Fillicember Day 13: Tiger

Little stripey guy!! He’s so cute I wanna gently hold him. This lil striped Filli was made by @hard-times-paramore, who didn’t colour him but I went for a light grey cause that’s what colour the paper was haha.

another DQ based doodle dump, this time cuz i have been watching the anime along with the books (very fun doing that cuz i get to make fun of the anime for adding stupid stuff and changing things lmfao) i had just finished Shifting Sands when i did these but now i'm further ahead (just finished Maze of the Beast)

i had imagined Dain with a mole for whatever reason, but i don't think he has anything like that, i just think it adds to his "delicate features"

also some designs here aren't final, especially Barda, idk what's going on with him tbh lmao

and also Filli !!! i'm becoming more familiar with how to draw him, and currently that is "potato shape" and i love him <3 dunno what's going on with Kree tho,,

Practical Move made his 3yo debut one to remember when he rolled home much the best in the G2 San Felipe.

The race looked like it would be a show down between the former Bafferts – especially Hejazi – and Mandella’s impressive maiden winner, Geaux Rocket Ride. Those two definitely went at it early, but when the real running started, Hejazi backed up and Practical Move was able to slice through the inside and draw clear. Geaux Rocket Ride was a brave second while Skinner closed from the clouds to get up for 3rd.

Practical Move has 6 races under his belt and has hit the board every time with 3 wins. He took a few tries to break his maiden, finishing behind Cave Rock and National Treasure. He broke his maiden via DQ and crossed the wire first for the first time in his last start as a 2yo when he won the G1 Los Al Futurity.

Practical Move is from the second crop of Practical Joke and out of Ack Naughty. Ack Naughty was a nice NY allowance filly who hit the board in a few stakes. Ack Naughty has some decent stakes running siblings and her dam, Dash For Money, is a half-sister to Flaming Heart who was a serious broodmare. Flaming Heart gave us Commissioner, Intrepid Heart, and Laugh Track. Flaming Heart is also the grand dam of Vino Rosso via her daughter Mythical Bride.

My first fanart of @gauntletqueen following her assertion that DQ doesn’t exist. I dunno about y’all, but I believe the lil’ filly! My favourite details are the Gauntlet Queen logo upon her bolas tie, the zigzag from GQ’s original design being incorporated as the belt upon her hat, and the McDonald’s Denim used in her skirt.

They're very furry animals, they squeak, and they don't look like rats, but are still rodents and move like rodents. Lief agreed with Jasmine that Filli didn't look like a rat, but said he was close enough to one to terrify the superstitious people of Noradz.

Day 4 - Caring

Jasmine— what was a I thinking searching for a caring character in my mind. I mean, sure, Jasmine is many things: wild, independent, brave... but her most instrinsic quality is her care for everything [not evil].It's Anna's spirit in her. And it's solidly fused with her selflessness and her soft heart beneath layers of ferocity. What a shame that this was her most underrated trait in my eyes for a long time!

When she was orphaned and took care of Filli and Kree; when she met two strangers in the forests and endangered herself once she realized they were not Grey guards; her extensive care for the trees and living things; every time she stubbornly took care of Lief and Barda, with her healing balm and the tiny jar around her neck, symbols of how much she's ready to look after her loved ones (she sometimes had such a motherfigure among the trio); how she tenderly tried to calm down little Ida; how she wept for the small bundle of bones of the fake heir... and the list goes on.

I just realized that about one third of my DQ sketches is solely dedicated to Jasmine and the rest is mostly Jasmine with someone elss. Gosh I love this girl so much I can't even express it appropriately. But anyway here's one of my first versions of her I sketched in 2017 and colored now. I don't agree with some parts of this character design anymore (like how her nose bridge is concave or how instead of being curly, her hair is wavy, or her ragged clothes being foolishly inefficient for living in a forest), or perhaps my drawing style has changed.

Roddacember 2019 Day 5

So let’s talk about my favourite book for a second.

It’s hard to pick favourites, obviously. I don’t think I could pick ONE favourite, BUT if I just looked at which had the largest collection of things I like, (and this came as a bit of a surprise to me) I might have to say City Of The Rats. I loved the encounter with Thaegan’s children, Tom’s shop, first encounter with Doom, and the whole Noradz section. Also MUDDLETS!!! I love those things! I also have very vivid memories of staying up later than I was supposed to, just to read this book. Good times.

Now I will very accurately recreate City Of The Rats by memory (note that it may be tainted by the anime)

Lief: Wow I sure am glad we killed Thaegan Thaegan’s children: Our names are Hot, Tot, Fie, Fly, Zan Zod, Pik, Snik, Lun, Lod and Ichabod. You killed our mother. Prepare to die. Lief: Okay but how about you kill each other instead Ichabod: Yeah that sounds reasonable Barda: Good thing we got out of that sticky situation. Oh look a shop! Jasmine: What is this ‘shop’ thing you speak of? Tom: Welcome to Tom’s shop. Tom always talks in third person. Or maybe Tom only does that in the anime. Tom doesn’t remember. Lief: Let’s buy some magical thingies we might happen to need Tom: That’ll be 30000 gold Doom: I am mysterious. *suspicious look* Jasmine: Yuck what a creep, would hate to be that guy’s kid Lief: What are these adorable little three-legged puppy goat ponies? Tom: These are mu- Lief: I WANT ONE CAN I HAVE ONE BARDA PLEASE BARDA PLEEEEAAASE Barda: I’m too tired for this Tom: Just remember to take the road to the left Lief: No. No I don’t think I will. (gets knocked out by crazed muddlets) Lief: Wow! Who could’ve thought not following his advice could get us into trouble Reece: Welcome unclean ones CLEAN NORADZEER Tira: Have some bread WHOOPS Reece: Die you filthy person CLEAN NORADZEER Filli: Sup bitches Reece: KILL IT! CLEAN NORAD- Lief: no u Reece: (dies one of my top 5 most horrific deaths in DQ, and there’s many to choose from) Lief: Hey we’re back at Tom’s shop Tom: Didn’t Tom tell you to go to the left? Now get out of here you little shits Jasmine: How are we ever gonna cross this river Lief: Good thing we bought these Moses rocks Rats: Allow us to introduce ourselves Jasmine: I’ve had it and I’m leaving for some reason I don’t fully remember Lief: Whatever, we don’t need you to save our lives every five minutes (proceeds to almost die) Jasmine: Fine I’ll come back Reeah: I am the Shadow Lord’s best servant, I can see the future Lief: Oh yeah well could you see this one coming (kills big snake boi) Barda: Good thing we found the gem that helps against snakes just before coming here huh Lief: Oh hey the opal (has nightmarish visions of the future)

That’s pretty much how I remember it.
