Man, these people who think they are supporting Damen in the fandom by hating on Laurent are some of the most annoying people ever
I literally just saw someone saying that "Damen is the product of society" to justify him having slaves while also saying Laurent "chose" to be cruel in the same sentence!
You can not be serious!
When Damen does something wrong it's "society's" fault but when Laurent does something it's "his choice"??? I mean it's not like Damen was the most priviledged person in his entire kingdom with actual authority and Laurent was a prince who couldn't do anything against his uncle and has been abused for a long time!
I wonder who had more of a "choice" and who is more of a "product" of their circumstances
(if you say both it would probably be the correct answer but believe me when I say, some people can't even consider it)
And if I see one more of these annoying people talking about race and racism to try and shut people up in their interpretations on these fictional characters, Imma throw hands at this point!

Oooh no. I remember. That scene is placed in the: "scenes that make me want to put my head through a fuckin brick wall" compartment of my brain.

Tumblr media
this is racist on its own but i think what always gets me about these types of posts is (and i realize this is a very surface level observation but) you never see people on here say "western live-action dramas are the high school girls in underwear medium" people will critique riverdale or pretty little liars or supernatural or the such individually but the issue is almost always attributed to the specific piece of media or the writers and not the medium as a whole despite the fact that a large amount of these examples do in fact do the same things people constantly act like are unique flaws of anime (misogyny, sexualization of high school characters, romanticization of underage characters getting with overage ones, ect.) it's all just very blatant

Laurent & Jealousy
While I see the merit and appeal of jealous Laurent, it's also notable how unpetty he is at times. Like when telling Jokaste he didn't think she DID choose between brothers, knowing she still had feelings for Damen. He's figured her out, robbing her of her ability to continue playing the game, but he doesn't lord it over her. Which might sting worse, idk, but I woulda been hella petty and he's just not.
Tumblr media
He's not even magnanimous in victory; he's compassionate toward someone who knew well how wonderful Damen was and willingly let him go. He's secure in the knowledge of who he is and what he possesses, and he's like that with Nicaise too (who of course was never actually at his throat). He has an affinity for other people who are sharp and calculating with some inner goodness to them, especially when they can dispense with the illusion that there's any real competition between them.
I think his amateur domming via Ancel and the nice brothel ladies reflects this surprising lack of conventional jealousy too. He does it because he can't touch Damen himself but wants to work him out sexually, figure out what he likes, and exercise control over him in that realm, since he knows Damen's attracted to him. And he is attracted to Damen, too, but he's conflicted over it, and this way he can channel his desires safely (since he has only known sex to be violent, used to hurt and control) while still making a power play. There is never any uncertainty—not on his part, not on Ancel's part, and certainly not on Damen's part—that this is about anything but him and Damen. The others are just set dressing, tools.
I often enjoy portrayals of him as jealous and he's certainly.. possessive, in his way. Making it clear when precisely he has begun bending over for Damen as it were, and those repeated instances of him in pet disguise saying he doesn't like sharing...
Tumblr media
look i understand this line had strategic significance i.e. Do not send anyone in while i'm doing my schemes, but the repetition makes me think there's some truth to it. or else he just thought this was a real banger line that bore repeating word for word
It's just something I've noticed, those instances when he is kind where a more insecure and jealous person could not be. Some of it is a matter of his intellect and emotional control, and of knowing his own limitations. He is not someone who can easily indulge in intimacy, nor does he seem to think it's something he deserves. After coming to know him better and develop some respect and admiration for him on top of his immediate attraction, Damen treats him like someone who does deserve it. In disguise as a pet, and while trading intimate gestures with Damen like icing his bruise or receiving a massage, Laurent indulges in the fantasy that he could be loved. But the reason he likes his vicarious games and does not grow jealous over the Vaskian tribeswomen etc., is not merely the result of his massive intellect and self-possession, but rather from internalizing the 'lessons' of his abuse as well.
The next two paragraphs will concern the Regent and his abuse of Laurent and others so please skip them if that's triggering or if you're just not interested in reading that. I've seen some insinuation that Laurent is jealous of the other boys/young men who are or have been targeted by his uncle, and I'm sure what he feels about his uncle and his other victims is complex. In my view, though, the brutal dressing down of Aimeric was more a manifestation of his own self-loathing, for having once been able to believe that his uncle loved him even as he abused him. He's fond of Nicaise, seeing him as the only boy with the potential to think his way out of his situation, to outsmart the Regent. The fact that he couldn't is devastating to Laurent (as it suggests Laurent won't be able to either), but he also feels a terrible responsibility for having left him there without fully breaking the Regent's hold on him, because he was just a child.
I don't believe he blames anyone else for what a monster his uncle is. Aimeric is around his age, and the thought of still holding those feelings probably repulses Laurent. Yet he can still see himself in Aimeric, because even after everything his uncle has done, he was still surprised to find out that he really did want to end Laurent's life. I think as a result of the abuse he endured and still endures, he doesn't really see himself as a person, someone who could love and be loved. He understands the power of a tease, of wanting the unattainable. He knows the hold he has over Damen but feels in some way that it's false, that if Damen really knew what was done to him, what he 'allowed' to happen, he wouldn't want him. He considers the incestuous "taint" in the family to extend NOT to Auguste, and so implicitly it does extend to him in his mind. He likely internalized that he 'seduced' his uncle simply because he did not want to be left alone as a preteen after his whole family was wiped out.
Of course, Damen's immediate response to learning that Laurent's uncle abused him is utter rage towards the Regent with absolutely no negative impact on his feelings of adoration and love for Laurent, because he is good in ways that Laurent can never anticipate. My underlying thesis, then, is that Laurent's relative lack of jealousy is the result of knowing his strengths but also vastly overestimating his "flaws", which in fact were horrors inflicted upon him as a boy that he's been dealing with on his own ever since, needlessly blaming himself for, bearing the burden alone. Laurent is a whole wriggling mass of trust and control issues. I can easily imagine that he might become jealous once he actually has someone he loves and feels safe with, but Damen's possessiveness seems to give him a giddy thrill; he savors it, perhaps because it seems so unlikely. I think Laurent's own somewhat unconventionally expressed jealousy/possessiveness is the result of overwhelming attraction the likes of which he's never felt before. Or, as this amazing post put it:
Tumblr media
This is just all so new to him—feeling loved and desirable, and loving and desiring in return—and he's clear in "The Summer Palace" that the thing that was developing between him and Damen scared the hell out of him and still sometimes does.
Anyway, this was in my drafts but I banged it out for nice twt mutual @/WakahisaSachiko who asked my thoughts on jelly/possessive Laurent because I had had some thoughts about Damen's jealousy/possessiveness being more conventional than Laurent's. This is now very long so I will see myself out now but please feel free to share your jealous Lamen thoughts with me... I love them so :3

Yamato's handsome uni boyfriend😍
We should find a name for him that fits 'cause we need that ship to exist
I saw you made a fic with Daiken too. Out of curiosity, what are your ships in Digimon? Besides Taito and Daiken?
the million dollar question, what are my fave ships ? lol
Well to be honest I consider myself way more of a multishipper than meets the eyes.
I may be a "Taiyama/Taito" first and foremost but I do have a soft spot for both Taiora and sorato as well.
For Yamato, I do like Jyoumato too, and when I saw Yamato with his random handsome university classmate, all my brain saw was "ship, ship , ship" and I don't even know this guy's name😥
This is the guy by the way for anyone who can't remember him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't multiship Taichi as much unfortunately. It's either Taiyama or Taiora for me.
For the rest of the characters, I obviously like Sora with Taichi and Yamato but I also really like her with Mimi and Jyou!
I also like multiple combinations of Jyou, Sora and Mimi.
Koushiro and Iori are my least favorite characters to ship.
My 02 ships are mostly Daiken and Takari but I also do have a soft spot for Miyako x Ken and Daikeru as well as Daikari.
I multiship the 02 children so hard that every time two of them breathe in the same scene, my brain unlocks a new OTP
My crack ship would be Yamato with Ken and Taichi with Daisuku (and Mimi with Miyako) but I like them for humor and can't really say I ship them.

I love Damen. He's such a hypocritical little brat. He spends all of book 1 talking shit about how much of a spoiled prince Laurent is without ever admitting to himself that so was he.

This is an interesting idea. I'm just not on board with the idea of Auguste dying at Marlas (the rest I completely agree with)
I mean sure, Aleron would've probably still been killed , but Auguste has been compared to Damen enough time for me to believe he is not only strong but clever enough not to simply just die by a simple trick like an arrow to his chest.
I think Auguste would have lived Marlas at least, and that by itself, could save Laurent, even if for a short time.
The image I have of Auguste is of a strong hero and warrior who can only be defeated by a hero similar to himself (Damen) or at worst case scenario, by his own naivete ,like how Damen was naive enough not to see Kasto's betrayal until he got captured.
(And now I am imagining an alternative universe where the regent captures Auguste and sends him to Akielos as a slave lol😂)
One of the saddest aspects of Laurent's story is that he surely thought that the Regent only went after him because Auguste died, leaving him defenseless, and that he only tried to kill him in order to prevent Laurent from retaliating against him upon his ascension to the throne. Therefore, Laurent considered Damen's actions as the source of all his suffering. But the truth is that everything would have happened the same way with or without Damen. The Regent had been after the throne from the beginning. He ordered Aleron's death before the battle of Marlas. It only makes sense to assume that he had planned to kill Auguste next, probably right after the King, so that he could get to Laurent before he got "too old". Yes, Damen made it easier for him, but he would have managed to do it anyway. Even if there had been no war with Akielos, he would have found a way to get rid of his brother and nephew. Perhaps Aleron would have died in bed after a long and mysterious illness that the doctors “couldn't cure”. Perhaps Auguste would have been betrayed and killed “by his own guard” in his chambers. One way or another, Laurent would have been left alone with his uncle. The only difference is that, in this scenario, Laurent would have had no reason to hate Damen and seek revenge. And without that, he might have ended up like Aimeric. And even if he had found the willpower to keep living, the Regent would have had no reason to send Damen to him as a slave. So Damen would have died with his father and Laurent would not have made it out of Arles alive without him. Therefore, ironically, it was Damen's killing of Auguste that saved both their lives and ultimately prevented the Regent's victory.

"I dreamed of him—his strong arms wrapping me in a firm embrace as our lips met in a deep, lingering kiss. A soft blush bloomed across his sun-kissed cheeks, and in his glistening eyes, I saw the tenderness of a loyal, gentle soul… like a devoted hound, warm and unwavering."

How do you deal wity writer's block? If you ever had them? I am writing a fic and I am stuck on one scene for months.
You seem to actually be able to finish your fics, I am jealous 😭
Oh, the big one! Writer’s block. Yes, I definitely get it, and my TLDR advice is that you basically just have to write through it.
By that, I don’t mean you should be able to shrug it off miraculously, but that there are some practical steps you can take to help yourself through it and break its spell over you.
Tumblr media
Some things that help me:
1.) Make it ok to just try
Take yourself to your writing place and sit down with what you’re currently writing and find a way to engage with it. Read over what you have so far, and edit that, or read over already published chapters.
If you can, try to write a couple of lines of dialogue, or a bit of description. It doesn’t have to be a lot and it doesn’t have to be “good”.  If you’re blocked, it doesn’t matter if what you’re writing is objectively not great. What matters is that you’re writing.
Or maybe you don’t manage to write at all! Just the fact that you sat down and tried is still you doing a good job. You’ve done your job. Pat yourself on the back for it. The next time you try like this, more words might come.
And that takes me onto point two…
2.) Write the shit you need to
Maybe you need to feel your way through some plot points you haven’t quite worked out, or explore how two new characters interact. Just write that shit down, because it’s probably part of your process.
The great thing about a work in progress is that you can always take stuff out again! Just because you wrote it in your document doesn’t mean you need to include it in the final draft you go on to post.
WRITE THE SHIT YOU NEED TO. It’s my favourite writing mantra. And sometimes you need to write a whole lot of shit to get to the good stuff.
Not sure if something you have written is shit? That’s fine! If you have doubts, just pop that section down at the bottom of your document, where it’s not lost, but also not getting in the way of anything else. You can make a call later about whether you need to include it.
Which brings me to…
3.) Do you really need to write that bit?
I’m a firm believer that fic should be fun, so if there is a scene that you are finding really labourious or can’t motivate yourself to write, ask yourself if you could just…not write it.
Could you replace it with a different scene that you actually feel excited to write? Or, if that scene truly is integral to your plot, could you have it happen “off camera” and sum it up in a quick paragraph or flashback instead?
Anon asker, if the cause of your block is one particular scene that you have been stuck on for a while, I’d be asking myself if I can find a way to do without that scene. So in this scenario, it’s less a case of writing through the block and more a case of writing around it.
I find that if I’m struggling to feel engaged myself, not only does that tend to come across to the reader, but it’s sometimes also a sign that the scene isn’t really that necessary.
4.) Put that new fic away!
Like I said, fic writing should be fun. You do whatever you want. There’s no obligation to keep writing the same fic, or to finish every WIP you start to post.
THAT SAID. If your current goal is to finish your existing WIP, and you are really serious about that, then I personally think you need to leave new story ideas alone until it’s done.
If I'm trying to finish a fic and have new ideas, I put those ideas on a list to write, once my existing WIP is done. It’s good motivation for me to finish, so I can get to the shiny new things!
THE BIG CAVEAT TO ALL THIS
Sometimes we are just not in a good place to write. For some people, writing is a way to help themselves through a tough time. Others (like me) struggle to write if they are feeling too stressed or too down or too exhausted.
It’s ok to need a break from your writing, and it’s ok to take one. Maybe that block isn’t so much a block as a sign to step away for a bit? If writing fic isn’t serving you right now, then you can absolutely let it go, knowing that it will still be there when you’re ready for it again.
Hope at least some of this is helpful, nonny! Like I said in my other post, I am by no means an expert, but this is the stuff that works for me. Sorry to ramble on so long. Good luck with your fic!
