot days. (Oh if only Mike knew what Spam was going through in those days... The horrors.) As for Mike's opinion on Bitsy? He tolerated her, pre- the spider's popularity. I imagine after Bitsy signed that contract with her mysterious benefactor, she became a little bit of a brat off camera. Before just completely going off the rails at least.

Just some more notes on stuff. Rook is based on the TV remote and Tenna was originally just a game show/variety show host before Rook started cutting corners and costs and so now half the channels are hosted by Tenna or sponsored by TennaVision. Tenna is either the TV itself, or more likely just the antennas. Mike's of course a microphone. Maybe a speaker idk. I've said in previous posts that Bitsy is an old VHS tape and Lanino and Elnina are just on there for another frame of reference. They're the weather channel, I doubt there's any argument about that.

Finally, the shop keep. V.C. Ramsey, aka Grampa Ramsey. He's based on a VCR player and the nursery rhyme, "Baa Baa Black Sheep". Ramsey is the shop keep connected to Bitsy, and they used to be old friends before you know, the whole mystery man stuff went down. The VCR details may be subtle, but I still like Ramsey's design. I could listen to his stories for hours.

the whole "family"

I made Rook's mom in the sims because I was bored and wanted to see what she'd look like. Gorgeous, as it turns out!! Which isn't surprising given her son is the most beautiful man of all time. Rook doesn't even know her name or anything about her, and has never met her, since she handed him off to Alistair at the first chance she got. Rook has no interest in meeting her because of that, plus the fact that in his mind, all birth/legal family is awful and fucked. As far as he's concerned, he doesn't have a mother.
