okay but what if... a different ofmd s2
I tried several times to make a less tl;dr version of this post, but it's not happening. BEHOLD: a season I just like better. It fixes things that I personally didn't like (and I have a strong Ed and Izzy bias). I wanted to do a few major things:
Keep 2x01-2x03, because I love them so damn much. this unfortunately sets the stakes *really high* for the rest of the season, so...
Rework the characters that canon s2 introduced, to be able to focus more tightly on the Revenge's response to the 2x01-2x03 atom bomb.
Give Ed and Stede more focused arcs (individually and as a couple). Ed and Stede were, emotionally, at completely opposite poles in 2x01-2x03, and in canon I think they didn't connect much after that. So in my version, they'll do basic work to understand why their s1 meet-cute failed and how they can move on to having a real relationship.
Address Ed's very vividly depicted violence from 2x01-2x02. I found the amends depicted in canon somewhere between "unsatisfying" and "horrifying." Jesus did I need to fuck around with that!
the three major acts in the season:
ACT 1 (2x01-2x03) – Trauma! These episodes remain largely the same as in canon.
ACT 2 (2x04-2x06) – Recovery I've edited these episodes so Ed + Stede are entirely separated from Izzy + the Crew. This gives the OTP space to work on themselves and their relationship. Likewise, Izzy has space away from Ed to go through his arc of self-discovery and consider if he wants to reconcile with Ed. Izzy and the Crew all get a chance to recover from The Trauma on their own, together as a community. ACT 3 (2x07-2x08) – Reconciliation Act 2 has given everybody time to process Act 1 and how they might come out of it as better versions of themselves and a stronger community. Now the OTP and the Crew reintegrate and, in the 2x08 climax, prove all their work has been worth it by fighting together against an external menace. (It's Hornigold. It's got to be Hornigold. This is so obvious to me.)
* * * THE CHARACTERS:
Each crew member is talented brilliant incredible showstopping spectacular, but in the interest of brevity, the characters in the imaginary episodes are going to be:
Ed and Stede → The OTP – Ed and Stede as a couple. Color-coded red so you can follow their arc.
Izzy
The Crew, who begin in Act 1 as three separate crews: → the Castaways (everybody Ed marooned/tossed overboard at the end of s1) → the Breakup Boat (everybody from canon s2 on the Revenge with Truly Insane Ed → the Girls (introduced below)
THE BOATS:
Most episodes are going to have two plots running, taking place on two ships:
The Revenge
The Pearl Diver (again, below)
Last terminology note: I'm going to be comparing "canon episodes" vs. "imaginary episodes" or "new episodes" a bunch.
Ready? Alright, let's kick it.
* * *
ACT 1 – 2x01-2x03 – TRAUMAAA
Ed + the Breakup Boat: The action on the Revenge remains basically the same, with the torture and the murder-suicides and all the crimes. Stede + the Castaways: I'd cut the Republic of Pirates in 2x01. Instead, I'd start with everyone at sea on the ship that rescued them (which also creates an atmosphere of everyone still being trapped by the awful shit that happened in 1x10). What ship? I think introducing Zheng the historical pirate is a really cool idea, but I also think it's one idea too many. Zheng's objectively cooler and more successful ship is always, implausibly, overshadowed by the lovable misfits on the Revenge, since the Revenge is the workplace that the show is about. This is annoying to me (and probably Zheng). Instead I'd make the rescue ship one of equal goofiness: Mary and Anne's ship. I'll call it the Pearl Diver, just because I can. We can lift the formula from Ed's ship in s1:
s1: gay men // s2: lesbians!
s1 power couple on the ship is Ed+Izzy // s2 is Mary/Anne
s1 crew members who later join Revenge are The Boys, Fang+Ivan // s2 will have the Girls, a surgeon and her competent sailor girlfriend. one of them is a trans woman, I said so
the set is just the Revenge with different props on, lol
Okay, that's our lesbian ship set up. It'll last five episodes and be a very easy foil for the Revenge. Stede: His 2x01-2x02 bit seemed to be "I love Ed, I'll get back to him no matter." I'd push that harder. New s2 will open with Stede as a brave romantic adventurer sallying forth into true love (the same way he was a brave romantic adventurer sallying forth into piracy in s1). So: "I love Ed, I'll get back to him no matter, and the force of our newfound love will be what straightens this all out." The OTP: Ed and Stede are both hopeless romantics, of course, but they're coming at it from opposing genres. Ed thinks he's the doomed villain in a big-R Romantic novel. Stede thinks he's the little-r romantic hero in a bodice-ripper. Their job in new s2 is to shift ideas of self & genre to meet somewhere in the middle.
ACT 2 – 2x04-2x06 – RECOVERY
I think a lot of what s2 tried in mid-season succeeded, but it didn't really add up to anything. In order to advance Ed and Stede's arc(s), I'd isolate them from the Crew. This gives everyone space to start clearing up the Act 1 wreckage.
(quick 2x03 note:) The major change I'd make here here would be moving the Breakup Boat crew off of the Revenge sometime mid-episode so they can recuperate on the Pearl Diver instead. They get to leave the trauma boat, which gives them and us the audience some breathing room as we transition out of the murder-suicide portion of the season. In the Pearl's infirmary they meet the Girls – surgeon and girlfriend – and reunite with the Castaways. There's a palpable sense of each group feeling isolated from the others.
2x04 – really intense cleanup
Time skip: The Breakup Boat crew have been declared physically recovered enough to start repairing the Revenge (and therefore prepared to grit their teeth and return to the scene of their trauma). The Castaways offer to help; the Girls come along in solidarity with their new friends. The Revenge: (this is also 2x04 in canon) Izzy never left the wrecked ship, is doing Bad. The three separate crews do ship repairs, but then come together as one Crew to declare Izzy their unicorn.
The Pearl Diver: (this story has no equivalent in canon)
Ed: never leaves the Pearl's infirmary, is doing Bad. He's trying to come to grips with the fact that he did all that shit, the kind that his dad and Hornigold used to. Stede: is focused on telling Ed about their true love rather than trying to understand how awful Ed feels, to the point that he's telling his newfound love~ story super loudly to avoid talking about Ed's pain.
The OTP: They have a moment where they stop talking past each other.
Ed hears Stede when he says that he really does love Ed. (Ed doesn't necessarily believe it, but he's willing to listen.)
Stede hears Ed when Ed says he feels trapped worse than ever (though he's weirded out Ed thinks he's a doomed villain). (Stede, our favorite Ed stan, literally doesn't care what Ed did except as far as how Ed feels about it.)
2x05 – letting loose
Time skip! Again, everyone looks slightly less haggard. The Revenge: (this is 2x06 in canon; I've moved it to 2x05) The Crew: have Calypso's birthday, paid for with the treasure they wouldn't throw overboard in 2x01 because it's their treasure and not Ed's, ffs. Joyful, queer, "we're surviving, we're getting through this together." Izzy+Ed: I'm aiming to untangle the shitty parts of their codependency and eliminate Ed's outright domestic abuse. I read canon s2 as Izzy fully untangling himself from Ed and then presenting Ed as a gift to Stede, and I did not like that for anyone. I'm aiming to conclude new s2 with Izzy+Ed acknowledging how bad it was at the end (with a little more emotional insight than they might have been able to do in s1 – maybe this huge event in their lives leads to self-reflection and growth!) and how they could move forward maybe as very complicated friends. Izzy's going to be taking the lead on this one, because the codependency very much ended in Ed doing violence to him. He gets to decide what the fuck happens. So: Izzy: is finally somewhere without Ed, first time in 30 years. Now that he's been unicorn'd (feels supported), he has room to unwind and start discovering what he might like to do. So he does drag. And also sings about his complicated feelings for Ed, come on, Izzy has love for him. In new s2, Izzy still gets to bloom, but he remains closer in personality to his grumpy cunty s1 self, not quite consciously understanding how he's changing. The Pearl Diver: (this is 2x04 in canon; I've moved it to 2x05) The OTP: have the bonkers Mary/Anne dinner party (their f/f co-captain counterparts). They do their awkward exes bit. In canon s2, they see Mary/Anne as "these guys are so weird, wtf"; in new s2, they're more like "these guys are so weird, omg. remember how weird we were last year? that was so fucking great." Conclusions:
Ed and Stede have more in common than they'd feared (since, like, 1x10)
They see they can be dramatic assholes in love like these bitches and that's great.
But also: maybe they need to be less self-centered than "burn down your ship which is your entire livelihood without considering that this might kill your crew." Maybe Mary/Anne rowing off cackling in a boat together (to, say, China) isn't the W they thought it was.
also also: caught up in the adrenaline of understanding they're mad lads, Ed/Stede do the impulsive "taking it too fast" (canon: 2x06) and BONE.
Lastly: The OTP ask to reboard the Revenge now that there's no Pearl Diver, mentioning hopefully that they've learned a lesson. The Crew are not convinced. They maroon Ed/Stede on land at close of ep.
2x06 – restucturing
The Revenge: (this plot is similar to Izzy+Stede's story in canon's 2x05)
Haven't thought of a frame story I like here, honestly. But the point of the episode is that Izzy helps Crew to be better pirates. This does two things:
Izzy's getting a chance to choose to manage people for himself, rather than as Ed's minder or Ed's goon.
Crew are getting competent advice from someone who genuinely gives a shit (Stede or Ed do not fit the bill). This allows them to keep running things in a fairly democratic structure where they do make decisions based on actually, for real, Talking Things Through.
Crew: consider what they're going to do about Ed and Stede – who maybe have had time to sort themselves out a bit? – replete with silly company restructuring metaphors.
Izzy: probably does shirtless swordplay considers how he wants to deal with Ed. Talking to Crew he decides that he, too, can try airing grievances with Ed in workplace metaphors. (It doesn't take much to convince him. Izzy will always love being a professional.)
On Land: (this episode has no equivalent in canon)
The OTP: in true OFMD style, they attend a modern couples retreat that has 18th c trappings. It is run by the straightest dude ever (Steve Carell levels of Kinsey 1 in 18th c khakis).
This dude is obnoxious, but he does remind them to strike a balance between demonstrating their love by talking through their needs (e.g. 2x04 infirmary, 2x05 dinner party) and by taking action (which will always be bonkers for them, like 1x09 act of grace, 2x05 impulsive boning). I'm thinking of it like: Ed/Stede realize they're whim-prone (as in canon 2x04), and also there's this tool nearby.
They're like, hey, actually I really love you, and make out sappily for a while then wonder, bemusedly, why they didn't do that before fucking a bunch. ("but the fucking was still good?" "oh yeah mate, we should definitely always be fucking")
Unfortunately: The retreat ends abruptly when they spot pirate hunters closing in on the B&B and have to make a run for it.
ACT 3 – 2x07-2x08 – RECONCILIATION
I really couldn't tell what canon was going for at season's end, starting from about "Stede kills Lowe" at the end of 2x06. I found a lot of it contradictory and kind of ass-pull-y. Major divergences to follow.
2x07 – reintegration
(this episode is similar to canon episode 2x05)
The Revenge: Having spent 2x06 thinking about what they want to do next, the Crew decide they can take on Stede + Ed on their flight from pirate hunters. Everyone's back on the boat. I'd probably make the frame story here something silly and light-hearted like the Cursed Red Suit. Everyone can mingle in groups that are different from the ones they started out in during Act 1 – permutations of people from the three distinct crews, Stede and Izzy and Ed thrown together with people they haven't seen in a while. These different groups can brainstorm deeply stupid solutions to this probably fake problem. I'd probably make the frame story here something silly and light-hearted like The Cursed Red Suit. Everybody can mingle in different groups and brainstorm deeply stupid solutions to this probably fake problem. Ed/Stede: Crucially, Stede and Ed aren't together in any of these groups. They separate and see everyone and understand that they're not, actually, in charge of Crew anymore. It's weird but okay. They both have to legitimately listen like they've been practicing all season. Ed doesn't apologize but he at least doesn't fuck with anyone, so that's... fine. Izzy+Ed: They haven't seen each other since the murder-suicide farrago in 2x02.
Izzy: "You can do the big gestures but you're a shit captain, Ed. You can't be there on the everyday stuff." (with subtext: you need to give a shit about me all the time, not just when I can be convenient to you.) It's not any kind of forgiveness, and Ed can't offer an apology because he still doesn't understand them. But this is Izzy saying he'll talk to Ed (with more pushback than canon's 2x06 "oh look it's scowly face").
Lastly: This has been a monster of the week ep where the first five minutes were like, there's a problem which will affect us in the future! and then the middle of the episode is, but it's not affecting us right now so let's do interpersonal stuff! Sadly, whoever they dump the Suit on at the end of the episode reminds them the problem still exists: the pirate hunters are worse than they thought. Hornigold is on their trail.
2x08 – IT'S REAL PERSONAL
(this episode has no equivalent in canon.) And here we reach the locus of all my frustrations!
Nose Guy doesn't exist in new s2, so we don't need to blow up the Republic with no foreshadowing as in canon 2x08
Zheng's awesome fleet doesn't exist in new s2. The foreshadowing that she was planning something incredible doesn't have to come to nothing like it did in canon 2x08, when her fleet also blew up with no foreshadowing. (what was that badass montage from canon 2x02 of her crew portaging ships thru the jungle even for ;_;)
Canon s2's sudden decision to make the stakes of the entire season "oh, uh, everyone wants to destroy piracy?" and completely ignore all the interpersonal problems set up in Act 1 – that doesn't happen!
Probably nothing in imaginary s2 will be as intense as 2x01-2x03 were. But new 2x08 will be a claustrophobic, high-pressure situation where everyone will have the resolutions they made in Act 2 tested, in a situation as dangerous as the worst of Act 1.
HERE WE GOOOOO Cold open on the Revenge:
A scene that looks about as bad as Ed's storm in 2x02: Izzy is dead from a headshot, Crew are panicking, Stede is alone and can only shout to Ed that he loves him from far away.
Ed is kitted out as Blackbeard at his worst – makeup and all – and seems ready to, again, blow the whole ship up. Viewer is perhaps worried that Ed has, again, lost it. We balance on the precipice!!
TITLE CARD!
Chronological start of ep:
Wind back the action!
Time skip from 2x07: The Revenge has been running from Hornigold for weeks, hiding themselves in ever smaller spaces as they get jumpier and jumpier about the pursuit. (Think on deck → main cabin → galley → the secret fucking deathbed under the galley.)
Ed, off by himself, is beside himself at the thought of meeting Hornigold for real once more. He failed to kill him all those years ago – what must he do now to solve the problem for good?
Intercut with Hornigold's ship:
Hornigold is chasing them, being a dick in his sumptious cabin. It's light on the action, heavy on letting us know who he is.
He's cruel and violent, like Act 1 Ed, except (a) he's less concerned about covering up his awfulness with charm and (b) he's perfectly open about "I hate this guy I used to own and I want to kill him" (about Ed) in contrast to Act 1 Ed not being able to say anything of the sort about Stede or Izzy.
We already know what kind of evil shit Hornigold used to pull because mostly-dead Ed told us in 2x03, so, you know, good enough.
Ed has to kill himself and also his dad again, lol, we get it
Climactic stuff on the Revenge!
Hornigold catches up to them; there's some fighting or whatever; it leads us up to the cold open. But then it pushes through to: it was all a fuckery!!
(do not ASK me what kind of fuckery. they are hard to write, they are both deeply psychological and incredibly goofy. This is just an outline of a fake season LEAVE ME ALONE)
Ed was a distraction, acting how Hornigold expected him to act! It works: Stede kills Hornigold!
The OTP: The murder addresses how each wants to deal with violence in their respective genres:
Ed, when he did patricide on behalf of someone he loved (mum) got caught up the cycle of dreadful murder and trauma he wanted to escape. And now he sees that he can – he's not the doomed Romantic villain!
Stede, in doing step-patricide on behalf of someone he loves (Ed), commits in a real way to ruthlessly murdering bullies. He's a swashbuckler! He definitely likes it! Finally, he's found a way to express romantic love in a grounded* way. (*by OFMD standards.)
It's a deranged pirate sitcom way of turning their tentative courtship into a healthy adult relationship.
Ed + Izzy:
During the fuckery: Izzy is playing murdered-by-Ed, so he's "dead" on deck (vulnerable) amidst the chaos.
Ed throws himself over Izzy to save him from getting shot.
This doesn't erase all the shitty things Ed did! It's a big gesture instead of an everyday thing, just like Izzy was complaining about! But it's definitely an indicator that Ed would prefer not to drive Izzy to suicide and Ed does, even, ask if Izzy's okay afterwards, checking him over, before someone else points out that Ed got shot.
Lastly:
With final approval from Izzy – after a lengthy pause where Izzy looks at Edward panting and bleeding on the deck – the Crew decide to journey forth to find Super Good Medicine to save Ed.
THERE ARE HINTS THAT s3 MIGHT SHOW US:
Blackbeard's historic raid on Charleston (who is playing Blackbeard at that point? who knows!)
Ed and Izzy working on being weird-ass friends again, but without so much murder-suicide
Stede and Ed finally talking about how they want to spend their life together: what's between retirement and piracy?
This is all pretty okay because new s2 ends in a hopeful place where nobody FUCKING DIED jfc where everyone's grown a bit but, as always, still has room to grow more.
the end!

pll rewatch 2x04
The Great Gatsby billboard staring at them from above after they get an A text!! Conveniently in this sketchy location for the girls to maybe wonder if there’s a camera in that eye. Okay, maybe they didn’t wonder, but I sure did
Everyone did a solo session with Dr. Sullivan before Hanna does this episode, hmm. Emily might’ve talked about moving to Texas, Aria about her parents cheating or blustering on about something else, but I bet Spencer showed up, brought her homework, and said nothing.
When her mom stops her in school, Aria immediately assumes Ella wants feedback on her teaching. I’m starting to enjoy when Aria is like this to her mom because my opinion of Ella as a parent has sunk compared to my memory of her.
When Caleb makes fun of Lucas’s room being filled with toys, Hanna immediately defends them as collectibles. Hanna probably does get it, given her own 1001 handbags and shoes.
Wren sucks more every time he shows up, he is passing out drugs to his ex-fiance and should lose his medical license.
Sullivan: “I’ve talked with a lot of young people about loss” Maybe Sullivan specializes in teenagers, with a focus on grief. Give the Liars’ parents a half-point for finding a relevant therapist.
Hanna is guarded about saying that a combination of guilt, anger, and fear is what she feels about Ali - so far, the girls haven’t really discussed with each other the experience of being friends with Ali. They gesture to it, like with Spencer pointing out Emily’s easy acquiescence to Ali, but they do not expose their own vulnerability in depth to each other
And I think Hanna would be the least likely to do so with the others
Aria is forced to endure sports and I am forced to endure too many shots of shirtless dudes (in a Philly November? Wear a a shirt!)
At least Aria gets rewarded with getting to ogle Jason. That man’s biceps are gigantic and I did not recall this about Jason
Omg there’s more Emily/Samara scenes at swimming meets. RIP Paige hope you’re oblivious to this
Doubt she is, because Pam Fields is yelling DANBY all over the stands and you know Nick McCullers is going “see if you got anchor you would’ve gotten a guaranteed offer too and not mere interest”.
Nick McCullers exposing the letter lie after doing some digging would’ve been so funny and so bad and both Paige and Emily would have wanted to melt off the face of the planet
Spencer wishes she could sleep over at Aria’s :( Last time she wanted Emily to stay over. Someone be a nice non-threatening sleepover buddy for Spence already :(
Pam is extremely charmed by Samara, who talks about the challenges of glue guns and the delights of crafting (with her mom). Samara gives good parent.
Generally speaking I spent very little time contemplating Samara back in the day, but I appreciate the way she functions in the context of Emily and Pam’s mending relationship
Samara does all do this before a second date though, which, wild. Wild as well is Emily telling her the letter is fake. The unearned guilt must be eating at her.
So, Hanna in 2x04. It is specifically helping Lucas with his Danielle date and him thanking her that drives her back to Sullivan’s office. With every Liar, there’s the damage that Alison does to the girl and there’s the girl’s complicity in Alison’s cruelty, and somehow it is Lucas saying he no longer sees the latter in Hanna that drives Hanna to fully reject the former. As I said above, I don’t think any of the other liars have gotten as far as Hanna does this episode in extricating Alison from herself. Hanna’s the only liar whose present version we’ve seen interact with Alison so far, and there’s no regression to her flashback behaviour.
All of the liars felt chosen by Alison, and all of them had an angle Alison was working. The way Alison comes at Emily and Hanna, I think, is that both girls are experiencing adolescence as their bodies betraying them. But where I don’t think Emily’s personality was wildly different pre-Alison, for Hanna I always get stuck on Mona’s anecdote of Hanna as a child bowing after a successful backflip, even when covered in vomit. A kid happy to get attention, fond of some showmanship, in contrast to the more muted one in the flashbacks. That isn’t all Alison - female adolescence in general gets some credit - but it’s hard to separate it from Alison.
Hanna’s imaginary Alison suggests Hanna is scared of the liars moving on from her. I don’t think this is (as of yet) a fear we’ve seen any of the others express, and it’s a fear that has no basis in the current liar dynamics, so that’s interesting. I do read Hanna as the most guarded in S1 about the gang getting back together. I like that her conclusion here is that this has nothing to do with the liars or Alison (or Ashley, or Caleb, or Mona, or god forbid her dad), that she has herself and always will. Am reminded of a different blonde teenager who replied to “Take all that away...and what's left?” with “Me.”
I thought she was wearing a robe when Lucas came by her house in the morning and I was so thrown that she was wearing the same outfit at Sullivan’s till I realized it was a regular top
Why is Aria so pissy about Mike not playing basketball? The audience knows it’s bad vibes but girl, your parents pay zero attention to what y’all do after school, that’s how you have so many hours to waste in Fitz’s apartment or hang out with your friends you are banned from seeing. Do you want to rock this boat.
Emily wants to call Garrett when they all shadow Melissa and Wren. I STG Emily it worked out with Toby but not all sketchy-seeming men are worth your trust. Glad Aria is a “No” on calling Garrett
As the four liars approach the abandoned barn (1) Emily would like take a photo, to prove to the cops they are honest kids (2) Hanna would settle for not getting murdered (3) Aria wonders if Ian has a gun, because “he’s a bad guy” (4) Spencer is laser-focused on Melissa
Yeah, that tracks.
Best A message of the episode: NOSY BITCHES DIE, painted in red across the wall in Sullivan's office

All Eyes Lead to the Truth | Season Two Masterpost
That's a wrap on season two! From Flukeman to Albert Hosteen, we explored 25 of the characters that helped make season two of The X-Files so iconic!
Here's a look into all the characters we've met so far!
2x01 | Little Green Men - Senator Richard Matheson (@monikafilefan)
Soon, secrets will snowball. Good people will suffer. Even senators will lose much more than their seats.
2x02 | The Host - Flukeman (@gaycrouton)
Fluke.
2x03 | Blood - Sheriff Spencer (@admiralty-xfd)
Based on the fact that there was simply no reasonable, logical explanation the man would have to do something like this, Spencer knew he could only turn towards the illogical – and that happened to be the X-Files.
2x04 | Sleepless - Salvatore Matola (@fridaysat9)
He could hear their screams, just like every night when he laid down in his bed and stared at the ceiling until the sun came up.
2x05 | Duane Barry - Duane Barry (@gaycrouton)
Someone had his implant. Someone… a woman in Georgetown.
2x06 | Ascension - Dr. Takeo Ishimaru (@admiralty-xfd)
He misses the quiet. Now it seems all he hears is drilling and beeping and yes, sometimes screaming.
2x07 | 3 - Kristen Killar (@fridaysat9)
There’s an emptiness inside her that needs to be satiated with blood… or something else.
2x08 | One Breath - Melissa Scully (@monikafilefan)
Melissa reaches out to gently smooth a stray tendril tangled within one of the many strips of tape stuck to Dana’s porcelain skin. The brittle hair snaps in two, and Melissa swears she can feel a piece of her heart snapping right along with it.
2x09 | Firewalker - Dr. Daniel Trepkos (@admiralty-xfd)
Albert Einstein was known for changing the world, he would say to Jessie if he could. Daniel Trepkos would only be known for destroying it.
2x10 | Red Museum - Old Man (@fridaysat9)
He may have been the only person in town who was making such a connection, but maybe these FBI agents had open minds and might consider it. Something had gone wrong in this sleepy little town and no one, not the townspeople or the sheriff, was doing a goddamn thing to fix it.
2x11 | Excelsis Dei - Dorothy (@monikafilefan)
If Leo tells these nice people that orderly Gung gives them special pills he makes to help them feel alive again, then maybe Gung will get in trouble. Maybe he won’t be able to free any of them from the confines of their minds like this anymore.
2x12 | Aubrey - Danny Valladeo (@gaycrouton)
Working in the lab felt like helping them put together a puzzle while blindfolded. The catch was, you never got to see the end picture until their case reports were finalized, and even then, the final image was abstract beyond recognition.
2x13 | Irresistible - Dr. Karen Kosseff (@fridaysat9)
In all her years working as a therapist for the FBI, Karen had learned that partnerships, be they successful or not, were integral in how an agent functioned, both inside and out of work. An open and trusting partnership could make an agent feel secure and safe, leading them to a successful career and a well balanced life. Without trust, accidents happened, careers ended, and lives could be lost.
2x14 | Die Hand Die Verletzt - Andrea (@monikafilefan)
There’s a presence here, they say. A consistent darkness that lingers like the gray haze coating Milford New Hampshire before sunrise. It’s an old story, whispered about in covert corners of community potlucks and PTA meetings.
2x15 | Fresh Bones - Chester Bonaparte (@gaycrouton)
In voodoo, it’s believed that the dead will come back again, that we should not be afraid of death.
2x16 | Colony - Bill Mulder (@admiralty-xfd)
Fox’s eyes glint with the sparkle of curiosity Bill still remembers from when he was a boy; way back when they watched their first episode of Star Trek together. Back before he knew he wasn’t his boy.
2x17 | End Game - Alien Bounty Hunter (@monikafilefan)
There is an extraterrestrial race war rising within his world: a rebellion in the making. A faction of clones and shapeshifters rallying against the oil that made them. Fools, all them. Hybridization cannot be tolerated. Purity of the alien race must be maintained.
2x18 | Fearful Symmetry - Sophie (@gaycrouton)
Willa not understand. Sophie scared. Baby go flying light.
2x19 | Død Kalm - Captain Peter Barclay (@admiralty-xfd)
He doesn’t know how or why but he knows what’s happening, like a road map for his mortality is written on his insides. He can see the end, and it’s close.
2x20 | Humbug - Mr. Nutt (@fridaysat9)
He didn’t need a suit and a hideous tie to make him matter. He wasn’t a caricature of a man, all handsome features, strapping physique, and perfectly placed sarcastic remarks. No siree.
2x21 | The Calusari - Golda (@gaycrouton)
Golda knew it was a matter of time before the Devil caught up to her. She’d looked into his eyes.
He knows her now.
2x22 | F. Emasculata - U.S. Marshal Deke Tapia (@admiralty-xfd)
Tapia grimaces. “You mean… ew.”
“Yeah," Mulder replies. "Ew.”
2x23 | Soft Light - Detective Kelly Ryan (@fridaysat9)
She tried to file everything away– the questions they asked, the things that seemed important to them, the way that they seemed to be able to converse without words.
Watching them made her feel like a novice, but at the same time, made her excited for her future as a detective.
2x24 | Our Town - Jess Harold (@monikafilefan)

Jess Watches // Wed 16 Oct // Day 383 Synopses & Favourite Scenes & Poll
Star Trek: Prodigy 2x04 Temporal Mechanics 101
Although separated by decades, the Infinity and the Voyager crews band together to save Gwyn's life. A mysterious messenger reaches out to Gwyn.
IMDb: Erin Macdonald, who plays Dr. Erin in the Temporal Mechanics 101 instruction guide Dal us watching, is functionally playing herself as she is the science advisor for all modern Star Trek.
Call the Midwife (with mum) 9x04
Nonnatus House welcomes four male junior doctors to live and work among the midwives while Fred tries to help a sick man whose home is to be demolished.
No offense to pigeon man, but why build up the introduction of male doctors only to barely feature them and then have them leave after one episode? Not necessarily a complaint as the show doesn't really need them anyway.
Derry Girls (rw with mum) 3x04 The Haunting
James's driving skills are put to the test as the gang set off in a van full of hooch and high hopes to an adult-free house in Donegal. The Quinns visit a local psychic in the hope of making contact with a much-loved family spirit.
To all the lesbian farmers in my area, I am available.
Burn Notice (rw with L) 1x09 Hard Bargain
A house-sitter's fiancée has been kidnapped, and Sam guilts Michael into a rescue while he's negotiating with a D.C. bureaucrat to stop the burn notice.
IMDb: While chasing Lucio after the mall scene, Michael is seen being hit by a car. This resulted in a real injury for actor Jeffrey Donovan.
Also, IMDb: Keen viewers will notice a sharp cut after Sam says "Thanks Mike. It's just Photoshop." This is because no matter how many times they tried to keep the scene going after that line, Jeffrey Donovan could not help but lose himself laughing at how Bruce Campbell delivered it. Eventually they just picked the scene up from after the line.

[initial reactions] Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 2x04 - Among the Lotus Eaters
I don't know what it is about this episode but this is the episode that' really made me feel.
I already liked SNW but for some reason, I've felt a distance towards the show and characters that I can't really explain. I like all the characters, particularly Uhura, La'an, and Una but it feels like there's a remove?
Like a stretchy fabric between myself and the characters that's all on me, intellectually, I knew I liked the show! I love the look but emotionally it hadn't touched me, again it's totally on me. I've been wrestling with it since I watched all seasons of SNW.
But this episode? Somehow it breached the barriers and I felt it.
Maybe because SNW tackling one of the themes I've always loved -- identity. Especially the amnesia trope, who are you in the dark, or in this case, who are you if they remove all your memories?
Pike is still a good man with a good heart, and Dr. M'Benga is a healer despite what he had to do during the war. La'an, unfortunately, got the short shrift since she spent most of the time recuperating but, also at heart, a good person. A loyal person and a damned good security chief.
And Lieutenant Erica Ortegas is a damned great pilot.
Also, a starship navigating through an asteroid field? Always a favorite for me -- like c'mon there's a reason why I adored the asteroid/nebula scene in Picard S3!
Plus, this is another show that has a Starfleet ship throwing asteroids around!
(Not to mention the Chateau Picard wine on the dinner date with Captain Wynonna Earp and Pike!)

Rambling thoughts while rewatching Lone Star ep 4x11 – Double Trouble (Finishing Edging the Bet made it so that I am just now getting to a rewatch of the episode (only watched it live))
The pregnancy & dropping out were my two biggest suspicions for Wyatt’s news
Joining the FD was a little farther on my list – but I didn’t expect to see three announcements (although technically – you could combine the dropping out & FD thing together)
So how are along is she?
When did he decide to drop out of school? When were these midterms? Did he complete his first semester then, but quit ½ way through the 2nd?
Doesn’t TK remember hearing about Mateo’s cousin? He was there for the first time Mateo mentioned Marvin
So – he came from the side of the wall – not the door to the bunk room? – that blocking just seemed like a weird choice.
Someone suggested taking shots anytime Mateo or Marvin say “cuz” = 8 shots in like 2 minutes (3 for Mateo & 5 for Marvin)
The “I’d like to teach the world to sing” reminds me of the kid songs videos – it was on the “Teach the world to sing” (we had it on VHS – because I am old).
“I would really suggest that you try to calm down.” Carlos Reyes – to a woman that should be dead
Carlos thinking – “Thank fuck, you guys finally got here for this woman that should be dead, but is yelling at me about the demon spawn children.”
I am not a fan of going to the Dr. either lady
I want an orange tree in my back yard. Too bad it wouldn’t hold up well here.
That is a lot of kids balls/toys
Carlos “dad joke” Reyes
Winston Churchill gave a lot of good speeches – none of them are ones that I would think to watch to get ideas for my child’s wedding toast (and I am a history nerd like Owen) – but it does make sense for him – if he ever gets a pet that he gets to name – that is what I would guess that he would name them.
I am a fan of Tommy in her gym clothes.
This scene is probably the most I have EVER related to Judd. The self-doubt/loathing is so hard to look/see past. At least he has Tommy & Grace.
What does Judd even have in his hand in the firehouse kitchen scene that was alphabetized
“As long as these chimes don’t go off” give “Unless the bells go off” vibes – Owen talking to Gwyn in 2x04 (old) firehouse kitchen scene.
That Mateo is into pokemon – not surprising – BUT – where did all his cards come from? Did he rebuild his collection once he moved in with Owen or was his collection at the firehouse, miraculously saving it?
$24,100 is a lot of fucking money.
If I had been asking my husband to fix something for 4 years – I would have already figured out how to fix it. That is a long fucking time man.
I like clipboard Marj – but I am ready for firefighter Marj to come back
If you have an uninsured porshe (at least in the US) – you are an idiot. Or any high dollar car.
If he got $900 for the pokemon card, and $24,100 from Nancy – how is he tapped now? Wouldn’t it be that he was already tapped?
Also – That explains why he still lives with Owen
Apparently Mateo decided to do the “take a shot for each time Mateo or Marvin say cuz” game
I think that the sitcom thing fits Mateo’s character – but would have been weird for anyone else – with the exception of maybe Owen.
So, did Marvin keep his hair that pink color to keep a guilt trip on Mateo – since he used it to cover for him in the first place?
Also – these are some old looking 13-year-olds.
How did Mateo not know he was a DREAMER until he was 17?
So setting a school on fire made Mateo want to be a firefighter? I can buy that, makes a lot of sense – I like getting the whys of their job choices on these shows.
Who did he move to Texas with at 16? But still not know he was a DREAMER until he was 17?
He lived with his aunt & uncle from 6-16, then ?? from 16- at least adulthood?
Turpentine smells so bad
Did Mateo take over his cousins love of scientific facts?
Who cares about those other milk customers when there is french toast on the table?
I can’t with the mustache
This is the most Buck that TK has ever been. Accepting the french toast, then his ‘boss/partner’ saying ‘no’, then him saying the same, only sad.
“He might get shanked with a toothbrush.”
Milkman Judd just keeps eating his french toast
Guess it is good to have a paramedic in the family

Now you've got me excited for S5. I'm used to some of the expected sexism crap from older shows (mostly from old Trek), though the Callahan and Captain Sherman scene wasn't great. Do you remember if there's anymore scenes like that? I'd rather avoid those.
I got lucky, I didn't even know there was supposed to be a laugh track to the episodes, so I guess I found the trackless ones in my search. Think I definitely prefer it without them too
yah theres a couple rough episodes like that, lemme send the list just so you have it in case it gets old. i cant remember if there are many more like that one, but i know margaret gets a few really rough episodes (same in the movie so heads up if you decide to watch that) the ones with double stars are particularly important/good
oh hell yah, you hit the jackpot. the laugh track is fine but it takes so much away from important moments, glad you found the non-laugh track version first!

M*A*S*H - Viewguide, S2
Are you interested in the long-running anti-war situation tragicomedy M*A*S*H (1972-1983), but there are simply so many asterisks and so many episodes?
Well I can’t help you with the asterisks, but nor can I help myself: I started watching all 11 seasons of M*A*S*H, and bringing back for you my viewing selections, chosen for The Qualities.
— — —
I can tell I’ve really accessed the elder millennial (& elder) demographic with my M*A*S*H posting (doing...numbers? hullo!) by, above all, the 80% consistency rating of those reblogging it also adding tags. My people. We gotta find things later.
Season 2! Absolutely, get in here, loved this one: to bits. I did swing around the order again this time, primarily to pace the Hawkeye runs himself ragged episodes—too much of that at once might cause damage, nearly did me. I am kidding: I did not avoid this. Hi broken, I'm Dad!
M*A*S*H - Season 2 Recommended sequence
2x01 ‘Divided We Stand’ - A reintroduction to the 4077th in our second season together through the psychiatric officer sent to investigate whether they’ve all gone mad out there and should be broken up. Spoiler alert: of course, and of course not.
2x02 ‘5 O’Clock Charlie’ - Every day at 5 o’clock, a North Korean pilot flies overhead and tries* to bomb the nearby ammunition dump (*tries). Just chock-a-block with bits. Fun fact: Alda’s foppy infantry drag routine probably the moment I truly fell in love with him—“That’s about it.” This too would have made a wonderful season opener honestly, but we just get two!
2x04 ‘For the Good of the Outfit’ - And now we sit down with a thump: Hawkeye & Trapper try to get the American military to take responsibility for shelling a peaceful Korean village, and learn that the Army, surprise, has no whistleblower protection. No B-plot, we’re just doing THIS.
2x05 ‘Dr. Pierce and Mr. Hyde’ - In this hurt/comfort but we nearly forgot part of it fanfiction, Hawkeye Pierce stays awake doing surgery for…possibly 48 hours if I've calculated this right, but then after that another shift, and another…oh jesus. He stays awake for something like three days, all but spare minutes of it pulling bits of metal out of chest wounds, it breaks something in him, and then for the next night & day more he continues to sleeplessly wander the camp spooking and unnerving people like an irreverent broken ghost. This is probably the best episode I’ve seen yet. Every time you hear the sound of choppers, and he just looks up from the shadowed caverns of his eyes… HUGE ohh honey! episode, and also like, ..fuck. Fuucking fuck. “Dear Harry, Who’s responsible?” I could lovingly detail every single thing that happens in this, very up to and including the warm circumstances of the little closing scene, which I ache over.
2x09 ‘Dear Dad…Three’ - That’s WRITE, it’s another letter writing episode, with a number of differently toned scenes strung together with pretty impressive balance. A tense surgery, a goofy home video that accidentally makes everyone verklempt, a perfectly absurdist staff meeting, and meanwhile: The Gang Solves Racism! Well, corrects a racist. Involves ridiculous antics don’t even worry. Ginger has the funniest part and thank god.
2x10 ‘The Sniper’ - There’s a sniper. This is a situation where this episode is so well written and edited, just sterling 25 minute story construction, that I’ve deemed it too good to be sunk by its one too many sexual assault jokes. I mean kinda makes it even more of a peak early season M*A*S*H episode, if you think about it.
2x12 ‘The Incubator’ - One of my favorites of this season to be honest! An eventual sort of Milo Minderbinder riff on byzantine and corrupt Army supply chains, in which Trapper & Hawkeye wear their dress uniforms and at one point stand in as investigative journalists asking tough questions at a military press conference—hot.
2x13 'Deal Me Out' - A wonderfully pitched antics ep, especially memorable for the deep bank of recurring guest players: Sidney Freedman, Sam Pak, and even Colonel Flagg. I have since started playing poker and it is remarkable how many elements of this exact game have already occurred. Minus the surgery.
2x11 ‘Carry On, Hawkeye’ - A flu epidemic sweeps the camp, and if the sight of people wearing masks and looking worried isn’t moving enough for you In Our Current Era, the only folks left standing as the war casualties keep coming in—Hawkeye, Margaret, Radar, and Father Mulcahy—trauma bond about it. Exquisite. I adore this one. Also another for the annals of Hawkeye shouting down the line to a superior officer about finding a husband.
2x24 'A Smattering of Intelligence' - Honestly it's not about these slipshod spies: it's because Marlene Dietrich is back in town.
2x20 ‘As You Were’ - Love that when this started I was thinking eh it was probably not making my list. A whiplash episode par excellence. Hot Take! - I think this does the kind of thing ‘Sometimes You Hear the Bullet’ wants to do better than that one actually does.
2x22 ‘George’ - A scene or two into this one, Hawkeye comments in the mess tent that one of the kids they just sewed up was really bruised, and not in a combat way, like in a someone beat him way, and I idly muse, hey, in the version where we kick it up a notch: he was beat up for being gay, and comes out to Dr. Pierce because of course he comes out to Dr. Pierce, the kind chaotic bisexual energy is palpable even behind the surgical mask, and then self-identified Aunt Hawkeye has to figure out how to save him. I would have signed a statement giving up my blog in the event were this to actually come to pass, and done so laughing. But then in the year of our lord 1974, DO YOU KNOW WHAT FUCKING HAPPENED. Good thing my mouth was healing because I yelled.
Oh, and if you’re wondering if Benjamin ‘Homoerotics’ Pierce took this network-granted opportunity to come out as straight—
no.
2x21 ‘Crisis’ - They Were All So Cold, redux, variation: There Was Only One Tent. Not quite like that, although does include Hawkeye and Trap essentially sharing a bed and as many layers of Army surplus as they can scrounge while jibber-jabbering with Klinger as he puts on cold cream and Father Mulcahy does an impromptu stand-up bit in his Loyola sweatshirt, and for this and many reasons, this one about burst my heart in warm coziness. Easily the most endearing & domestic thing this show has done to me yet. I’m compromised. Haha fuck, I’m compromised!
Season 1 • Season 2 • To be continued

top 10 gayest h2o episodes: a definitive ranking
i'm back with another ranking, but this time it's a little different! today, i'll be ranking the top 10 gayest episodes of h2o: just add water. (in MY opinion. i realize that this show has no canonically LGBT+ characters, but come on, the subtext. also, i write sapphic h2o fanfiction, what did you expect?) anyway, please don't take this too seriously, it's just for fun.
ranking below the cut!
honorable mention: 1x05 "something fishy"
i'm just going to link this post and let it speak for itself.
10. 1x26 "a twist in the tail"
the episode where the girls are "outed" (the official h2o jaw youtube channel uses this term, no joke) to dr. denman, zane, his father, and nearly the world. thankfully they're able to avert exposure with advice from their gay mermaid mentor/queer elder, miss chatham. however, they begrudgingly have to give up their tails (temporarily, though they don't know this). even with the challenges that being gay a mermaid poses, they've still come to love what they are.
9. 2x11 "in over our heads"
rikki almost dies trying to retrieve a deep-sea treasure and emma cradles rikki's head in her arms while trying to save her. so... yeah. emma also shows hostility towards rikki's boyfriend, zane... and i get that he was a mermaid hunter last season, but this also reads like emma is jealous of his relationship with rikki. but on the flipside, zikki is kind of like a het relationship for gay people. idk. there's a lot going on here.
8. 3x21 "the jewel thief"
rikki and bella's moon crystal necklaces gravitate towards each other and cause a city-wide electrical blackout. this is gay, please don't make me explain. oh, cleo also gets a matching crystal necklace in this episode and the girls all wear them to symbolize their "friendship" (or are they just in a throuple? nobody knows).
7. 1x18 "bad moon rising"
mainly put this episode here because of emma's iconic line to rikki: "if we're going somewhere we're going together" and then their smoldering gazes that follow. but, generally, the subtext is off-the-wall. when rikki loses control of her powers, she thinks she's a danger to society and tries to isolate herself—just like how gay people have been told for thousands of years that we're destructive to society. this one is kinda sad actually :(
6. 1x07 "moon spell"
not only are we introduced to camp gay miss chatham, but there's something really queercoded about embarrassing your family at a party (as emma does in this episode). she also calls rikki "rikki baby" and now i'm realizing that this ranking is pretty much a love letter to rikma.
5. 2x04 "fire and ice"
sometimes i think the writers just forgot who rikki's canon love interest was at the time?? half of these season 2 episodes frame rikki and emma as girlfriends. anyway, emma's desire to be rebellious and wild reads like a baby gay trying to be something they're not after coming out. in the b plot, nate tells lewis he's not "manly" enough and the latter struggles with this. maybe it was unintentional, but some lines make it seem like the show is queercoding lewis. i'm here for it, either way.
4. 2x17 "moonstruck"
a moonstruck rikki and cleo try to expose emma as a mermaid to ash, but without context, you'd think they're trying to tell him that emma's a lesbian and that's why she's been so secretive and distant with him. another mermaid=gay allegory? no one knows for sure, but sources (me) say yes!
3. 2x06 "pressure cooker"
ah, yes... another episode where the writers forgot that rikki and emma weren't dating, included multiple scenes of them on an actual date, and hoped we wouldn't notice. plus, we see that rikki is emma's phone wallpaper. cleo and charlotte also could've had an enemies-to-lovers moment here, but what do i know?
2. 1x01 "metamorphosis"
three teenage girls discover something life-altering about themselves and must stay closeted keep the secret from the rest of society. in the process, they become much closer to one another but also feel isolated from their families and other girls their age. are we reeeally certain that this isn't an allegory? sure, a lot of this applies to the rest of the show, but "metamorphosis" is the episode that started it all, so...
1. 2x18 "the heat is on"
this episode is actually the reason i made this ranking. not only does rikma's homoerotic feud cause a thunderstorm, but they (+ cleo) ditch their boyfriends at the juicenet to celebrate their "anniversary" of becoming mermaids. okay, straighties! bonus points for zane and ash's UST during that game of pool.
end notes
it doesn't surprise me that this list consists mostly of season 2 episodes, because rikma was probably at its peak (imo) in the first half of season 2. it also doesn't surprise me that only a single season 3 episode is here. i'm not sure why that is—maybe it's emma's absence, maybe it's the way the tone of the show shifted considerably from the end of season 2 to the beginning of season 3. anyway, hope you enjoyed this :-)

[[For clarity’s sake as somehow people are still seeing this, this was posted after 2x04 “Watcher” with no knowledge of anything subsequent.]]
Can we just talk about how Seven is so dedicated to keeping Raffi on track, trying to support her, displaying more acts of self-initiated physical contact than we’ve probably seen in the entire rest of her character’s airtime put together
((((i tried to start literally counting it up: this episode alone or even all of S2 vs Picard S1 + all of VOY, but adult!me determined there are apparently limits to how much time I’m allowed to spend on blorbos when also accumulating hundreds of thousands of dollars of graduate school debt, so i guess just trust our collective Seven-stan memories here))))
and it’s all because Raffi with Elnor is Seven with Icheb and that went so terribly wrong; she spent 13 years just losing herself again until she could vaporize that bitch
and so when she says “losing him was not your fault”
-- like, the fucking pain there that’s she’s suppressing for Raffi, because in so many ways (literally-directly, indirectly by leading Bjazyl to him, etc) losing Icheb was Seven’s fault,
and maybe, 13 years and a little bit of closure later it doesn’t hurt as much but afaik, even in the extended canon (i.e. No Man’s Land), there’s not been anything to suggest she’s fully told that backstory to anyone. So Raffi has no idea that Seven so viscerally understands and tbf in probably a worse way because even 13 years later, even finally getting her murder!closure, there’s no way to emotionally logically anything-ly ever really accept that it wasn’t her fault because it was
(and that’s not even getting into how -- the show seems to be ignoring this so far, which is consternating, but Elnor family-bonded with Seven as well in season 1, and then also was killed by her “lover” -- even if Seven wasn’t momfigure as much as Raffi, I kind of hate that they’ve ignored the repeated pattern in favor of her just supporting Raf. Holding out hope they address this, but definitely have faith that fanon’s gonna jump all over that because we love ♫♩trauma♩♫)
she just has to try to keep going, because . . . “every damn day of my life” etc.
talk about fucking character growth, and even just irl human inspiration -- she fucked up and bad things happened and she’s gotten to a point that she can live with that and just try to keep helping people, but also allow herself to be open to emotional engagement (despite how that’s what got Icheb killed in the first place)
and so for her to be trying to support Raffi so much -- they misdirected us with the “cellular photograph” scene that it would be Seven totally unable to fit in in the 21st century, but in this latest episode, it’s Raffi who needs Seven’s rationality and temperance (other than in driving skills lmao) to keep from blowing everything
and it makes sense -- Seven still falls back on borgspeak sometimes, especially without her cortical node or other implants in this AU, can’t find the correct vocabulary and has to rely on honed skills of improvisation and charm (and privilege of being pretty and white in the 21st century); but her still tightly-regulated emotions so perfectly complement how Raffi’s are out of control right now
but just the fact that she can have that control when the parallels are so fucking obvious is . . . i mean, i’m really hoping it’s not just “this is something fandom noticed that they didn’t think of at the time” and we get some kind of scene where it all comes out, but either way
-- anyway, this is way tl;dr but have my seven meta for the night

Hi there, love your blog! was wondering if you could help me find a scene that I'm only half-convinced I'm remembering correctly, basically I have a vague memory of Lilah walkin on a rooftop all smug and dramatic, possibly while watching Angel fight. No worries if nothing comes to mind it's just been driving me crazy lol, thanks
hi! thanks! i love that you and everyone following love the blog cause it makes me love running it 😊
okay so fair warning i'm a bigger fan of btvs so i've seen it and know it far better than ats and i haven't even rewatched ats fully in awhile (currently doing the world's slowest rewatch for like a year or two and only on mid s2).
but immediately my brain was like s4! and i think if this isn't a made up memory/dream you have then it's most likely to have happened between s2-4.
but she is also in s1 so that's still a possibility and she's only in 36 episodes, so i could do some sifting through those episodes when i have some time later but for now i figured i would list all the episodes she's in if anyone else wanted to do that.
but also maybe one of the 200+ followers who might all know the show better than i do or at least have seen it more recently, might know exactly what scene you're talking about.
TL;DR: which episode possibly features Lilah walking on a rooftop looking smug and dramatic while possibly watching Angel fight? (sidenote: i just had a memory of i think Lilah and Gavin watching Angel fight from afar... so if i'm right that would narrow it down to episodes with both Lilah AND Gavin.)

hi, T i really like your blog and love to read your posts about stargirl. I love the dynamic between beth/rick and yolanda/courtney. But I feel like they’re not that close as a group unless they’re fighting the villain of the week. I was wondering what you thought about this. thank you have a nice day. btw is there a discord or something for fans of the show?
Hey anon!!
It’s really super interesting actually that you bring this up. I was talking to @theozmachronicles the other day about how much we do in fact love the whole JSA dynamic as a group of teenagers in that it is a highlight of the show and there seems to be a collective wholesomeness to the team as a group. The four are friends in a way that is not as easily distinguished by the superhero team in The Flash, let’s say. I can honestly tell that Yolanda & Beth, Rick & Yolanda, Yolanda & Courtney, Courtney & Beth, Rick & Courtney and Rick & Beth all have distinct friendships. I’m especially thinking about the 2x04 milkshakes scene where we see Rick react to Courtney’s non-verbal plead to let Yolanda’s order slide. That speaks more to Rick and Courtney’s friendship and what he’s willing to do for her than it reveals what we already know about what Courtney thinks of Yolanda. Then a few minutes later Rick is laughing at Yolanda’s comment about Eclipso’s origins sounding morbid, kinda goes on their little “we relate because we both brood” dynamic going on there. I also think of Yolanda’s protectiveness and admiration of Beth in the next gifs.
I think what you’re picking up on right now is a thread (or theme, I might say) that the 4 are currently hiding secrets from each other. And these secrets are most clear cut in the Yolanda & Courtney dynamic and the Rick & Beth dynamic. Rick and Beth know about Dr Mid-Nite and Beth’s family issues. Courtney and Yolanda know about what happened with Brainwave and awkward encounters with Artemis. While it does work to split them in pairs to get substantive character arcs for all 4, I definitely do see how this comes to a head. At the end of the day, I see these 4 teens caring deeply for each other and spoilers 👇 there is going to be some resolution to amend the gap in knowledge etc.
Speaking of this, I do think it’s important to acknowledge that Yolanda is….really depressed right now. She’s being forced to go to summer school with Courtney when she doesn’t actually need to be in summer school, and work when she’s not in school while basically getting disowned by her parents and still trying to keep up with amending her guilt over Brainwave and trying to holdfast onto her faith while dealing with creepy headaches. On top of being a superhero actively helping out and going to team missions with the rest. She’s clinging to Courtney as her best friend right now because she’s the only one who she told her secret to and I think that Courtney is the one thread she’s currently holding onto to stay afloat. But she’s going to need more than just Courtney’s support to get through this and ^ my speculation for episode 7 is that the support will come for all of them with all of their issues because they care about each other so much. My guess is that the divisiveness is intentional for a narrative purpose so we can learn more about the characters separately, before cohesion again as a group unit heading into season 3. I believe the starsquad is already very strong, especially for only 18 episodes! But of course their bonds can develop more and still should (especially as romance enters the fold) and I’ll be looking to it!
Finally, there is an hournite discord specifically that I know of (and am part of). Info is at @hournitenation

have any other actors updated their imdbs for diary??
Not much in the way of big new updates which is surprising since S2 is only a week away. There's actually an old update that I only just noticed now, the actor who plays Davis the racist white tennis guy from the rival team who made fun of the accent on Cañero is in eps 2x01 and 2x06. I hadn't noticed because I didn't recognize the actor. I don’t think his character will be super important but it is interesting that Davis’ last appearance is in 2x06 which is CJ’s first appearance. There’s a good chance that Davis will say something, probably racist, to Bobby or CJ and I could see Bobby standing up for CJ or vice versa and that’s their first big interaction ( I could definitely see Davis making fun of CJ’s afro but we’ll see).
The actor who plays Craig, Sam and Gabi’s married gay co-worker had updated his imdb a while back and he’s only in 2x07 this season. Dr. Cooper’s actor just updated his imdb and he’s in eps 2x01, 2x07, and 2x10. There’s a character named Adrienne who I think was one of Elena’s classmates in S1 who’s in eps 2x02, 2x05, 2x09, and 2x10. Another classmate named Flip is in eps 2x02, 2x05, and 2x06. A brand new character named Clara is in eps 2x04, 2x06, and 2x10. A new character named Hannah is only in ep 2x01. There’s a freshman girl character credited for 2x05, maybe a girl one of Bobby’s crew talks with in the background or something since she doesn’t get a name. Most of the mains and major recurring characters haven’t updated yet though so we might not know how many eps Cami or Jessica or Joey are in until the season is out.
Also for any fans of doafp out there, I highly recommend you check out the smash hit New Zealand rugby series Head High which just premiered the first ep of its 8 ep S2 run. It’s a great show that tackles a lot of important subjects and has a very engaging gay story line with Tai Roberts the star rugby player and his crush on his openly gay classmate Steven Grimstone. If you need a link for the 6 ep S1 or for 2x01 you can send an off anon message to santiagonex on tumblr and rumour has it he might be able to hook you up.

2x04 To 2x22 Character Allowed on the Wesley Crusher Friendship Ship
Second Officer Klag 02x08- he’s a pain in the ass, but once you get to know him he’s cool. And he would be a good influence on Worf.
Salia 02x10- Not a permanent member because she has a job, but definitely visits often. Those kiddos were cute together and we should see them as mature adults with their own lives going on.
Sarjenka 02x15 - She’s a child who deserves the world.
Ensign Sonya Gomez 02x16 - she’s cool. I’d trust her with everything but a hot chocolate
Dr. Pulaski 02x18- she took deadly poison tea just for friendship purposes. She believes in responsible bad decisions.
Brenna Odell 02x18- I love people who are hostile to the English and everyone they’ve ever met. She’s a woman who knows what she wants and her ambition is to be lauded. She would be great at keeping the gang on task.

Jess Watches // Mon 16 Oct Synopses & Favourite Scenes
Call the Midwife (with mum) 6x00 Christmas Special 2016
A group from Nonnatus House travels overseas in order to assist a struggling clinic in South Africa.
I would like to know more about Sister Julienne and Dr Myra and if they had a romance at some point. You definitely get the vibe that they've explored each other bodies in a past affair. Also, if Barbara were to sing softly in my ear I too would've got pregnant.
The Consultant 1x05 Sick
Craig calls in sick so he can investigate a lead about Patoff - the mystery deepens as bizarre details are revealed. In the meantime, Patoff continues to play his own games with the employees.
Wild theory: Patoff is an A.I and the gold skeleton was being made for him, which is why he struggles walking upstairs, because his limbs are so heavy.
Our Flag Means Death 2x04 Fun and Games
After he's banished from the Revenge, Blackbeard unwittingly receives relationship advice from some dysfunctional old friends.
Anne & Mary having the toxic relationship, while Ed & Stede were so tender with each other. A contrast in vibes I didn't know I needed when I saw who was guest starring. Also, I 🖤 🦄.
Over the Garden Wall 1x08 Babes in the Wood
While Wirt and Greg lay down to rest, they're drawn into a dreamworld of cherubs, flowers, and clouds.
The weirdest episode yet, which is mad to say about an always weird animation lol. I hope with Beatrice's help that Wirt can rescue their leader.
Shelter 1x08 Found (Season Finale)
The gang finds strength and comfort in being together. Mickey saved Bat Lady's life which she repays by finally telling him about a terrible tragedy that took place in the tunnels under her house.
How did Mickey and Bat Lady not have to go to the hospital for smoke inhalation?? He was so clever to figure the pipe thing out; Rachel proudly accepting bestie status. And possibly more with the way she was looking at Ema lbr; Spoon should join the cheerleader team so Rachel can teach him all their routines. This shit was bananas! (B-A-N-A-N-A-S)
