So I have arrived here for many reasons and not just to live a meat-free lifestyle. I’m attempting to gain a bit more focus in my life and I want to learn to rid myself of all kinds of toxic things/people/situations and a lot of that comes with self-medicating.

Balance, balance, balance
I’ve learned a lot about balance over the past few weeks. These past few weeks have felt a little long, I’ll tell you that! I’m not talking about Jan 1-16, I’m including the holidays here.
Regardless, after getting intensely ill last week I decided to change my diet back to where it was prior to my cleanse. I found out that raw foods and lack of protein from meat (for ME) threw my digestive system so out of whack I almost ended up in the ER last week from stomach pain. Needless to say, I added protein from fish back in and I feel much better. After I got sick, I still had a hard time eating for about 3-4 days but I’m happy to report, I’m almost back to normal.
Back to balance- this past year has been interesting for me. Recently, I’ve been going out a lot (weekday/weekends) which was the polar opposite to the hibernation period I was in, the pendulum was swinging in the other direction. It just wasn’t sustainable for me (just like the pendulum swinging in my diet wasn’t sustainable) so staying in a lot more these past two weeks has been good and bad. I realize I do need to get out but I don’t need to all the time. I went to a friend’s place to watch the football game last weekend and had some wine. I felt like, had I been “out” here and there, would I not be so tempted? Who knows!! Since then, I have had some wine but not every day like I was.
I know that balance is important, I get that- but going through this experience these past few weeks has been eye opening and good for me. The meditation and working out on a daily basis has been a great habit and I love that! AND curbing my social media presence has been great for me too (although I had to re-activate my FB account b/c my Spotify wouldn’t work without it) I’ve been pretty good about popping in quick here and there throughout the day and getting off of it quickly. I miss it- I’m looking forward to not feeling guilty for popping in next month.
Moral of the story- I don’t need extreme. I just don’t. I also realized I've been "surviving" again, not living! The point of this month was to live not survive. I need balance (I know- not “rocket psychology-science") I tend be extreme in so many areas of my life but find that I’m most comfortable and happy in balance. I’m more peaceful in my thoughts, my actions, my feelings (and digestion apparently.)

So, its been one week on my vegan cleanse or “diet,” for lack of a better word and I have a few thoughts. I don’t feel great. My body isn’t responding well and I’m eating a lot more than I usually do. I’ve put a few pounds on, actually. I’ve been working out just as much as I always do, which is...

Conversation on the slopes with my buddy yesterday:
After skiing for about 4 hours yesterday and only eating half a banana before hitting the slopes, (nerves kept me from eating more and I tend to NOT eat b’fast- not a good habit) I started to get the shakes from low blood sugar. At that exact...

Part of my 2014 mind/body/soul journey is to continue to overcome many fears I have so luckily acquired over the years. Part of those anxieties and fears come from lack of confidence, especially in my athletic abilities or lack there of. I'm terrified of signing up for races, hiking with other people, running with others (what if I'm too slow? what if I can't keep up?) And one of them is getting on a mountain and skiing. I have been working on my fear of heights this past year and have come along way -- but I haven't been on a mountain skiing in about 17 years. Today, I ski. I'm scared. I don't know why? No expectations.
I am. I’m afraid.
