Danny Phantom Lore Doc (Part 1)
He~llo! This is quite overdue but I have a document where I list the things that happen in Danny Phantom that I like to share some snippets of. Most of them are informational while some I shared because why not. Since the way I'm going to arrange these screenshots is partially by 'whatever flows the best', I'm going to give the colour key to the doc.
Blue = Danny
Purple = Sam
Dark Green = Tucker
Light Green = Ghost Zone/ Ghosts
Red = Jazz, Dr. Fentons & general Amity Park stuff (there will be text to indicate which is which)
The text in brackets represents personal interpretation.
Also, one more thing before we begin, I have a choose-your-own-adventure style poll going on now! The setting of it is a modern day, fantasy world and it's currently just polling to establish what your fantasy race will be. I hope some of you enjoy it and, without further ado, let's get into the screenshots!
(I'd already shared this info in another post but I'm putting it again here)
(Jazz Fenton)
(Technically, I could actually hear it, it's just that a., it would take a while to translate, word for word, into the doc and I did not feel like doing that, b., when I first got to the scene, there was quite a bit of noise in my home, hence why I couldn't hear it properly in the first place &, c., the text I wrote was too funny to remove.)
(This isn't the only [ultra vegan on stereos] joke I'd made. To tell you the truth, I couldn't bother to try to make out the words that made up the phrase 'ultra-recycle vegetarian' (or whatever the phrase actually is) when it was first mentioned so I wrote that instead and kept it as a bit of a joke.)
(Amity Park) (More specifically, the students of Casper High during the menu change protest, but I digress.)
(Jazz Fenton)
(Dr. Fentons)
(Jazz Fenton)
(Jazz Fenton)
(Dr. Fentons)
(Jazz Fenton) (I have a post related to this, the driver license one and the screenshot below)
(Jazz Fenton)
(Dr. Fentons) (Here's another post about the screenshot)
(Dr. Fentons)
(Dr. Fentons)
(*The next bullet point is a series of screenshots of the Fenton Grappler*)
(And it seems I am about to exceed the photo limit so the next series of screenshots is coming to ⋆ a reblog near you ⋆. *snaps fingers*)

Lucifer damn! I have gone down a rabbit hole of DP x DC Au's, and no. I'm not mad about this! (OK, that's a tiny lie. I have three docs of TFP fandom that I need to finish) But anyway, I've had this idea, and yes, imma type it out since I have nothin' better to do anyway.
Also, this was loosely inspired by this amazin' writer Space-Dreams-World
And this is the thin' that inspired my dumbass to write Here!
Oh, and before I forget, I don't precisely remember how the comics go, so I'll probably just pull stuff outta my ass and call it a day (But hey, that's what Au's are for), but if it bothers you sorry, there's waaaay too much Batman lore and don't get me started on the Re-boots!
(I hope I didn't butcher your original idea too much, but I did say your writings loosely inspired this!)
___________
Danny, after comin' out to his parents that he's Phantom, didn't go too hot, but hey! he has multiple plans! He just didn't want to use this one...After all, who wants to live in a new dimension? He's also glad that he waited until he turned twenty-one so that he could actually leave.
Thanks to Sam siphonin' money outta her parent's money for him for years and Tucker makin' a new identity for him, a bonus is that if he went to a different dimension, it still worked!
In the end, it's better than bein' on a table in the GIW labs after his Mom turned him to said government, But it's actually not that bad. He met a cool guy named Thomas Wayne, who is really chill (Also not bad-lookin). He's been In this world for probably three years now.
He met Thomas a couple of months after he dropped into this world and set up his new name, Daniel (Danny) Nightingale. He even met his wife, Martha Wayne, And he moved into their place two years ago after he had a break-in. And it's been goin' great at this point. He's probably bein' healed hostage by both Waynes and Alfred. He's cool with it, tho!
They were even cool with him bein' a half-ghost and the King of the infinite realms, and why they found out? It was Skulker's fault. I mean, come on, who comes in at dinner and claims that he wants your pelt on his wall...Oh, wait! Skullker did. Yeah, it wasn't fun explainin' that it's just how he greets Danny after all these years and that he just wanted to have a friendly spar.
Then, one day, the Waynes learned somethin' that broke Danny's heart. Martha and Thomas were havin' a hard time gettin' pregnant they later learned that it was because Thomas was infertile.
One day, Both Martha and Thomas asked him a favor. They asked if he would be okay with helpin' them get pregnant. He's not gonna lie. It was a shocker, but he understands that he does look like Thomas a bit, and people have even called them brothers.
It also helped him out when he told them that he didn't mind helpin' them out, and since they were on the topic, he said to them that he had a little crush on both of them. They both blushed red as a tomato and told him they felt the same. They didn't really understand how it worked.
Yes, he did explain that more than one person could be in a relationship that it was called Polyamory and that he has experience with it. He dated a girl and a guy simultaneously before leaving his universe, and it worked out in the end. He started to date both of the Waynes, and Martha got pregnant with a baby boy!
All three of them were over the moon with that news, and after baby Bruce was born, both Thomas and Martha decided that he was a Wayne now, so officially, he's now Danny Nightingale-Wayne, but to outsiders, he's still just Nightingale.
Even then, the only person who knows is Alfred. When Bruce was learnin' to talk and ended up callin' him Da, he told them he was fine just bein' Bruce's Godfather or uncle. That didn't go well, so Danny is Pa, and Thomas is Dad.
Bruce didn't understand why he couldn't call Danny Pa out in public or around friends until Danny sat him down and explained that it was a secret that he was his Pa and to the world, he was just his Godfather and if anyone knew that he's was his Pa it could be bad for the family.
After the talk, Danny somewhat made a game out of it that Bruce was a super secret spy and that it was his job to protect the family (I haven't really thought of this, but I thought it would be cute) And Bruce did keep it a secret until his Mom and Dad where killed.
Danny was supposed to go with them to the movies until the Observants demanded that he return to the infinite realms for a council meetin'. While Danny was tryin' not to freeze every observant in the room for bein' straight up annoyin', he heard Bruce scream for his Mom and Dad. He then listened to his pained hiccups for his Pa to come and help them.
Danny froze. The room he was in got much colder as his core demanded him to protect his son, and he was also cryin' for his lover's death. Ice shards spread out in the room, makin' the occupants yell out in shock at what their King had done. Danny then stood up, and with a protective/pained growl, he tore open a portal and went to his son, leavin' the room in chaos.
He couldn't stop the pained whimpers from his mouth when he got there. His son, his little Galaxy, was cryin' over his parent's bodies. Danny's brightest Nebulas, his lifeline after he left his old home, was dead. Without a second thought, Danny de-transformed and quickly grabbed Bruce and held him close.
Bruce quickly grabbed onto his Pa and bawled his eyes out, sayin' how he was sorry that he couldn't save them, how he tried to protect them, how his shield failed, and that he couldn't heal them as Danny taught him.
(I think Bruce, while not bein' as ghostly as Danny, still could do more than the average liminal could. He would have a small ghost core. So he could technically make shields, and I like to think that Danny learned how to push his rapid healin' onto others and started to teach Bruce when he started to show signs of bein' a bit ghostly)
Danny shushed him and told him that he tried his best and that was all that mattered while havin' tears drip down his face. That was how the police found the two Danny sittin' on his knees while huggin' the cryin' Bruce into his chest, tryin' to hide the poor boy from the world.
Most people did accuse Danny of killin' the two until Bruce screamed at them, sayin' that his Godfather loved his parents and that he would rather hurt himself than harm his parents. Alfred also spoke up, sayin' that Danny has never tried to harm the Waynes and even pushed them out of the way if anythin' harmful ever came close to the family.
They dropped the accusation a week later after the police did indeed find out that Danny was nowhere near the scene of the crime, that he was at the airport gettin' back from somewhere, and that the only reason why Danny found them was because Thomas sent him an SOS and their location. (He's grateful that Tucker taught him how to hack)
After everythin' calmed down and Danny had full custody of Bruce, he spent most of his time in the manor with Bruce and Alfred, only goin' to the realms if he absolutely had to, and he started to teach Bruce more about his ghostly side per Bruce's request.
Bruce took more to the sneaky part of the ghost side. Danny also suspected that Bruce might have a shadow core or somethin' related to darkness. Bruce did have fun. He Bruce would try and sneak up on his Pa and Alfred. Danny suspected Alfred knew when Bruce was around and tryin' to get a drop on him. It wouldn't surprise Danny if it were true.
Everythin' was as normal as could be...Until Bruce went missin', Danny almost destroyed the manor with ice. Alfred did manage to calm him down after a while. Danny was heartbroken that he couldn't find anythin' for him or Alfred, but he could tell that Bruce was fine.
About a week after Bruce disappeared, he had no choice but to go back to the infinite realms for short to long periods of time as the Obervents demanded since his son disappeared and since Danny knew that he was safe somewhere in the dimension.
Yeah, he wasn't really pleased with that demand, but then again, messin' with those floatin' eyeballs bastards is good, but messin' with them durin' a meetin'? Even better, and hey, at least he got his frustration out.
At this point, it was probably a good couple of years since Bruce disappeared, and he did have a lot of fun pissin' off the Observents durin' one of the Obervent's "informative" meetings when he felt a pull on his core. Oh? A summon? It's been ages since the last.
When he let himself get pulled toward his "summoner" (and probably pissin' off the eyeball bastards even more), he found himself in a room with a summonin' circle under him, one that he noted didn't bind him just summoned him. He looked around the room and noticed that it had windows that showed space.
Before he would let himself delve into one of his obsessions, he looked down and almost groaned out when he saw a blond man with a trench coat. Great...John Constantine, the man who sold his soul to every damn thin' in the infinite realms, has summoned him? Mann, he already has 75% of his soul.
Just as he was about to open his mouth to say somethin' whitty towards the man, he felt somethin'. He felt his core try and pull him towards somethin'. Danny moved his eyes from the blondie and saw somethin' black move more into the shadows.
Danny narrowed his eyes. That action was so familiar to Danny. He then raised his hand and snapped his finger, lightin' up the room he was in with green flames. He heard some alarmed shouts and a curse from the blondie, but he paid no attention to them. His eyes were on the man in the black cowl.
The man noticeably stiffened, and a sheepish smile spread on his face. What? It couldn't be. Danny floated down to the ground and walked over to the man. He could tell that the man was fidgetin' more the closer he got to him until Danny stood before him. The man was a bit shorter than him, but then again, he was 8 feet tall in this form and 7 feet in his human one.
He could feel the emotions comin' off of him: anxiety, family, and happiness. Danny felt his eyes whidden and a lump in his throat form it was! He felt water buildin' up in the corners of his eyes. He then spoke out two words he thought he might never hear again.
"Little Galaxy?" he crocked out. The man stiffened for a second, then relaxed. "Yeah, it's me, Pa," Bruse said with a smile, his voice crackin' a little. Oh, ancients! His son! he found his son, his little Galaxy.
Danny fell to his knees, grabbed Bruce, and hugged him just like he would when Bruce was younger. Bruce quickly wrapped his arms around Danny and curled into his chest.
"Oh, my little Galaxy! Where have you been!? And why in the realms would you just disappear like that! You gave me and Mister A a heart attack!" Danny scolded.
He could feel the guilt off of Bruce in waves. "I'm sorry, Pa, I just-" Danny sighed when Bruce couldn't finish his sentence. Danny understood he wanted to get revenge for his Mom and Dad. He truly understood. After all, he tried to find the person but never could finish findin' them before the council called on him.
Danny was about to speak before a throat clearin' got his attention. He looked over to the sound and saw a woman. By the looks of it, she was an Amazonian, and right next to her was a man with an S on his chest, a Kryptonian? They looked calm, but he could see the subtle way they held themselves. They were goin' to attack if they saw him as a threat.
Danny smiled. It seemed that Bruce got himself some good friends...? that's not the correct term, so he looked a bit closer at the two. He then promptly lost his shit. His laugh startled everyone. When he finally calmed down, he turned to his son, wiggled his eyebrows, and tilted his head towards the two somewhat behind him.
Bruce coughed into his fist, and Danny would bet that he was blushing from the tip of his ears down to his neck. Subtley nodded his head. Danny snorted, then stood up and brought Bruce to his side. Yeah, he's not lettin' his son go any time soon, thank you very much! "Ahem, please forgive my rudeness." Danny tilted his head down a bit towards the two.
Blondie decided to speak up. "What in the blood hell?" Danny snorted at the man. "Ah, again, forgive. I haven't seen this kid in a while," he said to the room.
Bruce coughed into his hand. Everyone turned their heads towards him, "Justice League, If I may, this is Phantom or, as I like to call him, Pa." Danny tried not to laugh. Bruce seemed a little troublemaker even though he was all grown up.
Everyone in the room froze until the Kryptonian spoke up. "Batman, what the hell? I thought that...." he questioned, then trailed off at the end. Danny snorted Batman? Oh, he's totally bringin' that up soon, but first...
Danny put a hand to his core and fanned hurt. "Oh, the pain! My son never told his friends about me? I'm betrayed!" he floated onto his back, playin' hurt.
The woman snorted into her hand, and Bruce groaned quietly. "Oh, this makes so much sense now," Constantine muttered. While still on his back, Danny raised an eyebrow and then looked toward Bruce. The Man subtly tilted his head to show that he also had no clue what the man in the trench coat meant.
"What is the supposed to mean, Constantine?" the Amazonian woman spoke to the man.
Blondie just sighed and took a flask out of his pocket and took a large gulp, then spoke, "I thought that you could tell Bats has more... Supernatural tendencies, so it makes sense if Bats grew up around the King of ghosts." he told the League "I'm just more curious how he met him" Constantine sighed.
"How he/I met him/me? We met when I/he was born!" Danny and Bruse spoke at once.
Constantine spat his drink out. "Wait, what!?... Y'know what, never mind, So KIng Phantom knew Bat's parents then when he was born became a liminal, " Constantine muttered. Danny then righted himself and wrapped his arm around Bruce once more.
"Actually, you're wrong, Galxay here is part ghost!" Danny informed the League with a Smile, Showin' too much inhuman teeth. After some silence, the woman spoke up. "If I may, what does that mean, your Highness?" she spoke calmly.
"Ah, please just call me Phantom! It also means that Galaxy is 3/4 Part ghost? Maybe a bit more? He does feel a bit different than the last time I saw him, but then again, his core was still growin'," he said, trailin’ off at the end.
Constantine threw his hands up in the air and then froze. He slowly looked at the two. "Wait...Bats, does that mean that Phantom is your Birth father?" Constantine asked with his hands twitchin' like they wanted to grab somethin'.
Every head turned towards Batman and Danny, and the two looked at each other and then at the Leauge, "Yes," they spoke as one. "HOW!?" most of the League shouted. Danny shrugged. "Eh, this was before I dated' both his parents. We learned his other Dad was infertile, and that was sort of the openin' that we needed to explain that we three liked each other. Ultimately, it worked out fine, so a win is a win!".
The League turned their heads to Batman and said the man nodded yes, that what came out of the ghost King's mouth was true.
That day, the Justice League was out of order and needed a proper reboot, and yes, Danny did indeed have the time of his un-dead life. Afterward, he even got to meet his son's lovers.
While the four were together, Danny brought up that poly and vigilantism must run in the family or somethin' so off-handedly that it had Clark and Diana laughin'. Bruce just grumbled at his Pa.
After that shit show of a reunion, Bruce took Danny back to the manor. He caught up with Alfred, and they made a plan that would remind Bruce that if he ever disappeared again and scared the shit out of them again, he was goin' to regret it. Bruce havin' no clue as to what they were talkin' about and frankly didn't want to know promised himself never to piss off his two parents again.
(Bruce still sees Alfred as a father figure. Danny did an excellent job bein' home every day, but sometimes the Observents won in their crusade.
They demanded that Danny be present in their meetings at least once a week, and of course, they could and would go on for days about their topic, even if it was a stupid one, just to keep him there.
And if some of them got put on ice just by suggestin' that he left his son to the mortals to be raised, it was no one's business but Danny's.)
__________
Okay, so this was supposed to be a bit longer, and it would have Danny meetin' Dick and then later Jason, but I decided to split it in half-ish, and if the people want to see the rest of my crappy writin', then I might share it.
I also mainly wanted to get this out and see how it went cause I am very happy with how most of this turned out. I am also runnin' out of motivation so~ but hey, I hoped you liked it!
Part 2 to this shit show!

WOW Long time I didn't do a weird crossover!! :D (like 5min)
I inspired myself from @starkkawajiri Genshin x Marvel Doc Strange variant! I love the idea of Aggravate reaction for a Supreme Strange Variant in genshin :))) Don't forget to follow their works! Their design and Lore idea are awesome!!! 👀(the other Strange here is their Variant btw)
[Spoiler] In 4.2 Main quest we learned than gnosis are cursed energy so... What if this version of Stephen used the electro gnosis plus his dendro vision to resurrect his Christine? 🤔 (Spoiler it didn't work) Searching to use archon's power he cursed himself and turn into an half dragon something like this? If gnosis are dragon's energy 🙌 Of course he distroyed a whole island/country and stole a gnosis so the gods trapped him to punish him.
Dendro and Electro Catalyst so? I design him a signature weapon as a cursed and not cursed Agamoto's eye. I still didn't have idea for his whole kit but maybe something around aggravate reaction 🤷♀️
I supposed like what if Strange he's a shielder, healer, buffer, sub dps, main dps /o/

So the drawing from the other night I mentioned:
I made the mistake of opening twitter the other night (I refuse to call it x) and now my brain is buzzing with Lego monkie kid stuff cuz everybody was freaking out over season 5 being probably close to being a thing (Lego released new sets for it so yeah)
And so combining my rekindled interest in lmk with my also rekindled interest in Danny Phantom, I redesigned an oc I haven’t touched in like…almost a year now I think?
Old Ghost design:
NEW Ghost design >:) :
Took inspo from dp with the powers + the green-blue color scheme cuz yes (let the ghost monkey be a real ghost monkey/silly)
I’ll also prolly be rewriting his lore + character a tad since again I haven’t touched it in a bit, I have a doc with everything I just need to find it-
Also lil extra doodle that I almost forgot-

Dp you have any plans to use the floating Eyeball alien laser Sphere thing? Cuz Connie and the Resistance Leader were looking for it, and Carolina thought it was important, but the guys just left it on the floor of the Freelancer offsite storage facility warehouse place. What is it FOR?!?!
So! I do NOT know much about the actual "Halo lore", and the RVB lore is a little vague (or at least, not super clearly explained), but considering the aliens wanted to worship floating eyeball Epsilon like a "god", and the original Alpha/Fragments were at least assisted in being created by another alien, AND the god-like entities we see in seasons 16-17 had their own little eyeball bodies, it is at least implied that these kinds of AI were at some point intended to be something like powerful guardians, but the aliens kinda "forgot what they were for", and started treating them more like deities. The fact that the Fragments can run really specific and unique tech makes them pretty special, and while other AI might be able to adapt/learn how to do that, it seems to be a little difficult for people to just figure out how to program computers to work that way. All of that to say; I don't know what the floating eyeball was really FOR, but if the Meta hadn't been collecting AI, if Alpha had also been there, and if they found enough to spare, there could have been a whole little "pantheon" for the aliens (Theta, god of trust. Delta, god of logic. Gary, god of BS and knock-knock jokes). I'd imagine CT, and maybe other groups, would have tried to either use the floating eyeballs as some kind of weapon, or to make more AI somehow (they didn't really know what the thing was for either, they just wanted it. because)
Waaaaay down the line, in the grand scheme of things in my RVB story, I have this eventual concept for when things sort of blow-up in a cosmic sense; there are new little AI deities that have been "born", some are just curious/wanting to interact with the mortal beings that have time-traveled, and some are annoying little tricksters trying to cause a ruckus. They mess with the group a few times, but nothing too lethal, and things finally get more or less settled (this is also where my "Tiny Sarge" bit takes place, with a little kid Sarge meeting his older self. shenanigans ensue). However, all of this breaking/fixing of time and space gets noticed by some MORE other-worldly AI, and it causes entirely new problems. Including; the Reds, Blues, Doc, former Freelancers, and Locus get kid-napped and forced to participate in a "tournament of reality". While in this weird pocket dimension, Church/Tex/and the rest of the Fragments are put in little floating eyeball bodies, recognized as "significant AI" (Lopez is indignant about that; sure, he's not supposed to be so highly advanced, but he evolved to be such by sheer stubbornness! the AI running the show try to categorize him as "equipment", but he sure proves them wrong. Respect Lopez the Heavy!) When they have to fight, Church and Tex get their bodies back, and the Fragments are allowed to assist them/the others in battle. Because this isn't just a tournament for different planets and dimensions, but all of REALITY, there are different versions of the characters we've seen, and also old villains that have been gone for a while

every time i hit level 87 i have to do it. this man has been in hell since lachesis was born and now he has to suffer through ziero being the awfullest party member ever. he meets ziero in shadowbringers, realizes its azem, and starts wondering what he did to deserve this eternal torment. ziero doesnt even remember his name until their second meeting.
doing the manderville mambo before npcs is a billion times funnier than doing it literally anywhere i am losing it over the tracking
#ziero/lachesis is a fucking menace i love him dearly#like shes not outright malicious but she can be mean#i like to think lachesis specifically specialized in magic. mostly white magic but she was a formidable black mage too#lachesis summons him & atropos (who is dps only) for something#and he just has to live with the fact that he has to tank for mx 'only the last hp matters' lachesis.#oc ramblings#and you might be thinking like 'well if they hated each other shb wouldn't make sense' WHICH IS CORRECT#it was lachesis's older sibling through whom they were connected & they made them prommy to look after one another#after they were gone#awfullest brother-in-laws but yeah. its that promise. atropos's genuine belief in lachesis's abilities living on#ok that was a lot of oc lore time to retreat to my cave of shame (google docs) goodnight

Can I get the director's commentary on literally anything you want from Shadow Rift. You can do the whole book if you want. I wanna hear your thoughts
Okay okay okay SO! Grr Shadow Rift. Me and my complicated relationship with Shadow Rift………
For those who don’t know DP Lore, Shadow Rift was a fic originally posted to a different website by a different author. The author wanted to abandon it, but I really enjoyed it, so I reached out to them and asked if I could continue it. Shockingly, they agreed, but I had to follow the original idea for their story.
Writing (part of) og Shadow Rift really dipped my toes into fic writing, and was what initially drew in some of my oldest readers (hi Marci). However, after some years of improvement as a writer with the publication of Masked, I just… didn’t like the story anymore. So I reached out to the original author again for permission to rewrite it and they basically just gave me full control of Shadow Rift.
I won’t talk about it too much since they’ve asked to remain anonymous, but they weren’t satisfied with it either but didn’t have the spoons to finish it. And that’s what brought us to Shadow Rift THE REWRITE!
Now that I think about it… I wish I hadn’t deleted my SR planning doc as soon as the epilogue was published… oops.
ANYWAY. SR is quite different from the original, both in quality of writing and character. While the plot moved generally in the same direction, some lore things were changed and the characters actually had concrete ARCS! WOAH! INCREDIBLE!
Like Hat Kid had an arc that improved her view on the world, however subtly. Although you may argue that it was the return of her soul that did this, the soul was only the macguffin. Her developing relationship with Snatcher is what made her develop as well!
Speaking of Snatcher… ugh he was so fun to write. I loved his and Hattie’s dynamic of continually butting heads. I love the parallels that originally appear as foils… AND it was great to make Snatcher an actual character too! I got to fill him with transgender allegory! Happy pride!
However, the character that drew the most evil giggles from me as I planned how to screw over was none other than Elliot. Oh, Elliot, how I love putting you through the wringer. I also had so much fun giving him a new character arc… in the opposite direction of Snatcher’s.
While Snatcher’s perception of himself merges together and he comes to accept himself and Elliot as the same person, just with changes, Elliot comes to make a distinction between himself and Snatcher. Snatcher is okay with himself, including Elliot, but Elliot isn’t.
Snatcher to me is a lot of hard edges with a softer demeanor. Even though he’s soulless, that doesn’t make someone incapable of kindness (like Hattie thought).
But Elliot is the inverse. He’s all soft edges with a sharp pointed center. And, understandably, the events he’d been through- bodysharing, getting cursed, literally mind-merging with Snatcher for a hot minute- wore his patience thin. It doesn’t help that his fate, like Hattie’s, was swiftly approaching, only his was unavoidable.
It shouldn’t be selfish to want to live, but isn’t it tragic that his actions only ended up speeding the process of his and Hattie’s death? Hehe.
Those are my thoughts on the main characters, but there are some minor ones I’d like to comment on too.
I’m sure that many readers noticed that Karmin wasn’t originally part of AHiT! Yes, I used Shadow Rift as an excuse to write her more. And if you noticed that the arc with her was surprisingly open-ended, that was intentional! You see, I did it for thematic purposes. I’m not gonna hold your hand on this one though.
More importantly, though, Vanessa.
Urgh. Vanessa.
I’ve never been able to write her adequately (UNTIL RECENTLY!! I LISTENED TO MISS MISERYGUTS BY RIP AND EVERYTHING CLICKED!! EVERYONE SAY THANK YOU TO GRACEBETH3604 FOR INTRODUCING ME TO IT!!!), but I’ve had kind of a renaissance on Prince and Vanessa characterization recently. SR!Vanessa was a way for me to experiment with a Vanessa that regretted her actions.
But don’t get me wrong- she doesn’t regret them because she’s becoming a better person- she regretted her actions because they had consequences for her, too. She lost her prince and she came to grieve that loss, but not what she did.
(Also Elliot getting cursed was essentially a nod to Gracebeth3604 also. A!au my beloved. Makes me go insane)
For those people who know the original story, they’d know that the whole thing stayed in Subcon. I thought that was rather stale, so I had the setting move to Alpine, and then to Time’s End. That was fun :)
and ummmm I think I’ve run out of things to say! Sorry I started watching a movie in the middle of writing this and for so caught up in analyzing it that I forgot everything I meant to say

Lmao I'm glad I'm not the only person whose had he 'wait - this is saradika!' reaction
Your fab writing is recognisable!! I am so pumped to read more of your DP+W writing :DDD
ahh hi friend!! 💖 this is such a sweet reaction! 🥺 and I feel like a little melted puddle hearing that it's recognizable! such an awesome compliment, thank you so much! (and so thrilled you've been enjoying the dp+w fics! It's been a minute since I've felt so excited about a new fandom, it's been so nice!)
(I can't remember if I've said, but the lore reasons for my sideblog it was because I was feeling shy about blasting my main with doc ock smut lmaooo 💀 (40% that and then 60% because my main is so star wars-focused that I felt funny pivoting) BUT both of those are admittedly silly reasons. though I don't regret it - making this acct was really freeing and I've loved everything I've shared here!)

@daylightcommand3 (making this a separate post because it deserves a separate response)
I once again feel the need to go:
genuinely thank you so so so much, I've tried to give my all to make this cast feel as solid as possible and I'm extremely glad that effort is felt. I love these guys, and I want other people to love them too, so yeah this. this feels good.
I'm definitely satisfied with the 5-role system. It started out as a mix of wanting to define character niches better than Overwatch does with the generic "Tank DPS Support" structure most games go with. Not with only Control as a reimagining of the old Defense role, but the Utility role was made as an idea to better accommodate characters like Symmetra, old Torbjorn, and Sombra, and in general just have a catch-all bin for team-focused characters that weren't explicitly healers. also I'm just irrationally pleased with how the order of Damage, Control, Tank, Utility, and Support goes in order of direct DPS to team support, that little detail of it just tickles me.
Also lore is there! Kind of! I got a google doc that tells the main lore of the world, leading into the catalyst for the start of the "current day" where the game takes place. I might give that a once-over and just. Copy paste the text into a post. Expect that soon, maybe. Character-specific lore still needs work, but the currently "official" main 12 characters each at least have... a vague idea of their story, more or less. Some more than others. Yanno needs the most work I think out of the current 12.
But like. Seriously, thanks. It's infinitely delightful to hear that someone else is excited about this project too. Very much a nice motivation to talk about it more and keeping working away at it.

thinking about a spider-man adventure time au…. like there isn’t a specific spider-man universe i’m using (it’s more of an amalgamation of TASM and mostly USM bc they’re my faves) but oh my god i’m going crazy….. details after cut. i do want to clarify that this is NOT a character analysis because im horrible at that, i CANNOT "read between the lines".
like like peter as finn obviously because of him being the mc,, i’m thinking deadpool being jake because (ignoring spideypool cause i don’t really care for it anymore AND dp’s flirting because finn and jake are BROTHERS.) spidey and dp have a similar dynamic as finn and jake also deadpool’s personality really fits jake as a whole. and copycat is lady rainicorn because dp deserves happiness hehe
gwen is totally princess bubblegum,, science girl,,, peter in this totally has a crush on her and everything happens the same as in canon. i'm also thinking felicia as marceline.. black cat the halloween queen hehe :3 she'll still be a vampire though but she's LITERALLY called black cat she's GOTTA be halloween themed.
next up is ice king i guess. i want him to be usm doc ock bc tom kenny lol, but the personality doesn't fit much.. but it'll be hilarious so i'm keeping it.. and since it's usm doc ock i want the gunthers or gunters or whatever to be the spider slayers lmaooo. kaine would the main gunter i suppose.
i kinda want USM miles to be BMO because i love both of them,, and usm miles feels (to me) kinda like a brother to peter and BMO is pretty much considered a brother to finn and jake (i think). NEPTR is random as hell but i kinda want amadeus cho (USM) to be him, probably only as iron spider though.
ok ok now my favorite casting,, HARRY AS FLAME PRINCESS... i'm a parksborn junkie and wow their personalities and relationship match up SO well with finn and flame princess it hurts.. and yeah i know that finn and flame princess break up but UGH they fit so well, so i must deal with it. i just finished watching s4 e1 so i'm FUELED on this right now RAAAAHHHH. i did draw something and i'll post it tomorrow if i remember teehee. this harry is totally based off tasm because i LOVE his design and character and they fit flame princess more than usm harry does. also flame king is norman because that fits GREAT.
i'm also thinking, on the subject of love intrests, mary jane as huntress wizard. now this mj i haven't based off of usm (and tasm doesn't have her) so i don't really have a basis for her. BUT. her and peter are always fated to be together so she of course would be what is finn's final love interest in normal adventure time ( :,) /pos) and i also feel mj's usual design would mix well with huntress wizard's. now i want to clarify i do not remember anything because i haven't watched adventure time in YEARS and my current rewatch is only in season 4.
USM ben reilly would be fern. i don't really need to explain why. *cough* 'clone' of mc *cough*
carnage is lemongrab because of that abhorrent screeching (that phrasing could apply to either of them lol). venom might be his brother but i can't remember him at all lmao so that might change
now now now i think that eddie brock would be peppermint butler (but make peppermint butler smile less) because of his general vibe and story. but i must say, i'm talking about eddie with NO venom. i think as a candy person he would be black licorice so his design could reference venom with his colors.
fast round now, flash should be lsp, prismo could maybe be played by doctor strange (USM!!!), mysterio could be magic man because LOOLLL, martin could be peter's dad in TASM?, billy should be iron man, cinnamon bun COULD be liz allen (cause of harry) but i feel bad doing that to her, abracadaniel could be USM moon knight just for the laughs. i have NO clue who the lich should be,,due to usm lore i want goblin but norman is already flame king soooo... ultimate goblin maybe?
and that is IT for nowww. i will keep posting more about this au under #rk's spider time au, and i will be reblogging this post if i have more info teehee anyways i am insane.. ALSO also most (not all) character relationships are ignored when i pick the roles because that fucks up some stuff (like marcy and simon being close even though felicia and doc ock barely have anything to do with eachother)
#rk's spider time au#spider-man#ultimate spiderman#ultimate spider-man#spiderman#usm#adventure time#adventure time au#the amazing spiderman#parksborn#petermj#gwen x felicia#gwen x black cat

Genshin asks, 3, 5, 8, and 25? (Can be your favorite team, if your current team is something like a friendship team!)
hello hi hello dear!! oooo excellent choices 👏👏
send me genshin asks from this list!
3. top 5 favorite ships (platonic or romantic)?
1. kaeluc/luckae - look is this even news lmaoooo really though i mean this is the ship that got me into genshin, this is the ship that i've written above and beyond more fics than any other ship in genshin lmao. i love them deeply, and i always look forward to any interactions between them. mayhaps a reconciliation some day, i can dream
2. zhongchi/tartali - strangely enough i haven't written as much of this as i thought? but it is SUCH an interesting dynamic, i really love the idea of this fresh 20-something murder-happy guy falling in with a millenia-old literal god and just. like. they're in love. like. it's such an endearing ship to me? with potential for everything from soft fluff to hardcore smut, nobody is doing it like zhongchi tbh
3. chiluc - okay okay hear me out i didn't mean for this to happen but,,,,this is dabihawks. this is just. it's dabihawks. my adoration for enemies to lovers is coming to light and this is unironically now my second-most-written ship behind kaeluc. i just want them to meet in game ngl i would LOVE to see what happens but tbh if it's not the word art 'i will pound you into the floor fatui scum' childe-heart-eyes interaction then i don't want it lmao
4. chaeya and/or zhongluc - it's really a toss up depending on my mood cause sometimes i want to think abt the mischievous chaos bois with dark abyss-related pasts and sometimes i wanna think abt the soft refined gentlemen with blood on their hands and i think that's very valid of me
5. chennett - i have recently fallen into this hole i didn't really mean to be here but here i am i mean what more incredible and disastrous combo could u come up with than 'actively enjoys throwing himself into danger' and 'unintentionally generates danger everywhere he goes'. i simply think Them ur honor
5. unpopular opinions?
um. many? maybe? slkdjfklsdf i really don't know what's considered unpopular these days. i like kaeluc? i think that the cn translation is what the cn folks say it is, but i will continue to use whatever dynamic i want in fics bc that's kinda the point of fics lmao
also generally i don't care that much about like. making my characters the most incredibly badass perfectly built whatever they're supposed to be? like. i think it's hilarious that my yanfei has 1:1 crit ratio. i think dps barb would unironically be awesome. i like my characters to be fun to play but i'm not upset if they're not like,,,the most incredible dps to ever be a dps or anything. i love that my kaeya does 15k on his skill but i'm not obsessed with making it Better? (although kaeya artifact farming is my 'downtime resin' activity slfkjdjkldsf) but like. idk. i just think it's fun to make characters do all sorts of things instead of just building them as the best thing for whatever they were Actually Created For. is that unpopular idk lmao
8. what bit of lore is most interesting to you?
ahahahhaa ohhhh my god where to even START aewin pls understand i have a whOLE DOC FILLED WITH GENSHIN LORE INFO it's really just a raw dump and a lot of speculating at the moment but i really love istaroth/kairos as an entity in the game? i think she could enable a LOT of really cool theories, like the idea that perhaps kaeya was transported in time instead of just somehow being 500yrs old similar to dain (while having grown up with the ragnvindr family, so he clearly ages as far as we're told), etc etc. it could also enable my surepio = baizhu brainrot, although i'm also partial to the idea that baizhu either is or is a host for the current dendro archon (aka if changsheng is the dendro archon) ANYWAY i have so much lore in my brain at all times but istaroth is probably the current piece that i find most intriguing
25. current team?
i'll give u multiple lmao my exploration team is also my go-to damage dealing team (like if i'm encountering smth new, new domain, etc) - benny, kazoo, kaeya, and childe (zhongli and kazoo swap if i really need a durable shield)
right now my team that i built out as an evaluation team and am mostly using in open world is diona, yunjin, yanfei, and ayato! they're kind of a friendship team atm as well, since i don't think anyone is maxed, but i'm testing them out at the moment!
send me genshin asks from this list!

*off screen* I might as well make this post now before I forget...
*normal* Do you guys remember my liveblogs? If so, I'm aware that I have not been the best at keeping a consistent schedule and have ended up effectively wasting my vacation that I could've used to finish Ep: 2 of Danny Phantom (I'm still only a little over 5 minutes into that episode, oh my fucking gosh...), for example.
Now, my next school term is basically test term so I won't have a lot of time to goof around. This situation means that I don't feel comfortable watching DP (since that will obviously produce audio & I have to juggle creating posts while writing in my DP Lore doc) so I would prefer to do something silent and simple during that time. Which means that 'Adventures of the Super Sons' would get the priority when it comes to liveblogs.
Here's the main point of this post: I want to consistently read at least one page of 'Adventures of the Super Sons' and create one post in the liveblog (if I feel like mentioning anything, of course) on a Saturday. This plan will obviously change when things start getting fucking hectic and I need to reorganize some shit but that's the idea. Now there's the problem of execution.
So here is what I want you to do: remind me. Send an ask or comment on this post or do whatever else to remind me to do the liveblog if I post nothing related to it after 8 pm, AST.
My main concern is that I follow through for tomorrow and maybe next week but as soon as I miss one day or something, I would end up dropping the plan. That or I simply forget until months later. So any help in relation to maintaining a consistent schedule is greatly appreciated.
With all that out of the way, I hope you enjoyed the rest of your day! "ฅ ̳͒•ˑ̫• ̳͒ฅ
#key's post#liveblogging#<- more of an announcement/update than anything#*trying to mimic Snapcube!Eggman* EVERYBODY I'M MAKING AN ANNOUCEMENT!#*clears throat* Sorry#needed to get that out of my system#((;^_^A#umm...#*slightly unsure* Do you want some fun hug sparkles...?#゚.+(〃ノωノ)゚.+°#Okay I think I'm done now#See you guys tomorrow (hopefully)!

Do you have any advice for someone who wants to make a (very LGBTA positive) webseries of her own?.
oh boy! I sure do. I’ve actually been on a couple other projects other than Recon, all after the first season was written & mostly after the first season was shot, and ya girl has learned a lot because of and since season 1!
i am so sorry but this is going to be SO long. i am kinda obsessed with web series & digital content and it’s my actual professional career now so just… get ready. sorry 😅 i’ll add a TLDR at the end.
(p.s. this is just advice from me, Emma, and not the rest of the Recon team who may have different/additional advice, maybe someone will add on after the holidays)
write your bible before anything! depending on if you’re co-creating or just co-producing/writing, this should be done before you bring on additional folks. if you’re co-creating, this is obviously a collaborative process. when i created recon, i did it on my own. i pitched the original idea to some dear friends (one of whom makes a cameo as a security guard in ep 20!) and got their opinions, adapted from their advice, and once i had a solid format, main character, and general plot, i started on the bible. it took probably a month of fucking around before i felt ready to write a bible.
the basic components of a bible are a log line, short season overview, character breakdowns for your characters (mine are ~paragraph or two for main characters, with shorter ones for less central characters), a summary of the show’s main themes, genre and tones, and the format of the show (if you’re mapping out multiple seasons, it may be relevant to do this for each season as well as the overall show), as well as the most important part of your bible– the episode breakdowns. i’ll touch on those in a minute.
i do all my original brainstorming on paper, because i am adhd as fuck and it’s easier for me. your bible isn’t the place to brainstorm. separate them out. not saying you have to write on paper, but have a separate doc for brainstorming so the formatting for your bible can be easy to follow.
if you’re co-producing or having someone else produce your work, it makes sense to have your co-producer or producer right there with you as you work on your bible to give feedback. does this mean they’re writing it? no. is it useful as hell? yes.
my partner-in-creative-crime justice and i tend to share bibles and brainstorm docs with each other when we’re working together on a project. depending on which roles we’re playing on each project (e.g., i’m producing his podcast COSMIC under our company name but not co-creating or writing, so i mostly gave notes on his bible. we’re also working on a series called Inked, and we’re more like co-creators there, so we both write in the doc.)
your bible is the holy doc of your show; it’s what you show to any writers, producers, designers, any creative working on your show so that everyone is on the same page. it is your main reference and guiding light through the whole season; make it clear, organized, and as easy to read as possible. i personally use google docs for my bibles, and use the hell out of the outline function. highly recommend, but everyone has their own system.
break your ENTIRE story before before you write a single script, before you write your pilot, before anything. it’s part of your bible.
if you’re not super familiar with tv/screenwriting, breaking a story means figuring out the beats. the breakdown of reason s1 started as messy af writing on whiteboards, and turned into this:
this is absolutely not what your first outlines or final drafts will look like. we changed…. a ton while writing our scripts. you can see even in this sequence– episode 8 and 9 got blurred, and we barely touched on ava’s past because there wasn’t room. regardless, this doc & breakdown served as the basis for all our writers and kept us all on roughly the same page. when we disagreed, we could go back to this and sort it out from there!
find your people. two roles were crucial to me when we made recon: a mentor, and collaborators. having good people behind me was so so important; i could have never done this on my own.
i got…….. so lucky with my mentor, bernie su. he not only gave me incredible advice, read scripts, and reviewed cuts, he purchased the damn show, accounting for 75% of our funding. i feel like it’s important for me to acknowledge the luck and privilege i have here: the show would not happened without him, and i only got that chance because i live in LA, went to USC, and applied for the right job at the right time. HOWEVER, aside from the funding that made recon possible, bernie’s expertise seriously helped. after principle photography, we were left feeling lackluster, and bernie gave me advice that led me to make changes that transformed the show. having someone with experience– whether in tv, film, web series, any sort of writing– is invaluable.
while i created recon on my own, i did not develop or make it on my own. the episode breakdowns? half me, half other people (mainly justice lol). the look of the show? EP/DP christa, production designer amanda, graphic designer hal, and justice as costuming lead. i did not write season 1 on my own. i recruited friends from USC and even one from high school to write episodes i didn’t think i could do justice (no pun intended).
once you’ve found your people, trust them. there will obviously be cases where you disagree enough with someone’s creative opinions that you shouldn’t, but except in extreme cases, trust your people. try to only chose people you trust in the first place. letting go was so so so hard, but many of the best parts of recon happened because i got over myself and trusted my cast and crew. episode 16, player vs player, was justice’s baby, and i almost didn’t let him roll with the animations because i was too nervous. holy fuck, i’m so glad i trusted him. same with reflections (ep 15), written by my now-fiancé, which no one else could have written. hal was a bit unsure going in, but the episode is phenomenal. my production designer’s choices were amazing, and i had little to do with them other than being like “yes that is so cool let’s do it”
seriously. trust your people. watching bernie on artificial & emma approved trust us, his crew of mostly 20-somethings, with creative decisions taught me a huge lesson. i was 19 when he hired me, 19 when he bought the show, and he actually fucking trusted me and the rest of his team to do things. my initial reaction was what the fuck, but it worked. it also let him focus on the big picture while giving us the space we needed to feel creatively and emotionally fulfilled. trust your people.
this also applies to your actors. we had a google drive specifically for our actors to throw up ideas/backstory for their characters, and we’d read through it and give feedback and contributions. it led to better performances and characters with more depth. we also met with actors where we could to discuss their ideas for directions for their characters– video game nerd taylor came from convos with joré.
katiemichal and kat were just like, the same people as their characters, so there was less of this, but there is definitely value in casting the irl versions of your characters as them.
edit your episodes individually, then read through the WHOLE SEASON at once to edit. repeat that until you read it and it’s cohesive.
keep track of your timeline and your canon, even canon that’s not explicit in the show. there’s so much recon lore that we kept to ourselves that informs several decisions in the first season.
unless your character’s race/ethnicity (even gender) is a key part of their character or the show, cast with an open net. ava was originally a white girl name jody. ana, the actress who played her, originally auditioned for riley, and we changed the character’s entire backstory for her, which added an amazing dimension to the show we get to see in reflections (and an upcoming podcast shh). lesson fucking learned on my part– almost too late. don’t be like me.
ren, on the other hand, we were 100% sure was non-binary, and although we opened auditions to all genders, we specified from the start it was a non-binary character and we’d give priority to queer/nb actors. it was the right choice.
PRODUCTION DESIGN IS FUCKING IMPORTANT. cinematography is great, and we obviously focused on it a lot w the style of our show, but PD tells so much of your story without saying a word or taking up a second of airtime.
sound is the single most important thing on set. you can make an ugly shot work, ugly sound will bring people immediately out of the show and possibly abandon it. we fucked up scheduling for Punching Bag, and had to delay its release (it was originally episode 13, not 14), hire a sound editor, and put a goddamn disclaimer on it because we didn’t have time to get good sound because of our own mistakes. arguably my biggest regret of the season, because the script and acting for that episode is so good, and we low-key ruined it. GET GOOD SOUND.
only exception to this is probably coverage and continuity; although those can be fudged a lil more. get a script supervisor or have your AD do it so you don’t miss anything crucial. always get your masters first.
schedule more than you think you should. like, down to the 15-minute block. it won’t work, but it will work worse if you don’t. do your best to stay on schedule (hint: AD/producer on set)
trust your gut. this is your baby, and your choices should service the story you want to tell. let that be your north star, and while you should let your story evolve with time and the contributions of your cast and crew,
TL;DR: write your bible & break your season first. find a team you trust, and trust them with their choices (both cast & crew). if you can, find a mentor/someone with experience to give advice. edit your show both as individual episodes and as a whole season, multiple times. continuity is crucial, backstory is crucial, coverage is crucial, scheduling is crucial. GET GOOD SOUND. and always keep sight of the story you want to tell.
i am so sorry. this is a fucking essay.

Ok, someone in the Fic Request Block said "yes, I want this" for my Baby Lover Sherlock AU.
And me talking about Kurt and FINALLY getting around to watching the X-Men movies has resparked my desire to write enby/genderqueer pansexual shapeshifter Kurt. And idk how to start it.
Maybe that Kodd OC time-travels-to-canon-era and causes shenanigans one. Anyone interested in getting the Google Docs link for it/them and ACTUALLY writing down the story for me/us? If you dp, you might reach a point where I'd butt it to add more stuff of my own.
I already have a bit of experience in writing they/them pronoun-people, and shapeshifting, so if somebody who can write out pans-ness properly is interested, plz PM me for the link! I already have a lotta background lore for both up! That's good/great foundation to build from!

P & Q
P: How much do you plan in advance versus letting the story unfold as you go?
Story-wise, ends and general events are always planned early on (All 130 Prompts, most of Identity Theft, Hawthorn Haven, Little Imperfections, No Anesthetic, Factor It In, Devil’s Backbone, and so on are already planned even though I won’t be posting some of these things for years), so it’s just a matter of doing the actual writing. Beginnings come next and middles come last.
For me, writing is a matter of saying, “Here is my destination. Where are we coming from and how do we get there?” Depending on what I’m writing, sometimes where I’m coming from is the previous chapter, sometimes it’s a specific point in my timeline. Chapters don’t require a lot of set-up because readers should more or less remember what’s recently happened to a character, but with one-shots I have to clarify not only the setting, but recent events as best as I can. There’s a different mindset there.
Origin, Knots, and the Prompts are divided into over a hundred different files in Google Docs, so I can’t give an accurate word count, but I probably have 200k words on hand for both Origin and Knots and at least 300k for the Prompts. I wrote scenes I consider significant early on and I’m working my way towards them, correcting inconsistencies along the way.
What I plan worldbuilding-wise for a fantasy series is another topic altogether (Expanded on below the cut).
Sociopolitical Aspects
For my Mario works, for example, the first thing planned was how the Koopa Kingdom is laid out, and where the Koopalings fit into my ideas. Then it was a matter of deciding which parts of canon I want to draw from and what I want to do with it. I didn’t rule out the new kingdoms revealed in Odyssey, but I definitely didn’t erase Sarasaland and the Beanbean Kingdom either. I worked out the political systems of a few countries, what the social norms and big crimes are, and the basics of Bowser’s inclination towards violence.
I have a document noting what the people of each land are called and what their native languages are so I don’t have to worry about contradicting myself later, which has been extremely useful. I even determined populations for different kingdoms, with the Mushroom Kingdom at about 235 million people, the Koopa Kingdom almost twice that, and the Beanbean Kingdom a measly 4 million. Even if this info never comes up in story, it helps me understand how people interact with one another and fit into this system.
In my FOP works, I worked out the history of Fairy/Anti-Fairy conflicts, drawing from aspects of canon such as the known war over human godchildren. The Pixies fit in there too as the neutral party. Then there’s the matter of fitting in the aliens and humans. Deeper yet, the Ghosts and Beasts. Figuring out the international relationships up front works best for me, and then I can later determine how characters with this background interact in this environment.
In my Danny Phantom works, I drew from a comment Butch made once that although King Pariah was a tyrant, he did keep the Ghost Zone organized and it’s fallen to chaos since he was overthrown. I worked out Ghost-Skeleton relations, how the Observants play into things, and what the space within the world might be like.
In my WordGirl works, determining how Hexagon functions was crucial to what I decided to do with Kid Math: In this case, his planet is obsessed with math to the point they only have spoken language, not a written one. They use numbers and mark up blueprints, but written language is for the Lexiconians [Insert snobby scoffing].
When writing Rhyme and Reason backstory, I worked out how common powers are, how those with certain powers are treated by society, what kind of education kids with powers get pushed towards, what laws might exist, how many heroes there might be, and how police involvement works in cities that have heroes. In this alternate world, there are things called charm schools that are “finishing schools” for kids with powers, and Rhyme was almost sent to one until she ran away.
Physical Aspects
I made the Mushroom Kingdom an archipelago and chose Indonesia as my main inspiration country, researching the climate, seasons, plants, and meals typically found there. I know exactly when the dry season ends and the wet season starts and how this affects the Piranha Plants.
In FOP, I understand the landscapes of Fairy World and Anti-Fairy World, what kinds of mountains and water features they can have, and the flora and fauna found in each location. I know ways to move between locations, what travel is possible with magic, and what happens in times there isn’t any magic. I know what the major buildings are, where they are, and what they do.
In my DP works, there are certain stable parts of the Ghost Zone and certain unstable parts. It’s easy to get lost if you’re new there and not used to things moving around, but as you learn the rules of the world, you’re able to identify landmarks. I know which populations live where and what those landscapes are like. I came up with rules for how lairs work and how far things can move about the Zone. I know how things work and which characters know X amount of information about their surroundings.
Cultural Aspects
I pored over a LOT of small details in canon for my Mario works. I took painstaking notes about the Soybean civilization, the ancient Luffs, the fallen Bask Kingdom, and all sorts of historical tidbits and worked those into modern canon. Some stuff didn’t cross my path during my personal gameplay, but I like knowing about it anyhow.
I considered Peach’s pathway to becoming queen and how she fits her role, especially compared to her predecessors. I made stars important in Mushroom Kingdom culture and the moon important in Koopa culture. I created lore for why karting exists, canonizing all locations and the general idea of kart racing even if I’m not going to make every kart track canon or organize each game in a timeline.
FOP worldbuilding involved gathering as much canon from the show as possible, collecting info from folklore, plucking bits and pieces from insect and bat biology, and marrying the three together. It was important to me to give Fairy World a distinct culture different from any on Earth, and really examine how magic affects daily life in this world.
Anthropomorphizing insect behaviors gave me Fairies who lick faces as a form of greeting and who favor those with freckles above those without. Not exactly accurate to show canon, but it works great. Gyne and drone relationships have been fun to build, and I made sure my timeline included points in the past where such relations were different than modern times. Changes in relationships over time is something that really fascinates me.
Anti-Fairy World also gets a unique culture. Since they’re evil antagonists in show canon, I certainly didn’t want to race-code them like any group of people on Earth. I’ve tried to design them their own culture, heavily inspired by bats and a belief in luck above all. Bats aren’t sociosexual, but they are promiscuous, so I don’t stick wholly to bat behaviors either: they’re partially based on bonobos. Most importantly, I made sure everything I did was fun for me to write.
With my particular writing style, it works to have deep, complex culture for the Anti-Fairies. If I wanted to write short, lighthearted pieces, that would impact where my worldbuilding priorities lay (Probably lots of cute holiday traditions and less focus on why Anti-Fairy culture revolves around causing others harm).
General Research
Heights, timelines, food, and clothes are all things I settle as soon as possible, and I keep ref sheets on hand so I can fact check myself at a glance. Fairies and Anti-Fairies, being a species who live in the clouds, have easier access to silkworms than cotton plants. That determines what their clothing is made of, what products are expensive, and what gets worn on certain occasions.
I draw from canon where possible, using screenshots or known character heights (Mario canonically 5′1″) and comparing them to others. Being of a different height can impact how others view you. Dining etiquette is a fun cultural difference that can create conversation or social awkwardness and really set the mood.
With fanfics, I dig as deep as I can. Did you know Wario canonically doesn’t know how old he is because his mom never threw him a birthday party? Or that he keeps a matchbox of ants in his cabinet and is “waiting until they worship him as a god”? I drink details like this by the gallon.
I prefer nailing this stuff down before getting far in my writing because that’s what works for me personally. I worldbuild further over time as I think up new questions I didn’t already have answers for.
Unique Aspects
Magic systems are complex. They generally take me longest and are more work than play. I like to have an outline of how a magic system works, write the story, figure out what I absolutely need magic to do and what I don’t want it to do, and then tighten the system during the revision process. For example, I weakened shapeshifting in my FOP works so you can’t easily hold another form while aroused- I personally didn’t want age changes to be involved in lovemaking. That expanded to making it hard to hold a form when you’re drunk too.
It was important to me in my Mario works to have 1-Up mushrooms exist and be capable of saving your life, but I also needed a reason why people don’t walk around with 99 lives and consume 1-Ups at all times. After wrestling with plans for a while, I decided to make them time-sensitive. You have to consume them often to have more than one life on a regular basis, and they’re pretty rare. As long as I can justify why someone has access to this rare item, I can utilize a 1-Up’s power, but I can also justify killing someone off if enough time has passed since they last consumed one.
With Fairly OddParents, I’d seen enough episodes to understand the basics of wishes, magical backup, and Da Rules. When I became serious about writing FOP ‘fics, I started noting the times Cosmo and Wanda failed to use magic for reasons other than Da Rules (Not in sync with each other, low battery, lack of belief in magic, Big Wand toppled over, etc.) and built my version of the FOP magic system to accommodate as many of these “inconsistencies” as I could. My take on magic is complex, but I can stretch the system many ways, so it works great for me.
Will I use everything I’ve worldbuilt in story? I might not say it directly, but having a pool of information I can draw from helps me find ways to flesh out a character’s life. Some stuff makes it in, other stuff is only vaguely glimpsed. To me, diving into worldbuilding is fun. Taking what I have and creating something with it is even more fun. I could whip out a bunch of one-shots about basic slice-of-life events without doing all this work, but tying my stories to social, political, or culture aspects of the world is what I really enjoy.
Q: Do you have any discarded scenes/storylines/projects?
//Laughs
I don’t like deleting things, so I move them to scrap docs instead. Origin, Knots, and the 130 Prompts each have a scrap file of 50+ pages (91 pages of scrapped Prompt scenes) and I can usually remember keywords so the deleted scenes are easy to search for if I need them. Some get recycled, even back into the same chapter I originally deleted them from, but a lot stay dead because they were either irrelevant or inconsistent with the final material.
Fortunately for me, I have a good memory of what I kept vs. what I scrapped. I’ve compiled some favorites in my deviantArt Sta.sh and linked them in my FOP sideblog because they’re my version of sketchdumps. Even if they’re unfinished, I still think they’re interesting to look at.
For some reason I don’t delete much from my standalone one-shots, just my multi-chapter stuff. Most of what enters my standalones survives.
The projects I’m most hurt to have left hanging are my Total Drama stories The Beatin’ Path and Lions Under Palm Trees, keeping with my tradition of writing stories about eliminated contestants at that season’s elimination location from the perspective of the first character eliminated. I have a good 15k words written for the former and 25k for the latter, and I just… let them slip through my fingers in favor of Fairly OddParents years ago.
Arguably letting them go is for the best because I took the “cartoon physics are canon” concept and RAN with it, so I have an entire plot arc about one character coming into puberty and having his ability to utilize cartoon physics switch on for the first time. I personally consider Lions one of my best works in terms of matching my niche interests, but the acknowledgement of cartoon physics does stray from Total Drama canon, and I just couldn’t get over that enough to keep posting it.
Some of my all-time favorite scenes and characterizations are in these stories. I’m glad I have what I do for myself because these works make me smile even all these years later, buuut it’s probably best if I keep most of this nonsense private. This is probably my favorite snippet of the entire Lions draft, though:
“What’s in the box?”
Don’t say the hearts of small animals, don’t say the hearts of small animals.
“Stuff for my girlfriend.” It wasn’t untrue.
The least loved always end up my favorites somehow. I’m still so in love with my delusional wizard. I honestly might love Leonard more than I love any of the FOP characters I write about nowadays; he was the best I ever had. I mean, look at this FREAKING CHILD-
====
“Hand me my dice.”
Beardo dropped the dice in his hand. Leonard rolled them across the grass. Nine. He groaned. But, obediently, he knelt and poked his head inside the damaged zeppelin.
“Roll me an observance check.”
“Snake eyes.”
“Seriously? It’s dark. Try again. Higher this time.”
Beardo gave the dice another toss. “Lucky lucky seven.”
Leonard let out a high whistle between his front teeth. “No response,” he said after a moment. “I don’t think there are any animals down there, except maybe a few rats and some bugs. All right, I’m jumping down. Keep an eye on my back.”
He slid through the gap and dropped out of sight. Beardo heard him say, “Lux up,” and click the penlight on his keychain.
====
“Incriminatus, television.”
No reaction.
“Incriminatus, television.”
No reaction. The Christmas advertisements blared on. Leonard raised his wand to his eye, then slapped the tip a few times against his palm. “Come on, wand. Tammy isn’t here anymore. Why aren’t you working? I still believe in you.”
The door eased open. “Hey, Leonard,” Jen said in a voice of false cheerfulness. “I got your toothbrush out of… the other room.”
Leonard didn’t try to switch off the TV and faced the window instead. “Brushing teeth is for people who can’t do it with magic.”
====
“Wait.” Leonard raised both hands above his head, squeezing his eyelids tight. “Wait. What you’re saying is, Scarlett pulled a Courtney to the extreme and hid her secret identity as an ‘evil’ mastermind supervillain shaman queen this entire time. She played a character so well that even her closest friend – not to mention Chris – couldn’t see through her act until she chose to reveal herself. At which point she then convinced everyone that she was actually said ‘evil’ mastermind supervillain. You’re telling me there was a LARPing goddess in my presence, and I completely missed it.”
“I didn’t put it in those words for a reason,” Jasmine said, “but at its core, yes.”
Leonard pressed his hands to his cheeks and stared into his salad. “Holy flipping plot twist. I am so turned on right now.”
“No,” Jasmine said, jabbing him in the chest with one finger, “No you are not.”
Amy clicked her tongue. “Leonard, you have a girlfriend.”
“Not anymore. That’s it. I’m breaking up with Tammy for real this time.”
Beardo slapped him on the back of the head and made a sound like a police siren.

One Lions chapter was named “Baa Baa Blackmail” if that tells you anything. Ah, memories… It’s probably for the best if these projects stay retired, but I love them so very much.

Blue = Danny
Purple = Sam
