Double the Money on Channel 4

The lovely Sue Perkins invites some friends round, and gives them £250. Week by week, she asks them to double the money.

Start a small business, sell stuff in a few days, and turn that £250 into £500. It'll help not to drop your tray of drinks.

And it'll help not to be in the wettest June since the invention of the pluviometer.

As the rounds progress, any team that doesn't double the money is cut from the competition. It's a bit like The 1% Club, the same teams turn up week after week and we get to know them better as the shows progress.

The producers wanted to make a show that was about business plans, and also about personal stories. As the rounds progress, we're drawn in by the people, the stories and the little dramas they play out.

We work out who wears the pants in this relationship, who has a meeting of equal minds. Who has the ideas, who gets their hands dirty. Who thinks they can swan through life with little effort, and who might only be here to boost their social media even higher?

Can this couple revive their mojito delivery service? Can that couple sell enough lemonade to cars stuck in a traffic jam because the road's flooded?

Sperkins' voiceover is factual and a bit snarky. She pops along to some of the businesses, mostly those where she might get a free lunch.

Double the Money is a fun show, impressed much more than I expected to.
