I haven't felt like that since the night of BitterSweet Chapter 3 | Reunions & Reckonings pt. 10

Sooo i have a theory. I might know what Withered Finn is. This will be chaotic but stay with me.

But first lets take a look at this beautiful man.

How do i say this without sounding like a thirsty bitch?... He is covered from head to toe. No Finn has never been this covered before. What is he hiding there? ...Secrets!

With his pale hair he looks ghastly compared to wibrent blond of other Finns.

You can see that under does gorgeous hair there is a difference in texture on his face. That might be a long scar but i think is some kind of root or a vine.

Got all of that? Great! Now we will take a detour thru the patch of my knowledge that's dedicated to things that look exactly like someone but they aren't them.

Of Course we have here doppelgangers, not them, mimics, dopplers but between all of this one grab my atencion.

A Fetch

A fetch is a supernatural double or an apparition of a living person.

In his Withered design he is dressed very modern and is talking to Aauron. So we can assume that he exist in the same reality as Bittersweet.

To my understanding reality of Bittersweet is the next step after your live in Evalas....But Source!Finn is alive in Evalas.

So what's Withered!Finn? An echo. Pieces of Source!Finn that he leaves behind after his visits.

So it's just that? A ghost? That's all you have?

NO!

The etymology of fetch is obscure and the origin of the term is unknown. It may derive from the verb "fetch"; the compound "fetch-life", evidently referring to a psychopomp who "fetches" the souls of the dying, is attested in Richard Stanyhurst's 1583 translation of the Aeneid and the first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary suggested this usage may indicate the origin of the term fetch.

I might not know what is going on, but i know that souls hold some kind of power in this universe (unless that has been retconned ) And Withered!Finn is definitely doing something with them.

and turns into a group of twigs in the shape of a girl tied with ribbon!

In case i'm not making myself clear enough. Withered!Finn is an gastly echo, apparition of a Source!Finn in a place where the souls go to start again made of vines roots and sticks hold together in a shape of human by his sluttly litte vest!

Raptorians Overview

This is a supplemental document from Dr. Doppler's Field Report. Mature researchers only.

What can be said about Raptorians that hasn’t been said in works such as Mimicry and Me: So Your Voice Has Been Stolen?, Out of this World Fashion and the controversial One Flew Over The Raptorian’s Nest? Hailing from Raptoria, they entered the galactic fold a decade after the establishment of NOX and the end of the Military Age, citing “We weren’t sure about all the war, but if you’re going to relax now we’ll talk.”

While some might call the general disposition of raptorians “cocky” and “vain,” they prefer “proud” and “worth it.” Xenosapients that are easily overwhelmed by colors and loud sounds should stay clear of Raptorian territory. If that doesn’t describe you, however, it is highly recommended to visit during any of their festivals and celebrations for a rich sensory experience. As long as it isn’t Ovumtide. 

Homeworld - Raptoria

Called the gem of the Garuda system, Raptoria is a temperate planet that orbits an A-class star. Dominated by oceans, waterways, and marshes, its extreme habitats are limited to its polar ice caps and deep ocean trenches.

The planet’s rings are important to the raptorian people, not just as an awe-inspiring skymark that makes afternoon walks more pleasant, but religiously too. The predominant religion believes that the rings are remnants of the Egg Mother when she hatched from her own shell. We now know it to be the leftovers of what used to be Raptoria’s only moon. 

Colony - Raptova

Called the diamond in the rough of the Phoenix system, Raptova by contrast is an arid mono-continental planet that orbits a similar blue main sequence star as Raptoria. It’s shared with the Scorpian people who live in the inland deserts. The settlement was brokered by NOX, to allow separatist Raptorians a safe place to self-govern.

Biology

Raptorians are warm-blooded, feathered bipeds. On top of their heads are erectile feathers that act as a way to focus in on sound, like a satellite dish. Their limbs end with black scaly webbed claws, the webbing having receded as they evolved to inland life. In their thick necks is an incredibly developed syrinx that allows unparalleled mimicry.

It’s believed that raptorians originated as coastal predators, before gradually moving inland. They retained the slight webbing between their claws and their waterproof feathers, which doubled as an important way to retain heat during the cold months, which were extreme. 

Ancient Raptoria’s weather wasn’t the only cycle that shaped raptorian evolution. An aspect that’s unique to Raptorians are their estrous cycles. While xenos that go into heat will have these cycles last a week or three, Raptorians let loose for only one night of the year. The short window to breed causes Raptorians to endure a massive influx of hormones. While not as bad as the Kovlins, who go into self-described “sex madness” when in heat, Raptorians are on the lower end of the spectrum of lucidity during their cycle. 

But why go about breeding like this? If we look at the daily life of an ancient raptorian, it becomes clearer. Half of the year an ancient raptorian had to stay clear of cyclones and lightning, and the other half blizzards and hail.  The hostile weather conditions of the past only allowed for a very narrow time of the year in which looking for mates wasn’t a death sentence. For the rest of the year they only had a limited amount of time during the day where they could safely hunt. 

But raptorians weren’t the only ones hunting. Other environmental factors such as ancient predators trying to off any competition in gathering scarce resources could have had an impact on when ancient Raptorians felt it was safe to breed. 

However, none of this explains why multiple partners are encouraged during ovumtide. Were they promiscuous? And why is their fertility rate so low? Were they shooting blanks? The answer to both of those may lie in a retrovirus that seemed to have plagued Raptorians at the time. Whatever mutations it introduced were combated by this new way of breeding and raptorian researchers believe genetic variety was the only thing that could ensure the safety of their species, and mating annually.  

And as one can expect from a species only able to have sex once a year, they party like their lives depend on it. Multiple partners are expected in what most of the galaxy calls “the largest communal orgy in the Milky Way.” The Raptorians named that night Ovumtide, and it remains their most important spiritual and social event. 

Other than the pomp and circumstance, Ovumtide has the usual mating ritual aspects, such as decorating your breeding grounds and flaunting your assets, but also includes something Raptorians hold dear even today; pageantry.

Pigmentation and feather patterns can be drastically different after centuries of intercontinental movement and different habitats. Raptorians are able to change the color of their feathers either with topical dyes, or a diet focused on certain compounds, such as the carotenoids in their seafood heavy diets. Blue and pink shrimps are popular choices for their wide range of hues, and due to the effort of committing to a diet for an entire year, are considered the classier choice. For the raptorian that wants to impress a mate during Ovumtide, a concentrated effort must be put into eating a singular natural pigment, so that their coat can coordinate with their Ovumtide outfit.

And like last year's fashion, they molt their feathers once Ovumtide ends, to begin styling for next year’s festivities.

Gender

Raptorians have two genders, flume and auct, which roughly translates to egg layer and soul giver respectively. However, despite the etymology, sex has been decoupled from gender for most of Raptorian history. Sapients that hail from cultures with a male/female gender binary often make the mistake of assuming aucts are men and flumes are women, mostly due to universal translators giving them masculine and feminine pronouns. Rather, it relates to their relationship with community and society at large.

Put simply: aucts top, and flumes bottom.

Raptorian society is heavily influenced by dyads. The shell and the yolk, the feather and the talon, and so on. Balance between flumes and aucts is a crucial aspect to a functioning raptorian community. 

Work is divided by “talon” and “nest” and is defined by what is being manipulated. If a physical object is manipulated then its “talon” work, like moving cargo, crafting incubators, or repairing power lines. If what’s being manipulated isn’t real, like keeping ledgers, coding programs, or reading the voltage outputs on factory machines, then it’s “nest” work. The balance of this work is meticulously maintained, and if there aren’t enough flumes, aucts will change to better help the group in nest work. Likewise, if there aren’t enough aucts, flumes will do more heavy lifting. These expectations aren’t just societal, but biological as well. 

In a form of phenotypic plasticity, a lack of aucts or flumes will cause some from the majority to undergo hormonal changes. Muscle mass is gained when filling the role of an auct, while pattern recognition and eyesight improves for those that become flumes. What triggers these changes isn’t well known, but well documented. In one case study a group of aucts were sent to a research outpost in the polar ammonia lakes.  Due to unforeseen events, the all-auct team was forced to bunker down at the outpost for a year. Half of them lost 40% of muscle mass without a negative impact on their health, and gained improved hand eye coordination. During ovumtide they were accommodating. 

Another instance of this phenomenon occurred in a production town that specialized in leather and steel crafts. The assignment computer glitched out and filled the town with primarily flumes. In a short amount of time nearly half of them traded their stored fat for a high amount of muscle bulk in their arms and chest. Ovumtide wasn’t an issue for the town residents thanks to production tool crafting access. 

Because of this biological phenomenon, Raptoria’s governments and religions believe in what the body says rather than the mind piloting it. This became the cause for the mass exodus to Raptova—the belief that gender shouldn’t exist for the purposes of society, but rather the individual. 

The separatists believed that just because someone was physically an auct didn’t mean they wanted to do manual labor all day, or fill someone during ovumtide. Some were physically flumes, but spiritually aucts, and even without the added muscle mass could help their community like any ‘Talon Man’.

On the separatist colony world of Raptova, a third unnamed gender arose. It was reserved for the Ovumarch, the leaders and guides of this new world. They act as both auct and flume as a way to say all forms of identity were welcome, as well as a way to see from the perspective of both sides. Physically, their bodies will still undergo the changes that will occur naturally.

Kate gave the radar feed on her tablet a double-take. She’d been poring over research, engrossed in the different properties of polymers similar to sodium polyacrylate that would be, in theory, less detrimental to the environment but still able to tame a tornado. Suddenly, it was three hours later than when she’d started and her stomach was grumbling. Ignoring her hunger, she took the tablet in hand, pinching to zoom in on the area over Sapulpa. “Shit,” she swore under her breath.

At the workstation across from hers, Tyler didn’t hear her, engrossed in editing yet another video for the Tornado Wranglers channel. They were alone in the barn, their unofficial headquarters, at least for the rest of the season. 

Cathy was in Tulsa overnight, visiting Kate’s aunt and uncle. Lily and Boone had gone on a supply run. Javi, Dexter and Dani were out scouting for a new home base, one they could use as a proper office and accommodations during storm season, closer to the university over in Muskogee. Her mom insisted she was happy to have them at the farm, but there were at least one too few bathrooms for eight people to stay there at a time, even if the barn provided convenient storage for all their materials and half the Wranglers were willing to sleep out in the RV. Besides, Kate would be back in Muskogee with the start of the fall semester, working on her Ph.D again. 

“Tyler,” Kate said, eyes still on the Doppler. No answer. He bopped his head along to whatever music they were using for this episode, olive green eyes crinkled at the edges with pleasure, lips clamped together in a smile Kate was beginning to associate with Tyler seeing something he really liked. “Tyler.” Swatting away the flicker of affection, she grabbed for something to get his attention with and ended up launching an empty soda bottle over his shoulder. 

“Huh?” He clicked to pause the replay and pulled his giant headphones off of one ear. “Did you need something, Sapulpa?” She couldn’t be sure if the little flip her stomach did was nerves from the storm she was looking at or hearing him use that nickname.

Heya everybody! I'm not sure where the thought for this came from but I wanted to make a post that just has all of my OCs' refs in it in case anyone ever needs to find them and doesn't wanna ask me for them (which ur always welcome to do btw!) or doesn't wanna go digging through their Toyhouse galleries. This will be linked in my pinned post as well, so if you ever need to find it again, it'll be there! Every character will have their Toyhouse page linked below their ref, so you'll have easy access to more in-depth info and more gallery images if needed!

All the refs are below the read more since this is going to be a really long post, so be prepared for that if you take a look lol. the soft, rhythmic beeping of the doppler was normally soothing to abel but today it was a source of annoyance. forcasts had dictated there would be scattered and severe storms, yet there was nothing but clear skies so far. "anything yet?" he asked whitney, looking over from where he was double checking battery packs for cameras and other gadgets, making sure they were fully charged. "i'm starting to think meteorologists are just made up positions and they just guess what the weather's going to be." there was a partial tease in there knowing her background, but the rest was pure frustration.

This one girl was in with her bearded dragon that may have already been dead so i ran out to the lobby with the Doppler to do a life check the second she came in and she was like can you please not do that in the lobby? And I was like ok… you said your pet may be dead?? But follow me to a room immediately and then did the life check in the room. It was 100% dead and definitely died like either during the 1.5 hour drive she had to the hospital bc we’re the only exotic animal hospital in many miles that’s open full hours but also actually decent that’s open on Saturdays smh… she was heartbroken and was so emotional and not realizing how her energy was coming off at first but was totally understandable considering the situation until I started talking to her more and getting more info about the dragon, she got so much kinder and explained that it was her first ever pet and she’s just processing the mourning and loss of life for the first time, so was really empathetic to her especially bc she got it to a double digit age as a first time pet and first time reptile owner which is massively impressive tbh she really did try to find out what was wrong with it for months too and we didn’t have medical records from the other vets so we can’t verify what she did and didn’t do tbh. Story she told us was that she was taking her to a local vet near her that said they’d see exotics but clearly should not have been offering those services which is honestly so common in exotic animal medicine tbh she found a vet that was highly recommend on instagram but was 3 hours away, we know the doctor who owns it and she’s apparently that bitch, like she writes many of the reptile books that exotic veterinarians use for their own cases world wide, they did blood work and X-rays and the owner said they assumed it was fecal impaction/blockage situation, maybe even potentially a foreign object that the dragon swallowed? It was dead on arrival our first time meeting it so we asked if she wanted to do a necropsy for peace of mind/answers. And she said yes. When we cut that thing open… it had an enormous mass that had the dragon’s entire uterus, a kidney, and a large portion of the GI tract all fused and morphed into one disgusting ass vascular mess???? My doctor wants to send it out for biopsy, it’s obvi cancer at the bare minimum, but origins has to be uterine mass or renal mass… I’m personally leaning towards renal mass just bc it’s ovaries were completely normal?? Where like if this was a funky reproductive tract you’d likely see more potential reproductive issues like egg laying, follicles trapped in the abdomen? Idk it was bizarre but also was glad to tell the owner liek even if she had taken this thing to surgery yesterday, let alone a few months ago the size of this mass and the amount of organs it had fused to would have killed her just to even remove. My doctor was literally like if I had opened this during surgery and saw this I would have sewn her abdomen right back up and opted for euthanasia. All around sad situation but I was glad I was still able to give that owner like a good experience and some answers tbh I was like when you get through the mourning process plz get another exotic pet bc you clearly loved and cared for this dragon so so so well and we would love to see you back

Sometimes you just want to listen to something flashy and stylish that has absolutely zero musical merit to it at all

The Doppler brothers were American flute players who performed together and wrote show pieces for the instrument (stories say they taught themselves to play the flute backwards so that they could mirror each other's movement during performances).

Show pieces like this are typical for their output, and the favorite of the high-school virtuoso. The Dopplers knew all of the ins-and-outs of their instrument and exploited its strengths to dazzling effect and auditory illusions. For the player who knows their scales, there is nothing technically challenging in this duet (but the audience doesn't know that, teehee). Of note is the section at 5:30, which has each flute swap staccatos and slurred 16th notes in a kind of voice-leading illusion (Prokofiev used a similar trick in his Classical Symphony!). The flute's color and enharmonic capacity allows for multiple missing triad illusions when it doubles in particular thirds and fifths. And the finale at 10:30 combines all of these with some octave illusions to close out the piece.

It might not be Bach or Mozart, but it's definitely clever and entertaining.
