Okay uh so-

I've never interacted with you before so I hope this ain't too weird.

So I discovered RubyDragonQueen's/Dragoninthelabratory's drabble book on AO3. And I was like "oh shit there's a whole Tumblr thread for this?" And then I read the entire Tumblr thread and realized there was an ENTIRE MASTER LIST- full of cool Jjba Aus and whatnot and then I got way too invested into reading them and this is the result of that.

I wanted to do more for multiple Au's but I didn't have the time 😭.

Anyway here's a bunch of doodles I did for Early Bird Au NSNNSND. (Click for better quality)

I'm not a fan of bridging Genshin and Honkai, but the authors seem to be doing it anyway, so... blame Hoyo for this post.

tl;dr of Honkai lore

At the core of Honkai's cosmogony are two concepts. The Imaginary Tree — a tree of branching parallel universes, each twig of which is a timeline and each leaf a world. And The Sea of Quanta — a boundless place of entropy and chaos from which the Imaginary tree spawned.

Order and chaos, basically. They exist in constant conflict, the tree tries to consume the sea of quanta and the sea tries to flood and dissolve the tree.

When a world fails to persist it can "fall" from the tree into the sea of quanta, becoming an unstable fragmented version of itself called a bubble universe. A shadow of a proper world. Such a universe is eventually dissolved in the sea.

Bubbles universes can also be artificially created or spawned from someone's memories. Either way they are unstable. If I recall correctly, Genshin was confirmed to be a bubble universe in a Honkai 3rd easter egg.

Ether Anchors

There's a technology allowing to extend a bubble universe's lifespan, is called an Ether Anchor. An Ether Anchor holds together fragments of a bubble universe that follow a fixed set of laws.

It seems to be more of a place/space anomaly than an object (“a topological formation that exists between the dimensional manifolds”), if I understood Durandal's and Roland's lore correctly, but also can take the form of an object, if honkai wiki is to be believed.

(I think space anomalies are anchor points, not the anchor itself? the places where it sews fragments of reality together. I'm still figuring this part out)

I think there was a guy in Genshin who constantly talks about turning himself into a weapon. I can't quite remember his name though...

Another property of the Ether Anchor is that it allows bubble universes to interact with one another. 

Or maybe not exactly different bubble universes but rather fragments of the same bubble universe (or, since we are in a multiverse, these could be the same thing)?

Ok, this is getting too long and no one reads long posts. Maybe I'll continue in a separate post later. There are still the topics of the Abyss (and why it's not The Sea of Quanta), Descenders, whether the anchors need to be sustained in some way, Tsaritsa's goals, why does everyone who has seen the Abyss speaks of ultimate injustice, Alice and Hexenzirkel in general, what is Irminsul exactly, and, of course, Childe, why Childe's promise of a battle at the edge of the universe is more important than it might seem, what are world cycles, and why Childe's part of 4.2 story sucked so much (I now have a Lore Explanation. or maybe a copium overdose. probably both).

For now I'm calling it though. Whatever Khaenri'ahns messed up, it had to do something with Teyvat's Aether Anchor.

Can I just say, the Bas-Lag series by China Mieville is a criminally underrated series of fantasy books. I’ll see people complain about fantasy literature being stale and I lose my mind because Perdido Street Station is just sitting there, waiting.

Waiting for you to read about a corrupt, decaying steampunk city, a spider with human hands who likes scissors, moths that shit nightmares, and the tender romance between a scientist and his girlfriend who has a bug for a head.

Okay so here is my kind of DEFINITIVE GOOD! UTHER DOUL THEORY (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH DEFINIVITVE BAD! UTHER DOUL READING WHICH IS PROBABLY COMING) post which 1. I'd love ideas/comments on and 2. Hopefully focus my mind on what I'd like to write about him

Uther Doul is a very, very sad man. Bellis is right when she thinks he is tinged by some tradegy, however the tradegies that haunt him haven't actually happened to this Uther Doul.

Before the events of the Scar, I picture him more of a clear cut swashbuckling hero type. He went on adventures, he took the lead and saved the day, he seduced the Brucolac. It was all coming up Doul. He was always a brilliant scholar and determined to find as many Ghosthead artifacts as he could, especially after getting his hands on the possible sword and seeing how powerful it is.

When he first found the prehapsicord, he found a way to use it to witness other probabilities. He has seen friends and lovers die, multiple versions of himself being killed repeatedly, Armada sink to the bottom of the sea (and knowing the Baslag trilogy, when they die, its real fucking horrific). Seeing how tenuous life is, how easily anyone he has ever loved or cared about could be killed, it has paralysed him. Doul is 1000% loyal to Armada, not any particular set of leaders but the city itself, as the place he ran to after fleeing High Cromlech. So he makes a choice. He is going to always choose the greatest good over his own, individual happiness and needs. As the absolute tank he is in battle, this has meant that he does routinely choose to keep himself alive for the good of Armada, but when it comes to friendships, desires, longings, he has always put the city first. He is constantly walking a tightrope of what the instrument tells him will happen to the city and ensuring that events fall into place that steer it towards the greatest happiness for the greatest number. He calls off his relationship with the Brucolac. He stops being the one to stand up and take control of more political wranglings because the pressure is just too great for him.

He's a very sad Utilitarian. That is why he mocks Bellis when putting her in the prison cell. To him, he has sacrificed EVERYTHING to ensure the safety of the city. That is also why he lets the Brucolac get tortured for days on end. Though he still cares deeply for him, he has seen that if he didn't let that happen, the city would not be saved from the Scar (or some other bad thing would happen) so he weighed up his versus the cities' happiness and let his ex burn.

BTW I know that the end says he goes to visit the Brucolac in the night, but I cannot envisage this being anything other than Doul chucking stones at his window, begging him to take him back. The Brucolac is down bad for him, but he's got fucking self respect, and that must have been humiliating.

I don't think Doul views any of his actions in the course of the novel as manipulations, rather 'guiding' people and events into existence. I think he was genuinely attracted to Bellis and she was right to think that he was, prehaps, going to kiss her at certain moments. Another Doul would have, but this one is so consumed with the possible reactions from any one action, that he couldn't possibly take that risk. He is not 'done with her' at the end because his machinations are complete, he's done with her because she has proven herself to be disloyal to Armada. She is not willing to sacrifice herself in any way for the good of the many. (Maybe in other possibilities Bellis is? Maybe he's gutted because this Bellis is not the Bellis he had hoped?)

At the end, when the female Lover rides off to the Scar by herself, he gives the perhapsicord to her. He has tried numerous times to stop using it, to stop seeing every possible consequence of every action, but it's like he's addicted. But the events of the Scar have just been too much. He has decided to try to get back to a more normal way of living.
